Treats students like in elementary school. Talks to much about her kids.
Class was not very interesting.
Worthless class.
She is hot! A great teacher!
Very charasmatic; great teacher. But class is too easy compared to exams.
I know more about her kids than she does!
She's great - hard class, but prof it great.
Skims over material in class and expects in-depth answers on exams. Seems like more of a grade school teacher than college prof.
Professor Head is a wonderful teacher and I highly reccommend her. Her course is quite difficult but there is help out there. Go to lecture and practise what you learn.
Although I disliked her for A100, she is an Excellent teacher in A305. Fairly easy, very useful!
I wish I got quizzed on what sports her kids play and how much she hates her sister in law.
Very knowledgable and professional. Come to class and you'll learn a lot! Best prof at IU that I've had yet.
She is nice but too dingy. She always went off topic talking about her kids. To me the exam wasn't like anything she lectured about.
she is the most akward looking person i have ever seen. looking at her for 50 miutes made my head hurt.
really enthusiastic, the class isnt as hard as people make it out to be-- just keep up with the readings, thats all.
Ms. Head is a great professor who is interested in her students. Although the class is difficult, if you study and keep up with the work you will do fine.
She's a good teacher, compare to other teachers here at the school....I suggest you take her than the other ones
Everyone told me told me I was unlucky to have her, but she's lot better a professor and a lot nicer than people make her out to be. The key is keeping up with the reading, do that, and you're set
I mean...look at the material. She makes a boring class rather fun. In the upper 10% of the professors in IU.
The tests are weighted too much, and pretty tough as well. But otherwise she's a nice lady.
i think she's really funny, it's just the class that sucks....
There were four homework assignments, midterm, and a final. If you don't read and memorize stuff as you learn it you will be screwed. A fun proffesor, but sometimes a little cranky.
If you read the book it's a really easy class. She's a fair teacher, if you show up late for class you don't have a right to turn in the homework
doesn't teach, she deposits info through books and lectures
Overall not a very hard class. Takes attendance, so attend even if you can learn most of the material from the book.
I have absolutely no opinion of this woman whatsoever. Very bland. Very vanilla. And other various descriptive words to describe a somewhat boring person and subject. Blah.
Great professor. Has her own handouts and does not teach out of the book. Very fair exams and has a lot of energy.
I seriously wish I had someone else for this class. I pity the children taking her in the fall.
A good professor that can explain the material in a way that a beginer can understand it and use it. If you listen to what she says, you will be all set.
A bit on the boring side. Hot for a prof.
Julie Head is hilarious, plus she knows exactly what she is talking about and relays it to the students well! No complaints!
Exams and class materials provided were clear and to the point. Students more or less knew what was expected for the exams. An overall quality professor who cares about her students and their success in the class.
Absoloute worst accounting instructor I've ever had. She's patronizing, and rambles on like a radio when she teaches. She just expects students to understand stuff in lecture, without giving anyone time to let the material sink in. I hated this class.
Read the book and pay attention in class...you should get a decent grade. Most importantly, she is FAIR...unlike some other A100 teachers!!
Julie Head is a very helpful and understanding professor and she provides good examples but her tests are a completely different story. For A201 be prepared to put in a lot of hard work outside of class to get a good grade. She expects you to know accounting like its yours religion. Class average on the midterm was 77% , She does not curve :(..
she is a talent! she knows accounting very well. She explains cost accounting very well in class too. but she is very arrogant to students. she doesnt care student's feelings. sometimes she is mean(but not very often). exams are extemely hard!! so if u really want to learn sth, take her class. but if u want to have a good grade, probably u dont!
Best Professor in Kelley School of Business. Very helpful, but will not let you slack. Do your work and you should not have a problem in getting a good grade because of how clearly Mrs. Head explains the subject.
The worst teacher ever. All she does is go on about her personal life (NO ONE CARES!). The class seems easy but when it comes to the tests, they are hard. She doesn't prepare you for any exam. WORST TEACHER EVER!
