Just throws notes on the board and doesn't explain. If one person says they understand she moves on. Says she is there to help her students but I found that false. I would not recommend her for any math course.
I get only a sort of fuzzy understanding of the material from her. We learn processes and usually they work, but it's unclear why they work or what we're really doing. She expects people to automatically make connections, but it often doesn't happen.
This teacher is terrible. She spends 40 of the 50 minutes in class going over homework questions and not teaching the new material. When confronted about taking 3 weeks to grade the all three tests, she said that it wasnt like it was her job to just do that, or that she had all the time in the world to grade our tests. Teacher is AWEFUL DONT TAKE
Lassiter is a very, very bad teacher. She is a kind lady and she seems to care, but her office hours are extremely limited and she spends almost all of class time either doing a ridiculously hard problem, or just putting notes on the board and NOT explaining them. To top it off, she tries to trick you on tests. Avoid her at all costs.
I don't know what these other people are talking about I think she is a great teacher. She does give alot of homework but it helps out in the end. As for the tests they seemed to be pretty fair for the most part. Id say she was the best out of the three I have had by a long shot.
I thought Prof Lassiter was a wonderful professor. I found her to be very helpful. I highly enjoyed the class.
Dr. Lassiter is such a nice lady. I did very well in her class. She teaches in a really basic manner which makes it easy to understand. She also gives pretty easy tests, and grades very easily. I would recommend her for any class.
I will sum it up in two sentences. Her first test was more difficult than the MthSc 108 and 206 final... NO JOKE. Also, one more comment: she assigns way too much homework (avg 50 probs a week) and does a bad job of explaining new material. I was lost about 3/4 the class.
While she is a nice woman, I would not reccomend her. She did not do a good job explaining concepts and could very easily be stumped by questions from the class.
She is very demanding, about 15 hw problems every class that you turn in and she grades a few problems. Tests were not bad if you kept up with the hw but very time consuming. I didn't find class lessons very helpful.
She's a pretty good teacher overall, and she's really nice. Tests were a joke, and she gave out bonus points for doing HW. I'd recommend her.
I wouldnt reccomend her. She spends most of classtime going over homework that she can neither do or explain. Homework is taken up everyday, the questions she assigns dont have solutions, and it is either all right or "resubmit". The examples she does in class are rediculous and nothing like the test. No graphing calc on tests
Would not recomend, not a good teacher at all, nice lady but horrible teacher. she collects every hw assignment. test not related to book examples at all
goes over theories all the time. had to get every homework problem correct to get graded. it was all or nothing. nice lady but doesn't explain very well. wants to help. tries to help. keeps office hours, but if you go for help she talks way above your understanding.
Really nice person but she cannot explain things well at all. Homework is due everyday, and if you don't get it all correct, you get no credit until the problems are corrected and resubmitted. Meanwhile the next homework assignment is still due. Takes forever to get grades back to you. One test took three weeks to be returned. Would not recommend
Very nice person and very helpful outside of class. Lectures weren't all that helpful and had to teach myself most of the material. Spends some class time doing yoga (although none of it was on the final exam.) She also won't give any extra credit if you have the same birthday as her.
Her tests really arent that bad. Her lecture style and note-giving style could use some work, its pretty erratic. 208 with her wasnt too bad but 206 would be a nightmare. She does mandatory homework assignments but these are grade boosters. Overall, friendly, reasonable instructor. Can only use a $1 four function calculator, so avoid for 206!
Horrible teacher!! Do not take her. Cannot explain things at all. Ive had straight "A"s in math all my life until this class and I barely pulled out a "C"! I hated this class (and I am a math major!) If you care at all about learning or your GPA, avoid this teacher.
Worst teacher I have ever had! Daily corrected by her own students! She can't even copy notes correctly! Doesn't grade her own HW or tests so she never has a clue. She doesn?t make her own tests! gives 20 problems and one hour to do them! not possible! Hw graded daily and commonly uses incorrect keys to grade with! lectures are informationless!
Cares about her students, wants them to do well, but the homework is 10% of the grade (daily quizzes) and the other 90% of your grade are from tests! I enjoy math and it usually comes easy to me but her teaching methods are not the best. You will go over maybe 2 examples a day and you are expected to learn the rest. AVOID if possible!
Dr. Lassiter is a great and thought-provoking teacher. In my experience, the students that don't like her are the ones that expect their learning to arrive on a silver platter. Dr. Lassiter makes you actually think about the concepts, and in doing so, you can gain a great understanding of the material.
NO! Unless you want to spend all of your time studying and teaching yourself the material. Incapable of relating to students. Class consists of few examples with poor explanations. Tests are different than the assigned homework. No graphing calculator on tests. She has yoga breaks though..Woo Hoo, who cares, not my GPA...
