Class is tough, but Dr. Donnelly does everything to help you pass. She learns names in lecture, which I found impressive :) Helpful in office hours, exams are small part of grade w/ group component, and understanding about redoing stuff if your grade's in trouble. In-class assignments are big, so don't skip. Wait to get textbook for free online.
You have absolutely no reason to fail this class with this professor. She gives you practice exams, online assignments, reading quizzes, and assignments in class to help with your grade. Make sure you show up to class and be ready to pay attention and learn and you will PASS! I am thankful for this caring professor.
Dr. Donnelly is amazing I loved her so much. She really allowed me to learn and was very caring about our grades and knowledge. It was great to take her class because she did take into consideration feedback from the students. Homework and assignments weighed a lot so don't skip or leave anything to do last minute. Take your time with everything.
Donnelly is really one of the nicer professors here at UCF. She wants to ensure your success in the class, and will even ask if there is anything she can do to help you. All of her lectures and exams were based around Learning Catalytics when I took it. 5 exams + ACS, lowest exam grade dropped. It is important that you use the textbook.
Does not use powerpoints or slides to teach. She uses OneNote and takes handwritten notes that are almost impossible to review since you have no remembrance of what she was saying when she was writing down notes, leaving you to decipher everything she writes post-lecture. Grading only includes iclicker and tests. Horrible grading.
Dr Donnelly is a great person and caring professor. Unfortunately sweet professors don't always make for great professors. She uses OneNote to take notes in class, using up class time and making it nearly impossible to study off of her notes later if you don't remember what she said in class. Notes don't sync to your computer for days after class.
Professor Donnelly is probably one of the best professors at UCF. I wish I could have her for all my chemistry classes moving on forward. She truly cares for her students and wants you to succeed. Her notes are amazing and really help with learning the material. Yes the tests might be difficult, only if you do not study. You get what you put in.
One of the best professors! Chemistry in itself is a hard subject, but she is so sweet, cares a lot about her students and wants them to doing their best. Lectures are very helpful, but don't rely in them to passing the tests. Read the book and do the practice problems. Participation also takes you a long way, so ask questions!
Donnelly has grading ranges that do not change but is a wonderful professor. Exam 1-5, lowest grade dropped. Final is 1 hour ACS exam. iClicker needed. PRACTICE PROBLEMS (math and conceptual)! She did not teach all the material so I wish she curved the final grade during the pandemic.
She really is, to be frank, one of the nicest teachers/professors I have had in all of high school and the last three years of college. She's witty and humorous, trying hard to make sure you don't feel overwhelmed mentally. While she could improve with adding some grade fillers, as you are only graded on tests and clickers she's overall great!
Took the online class. Very disorganized and trust me when I say the quizzes and tests are exactly nothing like the chapters youre forced to read. Grades werent viewable because they were inaccurate so I dont even know what I have in the class. 20 question tests, 6 fill in the blank/no partial credit. Youve been warned.
Most disorganized online class I've ever taken. The grades were muted, there was a quiz added towards the end of the class that wasn't even on the syllabus. Questions from tests/quizzes are not similar to material given to study from, and inappropriately hard due to the online format. Awkward nonsensical fill in the blank questions. Avoid.
This class was harder than Immunology. It was a very disorganized online course and the professor took forever to respond to emails. Relies on youtube videos to teach and is not helpful overall. Tests are hard and quizzes are overwhelming. No curve.
Most unorganized class I've ever taken. Something was always wrong every week since the semester started & we are 2 weeks away from finishing the semester and there are still issues. You only have 1 day to take exam and quiz. She does not care what is going on in your personal life. I've taken science classes online and this was by far the worst.
worst class ive taken at UCF terrible avoid if you can, the class was so disorgnized and hectic and even during a pandemic they were not caring or forgiving. Exams were open book but way harder you dont even have time to look and you have 3 short answer and 3 math problems. Professors dont know what they r doing or how to handle course. DONT TAKE.
By far the hardest class ive ever taken at the university. The online format makes it hard to focus and is unorganized. Does not lecture at all so get used to the textbook being your professor. Whenever we have a concern about the course/our grades, she does not address it. I never had a professor that does not care about their students until now.
Took this class online over the summer. Get ready to teach yourself, but the videos in the textbook are helpful. She doesnt address many issues and our grades arent visible so Im not sure what I have.
It already is hard enough taking courses online with the situation we are in right now and she wasnt caring or forgiving at all. This class overall was unorganized and a chaotic mess! even though it was open book, you were basically on your own for learning the material and I dont think their videos helped at all. Avoid this class if you can.
By far one of the hardest classes I've ever taken and having it online this semester made it even worse. You have to teach yourself since homework assignments and office hours aren't really helpful. The whole class was very unorganized and stressful. If you can take this class in person, do it. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
I took this online, Summer C, and it is tough. Dr. Donnelly is friendly and easy to listen to. Class has lots of 5 question quizzes, and 4 exams, Each question has a high point value so there's no room for error. I think Dr. Donnelly is quite forgiving unless you give her a reason not to, if you email her your work, she might give partial credit.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. Even during a pandemic, she makes a hard class way harder. She doesn't give any powerpoints. She basically gives you a book and then puts videos in for you to "understand the material" (and only 1 or 2 are her own videos). She's nice, but I'd rather have a good professor over a nice one.
