A Goof, does not respond to emails, horrible notes, head in the sand.
Lecture notes have driven me to the belief that uni.'s a waste of ink and paper.
Had here as TA and prof very helpful
Killer final exam... hmm... boring lectures.. enough said
somewhat good notes, hard exams, expects us to memorize all the equations
had her as a TA and prof. resourceful and responsible prof.
She's like the soldier in the movie soldier . Otherwise I love her notes!
Good explainations, good notes
The course itself is hard and her mundane lecture makes it worst. Just do ur self a favor and go to Prof Steve Holdcroft instead, Lots of experiment, explosions and funny stories.
hot hair style. like her eloquent voice. but her notes, as someone had said, wasted paper and ink.
informative notes and lectures. had her for my tutorial...very responsible and resourceful...as somebody already mentioned.
Not such a cool course as I had anticipated...I regret taking it cuz her voice has a certain magic sleeping property...
She is a very good prof. She expalins very clearly and the notes she provides a great help. You dont have to speed write in lecture. Second half of course is easier. Dont let her scare you in the beginning when she says this is a very tough course.
much better than holdcroft. great notes, explains things very clearly, fair exam questions. holds review sessions on her own time. makes chemistry comprehensible!

great notes, too many pages though. speaks too softly, students tend to talk in her lectures, therefore, makes it hard to concentrate. so, try to find a seat at the front. although the lectures are boring, they are very useful. so, try to stay awake!
if you can manage to maintain focus the entire class, all to you, well worth it if you can. Notes and lectures really helpful but dont rely solely on notes, must read text too. Shes one of the few profs that actually care how thier students do
Her notes are much more better than other chem profs. The only problem is that her experiments can be unappealing.
Quite a tricky courses...but awesome prof. If you listen to her lecture 100%, you would have at least B for reward. Go over some old exams...VERY HELPFUL...REMEMBER!!!!ATTENT HER SUPERTUTORIAL...SO IMPORTANT!!!
Wrote a whole new chem textbook by herself - Amazing notes + lectures! Extremly good at making stuff so very well organized and so understandable, even though the course content is just too much.
Great Prof!!!! Explained nice and clear, especially the notes were well written. BUt have to say that there was too much information in this course!!! U have to follow it very tight!
very helpfull
excellent, clear - makes chemistry exciting, for real. approchable and interesting. one of the best profs i've had in too many years up here.
An ethusiastic, well-organized, *stylish* prof. Her lectures are informative and full of real-life examples, making the course material greatly applicable. She's very personable and willing to assist her students.
Very very good. Her notes are very clear and concise - much better than the text book. Tests are easy if you pay attention to her lectures. Truly cares for her students.
WICKED TEACHER...HARD COURSE. AND I'M SPENT.
Great lectures and notes. Very approachabble. Fair exams. Great prof
she is a great prof. notes and lectures are clear. midterms and finals r fair.
very hard on second midterm...note + lecture were useless for it
I wish I had her for all of Chem 121 instead of Holdcroft! She was amazing, her notes were excellent, and one of the only reasons that I did well in the course at all
very helpful in the lab. take a course with her in the fall. her halloween costume is great. she was boring for the latter half of chem121 but electron orbitals aren't very exciting to begin with...
Best professor I have ever come across, she's so approachable, easy to talk to and very outgoing. Quizzes are a little hard, but if u study, it's very doable. Good Luck.
Just had the exam today...very fair. As long as your understand the lab manual and the concepts from each lab, the final shouldn't be a problem. Pay attention to quiz questions...similar ones on the exam.
Very Fair. Very Helpful. Funny, up beat, wants to get out of the lab as fast as you do. hahahaha
Workload: 2MT (MC), Final (MC), Capa. Lecture notes are online and tests are based off textbook. She is very specific as to what you need to know. Course is scaled. [~]
all the lab done in 7 weeks. It was a bit stressful...but Dr.Lunniss is the best. She's very friendly, approachable, and very helpful. Explains materials very well, and sometimes gave extra time because the lab was too long (waiting for equipments). Yup. Best prof I've ever met so far. Wish all the profs were like her...
wow she was awsome. so helpful and so NOT intimidating. Shes totally like. . .FOR the students.
Wicked Prof...wants you to get a good mark...I had her for three differnt classes and actually spent halloween night with her and her kids one time...Overall great person and prof!
Pretty good prof, she's very nice, does lots of experiments in class and prepares very detailed and clear notes. Her exams are fair.
chem 121 lab portion. Very approachable and understanding prof. My most favorite prof in sfu.