Worst math teacher I have ever had. I've never made below a B in a math class and normally tutor other students but I got a D in her class. Tests are OBSCENELY harder than homework and practice problems. Every question had some sort of ridiculous curve ball that had never appeared in lecture or homework.
I would not recommend this professor.
Probably the best teacher I have had thus far at Clemson.
Great teacher! don't know why these reviews are so awful. hw is pretty tough not due every night tho but she delayed almost EVERY assignment because people were whining about it. if you don't understand ask questions, she's very helpful! test questions are easier than hw, imo. lectures make for good notes, teaches through examples. liked the class!
Not bad as a teacher if you like basing an entire chapter off one example. If you're taking MTHSC 206 from her, don't count on the lecture being much help. Helpful, but everything is purposefully convoluted. And the HW is absolute shenanigans (thankfully only 5% of the grade though)
She's not to bad if you are willing to put in the time. This class is A LOT of work
Pretty awful! Felt like I learned a lot but still did awful on the tests. There would be questions on it that were never discussed in class.
She was absolutely HORRIBLE. She gives 9% A's and you have to teach yourself EVERYTHING. DO NOT TAKE FOR MTHSC 206. Lectures teach you nothing and ridiculous amounts of homework.
Terrible teacher, tests are extremely hard. Tests are usually a few questions long. So if you miss one or two your grade is already a C. She also is very stingy with partial credit.
Ok, here's the lowdown: yes, her tests are very difficult, not going to lie. But if you do the assigned online and book homework in a timely manner before pop quizzes and exams, as well as take notes and actively listen to her, you should gradually get better. You have to be motivated.
She is one of the hardest teachers for the course. She's semi helpful if you go in for office hours. Her tests are hard. In addition to online homework which takes several hours to do you have book homework as well. I would not recommend her.
Julie is very passionate about math. Unfortunately, that is the only compliment I can give to her. She is a very poor instructor and will leave you wondering what the hell she wants you to know for the test. Outside of class, webassign problems average around 40 problems per assignment vs. 10 in other classes. Avoid at all costs.
I wouldn't even call her a teacher because she doesn't even teach. She writes a problem on the board and without explanation, she asks a student to come solve it and teach the class while she watches and daydreams about her 1,928,373,502 cats she probably has at home. Tests are extremely hard too. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! You're warned.
She isn't the best teacher, but if you ask her questions and go to office hours she is more than willing to help you. Compared to the homework, tests aren't very difficult. There's quite a bit of homework, but it only helps.
Puts up practice exams which have nothing to do with what will be on actual exams. No clear rhyme or reason to why she takes off points on tests, lots and lots of homework
Probably the worst professor I have had at clemson. Doesn't explain examples in class but would rather students put them up on the board, mostly incorrect answers. She wont give straight answers about what to do even in office hours. Doesnt listen to students when they say they dont understand things most time gets other students to explain example
Dr Lassiter is useless. She gives a ton of homework and would rather have students teach the class instead of her. Her voice is also rather annoying and after taking her class, I'm convinced she does not know how to do math. Buy the textbook because you'll be teaching yourself.
She is awful at teaching MATH 2080. Not once did we get an example problem. Everyone just sits there and looks at each other pretending to do something all class. The tests are impossible. She is as clueless as the students. Even she can't get a problem correct if it isn't fully worked out on her notes sheet.
As a senior, I have had a lot of professors but she is by far the least effective. She cannot solve problems unless she reads the solution manual. She tries to make class fun by having students teach the class. All students are lost so this just causes everyone else more confusion. Tests are nearly impossible. Worst class I have taken ever.
Easily the most ineffective prof I've had in 5 years at Clemson. She has little or no understanding of the material and thus relies on students doing problems on the board to teach. No one can do them so no one really learns. Expect weekly homework and quizzes with no helpful feedback. Grading method a total mystery. She might actually be a cat.
Assigns far too much homework. Spends the entire class time going over examples, but since you can't possibly memorize them all, good luck knowing which one is appropriate on a test or quiz. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives a scheduled quiz every other class.
Quite possibly the worst lecturer in the math department. She gives out way too much homework that she doesn't even know how to do (She literally called her son one time to help her on a problem) and then tests on concepts we barely had time to discuss. We covered the entire second half of the course the week before the final. Would not take!
Dr. Lassiter really cares about her students but I don't really agree with her teaching method. She assigns a lot of homework and pop quizzes every 3 chapters or so. She grades the homework pretty hard so I'd suggest using Sladder(app) to check all answers and work. If you really work and read the textbook you'll probably be fine
Actually the worst class I've taken at Clemson. Tests are just her deducting a random number points for no real reason. Her teaching method is that she basically reads from the book, and makes students do problems to teach the class. Quizzes happen often enough, and are usually unannounced.
