The test is really hard! You must go to the class. Always reply your email. :) She is really helpful. You can ask her lots of questions and she is willing to help. We watched some vedios too. You can learn a lot from the vedio. Good teacher!

hard class but u will learn something. The tests are hard, but its not that hard to get good scores if u work hard. BTW, the tests are take home!!! She is fun too!
You are ok during the quarter, but the final will kill you at the end. Easy to get 3.5 since you can take tests home. Recommend for everybody
What a great professor! What a great class! If you like to be challenged this is a class for you. Julie is super nice, very knowledgeable and a very hard worker.
She was not my favorite teacher.
She was not my favorite teacher. The class was totally different than i expected.
she is nice.. helpful, really knowledgeable... but, the tests are hard... this is challenging class... you will learn something new in this class, but this class is not recommended if you expect 4.0...
I'm sad it's taken me this long to post about Julie, but she is absolutely fantastic. As a science major, she taught me a lot about myself, and I spent hours with her after class. If you want to truly grow as a person, take her class, if you want an easy A, don't. While I did 4.0 everything, I worked hard for it, but if you're bright you can 4.0 it
Amazing teacher! Also a generally engaging and intelligent person. You'll get a lot more from the class, as well as a better appreciation of social science in general, if you spend some time talking to her independently.
Her British accent is great! She is a great teacher. She cares about her students and has great stories. Her tests are open book. She tends to repeat herself. She knows a lot about what she is teaching and explains well. Dont be afraid to ask questions and participate in discussions. Watched movies fairly often, they were always fascinating!
She is a great and easy teacher. She gives great examples to clarify what the book is saying. To get a good grsade in the class you must speak up and interact with her alot. She is super easy and most of her test are open book.
Best teacher I've ever had. If you're looking for a class that will really make you consider what you believe, take one of her classes. You have to put in the effort, but as long as you do it's completely possible to get an A. Her classes are engaging and fascinating.
hard class. good information. really like the prof.
Great instructor! I was struggling in class but ask for help and recieved it!
Very hard class but well worth it! For our class, she did 1 take home test (which is a lot harder than her in class tests) The questions can be vague at times and you definitely need to study and take notes!! Please Please consider how hard you are willing to work, how important a 4.0 is and how much interest you have in sociology.
Hard class. Liked the take home exam a lot better than the one in class. Learned a lot. Mrs aldcros is a very funny. I don't think I'll be the same again after this class.
Hard class if you don't pay attention, read or take notes. Great teacher, makes tests fairly easy to take. And pretty much tells you how to do well on her tests and usually lets you work in groups.
Had her for Criminology. She very politically driven and is very open about it. I walked away from the class with the same knowledge I had before, but I now know her political stance... That's all we really discussed.
I had her for crimialogy. All we talked about were her political viewpoints. The class is very one sided. I didnt learn anything except her polictal views.
Learned so much from this class though it wasn't what I expected. This was my first sociology class.
Great class.
took criminology and sex and gender from dr adcroft in fall last year winter this year. i learned so much. both classes had research papers but we got a lot of help on them. two exams and a midterm and a final were take home and relied heavily on the text. you have to read the text to pass. don't go to class if you havent read what your assigned
LOVED everything about this class. Scary good professor.
She is from Liverpool. So fun just to listen to her. She is interesting. Topic interesting. Text, not so much. Hard to chug through it.
Class lecture was interesting, her examples fascinating but I am number grade kind of person. Tests pretty tough, an median, to her, of 74% is good. Also can get less that 50% on her Q of the day. Research paper worth 20% 2,000 words, then present using PowerPoint to the class is worth 15%. She empathizes, "this is a 200 level class."
I hate this class. Intersting assignments, but A TON of reading. She is not very clear at all except when making study guides. Test are ridiculous and SO unclear. Median test score has been a D- each time.
This class was difficult for me. She is very set in her way, even though the class average is a D she refuses to change her teaching methods. Lectures and discussions are very interesting, but that still doesn't fix the grades. Frustrating class, would not reccomend her.
She's very passionate about the subject. She's challenging but you learn alot of great material. Not a hard teacher by any means but she does put you to work. A fantastic teacher and the best of all the classes I've taken so far.
She is set in her ways and if you challenge her she will make your life hell. She has no business being an educator. She is there to teach not to tell how I am going to think. I do NOT recommend her.
Awesome instructor. Knows her stuff, and I learned a lot from her. At the time I had her class I wasn't entirely sold on her, because she really challenged my world view. Looking back its made me a better, more open minded person. Very thought provoking class, everyone should take it
Great teacher! Really understanding and knows her stuff well but isn't pushy about it. Wish we had more time in class.