Things were a nightmare at first. BUT she has really listened to our feedback and all the exams are open note and open book, but honorlock is used. You will have to teach yourself using the textbook, however she does tell you exactly what topics from the book will be on the exam. do not listen to old reviews she adjusted to our complaints very well
You have to teach yourself all the material in this class, all you are given are the chapters and a few videos and the rest is for you to learn. Her tests are on Honorlock which is the worst thing ever, wouldn't recommend her as a professor if you're actually trying to learn.
Nice professor however pchm is hard. Tests were difficult however, she let us take it as a group afterward. She gives us a study guide with topics on the test. Test are all questions made by her, open note and open book. Lecture is "optional", as there is an attendance and homework grade. Lecture is engaging and best time to ask any questions.
Donnelly is honestly one of the best profs I've had. She cares whether or not her students pass and will do anything she can to ensure you pass. Her lectures are entertaining and the only reason my grade was low is because of personal stuff. She will really try working with the class to help us all pass. I loved her class and her as a person!
Really cares about the students and always willing to help us, truly one of the best professors Ive had this semester. Pchm was easier thanks to her. Also, her GTA does class on Fridays for chapter problems which is extremely helpful.
This was an online format class so it was all self-teaching. Reading the textbook was very painful but I scored very high As on all tests. Her tests are very easy if you study. She's very nice if you email her and listens to feedback. Tests are very generous with time and open-book. Go to SI tutoring for practice questions that mirror the test.
No curving or extra credit, 100% recommend the SI and LA sessions they were a big part of passing the tests, make sure to read the textbook and go over the self assessment quizzes. Grades are made up mostly of tests + learning activities.
Dr. Donnelly is very caring and understanding of current circumstances, and she listens to student feedback. She encourages us to focus on the learning process, paying attention more to why things work rather than plug'n'chug type questions. Open book, open note exams, but they still manage to be challenging in a fair way. Overall phenomenal prof.
No extra credit. Go to SI for help; the LAs weren't very helpful. Be ready to devote at least 2 or 3 hours a day to the class. It requires a lot of reading to understand the material, and the videos aren't much help. Tests were open-book and open-notes, though.
READ THE BOOK! That's all I did along with the DSM, book questions, and I did go to the SI review sessions before the exams. That's literally all I did. She was extremely sweet and gave us open book and notes also for the exams. She also provides a study guide for each exam. She usually takes less than a day to respond to emails which is amazing!
I will be honest, there were times where Prof. Donnelly would include questions that couldn't be found anywhere, but I passed with a 97.5%. Its Chem 2, you're gonna have to work hard to get an A. I will say this though, the exams were RIDICULOUSLY easy though. She is really lenient with the questions for chem 2 standards, could've been far worse.
Hated this class. She makes it difficult for no reason. Ive met other chemistry professors that simplify what you need to know for success. This is only my 3rd week in this class and I feel that its taking up all my hours. Choose a different professor if you can!
Dr. Donnelly means well but is not the best teacher through zoom. You pretty much have to teach yourself the content by reading the textbook and doing practice problems she provides. However, her exams are open note. If you study hard enough, attend tutoring, and stay on top of things you will be fine.
She is very nice and understanding. There were not many grades, so your tests are critical to do well on. (lowest Test grade will be dropped). Tests are open book. You will have a lot of practice, but I still find a few things on the test I missed. The book is useful and necessary. Class is not easy, but she makes it much less difficult.
She is the worst! Pick a different professor if you can!! Anyone else is better. She is very inconsiderate and demeaning. Lectures are useless and you have to teach yourself everything. Test are open book, but she makes the test way harder than the face to be. She doesnt care about students passing or failing and will not help you out. Dont take!
Took her during Spring '21 semester. Lectures were mandatory, but really only went over a few problems. Doesn't give notes, expects you to get everything from the textbook. Wasn't a fan.
I can say that she figured out how to make a stressful class less stressful. She is very obvious on what she expects you to know for the exams, if you pay attention you shouldn't have much trouble. Having the actual book instead of the online book helped when exams were open book, and she even has pre-test meditation, which helps w test anxiety
Cannot recommend Dr. Donnelly enough! She's a great teacher who cares about her students and wants them to pass. Her class is laid out in a way where you get participation points either by attending the zooms or doing extra assignments (or a combination of the 2), which makes it flexible. Tests are open book. I'll be taking her again for Chem 2 :)
Do NOT take Dr. Donnelly if you can avoid it. She does not lecture, and zooms barely help. You are completely on your own. Grade is all exams and even though they are open book, they were often extremely challenging and unrelated. Save yourself the headache and hours of rereading the textbook and pick a professor that actually cares about students.
