She announced on the first day of class that she doesn't like teaching the subject. We paid for it for the rest of the semester. Also, hen lecturing she jumped one subject to another and was really hard to follow.

She was really nice and I think she somewhat enjoys her job, but she hates cheaters and paces the room during test. Her looking over my shoulder made me somewhat uncomforable, but I never cheated.

The notes were completely unorganized. She tested on the book info and not on the notes she gave us. She always jumps from one subject to another and is VERY hard to follow. The tests are difficult and the class sucked ass. And thats coming from a biology major!!! I busted my ass and didnt learn a thing!
This lady's crazy. I haven't learned anything in her class. She ALWAYS gets off subject and is so unorganized; you have to just guess whats going to be on the test. I hate that class.
Not easy to follow in class. Material on test is not material covered in class.
Horrible
Dr. Hinton was great. She is one of the few teachers that actually care about the students. I read a lot about getting off track, but I think she does a great job to keep class interesting. One of the best proffessors I have had at Mcneese.
She's kinda crazy, but she is one of the best teachers i have had in a while. The tests are hard if you don't study. She really cares about her students. If you are looking for an easy A don't take her class.
Hmmm, i have to admit it does seem like she is high sometimes. Shoot once she left out of the room laughing at nothing to keep on laughing out in the hall..(confused face)..and on top of that she is def. unorganized. All that cursing and meanness was uncalled for though i have to admit that 2.
Hard to follow. I don't care about her personal stories.
Incomprehensible
Hated her.. She is so mean. She gets off topic all the time. She makes you feel so stupid... The notes she give doesn't help so don't bother with them. Just read the chapters in the book.. Don't take this teacher. She is horrible.
she was very crazy, off topic, but she knew her stuff. most days. everyone says she's sooo hard, but i thought she was easy. she gives you the test questions! just bring a recorder and record them, then study them! doesn't get much easier!
I had her for lecture and enjoyed her class. She can be off topic sometimes, but her helpfulness makes up for that. Hinton does care about her students. She is fair in grading.
Heard prior to the class it was extremely hard, but Hinton is SO passionate about her class, she will help you in any way possible, she doesn't "give" out grades, so if that's what your looking for stop being so lazy and deal with it, I didn't study my notes, I just read the chapters completely before the test and made B's on my tests. Loved her.
She is very nice, fair on grading. She DOES give out some of the actual test questions! In order to get an A, you need to read the book even though she says all the questions are from the ppt.She usually make the first test very hard to make you study for the following ones. It gets a bit easier later on. She curves even though she says she doesn't.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. She is the worst I have ever had. Never prepared and very off subject. Also, talks about personal life and crazy tangents more than actual class material.
not helpful and unclear
this woman just cant teach, i can tell she knows a lot but cannot translate. comes to class late, never prepared, most of class is spent teaching her how to use the computer, and then she fusses for not studying even though most of her accusations are unfounded. she makes me want to give up nursing, i can only hope that my other profs care.
Difficult, just requires STUDYING. She will tell you that you don't have to read the book, just look up what you don't understand.READ THE BOOK. She just reads the ppt slides in class, which is not very helpful unless you read the book in advance. She's super sweet and WILL help if you ask. Also-she curves your grade if you stick it out to the end.
Dr. Hinton has high expectations - this should not be considered unreasonable for students in a university. You learn a lot in class but you do have to STUDY in order to do well. This is not a class to take if you are lazy.
I love the ole fart, she's so sweet but if you get on her bad side like talking during her lecture, she'll get pissed really fast. She's a great teacher, often forgetful, but extremely intelligent. Her tests are NOT a joke, you have to study EVERY LITTLE THING. You can't whiz your way to an A in this class.
READ YOUR TXTBOOK!
Horrible is far from defining her. I studied her notes and she grades from the book after telling us she makes her test from her notes. Ughhh...Students in my class constantly corrected her mistakes. No point of attending class she tells stories instead of teaching. Taking her class was the worst mistake EvER!!
She IS the sweetest professor i have ever had-she really has a heart for her students and wants them to learn, but when it comes to the class itself is difficult to follow. Oh take her for Lab, its fun!
I don't see how people can find Dr. Hinton to be mean. I've had her for Biol 102 and 225 and if you attend class, be respectful, and show her that you care, you won't have a problem. She is a great teacher.
I loved her!! She was amazing. Her lecture was extremely entertaining. Her tests were a little rough, but if you study and look at what she hints will be on the test you will be fine. She is the sweetest lady I have ever met and definitally one of my favorite proffesors. If I could take another class with her I would. :)
She is not as bad as people say she is. I loved her class. She is an excellent teacher. If you recieve a bad grade in her class, you either need to spend more time studying or you need to go to class. This is a college course in anatomy, it's not supposed to be an easy A.
