useless

Never had a teacher this bad.Book makes MORE sense.don't waste your time
a dead cat can teach me more about physics than this prof.
Buy the course manual, the most useful thing you'll spend your money on
powerpoint should be illegal...wont learn anything from the lectures..skip class

Unfair, gives NO notice for quizes, lazy(web ct will do ya), and boring
Ok teacher, kind of boring

She's a nice teacher! but if u don't pay attention.. u'll fall asleep!!
She is very boring and moves way to fast. The rate a which she moved through the course made it harder than it should have been.
I thought she was an alright prof. She moves very fast with PPTs, had to scribble frantically to keep up with her, but overall she's good. I understand everything that she said. Quizzes were hard, midterm was hard... final was very easy. Overall, good.
The woman doesn't know how to help people. She's the course coordinator of the program and she doesn't know what the hell is going on. Horrible for any sort of help
Taught well, no powerpoint like Stan Pejovic. Makes sense and seems to know what she's doing. Duno what happened with that PCS211 class but her PCS110 lectures were a lot better than Stan's!
im really thankfull to have her teaching PCS211.. she is friendly person inside and outside the class. she also very helpful during her office hours although she only has one or two office hours..
Great prof, knows what her stuff very well. Also a fast marker you can write your quiz during the morning and by the time you reach home in the evening your marks would be up.
This is the stupidest prof at Ryerson. Moves way to slow with examples that have already been posted on Blackboard, literary takes her 75 min to go over 3 examples, that take 5 min each. Very unhelpful, HOPE SHE GETS FIRED !!!
quizzes are hard but still a good teacher
She is very nice and helpful teacher. Answers all questions, email and so on. Try to go to her office hours, she will tell you which parts are not needed. But, be carefull, she is like a history teacher, if u not careful, you'll fall asleep.
She was good at explaining stuff during the office hours. i dont' know what's the heck happens to her during the class or may be i was just sleeping. i didn't understand anything in the class (basically) but ended up with an A. JUST KNOW how to do probs.
Its the first three weeks into Physics and I have no idea whats going on. She doesn't seem to have any sympathy towards those of us who have never taken physics before. Moves way to fast, very unclear. Expects you to know everything already.
does not teach the the appropriate level and does not take time to research the material she is teach with the common practices and units used by the industry to which she is teaching.

Made a simple class hard. Text books are useless just use her handouts. She means well but has a lack of understanding on how people learn. Uses overhead for questions, and a lot of time questions are not completed. In otherwords, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN.

Had her for Maple labs in physics..... I hate Maple and her with a passion. Gave my friend 18/20 and me a 14 for an assignment which we programmed in Maple and had the same output but slightly different methods doing it.

Unclear at explaining concepts and obviously no sense of understanding on how students learn or how to teach the course material.
Teaching well and being a good professor is two different things. Poor textbook, poor teaching skills. Haphazard explanations, skips important parts and stalls on arithmetic calculations, erases things from the board even if students are still copying it. Physics would be excellent addition to the CS, but this is a waste of time and effort.
A really poor professor which make us always skip the class.
uses the class as a power trip, likes to watch people do poorly on quizes and tests. Her explanations are incomplete, whats worse is that she writes haphazardly all over the board which makes understanding even more difficult. The text books are down right brutal, your on your own good luck
she is phsyco and has zero self-confidance.

I can honestly say this is the worst professor I have ever had (and I've had many from my previous degree). She practically reads from the completely disorganized slides which are made from selected portions of the already useless & badly photocopied textbook. Throws the concepts at you without background information in the most boring monotone vo