The worst math professor I have ever had, being unclear and confusing in her teaching methods. She has her students do all of the example problems and answer other student's questions. She has "stretch breaks" during class. The amount of homework given is absurd. Her test questions are unlike any quiz or practice problem, stingy partial credit.
She really isn't that good at explaining. She'll talk about a concept, put a problem up on the board and expect that you'll be able to work it out on your own immediately. Really can't teach well and everyone failed the first test in the class. Barely got a B and definitely didn't learn as much as I should have
The worst teacher I've ever had. I'm currently enrolled in Math 2060 in her class and I'm on the verge of getting a D. Coming from a student who got a 3.5 GPA last semester that says a lot. She doesn't explain anything and leaves it up to the students to teach themselves. The tests are ridiculously hard and the amount of homework is unacceptable.
Dr Lassiter is a good woman. But not a good teacher. I took her class as a freshman and it was by far the hardest thing I've ever done. You have homework due almost 3 nights a week and slader taught me the majority of calc 3. Don't take if you don't have to
I've taken a lot of Math courses at Clemson and she is the worst teacher I've ever had. I barely got a B and I had to work overtime to get by. Assigns way too much homework and doesn't actually teach during class. She talks about a concept, puts the problem up on the board and expects the students to teach each other. Hated every second. AVOID!!!!!
Her teaching style is very frustrating. She goes through the material in terms of variables, like the textbook, won't do any examples, and puts problems on the board for us to do ourselves. I barely learned from her lectures, and basically took all my notes from the textbook. You HAVE to do the homework in order to do well on the quizzes and tests.
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Doesn't teach; puts examples on the board and has different groups of students work each example. Barely any lecturing or material coverage. "A little out there" is too polite. A teacher that requires attendance should cover the course material in a manner that prevents the use of Khan Academy, and she was unable to do so.
She does not teach. At most she will write a few definitions on the board or a graph if you're lucky. Her main teaching style is putting a problem on the board and asking if anyone knows how to do it. She then has them solve it on the board (with absolutely no explanation), tells everyone to look and asks if everyone understands then moves on.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had. Calling her a teacher is generous because it implies she actually teaches the material. Don't take a class with her unless you have to, basically.
Worst "teacher" I've ever had. Just puts proofs up and expects that to teach you. I learned nothing from class, everything from YouTube and the textbook. Her "teaching" style is writing problems on the board and saying anyone know how to do it? or taking 4 days of class to show a graduate level proof that makes sense to nobody. AVOID THIS CLASS
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Did not ONCE demonstrate anything she "taught" us, instead expecting us to "think about it for awhile and figure it out". I learned more by cram-studying the day before finals than I had in the last month in the class. Unless you have masochistic tendencies, do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE take this class.
This is literally the worst professor. I do not understand why Clemson is even paying her to teach. If there is anyway at all you can avoid this class PLEASE do.
She was hard to understand. She was both vague and specific about topics. She taught us information we did not need to know. I learned 80% of the course from Youtube and the Textbook. She is enthusiastic about topics just does not know how to properly explain anything. Would not recommend taking this class unless you enjoy extra work.
She doesnt teach anything and expects you to figure things out on your own. You will learn more from reading the textbook and watching videos than her lectures. Her quizzes are unannounced, so you never have time to prepare for material she never taught you. She takes forever to grade and sometimes the homework is on material we dont need.
Plainly put, Dr. Lassiter's teaching style makes it impossible to learn. She never explains the examples she puts on the board, which leads to wasted class time since students have to struggle through the questions without help. She gives pop quizzes, so beware of those. I watched the YouTube channel Professor Leonard and that is how I got an A.
Very unhelpful when it comes to explaining key concepts. If you are in honors section, she expects the section to know the material already and teach it to themselves. Does not stay on the correct pace. I usually do well in math courses and have done so until her class. Be prepared for late night mental breakdowns over her class and tests.
Dr. Lassiter is a very kind woman who cares about her students. Her teaching style, however, is horrific. I did not understand anything in this class. She often put up problems on the board and had us just try to figure out a theorem on our own with no instruction. When said we don't understand, she would just say that she believes in us.
Dr. Lassiter is passionate in teaching the beauty of mathematics to her students and goes beyond by not just showing you how to solve the problems, but why the methods we use work. However, in order to make the most of her classes, you will need to be willing to work through problems on the board as this is where most of the learning is done.
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. Julie's teaching style is not helpful to the majority of people. She basically puts a problem up on the board and has a student come up and solve it. Then we move on without going over the problem. Exams are significantly harder than homework problems. I basically had to teach myself the entire course.
Dr. Lassiter is a great professor. Lectures are pretty fast but she's always willing to answer questions as long as you're willing to reach out and ask. Tests felt very fair. You certainly won't be spoon-fed every bit of information, but as long as you are willing to put some time and effort into understanding the material then you should be fine.