Loved her as a person but she doesn't teach. She reads straight from her notes so this is a class where u will literally spend hours on end studying!
i love dr. hinton. she cares a lot about the students and does a great job of helping them out. a lot of people gripe that she's hard but i think it's just laziness. she teaches anatomy so if you're getting bad grades it's because you're not trying hard enough. dr. hinton is suuuper sweet.
She was not as bad as I had expected, but I wouldn't exactly elect to take her again. She is very unorganized, and forgets what she says. If she doesn't follow her notes she gets so far off track that you'll tune her out to not get confused. My advice: study a few pages out of the book everyday!!
If you read the chapters and pay attention in class, you will do fine. Do not miss class or use your phone in class because she will remember and point you out.
Very easy class. should have no problems whatsoever
She's hard but what college course isn't. She's very passionate about her job & loves her students. Wants them to do well. She does go off topic sometimes so you will have to read the book. It is possible to make an A if you are dedicated. Go talk to her in her office if you don't understand something. She really wants to help
You gotta work for an A in 102. Test are multiple choice, but dont be fooled, you cant study for a couple hours and expect to pass. Also, she reads from test during the review and tells you what you need to focus on. My advise- read the chapters, take the masteringbio.com practice tests, and DO NOT miss the review lecture. theres ur A, your welcome
Study the book. Study the book. Study the book. I think she is a good professor.
STUDY from the book!! It is where her tests come from. Very hard class, but if you study you can pass. She is all over the place in her lectures...you have to read the book.
She has the worse mood swings known to man. I really think she is Bi-Polar. Her lectures are choppy and boring. When she is in a good mood she is great. Her tests are very difficult. You must study the book plus every other source available.
She was a nice lady but not a very good teacher. She forgets what class she's teaching between 101 and 225. Her lectures are very confusing because sometimes she doesn't even understand them. Her test don't come from the notes most of the questions come from googling practice tests. She is pretty old and forgetful, I think its time to retire.
One of the best professors on campus. Loves her students. EXTREMELY helpful and lenient on exams. All exams are 55 questions but its only out of 50. So if you make a 90%, you actually come out with a 100%. She gives loads of extra cred. I think she gave us 30 pts by the end. She loves the book, and tells u what to expect on the exam.
She by far the worst teacher I have ever had she gets off topic easily and just crazy and her study guides r pointless
I love Dr. Hinton as a person, but she is not a good teacher. She expects everyone to already know the material that she is teaching and she is shocked when we don't. She likes to think that she is fair, but in reality she's unfair a lot.
a little on the crazy side, keeps class interesting yet it is usually not about the subject being talked about that day. over all she is nice but tests are really tricking and she expects everyone to have had bio 101!!
I took Doc. Hinton for Bio lab and I loved her. She is amusing which makes her a good lab teacher. If you need a lab teacher then take her!
She is an older lady and has her PhD...so overly smart. She excepts every one to always understand everything. What she does not understand is that biology 101 is not mandatory to get into her class. She provides power points EVERY week and does nothing but reads from them. Her tests make you think you did good until you get the grade back!
She goes off into rants that have nothing to do with the lecture. She gives a study guide but the material on the study guide has nothing to do with what is on the test.
She is not EASY! But she dosn't teach high school either. To make good grades, do not just MEMORIZE the material like advisors say, you must actually LEARN the material BEFORE the lecture. her class should NOT be studied for like other classes though.
Dr. Hinton was one of the most ridiculous teachers ever. gives study guides that are nowhere on the tests. she is easily distracted and rants about nothing.. she is about a 1000 years old and she is super smart so she naturally assumes everyone should be as equally interesting in biology and have taken 101... DO NOT TAKE!!!!
I LOVE Dr. Hinton! She is an awesome person and so entertaining. She only reads her slides in class(which you can do at home) the only reason I went to class is because she gives info on extra credit. The majority of the time her reviews are nothing like the test. no final review but she did add extra points-total of 55 extra point for semester
Read your book, every chapter, the whole chapter. Don't listen to her in class, she'll tell you all the wrong things. Don't rely on her notes, they are completely useless. If you can teach yourself, the class is easy. If not, DON'T TAKE HER. Just read your book & study from there & the class is a breeze!
You have to study alot and put in the hours but making an A isnt hard to do if you read the material and understand it. She is very hepful if you go to her office.
