Always willing to help and a very nice person. Lecture can be kind of boring, but everything is pretty straightforward. She also curved a lot so if you put in the effort, you should be able to get an A
She strongly resembles Meg Ryan at the peak of her early 90s romantic comedy prowess. Only downside is it's a major distracting factor during crunch-time on the mini-tests. Oh well.
There are a lot of extra points. I got low Cs on all the tests and still got a solid B in the class. ITs not bad.
This class is pretty boring but a major improvement on the horrific ACCY 201 with Curtis. Material isn't hard, lots of extra credit and a big curve. Unfortunately she does put a couple questions from the book on the tests and you still need to read the questions carefully, but she doesn't deliberately try to trick you.
EXCELLENT notes... waaay better than curtis. Tests can kind of be tricky, lots of projs, but lots of extra credit. Really good teacher overall!
Shapland is a really nice professor who is always willing to help. The projects are hard, but if you go to her office hours, she typically helps out a lot. Overall, her lectures can be a tad boring, but she is a great professor who knows a lot about the subject.
She's a good professor who teaches material well. At the same time though, she makes her tests more difficult than they need to be. I felt like I knew the material well enough but then the exam questions were made out to trick you or just make it more tougher on you. But lots of extra credit and easy pts to accumulate throughout the semester.
HATE HER!!! someone earlier said she doesnt try to trick you...LIES!!!! julie shapland is a liar, even though her notes are def waaaayyy better than curtis, her tests are RIDICULOUS! you HAVE to read the test questions really carefully coz she totally tries to trick you. omg I HATE HER. also shes so boring and i hate lecture. atleast curtis danced
Very fair. If you were doing what you were supposed to, you will get a good grade. I got high Bs on all of the exams and got a solid A in the class. Most people got either an A or B. Also always willing to help
Much better class than 201. The material you cover is actual accounting, unlike 201 which is mostly business ethics. Her tests are difficult, as she is really testing if you know the material rather than if your able to memorize old questions. It is more difficult than 201 but at least you feel like you're in a top ranked business school.
Awesome teacher. She really know her stuff. Although the class is pretty difficult, it is by all means manageable. As long as you understand how to do all the questions that's in the notes packet, you should be fine. You will walk out of the class feeling like you learned a lot.
Awesome Professor - always willing to help, answer emails/message boards and explained material very well. Tests are pretty difficult but she always offers tutoring and office hours before tests.
great prof! you can learn a lot from her. but please attend the lecture everytime
She's the best prof I've ever had in college!
She was a good teacher, but test questions were horrible! Too many subjective questions that could have many justified answers. Final was harder than it needed to be as well. Plenty of extra credit though, so it makes things a bit better
One of the best in the school. Very clear about what she is going to give her students. And also requires her students to be clear about the materials. If you do the green sheets in the course packet and fully understand them, the exams seem quite straightforward.
Great professor. Very clear about what is expected and what to do. Dont really need to read the book. Just read the notesbook and do the green sheets. Best professor so far.
Lectures are extremely boring to sit through. Lots of iClicker questions so attendance is somewhat required. Test questions are HORRIBLE. Too many questions where multiple answers seem to be correct. The group projects are very time consuming and hard. But hardest part of the class are the exams. Prof. teaches straight from notesbook
Studying for the exams is necessary for this course - Do not slack off on any of them. Study the notes. The textbook is not really necessary and do not buy the new edition just because she said so. Her course is very detail oriented...you'll know when you see her compass page. I learned quite a bit from her.
Shapland was a great lecturer and definitely a breath of fresh air after having Curtis. This class will teach you a lot, but an A requires a great deal of work. Also, you don't need to do hardly any of the readings.
Great professor, she takes the time to thoroughly explain tough concepts. Past years papers are provided, which helps a lot.
Test questions this semester were much trickier than past semesters. It almost didn't matter how much you studied. I questioned whether she knew the difference between income and profit.
She is clear on the lecture but she is not helpful at all.If you ask her a question, she will tell you to go back and read the book. Her administration sucks. She forces people to change groups without giving any reason.
this class is ridiculously hard and demanding. she thinks we have all the time in the world for this class. i hate it, but it's required. she's a nice professor and you can tell she knows the material, but i don't think she teaches the material very well. plus, her exams are crazy hard.
