Great, excellent, the best, a triumph, it was spectacular...i can go on and on...a class that will help anybody for the better. A very kind professor...always willing to help her students with any concerns or questions they may have.

Julie is a really great teacher. Her class was very fun and rememerable. I suggest taking her class. You will not regret it.

Very clear and informative but is rude at times. She doesn't follow what she preaches. Concern about her age and grades you on ur work and personlity.If she doesn't like you, she give u a letter grade down. I've seen it done to my classmates.

I have a hard time with public speaking. Ms. Mallard's class put me at ease. I would recommend her to anyone.

Easy teacher to work with. She makes every class activity a learning experience. She gives you confidence when you really need it. Most of all, she is the HOTTEST teacher I've ever had!

Best teacher ever!! She knows how to teach people in ways that it reaches out to everyone. She brings the class to life, she is caring, beautiful, and has a great sense of humor. You can't really say that about a lot of teachers.

I really didn't want to take speech, but she makes it easy. There are state requirements, like how many speeches you have to make and stuff, but it's not too hard. She's friendly and the entire class becomes friends. It was fun!

I wasn't very interesed in this class at first but i took it for a prerequisite. She's a very easy teacher and we didn't have a final. We had 2 speeches in front of the class, one of them was in a group. Overall, easy

she's funny, easy going and easy. The class was interesting yet fun. Even though Speaking in front of others is hard, she makes the environment more relaxing and not as nervous. Highly recommended.

She is a very good teacher. I hate public speaking but she makes speech writing very easy. I took her in summer and it was a simple class. If you have a full load take her. Work is not hard.

A great teacher for a GE class!Some people think she grades on favoritism, but thats not true.You just think that way because you got a bad grade.She's actually very intuitive and can tell how much effort you've put in, and she grades accordingly.I was bummed at a few of my grades, but I realized it was what I deserved.Very fair,and very fun class!

She is very helpful but sometimes she is moody. Do not let that stop you from taking her class. Speeches that I had to contstruct were very easy!! We hardly get quizes or read the book! She is understanding of people who get scared in front of class! TAKE IT! Go For it!

She takes great pains to make everyone comfortable speaking in front of the class (speed-dating, skits, the works). She assigns almost no reading and very easy homework (which comprises almost a third of your grade). Students do a TON of group work and group presentations. Overall her grading is generally easy, but VERY subjective and biased.

very easy class if you're okay with being in front of an audience. makes u feel comfortable in front by doing group assignments, such as improv. great summer course for an easy A.

Most amazing teacher ever! I LOVE HER! She is the most helpful teacher I've ever had. She motivated me to do so much beyond what I had to do in class and really helped me figure out what I am good at and what I want to major in. So easy to talk to and sweet. Best teacher I have ever had in my life!

she is a fun teacher who makes speeking in front of a classroom not only easy, but somewhat enjoyable. she has fun with the class and the more outspoken you are the more fun the class is. can be a bit of a blond at times, but makes fun of herself. fair with grades. you need to do the work to pass, and put effert in your style of speech. great class

Her class is the best class I've ever taken in Mt. SAC. She's a helpful teacher as well as a friend. She's pretty fair on grading. You have to put some efforts in this class to get an A. But out of it, I guarantee you would learn so many possitive things from her especially in public speaking. In addtion, she's such a cute blondie. Recommended!!!!

She is honestly, the best teacher I have had at Mt.SAC. And I have had some pretty good ones. She makes class interesting as well as very easy. Ive made about C's in all the classes Ive taken so far. But she made it worth while to go to her class everyday. Not only a great teacher.....but really hot. I actually learned alot in this class though.

I would highly recommend taking SPCH1A with her. She's funny, makes class enjoyable/fun (skits, group assignments...etc). She assigns very little homework. No quizzes/tests. I was terrified to speak in front of the class at first but after taking her class it isn't half as bad as I thought.

shes fun, nice, and cool! i was scared to death of this class, but she made it relaxing...feels more like some speech club that you would join in high school rather than a class. you dont have to put that much effort and you really do become a better speaker at the end of the semester!!

I LOVE Ms. Mallard! She is the BEST! She is well organized and she teaches very well. I learned a lot from her. I took her in the 2nd session of summer school and the entire class was tired and hot. She made changes to the due dates of our assignments and lifted alot off our backs. She held on to us and made sure we passed.

Attendance is required, unfortunately. If you take this class for winter or summer, be prepared to basically have a speech every week. At least try not to be absent when you have to present. Besides that, you have some group things and she's cool for the most part.

Textbook work over term paper any day. Favors people alright...that DO WELL! So do your work, ask questions if you DON'T KNOW what you are doing before a speech and practice your speeches to ACE THE CLASS. Vocal variety is key <wink, wink>

i was so nervous about speaking in front of a large group but she really made everyone feel comfortable. She does a lot of group projects so you can get to know everyone in the classs making it better to speak infront of them. A lot of hw but well worth it if you dont do well with speaches. Very easy to pass as long as you go and do hw.

people said she was easy so she started to take points away from our speeches without a convincing explanation. If you just want to pass, you'll breeze through, if your aiming high then charm her.

she is definitely a sight to see but also a dedicated professor. she does a great job of unifying the class to ease the nerves of speaking in front of people. she brings confidence to people like me, the shy hat guy who sits in the corner. that confidence lead to extra credit which gave me an A by .3% do ALL the work = easy A. best prof ever!!!!!=D

When I first started the class, I thought, omg, this lady is crazy, however, i quickly learned that her teaching style is brilliant! There is a lot of work and you have to really earn an A. I had never enjoyed or looked forward to attending a general ed class until Ms. Mallard. Do yourself a favor and take her!!! :-)

Prof is all business. Class is a gas, well taught, extremely organized. Do the work, put some effort into what you are doing, have some fun and you will do fine here. An outstanding teacher, a person you will want to know.