Professor Head is an amazing teacher -- she explains concepts better than all the other professors I have had and uses real-life examples from her experience as an auditor at KPMG. However, I recommend that you do NOT go to her office hours. She is hilarious in lecture, but if you go to her office hours be prepared to not think of her the same...
This prof is a good one, but the tests are tough. The class and lectures are taught at one level and the tests are a few levels above that. You HAVE to read the book if you want a good grade.
Not as good as Tiller, the A201 teacher. Tests are hard and she messes up a lot in class which tends to make you confused. Not a terrible teacher by any means but make sure you go to class and read the book as well.
Not a terrible teacher, lectures are useful, although she makes a point that you can't be late to class
She sets strict rules. If you're late, you might need to sing IU fighting song:( However, she clarifies most stuff in class and keeps tracking your process.
Great teacher! She knows what she's talking about and is very helpful. I highly recommend taking her class.
Julie is very energetic and friendly but her voice is not the first thing you want to hear in the morning. Can get by without doing the readings. The lab is most helpful. She tells you all the tricks she will throw at you in class so attend class. Tests are somewhat challenging and the final was pretty difficult (curved the final overall grade 6%!)
The coursepacks used in class are supposed to be filled in during class. So if you miss class for whatever reason, she structures the coursepacks in such a way that it makes it extremely difficult (if not impossible) to learn the material on your own. My A202 teacher didn't try to further screw students who missed class... not sure why she does.
Overall a good professor for a TOUGH class. She's sarcastic and kind of blunt which made for better explanations of the material, and I found her course packet to be useful. Only minor complaint was that I felt like I was inconveniencing her the couple times I went to her office hours, but the course is structured enough to potentially do well.
Classes aren't very useful, she just talks about concepts when everything is based on examples she fails to show you how to do. Puts all of that on the discussion leaders who are grad students that barely remember how to make a journal entry.
She will not go out of her way to help you, because she "has too many students." She is rude, selfish, and overall a very strict professor. having said that...she is predictable. Go to class, go to lab, and read the workbook. You'll do fine.
Go to lecture, discussion, and read the book and you'll be fine. It's a hard class, but as long as you actually take attention and put in effort you'll do fine
If she's the only teacher then your stuck. Accounting is accounting. Read the book and read through the slides every now and then. don't fall behind doeee
This class is tough and people have to be prepared to put in the time to understand the concepts. Her lectures arent bad, but I would suggest reading the book and doing the questions in the back; the practice tests are too easy. Overall, your gonna have to put in a lot of extra time on your own if you wanna do well on tests.
Accounting is a tough class, even worse due to the large size. However, Julie really knows how to communicate clearly. If someone complains about the class, it's because they didn't do the reading and homework. She designed the packet, discussions and lectures to flow so well. It is very time consuming, so watch out for that.
Julie is great. She makes the class interesting, which is difficult with accounting. Cares about her students. She's pretty funny too.
I think Julie is a good professor. The course packet is compiled well to highlight key concepts and she does a good job explaining them. There are homework assignments before and after a chapter which are tedious but could save your grade. The exams are not tricky but can be if you are unprepared.
Very nice, go to class and you'll be fine
Julie is a solid professor and I'm pretty sure she is also your only option. You don't have to go to your assigned class time which is nice, so if you got stuck with the 8 or 9 leave space in your schedule later in the day. Do the reading always go to class and discussion. My TA was awesome so I didn't really have to study that much for exams.
loved her lecture, most helpful thing in A201 period
Julie cares for her students and wants them to pass. If you go to her for help she will always be there to help you and go out of her way. She also offers so many resources to help students study and pass.
Make sure to never be behind in this class or else you will suffer. The material is taught relatively quick, so make sure to get help as soon as possible whenever you need it. Being an Accounting major, I've enjoyed this course and thought the professor did an excellent job teaching the material.
