SHe is Awesome! Very kind and also she helps you so much throughout the semester. Honestly, One of The Best Professors at Mason! So take BULE 302 with her..and take good notes...You will be fine.
Very nice lady. Class was fairly easy for a 300 level class. She is very helpful if you have a question, posts slides used for lectures online. There was no comprehensive final, drops the lowest of 4 test grades. Have a couple assignments to do that take maybe an hour or so.
She is one the best professor I ever had. Very helpful and kind. Her lectures are very informative and she uses real life examples. The test questions are fair. If you take good notes and read the chapters you should just do fine.
Her teaching style is not effective at all! Waste of time and money. Her exams are not easy and reallyyy confusing like students below say unless she changed her style and made hard exams since everyone said it was easy before. Wouldn't recommend!
take notes in class and study hard you will easily get an A. attendance mandatory. lady loves cats. gives plent of extra credit.
She's the worst teacher ever.
I think she is a great teacher. I really enjoyed her class and she clearly enjoys teaching. Her tests are fair and there will be no surprises. You MUST attend every class b/c about 1/2 of test material is lecture. As long as you put forth effort you should be able to pass with a B at worst. . seriusly!
She is not a good teacher at all. Does not follow text when lecturing. Gives stories/cases that make no sense whatsoever. She's nice but she fails when it comes to giving lectures. She is an unfair grader and is not at all considerate. Take Demory instead! At least she uses the book
If you want to learn business law, don't take her. I know more random facts about coffee than I would ever care to (you get hw on this). The class isn't hard, but take notes on every detail she says about stories you may not even think r relevant. Must read book b/c she doesn't explain material clearly. Very unorganized. Takes forever to grade.
She wasn't bad; I thought the tests were pretty fair. Take good notes though, the majority of her tests come from listening to the lecture more than reading the book. She's nice and friendly. The flow of teaching in the class was at a good, comfortable pace.
I'm confused w/ the bad ratings... she was extremely nice, flexible with students, graded homework fairly (there were only a couple), and the exams were easy (study an hour or two before and you're golden). I didn't open the book once. Just take notes, pay attention and make sure you know the details on the cases. There are extra credit ?s on exams
prof. shubin is nice and helpful, not too great at explaining things though. she is great regardless. would recommend her, but dont be afraid to ask her questions to clear things up
She's awesome! I find her approachable, patient, humorous, and friendly with students. MUST attend lectures, talks about fun cases so time flies, remember to participate. Take detailed notes on evrythng (moral of the story etc) I like how she doesn't teach from the book instead interprets her own way. Borrow the book, needed for some HWs. =)
Took Bule 402 with her and although it was maybe the easiest course I've ever taken, it also was maybe the boringest. Lectures are brutal because all she does is read her slides, so you don't really need to go to class. Memorize the slides and you'll pass the exams.
I've never had a business law class that isn't horridly boring, so expect the same here. The woman is obsessed with cats and cupcakes, so expect all examples to be based off said subjects. Her class isn't too hard, but she asks very generalized questions and gets upset when students don't give specific answers. Try to find another prof if you can.
she's awesome. very easy if you take good notes. she helps you. just go to class and take good notes. EASY B. and if you try little bit you'll get A
Definitely a very sweet woman, but be prepared for her exams as they are based solely off of what she goes over in class- NOT whats on her powerpoint slides. Make sure to take good notes while in class because test questions are very specific.
Attending class is VERY important. Detailed notes from lectures a must. The class is not too hard if you take good notes during lectures.
BEST prof I've ever had. Take good notes, study/cram 1 week before the exam, don't wait last min, easy A! She makes the class fun by using real life examples themed on a cupcake store and cats, so its consistent. Detailed exams, so MUST attend lecture or you will FAIL. Friendly, emails back, always willing to help. (NO BOOK needed, i got an A)
Don't be fooled by the reviews. She is a really fun teacher! She does talk about cats, but I found all her stories relevant & great ways to remember her exams. Exams were straight forward but have to come to class to understand. Didn't use books much unless for definitions and some cases. Homework was easy. Study terms & examples & you'll get an A
Some of these positive comments were written by the professor. Short answers are extremely subjective. Exam questions are UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. She tries to trick you & asks trivial questions. Average grade on exams were a 72%. I think her goal is to match the SOM average grades, so she may curve. Few A's were given.. and 3/4 cheated.