Very considerate of students schedules, takes the time to answer questions throughout lecture, homework is easy(you get 99 attempts), test are tricky but usually even out with the group project score. Overall she is a great professor.
This class really isn't that bad. Shapland is so much better than Curtis. Don't read the book. Study a couple days before the test and take the past exams. It's not that hard of a class if you put a little time into it.
she definitely isn't a student-friendly professor. she doesn't enjoy answering questions and does her best to shoo away students. she's rude and not an encouraging professor. i put a ton of time into this class and i'm still not getting the results i want. she always passes off her students to the tutors instead of answering the question herself.
The course design is extremely bad. The book is not sequential, so for one reading you may end up having to flip through it 5 times. This makes you not want to read. ACCY 202 starts out fine, then, one class you can miss a few things, and bam, you start getting lost and it's a downward spiral.
Great Professor. She teaches with clarity and passion. Tests are just like old exams. Notes package is very helpful
She's an ok professor though I did like her a bit better than Curtis. I read the book for about the 1st 1/4 of the class and referenced to it when I needed. I didn't like the book n i think i could have done w/o it but def get the lecture notes. Do the old exams n go to class. Even if u don't do well on exams other pts should make up for it.
Professor Shapland has a deep passion for accounting. Because of this, she wants her students to not only perform well, but to also understand the practice of accounting. As a result, Accy 202 may be challenging at times, but this class is by no means impossible. Professor Shapland will go out of her way to help you and the grading is lenient.
The class is more technical than 201. Shapland teaches with clarity & passion and overall very helpful. Go to her office hours if the material is unclear or to just introduce yourself. She wrote me a recommendation for a scholarship I won. The exams may seem difficult but review old exams to get a glimpse of what to expect. iClickers are required.
She explains things in class very clearly, and she balances her lecturing and practice/exercises in class very well as well. Her office hour is very helpful, but there are always a lot of people in her office before exam period, so recommend go early if you've got questions. She definitely makes me love accounting.
Professor Shapland is a great teacher. She explains things really well and is easy to reach by email or office hours or after class if you have any questions. She's not one to try and trick students, and the tests only reflect material taught. I would definitely take another class with Prof. Shapland if I could.
Straight forward course. The material isn't too tough if you pay attention in class and do the (small amount of) reading recommended. Shapland is a cool teacher who actually makes learning accy fun and interesting. She is VERY willing to help & easily accessible through emails and office hours. Pretty easy A if you do what you are suppose to.
She is a very good teacher. She teaches in a very organized manner, and she explains things clearly without any ambiguity. She is very easy to access both through emails and her office hours, and she answers questions nicely. Definitely encourage to visit her office hours if you've got questions.
She is a great professor (and really nice) who provides students with everything they need to do well. The class is fairly graded, but requires effort. The lecture notes are detailed and understanding them is essential. Utilize the book for more in depth explanations and clarification. If you still have difficulties ask the tutors, TA or Shapland.
The Professor is extremely helpful and does her best to keep you interested in the class. She is understanding and knows if you are a good student (yes, even in a big lecture she knows exactly who you are! :D). Overall, she is a great teacher who has excellent teaching as well as real world experience in accounting and business. Great class!!
Great teacher. The material is tough, but if you put the time and effort into the class you will do great. She always makes herself avalaible to help you and provides plenty of examples in class. If you put in the effort to learn the material, you will get an A
Professor Shapland does a great job at teaching the material. The material is tough but she does a nice job laying out her coursebook with practice problems and worksheets that if you actually do prepare for class and do the sheets she recommends after as well you will do great in the class. She was always more than happy to help in office hours.
While she has good intentions, she often comes off as unorganized. Had I not received such high grades on my first two exams, I would have been in trouble. Do well early and you won't have a problem. Also, after the change to ACCY 201, ACCY 202 is much easier and a decent amount of it is review.
She is the worst professor that I have had. Her notes are very unorganized and confusing. Be prepared to teach yourself in order to slightly learn the material. She is rude and unhelpful and it is very difficult to learn anything during class. I worked so hard in this class and got nowhere close to the grade I deserved.
