HORRIBLE!! Doesn't make sense AT ALL! Doesn't teach in chronological order. The very first day she started lecturing on1960's when the history class was supposed to be UNTIL 1877. She needs to learn how to speak in public. Keeps looking down and reading the notes to us. Rarely looks at students while lecturing. Uses a completely different book.
Great teacher! midterm and Final very straight forward with great reviews.
Fun Class and fun teacher! Two term papers a 5 and 8 pager(double spaced) but she'll give you a B if you try. One midterm and One final, she gives you a study guide with everything that will be on it and she gives the essay answers before the day of the test.
this class was ridiculously boring! i don't know how many times i fell asleep! she doesn't make sense and any question that you ask her she most likely won't know the answer. i do not recomend her.
HORRIBLE! She has this ridiculous policy on her papers that you cannot use outside sources, just her lectures, book, and document list, which was stupid long! Horrible communication skills with her students, unless you are a favorite.
she was boring i didnt really pay attention in class the papers werent that bad but like another comment, you have to use her sources. the tests were super easy she gives you a study guide with all the answers 5 essays but on the test theres only 2 so you kinda have to konw them all. if you know how to fill out paper before a test, you'll do fine
Prof Kehew is a great person, she has a distinct teaching style that doesn't work with everybody. Her test arent extremely difficult, but her papers require quite a bit of time
Mrs. Kehew is lame her essays are extremely difficult lectures are pointless she dosent use the book at all!! gives lectures of her own notes. test are ok but could be worse she gives a good study guide for them and the other book quizes are either all true or all false..
She is a great professor. Extremely helpful and fun. If you come to class and do your homework you are guaranteed an A+. Good Luck
Theres very little assignments theres like 2 or 3 essays but they are 5-6 pages long she outlines the tests very well in the study guid you do they study guise you will pass the test not extremely easy but definately passable, she does not require you to attend class however if you dont show up you will miss keypoints thatWLL be on the test.
Ms. Kehew is an ok teacher. There were two long papers, but other than that the class was a breeze. Don't take notes on everything she says -JUST THE ID'S. Ms. Kehew is not the best or the worst.
Professor Kehew is an okay teacher. Theres two 5-6 page essay. They aren't too bad, but you have to use her resources like textbook, documents, & lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's best to attend for her lectures & ID's. She gives a study guide & goes over it with the class the day before the test. Got questions, ask her. Passed w/ an A
Kehew started the semester off by telling us that she talks too fast for most of us to take good notes, and that she has sloppy handwriting. The book was a complete waste of money that didn't get used at all. AT. ALL. We didn't get our first graded paper back until a month before the semester ended, and she says that's just how she rolls.
Kehew is kooky. Doesn't ever take attendance, the ONLY work done in the class are one 2-page paper & two 6-page papers. (She's a detailed paper grader)! Weird lecture style, tons of info but not necessary to retain. Exam review days VERY helpful. I do think she should be a Women's Studies prof instead, it seems to be her passion.
Kehew's lectures are pretty interesting, but her biggest problem is that she skips over what I believe are the most important pieces of history, i.e. the Civil War. She instead likes to talk about domestic issues, etc. I think that she should re-prioritize her lecture issues. Otherwise, easy class, just a few papers, lots of review for tests.
Professor kehew isnt terrible. She gives you a TON of info in all her lectures but the primary focus are the IDs. The textbook was never used. She is a very thorough and tough grader, if you miss one class..youre screwed because of all the info she gives in each lecture. her exam study sessions are super helpful
Took the women's emphasis course. Very inspirational. Lectures very thorough- do not need text.
Make sure to good notes on her lectures. Especially on the "ID's" she gives (those are the tests). The hardest part is writing a paper (and it's not really that hard). I didn't need the textbook at all. She only takes attendance on the first day so its up to you to show up. Overall a fairly easy class, she gives you the answers to the tests.