Great professor, she responds to emails quickly. Must attend class for best possible grade but worth it because she teaches what will be on test directly. Easy B by just attending
As long as you go to every class and take notes and study exactly what she tells you to you will atleast get a B in her class. Sometimes there are 1 or 2 confusing question on her test. She also likes to ask what she found interesting about cases on her test which is eh
Nice professor. Willing to help when you need it. Some of the cases were interesting. You will have to take a lot of notes. Some of the exams questions are tricky, but not so bad. If you need to take BULE, take her.
Prof. Shubin is a fantastic professor. She really does try to make the class as intellectually stimulating as possible. The tests are tricky, and you may get mad at the way to study, but it is important to really give in and spend time studying. I wasn't looking great going into the final, but she really wants her students to pass, so get along!
Fun Professor with loads of personality. Tries to make the subject as easy and enjoyable as possible. Graduated exams - helps if you don't do well on initial exams. All her exams are from class slides - take good notes for an easy A.
The best professor ever!!! TAKE HER!!! You will learn a lot!!! You will enjoy a lot!!!
Simply amazing! Class is very interesting and subject matter very relevant. Professor Shubin is awesome and you will surely leave the class learning Business Law.
She really did a good job at keeping the class interesting. I also REALLY liked her! she was really nice, especially for an adjunct. You must go to class to pass, the majority of the questions are from what she says. the textbook is a good supplement. I would definitely recommend & Take her agaiN!
As an adjunct professor she is rarely available for office hours, difficult to reach after class, does not have an office. However her tests are directly from her lectures, record the lectures if you want to pass this class. Her power points are vague and lack of content so do not rely on them. Pay attention to her cat's names for bonus questions.
she really likes cats. go to all of her lectures and take lots of notes. pay attention to all the little details because her tests are extremely specific to what she says during class. take really really good notes you will need them also find a student to link up with and send you notes i used some one else's notes to compare with mine
There are some homeworks, all easy. The tests are difficult but only because she has a lot of multiple choice questions that are like C. A&B, so you want to make sure you study days before the exam to make sure those questions don't trip you up. Overall she was a good teacher and her lectures are interesting, but make sure you go and take good note
Better than other teachers. Took Demory the first time. She makes the concepts SO much easier to understand. You HAVE to attend lectures. Her tests are based a lot on what she says in class. Easy class if you attend the class and read the textbook.
She's really nice but she doesn't curve your grade. What you get is what you get so if your final grade is a D then that's your grade. If you're not doing well on the exams then just drop. Don't think she'll be generous because she wont.
Professor Shubin is great at what she does. She tires hard to keep lectures relevant and memorable. She also holds many office hours for questions. Tests may be a bit tricky, but, they all come from the lectures and she gives plenty of extra credit! Take her!
Tough class. Her exams are super tricky and hard. Don't ever skip class, otherwise you are not going to pass. Take all notes in class, go to class otherwise you'll fail.
She the best professor for BULE!!!!!!! Easy grader, She super nice and helpful. Just show up for class, do the assignments and this class will be an easy A. Attendance is very important because what's on the test is from her stories in class. Always gives extra credit on exams and the questions are always about you cats!!! Take Her !!!!!!
I don't know what I like more about Professor Shubin's class the fact that I have turned into a judge Judy after this course or how easy the tests were. Easy doesn't mean don't study you do need to work hard but there are no tricks on any of the tests. Professor Shubin is willing to sit with you and tell you what to study what do you want more?