Worst professor (if you can call her that) I've had at U of I. She's ineffective. I received an A+ in her class by teaching myself accounting. I received one of the highest grades in the entire course because I didn't listen to her. Students who pay attention get worse grades. Conclusion: her teaching counters understanding of the subject matter.
Outside of the brutal final exam, it is a very easy class. Do the assigned homework and you're golden.
Overall easy A. I received 102% until the final exam. Final was brutal. So do well during the semester and get as much easy point as possible.
Worst professor I've ever had. Boring teaching style and useless words I the package.. She has never used the reading book, and the course package has a bunch of useless words in it.
Very organized, get's to the point, no fluff. Very fair grader of projects and HW, unlike Curtis in 201. Very smart, knows her stuff.
Nice person, bad teacher. Her exams and final were unreasonably hard. Homeworks and projects were pretty easy, but she did not prepare us for what she tested us on. Pulled off a good grade in the class, but I don't feel like I learned the material.
I've never had a teacher with a more organized lesson plan. Her textbook with PowerPoint slides and practice exams is very thorough and basically everything you need to pass her tests. Her exams are exactly what is taught in her class, no trick questions. I got Bs on the exams and the final, but she curves the class fairly well.
Awesome professor! She is so cool :)
She is the reason I am an Accy major. I learned so much and really enjoyed the class. She realizes her material is not the most riveting and engaging material so she makes jokes about it. She is a clear lecturer and if you study the notes, skim the book, go to class, and do the green sheets, you will do well.
Awesome lecturer. She knows the stuff is boring, but her notes packet is amazing. If you go through the notes packet and actually learn the material you will do great. Exam are fair but by no means easy. Have to work at it but she is a great professor.
Professor Shapland is a great professor and knows the BEST way to teach her students accy. She explains EVERY details clearly to help you REALLY learn the materials and pass the exam. Exam may be hard, but as long as you attend her lecture and take down the notes, you would have no problem getting a good grade! She is definitely inspiring!
Communicates concepts well and was happy with the teaching and lecture packets. Tests are hard, do not underestimate them. She is a great teacher but can often pile on work. Stay on top of things and follow the detailed syllabus. I reached out to her multiple times and she solved my problems, no hassle.
ACCY 201 and 202 are two different stories. Shapland makes herself accessible to all students. The exams are challenging. You need to know the material to the fullest extent to succeed. I've heard kids who have gotten 100% on exams and 30% on exams. Go to lecture, discussion, office hours, and do not procrastinate homework and you should be fine.
She has unrealistically high expectations for her students, so going to office hours isn't a fun experience. Really thorough workbook (lots of unnecessary detail). The exams & especially the final are challenging. She gives a lot of extra credit which comes from doing the homework early & attendance, so that saves everyone's grade.
The class material is tough and the lectures are so dry and boring. The class notes are far too wordy with unnecessary detail. Exams are impossible but the course is curved a lot. There are clicker attendance points in lecture and discussions are mandatory.
Prof. Shapland is the best professor I've had at this university. She lays out what's expected of students and does everything possible to ensure that people get a good grade in her class. The material itself is difficult but if you study it you'll do fine. People complain about getting a bad grade in the classbut they don't put in the work!
This class was incredibly difficult and stress provoking, but the curve saved my grade. I failed every exam and still got a B+ because I attended every lecture and got extra credit. The lectures are really long and boring and the workbook is hard to follow and is far too detailed. Julie is a very caring professor but takes her job far too seriously
Julie is a great professor. As long as you do all the work and everything she tells you to do you will be fine. It takes work in this class, but you really learn how to study and she gives plenty of extra credit.
Somehow failed every exam but still managed to pull off an A. Just attend all lectures for the points and do all the extra credit and an A is not impossible.
Though the Accounting courses are boring in general, you can learn a lot with Julia. Many extra credit opportunities. She really wants everyone has a good performance in this course.
More difficult than ACCY201, really. My final grade was going to be a C, but the extra credits and curves made my grade a B+. Extreme time pressure on the graded activities (quizzes), tricky exam questions, and more. I like her as a person, though.
Professor Shapland expects everyone to be accountants when the xlaaa is required for any Business major. She speaks way too fast and expects us to know the material as soon as she says it. She uses words we do not understand and flips around way too much. We are students not professional accountants, please relax. New test structure is awful too.