She was good, better come to class, listen and take notes. I really didn't read the text book, notes were good enough. Good idea to ask questions she will stop lecture to answer. She like to have fun while teaching so just follow her lead listen to her jokes and you'll have fun and maybe get a good grade. Note ID#s important part
She was pretty easy, didn't use the book that much, you have to write two papers (1 paper and rewrite it). know the IDs.
I really enjoyed this class! She is a nice lady who makes jokes and engages the class. Its mostly lectures and note taking like most history classes. You do not really need the textbook and the exams/ papers are not hard at all. Study guides are extremely helpful. If you just show up, its an easy A.
GREAT TEACHER!! If you show up,take good notes,& listen, you will get an A.She TELLS you what is on the exam, what is expected on your papers. You literally have to NOT try to fail.I didn't use the book, others may find it helpful.I took the 8week class & found it was perfect! She is funny too, with great stories to make the class go by faster.
Okay if you actually want to learn something in this class don't bother taking this one. This teacher knows nothing if i ask her a question, she would tell me to google it!!!!! Easy A no book use a lot of note taking;vague information not detailed at all. took the 8 week class, quizzes are SUPER EASY
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! You WILL receive all the info you need from her lectures. Plus, the publisher has a website for the breakdown of the book for free, if you really aren't sure if you want to buy it or not. Quizzes are super easy, and her test are quite easy as well if you take the time to study a bit. No time periods, not exact dates, mid-1800s.
This class was easy for me, but very boring. She has good lectures I suppose, but they aren't interactive or anything interesting. The two tests consist of essay prompts SHE GIVES YOU BEFOREHAND and terms she also gives beforehand. Use that to your advantage. Don't buy the book. -BTW I'm a History Major
Professor Kehew is a great teacher, her teaching methods are alittle different from whan I am use to. NO powerpoint, slides, handouts, lecture outline, etc., its you listen and learn. The main focal point is the ID's, that is the main subject on the exams. If you know those then its pretty easy to answer & write the essays. Did not need the book.
I liked her teaching style, although it was a lot of lecture. However, it should be expected since it is a history course. She's friendly, but can be a bit mother-like. I recommend this professor!
Fabulous instructor with crystal clear lectures; the book is unnecessary, however, it does supplement lecture. Class format is purely lecture, without the use of power-points or any aids. Ultimately, you will learn a lot and if you take the women's emphasis course it will shape your perspectives on women's rights and gender inequalities.
You barely have to do any work, easy pass, just listen to her lectures and write down good notes. Easy midterm and final(the questions are given to you before hand). One essay and a rewrite of the same essay. THIS IS A MUST TAKE SUPER EASY CLASS.
Good class =)
This woman takes forever to get your grades back. Don't expect instant gratification from this teacher, because you won't know how you did on your first assignment until you get your final grade at the end of the semester. Ridiculous.
Took her for 310 and 311 and she was great, but don't get on her nerves! No textbook needed, but you do need the reading book for Hist 310 because you will be writing your paper on it. Two essays, but the the 2nd essay is a chance for you to correct what you did wrong on the 1st essay. Go to class everyday because her exams are from her lectures.
She is very boring! She just talks and talks and doesn't make it interesting. You have to do 20 quizzes online on the textbook but its really easy to find the answers on google. Theres two papers and one is just a rewrite to correct what you did wrong on the first. Midterm and final she goes over the class before so it is really easy just boring!
Professor Kehew lectures very well, she obviously knows her subject inside and out. She is also very straight forward, and a tiny bit sarcastic which is funny! She gives an incredibly useful study guide before the midterm and final and goes over it in class on review day. The only downside is she doesn't use powerpoint.
Professor Julia Kehew is an awesome teacher! I loved her! She really knows her history! Make sure you take a lot of notes in class. I took her in the summer so the class was very fast paced. There was 15 short online quizzes, two exams and one paper. She gives amazing exam study guides! I absolutely loved the class. I recommend taking her class.