She is horrible, and I can't believe that I am paying for my education and getting this for a prof. Just pathetic. She can't teach.
GUYS WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.SHE IS NOT THAT BAD. SHE IS REALLY HELPFUL FOR THOSE WHO GO TO THE OFFICE HOURS FOR EXTRA HELP.BUT SHE STYLE OF READING IS REALLY DIFFERENT
Really bad proff. Has no concept of how to teach anything, and her "notes" are just re-typings of the textbook, which itself is very bad (does not explain concepts basically at all), and she then throws you to the wolves in regards to the exam.
She is usually pretty nice when you speak to her in office hours. However the way she teaches and runs the class is an absolute joke. Her slides are terrible, the text book is worse.. I would suggest finding another text book and always having a laptop on hand, otherwise it's F for you. As for the lectures.. don't waste your time. Study on your own
She will rag on you for coming to class late even though her class is all the way in the Business Building, and will not let you leave the class. Welcome back to high school. Notes incomprehensible, "bonus marks" not worth it. Avoid getting her or just don't go to her lectures. this class is pretty much self-teachable from the textbook anyway.
Her lecture notes and slides are a joke, don't even bother with them, you might only need the maple part. The textbook for this course is horrible. If you have to take this course with her like I did, make sure you study a lot on you own because the midterm and the exam can be very tough if you're relying only on her notes + text+ slides.
her slides are usless, her texbook is even worse, to pass this course use google and wiki, and go see her in the office, she cant teach a class but she can teach solo.
She genuinely seems helpful if u ask, she wont help if you dont. i guess since ur in uni now u should know when u need help. she goes very fast over slides, so make sure u print them. problems she goes over much slower, sometimes too slow. i got an A+ becuz i had prior knowledge of everything taught. never opened the book but others seemed to.
She hates students as a group, and will constantly yell at and demean the body as a whole. The text book is rotten, its so hard to find the info you need. She goes quick and never elaborates and isnt all that clear to begin with. If youve never taken physics before, youre pretty much done.
This is the worst prof in the world. I learned more reading the textbook than listening to her rediculous lectures which probably explains why I never showed up 8:00 in the morning. If you do infact read the textbook, you will do fine on the midterms and exam. To sum up, if u had no problem with physics and math in highschool then you'll be OK.
She knows the course material but makes the course harder than it already is. Bad teaching skills, she wastes valuable time by editing her slides during the lectures and shows little effort on clarifying the textbook questions.
Her accent is horribly thick and she's a pain in the ass to understand. She's terribly inconsistent with her variables and doesn't really teach anything prior to giving you questions. You're often left confused as to what's going on.
This Professor needs to seriously reconsider her career choice. Her teaching skills are poor at best, she probably knows the material but has no way of conveying it in an understandable manner. If you get stuck in this course I really hope you have taken Physics before. The maple portion of this course is a joke. This class needs to be removed.
She tries to be nice, but fails miserably. Her lecturing methods are atrocious, and even though she will give you chances to make up your marks, she may as well not since you barely understand her anyway.
She is just terrible. Amongst the worst profs i have see, i studied 24/7 and ended up with a B- while class avg was D or D- or something... Drop her classes.. there is no need to go to her lectures they ABS and postively USELESS
excellent prof!!! she knows what she's teaching ... i reccon. this prof for most of the physics courses!!! Although she's not easy but using her office hours and questions during the class clears the concept!! And she's really friendly!!! I loved it when she bought cookies, coffees and donuts during the presentation!!! Simply awesome!!
Nice Person, but HORRID at teaching, absolutely HORRID.DO NOT use her textbook, its full of mistakes, incomprehensible and totally ridden with bad grammar.Easy to pass this course if you study the needed material on your own and stick to MASTERING PHYSICS regularly. This teacher is a LOT better one on one, lecture? cant teach if her life depended on it.
Is helpful..but not a good professor at all...she has a knack for making the simplest concepts complex and hard! If you have a 'choice' to take a course with her I could not say I recommend it.
TERRIBLE, SHE CAN'T TEACH. SHE DOESN'T HELP, JUST SKIMS THROUGH EVERYTHING. She should find a new job.
Bottom of the list.
I think she realizes she doesnt have that many more years of teaching, so she's really screwing everyone over with her 'lack of information' technique that she uses throughout her classes
Doesn't really teach. Enjoys treating the class like they are children. Nice person out of class. However, can't don't know how to teach.
