Really nice, helpful and has good notes. You can tell she's a little nervous sometimes and her french accent is difficult to understand at first, but she knows her stuff. She's very young but I think that helps because students can relate to her.
Good teacher. Nothing particularly impressive about her class, though she always taught what we needed to know.
She was sweet and helpful. Good at explaining like one on one.But if a student asked her infront of the whole class, she gets nervous BUT knows her stuff but can't answer because of her nervousness.Quite enthusiastic, for a chem class.Examples were easy, then test came along and there were no similiar problems from notes. That's Chemistry for you!
She was awesome. She teaches everything you need to know. Tests can be a little challenging but just study the notes and do practice problems. She really wants you to succeed. She is always there for extra help - use it. She is very approachable. She can get nervous sometimes but that's not a bad thing =) She's young so she gets students better
I enjoyed her class. Yes she can get a little nervous, but she's pretty new. Needs to work the CLS system better if she intends to keep using it. Has a tendency to talk out of nervousness... doesn't know that 20 seconds of silence is ok. I recommend her class.
She is an amazing prof. Very very approachable, and really wants her students to succeed.
Dr.Lefebvre is an awesome prof!I had her for a spring class and she made the class super enjoyable. She really cares for her students and tries her best to help you understand the material. Her nervousness makes her a little difficult to understand but nonetheless, she knows her stuff and tests are fair though a hard marker. Highly recommended!
She is really awesome!Always smiling. She is always in her office. So, very approachable. I recommend you taking chem 203 with her.
Her accent needs a little getting used to. Otherwise she's a very nice prof and is quite organized. However, this course requires that you work. I'd recommend her though.
Really nice prof. She is still pretty new at teaching, but her confidence is improving and she is getting better at having control of the class. Very approachable.
She's so fun to play with, really friendly, super hot. Tries her best for the students but her sexiness makes her hard to understand at time
She tries hard, but has little control over the class. She's still new and tends to stop teaching to wait for everyone to shut up. Her accent is tolerable, but she sounds like she is on the verge of crying 24/7. Otherwise she's pretty average.
She was not approachable at all!
This teacher did not suite me. She usually ignores people that have questions. Her accent was a little hard to understand or maybe she was nervous.
Accent takes some getting used to but after the first week, there are no problems. The content of the course is VERY SIMPLE. About 70-80% of it is review from Chem 30. Due to this, I can't comment on how helpful she is because I never went to her. Her powerpoints are good and you will do well on the exam even if you don't have a textbook.
sometimes it was hard to get over her accent, because it is a very harsh french accent. Also, I took it early in the morning, so i often fell asleep.
Very hard to understand, and sounds like shes about to cry. Her lectures are insanely boring, so if you're going to skip class JUST READ THE TEXTBOOK. The course is like a review of chem 30, but don't underestimate it.
She's a good professor. She helps to clarify important points and I didn't find her accent hard to understand at all.
Shocked to see how many negative comments there are regarding her teaching! She is a phenomenal instructor, one of the best I've had in>6 yrs of university.I did not find her hard to understand whatsoever, slides are organized, informative & correspond well with the text- good to study from.CHEM material is difficult but she teaches it with enthusiasm.
She doesnt respond to emails, so email other profs. If u ask her to go over something in class she wont. Its difficult to understand her with her accent. She knows whats shes talking about but shes lazy, and its proven on her pp slides. Read the textbook and you will be fine, overall shes pretty nice, and her notes are a bit helpful.
Dr. Lefebvre was a great professor! I really enjoyed her classes and thought her notes were organized. She explained things very well and I felt that she was helpful when I had questions. I would recommend taking Chem with her for sure!
She is good! But is hard to understand at times with her accent. She is really helpful though, if you make use of her office hours. She does not go over the hard questions in class but will cover the concepts required for the exams so for term tests do work with txtbk examples.
She is very boring. Her voice is annoying. She teaches very very very very slowly. Nice though.
So... boring... I'd not recommend her but she is the only decent Chem teacher at UofC. Good luck :s
Out of all the chemistry profs she is easily the best one, teaches the course nice and slowly so you will never get lost which in turn means less use of the textbook. I would definitely recommend her if you are not that great at teaching yourself and need a good prof to help you.