Julia designed the course for students to really read the textbook and understand accounting. She provides enough instructions and exam prep stuff to help students, so if you pay attention during classes and study for the exam, you will be fine.
WORST CLASS WORST PROFESSOR. She doesn't teach you a single thing in lecture, no lecture slides, and just gives you clickers & quizzes and teaches you based on those. She doesn't follow any type of structure and moves way too fast for a required intro ACCY class. Only perk of the class is extra credit. Overall, so difficult and would not take again
Everyone fails the midterms so she curves the class. Julie tries to make sure the class is as tough and stressful as possible. She thinks quarantine has made class easy so she made our quizzes harder and taken away our promised curve. She then gave us 6 homework assignments due right after our midterm. People are dying give us a break like cmon.
Took Shapland's class when COVID-19 hit so the class was half in person and half online. Her lectures in person were great, she is awesome at explaining concepts and keeps you engaged in class by doing i-clickers. When we switched online, she did recorded lectures that were also very helpful. Tests are not bad if you actually study.
Prof. Shapland sets you up for success with detailed lectures and guiding notes. If you put in appropriate effort towards class assignments and study for exams you'll do fine.
Her test questions are meant to trick you and are very confusing. She talks a lot and you have to watch her videos at 2x speed to be able to get through it.
Compass page is super unorganized and hard to navigate. Things that should be together are separated into so many different folders and links. Videos are long, need to watch on double speed to get through them.
Julie Shapland isn't that bad of a professor. Her tests are difficult like many people say, but if you study hard for them and review all the material, you should be ok. There were 5 exams in total this semester, and you need to make sure you watch all the lectures and do the connect homework. If you slack in this class, you definitely won't pass.
Very long and heavy lectures. Tests are quite difficult. We were tested on things she didn't teach. Her take-home exams that were worth 10% back on tests sound like a good idea but were in fact terrible and did not help your grade.
She really knows her stuff. I enjoyed her for this reason. She can be tough but she will help if needed. A lot of people think she is intimidating but she just really knows her stuff. If you show up to lecture, pay attention and do the work you should have no problem
Very unorganized compass page with various links that lead to the same place. Lectures are very long and hard to follow. The material on the test was much harder than the homework that we were given. The first exam was basically impossible and many people received under a 40%. You basically have to teach yourself the material.
Can't listen to her talk I fall asleep. Extremely stressful and challenging for no reason as all. Most of the students in this class are taking this class not because they are interested in Accy but because they have to, given the fact most students aren't interested in Accy the class is taught in a way that you are getting a PHD in Accy.
Awful class and online only doesn't help!!!! Had to take this class but it was way too difficult for a non-accy major. Lectures are very long and hard to follow and exams are extremely difficult and include material not discussed in class or in readings. Also very stressful with very confusing class site and lots of homework assignments.
I took ACCY 202 with Professor Shapland and, though the course was online, I learned so much in her class and truly feel it is one of the reasons I performed so well in my 300-level accounting courses. It was a challenging course but Professor Shapland is a great professor that gave all the tools to succeed, you just need to make sure you use them!
The class was challenging, but it creates a solid foundation for other ACCY classes in the future. If you attend lectures and take good notes, you will do fine in the class. Julia gives you a pretty good note packet where you just have to fill in blanks and follow along in class. This makes note taking and studying for exams easy.
ACCY 202 was one of my more difficult classes in undergrad. At first I was unengaged and struggling, however, professor Shapland was my saving grace. She reached out to me for extra help and guided me to a B. I wish I leveraged her as a resource sooner. That being said, use all of the help you can get and you will be successful!
Prof. Shapland truly wants you to work for the grade that you desire. She does make the curriculum pretty challenging, but it allows you to get a strong understanding of the material. If you work hard, study for the tests, and want to learn, then you will get so much out of the class. I truly learned so much during it, and she is a great professor.
She is always patient and explains everything very thoroughly in lectures. The grading criteria that she sets are fair and clear. I learned a lot of accounting skills from her. Caring and approachable professor! Great class! Highly recommended!
While ACCY 202 has a reputation for being a difficult class, it really is about the effort you put into it. If you read the book and pay attention in lectures you will have no issue doing well in this class. Julie understand this is a difficult course, so she gives you plenty of opportunities to practice the content and come to her for assistance.