Everyone I see here giving Dr. Donnelly a low score obviously doesn't understand that science courses are going to require some self-teaching and discipline. Dr. Donnelly makes this class SUPER flexible and the exams are much like the questions she recommends us look over and OPEN BOOK. She doesnt hand you a grade, but its a great class
Dr. Donnelly structures this class to help students learn actively and thoroughly. Although this course requires students to put in effort to learn the material instead of passively recieving information, this approach helps with developing good study skills for harder future classes. The tests are easy once you put in the work. Highly recommend!
I really do not understand the negative reviews for Dr Donnelly. She has lectures you watch on your own time which simplify everything you need to know and gives you practice problems and explanations and test reviews during lecture time. The exams are pretty straight forward- she even reuses questions for the final. Best professor yet.
Prof. Donnelly is one of the better Chem teachers at UCF. She actually cares for her students and is helpful. Lectures are NOT required however, they are a good way to get your learning activities out of the way for each chapter. Science courses are of course harder so as long as you are doing the work and reading the chapters you can get an A.
This was BY FAR the best professor I've had at my time dual enrolling at UCF. Dr. Donnelly teaches via Zoom in a very engaging way and most of the problems she goes over in her Zoom are useful for the tests. She was understanding when I misunderstood the participation point system at the end of the semester which is extremely rare for a professor.
Great prof. She makes it so that you have to actually learn the material which I need and appreciate. Yes there are tests almost every 3 1/2 weeks but they're open note and she gives 80 mins for 20 ques w respondus. If you're looking to actually understand chem before you move on, I recommend. I promise reading the book will SERIOUSLY help you.
I ended up having to use the book to get through most of the class. She is very caring and flexible, especially when it comes to late work. I had bombed the final and went from an 82 to a 78 and she rounded me up to a B without me even asking. I didn't find the zooms particularly helpful. her lectures were very helpful in combination with the book
Professor Donnelly is a very direct and concise communicator, and I believe her teaching style would be better suited for in person classes. She would host 2 lectures a week and she would not explain the topics of the chapter in those lectures, ever. Going to class was a waste of time because all the material was in videos and was very tedious.
Dr. Donnelly is one of the better prof compared to other chem profs. The class is hard and you have to utilize every resource in order to get an A. I wish she actually taught during her lectures. I had to read the book and watch her videos. No extra credit. Final was cumulative. She's really nice and cares for her students but you teach yourself.
Her class is hard. Only passed by using the textbook. But honestly, Professor Donnelly is the most caring professor I could ever imagine. She responds to all emails quick, has long office hours, lets you use textbook on exam, let students make up homework assignments, changed exam times based on time zones if needed. You definitely won't regret it!
Dr. Donnelly is decent, you are however mostly on your own in terms of learning. She is nice but you wont pass this class on her lectures alone. Read the textbook and do all the practice problems you can. Grade is based on 4 exams, she includes other assignments but those will raise ur grade .8 so not worth it. Try to find a different professor
Dr. Donnelly is one of the most understanding and kind professors I have had during my years of college. My flight was cancelled right before an exam and she allowed me to make the exam up the following week without asking for justification or simply saying "this can be your dropped exam." She wants to make sure you learn the material and succeed.
She was a pretty average professor. Quizzes and tests were basically based on everything that was covered in the textbook, so if you read the chapters, you'll most likely pass the class.
Took the class online and during the summer, so it was going to be more difficult than usual. To pass you really need to read and understand the textbook, as well as do the practice problems, both mathematical and conceptual! Most of her exams are concept heavy with some math, make sure you really understand concepts! SI sessions also helped.
Dr. Donnelly is a solid choice for a professor. I struggled but I blame that on taking it in the summer which rushes things and on burnout in general. Her lectures aren't great, but she really cares about her students. Textbook is absolutely necessary. Weekly quizzes that you get 2 attempts on. About 2 chapters per test and the final is cumulative.
I took this course during the summer and online and Donnelly was one of the best professors. All exams are open book and as long as you put time into the course you should be fine. I was barely studying got C's then I worked harder and started getting A's. Got an A on the final which got me to an A overall. Open book doesnt mean easy.
With Chem already being a hard class, Dr. Donnelly did not make it any easier. You have to teach yourself the majority of the information via reading the textbook (if you don't read the book, there is absolutely no way to pass this class). I am an A student... this is my first C. So, I think that says a lot about the class and professor.
This class was so freaking hard. Chem 2 already is tough, but Professor Donnelly does help make it easier. Be sure to do your assignments to boost your grade, and know your way around the textbook for the exams.
Zoom doesn't help, book does. Study the book like your life depends on it, and take notes while you read it. 5 exams + 10 quizzes dropped lowest, no homework but 10 discussions in which 5 count. what helped me are only book and quizzes. The prof is nice, reminded us every week of what is due, but you really need to work for a nice A/B>>BOOK MATTERS
Probably the most average teacher ever. You need to read the book, as that's where you'll learn the most. She does some complimentary videos but more than likely it won't be enough. She allows you to use the online book on tests which helps a ton if you remember what each section was about.