Professor Shubin is great! Would definitely recommend her over Professor Demory in term of easiness. She really wants her students to do well. Her test are fairly easy but you will need the class notes or you will fail as most of the questions are from topics that she discusses during lecture. Just reading the book and pp slides won't be enough.
Julie Shubin is the best Professor that you can take for this BULE course. The lecture flows with the book, but Professor Shubin includes many of her own personal experiences that relate to the material. She really helps you understand the material and how it relates to real life scenarios, and you can tell that she loves her job and students.
Don't choose his professor
The professor really did a good job on teaching, but the exam was hard and confusing.
I really enjoyed this class with her! I would recommend everyone to attend ALL classes because all of the answers to the exams are in her lectures and notes. She'll sometimes even mention it beforehand. Print out lectures before class so you save time on writing. She offers extra credit and gave out homework-maybe 4 times which is SUPER easy to do.
Forget the book. Don't skip classes with her, exam materials are pretty much lecture-exclusive. She puts a lot of questions that she only mentions in lectures, you won't get the information anywhere else. You could skip class and memorize the textbook front to back and you still won't get an A. HW was easy though but bulk of the grade are exams
SUCH a great professor. If you skip class even once, your grade will suffer. But as long as you go to class and take good notes, you'll have a great experience. There were 3 exams, one essay, one project and small classwork/extra credit. Study the lecture notes and use the book to help with clarification and definitions.
Do not expect an easy A or B. You better expect to work for your grade and if you think you can just study the night before and go over the lecture notes and do well, you're in for a rude awakening. - PowerPoint, things written on the board, and the book are all important - Excuses will fall of deaf ears - Great teacher but prepare to work hard
Tough class, but she makes it easier. Lots of extra credit. Write down everything she says as any little thing could be on the exam. Study class notes with the powerpoints and book and you will be okay. 3 exams and a final make up most of your grade. In order to do well in this class you need to STUDY. She is nice and available for help.
Prof. Shubin is the best professor I have ever had, and I am not exaggerating. I used to think law is a dry and boring subject, but she makes me fall in love with it. She gives amazing lectures! I learned a ton of things from her. You won't regret by choosing her, just don't expect the class to be an easy A.
If you take her you need to take really good notes or record her lecture. Exams have such detailed questions so pay attention in class. Use your textbook for definitions and skim the sections that she covers in class. Has some in class activities which are easy points. Can choose to do one essay out of the first three exams. The first topic is easy
Makes tests super confusing and on study guides says "she can't tell you everything" so you do not know exactly what will be on the test. Tests are over 80% of your grade. Do not take this professor
Only teaches two sections, both are below 65% Average. Had to actively make exams easier due to the innumerable failing grades. Does not grade in a timely manner. Will not tell you the reasoning behind the recieved grade. Tests off of lecture, not textbook or homework which is also required.
The exams are very difficult, everything is off the lecture. I recommend recording her if you plan on taking this section. Her class would benefit from study guides, but she doesn't provide them. Going to class is a must to get a good grade. written assessments are very hard, she will only give you hints on what cases to find, most chapters have 12
Excellent teacher!Professor Shubin made the material easy to understand through real life stories and cases. There is lots of opportunities to improve your grade. Class participation help you to understand the materials as well as getting point towards final grade and get to drop lowest exam. Recommended
Lots of group work and presentations. Provides good feed back but late on grading assignments.
This professor is AMAZING to be able to cover everything she needed to cover. Intelligent! A LOT OF INFORMATION. I dont blame the professor, the department needs to redo the structure of the materials. Tips: record her lectures, when you are ready to study write everything she says, read portions of the book that she highlighted through lecture.
The lectures can be a bit dry, but it is well advised to write down every single word that comes out of her mouth, because the test is heavily based on lecture material. Take good, thorough notes, make sure you do the MindTap homework every week, and you should do just fine. I've heard horror stories about other BULE profs, so Shubin is an easy bet
Great prof., was energized, important for my evening section. Attendance mandatory to drop lowest exam & written exam. 5 exams, drop lowest, 4 written exams, drop lowest. HW online. Exam questions come from text and lecture, you will not pass if you miss class. Bus. project end of semester. She was great, listen and read to get most out from class.