She was the best prof.. she was like a highschool teacher, easy to talk to and very fun. She talks about her kids and her life if you get to know her. She helps you alot if you have problems. Overall the best prof so far for chem, take a course with her if you can!
Easy prof and very helpful.. her exams are from the loncapa assignments and her notes.. dont really need to study the textbook just use it for extra practice.. do lots of practice from the end of the chapters!
one of the best profs i have had so far. she is very good at teaching and explains concepts very well.
Excellent professor, I was getting 50-60% on the 2 midterms, still finished with an A in the class, very fair exams and homework.
THE BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD! Very nice, helpful and down-to-earth. Reminds me of high school. Tests are difficult but fair. Homework is fair but time consuming. SHE IS SO NICE! Scaling is excellent!
Good notes, easy to understand and helpful.
well, it's a very difficult course with a very nice and helpful prof. The class average was like around 50%. Don't expect that u don't have to pout effort otherwise u will panic on the final. btw, final is very difficult.
Really Good Prof, probably one of the best teachers I have had! Notes are very well presented and easy to follow. Lectures were always clear, and interesting too!!!
wow. Luniss is the best chem proff in SFU. amazing amazing notes and easy midterms and final. (straight out of notes). just study and clear concepts with her and you will be fine. you will go to heaven :D
totally awesome prof! the best i've ever had at sfu. i hate chem a little less because of her :)
awesome prof!!
Excellent notes. Just make sure you go to class to fill in what she gives you. If she forgets to post them she'll post completed notes online. Nice prof who really cares about the success of her students. Exams are fair.
omg. cannot get over how great lunniss is. excellent notes, very clear in class, actually goes through examples to help you understand and is just overall so nice and helpful. take chem with lunniss and you'll be golden
She's a very nice prof, good notes and the many interesting demos...the course seemed a bit rushed though, maybe because of the huge amount of material all crammed together and she rushed her notes too sometimes. I found the final brutal, the mc part was extremely tricky and tough, otherwise it wasnt too bad. MTs were fair.
Overall, a good prof. Course was a bit rushed though, and she'd sometimes rush through her slides. Course is challenging overall, but go over questions at the end of each chapter of the textbook and you should be good.
She's a sweetheart! Very very friendly lab instructor and not stern at all, unlike others that I have had. Lab tests are a bit hard though.
She is so nice and approachable and overall just a fun prof. Very easy going with students, but lab quizzes and exams were so hard.
Love this prof! She, including the TA's, really make sure you understand what's going on. I didn't even read pre lab once and just asking for clarification whenever I needed it was all the help the allowed me to succeed. The test, quizzes, and exams are relatively challenging but if you know the material it's not bad. Walsby + Lunniss.. solid duo!
Good prof. Midterms were a bit challenging. But the practical exam was an easy 100%
i just dont understand why she is not a full time proff. she is the best one i have had at sfu.fiar midterms and although the final was a bit tricky, i still managed to do well.
She is pretty nice. But her tests are so messed up, she loves memorizing. She made us memorize the periodic table. I wouldnt recommend her.
Awesome teacher. Loves to do demos.
Confusing grading style for lab section.
Dr. Lunniss is really sweet! Her prelab lectures are nice and short AND they help you with the lab report if you didn't understand something from the LONCAPA. Sometimes the LONCAPA assignments were a pain so don't leave those last minute, final exam was pretty much the exact same as the prelab.
She is the reason why I love chem labs. yes, they can be stressful at times, but she is always there to help, not to criticize. She is so approachable, and she is not out there to make sure that you all get a low mark, but she really pushes us to the best of our ability. I honestly was so satisfied with this class. Hands down best class this sem.
Unclear Grading style and always give low credit for ambiguous reason. Sometimes repeats nonsense to students.
A super sweet person, she was always more than willing to answer any of my questions no matter how dumb. She didn't always give the exact answer, but put me on track to find it myself, which was great. Really nice atmosphere in this class. But do be ready for pop quizzes.
Lunniss is a great lab instructor, she is very approachable and really does want her students to understand the material. My TA was a hot mess, so I often went to Julie if I needed to ask a question and got As on most of the lab reports. The labs often do have pop quizzes with a very short time limit, so doing the LONCAPA assignments is a must.
Julie is a very sweet individual and very accessible outside of lab for help. You can always feel free to ask her questions anytime, if the TAs don't know anything. Make sure to stay on top of LONCAPA as most of the lab reports are similar to those questions. You also switch partners a fair bit.