This is not an easy class but Professor Shapland understands that and gives students many opportunities for practice and help, you just have to actually put in the work. She is incredibly caring about her students and if you want to do well, she will help you as long as you are willing to help yourself. Hard work doesn't go unnoticed in this class.
She is not a good person at all. She is very condescending and honestly can be very rude/not understanding at all. However, her class is very straightforward. You need to watch the lectures since her test questions have random little facts she says in them. You need to do the lecture notes and green sheets and you'll most likely get a good grade.
Professor Shapland is extremely helpful and knowledgeable but she does require that students put forth an effort to succeed in the class. However, she is very flexible when it comes to meeting with her for extra help or clarification and as long as students are willing to learn and work hard, she will take the time to ensure you understand.
I really enjoyed ACCY 202 and getting to know Professor Shapland. She was a great professor who took the time to get to know me and helped me a lot throughout the course. She was willing to write me a letter of recommendation for a scholarship I was applying for and gave me a lot of great advice about pursuing a career in accounting.
Overall, I think she's a very straightforward person - she teaches the concepts very well, her homework and group projects are very fundamental to understanding the subject, and she's helpful if you just show up to her office hours. She wrote my letter of recommendation for JD app and added great details I forgot. Very helpful and caring.
Professor Shapland is great! I took her ACCY 202 class during the summer session, and felt that it was paced appropriately. She was always willing to answer questions and take extra time out to help students.
Professor Shapland is a super nice and wants her class to succeed. However, she just makes the class unnecessarily hard. The amount of time and work you have to invest into this class is beyond ridiculous. In addition, her exams are extremely difficult as answer choices can range from 4 all the way up to 8 choices. You cant even guess on exams.
The homework and exam difficulty is just totally different. She doesn't teach that well and expects too much from our exams. Also, the exam takes over 50% of our final grade, so good luck lmao.
Professor Shapland is amazing! Her teaching style was easy to understand, and because of her, I actually declared a double major in accountancy. I have learned so much through ACCY 202, and she was always easily accessible if I needed help. If you put in the work, you will have no problem taking this class.
Professor Shapland is easily the best professor I have had. She is extremely good at teaching accounting. If you show up and do the work, you will succeed in her class. I especially love how all of our homework is on the same platform, and it is all very uniform. Also, I could always find an explanation video of the topic on the course website.
Professor Shapland is very accessible to students who need assistance, and I strongly recommend attending her office hours for extra help. She is very helpful and can provide insights to where the exam questions could go. The course is challenging but fair as the questions are similar to the lecture materials.
Professor Shapland is really a super professor. She can meet the criteria of a "university professor". Remember to treat lectures, discussions, and homework seriously because those powerpoints are really helpful. Go to her office hour, and you can find her great passion for the subject. Finally, this course is not easy, but do not lose confidence.
Professor Shapland is a great professor who has passion for accounting. The notebook is written by her and it is super clear and easy to understand. Her lectures are interesting and you can have deep understanding. Professor Shapland will also give the exam details before every exam.
A decent teacher, but you have to keep up in practicing before the tests. If she has "Old Accy exams" and green sheets you should use them to practice. Lectures were kind of dry, but it is accounting so not really that bad in perspective. Homework is easy, tests are much more tricky and relies on you being able to pick out cues from the questions.
Much lighter homework than in 201, tests are still difficult and take a lot of practice. The lectures and explanations were sometimes more complicated than they needed to be. Overall though, she was funny and taught the class well. Make sure to stay on top of material, get all the extra credit, and practice the old exams
ACCY 202 is not that bad. The grading is incredibly fair as exams are fairly curved and plenty of extra credit is given, even just for going to lecture. Shapland is also one of the most widely available professors I have ever encountered. I've rarely had to wait longer than an hour for an answer to a question. In this class hard work pays off.
Not as bad as some make her/the class out to be. The grading criteria is confusing so I suggest reading the syllabus heavy at the beginning of the semester. Unfortunately have to buy both Mcgraw Connect and a textbook she made. Show up to lectures and discussion and you should be fine. Decent curve on exams and solid extra credit opportunities.