Her notes are some of the best I've seen. She is a clear lecturer and puts everything you need to know in her notes making them easy to study from. She is very kind and helpful outside of class hours if you ever need help. One of the best chem profs at U of C.
There is no reason anyone should not like her. She goes over material carefully, answers questions (to the best of her ability), is great 1 on 1, and makes morning classes a little better because she's good looking. Study her notes and you'll get an A
She has a very annoying shaky voice, however she is very good at getting the point across. Very organized and sticks to the slide. She will prepare you very well for the final.
She is the best professor out there. She is sweet, kind, french (her accent is so cool) and very clear on every point. If you attend her lectures and listen to her, you are guaranteed 80%. She breaks down complex topics so well that there is no way you would not understand her. Study her notes and be quiet during lectures so you get an A
She's very good at explaining things except her accent takes some getting used to. By the end of the first week you'll have no problem understanding her though. If you study her slides and go to the lectures, you will succeed.
AWESOME! I took high school chem 8 years ago (& barely passed)& didn't remember anything. She is excellent at explaining & very helpful after class if you see her. Notes are crystal clear. Gives lots of practice questions for exams. Does fun Demos. Do your homework, be quiet in class and you will get an A no problem!
I would not recommend to take any of her courses.
Lecturing skills and notes are very good. She has an accent but is understandable. Provides many good practice examples. Gives lots of good pointers and clarifies upcoming labs and tutorial assignments. Medium to high use of textbook.
Great prof, had her for 201 and 203. Very friendly and helpful, I would definitely recommend her. Text book wasn't really that great, her notes had everything one needed to know; however, you MUST practice (made the mistake of not practicing in 203 and got KILLED in the final).
I had her for my 203 in the spring. She was simply helpful and approachable. Her notes cover everything, however, you still need to practice! The exams were ok, yet harder than fall and winter ones
Hard to get used to her accent, but notes are helpful and congruent with the text book. She explains everything really well and writes fair midterms.
She is the best prof I ever had. One of the best in the entire Chem dept for junior level courses. Compare to what my friends tell about their profs, she is very helpful and one of the best.
She is amazing!! I love her as a professor, her lecture notes are perfect for all learning styles!!
Awesome Prof! She's really helpful and knows her chemistry! I would recommend going to all the lectures and paying attention, she teaches everything on the exams will clarity and relevance. Very good notes and very good rapport with the students.
Amazing prof, literally the best chemistry teacher ive ever seen or had, teaches with amazing clarity, detail and depth. Will make sure you understand all concepts, Nothing but positive things to say about her, very hard to find professors like her at university, take her class, you wont regret it!
took this class in the spring term (condensed). i'm not in science so this was an elective for me. julie did a great job explaining anything i was unclear on, but she does require a fair amount of effort by the student to figuring out the answers to questions first. overall, great teacher.
Great prof - would take a class with her again. Really good notes, but you have to go to class to get them. Super nice and really good at explaining everything. Very helpful in her office hours as well.
She's good.
She's good. Her notes are good too. Class is mandatory but she has a squeaky voice that is sometimes annoying. Really helpful in her office hours, however final and midterms were brutal
Julie explains all of the concepts very clearly, and gives great notes. Like any science course, you have to practice to do well, but her clarity makes the course easier to withstand. The only negative thing I have to say about her, is that I found her a bit naggy at times. She likes to remind us how we should "know this by now."
Notes are neat and organized but her quizzes/midterm/finals are challenging. Their mostly written. The lab and CTD's can be a challenge but peers and TAs are helpful. Don't slack off like me, I got a B, if you do the review questions (and understand them(, you'll manage to get an A-!
It was a treat to have a prof like Julie. She provided backbones to her notes ahead of time, and was very helpful with the labs, and even made an appearance every week to check on things in lab. Her demos were awesome, and her exams were fair but really test your knowledge of chemistry.
She is an enthusiastic teacher. She is focused on student success and held review classes outside of normal lectures. She provides a lot of demonstrations (e.g. thermite reaction) Her tests are challenging and require critical thinking.
She is very detailed in teaching and her notes are really really helpful. She tells you exactly what you need to know when it comes to labs and tutorials. Great prof! LOVE HER.
