She's seriously the most adorable, animated professor I've seen. You'd think 50 minutes of straight lecture on parts of the brain would be hell, but she honestly keeps you so entertained. She's really fair and genuinely wants everyone to do well. Take her class!

Class is inconsistent. Lectures are very elementary (for the few that actually show up), yet the tests are very tricky. You need to read the book, study her lectures, and listen to her to succeed. Also, she has a bad habit of referring students to the Teaching Assistants. But Dr. Alvarez as a person is very bubbly and seems to never be angry.

All she grades on are tests, and they are tricky. The questions are phrased pretty awkwardly. Even knowing and being able to recite everything from lecture sometimes isn't enough to get an A on her tests. Despite that, she offers extra credit and is a very niec woman. Makes lecture about as interesting as learning about parts of the brain can be.

Only Grades on 3 Tests and Final. Tests are HARD. Finds the most abstract way to ask questions that are completely different than lecture slides. Slides on blackboard but all relevant-to-test information is blank for obsessive students to fill in on their own time. Way too hard grading for a 101. AVG pre final is 65, a D. very energetic and nice

Testing & measures is a boring class, but she knows it and tries to make it as fun as possible. The tests are REALLY specific, so you have to study a lot for them, but the weekly discussion sessions help boost your grade. If you have the time for a fair amount of memorization, it's an easy class.

Lots of information, but Dr. Alvarez always made the lectures interesting and engaging. Exams were 75% of the grade but we had study guides and review sessions, so as long as you pay attention in class and studied before the exam, you should be fine. 25% were discussion posts. Also super responsive to emails!

She constantly tries to show her knowledge off and it's weird and condescending. Just don't speak to her and you'll be fine. Her testing&measure tests are legit impossible I genuinely don't understand how people got A's. She will ask the TINIEST details. The tests are HARD. If you can skip this class, I would, if not, just study a looot.

Skip class? You won't pass.

One time she actually sent her class an email about how long it took her to grade tests she had allocated specific time to grade. This was in graduate school. Worst professor I ever had at Tulane. She runs the accelerated masters program so there's no way around having to deal with her. Not very flexible, needs things to be done only her way.

She is absolutely insane!!! She tried to instigate a fight with me over email, when I was just asking her about a technical problem I was having with the Wiley textbook website. She called me horrible names, and then gaslit me; its so ironic that shes the one teaching psych lmao.

She is very nice and approachable. always willing to help. Her class is only hard if you don't keep up with the lectures since she gives out PowerPoints with missing words. As long as you do that, you'll be fine. There is homework but not a lot and it counts for a good bit of the grade. Tests aren't too hard.

I really enjoyed Dr. Alvarez's class. However, she can be really rude and cruel sometimes, although I did enjoy her class. I was extremely disappointed in her demeanor. The material itself is extremely interesting and I would highly recommend it to people who are interested in the public health field or health psychology.

I love prof Alvarez. Picture Caroline Forbes with a PhD. Her syllabus will literally answer all of your questions. My only complaint is that she posts her slides with blanks in them so you definitely have to go to class. This class is basically a public health class with a mix of neuro. Its an easy class and the only assignments are discussions

She thinks that anything other than her way of thinking or doing things is wrong and won't get you anywhere. She takes no responsibility and is SO condescending to her students. The class is super interesting which is a shame because she is ruining it. Tests arent bad, but she just tests on specifics rather than important info or understanding.

Lectures are too fast, tests on the TINIEST details unrelated to content, grades come from tests + one paper, she's rude to students who ask questions. Content isn't hard but there is a lot. Each chapter should have its own exam but instead she crams 5 chapters into one. Really stressful lectures but she does provide fill in the blanks which is ok.

She rushed through lectures if SHE is running late and gives students no time to ask any questions. If things aren't done her way, she is not able to understand it. She sends passive aggressive messages about only responding to emails that are sent in a formal format during business hours. I have no idea why she has such good reviews

Dr. Alvarez is an amazing professor who wants students to succeed in her courses. She offers many resources to prepare for exams and even recommends specific methods to study. I think this has been my most informative course in the psychology department at Tulane, I wish there were more courses taught by Dr. Alvarez.

Prof. is very kind & passionate about teaching & psychology. Your entire grade is based on 3 exams and 1 paper. Attendance is mandatory in order to complete the notes, but lectures aren't terrible. You do kind of have to teach yourself the material but once you find what works to learn the content, exams are okay (from a bad test taker).

This was one of the worst classes I've taken at Tulane (as a junior). It was unnecessarily difficult for a simple psyc elective and the professor had this weird mix of over-enthusiasm for the material while still being entirely inaccessible and rude to students. This may as well have been the TA's class.

Dr. Alvarez is very passionate about what she does, and she tries to make boring lectures better. Show up to every class to get all the notes. You really kind of have to teach yourself everything. Graded only by exams and a short paper, exams are straightforward and your lowest exam score gets dropped if you take the optional final.

She is very organized and sticks to what the syllabus says. She is very lecture-heavy and covers a chapter per class, which is my only complaint. Her tests covered whatever was on her slides, including statistics, so don't overlook them when studying.