Trust me, this professor is definitely someone you want to take a class with. Apparently, some people do dislike her because they end up with a grade they don't want, but it is not her fault. ACCY 202 is a class meant for hard work and practice. This professor goes above and beyond to make the concepts clear, and she is so accessible outside class.
The graing is very confusing but fair. The course has plenty of materials to prepare for exams (often while receiving EC). Pr. Shapland is passionate about accounting and the lectures are filled with real life examples; she's also very helpful and quickly responds to emails. The course is not as hard as a lot of non-accounting majors claim it to be
The class is way harder than it needs to be. Tests are impossible but the class is curved a lot at the end to make up for it. Test problems have an overwhelming amount of information which makes them extremely difficult and every question is multiple choice. My best piece of advice would be do the green sheets and study weekly. Don't fall behind.
Professor Shapland is one of the greatest professors I've had so far! She is very carrying, teaches extremely well, and is super knowledgeable about all content. Make sure you read the assigned pages she carefully posts on Canvas so that you can follow along the class with no problem. The material is great and the green sheet problems help a lot.
Was in disbelief seeing how Prof. Shapland's rating is so high. The class structure isn't unfair, but the exams are something else entirely. It's common knowledge among students after the first two midterms that the exams are written with intent to trick students. You can rule out receiving ANY clarification during exams either. Avoid Shapland.
This course is manageable but still hard. I've been able to scrape by and do well on tests with minimal studying, but I also know other students who put in a LOT of effort and still get bad grades. Questions on exams sometimes carry over and cause you to get multiple questions wrong for one mistake. Look over the old exams or you'll be unprepared.
This professor is amazing. The material in this class is hard to grasp but she does an excellent job teaching the material in detail so there's no confusion. U also have 10 hrs a week of office hours and tutoring that's free. Some people don't like the class bc it's a lot of work, but if you put in the work it's really hard not to do well in class.
I must say, despite the fact that Shapland is a phenomenal lecturer and really knows her stuff, the class is structured very poorly. Exams were designed to trick you on every question, lectures had no direction/vision, and TA office hours had no guidance. I unfortunately decided to forego my plans to major in accounting because of this class.
I deeply regret taking Shapland's Accounting class. The enthusiasm I once had for ACCY, thanks to Fischer's ACCY 201, was crushed under Shapland's teachings. Her tests, all multiple-choice, seem less about evaluating understanding and more about tricky misdirection, with no partial credit. This infuriating approach led me to reconsider my major.
If you really want to be successful in this course Professor Shapland lays out all the resources for you to do so. She provides access to old exam questions, and almost all of them follow the same format and difficulty. My biggest piece of advice for this course is if you are struggling you really need to advocate for yourself - go to office hours!
Shapland gives you all the tools you need to succeed. The extra credits, discussion class, the paper packets, reading before you come to class, those are tools. Her lectures are a great time to ask questions, and she answers them clearly. The class is hard but accounting is, your choice to put in the work.
the tests are unnecessarily difficult and exceptionally tricky, my knowledge isn't accurately assessed by attention every letter or wording of the prompts. problems types are also different from practice exam/in class work. not a very engaging lecturer and the grading in the class needs to be changed for improved student motivation.
didn't feel respected and she wasn't good at delivering clear instructions or content. The class was made harder than it actually should be. wasn't helpful during office hours, tests are too tricky, doesn't help students succeed, will NOT take any one of her classes again
This class is very hard and you have to put in a lot of work to succeed. But Shapland gave lots of tips on how to do well in the class, and if you follow her tips you will do well. Biggest thing is going to all the lectures. Its easy to fall behind and very hard to catch up. But she is very nice and explains everything very clearly
Professor Shapland is hands down one of the best professors in Gies. ACCY 202 sets you up for success for both your career and future accy classes you have to take for your degree. In all of my upper level classes, content is built off of 202 material. Shapland is very accessible out of class and is very willing to help students succeed.
It is a great course and Julie is really good at using examples to explain the abstract concepts. PLEASE DO GO TO THE OFFICE HOUR! She is so caring if your ask her questions, and your confusions will be easily solved. If your read the book and review the note package frequently as suggested by professor shapland, you will survive.