I actually had her at Pasadena City College. She's a fun teacher but not don't let her looks trick you she's really knows what she's doing. Subject wasn't the easiest but she truly wants everyone to do well.

She is great. Very funny and sarcastic. Go along with what she says and she will love you ( just like any teacher, I guess). Take her! She knows what she's doing and you actually get something from her class.

This class is difficult. You can't really ask her a question without her referring you back to the book for the answer (instead of just giving you a simple answer). You have to be on your A game if you want to pass this class. Other than that, she's a nice human being and can be funny at times.

i disagree. this professor is awesome! i am NOT a morning person, and i actually don't mind taking her 730AM class, because i know it'll be fun. she makes you feel really comfortable. it's an easy A, and she's really helpful. GLAD I TOOK HER!!

Best and most active class I have been in at Mt. Sac. Amazing professor really makes you feel comfortable in speaking in front of the class. Took her for summer 1-2 years ago and would do it again. Before I took her she wasn't giving written midterms/finals but the school made her add it in. She does little "kirky" things that made the class laugh.

She is a very nice teacher. Well help you try to make you fell better when up giving speeches. She got me thought each speech. I could just look at her and her face would say you doing great keep going. Take in winter or summer. She teaches early but she is worth it. " Hi Mallard love Cookies"

Yes, her class was tough. But if you take her & the class seriously, she will really help you out. I don't know why people are taking things personal. She can be slightly moody, but she's mostly funny and made her class really fun. I don't think she has favorites. I worked really hard so she helped me every time I had questions. Great professor.

I LOVED her Intercultural Honors class! I laugh at the comments below b/c they are HONORS students & only care about their grades. She's a great professor! Sorry she doesn't give away grades, you have to earn them. If you ask for help, she's there for you. An "A" is PERFECT work, not just good. Want to earn an "A" - do the work. It's college folks.

SHE'S FANTASTIC! I'm learning so much in her Business Comm. She's warm & very funny/scarcastic. If you don't get her humor, you could think she's serious though. Class feels like old friends/family. We all like each other and like coming to class. She was in the newspaper as a "loved professor" and I see why. TAKE HER CLASS!

this class is NOT for the extremely shy or lazy!!!!! if you are, stay away!! you just dont do speeches in this class, there are a variety of of presentations you have to do which are fun/nerve-racking. easy C, can get a B, need to go above and beyond to get an A.

Agree with last post, you can't be lazy! I'm shy, but she made it pretty comfortable. I got a high B, but I learned a ton in her class. She's good at what she does. Not easy though. I recommend her!

She's my favorite professor @ MSAC. She's funny, but you still learn a lot. I've changed my major to Speech b/c of her! She's an inspiration, mentor, & friend.

Julie Mallard-Laverty is the most amazing professor EVER. I lived in 4 different countries before and I would say she is the best teacher I have ever had!! She kept the class very interesting from day 1 until the end. Assignments are very cool&exciting! You'll learn a lot in her class. The quality of your speech delivery&content will increase a lot

Nice, cute, sense of humor. Lots of group work and got screwed over and it cost me my A. Too much of your grade is based on how you work as a unit and how well you get along with your group. I pretty much made the entire Powerpoint presentation and as a result my dialog with my group was a little weak and she graded me as if I slacked off entirely.

Mrs. Mallard-laverty is the most AMAZING teacher I've ever had! She's smart, caring, sweet and always willing to go out of her way to help.

Professor Laverty is a great professor who really cares about her students success. She gives amazing lectures which see tries to add some humor into. She tries to make every class fun but don't disrespect her by talking or being on your phone, not only is it rude to being with, but she'll call you out. She's definitely a recommend.

SPCH 8 can be taken in place of SPCH 1A. Prof. Laverty gives clear instructions both verbally and non verbally. If it has to do with an assignment, the answers are likely on the syllabus already. Highly recommended to all who want to improve themselves both professionally and personally.

Take her in the winter or summer. Am shy so I didn't want to be stuck in a 16 wk class just three projects a flash mob and shark tank and a speech in front of your shark tank group sounds scary but you get comfortable with the group and with the class, she is a chill professor. show up on time for the presentations cause she locks the door

Julie Laverty (Mallard) was always kind and had a positive, encouraging attitude. I have had a crippling social phobia for most of my life and I felt an improvement in my ability to talk to people because of taking her class. I almost did not pass because I was unable to overcome my anxiety to participate in groups, but extra credit saved me.

Great professor, the entire course was very easy to follow with clear instructions. She is a bit difficult to reach outside of class.

loved everything in this class except she wouldn't really reflect with you on what you did wrong during your speeches/ slide shows you present, but I didn't really ask either.