Julie has been my favorite professor since I've been at SFU, she is so sweet, and engaged with her students. I often times skip going to the TA's and went straight to Julie as she was able to guide you towards the correct answer. I thoroughly enjoyed the labs with Julie.
ok, so shes a pretty nice person, but she doesnt give you anything outside LonCAPA to prep. And for labs 5,7,8,9 the stuff doesnt even relate to what's taught in 122. Shes approachable for help, but it isnt worth taking with her. I would reccomend taking 126 with James Zhou because he apparently prepares students more for labs, and its relatable.
Julie was a really good lab instructor. She is great at leading students to the answers without giving them directly. I frequently went to office hours and found them very helpful. The labs are well thought out and fairly marked. She is kind and understanding but not a pushover.
Julie Lunniss was an excellent lab prof. I was never great at lab but I ended up getting a decent mark in her class. Very informative and nice when you ask for help. Practical exam was easy as heck and very manageable to get perfect on. Final was a little harder but if you study the lab manual you shouldn't struggle too much
So kind and caring! Julie is a true teacher at heart. Great at leading students to answers and was very clear. Lab was the best part of 121, an otherwise extremely difficult course.
Gives really great explanations, I asked a lot of questions and she always was ready and happy to answer them! Really sweet human overall, even though she throws pop quizzes at you
Julie is such a sweetheart. Throughout the labs she is more than happy to help you work through any questions you have. She teaches you to problem solve instead of just giving you the answer. She's super friendly and obviously cares a lot about her students. She made my first year CHEM 121 and CHEM 126 labs way less stressful and more fun!
Dr. Lunniss made the monotony of general chemistry so much more bearable. She gives good feedback after each lab report and does an excellent job of explaining concepts. Definitely the best chemistry prof I've had so far. Would highly recommend!
Julie is an excellent lab instructor! She is definitely passionate about chemistry and is always willing to help all students in class and outside of class.
Julie is probably one of the sweetest, most kind, and caring human beings on the planet. She is incredibly patient and understanding of her students. The labs are easy to prepare for and the only real way to lose marks is by having small math mistakes throughout your lab reports.
Pop quizzes where more about memorizing and not about the concepts we were learning. At some points, we would be doing labs on things we had not yet learned.
AWFUL, AWFUL! Avoid at all cost! She did not return your lab manual after course ends. Lab are boring and exhausting. Without a chair, the difficulty for sustaining the whole lab section were high.
The lab was awful we had to stand up for four hours straight and did labs on things we hadnt learnt at times. It was so much work for a 2 credit course. Julie is a nice person but definitely not the best prof, so thankful for my TA
Julie is the absolute best prof Ive had at SFU! If your struggling office hours is a must. She is so helpful there and will explain very clearly. Jacob is also an amazing TA. Together they made this my favourite class. You should definitely take any class with Julie and she will make is 1000 times better. Few pop quizzes that are memorization.
She's a kind prof. Always makes sure students are learning and if you mess up your practical exam, she talks to you about it to see what happened (there were like >10 of us so that's really nice of her). Labs suck and r long but not hard, reports r mostly the same as LC, marking is super fair. Lectures at beginning of labs r useful. Final was fair
One of the best lab teachers out there.
Professor Lunniss is AMAZING. She is an incredible lab teacher. She is compassionate and is really good at explaining concepts. Her office hours are really helpful. She makes you feel more comfortable and confident in the lab. You would be lucky to get her.
Dropped the class because of the lecture portion which is absurdly hard, but the lab is actually not bad. She is very helpful within the lab and outside the lab, I would take her again every time. Best thing to do for your grade in the class is to ask question she explains concepts and techniques in the lab very well and doesn't get annoyed abt it.
Really nice lab instructor. She explains things well and calls me "love".
She was very kind and nice to talk to. She also gave useful demos throughout our labs and was always there to help regardless of how the question. Nothing negative to say about her or the course.
CHEM 121 Lab/CHEM 125 is a very tough lab for a 1st yr lab. Dr. Lunniss is very caring and really wants the class to do well. She creates a positive learning environment and is always willing to help. She's knowledgeable. You must do LON-CAPA and write sol'n in Lab Man. Pay attention to what the report sheet asks for you to do before going to lab
She loves hearing herself talk. She wastes at least 30 minutes of valuable lab time each class on information that could have easily summarized in a single email. And we have to complete the lab report in class (4 + pages sometimes) so it's really disrespectful to waste so much time. The "four hours" is more like 3 by the time she's done chattering
She is generally a very nice and helpful person, and patient during office hours. The one thing that bothers me so much about her is that she can be so sarcastic. She has a general idea of each student's progress. I did bad on some of the labs, and she knew that too. So after the lab, she says to me "better luck next time!". Not my kind of gesture.