This professor, though fun to be around, is the worst I've encountered in a long time. She uses a "flipped classroom," in which you essentially teach yourself everything. There are no powerpoints or lectures, you can only learn through reading the textbook directly. 2/3s of the class failed the exam (worth 64%) and she still will not teach.
Donnelly is flat out not a good professor. She uses the "flipped classroom" idea, which basically means you teach yourself the entire course through the textbook. After having her for consecutive semesters (Spring '21 and Fall '21, not by choice) I've truly realized how awful she is, and sadly it's taken a toll on me.
Overall, I think she is better than other chem professors at UCF. You get a cheat sheet for the exam to put formulas and notes, that really helps alot. Just read the book & make sure to do practice problems. She wants you to understand the problems, not just know how to solve it. I used outside tutoring to help me understand concepts
Professor Donnelly is a nice lady. However, be prepare to READ and SELF TEACH yourself for everything. ALL she does is discussion and learning catalytics. Her discussions are boring and she DOES NOT LECTURE AT ALL. You will need to read everything yourself and learning phase is very fast. Hard hard hard.
Prof. Donnelly uses a "flipped classroom" mode, which is fine in smaller classes, but absolutely useless in a lecture hall. What this means to you is a mandatory textbook as this course will be entirely-self taught. To succeed you must chose between zoom meetings w/ condescending TAs or hours of textbook chapters, as you won't have time for both.
I'm debating emailing UCF myself so I can get a paycheck... This was PURELY self taught. She explains nothing at all, you have to read the book, which isn't that bad in my opinion as that's all my major has been so far, except the chapters are so thick to the point that this class ALONE will burn you out. Do yourself a favor and take chem elsewhere
Sweet lady and her exams are very doable. She uses a "flipped classroom" approach so she DOES NOT LECTURE. If you are not comfortable with teaching yourself 100% of the material from the textbook, find someone else. However, self-learning is a skill that's useful in college so this is a good course to figure that out. Assessments are very simple.
I have mixed feelings about her. She seems like a really nice person and she is very knowledgeable about chemistry. However, this class is 100% self-taught. She will not lecture at any point in the course, regardless of us basically begging her. You MUST have the textbook to be successful and be prepared to spend a good amount of time studying.
I agree with what a lot of other people have said on here about teaching yourself everything. I would also like to add that instead of using the week before finals for review, she is having us take an exam on class material which is very annoying. There are definitely worse profs but this class made me feel so burnt out and chem is my major lol
I went into this class thinking I was going to last because I am somewhat decent at chemistry. But she does not teach at all. She does a "flipped classroom," which does not work. She does not help in lecture and I would avoid taking her if you can't teach yourself. Reading the book and doing the EOC questions will get you where you need to be.
The only reason I received an A in this class is because I was really good at using the textbook to teach myself. I went to lectures but only to get the participation points. She tests on everything in the book so if you read that, really understand the material and take notes, PLUS have a good cheat sheet you will be just fine.
Chem II is a hard class, but she provides enough resources and extra help. It is a flipped-classroom setup so it is very dependent on the textbook. It is test heavy and very fast paced. However, she genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed.
This professor honest has to be one of the worst I've taken at UCF so far. I am a chem major, and she has honestly made me want to switch my major. Never teaches, so get ready to use your textbook for everything. Your grade in the class is whatever you score on exams, which happen to be very difficult. Good luck. 1000/10 would not take again.
General rule of thumb is: if the professor hides the class average on exams the class is doing poorly, which is exactly the case here. Class is test heavy, and the test are difficult. Worse of all, final is a national standardized test where the AVERAGE is a 35% and she doesn't curve at all. A freaking 35% average and no curve...
Professor Donnelly is a very nice professor, she has a clear grading criteria and always answers questions/sends out notifications. Reading the textbook and doing many practice problems is important to pass this course. There are five exams, one ACS exam, and a quiz at the end of every unit. Class attendance is required (in-person or via Zoom).
Chem 2 is extremely hard no matter who you take. Dr. Donnelly teaches very well- her lectures are pre recorded and you watch at home and go to class and practice problems and ask questions. Everyone who says she can't teach most likely did not watch the lectures. You get participation grades for going to class- only need to go 15 times.
Does a weird "reverse classroom" setting where you have to teach yourself at home and only go over problems in class. This might work for some people if you're an independent learner, but I know that most people actually need to have their professor teach to learn. Chm 2 is already a hard enough course and I don't think her not doing her job helps.
Idk why some people are saying she didn't curve-- it was the first sem that she had to give the ACS final exam and she curved A LOT. If you do take her, watch the vids in modules, practice & try to go to class. No hw, attendance is optional, short quiz every chapter, 5 exams + final. She's very accessible and caring, you just have to put in work
would never take again
Dr. Donnelly is very knowledgeable about chemistry and it shows. Coming from someone who got a C in CHM 1, this course was much better. You are allowed a cheat sheet on exams. Read the textbook, watch the key concept videos, put example problems on your cheat sheet, and you will do fine. Also, he curved our final 40%! I highly recommend.