Teaching style was not a very engaging teacher, she doesn't help you extra. She is not understanding at all. She is very rude and her criticism is offensive. She won't hesitate to tell you that your work is 'unacceptable, and horrible' among other offensive words she spews. Her class is difficult, she is not lenient! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!!!!!
I took her class til' the last drop date and did not like her. Her organization was bad and will take forever answering your emails or just won't answer them. She pushes her ideas on you to the point where you become uninterested in the topic. Her test questions are unclear and a lot of people in my class failed them. She is NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
There are a lot of issues with this class. I genuinely worked hard. I took notes, I read the chapters (180 pages in 2 weeks), and came to class. I still got an F on the quiz. The "mean" score for my class was 68. Julie tries to blame the scores on laziness, but 30 minutes for 43 questions is insane. Hard work doesn't=good grade in this class
What is studied and talked about in class has nothing to do with the actual tests. She expects you to memorize every detail of the texts within 4 chapters without any regard to it in class. Class is very interesting, but both assignments and tests are hard and very time consuming. She sets up her class where most students will not get a good grade.
It was so refreshing to have a teacher that was so obviously passionate about the subject. The class was not easy and she expects you to stay up on reading, movies, articles and anything else she throws at you. Very interesting though! I'd take her again.
Julie seems nice and has an entertaining accent but made my life super difficult and frustrating for 9 weeks. In class is somewhat interesting but almost demeaning, always contradicting and especially pointless. Doesn't help with tests. 4 crazy tests. 2 projects that are a lot of work but saved my grade.
At first it was very interesting, but she doesn't enforce being in class at all and all we do is watch movies... everyday. THEN BOOM big research paper and project lol. you can tell she is passionate and knows her stuff.. but the tests have nothing to do with the lecture and its super unorganized.
Great professor. Knows her stuff but makes you wooorrrk! Its something every other day and pretty much every weekend you should be doing. But on the flip side you do learn a lot which is what matters as you are paying to learn the material. I found her to be pretty cute as well.
She is a very tough grader and like other people here have said very stuck on her ways of teaching even though not many of her students are doing well. Like said by someone earlier, she puts all the blame of having a low grade on the student. Lectures were interesting though.
Julie is a nice person, but is the total opposite when asking for help online. You think you know your chapters and material for that week for testing? Think again. The testsquizzes are extremely difficult for no reason. I expected this to be an easy class, but there's something new almost every day. NOT RECOMMENED
The whole class was based on 5 discussions, 2 exams, and one paper. It's hard to get a sense of what she demands in the exams since the questions can range from eerily specific to general. The paper, if not taken seriously, can be taxing on your grade. She gives great constructive criticism and feed back within a day.
She is a horrible teacher. She expects you to read at least 4 chapters a week from the book and watch videos and read articles to answer discussions that she gives once a week. Everything in her class is due at noon and she won't hesitate to call your work bad or horrible. Do not take her class if you want to fail. She doesn't explain anything.
This class is relatively easy. You have 5 discussions due every other Thursday and quizzes that open every other Friday. Discussions are a huge part of your grade but they aren't hard, just do them. Julie is really strict with deadlines so don't be late!!! You will do well in this class if you take the time on discussions and 1 assignment.
Julie is a decent teacher, she is passionate about sociology. One problem I had with her though, is when I would ask a question over canvas she was very condescending and rude. She would make me feel stupid over asking something, and wouldn't end up helping me with what I was asking. It's funny, she is very helpful and nice in person.
When you in her class, you will feel that you don't know what is her emphasis and the quiz is too difficult. If you really don't want to pass sociology 101 class, please choose this teacher.
This professor is extremely critical of your work. Never use your opinion in this class.. because whatever it is, its "wrong" to her. Every paper I have ever submitted my OPINION is incorrect. She is a very condescending professor who belittles her students every chance she gets. Would not recommend!!!
Probably one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Talks to much, and most of her quiz questions are "what did I say" type of questions. Gave me a fail on a research paper because I didn't do a format correctly. Horrible teaching and would not recommend taking her.
This was a pretty good class, I finished with a 95%. I would say the hardest thing are the tests ( which are taken online), so make sure you do the reading! Also there are two papers which aren't hard to ace and one presentation. Also, be there attendance is 15% of your grade!
The reviews on here are not that great. Julie gives great lectures and assigns little homework. If you're lazy you will not pass, but if you put in the little bit of time and effort her class asks for you will do fine. She has two big projects, her quizzes are on quizlet if you look, and her class is relatively easy. Put in the time. trust me.
Julie was AMAZING in her availability and her willingness to help. ASK QUESTIONS!! She will always answer and gave great feedback on grades. Her grading criteria was also clear. She isn't the prof for laziness, she expects you to work for your grades. She is also very direct which I loved. If you want sugarcoated feedback, you won't get it.