Dr. Hinton moves pretty fast, both with the notes and during office hours. Lots of fun stories in lecture and the lab wasn't so bad either, just don't miss any sessions. Ohmygosh her story about the monkey in the shower!
Passionate and friendly. Makes class interesting, but also makes you work for your grade. I would recommend her to anyone!!
She the funniest professor I've had so far at Mcneese but the class wasn't that easy. The material wasn't outlined very well, it was kind of all over the place.
She is a really great professor!! College is not supposed to be easy, and anyone who is lazy will not do well in her class, which is how it should be! She almost always gives you the test questions during the review, gives bonus questions on every test, and curves the grades. All you have to do is STUDY! She's also very helpful if there's anything you don't understand. All this, and she's very entertaining and sweet! I loved her and recommend her to anyone who actually wants to learn.
She is a very sweet lady. Loves to lecture. Barely used the textbook. All her notes are on moodle and she gives lots of extra credit and bonus points. But you have to study to pass her tests. She will explain anything that needs more understanding. I am taking her again next semester.
Awesome teacher, but you absolutely must study, due to the broadness the subject, it is alot to cover in one class. Study, go to class. The material is challenging, don't expect to pass a test only studying a couple of days for it.
Dr. Hinton is a sweet lady, a little crazy too. You absolutely cannot be lazy in this class. You must read the chapters and understand the material. Don't fall behind, stay on track. Her office is always open, and I recommend you take advantage of that. Show her you are trying, and she WILL help. She wants her students to pass! Highly recommend!
Very nice professor and incredibly informed on her subject. Lectures consist of mostly Powerpoints (that are also available online) and other small facts. Literally everything that is on the exams can be found in the textbook. She also gives huge amounts of extra credit, such as quizzes and free questions on tests.
She expects everyone to know what she's talking about. She'll start talking and laughing with the class the yells for no reason. Gets easily off task. Test are ridiculous . DO NOT TAKE HER
I had heard from a friend that she was awesome and her class was super easy. I am a straight A student and I had a hard time keeping a B average in her class. She goes off topic A LOT and she expects you to always know more than you really do. Her tests are way more into depth than she teaches!
I was a strait A student and I had a hard time keeping a B in her class. She expects you to know things and her tests are wayyy more in depth then she teaches!
The worst biology class I have ever taken. I go to class and sit there just to be confused. I used to love science but now I feel like she is just shoving slides into my brain. tests are terribly worded! Do not take her!
Such a sweet lady, not the best professor. Test questions come from different places, a lot off the internet. Teaches the subject in a broad manner and tests in a VERY precise manner. Don't expect an A just by reading the chapters and powerpoints. Get ready to teach yourself.
I don't know how she can even call herself a teacher she doesn't teach. She reads off of power points the entire class time and none of what she reviews is on the test. She is awful!Who cares if she's nice she is there to teach!
her bio 101 is super easy but if you are a nursing major from expirence DO NOT TAKE HER FOR 225 her class will not prepare you for 226 and you will be lost she is nice and willing to help but she doesn't teach she reads from slides and none of her test comes from her slides it comes from the book also she second guesses what she says in classALWAYS
She is a very sweet lady. She gives out plenty of bonus points in class as well as on tests. If you pay attention and study for this class, there's no reason you can't make a good grade. She does take attendance but if you missed class, you won't fall behind--just read the book.
Not a bad class, professor is very nice and cares about her students. She literally just reads her slides word for word in class however, and that makes studying a little difficult. I found the best way to study was to read the book (a definite must), while reading her PowerPoint slides. Going to class is necessary because she gives extra credit.
Absolutely horrible! DO NOT take her. The test are impossible and have nothing to do with the slides she gives!
She is a sweet lady though very spacey. She will go off on tangents about herself or her family and the stories are humorous but is not class material. Reading the book to study is a must. Her class notes are simply reading her ppts and not much of that material is tested. She does give lots of extra credit in class so attendance is a must also.
Super nice lady, but super hard class. If you can learn by reading from the chapters, then you should totally take her but wouldn't recommend her if you can't.
This is a difficult to course to begin with. Dr. Hinton jumps around a lot and basically reads you the power points word for word. Study guides are a little helpful, but there is no telling what she will put on an exam. It helps that they are multiple choice. Do good in lab and it will help your grade
Biology for me was hard and even though Dr. Hinton's personality will have you laughing and confused at the same time, I might take her again for Anatomy and Physiology. If you cannot handle a teacher getting off track and always laughing then do not the her. She's a happy spirit that really knows her Biology! She's awesome!
