Assignments and grading is very fair

Her class is not hard at all. Students don't have to a lot of works. Students only have to write two essays and one research paper. Students only have to read two short stories each week.

A great easy teacher. It's a ton of groupwork... 1A has several essays which make up most of your grade. About 6 essays. I found the night class extremely difficult to stay awake for. Too much groupwork, but easy, and nice. Very helpful!

nice teacher. treats students like its elementary school, which is nice for a change. its easy in the classroom, very comfortable atmosphere, she'll spoonfeed you everything. 6 essays which is basically ur grade. final = multiple choice, piece of cake.

Her class was pretty tought, too many essay homework. But as far as summer class, she has been the one one that made it fun. We had game and fun in the class.

Julie Pesano is a great EWRT teacher if you can get past her second grade approach to getting familiar with other students. If you take the class seriously, it's an easy A. Also, of course POP CULTURE in AMERICA is very American!

GOODS- Easy final, no need to take any notes, generally easy class, no mid-terms and teacher is finer than a mother ****er. BADS- You don't really learn much if you have a basic understanding of english. Your writing will probably improve at most.

the coolest teacher i have ever had at de anza. shes nice, helpful and fun. shes a modern teacher. some may argue about how much they actually learned in her class. i had her for summer school, and i felt like i learned a lot; given the short time.

Really great class. I like writing, but even if I didn't, I'd like this class. It doesn't matter how tired or bored you may be, she finds cool ways to get your attention in class and makes it easier to understand the material. She really is one of the best teachers I've had so far.

she is helpful and nice. i often visit her during office hour to discuss my essays. her classes are sometimes boring because the material itself is not interesing. she has homeworks due everyweek, so does quiz. you need to read books and answer questions. it is not hard after all. allow rewrite.

She's the best teacher I've ever had.I wish she had been teaching 1B and 2 when I had to take them because she would've been my first choice. I'm an international student so it's harder for me to write, but I never had a problem, she's helpful, she's clear, and she's cool. I never got bored in her class. If you're not a very good writer, take her.

pesano is really understanding. she's really helpful. her class is pretty easy. 3 essays and a weekly 5 point quiz. there is some reading but it's not horrible compared to other teachers. we had alot of internation students in our class and she really helps them. great teacher. not too hard. take her!

I felt like I was in high school again. Far too easy. She let people saunter in far too late, didn't tell people to settle down when things got crazy, and she seemed to be very new at teaching. If I had read & turned in my paper long before the final, my B would have been an A. That's how easy her class was.

Well, she is not 'hot' hot. But yeh, you won't get really bored in class. Only the discussion and peer editing can't really help you much. Sometimes she just let one or two particular people speaks too much in class.

I dont know what all these negative comments about her and her teaching methods are.I took ELIT with her and the class was totally interesting and informative. Met lots of interesting people and got to learn in a relaxed/welcoming environment. quizzes,midterm,paper,scene,final. Pay attention/come to class get a GOOD grade to reflect your work.

Ms.Pesano is the bomb! took her for 100B. Everything's easy if you put enough effort into it and her class is just like that. As long as you read the assigned readings, you'll do great on the quizzes! and reallly reallly take advantage when she gives time to revise you essays, it's all worth it.no biggie. easssy A. The best English teacher I've ever had. She is nice and helpful. I've really learn something from her class. Grading is fair, and if you go to WRC to improve your essays, you'll be fine.

she is so clear on expectations. you just gotta go to class and so the assignment. she makes my worst subject completely understandable. take role 2 times in longer classes. NOT that this matters... but.. dresses cute and has a great body.. she's go no kids though, so maybe she has the time to work out.

She's so nice! Everything is laid out in the syllabus, and she gives example essays before assigning them so you know how to format it. Very organized, but reading so many short stories from the textbook made the discussions seemed rushed. She's very stylish and very professional.

I think she is a super, super easy teacher. I don't know why but everyone around me always get's C's on their essays and I always get A's. Maybe she has a bias in favor of my essays but anyways, easy teacher for me. Don't really need to read the book, read the summary. The essays were also easy, I wrote on the same topic again and again.