Ms. Julie is an outstanding teacher. Loved all her lectures, truly, and her british accent was so lovely, even her. She was definitely lenient and nice with me over the course. I would extremely recommend her to anyone, but you just gotta read so much every week to get ready for the tests, which weren't that hard, anyway.
Julie is willing to help so don't be afraid to ask (the fastest way is to text her). We have 3-4 assignments/week and she doesn't put them all on Canvas at once so you cannot look ahead the assignments in class. There are 2 big assignments and 4 quizzes, no in-class exam. Her lecture is interesting and she gives lots of easy-to-understand examples.
Julie is an amazing professor. She has two big assignments that she grades leniently IF you put the effort. Her quizzes are quite easy and she seems to pull her questions from quizlet. She is very caring and understanding and makes people feel like they belong in her class. Her lectures are like she is having a one of one conversation - admirable
36 Assignments, 4 Tests, and 2 big projects for just a 101 class. Class is HEAVILY taught from left leaning material and her view is the most "right". Don't bother putting your opinions on the assignments, I tried that once and got a 75% on it because she didn't like what I said. A lot of the stuff she says makes me sick and resent the class.
She said this 1st day of class "I don't think everyone should get a 4.0, average grade for this class is a D". Class lives up to those words, ridiculous amount of work for a 101 class. Highly advise you to consider your options carefully unless you want to slaughter your GPA.
Julie's class inspired me and made me think deeper about real world issues. There is quite a bit of homework that you cannot turn in late, but tests are easy and the material is interesting. There are a few papers to do, which are easy, but time consuming. Overall, Julie is kind and easy to reach if you have questions.
Julie is an great professor! Her lectures are amazing. They are thought-provoking and question your beliefs. Your perspective in life will change a lot after taking her class! Julie does give A LOT of homework though- but on the other hand, she grades very leniently if you put in the effort to do all her homework. Her quizzes are tricky!
Julie is a TALKER. She rarely talks about the things that are actually needed for the quiz, she mostly just rants about her own opinions. She assigns 3 assignments a week, which are easily graded, but the quizzes are HARD, but they are at-home quizzes. She also tries to force her opinions on you. Good luck if you're not a vegan.
You legit don't have to come to class to pass. She just talks and shoves her opinion down your throat and if you object, lol good luck. Her quizzes are the hardest thing in the entire world and she doesn't teach any of the things on them in class. This class was a waste of time.
The quizzes are SUPER DIFFICULT, even if you take a bunch of notes and do all the assignments. The questions are very specific and are more based on small details that we're supposed to remember rather than larger concepts. She makes you listen to and watch hour long videos and podcasts for assignments. Then she uses these in the quizzes.
very good teacher
Amazing teacher, she is their to help you and understand life through your point of view. Taking her class changed my life.
this class isn't exactly hard in the traditional sense. Instead it is hard in that it gives busy work. for example every week the homework typically consists of watching a 2 hour movie, listening to a 20 minute podcast and reading a few articles (all of which you have to answer question about). too much busy work and a pretentious teacher.
Even though the class isn't too homework heavy, she's a pretty tough grader. She will call you out on the littlest things and take away points with ease. Her exams are super specific; I failed both of them but most of your points are in the discussions and one assignment. Don't even try to cheat on her exams because you won't find it online.
She is a very good professor, passionate about sociology. If you do all the assigned work and attend class, you will do fine. I recommend her and do not let the negative comments stop you from taking a professor like Dr. Julie.
She will push her opinions on you and try to act like they are facts. Don't try and disagree with her. Ridiculous amounts of homework due every week on canvas. She counts on indoctrinating children that don't have enough knowledge to know the things she says are not true. If you don't agree with her opinions you won't pass.
Overall she's pretty alright. There's a lot of reading and watching of films/movies in her class. The class is mostly made up of discussions, quizzes and a food assignment for your final paper. Majority of people end up doing everything last minute and everything is pretty much handed to you to work with. It's a Pretty straightforward class.
Amazing professor, very very extremely well educated about the things she teaches and share. However, get ready with ALL the homework, it is almost every single day, however they're not too hard if you put in the effort. Get ready for all the long podcasts and movies. Though they are lengthy, they will open your eyes to America.
This was by far the best and most worth my time class I have taken at Green River. I learned so much and really enjoyed going to class everyday. There is a lot of assignments, but they are not hard, and they are things you actually should now. Highly recommend this class
Julie is a fantastic professor. I highly recommend taking any of her classes, especially sociology 101. Taking notes is essential and very helpful on quizzes. There are two big papers throughout the quarter, but there is a clear and detailed outline of what to write about.
The material isn't technically hard, but the amount of work you have to do outside of class is overwhelming! From podcasts to articles to the textbook, lots of effort should be put into this class if you want a good grade. Despite everything, this class was very worthwhile and eye opening. I recommend managing your time wisely if you want to pass!