Prof Kehew is okay. She is nice, but she is very strict on attendance. Her lectures contain a ton of info and she is hard to follow sometimes. The best thing was that she gives study guides for the midterm and final that will show you everything you need to know. Also, most of what you do will be busy work, but she is alright overall.
Overall pretty easy. I like history so the class was not too bad. She is pretty liberal and it's not hard to tell. I was able to look past it and do well in the class. She gave an oral history assignment that you will want to work on right away. The study guides for the midterm and final are very helpful.
She is the best history professor I've ever had! She has very interesting lectures.
I took Hist 310 online and I would have chosen a different teacher. Her exams are questions from her podcast lectures, videos, and articles. Her quizzes are from the book. Lots of reading and lots of homework. She doesn't give you a good time frame for assignments, especially online. I would NOT recommend her.
tons of homework and podcasts. I have never had any professor who makes me read this many articles. Each mol includes at least 3 articles and 3 podcasts. Quizzes, tests and some essays every week.
Professor Kehew is a great teacher! She's makes class fun and interesting, and is a very sweet and approachable lady. The reading workload for her class is INSANE though! Multiple articles and chapters out of the textbook every single day. If you've managed to finish all your reading, though, lecture and discussion are a breeze.
I thought she would be an easy professor considering what my friend has told me. But I guess something must have changed because she gives a ton of work!! Its one of those professor who loves the subject they teach and want to give as much work as possible to the student without considering that they may have other class work to do.
Weekly quizzes are based on the textbook chapter readings. Discussions are fairly easy. The exams are based off of her lectures. Study guides are provided, but you definitely want to branch off a bit as well. She offers extra credit. A few papers, but not hard. Keep up with all of the work and you will do well. Would definitely take her again!
She seems to know what shes talking about, until you realize that with proper questioning she is just reciting off of notes. She also attempts to make a HISTORY class part ENGLISH class, part ART class, and more. Shes crude and plays favorites as well. If you want your grades for papers and the like, dont expect them until end of semester
Professor Kehew is a good teacher but her workload is a bit much. There is zero discussion in her class, which is disappointing because history can be interesting. She is the only one really allowed to speak in class. She doesn't stay on top of grading, even though almost everything is on d2L.
The Professor's lectures were more like stories, however there was a lot of information to take in at one sitting. She gives a large amount of work to do during the week: 250 word discussion on material, and quizzes on reading. She also gives big unit tests which require lots of studying. I learned so much in this class, including how to use d2l.
This class is a work load..
I do not think that this class is a work load. It is a college level history class, so it is expected that we need to start putting our effort & take sh** srsly. I did what was expected of me. Just an advice, when listening to the podcast, just hear for the identification words, and transcribe the podcast for that part. You will do fine on exams.
This class was a breeze. There were weekly 250 word discussions, reading quizzes, and podcasts. The exams were every 2 weeks. Listen to the podcasts and take note of ID's. There were only 2 papers which were part of the oral history project. One is an transcription of an interview with a person, and the other is a reflection of what we learned.
I truly enjoyed this class. I took it over the Summer, so I expected to have a lot of homework and reading. If you keep up with the readings and the podcasts, you can only succeed. It is difficult, but it is to be expected as a college course. Professor Kehew gave many opportunities for extra credit in case you missed a test. You can't miss!
Unreasonably boring...
The class is easy as long as you pay attention. She gives an outline for lecture and that's about it; you have to write what you think is important when she's lecturing. The essays are pretty boring, most of the essays are pretty liberal; you can see the bias on the topics, but it's not so bad. There's tons of extra credit opportunities though.
I took this class as a fast track. It was a lot of assignments but it wasn't bad. Weekly discussion posts, quizzes twice a week, and an exam once every few weeks. She allows three tries on quizzes so that is helpful to study and be able to do better on the 2nd & 3r quiz because it's usually the same questions (write down every question and answer).
She definitely assigns way too much work for this history class. There are discussions and quizzes every week. You also have to read long articles all the time. She could be sweet but she gets super mad if you are absent or come late.
I thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Kehew's class. I've learned an incredible amount of information and was shocked that the materials have never been taught before until I attended this class. Everything was quite enlightening. She is down-to-earth and honest. Attend class, jot down good notes, participate in discussions, do extra credits & you're good.
Took this professor for history 310 online. Was pretty easy, she gives plenty of extra credit so you dont have any excuse to not pass with an A. Take her
I took Kehew for both 311 and 310 online and i've gotten A's both times. She has weekly discussions and quizzes and 4 exams. There is not excuse to not pass this class because she gives a lot of extra credit, but you do have to try for it.
I took online version. Take notes on her recorded lectures- thats what the exams are based off of. There are 2 or 3 papers you have to write but it's easy. She provides great feedback. I really enjoyed the class I learned a lot. I work M-F, did all of my HW and received an A- just get ready to work for that A it doesn't come easy.
Took her online class she is a decent professor. Definitely possible to pass she did doc off points for certain things where I was like well alright! Just do the work discussion boards, writing assignments (not to many), offered like 1 or 2 extra credit opportunities.
She gives an EC assignment w/ every exam. They aren't easy but still nice for the bonus points. Her lectures a mix of txtbook readings (free ebook), docs, & a podcast that she records. Quizzes are easy and graded right away but she wasn't quick to grade the papers so not able to make improvements based off the first paper before the next is due.
Best professor ive ever had. Passionate about what she teaches. Great lectures, great podcasts to listen to before test. Reasonable grader. Very nice about answering questions, and in general a nice person to talk to.
Professor Kehew is awesome! There are weekly quizzes and discussion boards that prepare you for exams and writing assignments. The test are directly from the readings and podcast so make sure you take notes. There are many extra credit opportunities so take advantage of them. Do the work, you will pass.
Some of the quizzes had information that wasn't in the assigned textbook or the assigned videos, discussions or articles. Some questions for the quizzes were out of order in that they were for a different chapter but she gives 3 attempts and most of the questions are fairly straight forward.
History isn't my strong suit. She offers the e-textbook for free, which is fantastic. There is a LOT of reading of the textbook and extra materials so try to stay on top of that, I didn't. 1 quiz every week, 5 discussions, 4 exams, 1 transcribed interview and a paper to along with it. Lots of extra credit. Her class is a good choice for history req
Worst professor Ive ever had in my entire life!!! Not helpful when reaching out. Rude when asking for help. Degrades you when professors are supposed to be helpful. I would never again in my life take any class shes associated with.
She doesn't allow late work but she gives a lot of chances for extra credit. For the most part, her class is made up of mostly quizzes, a few discussion boards, and two papers. I enjoyed what she taught, but if I had to do it again, I'd either chose someone or really prepare myself better for her. Good luck y'all.
I really enjoyed my time with professor Kehew. Her lectures are in the form of podcasts, which makes it easy to sit down and listen to them at your leisure. The quizzes are based on the podcast so make sure you take notes. Don't miss the discussion posts since it will also dock down your participation points. I missed 1 and I almost lost my A.
Professor Kehew was actually the best history professor I've ever had in my life. During a PANDEMIC, she took the time to record lectures and actually teach the material, unlike so many other professors I've taken this year. She was outstanding in every way, and provided great and consistent feedback. 10/10 would recommend you take her!
There was a lot of extra reading assignments (plus textbook reading). It is clear she wants students to succeed. She is passionate about teaching history, and although history is not my favorite subject I really enjoyed her class. Gives good feedback on all assignments and gives extra credit opportunities. Would recommend!!
So she makes you read a lot, write a lot and spend like 45 mins of listening to her lectures/podcast. She gave me an zero just because her explanation of an assignment was not clear. A lot of people got low grades cause when I saw the average was lower than mine, I know I wasnt the only one she grades harshly.