Extremely hard class. She doesn't explain anything clearly. I had to drop the class after the second test, because my highest grade out of two tests that I studied daily for was a 55%. She doesn't curve nor drop the lowest test. You are going to mess up your GPA if you take her!!
Only take midterm and final test in this class but the tests are still really hard and are worth a lot of points! she's the coolest teacher I've ever had! her class is pretty hard especially if you don't go to class but she's a really cool teacher
She's really sweet and funny. She's kinda wonky but we all love her! Study up and you should do fine!
I loved her as a person before I took her class. She is funny and sweet but inside the classroom she is like a totally different person. She thinks every student cheats. If you take her please please please study from TEXTBOOK cause every single test is from book..
She's incredibly sweet and funny, but don't let that distract you. She is incredibly confusing and hard. The class gets easier along the way because she will review in more detail each test. People will drop the class because it starts off really hard but stick with it and visit her office. She drops the lowest grade and gives up to 35 bonus pt
Decent professor. Doesnt lecture much, basically just reads ppts in class. Gets sidetracked extremely easy. I laughed at her a lot. Gives reviews a week before the exam. But its not always whats actually going to be on the exam. I learned this the hard way. READ chapters! Make flashcards. Use QUIZLET! Her exams are on there. Good luck! :)
If you ask her for help, she will come trhough for you! If you do not study hard, you wont pass!!!!! That is simply becausethe work is hard and a lot of small details. Not many ways to teach it, if not off power points, but this is not bad! She goes over it & over info if asked, to help you remember & learn it! She loves her students and it shows!
If you take this class, do not skip!!! She is an amazing professor, but the class is hard!!!!! You have to have rock solid study skills!!!
Okay, she in her seventies but truly a beautiful lady with a beautiful soul! God Bless her!!! Her class is hard, but if you do your part, you will do fine!!!!! Do notskip this class!
Great lady!!! Her class is hard, but she lightens the mood with smiles and laughs! She REALLY knows the material and will expect you to work hard, as you should! Do your part and you will succeed!
Juliana Hinton, PhD is by far the most extraordinary instructor I have ever taken at McNeese State. She Has a true passion for her students. To pass this class pay close attention to where she focuses on. If you just learn the general stuff then you're not fit for 225. Dive deep into the book with each lecture and you will pass with flying colors.
There is a reason why I took Dr. Hinton for Biology 101 & 225-She's an amazing person!! Her lectures are easy and she is a bit of a talker, but do know that her test are Tough so you will have to put in some effort! However, She gives Test reviews. Her quizzes are killing my grade BUT SHE Makes me LOVE BIOLOGY! P.S. I wasted my $ on the textbook!
no matter how much I studied, when I got the test, I never felt I did well. I made decent grades after the 6-14 point increase she gives per test due to her giving us the wrong info or questions that we never discussed. She is funny and somewhat temperamental when questioned about grading, test,Or moodle. Don't know if she writes her own test.
She's definitely a character! Usually knows what she's talking about most of the time. She does have pop quizzes!! You do need the book for her lecture classes. Her tests aren't easy per say, but she does curve tests, so don't get to tangled up on what you made. She'll swear that she doesn't curve test, but she certainly does! Study. Read. Talk.
Teaches powerpoints with added info and personal antidotes. Very sweet and willing to be flexible about grades. Interesting and a good teacher. If ever confused she will find the answer. Would take her for all my classes!
Juliana is great. She goes off topic occasionally, but that's a good thing because it keeps the class interesting. You need to put in an effort! This isn't poetry class. I recommend reading the textbook before the material is covered in class. If you take the course seriously, you will do fine.
She is VERY scatterbrained. Everyone I have come in contact with has given me a different method to pass her class; none really helped me. Read the book. MEMORIZE IT. Quizlet is now your new best friend.
She's a super super tough teacher. You have to work for your grades. However, her tests are insanely hard. You have to start studying the day you start notes because if you don't , you will not pass your tests. She is super super hard and hates cheaters and trust me she will find you out! That all being said, she knows her stuff!
Dr. Hinton is a professor that won't baby you. You need to pre-read material before lecture, come with specific questions, and start studying from day one! She is so kind and helpful during office hours. Whiners probably are procrastinators who expect a 101 course to be High school 2.0.
I LOVE Dr. Hinton. Her tests are hard at first but once all the lazy people dropped she began reading us our tests and telling us to get our recorders out. Plus if you get on quizlet and look up the material, thats where she gets her tests from, they're all online. She's super funny and always happy and made my day everyday.