Terrible teacher. When emailing her for help with an assignment, she just emailed back 'It's too late now'. This class was just grade 12 physics all over again, I ended up teaching more people than she did.
This teaching cannot explain the most elementary things. Totally incomprehensible. If you havent taken Physics from earlier, you have my sympathy.
she is a useless prof..couldnt make clickers work, but they were still part of the overall mark..also she taught many classes about the most basic things and then dropped a really hard exam that most people failed
Her thick accent makes her impossible to understand and she's known to storm out of class. Obfuscates really simple topics. Do yourself a favour and attend the other physics profs' lectures in the same timeslot.
She's a nice lady but a horrible prof. She may know her material but she cannot teach it to students. She teaches you the most basic concepts and theory and then expects you to do well on the exam. I would suggest to any student that has Carvalho to switch out immediately.
REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS
ohmygosh where do I start... She can't explain for life.. she posts wrong answer keys.. makes mistakes on her own questiosn.. Doesn't post answer keys on blackboard.. has never responded to my emails... this class is a nightmare!
she's not a bad person, but she just can't teach properly - most times you go out of the class understanding less than you did before
Many people would either be talking and not listening, or be on their laptops doing nothing. No wonder so many people here gave her a bad rating -_-. Dr. Carvalho is the best proff I've had so far. She does derivations by hand and makes sure you understand them. She's easy to understand, GREAT at explaining thins and alike. Do your best to have her
...very nice lady, easy lecture, no labs, hard tests. she doesn't teach she explains the lesion like we suppose to be her ph.d. colleagues.
She is not a good prof. All she does is read off the slides like a robot. Might as well learn by textbook.Would not ever take class with her
This is far the best proff I have had so far. SHe takes time with examples, teaches slower so we understand and does not rush the lectures. PHysics is really boring and she keeps it interesting.
Many people got low marks because of her teaching style, she doesn't bother to explain, only reads off the slides quickly. please try not to take any classes with her, if you don't have any choice, then for lectures go to other classes but not her. she is horrible
Her style implies a great deal of independent study and a healthy dose of office hours. Study on your own and see her when you're stuck, and you shall succeed. I was at her office hours 6 hours in 2 days, and she helped me all the way though. The course requires a certain level of math knowledge: I came in without pre-req but got A+. Very nice lady
Intelligent and generally kind lady. Can't really teach to save her life though. Very tough tests, you really need to study hard in this course...
I cannot wish you enough luck if you have to take her class. She starts examples and writes things all over the board and expects you to follow it, and never finishes those examples. Midterm was brutal, class avg no more than 30%. ZERO teaching skills, go to her TA for help (hopefully you get eric) because even 1-1 she's useless
She has zero teaching skills and very disorganized. Her class notes were pretty useless, and her open book tests were brutal. You have to work really hard in this course. Extra help sessions did no help whatsoever, you're better off asking your TA. She is however a nice lady and knowledgeable about the course material.
Awful professor...she over complicated simple terms and equations, constantly put down the class and gave no time for clicker questions. She has a thick accent and should really not be teaching. Avoid if you can.
She made everything so much more difficult than it needed to be. Spent a lot of time on derivations of equations which we didn't need to know. Her exams were hard and her accent didn't help either. Still possible to get a decent mark in her class but you'll have to put in more effort than you would for a regular class.
really disorganized, inappropriately long days (5 hour lab followed by 3 hour lecture) make retaining anything from course impossible, office hours by appointment only, skeletal explanations, vague marking scheme, did not follow course outline subjects, 5 minute break in the middle of a 3 hour lecture. never seen anything this bad in academics
Definitely need to use her office hours to get better clarity. Lectures are a little hard to follow but are mandatory to get some practice problems done to help understanding. Work hard and ask questions and you will be rewarded.
She is somewhat disorganized when explaining abstract concepts in Physics. On the other hand, Carvalho is relatively easy-going and there for you if you need help. She also has a slower pace of teaching which makes things clearer. Expect to do some independent learning prior to lectures to help you understand better.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! Why? She is extremely disorganized, her powerpoints are cluttered with words, over-complicates simple concepts and does not give enough time for iClicker questions. Switch to another professor if you get the chance.