Easy A/B if you pay attention to calendar or your schedule. Although everything about this class is inconvenient. Assignments due at 11 pm rather than 11:59 just messes up my schedule, and the grade section on canvas is a ratio (100/150 for example) instead of a percentage. Class is just annoying IMHO. One word to describe this class: annoying.
Pro. Kehew is the best professor I have ever seen. I had a tough time throughout this history course. It has been difficult and challenging for me. There was a lot of reading, writing, plus quizzes. Every time I email Pro. K she will always help me with patience.
She does her own lecture videos and she even has transcripts of them so you don't have to watch them. She gives key points to study for every topic, which is super helpful for tests. The hardest assignment was the research paper but even then it wasn't difficult. Mini weekly quizzes, a discussion post every once in a while. Few exams, no final.
Covered for HIST 330 class at ARC. Hybrid class. Lectures were audio podcasts that had transcripts. Lots of videos and readings. No late work allowed, regardless of circumstances. Participation matters, as it is part of the grade. One big oral history project regarding race or gender. Few quizzes and exams, no final. Good luck if you take her.
Her work is due at 11pm, no late work Her quizzes are very straight forward The assignments mostly consisted of watching a video lecture or reading the textbook and then taking a quiz on it the discussion post are a MUST the exams are 50 questions multiple choice final was opinion and extra credit kinda essay was very easy
This was my favorite class this summer. I really enjoyed the way the professor laid out the class work and the podcasts. She really cares about her students and even gives out extra credit. I would love to take another one of her classes she taught me so much. Great class!
I followed the criteria for discussions and didn't once get a passing grade. I've gotten 90 %+ on every test, and I still have a C. Uses too many discussion posts.
Not too sure why everyone is complaining. Her class isnt easy, there is a good amount of work but she has A LOT of ec that you can do to get an A. Discussions are graded strictly and JSTOR data base will be your bf for finding reliable sources. Emphasizes proper citations, hard quizes, but overall this class will make you a stronger student
Her lectures in the form of podcasts were what drew me to the class. She provides a transcript of notes too which was helpful if you did not want to listen to 30+ minutes of her talking. Def was not an easy class but I felt it challenged me in all the right ways which made completing the assignments more fun. Totally doable.
She was okay. Very hard grader when it comes to writing papers for the class. Almost every discussion had to be in MLA. Lots of reading articles. No matter how I wrote my papers or discussion my grade kept staying lower and lower. So I'm going to have to retake the class again. Exams and Quizzes were simple though.
Her class is hard but manageable. I got a flat C on a massive paper but still ended with an A because of the effort I put into quizzes and discussion board posts. You'll do fine as long as you're a strong writer. If not, train yourself if you want a good grade. I like the amount of effort she put into her class, like her own podcasts and resources
Class was passable. Be able to cite your sources correctly. Get ready to look up some historical articles for your discussions and paper. It wasn't bad, the discussions help lead up to your paper that you have to write in the end. Tests are passable. Extra credit opportunities. Look at the material because there is a participation grade.
quizzes easy. Js do the reading-giving a Low rating because i had an A got dropped to almost a C in class. because of a discussion board that i put work in for yet all of the fellow classmates chtgpt their work.Had to write a 500 word response. she said i answered the question correct but wrong format so i got a Zero. Harsh grader
She was great when it came to feedback but her grading was harsh. If you messed up even a little the grade will drop pretty fast. I had a low B until our final paper. One of the most stressful papers I've ever had to write but ended up getting a %90 on it! Definitely pay attention to the format and make sure you know how to cite well!
Please save yourself, if you are taking more than one course don't take this class . Her 8 week course is so reading and writing heavy. And she has 4 assignments due by Wednesday and another 4 by Sunday, with no working ahead. As a woking student with a heavy course load her class was a nightmare and the sun shined bright when I dropped the class.
The assignments were explained in a great manner but her grading really threw me off. I've never felt so dumb in a class until I was in this one. I do think she means well but her grading tactics are not the best! All I can say is if you take this professor make sure you're ready to almost never get a %100 on an assignment!
