She is very smart and qualified, but many of the texts we read were SO boring. Although it is called problem of god, it just turns into another generic philosophy class with no meaning. It's possible to get a good grade, with some studying, but don't expect to be captivated by the material.

It seemed like she didn't even understand some of the stuff we did. Tries to sound very philosophical when discussing everything, to the point where easy topics become hard to understand. Not a hard class per se, can easily get a good grade, but not that interesting and not much different from a philosophy class (though it's theology)

She thinks she teaches philosophy rather than theology. Readings were extremely boring. Does not explain things well. Asks students for answers yet never actually says what the right answer is. Only likes you if you talk a lot in class. Midterm was hard and not a test of what we learned but a test of our ability to memorize a dialogue.

Content-Lamm doesn't make you memorize her interpretation. She wants you to understand the arguments of the authors and wants you to know those ideas and terms. Materials- christian focused, progressive, inspirational, great lectures, go and you will learn a lot Lamm- She is really so caring and kind. Never makes students look dumb, is encouraging

The course is hard, but really not as difficult as all of the reviews make it out to be. First months are reading heavy, but it lightens up. Countless opportunities for office hours (she even changes the times if you usually have class!) Go. For. Feedback. On. Your. Paper. Ideas. One of the brightest people I've met. Take her if you want to learn!!

This class is definitely A LOT of reading and the readings are pretty philosophical so they can be confusing, but Prof. Lamm is a great lecturer so even if you don't fully understand them, her lectures usually clear any confusion up. She's a fair grader, and very easy to reach outside of class. She's also very kind!

Not very clear about her expectations for papers. Pretty tough/ unfair grader for a required introductory course. In terms of the books we read, they were incredibly boring along with the class discussions. Decent amount of reading. She is a very nice person, but if you want an A it will take a lot of work.

Professor Lamm is very intelligent about her subject and chooses readings that are mostly interesting to follow. Class structure is reading a chapter or two of a book for homework and then her lecturing about it during class. It's a lot of homework, but she is always available and willing to help with papers or other assignments.

Professor is not very open to discussion or interpretations of text separate from her own. Interpretations of texts will fail to properly acknowledge the dangerous messages of authors that at times espouse anti-women and pro-colonialist ideas. It is not very important to read as all you need to know from the text is usually covered in lecture.

This class was a weird mix of discussion/lecture; she expected you to participate, but only if you agreed with her interpretation. Not open to students' interpretations of quotes and wanted 'correct' answers when discussing abstract concepts. Sometimes a student would answer a question and she would cut them off, say they were wrong, and move on.

Lamm is extremely knowledgeable and kind, but admittedly not for everyone. She may come off as intense, wanting you to memorize her interpretations, instead of your own. But the structure she provides for the readings are digestible and well-crafted. To do well, do the readings, use her outlines, and answer essay questions as directly as possible.

Don't take this class if you fr dont want to be a theology major. Her expectations for a required, lower level theo course are unbelievably unreasonable. Wasted so much time trying to keep up with her homework due each class.

Unrealistic expectations of workload (read 7 books and two in class essays in one semester while other classes short excerpts and discussions). Not just a final paper, but also final test. Did more work for this required freshman class than most of my other classes. Felt uncomfortable sharing my opinion if it did not align with the professor. Mean.

You will need to memorize and largely conform to Lamm's interpretations of the texts, and it is a fair amount of out-of-class reading. However, if you're willing to put in the work, which really isn't too difficult, you'll end with the grade you want. Participation is also a big part of the grade, but the questions are usually straightforward.

She doesn't treat us like adults: mandatory attendance and no computers, despite a lot of notetaking. Her assessments suck: in-class essays (more about speed than skill), exams on how many random facts you can memorize, and a lot of them. Whenever I talk to friends in other POG classes, I'm astounded by how little they have to do compared to us.

Horrible professor overall, especially for a course that is supposed to feature literature and ideals from a variety of religions. Her class is centered on Christian ideologies, and if your interpretation is not similar to hers, the class becomes much more difficult to get a good grade. Final was unreasonably difficult for an intro level course.

Incredibly thankful to have taken Prof. Lamm. Take her if you are interested/majoring in (Christian) theology. She is truly brilliant. Can be intimidating at first, so GO TO OFFICE HOURS and ask questions. Cares about her students' wellbeing, also expects constant high engagement with the course. Work hard and be honest with her when you struggle!

Prof. Lamm is, by far, one of the best instructors I've ever had. Her passion for the material she teachers and for the success of her students shines through everything she does. Though there is a fair bit of reading, I found our discussions of texts eye-opening and insightful--Prof. Lamm's class is absolutely worth the challenge.