The worst class I've taken so far. While she's a nice person, her class is extremely difficult and she expects a lot from her students. She fails to realize that students have other responsibilities and classes and can't dedicate their entire life to accounting. I believe she's the only one who teaches this class so be prepared to do a lot of work.
She provides a lot of study materials and her lectures are very helpful. Very nice professor that provides a lot of help for students. I was a big fan of her homework system. Exams can definitely be tricky and difficult but they are usually also curved. Overall very good professor just be prepared as exams will be more difficult compared to 201
Professor Shapland is one of the most caring and engaging professors I have had. She is always open to conversation about accounting or life in general. The class takes a decent amount of work to do well and she makes that very clear from day 1. The course is graded very fairly and if you put the time in, you will do well.
Tests are heavily curved and entirely multiple choice. Not too hard to succeed in this class if you paid good attention in previous accounting classes. Make sure you practice off the practice tests she posts and you'll be okay. However, the lectures don't add anything the textbook doesn't tell you so lectures could get tiresome or even boring.
Professor Shapland does a wonderful job with the course. Lectures may not be required, but if you want to perform really well, I highly recommend you attend every lecture in person. Also, there are a ton of resources on the Canvas website to help students with the course (Extra Credit too!). If you put in the effort, you will do great in the class.
Professor Shapland is very helpful and engaging. The class requires a good amount of work, but the resources like the practice tests on Canvas are super useful. To succeed, read the textbook, attend lectures, and use tools like Unstuck ai for study prep. Not a breeze, but manageable with effort.
Professor Shapland is a wonderful professor having just taken her class (Fall 2024). Attendance to her lectures is not mandatory but highly encouraged because she clearly explains any questions and difficulties a student might have after they have read the weekly readings (not mandatory, but hard to do well without doing them)
ACCY 202 is very manageable if you do the readings, I found the assigned textbook readings to be more helpful than the actual class workbook. Very annoying having to carry the workbook around. Tests are all multiple choice. Shapland is a great teacher though, don't let this class scare you from Accounting.
ACCY 202 is a great class taught by a great professor. It's not a breeze by any means, however she gives a studying schedule and if you follow it you will get an A, if you don't you will likely struggle. Professor Shapland is accessible outside of class and is very helpful. Attend lecture, discussion, and study outside of class and you'll be good.
Shapland is tough, but genuinely cares about students especially if you go to her office hours. She is encouraging when you go to her one on one. Her class is tough, but if you put in effort you will learn and do well. She encourages you to seek out help if struggling and keeps her notes and canvas page very organized.
I hope she realizes that we have lives outside of class and other courses we have to take. McGraw Hill is such a terrible website and daily homework, which are time consuming is very frustrating. Fischer was way more understanding when it came to coursework and was a better lecturer too. Unfortunate because she's the only 202 professor.
She cant even speak clearly
She is annoying. Gets mad when students discuss iClicker questions and makes the test difficult compared to classwork and homework.
Exams are insanely more difficult compared to the homework or Friday discussions. Lectures are a drag and don't help much either. She makes things more confusing than needed to be. Unfortunately she is the only one who teaches this course.
test is so hard. cant find anything useful on Canvas. And the homework is pretty long and complicate. All the lecture question is unrelated to exam. Exam is much much more difficult. lots of trick in her exam. I think doing this tricks is off track from the original purpose of teaching Accounting
She tends to ramble off topic in class. The only way to practice is through practice exams, the tests are nothing like the lectures or homeworks.
Worst professor I have ever had. Exams are nothing compared to the lectures and homework. It's unfortunate how she is the only one who teaches this course.
The exams in this class are extremely hard, and the Connect homework does not prepare you for them at all. The workload is excessive, and she expects way too much from students. On top of that, the Canvas page is very confusing and difficult to navigate.
Her tests are exclusively MCQs with 0 partial credit & are designed to trick you on the tiniest mistakes. The online homework doesn't help with test prep and the only way to have a good grasp of the content is taking old exams as practice. That being said, the extra credit helps a ton if you get a bad test grade so you still have buffers.
Tests are extremely difficult with no partial credit because they are all multiple choice. Tests have lots of tricky wording and information which can trip you up. She does give 12 points of extra credit and a decent curve at the end of the class tho, but still one of the worst classes I've taken while being here.