She is the worst teacher I've ever had. There are some discussions for a week. We should read a lot of lectures and videos. I tried my best for the assignment because each assignment is 100points. And she is grading really tough, and not giving good feedback. IF YOU WANT TO GET A GOOD GPA I WILL RECOMMEND NOT TAKING HER CLASS!!!
I took this class online, and within the first week I had to drop, the workload was way too much. For the first week of class she expected us to watch videos, listen to podcasts, read articles, and then write 4 detailed discussion board posts (basically essays). Definitely over 10 hours. The way the class was laid out was confusing and overwhelming
no zoom meeting only assignment, quiz is hard and over the schedule
If youre only taking this one class for one semester; go for it. If you have any other classes this is not the one for you. The workload is enormous for one class, way over the 10 hours recommended. She nitpicks a lot of details and she also is very condescending in the way she corrects. No zoom or recorded lectures at all; teach yourself.
Dr. Aldcroft was by far the best professor/ educator I have ever had. I work 12 hour shifts- full time at a high stress job. Julie worked with me on assignments. Without her compassion and flexibility, I wouldnt have been able to take her class. Listen to her feedback, do all reading and HW. The class is worth it. She truly cares.
I took her last year fall quarter and here is my advice. Don't take her if you are busy. Work loads are just too crazy to follow. She is definitely a very respected professor who will give a lot, but the work load is just too much.
This class was HARD, it took a lot of work, however - I learned more in this class than any other, and got GREAT, detailed feedback from her on every assignment. ANALYZE and take lots of notes on all assigned materials and you'll do great! She really wants you to learn and cares about what you get out of her class!
Many kick and scream about Professor Aldcroft's classes. Even with such passion, though, they seem unable to articulate why exactly they despise her, and I think this says much more about them than about her. The class is not easy, but it shouldn't be . Try and succeed. You need to read and write, but not in excess. You will think deeply.
Julie is one of those professors where she will challenge you and make you think beyond your limits. She gives you a lot of readings, audios and videos to watch for 2 weeks then you will do discussions which are not too hard but you have to make sure you do all the work. The quizzes are not hard if you do all the work. She is a great person too.
I like what she was trying to say, but she is very condescending and extremely picky when grading. The amount of readings/podcasts/movies were horrendous. If you have other things that you like to do or if you have other classes, I do not recommend her. I withdrew after 2 weeks. It's possible to do well, but the work/reading is just so excessive.
Very condescending. Very slow at emailing back and when she did, I knew it was not going to answer my question. Her favorite was "okay name...". I did everything in her class and made sure to follow examples, when I asked how to do better, she told me to withdraw from her class that day (I was passing). It's a hard class but doable if dedicated.
All but 5 students dropped out. No lecture no clues about what she is looking for on quizzes, which include essay questions that she misnames short answer questions in the description. She will wreck your grade-point. Lots of white bashing and men bashing. She grades you down if you don't agree with her bent. Worse teacher in my entire life!
This teacher is arrogant and demeaning in her tone. No hints about what she is looking for - no lectures - highly critical. Enjoys wrecking grade point - half the class dropped during the first half - hates men and whites - supports the lowest elements of society while disparaging those who are successful. Bitter.
Not a bad class, it was interesting but the assignments were tough. Definitely start on them at least a week in advance to break up study time. There are not many assignments which was nice, but they are far apart for a reason.
The course itself was interesting, but the workload felt immense, less assignments, tons of material. Critical grader and her tone can seem harsh and inconsiderate. Definitely agree with others to not take the class if you don't have an abundance of time.
It is very hard for international students.
Extremely strict with deadlines, and no excuse is good enough. No extra credit is given and quizzes are extremely difficult. Weekly papers and many video and articles. It is a good class to view the world as is, but maybe better with another teacher.
As a running start student, I was nervous to take this class, but I loved it. As the quarter is coming to an end, I'm really going to miss this class as well as the professor. She did such a good job with explaining concepts and makes sure you understand. The class itself is so interesting, and I will be taking another course with this professor.
Worst professor ever. There's a weekly discussion post which is basically a long essay. Is super passive aggressive when grading. Gives videos for how to give substantive feedback but then says that your comment shouldn't give the students a lesson. Over 20, weekly articles, hour long podcasts, documentaries, and 80+ page slide show lectures.
Omg worst class ever. Extremely tough grader. No late work is accepted and everything due at 9am. At the end of the quarter she assigns this long paper which is 4000 words with an insane amount of reading such as a 10,000 word articles and overall crazy. Avoid this class if you can.
Everyone who says this teacher is harsh or this class is hard is clearly just not putting in the effort. There was two in person classes a week for this quarter and one weekly assignment with a big paper at the end of the quarter. Weekly assignments typically take a few hours for me and then a test every other week which if you study for is easy.