She doesn't believe in teaching. Chemistry is already a hard subject. She does this thing called a reverse classroom. That means that we as the "students" have to teach ourselves everything and when we come to class she just does chem problems. I would actually consider any other professor first. I actually considered going for a different career.
Read the book, lectures are more of a review and videos she has don't go very indepth. 5 tests worth 16% each (drops one) and final worth 16. Doesnt curve tests or give extra credit. You get a piece of paper to write notes and such for each test. She did curve final a lot but we did very bad. She seemed nice and willing to help but idk for sure.
She uses a flipped-classroom method meaning you are responsible for reading/learning the material before coming to lecture. In class, she reviews the concepts and puts them into practice via ex. problems. Attendance is graded by participation. You can attend in-person or via Zoom. Chemistry isnt an easy subject. You will have to put in the time.
Good teacher, but uses flipped classroom approach to teach so you are teaching yourself. Read the textbook and study for the test and you will do well. Curved the final by 40 points.
Makes you work hard for your grade. The textbook will be your best friend. Dr. Donnelly gets hated on a bit because she does not teach much as you will have to teach yourself but still a helpful teacher. Just be ready to read and watch out for the ACS at the end of the semester.
Every class felt like i was taking a theory class. She would spend 1 hour to derive a law and all of us were like ok????? but I don't think vie never met a professor who loves their job then her. I think her teach styles could use work. Test were ok ( no HW 6 test). You should show up to class because her notes are awful so you need to be there
One of the lesser professors Ive taken. Very sweet lady and does enjoy teaching but does not help you much in a sense of trying to pass. Struggled heavily with this class and passed chem 1 with a B. Wouldnt take her again. Completely need to dedicate yourself to this class so doesnt work if youre taking other hard classes.
I took Dr. Donnelly in-person/online due to COVID. She has a flipped-classroom approach where you were required to read the textbook at home, and you would work on questions in-class. She gives a quiz for each chapter with 2 attempts and 5 exams plus a final. She does not curve the exams except for the final. If you work hard, you will pass!
This is my second time taking Dr. Donnelly's class (I took her for CHM2041 too). She is kind, caring and really passionate. Not everyone loves her teaching style, and personally I think the flipped classroom isn't the best for the class size we operate at, it's not impossible, or --that-- bad by any means. Don't listen to the complainers on here
She used a flip classroom design where you basically read the information before class and solve questions during class. In other words, you had to learn most of the info on your own. It is graded on 5 exams + final + ch quizzes. The lowest exam (not the final) and quiz are dropped. She responds to emails pretty quickly.
Dr. Donnelly is great, she is clear when explaining things in lecture, she posts videos of her explaining too. She uses a flipped classroom dynamic which can be bad for some people that like going to lecture, but I think that the videos she posts are useful to understand whats going on in class. also very fast-paced!
Not to be disrespectful, but the comments on here is a lie. An individual can be passion on what they do, but it doesn't mean a person can teach. She uses Youtube videos, and we have to teach ourselves. which WHY is she there. WORST!!! professor of chemistry. she doesn't teach AT ALLL!! so be prepare, to spend hours being a chemistry teacher. YW!!
Her lectures were awful. If you want to have any chance of doing well in this course, YouTube will be your best friend, but her tests are also very difficult. I took it over summer and I do not recommend, especially if you're taking a full course load because it was definitely overwhelming, and I didn't feel like I could give it enough of my time.
This professor will NOT teach you. You think Chem 2 is hard already? Get ready to spend 100% of your time on this class. I have taken her twice and did not come CLOSE to passing (even the second time). Uses "clap if you can hear me" like we are children.
I do not usually write reviews for professors, but Dr. Donnelly changed my outlook on chemistry. General chem was never my best subject; however, after expressing this to Dr. Donnelly she gave me a lot of tips on how to improve even with it being a flipped classroom. She is probably the most caring chemistry professor you will find.
Class is self taught with quizzes & practice during lecture time. Material can be difficult but if you put forward the effort & attend TA reviews you'll be fine. You get a 1 page cheatsheet for all quizzes/exams which should allow for an easy pass if you are smart with it. Dr Donnelly is very caring but her teaching style is not for everyone.
She uses a flipped-classroom method where she doesn't teach content in class and we have to take notes from the textbook. Lectures are either quizzes or reviews of math concepts. 5 exams online (HonorLock), one is dropped; 1 cheat sheet can be used. Final exam in-person is curved heavily. Read the textbook and take notes for extra credit (DO THIS)!
She was very caring and always there to help, but she uses the flipped classroom method which relies on you learning all the concepts before you come to class. The class is very doable, but you have to put in the work
It's clear she knows what she's talking about, but the flipped classroom method basically means you're teaching yourself. At least in my class, you're also placed in groups and have to take a quiz once a week, in which you must show up to class to participate in, or you receive a zero. Her class wasn't particularly difficult, study out of class.
