Really great teacher. connects with students and is interested in the topics we discuss. A good class to take :-)
She is an interesting woman. Class is a constant argument but philosophy is about things no one agrees on so its appropriate. Her papers are okay not too bad or good.
She is a good teacher, but holds her students to an unreachable standard
great teacher interesting, knows her material. just because she does doesnt mean you dont have to. ready the material and youll be just fine. easy grader only 2 test and a paper
She really knows her stuff, she expects you to, but I didn't and I still passed with a B. You have a journal, two papers, and 2 tests. It's not a class you totally cruise through, but if you got her dont panic!
Pretty good teacher, if you get a class that is into discussion. Very helpful with assignments.
She was very unfair on her grading. She graded on how she liked you, not on your preformance. She was not helpful at all, if you have an opinion in her class, please for you own grades sake, keep it to yourself!
Great professor! Her communication skills are among the best at the school. Tests were challenging. The text, however, was very difficult to get through. I could not help reading each line and thinking to myself, "There must be a clearer way to say t
good teacher because she really knows what she's talking about, but not an easy A.
I thought this was going to be a good class, but it's just so boring! "Comparative religion" is the name of the course, and we havent learned about any religion so far, she just repeats during class what the book says, the exams are hard. Hard and boring... you won't learn anything new or useful.
The lectures were presented from a liberal and biased viewpoint, which made it hard to pay attention or even care about what was being said. Her grading is by her standards only. Leave any grammar rules at the door and learn to write for what she likes only. Test weren't life threatening- but stu
This is my second class with her. She is a liberal libertarian, but still a fun professor. She cares about her students, but also holds everyone at an extremely high standard. If you particpate her classes will be enjoyable
Dr. Ingersoll is very knowledgeable on the subject matter. She outlines the chapters and the tests pretty much come from that. This class was very easy if you showed up and took notes. There is no excuse for doing poorly in her Comparative Religion class.
she is one of the worst teachers... i didnt learn a thing in that class... if i were u i wouldnt take this class...
don't do it. avoid at all costs!!
Lots of reading that she expects you to know. Tests are not easy so you better study. She knows her stuff.
She's very engaging; strives to have effective communication and discussions and she is completely objective; I got more than an expected overview of world religions. She's interesting, but my friend had her in an earlier class to tell me what to study for :) Made out with a B+ Final proj were fun.
I hope I never have a class as boring as this one. The class was about what makes up a religion not comparing them. The chapters are long and she doesnt tell you what is important. This class is a waste of time..You have been warned!
This class had a few talkers (Sociology Majors) and a few future "Fry Guys"(Philosophy Majors). She was awesome, as a rule, but who knows why she would have a PhD in Religious Studies when she gives EVERY indication of being ANTI-Religion!?
The class involved a lot of reading but she really knows her stuff. The tests aren't the easiest things in the world but it's pretty easy to make a b in the class as long as you show up and do the work.
boring class. Tests are tough but she is an easy grader. Not worth taking if you can take another class to fulfill a pre. req. Everything is out of a book, gets old real fast, besides that she is a nice lady.
Like Jekyll & Hyde. Nice, knowledgeable, and informative then critical, critical, and critical.
Hard class. Expect to do a lot of work like reading the long chapters in the text. Tests are extremely specific. Sometimes she's an easy grader and other times she's not. She takes attendance so its important to be there. Don't take if you want an easy A.

BORING! Knows the facts but doesn't really understand religion. Class is about reading about and comparing two random aspects of an obscure religion. Then you do it again the next day! The tests cover so much material and you have to guess what will be on it. Easy grader though, but not worth your time. AVOID!

Horrible teacher- Class is boring, Only two tests - very specific, hard to understand what she is looking for. Wouldn't recommend her to anyone, especially if u are looking for an easy A. Good luck if you made the mistake of taking her.
Great Professor! I don't know why people have such a hard time with her, becuase if you express your concerns, she will do anything to meet your needs. Pay attention and show up to class and you'll do fine. Also, it helps to do the reading!

Dr. Ingersoll's classes are intersting and conducive to good class discussion. She's articulate and knowledgeable, and helps you look at various religions from different perspectives. Take a night class with her--fewer freshman, more serious discussions.