This class is a lot of work! There is 5 exams, 4 written exam essays, hw for every chapter & a business project. Read the textbook (the case examples) & record her lecture in order to do well. Every exam is tricky and the written assignment is graded harshly. Study well & take good notes & this class is an easy A. Shubin is a great professor!!
4 tests (MC & Written 30 mins for each),a final exam &a business project. She is VERY specific w/ her examples mentioned in her lectures (you will see them again on the test)! tests r hard bc she combines answers in the multiple choice which makes it 10x harder. expects you to remember every LITTLE DETAIL which is unrealistic. takes long to grade.
I really like professor Shubin. She's nice and if you talk to her one on one, shes pretty accommodating. However, this class has a lot to it. You really have to go to class in order to pass. I highly recommend recording her lectures since there's a lot of information and take good notes.
GO TO CLASS. RECORD THE LECTURE. I literally failed the first few exams but finished with a B because I started recording her lectures - the tests are based literally off what she says. She is so so sweet and I hated BULE bc it was hard but I will miss her! She knows the class sucks (she doesn't design it) and makes it as easy as she can for us.
Only problem I had was that her written assignments were very hard to understand, and expectation were very vague, and that is what costed me, but she is a great teacher and a person as well. I would definitely take her again.
This class measures how closely you paid attention, assessments are heavily based on what she has talked about in class. Slides only have pictures, no words. However, material is easy to understand and actually very interesting. Show up on days with in-class assignments and create a good one sheet to bring to the test and you'll be golden.
Prof Shubin is an ok prof. I took her for BULE 303. She is very dependent on her note cards and slides. If you have more complex questions she often struggles to answer them. Her multiple choice exams are stupid, often they will be all except a and b, and c, ect. They are not clear.
Very reasonable and caring professor. Pay attention in class and take notes and this class should be very straightforward. Gives a study guide for what topics you need to know for the exam. They aren't strictly textbook based so go to class so you know what to focus on and get any extra cases.
She drops your lowest test and written assignment if you get enough participation points. RECORD EVERY LECTURE, it will save you on the exam and get all your information from her study guide off of the textbook.
RIDICULOUS, ask questions on test based on specific words she says so you are expected to take very precise notes and not miss A WORD she says. If you happen to not be able to be an attentive student dont expect an A in this class unless you are recording this course and reviewing it on your own time.
Expect taking 2 difficult timed tests in one class session; writing assignments needs very specific answers, tests are multiple choice but she makes up material based on her fantasy Pink cupcake bakery which is not an actual case we study. Shubin has a bad habit of saying UMM every 10 seconds. Doesn't like to answer students questions during class.
Professor Shubin is a fantastic professor. During the pandemic she was the only professor who maintained contact, kept students updated, and continued to have stimulating lectures. Take her class, she asks a lot of her students but the payoff is high if you are willing to read the textbook and take good notes!
Prof. Shubin is good but get ready to read a lot. Honestly, you can pass the class just by attending her lectures. You need to attend the lecture in order to do well on tests. You can drop the lowest score if you get enough participation points. Overall good class.
Shes nice and understanding, but if you dont plan on recording her lectures you'll have a very tough time in her class. There are 5 exams. The Mindtap hw & group work is fairly easy. Exam questions arent from the textbook, she makes them & the questions are VERY tricky. Only take her if youre willing to record her lectures.
Loved Professor Shubin. She's nice, understanding, and makes it simple for students to pass. The class is easy if you attend (or watch if online) lectures and read the textbook (avg 3 chapters every 2 weeks). She provides a clear study guide for every test. Lots of extra credit work. If you do the easy (HW) you can drop 1 test and 1 written asign.