Having Julie as a prof is a breath of fresh air. Her notes are clear and organized. Her exams are challenging, but she is straight forward with what you need to know. I think all students can appreciate an organized prof! Definitely try to get her, if you can!
Loved her! She was always enthusiastic and gave tips for the labs and tutorials. Her lectures were always organized and she always knew what she was talking about. The examples were fair and helpful. But she was fantastic!
Enthusiastic and passionate! Great professor, highly recommend.
Julie is amazing. She is clear at explaining concepts, her notes are short but incredibly detailed, and she is very enthusiastic and willing to help. In addition, she's always willing to see students after class and she visits labs to help out with calculations. Favourite prof by a mile. Go to lecture and you'll ace the class.
Detailed notes. She works at a pace that allows you to write down everything she does. Very clear with concepts, and answers questions in a concise manner. Labs are a bit on the useless side. Very bubbly and brightens up the room with positivity. Clearly passionate about chemistry and strives to make material worth while. All around, great prof.
Dr. Lefebvre was fantastic and easily my favourite professor this year! Her test are different and require critical thinking but she is very fair with the marking. She really focusses on concepts and logical reasoning which is how Chemistry should be taught. Labs were more reasonable. She encourages questions and really made me love Chemistry!
AMAZING professor! Probably the best prof I had for my entire first year. It is not an easy course, but she is always willing to help with questions and is very clear in lecture. The countless demos kept class interesting too.
Awesome Prof! Honestly, I can't say enough about her concise teaching style. Focuses on the basics and then teaches you how to apply that knowledge to work through any related problem. Lots of demos, lots of practice exams, great in class review sessions, and office hours are very plentiful. Get this prof if you want to kill these courses!!!
Julie is the best professor at the university. Not only is she nice on the eyes ;) she is extremely wise in all she speaks. Her brilliance shines through her lecture notes and I wouldn't mind a one on one review anytime. Very smart woman!!!!
I have never enjoyed chem so much! shes a wonderful teacher. and really passionate
She is an amazing prof, makes chem so clear and has great lecture slides.
She seriously needs to chill out. WAAY to intense about people making any noise in her class. Plus she never gives enough time for TOPHAT questions. If you wanna do well on her TOPHAT stuff you have to answer instantly.
She's awful unless you like being treated like you're in kinergarten. She doesn't write notes in class or provide them online, in class you are put into groups and expected to learn concepts on your own. She doesn't answer questions clearly and does not teach concepts in time for you to use them in the labs.
Amazing and excellent prof. Her French accent did not infringe upon her English, and it made it more easy to listen to. She is a hard prof, goes fast, and has a lot of Top Hat questions. She has high expectations for her students. Clear slides, excellent answering questions, great format, and available for help. Would recommend.
Honestly, I don't understand the great reviews about this professor. Shes okay professor at best. Stickler for attendance (incomplete notes online to be done in class, mandatory tutorials). Has very little control over the classroom. First years will drive you crazy if you're Year 3+. Easy stuff, but workload is high. Don't recommend as an option.
I found her amazing. She always was there to help you if you needed it. Her lectures were informative. Not a huge fan of the amount of "teamwork" we did at the beginning of the semester, though that stopped closer to the end. She would hold out of class review sessions before major tests which helped A LOT. Highly, highly recommend.
Dr. Lefebvre is a good professor, but will not proceed with lectures when there is any form of chatter, so it seems like a lot of time is wasted waiting for people to be quiet. While her lecture in class are very clear, she only posts very incomplete notes online which can be troublesome if you miss a class.
Really enjoyed her class, The lab portion can be pretty hard since there is a lot of knowledge your expected to have from high school chem. If you find the material interesting then you should be fine.
She cant stand irresponsibility, attendance is a must (to fill in note templates) and lectures grind to a halt when people talk when they're not supposed to. But she really goes the extra mile to make lectures engaging. Explains concepts clearly and really wants students to succeed. She is kind when you seek help. Shes exactly what a prof should be
Very clear and helpful lectures but attendance is important if you want to do well. Do not hesitate to attend her office hours as they are very helpful. At the end of the semester if you do poorly on exams, it pays off participating in Tophat and doing well on the labs. The course is very tough and requires a lot of work and previous knowledge.
Although the course is not easy, if you take Julie she will prepare you the best relative to the other teachers. He notes are very clear!!