DON'T DON'T DON'T TAKE HER CLASS! SWITCH AS FAST AS YOU CAN WHEN YOU CAN! HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! honestly her notes are disorganized, she derives equations in the most complicated ways rather than just giving the important formulas, she stands there and does nothing, and she will give you less than a minute for extremely hard clicker questions.
Horrible, horrible prof. For someone who isn't strong in physics to begin with, she did not help at all. Going to her lectures made me feel even more confused and frustrated, she makes everyone feel stupid for not understanding complex ideas even though she doesn't explain them. Wouldn't be passing if it weren't for SLG extra help sessions.
Dr. Carvalho is a really great professor. She explains concepts very thoroughly, and provides great additional support during her office hours. The final exam/midterm problems are straight forward if you keep up with the practice problems. Would definitely like to have her again.
She's very helpful and her exams are very straightforward. People have to understand that physics is somthing that you do, not something thats done to you. So read the notes not once but 3x til you get the concepts, master the practice probs and ahh guaranteed you're golden. Slg sessions are handy too
Horrible professor, gives you 30 seconds for impossible clickers. Rarely responds to emails, and when she does she gives you attitude like you have wasted her precious time. Never have a I experienced a worse prof. Only point of going to lectures are to fail clickers. Would not recommend.
Physics is hard for a lot of people, so they need to work more at it. I think it's unfair to blame any professor for that. It's the professor's job to teach, and the student's job to learn. Dr. Carvalho teaches well and, in my experience, is happy to help those who show they want it. Like any other course, you need to apply yourself accordingly.
Horrible professor who does not enjoy teaching and made the class difficult.
Never taking her class again
She was great. The course was definitely difficult but she was very helpful if you actually asked her for help and tried to learn.
The course material is not hard, unfortunately, although very knowledgeable, she is incapable of passing her genius onto the students. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS MANDATORY!
Although knowledgeable, her lectures are disorganized and she usually explains concepts in an unclear manner. If you ask for help, she is great, but can be rude to students at times. When she solves problems, she is very rigid and "by the book." However, she really knows how to integrate technology with the learning environment.
Arguably the worst professor at Ryerson. If the majority of your students are failing it reflects on the professor. Marks unprofessionally based on favouritism. Does not in any way teach in a way to prepare you for the exams. Worksheets are essentially useless as there is no way to know the final answer and see if you are learning correctly. Worst.
Probably one of the worst profs at Ryerson. Not clear at all, rushes through examples and gives one-word answers when asked to explain something not understood. Worst of all, she gives 5 seconds for iClicker questions. She told us to practice physics by "making up our own questions"
Her passive-aggressive and impatient nature shows in each and every class. She gives minimal time to answer iClicker and loudly counts down the last few seconds left on the clock while you are trying to solve the problem. You don't understand something in class? Sounds like a "you" problem.
Not bad at teaching, you have to make sure you attend her lectures, as a lot of what she says is not on slides. She also posts a lot of practice help online, and is always readily available to answer questions thoroughly during office hours. My only complaints with her are that she is rude over email and in class, and calls students out.
Worst Professor at Ryerson. She cannot teach. She rushes through lecture slides and takes 5 seconds for each clicker question. She calls out people for talking.
Prof is barely audible, doesn't care if you pay attention, & it's easy to miss her doing a CRUCIAL example (not on D2L) that'll save your ass on tests. No office hours (Skype instead). You're in the dark solving problems, and won't even give a full answer for examples! Textbooks are ESSENTIAL, she only covers snippets of what you need to know.
Nuclear physics sounded interesting but this professors teaching style made me question my program choice. She is a nice lady but by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Very knowledgeable but not efficient in getting her point across so even going to class was pointless. Would like to see another prof teach.... So avoid it if you don't need it.
Probably the hardest, most difficult pass Ive ever received. First day of class she said that she wont teach but review content, meaning you teach yourself. Usually thats manageable but guidance is key in this class. Midterm avg was 52% and everyone needed a minimum 45% on exam to pass, most didnt pass so she bellcurved a few. Worst teacher