Prof. Head is your only option for A201, but she teaches a good class nonetheless. My one problem with this course is that all the toughest material is covered RIGHT before the exam. Make sure you really understand the early material so you have plenty of time to study the harder stuff. Do all the practice problems, the coursepack is your friend.
This has been one of the worst classes I have ever taken at IU. The lectures are extremely unhelpful. Her practice tests (if she decides to even give some out) do not correlate with the actual test despite being "old test questions". She does not prepare you for the test at all. Extremely disappointed she is the only A201 teacher.
Julie's lectures are dry and unhelpful. Her practice tests (when she decides to give them to you--didn't for the first test) often do not correlate with the actual test and lecture material. But, those practice tests are your main study material. Only the easiest material is covered in lecture.
This class was by no means "easy." But, to be fully honest, you should be able to do fine if you put in the work. I didn't do any practice tests for the final and got a near perfect on it ( I did practice tests for the first three tests and didn't do so well). If you understand WHY things work + the entries then you should be fine. Julie was great!
I hate accounting but Professor Head made it a little better. I thought she was funny and definitely cared about her students. A201 is a very hard class, but there are lots of resources for help.
Her lecture is useless in terms of preparing for tests. Terrible professor, terrible class to take.
Tests are a little tricky and some questions are based on material she only talks about in lecture. You need a solid understanding of computational material and an even more solid understanding of the theoretical material. Prof Head is incredibly caring, but does not do a great job of explaining.
By far the worst class I have ever taken. She gives practice tests that arent like the actual tests, which have very specific theoretical questions that arent gone over. Its not enough to do practice in course packet, tests, and discussion. I did that for practice and got a B. Read the textbook and understand it. Doesnt go over whats on test
Lectures are boring and not very helpful. Exams are much more difficult than the practice problems given. Make sure to do the online homework as you learn the material and don't wait to do them until the last minute because it can be very time consuming. Some exams had a 60% average. Gave a curve at the end of the class.
IF YOURE NOT AN ACCOUNTING MAJOR TAKE THIS THROUGH A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. If you don't think the same way accountants do, you're screwed for the exams. You have to know the material in and out and if you don't see accounting in the same perspective Julie Head does, you're guaranteed a W on your transcript. Save the grief kids, don't take it here!!
I like Prof Head a lot. Her jokes are kind of lame but it is clear that she loves accounting and the class is not too difficult.
I enjoyed her class. A lot of work, tough, but fair. Some opportunity for extra credit.
This class was very straightforward and gave a solid overview of financial accounting. Julie was a great professor who clearly explained many of the concepts and used examples to do so. Very important class to build your knowledge of accounting.
Accounting is definitely not my thing. This was the hardest class I took this semester. I think there should be a small amount of extra credit or less weight given to the 4 exams. Especially since the before curve average on one was a 75. This is a hard subject. Be ready for a ton of reading.
Very difficult course and many struggle, but if you have taken any accounting in high school, the course may come easier. You do not have to read the textbook, but make sure to extensively review the material and do all optional homework. Utilizing practice problems and reviewing the lectures are much more useful than reading the textbook.
I don't not like her as a person, she really does try to be nice, but her jokes are consistently awkward, and at times she's passive aggressive. The material of this course is hard so naturally it is difficult, but she is not the best teacher at least in my opinion. I'd avoid unless you're confident in your accounting skills and ability to learn it
A201 is a very hard subject be prepared to put in the work. Attend class and ask a lot of question during your discussion class. Seek help if you need it, it is out there. Attend class, read the book to get a better understanding of the material.
Just take it in IU East
Please take this course online. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER.
Personally, I was not a fan of Professor Head. When it came time for exams there is literally no way of knowing what will actually be on them. Exam questions are FAR more difficult than what is in the course packet. Going to lecture felt like a waste of time. I admit I could have put in a bit more effort, but I was not a fan of this class/professor
Professor Head put a lot of effort into structuring the class carefully for the students to be successful. If you put time into reading the chapter each week, going to lecture, and doing the work she suggests, you will be fine. She is knowledgeable about accounting and is ready to help. She's truly a nice person and can be pretty funny sometimes.