I took Intro to Shakespeare from her and it was rather interesting. If you don't read the text, you will do fine. The class discussions are rarely on the text themselves, mostly on the ideas of what is to be explained. For the tests, I watched the movies and did remarkably well. Just don't expect to get tons of work done, it's a fun filler class.=D

Decent teacher. Her quizzes are fair. When it comes to essays though, it sometimes seems she is fairly strict with certain techniques of formatting paragraphs throughout. Of course there is more than one way to write an effective paper, but she doesn't always seem to see it. Sometimes asking questions to try to be analytical that aren't needed.

Julie is a great teacher, not the best but you won't be disappointed. She's very insightful and offers much supplemental information on the authors and periods we're reading. The use of group work in class was a bit infantile but I understood her intention. Her expectations are clear and she's helpful if you ask for it. Easy enough A if you try!

She is a really good teacher; totally gets the students involved and makes what I previously considered to be fairly boring material very interesting and fun. The class is very interactive, expect to have a lot of class discussions. Lots to read and a quiz every week, but keep up on the reading and you'll be fine. Take her if you can!

There are 3 essays; two are 3-4 page essays and a 6-8 page research paper. Easy weekly quizzes on reading (read the online summaries). Really straight forward and simple class and she isn't a hard grader. Class time is relaxed but attendance is mandatory.

Great teacher. Helpful, knows what's she's teaching and how to steer the class discussions. Read the texts because you're quizzed every week. Ask her questions! She's a wealth of knowledge! Lists days activities on the board so you know what's up. Participate, and come prepared. Your loss if you don't.

Julie is the most coolest teacher I've ever have!! Her class Is so chill. She is lenient on grading, but still try your very best on essays!! Awesome professor! I took intro to Shakespeare and it's a lot of fun. Just make sure you read or at least use sparknotes because there are weekly quizzes. 2 exams, one presentation, a paper, and a scene enactment.

She is the best English teacher ever!!! i used to hate writing essays, but she makes it interesting. She explains every topic so clear and as well as what she will be looking for in papers. RECOMMENDED!!! I'm taking her again for Eng 1b.

Julie is very sweet and helpful.Her class is mostly discussions on the text. A look deeper into meanings of symbols. Quizes are every Tue worth 5 pts on the reading. Very easy. 3 essays that are fun to write. I definitely recommend her for this class and any class.

Professor Julie is a fun teacher who's always happy and cheerful when she comes to class. There's quizzes every week but if you do the reading you should be fine. Essay topics are fun to write and grades the essays with basic guidelines. Took her for 1A and 1B and never got lower than a 89 on any of my essays. Take her class!

She made essay writing fun and rewarding! There is still lots of work involved but that is to be expected. I used to hate reading, writing, and in class discussions, but her passion for the topics are contagious, and actually made me want to get involved. Just follow the rubrics for essay grading and you will do fine.

(Core honors class) Best class I've ever had. Julie is understanding, clear, fair, and listens to her students needs. Make sure to do the readings. As long as you do that, the weekly quizzes should be easy. Four essays (w one in-class essay), all of which are very interesting topics that give you a lot of creative freedom. One group presentation.

Sometimes she dismisses the class early to let us work on the assignment. And she is very helpful and understanding. Read the text and do the work, you'll get a good grade. Not a hard grader.

Julie had very engaging activities everyday in class. She assigns 4 essays.. midterm is an in class essay, ten quizzes based on reading *5 questions each, questions are sometimes about the little details, so make sure you read everything! And one final. Julie gives feedback on essays and has taught me a lot about grammar. Very nice and approachable

Julie is awesome! The reading in 48A is not very difficult, and the weekly amount isn't bad at all. The quizzes are very content based and don't require much analysis, you'll gain a deeper insight during the class discussions, which are really great! Class is easily missed, but you won't want to!

Great teacher! Julie loves her class and is committed to her student's success. Her class was an easy A-, but I found it hard to obtain the A. Just do strong outlines and follow her feedback on the essays and you will be fine.

Best English teacher I have had. Very good feedback always willing to help and she doesn't drown her students in hw. It's not a class you can sit and pass there are essays and a research paper but she gives plenty of time. Also the books we read are very enjoyable.