Dr. Lefebvre is a great professor. Her lectures are really interesting and never boring. Super clear and detailed notes - great for studying! Must attend class to fill in lecture templates. Very helpful and answers emails quickly. Always willing to help and is very friendly. Does everything to make sure you to do really well if you show the effort!
Dr. Lefebvre is an awesome professor! Super clear and provides amazing notes! (great for studying). Must attend each lecture to fill out lecture templates for notes though! Makes the lectures interesting and engaging and is very well prepared. Answers emails quick and is willing to help you do really well if you are willing to put in the effort.
She was very helpful. She Wrote out the lecture slides slowly during the lectures so it was easy to follow along. She put everything in a context that was easy to understand. The tests were easy if you studied and did all of the practice tests available.
Julie was amazing! Her teaching style is so clear and follows in a way that ties everything together. She is the one prof I have who goes through the notes that you can actually write down, versus many profs who just show a slide with small fill in the blanks. I learned so much in both 201 and 203 and I am so grateful that Julie was my prof!
Great girl, I love her with all my heart. She made chemistry so interesting and fun, she's super cute!
Dr Lefebvre is my favourite professor at the U of C, and chem isn't even my major. She is lovely, and will do everything in her power to help you succeed (if you put in the effort!) I felt taking 213 rather than 203 allowed us to have a better understanding of Chem, and felt we students were valued. I will greatly miss having class with her.
Greatest chem professor ever. Explains the main concepts clearly and has plenty of examples on major concepts (do these or get get wrecked in the final). Great proff ,really nice and answers any questions clearly. Ps. Don't talk in class , she will actually stop the lecture and wait for you to stop, this is a good thing in my opinion.
Shes a good prof overall. Her notes are very organized and presented in a simple manner. Shes clearly very knowledgeable and a great prof. But when I went to her office hours she came off a little bit rude, but whatever. 201 and 203 are great if you take them with her. Put in the work and you'll do great.
she is very rude and is not helpful during office hours. Class attendance is mandatory. Gives too much homework and goes too fast
she was really nice and enthusiastic but not very organized. the d2l shelf was horrendous to try and find anything and the lectures were every where.
Always enthusiastic and knew the material very well. I loved how we got to figure things out ourselves through demonstrations and group work rather than just being told everything. Very friendly and approachable as well.
Probably my favourite first year prof. Clearly understands and appreciates the content. Gives lots of in class examples and makes class interactive and fun with relevant demonstrations and practice tophat exam-like questions. Exams are taken straight from lecture content and doesn't post notes on D2L. Super approachable and friendly!
Awesome lecturer, clearly understands the field as well as problems student usually have. Lectures are interesting, lots of tophat questions, labs are fairly straightforward, but lots of math : and she expects you to remember a lot of material from Chemistry 30. Wish she taught more than first year chemistry, I'd for sure take her classes.
Very helpful for answering questions and always flexible when making appointments. Lots of demonstrations and activities in class really helped clarify the material. She premade templates to fill in during class so you knew what to expect. Made the material very clear and easy to understand so I didn't need to open my textbook all semester.
Passionate and kind chemistry professor who explains concepts clearly and thoroughly. She's always willing to take questions in lectures from students who are unsure of a concept and can explain things in a whole new way. Often got us into group discussions for us to discover new concepts on our own before going through it with us which was neat.
The course is structured more around figuring things out yourself so don't expect to learn much from the lecture itself.
The content is hard because it is essentially getting you to not only understand the content, but to also use that knowledge and figure things out for yourself, but the prof is amazing at explaining and demonstrating(there were about 5 in lecture explosions throughout the term) although sometimes I felt she was a little fast
Very condescending. Is way too serious. Not helpful in office hours. Very sarcastic.
She always encourages you to work within a group, and discuss everything ourselves. Lots of demonstrations, and figuring out material ourselves before she explained it. Her lecture templates are very helpful for studying, but if you skip class she doesn't post them online afterwards. Loved the fact that she gave bonus points in all her tests.
Definitely take this class if you can instead of 201. From what I've heard, the 201 professors are almost all terrible. While 211 is supposed to be harder, it's actually not that bad. Julie is a fantastic lecturer and manages to make chemistry make sense. Her tests are also all very fair, and the labs/CTDs are actually pretty fun!