Not bad at all. She did a great job adjusting the course to the COVID-19 situation and curved the last two exams. She also rounded up. Definitely knew what she was talking about in lectures and explained hard concepts pretty well.
A201 isn't that tough if you spend time reading chapters every week and do the practice tests before exams. The course package includes all the slides, which summarizes the textbook. Professor Head gives students tips of preparing for each exam and lists out all the resources and help sessions before exams. Her lecture is heavy but really helpful.
If you don't do every homework assignment, I'd say your chances of getting an A are pretty slim. She's a good professor, I think people say she isn't because the class is pretty hard, but nothing wrong with her. She can clarify any question you have and has done a great job adjusting the class with COVID. Would not suggest taking it as a freshman.
I thought Professor Head ran this class very well. There are so many different resources available for you to practice and understand the content. I am now studying for the final and feel that I don't really need to study too much because you will inevitably retain a lot of knowledge practicing through the units.
Julie is the only prof for A201, so you're stuck with her. A201 is really hard but she tries to help you understand the basic concepts. But her tests are HARD and you really aren't prepared for them even if you do all the work. I did every single assignment that we had and I still got consistent 70's on the tests.
Professor Julie Head was a pretty solid teacher. Class is pretty exam heavy so you have to really put in the work for each and every exam. For exams, redo all the packet exercises, connect problems, discussion assignments, and the textbook because she will take some odd questions from it. Overall, you will need to put in a lot of work for an A.
Professor Head was outstanding. She really cares about her students and provides so many resources to help them succeed. I would highly recommend taking her class.
Julie is your only choice for A201. She's a solid teacher. If you want to do well, you will have to read the textbook, it's the only way to actually learn the material. To study for tests, do/redo the packet exercises, they're very similar to the type of problem you'll see on tests. Discussion is where you reinforce what you learn so don't skip.
Notes for incoming students: Disregarding bad study habits, most students do poorly in this class because of what happens in the first 3 weeks. The first exam is CRUCIAL to success in this class. If you can put in extra work on the first exam, you will understand most of the concepts for the rest of the semester instead of playing catch-up.
Teaches ok but exams are very irrelevant to the coursework from Smartbook and Connect. Her brother apparently works at the IMU bookstore in which she will half force you to buy course packets from there. Wondering if there's anything fishy between her brother and her collaboration.
She is not as bad as some people make her out to be. She explains concepts fairly well and puts out a lot of resources to help you succeed. This class is really about how much time you put in. Just be sure to keep up each week and make sure you practice a lot of review problems. Also don't skip discussion as it helps explain concepts in more detail
A201 was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. With classes being online this semester, it definitely made it worse. Prof. Head didn't really teach anything during our one live class a week and the lecture videos were just her reading the notes from the course pack. Take the class with a different professor if possible.
Idk why people don't like her so much. She was a solid professor and was able to explain concepts well. It seems like she wants to see her students succeed. Prof. Head can be a bit awkward but as long as she is able to teach that's not a problem to me.
Julie is a solid teacher; however, the class structure as a whole isn't great. This course as a offers very little flexibility and is mainly graded off of four tests. Beyond review session a few days before an exam and some of the discussion classes, there is really no class specific preparation for tests other than what you do yourself.
Julie is a good teacher for A304, but I will not lie the class is pretty terrible. You will have to go to office hours and do work outside of class in order to do well. She explains the material well but make sure you keep up with the work as this class moves fast if you let yourself start slipping.
I loved professor Head. I think the biggest reason people do not do well is because they are not sure how/what to study. Use her packet reader! It lays out the most important concepts. The smartbook is not always useful since it's not like the test. Head hand picks the most important concepts and puts them on her exams. Just don't get behind!
Head isn't bad but exams way more difficult than necessary for this class. Take the class online through community college instead of Kelley, will be way easier.