I really enjoyed Professor Donnelly. She always tried her best to make sure everyone had a good grasp of the content. I actually found that I preferred the team based learning over traditional lectures. Chemistry is a difficult class but professor Donnelly provides a lot of resources to help you succeed.
Chemistry is a difficult class in general. Professor Donnelly really tries to accommodate for her students and gives good lesson plans to help them succeed. As long as you take the time to work on the material you will do fine. She allows students to have a full paper of notes for every quiz and exam too.
Donnelly is honestly a really good professor that cares about her students, and while the class is challenging, she makes it doable regardless. I have an A in the class right now and think I'll end the semester with an A, but if you need lectures and aren't a fan of the flipped classroom approach I wouldn't necessarily recommend her.
You have to prepare before class watching her lecture videos and taking notes from the book. Attendance is mandatory on quiz days. You are allowed a cheat sheet for exams, the exams are short but hard.
RUN! Do not take Donnelly. There is a quiz individually and then with a group every Tuesday based on information you teach yourself. The exams are extremely difficult although you are allowed a cheat sheet. I have never gotten below a B in any course besides this one. Awful professor. Refuses any sort of extra credit even if students are trying.
This is my 2 time taking this class w her. first time I dropped it cause I didn't have good access to the internet for exams and I didn't like her flipped classroom. Still don't, her classes are way too big with a really difficult subject to teach yourself, in my opinion, to use it. Don't take w other heavy classes & study hard, and you might pass!
While I do think she's a nice person, I did not like how she taught this class. On the first day of class, you're assigned seats with a group with which you'll do weekly quizzes. The tests are heavily math based, which often made me run out of time on exams. The study guides are vague, but with a lot of studying and practice, you can do well.
She knows what she is talking about but it is a little hard to learn from her. Her class is doing quizzes with teams that she puts you in and then the following class is her teaching what she quizzed you in. If I didn't have my team, I wouldn't have passed.
5 question conceptual quizzes every week that you take first individually then with a team. You'll have to study the material before she teaches it. You'll do good if you watch her videos and read the textbook. Exams weren't hard if you follow the study guide and are similar to quizzes. She gave lots of extra credit and was a really nice professor.
This class is based on exams, four midterms, and a cumulative final. She teaches the class in a flipped mode with videos outside of class, in-class work on a few practice problems, and takes a quiz every week. Midterms are not based on what is in the videos and the "study guides" given are just objective topics from the textbook. No extra credit.
She does give x credit throughout the semester. Her class is atypical, you do have to look at the material before class. She makes it easy w her own videos and practice problems. She is very knowledgeable and kind and if you put in the work you will be alright. Dont let this class take you down! Chem 2 is difficult and shes one of the better profs
Make sure you are a student who knows how to teach themselves material. Dr. Donnelly is very sweet but a bit frazzled and chaotic. SI sessions are super helpful. Material isn't super difficult but does require time to master. Class is team based. Study Guides are given for exams. Be aware of exam 3, previously not similar to study guide.
Don't take this lady if you want any sympathy. She doesn't teach and makes us do practice problems in assigned groups while she walks around the room. Doesn't lecture and only damn grades in the gradebook are exams and quizzes which basically fail you if you do bad on even one of them. No homework but that makes tests weigh more. Not good.
She is nice as a person but as a teacher............ She uses a flip classroom model which I did not like at all. There were days when we would sit there and just do group work or work on our own when I felt she should be teaching us instead. Not a fan of the teaching style. Grades are also test-heavy so rely on sarc and SI.
Be prepared to teach yourself and READ. You're expected to have read everything in the textbook before it appears in class. Everything in class is group work and she doesn't teach. Class is graded by quizzes for each unit and 4 exams plus a final. Not much room to do poorly on anything and no extra credit.
Really caring professor. Does a lot of team-based learning. You will have to read the textbook as that's where most of the test questions come from, but she allows a cheat sheet on quizzes and you get to work with a group. Gives extra credit throughout the semester. Just show up to class prepared and you'll be fine.
Super kind person, but class is very difficult despite it not having to be. The flipped classroom structure means you basically need to teach yourself everything. Your entire grade is dependent on very difficult exams that are hard to study for. You do lots of group quizzes, which are nice. Prepare for exams weeks ahead of time and attend tutoring.
This prof is simply amazing. She really cares for the class and will help you if you ask. She teaches well and her lectures/assignments really prepare you for the exams. She does a flipped classroom but when it comes to any chem class, it's smart to do it that way. Do the hw, in-class work, and quizzes, they are usually on her exams.
If Chemistry is not your strong suit please refrain from taking this prof. While Chem 2 is not an easy course her class is test heavy, her lectures are mainly just her doing example problems and walking around. She offers extra credit but the material is still difficult to understand. I DO NOT RECCOMEND HER. (take dixon)
She's a kind professor, but her class is just awful. She over complicates the subject and her exam questions don't really match what she suggests to study through the back of the textbook question problems or even her lecture videos. Her class is extremely test heavy with only 20 questions to a test, making it extremely hard to do well or pass.
