There is a lot of work involved but if you keep up it is fine, he is very helpful if you are behind or confused. Take his class you'll learnaa lot, and no final!!!
This professor will make you think he is the toughest you have ever met ! But he's actually one of the few good professors you will be priveleged to have. You may not understand till you have finished taking his class. He is the "realest" !!
hes a tough teacher only because he wants to make you learn.. the concepts are interesting and hes a cool guy
Best math teacher here!!!
Pushes students very hard. Honestly believes that math is cool, and tries to make his students believe it too.
really knew and enjoyed topics, really wanted everyone to to do well. interesting material & teacher, but lots of homework. the class/homework is essentially the entire grade. tests are basically just the notes. good teacher, lots of work
Topics can be interesting and he is available for help if you dont understand. Mostly group work and the tests are all from the notes. Must keep up with work but he is a good teacher.
I had Calc 3 and it was a ton of work. But he cares, is a good teacher, and likes math. You should take him if you are interested in learning. Overall A.
absolutely awesome teacher, really believes math is cool and wants to share his joy with everyone. very difficult but availabale for help.
Wants to show and share the joys of math with you. He doesn't just teach but shows us how mathematics is in the world. Talks about life in general to and is a very laid back guy. Lots of work but if you stay on top of it your cool.
need to be in class in order to pass. lots of classwork/homework, but no tests. all quizzes are open notes. funny, nice guy. extremely smart and helpful. needs to learn that when class ends, it ends. no final!
Very passionate about math and encourages students to think about math as not such a horrible thing. Makes you work hard with group work and homework, but is a very fair marker. Has all quizzes-no tests-open notes.
lotsa work but NO TESTS OR QUIZES!!
very good teacher...seems interested in students' opinions
I despise math as it is and he just furthered my hatred with his insane love for such an awful subject. Unhelpful and overly opinionated. Swearing a lot does not make a professor cool unless you are Michael Filas.
He made math almost come easy for me! A really down to earth teacher with a great personality! Hes a great person to talk to as well. He helped me to pass precalc with a B and go on to get a B in Calc. I highly reccommend him! Hes a human math machine!
You really do have to at least do the work in his class. Anyone who says he is hard really is just not doing the assignments.
every class you would in your group and learn together and if you didn't know something he would be right there to help you. he is a very easy guy to talk to. no tests open note quizzes if you want to call them that. you need to be in class or you might miss something important. you should take him.
You may get a C in his class, but you will learn. Loves math, and expresses this abundantly. Do your work, go to class, and you should be fine.
he's a very good teacher...you learn a lot with him...he'll make it interesting rather than ramble on and on about nothing...he's very easy to understand and he relates well with students
overall, he was a great professor. i just despise math and there was pretty much nothing he could do about it. he was very enthusiastic and willing to help. all work is group work, so if you're a group person, don't bother. work is hard and therefore you have to work hard but he will try to help.
I am a math major at wsc and I have had Dr. Fleron a great deal of times. He is an awesome professor, however he works your arse off. You may not walk away with an A, but you will learn. I have never gotten an A in his class, ever, but he is still an interesting professor and very passionate.
Best Teacher I have ever had
Relates math to everyday situations. A very fair teacher and a great guy. Relates to the students very well.
I don't even remember what class I had him for but he was awesome!
Awesome guy. He can be difficult, but it is so important to talk to him and let him know whats going on. And on the plus side, he's pretty damn cute :))
he is a great prof. very helpful and nice guy.. but u have to work really hard
HE IS AWESOME!!!
he's a great guy & willing to help. i had a lot of fun in this class even though i dont like math... he makes it interesting.
Simply the best teacher I have had. Very hard, but fun and you learn a lot. He's passionate and a nice guy.
Julian is one of the best teachers i have ever had.although he's not the easiest teacher, he definitely teaches you.this was a class for teachers, so he not only taught us math, but prepaired us to teach on our own.he made math fun, even though i hate it, and related it to the real world.gives a lot of work, but always willing to help with anything
Best professor I have ever had here at Westfield. Incredibly passionate about his subject as well as his students. If you have a question, he is not intimidating, will not critisize you but simply help. He makes his classes challenging, so expect to accomplish a lot in his classes. Worth the hard work, and overall I have had all good experiences( :
He is a wonderful teacher! At first he seems like a very strict teacher, but he has his expectations, and you soon learn hes a cool down to earth guy who is very passionate about hissubject and enjoys answering questions and helping his students succeed. He assigns alot of work, but hes still one of the best here at westfield. Highly recommend him.
this is the best math class i have ever taken. he is a great professor, and cares about his students. work is hard but pace yourself take any class with him will help you no matter what. scales all the tests
Fleron was the best professor I have had at WSC, he is truly amazing. His passion for mathematics and his respect for students is inspiring. I had a great experience and would do it over again...we are so fortunate to have him at our institution. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
He was one of my favorite professors ever! He is passionate about teaching. His expectations are high, but he makes you want to meet them. Take Prof. Fleron's classes (especially math lit!)