Great accounting teacher. Accounting itself is a difficult course regardless of the professor, but Julie does a good job at communicating the topics clearly. Very prepared for class and ready to answer any and all questions.
Julie really is a great teacher! She clearly knows all the ins and outs of accounting and is great at explaining that to her students. You can tell she is very passionate about teaching and wants the best for you. Accounting is difficult for a lot of people so I recommend doing all the course packet work and attending all the discussions.
You need to go to class and pay attention otherwise the tests will be hard. Also do the homework because it really does help. Tests aren't horrible but you need to study. One of the better accounting teachers.
Prof. Head is a decent teacher and knows her stuff but the class structure is pretty bad. The tests are a lot harder than the smartbook and connect exercises and it's very unclear how to study for the exams. The class is mainly based on 4 exams and hurt those who aren't good test takers.
Accounting sucks no matter who you take it with. Julie Head makes A304 the most bearable. Yes is super exam and homework heavy but that is the same with every prof. She has the best grade distribution and overall is your best shot at getting a good grade in the class. Come consistently come to class and study the exam packet it will be okay.
This class is not set up in a way to help students succeed. A large majority of your grade is based on exams even though there is a lot of homework. Outside of class, you are expected to teach yourself the material. Time in class is not used correctly and doesn't cover a lot of the material you are tested on.
Very knowledgeable professor, but lots of homework. Explains concepts really well, but sometimes, exam content doesn't line up with class content
Julie was super sweet as a professor, and probably the best accounting professor at Kelley. The material is just difficult and the way she teaches the course doesn't make it easier. I'd recommend meeting with the free tutors during each unit in preparation for the exam.
This class has a lot of material, but if you go to class and do the exercises and the homework, it will set you up for good grades on the exam. Some topics are difficult to grasp, but professor head answers questions really well. Main thing is do the homework with purpose because it is just like the exams.
Professor Head truly cares for her students. Her exam expectations are clear, as she provides a list of commonly missed topics before each exam. She spends most of class going over practice exercises, which are extremely helpful for exam preparation! As someone who struggled in A100, this course was easy to understand.
Teaches really well and the test genuinely has questions based on what she teaches in class and doesn't ttick you/throw you off. Just pay attention in class and you're good.
Professor Head is a great lecturer. Lectures aren't a waste of time. They actually help you learn more. If you're looking for a professor that doesn't require attendance, don't take accounting with this professor! But I loved having her personally. She's always there to help and she has really good TAs.
Really good choice for A304. Her expectations are clear and tests are fair in general. Only thing I'd wish is that she'd actually teach the content in class rather than relying on video lectures. We're past the pandemic now!
Great accounting professor. Not too much work. Really important to attend lectures as they are mandatory and beneficial for learning material. Exams are challenging but she gives a lot of practice beforehand which are similar to the test questions she gives. TA's are also very helpful.
A304 is not an easy class but I think you have a better shot of getting an A with prof Head. Attendance is required and she is strict about it, but she is very available if you need help and wants her students to do well. I recommend following the exam help sheet and doing the hw, also re-watch the class videos before the exams.
Julie head is the goat. She truly cares about her students and will do what she can to help you out. Definitely not an easy class, but she does everything she can to make it easier
Do the graded connect homework, attend lectures, and pay attention to the content videos. She also explains the content very well. For a person who barely passed A100, she makes her content is very engaging.
Fav prof. If you had Healy for A306, Prof Head will be MUCH easier. Discussion and class material is actually on the exam so as long as you show up to class and do the homework, you're already doing similar problems to the exam. There's more homework (smartbook+prerecorded videos) than A306 but it's all to your benefit. Stay away from Prof Carson
Professor Head is amazing! She is always willing to take time to work with a student. A200 is dull, but she manages to keep it interesting. Workload is low, but the assignments ensure understanding. Attendance is small part of the grade. The readings help. I hate accounting and because of Prof. Head I still find myself excited for every class.