Her grading is super lenient and as long as you do well on tests and quizzes, homework is optional. She teaches theorems rather than applications, so you will do most of the learning on your own. I would recommend her if you feel like you will do well in the class, but if you think you will need help I advise a different professor.
There is a lot of homework and learning from the textbook.
If you're not good at teaching yourself high level Calculus, don't take her. She is very nice, but homework is excessive and her teaching style sucks unless you understand math instantly, and even then you won't know what's going on. Half the time we don't even learn how to do a problem before solving it.
Just awful. No note sheets, no equation sheets, makes the class so much harder than it should be. Awful Professor.
Dr. Lassiter is very enthusiastic and I believe tries her hardest to help students. HOWEVER, her lectures were all over the place and relied HEAVILY on students blindly attempting problems with little guidance. If there weren't students that went up and tried the problems, the class didn't move forward. LOTS of gaps of silence without content.
Prof. Lassiter is very caring and is enthusiastic about the content, but I found her lectures to be scattered and often hard to follow. I would recommend for someone to take Prof. Lassiter only if they are confident in their ability to stay on top of reading the textbook and taking textbook notes to teach themselves the content.
She started class on the first day by saying feel free to teach the class for her. She loves math but cannot teach it. Her lectures were speratic, and the only people that understood it had already taken calc 3. If you did not understand it, she told you to look at it harder. I had to teach myself everything in the class.
My number one opp at Clemson, if you don't already know calc 3 don't bother taking her class. Only redeeming quality is how much partial credit is given on tests (that are worth 90% of your grade btw). Not a fun time don't take her.
Awful. Not accommodating, and not worth taking if you have a lot of credit hours or are working.
This teacher is very knowledgeable on the subject and clearly wants you to learn about calculus, but she doesn't know how to teach very well at all. Her main method of teaching is by using proofs that are tricky to understand even if you are quite knowledgeable, and they take up more time than they are worth. You have to pretty much teach yourself.
She is a great person, but she does not give many actual lectures. In class, you typically go over a few homework questions, then she jumps straight into the next topic, but you need to figure it out. All of the homework is in the textbook, and that will be your lifeline. Goodluck
AVOID!! If you want fatally high blood pressure, then Lassiter is for you. She is nice lady, but this class is "taught" directly out of a textbook. Never the entire semester did she work a problem to its answer. Taught myself the entire class on YouTube. Tries to get other students to teach the class, except none of us know what we're doing. Bad!!
Should you take Lassiter? No No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no Emojies definition:😧🤬👿😥😾💩😔😥❌️🎓🫵😂
Avoid taking at all costs. Teaches the entire class through theorems and proofs which are completely useless on the exams and homework.
This woman is evil. Do not take her. You will likely pass the class as she gives a lot of partial credit, however you will not learn anything. Moves her hands in random directions to try to show things physically and then will stare and smile menacingly at the class after asking if we all understand what she's trying to show, as we sit in silence.
This class is the hardest class I've ever taken. The hw is annoying, but even if you attempt it you get a 100. However, the tests are wonderful, straight forward conceptual questions with as much partial credit as possible. Dr. Lassiter really cares and honestly if you're willing to put in the effort her class can be really great.
Professor Lassiter is a really nice person and very passionate about math. However, she does not teach well. Paying attention to her lectures and participating in group work did not help with doing well on her tests. Her tests were actually pretty easy, but you will have to teach yourself everything.
Don't take her class. I repeat. Don't do it. She does a flipped classroom, so you spend hours every off-day you have teaching yourself. She clearly loves math, but she genuinely doesn't know what she is talking about. She stares at you with a blank smile when you ask a question, and then flips it back to you bc she doesn't know how to answer it.
lecture was incredibly confusing due to being student led, and homework was hard, but it was rather easy to get an A in due to her tests being much easier than anything else she gives you, and relaxed grading. stopped doing the rather long homework halfway through the course, and still got an A due to the final replacing lowest grade.
Lectures are 'student-led' and can be stale just because nobody knows what to do, but lowkey if you just say 'I don't know', she'll help you'll learn material well. Really nice person also and gives homework extensions whenever you need it. Tests are easy, no reason you shouldn't get an A in this class as long as you study.
She doesn't know how to teach. She lectures about how to get the formulas that are given in the textbook instead of how to use them. Get to know Professor Leonard on yt. He will save you. Also the hw is 90% of how you learn by teaching yourself, yet its 5% of the total grade.
She doesn't give any lectures or notes, instead she just shows us the proofs on how to get the formulas that are in textbook. Everything we learn comes from the textbook because she does not teach the material. No way to prepare for exams because you only have a textbook, and the final exam was nothing like previous tests and was absurdly hard.
Dr. Lassiter is very kind, and she is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. The lectures are "student-led" in the sense that you are expected to participate in solving problems. She is more than willing to slow down or explain a problem more in depth as long as you ask, and she is a fair/lenient grader.