Amazing teacher, easily my favorite class. Five books, five scholarly reviews of said books..that's the class. In-class discussions are great and she'll go over anything that doesn't make sense. The books are interesting but sometimes difficult, so come to class if you want to do well! Anyone who fails is **** or lazy.
WONDERFUL PROFESSOR!!!!!!! I can't wait to take another class with her! She explains whatever you have a question on and, while she does expect a lot, it's nothing you can't handle. Group project is fun. Tests are super specific, but if you study you should do fine. COME TO CLASS! it is worth every moment. She's fun and makes learniing easy...yay!
Do not take during summer. She refused to change her syllabus to use the shorter schedule better and did not use the time she had. She was very scattered and left little time for research on final paper.
Far too much reading/work for a 6wk class - 100pgs of reading a day, plus an ethnography and two tests? Omitting the ethnography or tests would have made it doable, but don't take this class in the summer unless you don't have a job or anything else to do. It's boring, too - all anthropological, not sociological/religious at all. Try another prof!
I was interested in religion prior to the class, but I didn't know there was a dry side to it. She is an excellent lecturer, but the class usually consists of lectures, and tests. Little discussion. If you're interested in religion, you'll be fine, if not: it can feel a little repetitive day in and out.
GREAT PROFESSOR. Prolific in her field, knowledgeable and articulate. Material and assignments were delightfully challenging. Do the reading and you're golden. Great sense of humor, intimidatingly intelligent. Open to input from students, cooperative, and sincere. One of the best professors I've had at UNF. Take her if you can!
She is a great professor! There is little room to screw up, as your grade relies heavily on your test grades. If you do the reading and participate, it won't be that hard. If you're interested in religion, this is a great class to take, but it would be boring for someone who has no interest. She's very respectable and very smart in her field.
horrible teacher. wants to use technology but cant even figure out a dvd player. complete waste of time every time i go to class. must write papers instead of test
One of the kindest and most interesting as well as friendliest and down to earth professors I have had the pleasure of having while at UNF. She really does everything she can for everyone including making the classroom atmosphere very respectful and yet light-hearted, even when dealing with controversial or serious subject matter. A+++++
She is an ok teacher. She is helpful but this class requires A LOT of reading. If you hate to read do not take this class. Overall, if you like religion she is a good teacher. If you don't then don't take this class. It is not easy!
She is a great professor! I really knew nothing about religion before taking this class and I learned alot from her. This was the only class that I never wanted to skip. You can tell she is really interested in the material and is interesting to listen to. It is really easy to pass as long as you go to class and study the notes.
Extremely helpful and nice to look at. ;)
LOVE HER! Took her for Religion as Culture. GREAT teacher! Has a laid-back Californian attitude, but LOVES her subject and knows lots about it. However, you MUST attend class and read the book. If you love religion, this class is awesome and fun to take.
You have to read the books. Theres only 4 grades and the test arent that easy. She is a good teacher but not easy.
Took this class in Summer A session. You've got to do the reading and be prepared to discuss the material. Her tests aren't hard if you've done the reading and taken notes during lecture. She teaches well and will help you really understand a concept. Made it interesting for everyone-Great professor!
She is very nice and very clear. If you do the work you will do fine. She really seems to care about what she is doing and you are sure to learn a lot
She is really nice, and makes class really easy. There are 3 test and 1 group project. The class is really easy as long as you take notes, I recommend her!
Very nice.
Very nice lady. Listens to everyone and considers all thoughts and opinions. Interesting lectures, but read so you can follow along and join in the discussion. Also, study your notes closely - the tests aren't hard if you do. Pretty lenient on definitions. Good class, easy B / A
Very nice teacher, knowledgeable. The book is the basis for her powerpoint lectures, which she does not give out on Blackboard, and she only goes over material once, so you can't really miss class. Only like 3 grades, all tests, so make sure you study the book and went to class. Emphasis on STUDY THE BOOK
This professor is amazing! Very kind and willing to work with anyone on any questions or problems. She is extremely intelligent in the religious studies field, but more importantly is open minded and considerate. You will have an excellent grade as long as you read, take notes, and engage in class discussion! I recommend her to anyone and everyone
I really enjoyed this course and her teaching. There are only four grades, but as long as you study it is easy to get good grades.
i've taken professor ingersoll for three different religion courses. i could not give a good enough recommendation. she is an excellent teacher, very willing to work with you. gives partial credit on tests. attendance not mandatory but most test info comes from powerpoint notes and readings so it helps to be there. TAKE HER!