Chemistry 211 and 213 easy having Julie as a professor. She is clear on what she is teaching you and is really great at explaining the topic. She knows most of us by name since the classes are smaller than the Chem 201/203 classes and it makes it easier to talk or access her out of class time. Julie is always ready to answer any questions we have.
Doesn't post lecture notes. Barely learn anything in lectures, as she basically rambles the whole time and expects you to know it already. Her testing is terrible. All her tests and exams are just long worksheets, where you have to watch an in-class experiment, take observations and answer questions based on your observations. Lots of TopHat.
213 and 211 with julie is very interactive and tophat heavy. Overall she was a great prof and I enjoyed her teaching but she doesnt post lecture notes so GO TO CLASS! shes very approachable and willing to ensure that her students succeed, but the format of the test are very different than most. Easy to mess up, easy to get partial marks too.
The best prof I had first year! You have to go to class because she doesn't post lecture notes online, but she was very clear in explaining material and she was ALWAYS willing to help outside of class.
Very happy, her CHEM 211/213 courses were by far my favourite. I found her course very easy. Clear lectures, marks based on thought process (more marks than a straight 0), and fun demonstrations. The assignments/tests are similar formats and provides past exams. Very approachable and kind. TopHat expected to get things wrong but still expect 80-90%
A professor who really cares about your education, and is a great lecturer, she manages to make difficult concepts seem simple. If you study and do the CTDS and labs properly you will remember the content beyond just the semester
Julie was the worst prof I had in my first year. Her tests were demonstrations that you had to write about. Very inaccurate way of testing, extremely stressful. I have no idea why she has any good reviews. A guy in my physics lab in the winter sem was talking about his bad chem prof that turned out to be Julie. AVOID!!!!!!!!!
Amazing prof, her notes are clear and cover everything (never had to use the textbook) but she doesn't post completed notes online so come to lecture. Exams are fair if you study, labs are work-intensive but will teach you important skills. She is very approachable and respectful towards students, so come to her office hours if you're confused.
The worst professor I have ever had in my four years of university. She rambles a lot. Doesn't answer emails. Is not helpful during office hours. Very rude and condescending. Her exams are awful and completely unfair. Avoid.
Depending on the person, you might not like her teaching and examination style. I thought it was different but I enjoyed it. For in-class assignments and tests, an experiment is performed and we have to answer questions based on our observations/analysis. She doesn't post lecture notes on D2L so attendance is mandatory. Course wasn't too difficult.
Attending class was pretty much mandatory since none of the slides were posted online. She did a good job at giving a clear and thorough explanation of the material. The midterm as well as a few in class tests were written. The test gradings were reasonably harsh.
Julie is a great professor. Her lectures are very easy to understand and answers questions appropriately. She gets back within the next day for most emails. She truly does care about her students. With a short discussion, she will tell you directly what you need to do to succeed in her class.
She's a great professor. I personally love the way CHEM 211/213 are organized with the applicational side of it being super interesting. Tests are often started with an experimental demonstration upon which good observations must be taken to answer up to 75% of all of the exam questions. But it makes the class way more interesting than 201/203.
Lefebvre is very sweet and approachable. Her lecture slides are easy to follow and she covers most of the key material. The textbook isn't mandatory for this course but it's useful in going over information. Going online due to the pandemic was challenging but her lecture quality was still great and material was still covered. Would recommend.
She's a good prof who cares, and wants her students to understand and succeed. Her style of in-class assignment and exam is really different, demos and critical thinking emphasized, but I liked it. Also she treats her students like people and is understanding if you miss a lab or need a deadline extended. She did well teaching online during covid
Lefebvre was okay, she would get easily aggravated if people would murmur or start packing up 30 seconds before the class was over. Her lectures always helped to answer questions, but it never felt like there was structure and I honestly don't even remember anything I learned in the whole course. Overall, not great but not bad either.
Dr. Lefebvre is GREAT! Her courses made my first year worthwhile because they emphasized critical thinking and problem solving rather than unnecessary busy work. Her tests are very reasonable if you study well, and if you go to class you won't need the textbook. It's so sad that CHEM211/213 isn't happening anymore, these courses were amazing :(
Online is not her best medium to be honest. Just not really communicating well over the internet, theres not many examples given, no practice for midterms.