Truly an amazing professor that cares about her students. Super clear instruction and explains material very well. You will do great in this class IF you take good notes and do all of the work. Be prepared to put in time, but if you study well and pay attention you will do great. There are plenty of office hours and tons of resources if you need.
Amazing professor who knows her stuff. Entertaining, actually cares for her students, gives great lectures, and VERY clear grading criteria/expectations. Same assignments due every week. I cannot say enough good things about her. One of the best professors I've had. Watch class videos & do smartbook/connect assignments again to study for exams.
Professor Head is one of the best teachers I've had at IU. She keeps students engaged on Zoom. She provides numerous office hours if you're struggling. She asks students daily on how we're feeling about the material. She genuinely cares for us. Exams were difficult for me, but there's so many assignments to bring your grade up. Take A200 with her!!
Julie is an alright prof. The lectures bounce around very quickly, there are many assignments, and she doesn't explain things very well. If you have taken A100 or any accounting course you'll be fine though.
Julie makes the most of a very difficult class. She's genuinely a great professor and is very polite and caring. However the class A200 is milestones more difficult than A100 with the Mcgraw Hill HW and the in person exams. The class is insanely hard and you will need to invest many hours into studying to pass. But Julie is awesome, take her class.
She cares a lot about her students and is a really wonderful teacher overall. She provides students with everything they need to succeed and tries to ensure that they do. Very positive energy, organized, and makes the material very easy to understand. I would have gotten a much worse grade without her. One of the best professors I've had at IU.
Prof. Head does a somewhat ok job teaching material, but you'll have to rely heavily on your notes packet--which you cannot use during exams. Other than her consistent backhanded comments toward her students whenever they ask questions or deal with personal issues outside of class, she's not a bad accountant, just not the best at teaching.
She is a nice woman, and she seems like she is trying, but when it comes to homework compared to classwork, it does not translate. Expect to use outside sources to be able to understand the homework, and don't rely on your notes for the online midterms, as the finals are in person and no notes. A very confusing class overall and not one I recommend
This was the first accounting class I've ever taken and it was pretty easy. There are 4 exams (2 online open note, no curve and 2 in person no notes, slightly curved) all of which are easy, I got between a 94-100 on all of them with minimal studying. Just rewatch some lectures, be able to do most of the homework without resources and you'll be fine
Prof Head is a tough but fair instructor. Attending class is a must, but the lectures are engaging and genuinely helpful. Utilize unstuck study and the provided exam prep materials - they're key to success in this class.
As someone who knew nothing about accounting, I am happy to say that Professor Head was an extremely passionate teacher who helped me start to understand it! The content is difficult at times, but she provides many opportunities to practice and ask questions. If you take notes and actually listen to her lectures, you'll be fine!
Made accounting interesting. Not an overly difficult class. If you pay attention to and engage in the lectures (which is sometimes difficult because of the online component), you should succeed. Grade is heavily reliant on exams (2 online, rarely curved; 2 in person, slightly curved though our first in person exam was heavily curved).
Worked through many problems in class, so it was clear of what was expected during homework assignments and assessments.
I went into accounting with no knowledge of what I would be getting into. I am now leaving loving accounting. Julie is kind of much but she is an amazing professor. Attendance matters. I never did the readings and I did just fine. Pay attention in class and form study groups! Overall 9/10. Plus its online! Choose Julie!!
Really enjoys teaching. Makes it easy to study for exams by giving clear rubric and gives access to a lot of material for revision. Is strict with due dates but easy to get good grades if you do what she tells you to do.
Wasn't bad at all! She gets a bad wrap and I don't know why
Would never take this teacher again! Throughout all my years of school I have never had a teacher with as little empathy and understanding as Julie. Her lecture wants to make you fall asleep and she is just not funny. A200 itself should be a straight forward class but she has found a way to make it difficult.
Very sweet if u pay attention! Just do the work and you will be fine. She is strict on due dates though.