She's always so ditzy and sometimes you'll question her credentials because of it but she really does know her stuff. Our class loved her! There are only two tests, the first one is pretty rough if you don't study (I made a 68), but the final is easy (like look over it the day before for a B). p.s. ALWAYS read over labs before going to class.
The only grade's that you will get for this class are test grades, so make sure you're a good test taker. Also, she often goes off-topic and expects you to remember things that she has said only once.
She is to the point and keeps you laughing with her sense of humor. If you skip her lectures you won't do as good come test time because she goes over things that may not be on her lecture sheets. Reading the chapters in the book helps out come test time. She is good about reviewing and going over scantrons for mistakes
she goes off topic a lot, makes it hard to pay attention and understand her
Her tests are a little hard, but she does give a review before every test. She's hilarious and reminds me of my mawmaw. Great teacher for my first semester at McNeese.
Dr. Hinton is super sweet and witty. For lectures, it's really boring; she reads off the powerpoint and they're on her moodle too. Her exams questions are often on quizlet and she reviews the class day before the exam day, I recommend recording her with your phone and searching the questions.
Best teacher I ever had. All of you numb nutz that say she's not good, are idiots. You will KNOW biology when you finish her class. As for me, I'm headed to medical school because of her! Where are you going...?! heh?
The tests were tough, so I had to study a lot. The book is not used in class, but it is helpful when studying. If you show you care, then she will do what she can to help.
Dr. Hinton knows what she is saying, but it's kind of hard to understand if you don't know biology already. There are four tests and she curves them. She messed up reviewing for our final, so she doubled our highest test grade for our final grade. YMMV
Very nice lady, but for the most part she was unable to remain on schedule with going through materials for lectures. Dropped her class after the first test; 85% of the class failed because she did not grade in accordance to the book, slides or study guide she designed herself and told/made us use; was unwilling to discuss why she graded that way.
A solid option for Bio lab. Explains everything clearly before starting lab and will guide you if you need help
I would totally take Hinton for every Biology course if I could! She was amazing! I loved her! She is so caring and hilarious! She goes off of topic a lot but make sure you show up to the reviews! Make sure you study the reviews because they are JUST like the tests (like word for word). Answer questions and she will give you bonus points :-)
Overall, she was a decent teacher. Her test reviews are pretty much exactly what is going to be tested. Only bad thing is I'm afraid I am not going to be prepared for BIO 226. Also, her grades are not always solid. They are likely to change, but she gives bonus points on tests.
Dr. Hinton is the best instructor! Hands down! She really helps you if you go to her office for office hours. She gives you a great review! She does go off topic really easily in her lectures but she presents the information in a way that it is really easy to understand. She's so funny! I would definitely take her again! :)
Her first test in bio 101 is just to make kids drop her class its extremely hard, her lab is insane and she makes the midterm harder than the other lab teachers, She is never in her office during office hours, get ready to study if you take her class, take maxwell instead..... Dr. Hinton is really nice and funny but her tests are insane.
Sweet lady, gives out bonus opportunities, but tests are hard. Whenever she gives out the reviews, its hard to understand what she is asking for on the test. Overall, the class is good, but the first test made half the class drop. You must study a lot in order to pass her exams. Also, she mainly refers to the textbook, so read lots of that.
her first test you are going to fail it, the rest of the tests are a breeze, i hated her class but now i love it!
Very sweet and funny lady. The first test I failed heavily on it, but the rest of the exams was a breeze. Quizlet will become your best friend in this class. There is millions of quizlets for this class. The reviews she gives are exactly going to be on the exam word for word. She always goes off topic but she really cares for her students.
Dr. Hinton is funny and kind and always keeps the class hyped but she messed up my grades and I kept checking them but she didnt put them in until after grades were due and I was supposed to end up with a 89 B but somehow I ended up with a C on my transcript. If youre going to take her class, CHECK YOUR GRADES WITH HER TO SEE IF THEY ARE CORRECT
She explains with longs powerpoints, a totally confusion. She only says the date of the exams in class no emails. She in kind but doesn't help too much. Drops the lowest grade.
She doesn't remember what she has/hasn't told you so there's a lot of material on the test that she didn't go over or expects you to read in the textbook even though she didn't teach it. You really have to study hard to pass and make good grades.
Gives unclear reviews where she breaks out into story. Tests are harder than any other teacher wit the same class. The final this year has 100+ questions when other classes have a fraction of this.
Just reads from the board slide for slide. Very unclear on what needs to be studied on Exam's. PowerPoint's and test don't usually match up
Took her online for Bio 101 L - only graded on weekly online lab assignments and a midterm and final in person. Some info didnt match up to exams, but overall a kind, funny lady !