Not a fan. Online medium was not the best, frequent interruptions during delivery online. I took this class and I found the tests to be somewhat unfair. Not much practice that was useful when writing tests and delivery in lectures were not my favorite
she was okay!! very confusing at times and her internet was always cutting out or very unstable.. I also attended the other lecture hosted by the other prof and i found he went into much more detail and examples than julie.
Keep in mind this is through an online learning. Even though this was her first year doing online it certainly was not planned out great. Her connection was unstable during lectures and her quality of microphone seemed way worse than any of my other profs. Lectures were confusing, if you have her for online just look at someone elses lectures.
Dr. Lefebvre is a very sweet person, but I found it difficult to receive help from her. She did not respond to any of the emails I sent her with questions/concerns going into the final, which was very disappointing. She does her best to make sure everyone understands the content, but from my experience is not easy to reach outside of class.
Dr. Lefebvre is very sweet and caring. Her notes are very detailed and lay things out well, however make sure to go to her lectures and pay attention, as she doesn't usually post the completed notes after. She is very helpful answering questions during and after her lectures.
I have previously learnt all the material that was taught in CHEM 203 in Gr.12 and I did well before, but she just made it more complicated and hard to understand for no reason. Her lectures do not relate to the assignments in class, and her notes are not organized. Maybe it is because we are online, but I wouldn't recommend her as a professor.
Nice prof which decent lectures, but this class was my lowest grade of my entire education. The TAs were GOD AWFUL, for example, if they even answered emails they were way past the due date or read "I don't know". There is zero way to get any help. I spent hours on labs and still got Cs. The final was so hard and so frustrating. HATED THIS CLASS!
The lectures were fine for this class. It was all the other components that I found difficult because there were too many. The tests and check-in quizzes were difficult because of the wording the professor used for them. They were typically multi-select questions which made it more difficult than needed especially for the word questions.
This class was alright, Dr. Lefebvre is really nice and supportive but sometimes I found the lectures to be unstructured and rushed. The tests were okay, I found some of the questions to be unclear. The TA's were not great, feedback was super unclear and made no sense. My lab TA seemed to not know what they were talking about.
She had taught the bare minimum in lectures and gave much more complex questions during check-ins and tests. I had used my grade 12 notes more than hers as her notes were messy. She never responds to emails and expects you to just post your questions on Piazza. She makes easy topics much too complicated for no reason.
A fine professor and lectures were good, the rest of the class was terrible. The TA's weren't good at all and were confusing at best. The tutorials were unorganized and essentially useless. The tests were extremely difficult and were nothing like the quizzes or labs. I would strongly recommend taking this at a different university, chem sucks here.
Take chemistry at another university.
Lectures were brief and extremely fast-paced. Quizzes and tests were not reflective of the lecture content and required an understanding of the subject matter not provided by the lectures. Emails were almost never responded to. Only 3 days provided to finish lab reports which were typically 12+ pages. D2L page was poorly laid out and confusing.
Her workshops were very fun and engaging and helped solidify what was learned in the online lectures. The labs were interesting, but once you got into the lab it just became "we have to finish before this time or else we'll get a low mark" kind of vibe, even if it wasn't true.
Dr. L's lectures are paced very well - not too fast that no one understands, but not slow enough that we all fall asleep. Very responsive to questions in class, too. If you have great background in CHEM, this course is basically Grade 12 revisited. Nothing too special other than being an amazing lecturer to have.
In the tutorials, Dr. Lefebvre was very helpful and was good with communicating with students. The exams were fair and the grading was also fairly lenient given the circumstances. Her classes were fun to attend, and were by no means a burden. Hope to take more courses with her in the future.
This course is very tough and I know almost nobody who was not constantly worried about their grades throughout. She is a decent lecturer but I found it difficult to concentrate during 1.25 hr lectures unless there were TopHat questions. The midterm was easier than the final, and you don't get your wrapup assgn grade before the final which sucks.