Prof. Fleron is one of the best professors I've ever had. He scares the crap out of me sometimes, but I learned so much from him. He loves math, and makes it easy for others to love it too. With him you get to see the cool stuff in math. He can come across a little harsh, especially if you're not used to him, but I would recommend him to anyone.
I absolutely hate math. Prof. Fleron not only made me enjoy math but i was actually interested for once. Math Apps was an awesome class -- start on the final project early otherwise you'll be stressed out. If you need help - Just ask - - He goes out of his way to help you. AWESOME PROF. A++++ Would be in another one of his classes in a heartbeat.
Proffessor Fleron is one of the smartest people I have ever met! He will turn your brian into mush and stretch it untill you think it will snap, but he usually puts it back. (LOL) He makes you think about things in a completly differnt way. I loved his lit of math class and i highly recomend it!!! Proffessor flerons class really is awesome!
He is amazing. he helps you with everythinggg and anything that u can imagine.
Excellent teacher. Cares about his students. Passionate about what he teaches. Expects a lot during tests.
Awsome teacher. Really incredible. I would take him for every math class if he taught them all
Professor Fleron is not the worst professor that I have had but one of. He not only keeps you there the entire class, but puts you in a position to remain later than the alloted time. Class wasn't all that hard, but if taught by another professor, would have probably been enjoyable. Stay away.
Prof Fleron is one of the best professors i've ever had. He made Math fun to learn and always made you think. I was never bored in the class. If your going to take Math this is the guy to have. He made Math not just about numbers he taught it in a totally different way I never though was possible. I went from a hatered of Math to a liking of Math
Great teacher, Hard on students, can be very helpful, try hardest and you will pass!!!!
My favorite math prof at WSC. Very well organized. Absolutely knows his stuff. Excellent motivator and very personable.
Math Explorations. So much work, more work than I ever had for a class before. Really nice guy but he makes you work your hardest. Mostly group work, no tests. We didn't have homework often but when we did it would be like 6+ hours of it. Fun class, interesting stuff, very passionate about what he teaches but couldnt believe how long some work took
Took Literature of Math, WICKED hard! I failed my first paper but somehow ended up getting an A- in the class. You read about 5 books, and 20+ articles in that class. He is a really nice guy and will help you out as much as he can as long as you ask for it! Overall this class was really touch especially if you are not a math major
Great professor and I learned a great deal from this class. Dr. Fleron has the patience of a saint. I highly recommend taking this class.
Professor Fleron has the patience of a saint and I recommend him to everyone!
Math explorations. Really pushes you, but with good reason. Super passionate and goes above and beyond to give extra help if you need it. Makes learning fun. No tests or quizzes, just completed packets. Challenging class, but if you show that you work hard you will get the A. Excellent teacher, I highly recommend him
Honestly he scared me a little at first. Prof Fleron knows so much about math and shows us how little everyone else knows. He is more than helpful in showing us how to actually enjoy math. If you take the class seriously then he doesn't give out exams just open book quizzes and write ups based on work done in class. Definetly a class worth taking.
Great guy, class is full of moments that will blow your mind but asks a TON from students. Also gives an assignment and just says do something with no direction. Having said that you will never find a teacher who cares more about his students than this one.
Fleron is a very nice guy and can be funny at times but this course is extremely hard if you have him as a teacher. He is the toughest grader I have ever met, there are no tests but he gives you write ups that you have to do about the work you have done in class. He grades those like a Harvard English teacher! Our class average was about a 60! And on the open notebook quiz our class average was a 55! Only one project you have to do towards the end of the semester but that's fairly easy!
Very hard grader, really makes you think. Hardly a math class, more psychology and deep thinking, but i did really like the class. I would suggest you be good at writing in detail if you take this course.
This professor is amazing! He makes the course extremely interesting and fun. The course material can be hard at times but he really helps you to digest everything. Very fair grader, not cheap on rewarding you for your work. Loved the course! Highly recommend this professor!
Dr. J is an awesome professor! Truly cares about his students and makes math fun to learn. This class is a different view on math and I learned the most in his class compared to other professors. highly recommended!
He is one of the nicest professors and goes out his way to help his students. His assignments are often difficult to understand but if you go to office hours it helps a lot!! Don't skip this class if you show you care you will do just fine
Great guy. He really loves math and taught me a lot, but his demanding work sucked the fun out of the class for me. I loved him as a professor but he required way too much work and he is the hardest grader i have ever had. I would type up 10 page math papers and only receive about a 60 on them.
great guy but he gives WAY too much work for the course level... multiple 5-8 page papers on packets you do "in-Class", poster project and an essay on that essays essays essays... dont ever skip class or you might as well drop it and "guess what" (as he would say) you probably shouldnt take this class if youre looking for something easy
He's a nice guy, but in class always seems to be tense. Tests are okay if you study for them and if you spend extra time with the material you'll be fine. Does not follow teaching style of other teachers, hops right into the subject, be sure to know your pre calc!!