She explains every topic very well. Attending lectures is mandatory. Your lecture notes going to help you a lot when getting ready for a test. I loved the class. Learned a lot.
She is honestly the best. I'm going to miss her class- she is super knowledgeable and teaches the class well. There are 5 tests/written assignments- which are an easy A if you watch her lectures. Gives extra credit, and is understanding when it comes to working schedules. Do all the HW and you can drop your lowest grade. Class is easy if you study
Lectures are crucial to pass exams. Lots of talking during lectures but she is very sweet and helpful. Can get off topic a bit but is a great professor with a lot of experience in law.
Attend lectures, read the cases, and you'll pass. Her slides have all the information you need and she adds question that you'll only know if you watched her lectures. She made BULE fun and easy; her story-telling of cases were interesting. Most questions are short answer/paragraph format. 1 of the few prof. that engage with her students online.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR, on top of all the writing you have to do in this class (CP'S) and the 5 exams that you must take (one is dropped), and a few other assignments, the grading was NEVER clear, you aren't allowed to email her about questions on grading since she gets pretty pissed off but yeah... no... never again with this professor!
Avoid taking this class. Her lectures aren't great and her class was test heavy in terms of grades. A lot of writing, most questions on the test are from her lecture talks on cases that were pointless. Just choose a different professor.
This class isn't easy. But if you aren't lazy and want to learn, you will be just fine. The tests are open notes and come directly from her lectures. I will say she is kind and understanding. The one downfall is that her lectures get somewhat political sometimes, but besides that, you learn a lot of useful things attending her class. Take her!
If you do not take her course seriously, you will likely fail. There are 5 multiple choice tests and several writing assignments to go along with the tests. Like many of the other BULE professors- her grading is very harsh. She has little sympathy for her students and is hard to reach outside of class. Pay attention to lectures and USE TEXTBOOK.
the "My Grade" session on BB is EXTREMELY unorganized, good luck finding due dates (most due dates were in 2021) and your grades getting miscalculated. she is a tough grader and some exam questions were about her with nothing to do with the course materials. unresponsive to emails, find another professor, you'll be glad.
Professor Shubin is an amazing professor! I took her Tuesday evenings and she goes all the way until 10pm. Go to every lecture, participate a little and take notes on the notecards for Exams like she tells u to! Yes its 30 question Exams and you only get 30 min but u have notecards. Get the big 5"x8". Write the case notes and important concepts.
Fair professor. She makes up her own exams, doesn't give enough time to answer and you can't backtrack. Her written assignments have to be followed by her writing rubric or else you don't get a good grade. Her lectures are LONG. She is somewhat lenient with homework. Overall, she's okay.
To pass this class you will have to attend the lectures (I recommend virtually because you are able to pause and write things down) AND read the textbook carefully. Everything that's on an exam might not be covered entirely in class, but it will be in the textbook and vice versa. I cannot stress enough to detail your notes and you will pass.
To pass her class you need to take really precise notes during her lectures, otherwise you ll fail. All exams are based on lectures, everything she talks about, even something not relative to law can be on exam. Mindtap homework's are easy, all on quizlet. 5 exams 2 essays. If you score on CPs 150 you get to drop lowest exam and essay.
my grade isn't the worst right now, I seriously hate her class. her lecture and slides are so confusing, and hard to follow, where I retain 0 info from attending, there are literally slides she just has pics of her cats on. tests are 30 min for 30 qs write outs are 2 questions that need essay format for 40 min if you find a better teacher take them
Shubin is kind of all over the place. Her lectures and slides don't help when you're trying to learn. Lot's of unnecessary slides, its hard to follow when she talks bc she loses her train of thought and almost rarely gets to her point. There are also PERSONAL questions about her that she throws on the test. Do not recommend.
Although this was her last semester she gave many opportunities for extra credit. And was a lenient grader towards the end she was a good one to take
Her tests and HWs are heavy. The powerpoints have unecessary slides that has nothing to do with this class. I can regret this professor, but she is retired from teaching at GMU.