Dr. Donnelly is a very sweet lady. IMO her class was way more difficult than it needed to be. The flip style classroom was not for me. I feel as though that chemistry is too complex of a subject to be teaching yourself. Her exams were very difficult. I spent hours studying for them and still averaged a 65. She did give out extra credit which helped
The class itself is pretty difficult. Definitely reading the textbook and paying attention in class is important because a lot of the test questions are conceptual. Overall I think Dr. Donnelly was a good professor who is really passionate about what she teaches and wants her students to do well. I got a C but it was my fault for procrastinating.
If chemistry is not your strong suit this prof. may not be for you. I was hanging on my a thread averaging a 60 for the class until the final. This prof. does give extra credit but the exams are hard and you are basically teaching yourself with the textbook. I did not find her lecture useful and her video explanations are very short.
It is a flipped classroom which was hard in the beginning but you the hang of it as the semester goes on.She gives you a lot to study for the exams like the practice problems, a past exam, and her notes are good. I can't stress enough on how helpful SI and SARC is for this class, I think those two resources are the reason why I got an A.
This class is tough. You will need to teach yourself everything and spend hours studying. Tests are worth a lot with only 20 questions. Reverse classroom and quizzes on specific days, they are graded. Attendance matters. Sometimes extra credit is provided. Professor responds to emails fast if you have questions.
The flipped class model might be questionable to some, but it is something capable of getting you to where you need to be in her course. While the attendance is mandatory, she does a good job of keeping the class engaged on required lecture days. Just make sure to always attend review/SI sessions no matter how much you feel like you don't need.
Get ready to read A-lot of people mentioning you must go to SI and SARC obviously not everyone has time for that especially if you work. Prof gives extra credit but the exams are difficult and she provides videos that are short and only cover a certain amount of material. Make sure you read the textbook.
Dr. Donnelly is a very caring professor. The textbook is not helpful. The SARC sessions helped me a lot. The tests are hard, having only 20 questions. Go to the SARC sessions and watch her recorded lectures. Test 3 is the hardest. A lot of extra credit, a 5 percent bump on every exam. Extra credit is offered during the days with no RATS.
Don't take this professor! Information isn't clearly detailed when studying for exams and many times there is information not thoroughly (or not at all) taught on the exams. The reverse teaching is horrible and requires you to teach yourself and waste time on something that could overwise be done in lecture.
Flipped classroom mode which I don't like. She makes the exams harder than it needs to be and the make up the vast majority of your grade. The class is manageable if you use outside resources (Chad's Prep and The Organic Chemistry Tutor) but her lectures are very surface level compared to her exam. I would avoid taking her if you can.
Do not take her by any means. Her reverse classroom setting does not work since her lectures do not cover most of the material on the exams. Most of the grade is made up of exams with a small portion being in class assignments being only 5 questions. I was always good at chem until her class, where I failed the first exam. Spent most time with SARC
Professor Donnelly is very kind and seems to care about her students. However, her class is much more difficult than should be. You will have to teach yourself almost everything as her "lecture" videos don't cover much of the content. Exams are only 20 questions, no partial credit is given and they are graded extremely harshly.
I LOVEEEE DR. DONNELLY FOR PCHEM
Dr. Donnelly is really nice and genuinely cares about her students, but you gotta be ready to put in the work. Tests and RATs (quizzes) are your entire grade and she doesn't give any partial credit. I will say she gets grades in in like an hour but the exams are only 20 questions and if you get sig figs wrong you get no credit. Study a lot.
Basically buy the pearson textbook and do the examples shes a goated professor, super helpful just put some effort into the class
Dr. Donnelly is really great at explaining the material. She posts exam study guides that are very clear on what the exam is going to be about. I don't think you need to read the book that much to understand the content, her videos are very thorough and enough to get you a good grade on the exams. She's a great professor overall.
Professor Donnelly's class is tough, but the SARC sessions and unstuckstudy really helped me survive. Exams are harsh, so stay on top of the material and use all available resources.
Great professor. Her exams are definitely difficult, but chem 2 is a relatively difficult class with a lot of content. She provides all the resources to do well. SARC tutoring sessions are also very helpful. Keep up with the content and don't fall behind and you'll be fine.
It is important to know that Prof. Donnelly has a flipped classroom. Most learning is done independently but she provides short videos explaining conceptual topics. She is great at explaining and listening when students ask question. She also provides study guides specific to each exam with how many questions are covered by each topic.
This professor has been my favorite so far at UCF. While it may not work for everyone, I found her flipped classroom style to work very well for me. She breaks down each chapter into short, very well-explained videos. She also offers 5 points extra credit per exam. Her study guides are very helpful and correlate well to her exams.
She was very nice and a good professor. It was flipped classroom and we had a quiz pretty much every week. We had to read the textbook and watch her videos. She allowed cheat sheets on quizzes and gave EC on every exam. Exams were 20 questions so not much wiggle room to get questions wrong. Quizzes were individual then taken with a small group.