Dr Lefebvre's classes were really solid and made me feel prepared when it came to quizzes and tests. If you have high school chem this class is a breeze; it's maybe just a little more in depth version of chem 30. The only thing that was a con was that she didn't post any of her completed lecture notes which would have been really helpful
After taking 201 in the fall, this class was very refreshing. Dr. Lefebvre was very welcoming and kind when asked any questions; you can tell she really wants you to succeed. The exams and check-ins are very tricky although the material covered is basically highschool chem in more detail. Plenty practice questions were available. Not an easy class.
Dr. Lefebvre was a good prof overall, but the contents of Chem 203 were less than desirable. There were a lot of assignments and most of them were very tricky. The midterm exam was okay but the final was dreadful. Overall, the contents were interesting and she was a good teacher, but the assignments were so bad.
She's not a bad professor at all and it's clear she wants her students to succeed. Pretty accessible, answers student questions. But her tests are difficult, and you need to pass the midterm+final to pass the course. Kind of lulls you into a false sense of security with the practice tests because they're much easier than the actual assessment.
Dr. L was a good teacher and very nice and caring. She explained things well. However, the tests were extremely difficult (final avg 57%) and it's really hard to get a good grade honestly. Labs were also unnecessarily hard and marked so difficultly.
Lectures were good and really easy to learn from. She made sure to explain things and answer questions. Labs in this class are much harder than Chem 201, especially grading wise. Tests are harder but not impossible if you study.
I have had bad experiences with other general CHEM profs, but Lefebvre was a great general chem prof, probably the best at the UofC chem department. Although, you do have to try and be at every lecture or borrow notes from a friend as she does not upload her completed notes. Overall a very tough course but made bearable thanks to Lefebvre.
Dr. Lefebvre is a good prof. Her lectures are easy to follow and she explains things well. However, the labs and write-ups are long and time consuming. The tests were also hard and you have to be sure to pay attention to tricks. She is nice and friendly, but the course was not that great.
Out of all the first year engineering courses, Dr. Lefebvre had the best approach with the new "active learning" format of teaching. I believe I would have learned a lot from her course if I wasn't so burned out.
Great at explaining concepts and is very helpful if you actually ask for help.
ok prof. could be much better. The course was terrible and not well made. Had zero lectures and had to learn everything online yet payed the same tuition?!? Absolute joke
I struggled with this class. Compared to 201 this class was awful. Labs took 5 hours a week and no way to get help as my TA was useless and profs didn't know about labs(or care). Tutorials also were tricky especially as you couldn't fall behind at all because its basically a biweekly quiz, so that was a source of stress that brought my grade down.
Has no proper office hours up on d2l while all other instructors teaching this course do. Emailed 5 times to see when office hours were held and emailed another time about a question I had. NO RESPONSE. Super unprofessional and does not care whatsoever, never seen this level of ignorance before... we are literally paying for these classes.
get this woman out of the classroom she can not teach to save her life. lectures were incredibly confusing, somehow she wrote so much but said nothing. i leanred this entire class through the textbooks as her notes had no information. id rather drop the class then have to deal with her again
So nice and awesome!
Get ready to get absolutely cooked, if not roasted ppl :(
Julie is an amazing professor, if you put in the effort you can do really well in this course. Always willing to answer questions after class, is extremely knowledgeable, and relates the content to real world examples to make it more engaging. The only downside is those tutorials, if you can, try and get them later in the week for more study time.
She is a great prof only issues is she is very bad at responding to emails and there was clear mistake on midterm but mark did not change as she did not respond to my email whatsoever. Also booked office hours but never committed to a time with me even after sending many follow up emails 2-3 weeks before the exam!!!!!
She is super kind and knowledgeable, but I found the lecture content extremely disorganized and difficult to follow, and the notes messy.
She was not reachable after class, never answered emails, and promised to post her office hours since the beginning of the semester (never did). I've never seen this level of ignorance towards students before. Despite numerous follow-ups, students were never able to see her in office hours. Don't recommend at all.
dr. lefebvre is a really good instructor. not sure why some of her reviews don't reflect this. she is very knowledgeable in chemistry and delivers content in a way that is easy to understand. i really enjoyed the way she structured her lectures and lecture notes. she is also very sweet and great at providing resources for students to succeed.
Julie is a really wonderful person and her class was very informative. Her notes were super helpful for the tutorials and she would clear up a lot of questions about topics in lecture. One of the best chem 203 profs there is.