Smart Guy. Basis his entire course off of explaining why math is fundamental in our everyday lives, yet all we have talked about is connect the dot polygons. I would not recommend this class to anyone
Professor Fleron was scary to me at first. He comes off as intimidating, but he is so concerned about your well-being. He loves when you grasp a concept that he has taught you. You do have a lot of homework, but it's mostly just tedious things. Very funny, nice, and understanding professor. 10/10 would recommend.
One of the best professors I've ever had and I'm not even a math major. I had him for Math Explorations. This guy is so passionate about his job. He always writes motivational quotes on the board! Be ready to put effort into the class. He has an entirely revolutionized way of teach math. He will definitely change the way you see the subject.
I came in to Professor Fleron's Math Explorations class not knowing what to expect. I ended up having the best experience with Math throughout this class. It was very tough, but he makes you truly learn the material, and also want to learn it. Work hard, participate, ask for help and you'll get an A
I loved Math Explorations with Professor Fleron. The whole semester we worked in groups and our quizzes (as long as you knew the material) were very easy. I would definitely take another class with him as a professor.
So in regarding math explorations I wouldn't recommend. Really smart guy but expects a lot for what is really supposed to be an easy get out of the way math class. Overall withdrew from class and took another professor and was easiest class ever like 15 min of homework vs an hour with this guy. Got an a with little effort so why take this guy
This professor is amazing. He is really understanding. If you talk to him he is very understanding and helpful.
Doctor Fleron is by far one of the best Professors I have ever had. He was intimidating at first but he's passionate about what he teaches and he wants you to pass, he has a ton of office hours. A few problems are assigned for homework online each week and only a few tests throughout the semester. Show up and put the effort in and you'll pass.
Fleron is by far one of the best professors I've ever had and is an extremely knowledgable guy. He's so inspirational and his classes are very eyeopening. His classes definitely require work but it's not hard to get a good grade as long as you keep up with his assignments. He's very understanding and will work with you in any situation.
If you aren't a math person, don't take his class. He expects a lot of math knowledge as a basis prior to the class. If you haven't taken calc before, he's not for you. As a person hes super cool and inspirational, but his teaching methods are questionable. Does give a lot of homework, only way to survive is be a math person and go to office hours
I really like the guy. Super inspirational, funny, and is ready to support his students in and outside the classroom. That being said, he's REALLY hard. Gives a ton of work and you need to put in the hours. If you actually work really hard, your grade will reflect that. If you're not going to try, don't take him.
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. He can be very intense, but is ultimately very fair. You definitely have to earn your grade. His teaching style is non-traditional, but once you get used to it, it's very rewarding. Extremely accessible outside of class. If you're not a math person, this course will be rough.
The worst professor! Complains about how much reading he has to do even though he assigns a reading log for every single class. There are 2, 3000 word essays due in the class and doesn't offer much help with them. If you like debating and discussion, this is the class for you. You don't do a lot of math in this course it's mostly philosophy.
There are some math concepts involved, but this is mostly a philosophy course. There's a midterm and final essay that are a bit much, but can be worked on piece by piece all semester. The book "Factoring Humanity" is a bit dated in how it treats sexual assault and isn't that great overall, but the rest of course is great if you engage and do work
I took Literature of Mathematics and Number Theory with Dr. J, both online during the pandemic. He is one of the best professors I had in my academic career. He is passionate, caring, and knows how to teach the material in a way such that you will learn a lot. You will need to put in a lot of work for his courses, but it's worth it.
If you did not take pre-calc and pass it with an A, do not take this course. He expects you to have a very strong understanding of concepts in pre-calc. Good luck if you decide to take him without any prior knowledge.
Fall 2021: Fleron truly cares about his students and that youre learning something. He does whatever it takes for students to learn, even if it means youll be working your butt off. He was kind of sad this semester due to personal stuff, but moments hed snap back into his joy for math were amazing, everyone would leave class with a good mood.
Math Lit Spring 2022: Fleron was lively, full of stories and joking with the class. This class is 100% accessible even if you're bad at math! His personality can be larger than life, don't get intimidated. Daily homework assignment that took no more than 15mins, and heavily graded on participation, and papers are a summary of class discussions.
Professor Fleron makes this class very difficult if you disagree with his agenda. He focuses on the importance of Truth but ensures that by the end of the semester, each and every student knows that he disapproved of our past president. The class also barely talks about math, but more about changing your mind. I would not recommend taking his class
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!! One of few reasons I left WSU
Not clear with expectations, no time in class to go over confusions
Very considerate and flexible, very personable, down-to-earth, available outside of class, takes time to consider and answer your questions genuinely, takes feedback VERY well and seriously, makes everyone feel included and comfortable.