Professor Pesano makes sure that every student in the class understands the material. When you email her she'll reply instantly! Taking her EWRT211 class really helped me improve on my writing skills such as grammar and sentence variety. You won't ever feel like the class is boring because she does a lot of activities through out the quarter.

Julie is amazing! She has quizzes every week that are worth 1% of your grade. If you do the readings, you will be fine. I love how she makes us work with everyone in class through essay peer review and in-class exercises. She genuinely tries to make the class as fun as possible for her students. Shes awesome and so sympathetic. I had an anxiety attack before class and emailed her last minute saying I couldnt come and she was so understanding. Shes so nice & so welcoming. She loves engaging with her students and hearing what others have to say. Very engaging class and honestly never a dull moment. Very rational and fair with grading too.

Professor Pesano was one of the best professors ever! We had a decent amount of writing, but never once did I feel overwhelmed by the workload. I was a terrible writer and she did an amazing job of teaching the basics of writing. She gives great feedback and is not a hard grader.

She is awesome but definitely not an easy A. She has a very clear and specific grading criteria which will be announced to everyone before she grades. Thus, I actually don't really understand those who gave her bad reviews, if you didn't follow the rules, why should her give you good grades? Anyways, you'll learn a lot if you work hard enough.

Prof. Pesano is a such sweetheart. Yes, she gives lots of work but nothing too crazy. English is my second language and I got an A so if you do the work and don't miss any assignments you should be fine, plus she always gives feedback. My writing skills really improved after I took this class. (I didn't see any extra credit option).

Great instructor, Great class, you dont have to show up to class, but she keeps lectures around 50 min twice a week. i showed up, because, why not. the work is very straightforward. essay lengths requirements arent out of the ordinary for a college level english class. otherwise, if you just take a minute and put your mind to it, it's an easy A.

She is a great teacher who really cares about her students. You do have to do lots of discussion posts so she does assign a fair amount of work. But as long as you get those done you should be fine. She gives good feedback on essays.

Pesano's lecture is the type you don't fall asleep in. She is very engaging and entertains a variety of thoughts and ideas in the class. She is the absolute sweetest and also very knowledgeable in her subject. Ask her questions, run essay ideas by her and show her that you care for the class and she will reciprocate that enthusiasm during grading.

I enjoyed taking the class with her. She was very accomodating towards my situation. She offers insightful feedback on your essays. Communicate with her what you need help with and rest assured she will help you to the best of her abilities.

Really easy class if you just follow her rubric and essay guidelines. HW due every wed and sun. Just reading short stories and discussion posts. Only 3 essays total and you have enough time to write them since she creates assignments for an outline, rough draft, then final draft. Only project was a group presentation on an author she assigns.

I honestly don't know why some have harshly reviewed Professor Pesano. I took her years ago, and she is kind and understanding. Her lectures were beautiful, and if you struggle with an assignment, you need to communicate with her; that's why the professor is there for support. Overall she is a beautiful person inside and out.

Easy teacher with manageable work.

She's a great teacher. Her hw can be longer at some times, but as long as you follow the directions and put effort into your writing, you'll get full marks. Midterm and finals are short and easy essays. One group presentation can be done online and is easy. Research a topic with classmates. I'd recommend taking her for at least a guaranteed B.

Julie is an incredible teacher who genuinely cares about her students. I had her for ELIT 46B and EWRT 1B. She holds you up to high standards and will rarely give out 100%s on essays, so show up, be present, and do your best. Slacking will not get you an A with her. Her lectures have stuck with me for years, and I wish I could take her again!

Paseno is an excellent instructor, making class discussions interesting and enhancing our writing skills through the exploration of various literary styles, analysis essays, quoting techniques, and bibliography presentations. You will not regret taking her class if you're serious about improving your writing abilities.

Very clear rubric for essays (four in total) and gave pretty good feedback. She seems very caring but I would say her lectures are not the best. She relied a lot on the assigned reading (which was free,) and she also had the students give presentations on grammar. She cares a lot about grammar and sentence structure.

Manageable workload if you stay on top of the assignments. Helpful professor, but attendance is mandatory. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for study prep.

Genuinely such a nice teacher who really cares about her students and their success. She gives a lot of feedback and grades essays very quickly. You do have to read a good amount but all the work was manageable and she doesn't grade hard at all.