I had Conmparitive religions with her and she is not the easiest professor. You take 4 exams and you have 1 final project. She does not drop any tests :(. If you have a concern, she will not cooperate to solve it with you. You must read the books in order to pass her hard exams that consist of 20 ques (40points) and 3 essays (60 points).
dude don't listen to the previous post. prof Ingersoll is so great! her exams are easy if you listen in class and are there for the review. easy A. ka-ching!
Honestly, Nice lady and everything but her test are crazy hard. Not a fun class. You MUST read everything & study immensely before every test. only 5 grades in the class. Would NOT recommend this class AT ALL.
Nice lady, can be kind of snippy but take down notes word for word from power points and study those and you'll be fine. group project at the end and paper but not bad at all. easy grader for group project. 4 tests i believe and no final. just a 4th exam. definitely take her.. fairly easy overall
It was online! She was very sarcastic and not understanding at all. Graded way too hard for this to be a 2000 level course. I would not advise anyone to take her and I never will. I am a senior and she made this class impossible.
She's awesome! You have to read the material and pay attention in class but it really pays off. She really wants you to pass and her tests aren't too difficult; if you explain yourself thoroughly, she'll give you credit even if you're completely wrong about something. She's really funny and she knows what she's talking about. Take her class!!
Prof. Ingersoll is great, most of the people that don't like her class don't like it because of WHAT she teaches not HOW she teaches she is a good professor and convinced me to use be part of the new religion major. If your taking her class for an elective it's not an easy A but it's not super hard either if your a religion major take her class!!!!
Tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class. Class project was so easy. She's funny and interesting and really makes whats she's teaching relatable to someone who has no prior knowledge of the subject.
Would not take her again. The entire class misunderstood her because she dont follow her syllabus or barely put anything on it as well as blackboard. she thinks we can read her mind. be prepared to have your essays on test worth more than everything else
She adapts to her student's feedback so it gets better with time. Hard tests, but if you study they aren't so bad. The BYO religion project was fun. However, she is obsessed with punctuality, is sarcastic, and very unsympathetic. I recommend her if you can be an adult, and roll with the life's not fair moments because she doesn't care for excuses
Two words....proctored test. She is one of 4 teachers at UNF that use and online proctored test that you have to log into. Not to mention the questions she ask on her quizzez are so nit picky. You have to remember the entire powerpoint in order to get a decent grade! She also has gets smart when you ask questions, but she doesnt confirm clarity.
Pretty easy teacher. As long as you pay attention in class and read the textbook, you'll do well on her tests. They can be pretty confusing though because she words the questions badly. But, she's a nice teacher. No final, just a final project which is super easy.
Assignments for this class were equally weighted. So a 20 question quiz was worth same as a 5 page paper. Questions on quizzes were worded poorly and confusing. To make matters worse, each of the 20 questions were worth 5 points. So good luck getting a good grade. No extra credit! I have a 4.0 GPA and was lucky to get an A-. Lame!
Never have I felt more free to ask questions than with Dr. Ingersoll. She is amazingly knowledgeable, and she is also able to teach in a way that is clear and easy to understand. It isn't an easy class, but if you do the reading and attend lecture, passing the tests should be no big deal. There also is not a comprehensive final.
Hated her class. Tests are ridiculously inconsistent and involve essays that she will always grade as "too brief" even though you need to write 3 essays on the back of one piece of paper. Expect a group project with a final paper, 4 tests, and all equally weighted grades. No homework/classwork/attendance grades. Read the book
Dr. Ingersoll can seem super unapproachable, but really is a sweet lady. She genuinely cares for her students, but doesn't go easy on them. Be willing to put in the work, and reach out to her when needed. 4 exams, mostly multiple choice/essays but they're not too horrible. Lots of reading, & an ethnography portfolio done over the whole semester.
Initially she's a little hard to approach since she's forthright and honest (something a lot of college students don't usually expect), but she's cool if you talk to her one-on-one.