Flipped classroom, graded heavily on multiple choice exams (5) and 2 FINALS. Every other week there are quizzes (conceptual and multi choice) in which you work in a small team to complete. Although it is not required that you purchase the textbook i reccommend it, you will have to STUDY outside of the classroom to pass this class.
Dr. Donnelly is one of the best Chem professors I've ever had! Her class is definitely hard and is very test heavy but also very interesting and rewarding. We do individual and group quizzes on each chapter and tests on every two chapters or so. She is super nice and great to go to during office hours for clarification questions!!
I really enjoyed Dr. Donnelly's class. She uses a flipped classroom style. Grades are made up of quizzes taken in class about every week, 5 exams, and the final (two parts) I definitely recommend taking her class. I got a C in Chem 1 and got a B in this one. She helped me grow a lot in chemistry!
Dr.Donnelly flipped classroom isn't going to work for everyone. It is important for you to know that most of the actual learning you will have to do outside of the classroom using your textbook and although she does have short videos. She answers your questions in class and does some practice problems but don't expect her to do an actual lecture.
The professor, while being a very nice person, did not provide much in terms of teaching. Students would be put into groups where they essentially taught themselves and helped each other during quizzes; the provided notes were disorganized and lacked information; true teaching/assistance was provided by SARC tutoring and other outside sources.
She's a nice person, but her class is purely exam-based, with only three exams --- fail the first, and it's game over. She does IRATs and TRATs (mini quizzes), but they don't help your grade. You teach yourself the material, attend class for brief reviews or to ask questions via Slido, though she only answers a few due to time constraints.
Worst teacher ever. She does the flipped classroom method. I barely learned stuff. Chemistry should be taught by a teacher, not self-taught, in my opinion. Group work in class. Her tests didn't match up to her bad lecture videos. I had to get an outside tutor and spent more money. Ended up having to retake the class with different teacher.
She is the reason I am transferring from UCF
I didnt wear my seatbelt driving to school just hoping I wouldnt make it to her class
Please avoid this professor if possible. We practically have to teach ourselves. There are 4 exams which can be very difficult. Her lectures are extremely boring and not very helpful.
I really enjoyed her class, this class is set up as "flipped," but if you go to class she gives so many opportunities to ask questions, and she will explain things as much as you need. Attendance is only "mandatory" when there is a quiz. There is so much provided in this class, you just have to put in the effort to use the resources she provides.
i just wish there were more chem teachers so choose from.
Donnelly is super nice, make sure to read the textbook and come to her classes. You do have to put in some effort outside of class and come prepared, but she will make sure you succeed.
Class mandatory only for quiz days where you are placed into a group to complete the quiz. Only 4 exams and quizzes are in the gradebook, and I feel it is unfair to have a decent amount of your grade relying on having a good group. A fully "flipped" class mode which is extremely unhelpful when chemistry is a hard enough subject by itself.
Very sweet prof! Don't let the flipped class mode discourage you - prof was very good at answering questions and making clarifications. Study guides are posted for the exams and the final that are very accurate to what the actual exams looked like, making it easy to prepare for them.
If you struggle with flipped classrooms, even in the slightest, do not take her. I personally enjoy flipped classroom so her style of teaching worked for me. About once a week you come to class to take 2 quizzes based on the assigned chapter. One individual quiz, one team quiz (same exact quiz). Given study guides are almost exactly like the exam.
It's a flipped classroom, videos are pretty short, usually 3-6 to watch before class. Attendance is required on quiz(RAT) days, where you take the quiz by yourself, then take it with your team. You get to use a page of notes for these, and she goes over anonymous student questions beforehand. Very caring and understanding, and a fair grader.
She was alright. She knew what she was talking about and was open to any questions that students may have. If you use her study guides and practice exams to study for exams, you should be all good. I used her Pearson for practice problems which helped a ton. I would say I wish she did more practice problems in class, as she did a flipped classroom.
Dr. Donnelly was such an awesome professor and I didn't think I'd ever say that about a chem professor. Trust me, chem 2 is difficult but she made the concepts very easy to understand in her videos. I ended with an 85 in the class because the final was acs format and that messed me up so make sure to be prepared for that!
I personally just hate the “flipped classroom” method. Not worth going to class if you're behind a chapter. Most of the little quizzes she had didn't have questions that aligned to her exams when I took her, so I felt like I was constantly pulled in the wrong direction. Withdrew last sem and took a diff prof this one and got an A lol
She's honestly the sweetest and most caring professor at UCF. She genuinely cares about the teaching process and is invested in student success. Flipped classroom mode of learning, watch all the videos before class and take notes, reference the textbook as needed. Exams have a reasonable difficulty. Wish I could take her class again!
Chem 2 is hard but she is a good professor, she really cares about her students. It's flipped learning, but I do believe it is beneficial as long as you stay on top of it. The tests are hard, but there are plenty of resources to study from. The in-class RATs (quizzes) aren't horrible, but you do have to put in effort to prepare for them.