Love this professor. She really wants you to do well and she is always available, gives good feedback and quickly answers emails. Lectures are good, tests are exactly on the info read and info in lectures. No final just a term paper on site visits. She is very fair and one of my favorites!
The absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Takes it way to seriously for a "basic" level class, she gives horrible notes and her tests are SO HARD and based on her extremely long and boring lectures. Doesn't post grades or notes online, and good luck trying to take them in class-talks to fast! I'm trying to warn anyone maybe taking this, DO NOT.
Julie Ingetsoll is a left wing ideologue who cannot keep her opinions out of her lectures. She has a bias toward Islam when discussing religion, mostly from her apparent liberal background. She does not take questions easily and is quick to point out the bias in her students questions, but not her bias in her lectures. Dont take her classes.
I wanted to like Prof Ingersoll when I first started this class, but it became increasingly difficult. She has a very bipolar way of teaching and has been rude o students on several occasions. Tests have nothing to do with what we learn in class or what we've read. I would recommend a different class/professor.
This professor first off can be extremely inconsiderate and rude to her students. There are 4 exams and a final project, 20% weighted for each exam and the project, be prepared to write multiple essay questions for each exam worth the most points. Didnt enjoy the class much.
Honestly not that bad of a class you just have to apply yourself and actually look over the notes. Her grading scale is crazy though only about 4 or 5 assignments the quarter that all have the same weight. If you take this class I wouldn't recommend it for freshmen.
Dr. Ingersoll's class was awful. The tests were worded weirdly, and they were difficult to take. They were also 100 points each test with only 20 questions. The final paper was so confusing and her instructions were not direct and she didn't even provide a rubric. Overall, I do not recommend this class at all. Worst class I've taken so far.
This class was taken online and it was very difficult. She gives PowerPoints and lectures, but when she is doing the lecture, she just reads off of the PowerPoint and doesn't explain a lot of things that someone that has never taken a religion course would know. Tests are worded differently than the notes are so it just makes it more confusing.
Professor Ingersoll might come across as a very nice teacher, but she is awful. She is incredibly test heavy and her lectures and power points have little to no correlation to her tests. Also get ready to read a ton. She claims to pull material from the textbook on the test but even then there's little correlation. Do not take her if you can.
This class is pretty tough. Very textbook heavy. The lectures are long and sometimes do not correlate to the test material. The exams at the end of each module are worth a lot of your grade, so get ready to study hard. At the end, theres a term paper and the rubric for it is straightforward. However, the professor is kind and very responsive.
Taking this class was terrible, There are only 5 grades, 4 of them being tests; Which have little correlation to the lectures. If you want to pass this course, be prepared to study everything you can for the tests and read the book actively. Unless you are actively going for a field related to this course, I recommend going to any other class.
Take someone else for this class seriously. The tests are filled with obscure information and your grade is pretty much only based on them. Extremely tough grader on the final paper and will subtract points on assignments for insignificant things even though there is no rubric. Luckily she does round your final grade...
If youre looking to take a class where you actually learn things and aren't just making yourself present to get a grade then this is the class for you. Wonderful professor with a fun teaching environment. Tests will require you to develop a certain way to study for them, overall would take her again
The actual content in the class is interesting, but she doesn't make it enjoyable. She's honestly kind of rude to her students, which is why the class is less enjoyable it feels awkward watching her treat others poorly. The exams aren't terrible and the final project is not so bad. Overall I'd still recommend a different professor for this course.
I took her comparative religion as an online class, I spent many hours weekly on her course. There is 3 books you must buy, numerous readings weekly, discussion post weekly, 6 exams, and a written paper. So much busy work for no reason, I had more homework for her course than any others. DONT TAKE THIS PROF if u don't want to read&write a lot.
A lot of work, but if not too hard to complete in time as long as you don't wait until the last minute. Site visits to religious communities required. Exams are heavily based off of her lectures and the readings- Don't skip them!! Provides good feedback on discussion posts and final paper.
Professor Ingersoll is knowledgeable and fair, though a bit tough with feedback. There are weekly exams, 2 in-person site visits, and a term paper. The amount of assignments isn't that bad. Make sure to stay on top of the assignments and avoid procrastinating, time management is essential to succeed in this class.
Worthwhile. Would take again
