This teacher is great. You'll hate her if you don't like learning, but isn't that the point of some college courses. She'll really challenge you to think. It won't be a walk over class.

Very intelligent lady, though she tends to be more on the liberal side. The course is not too bad, though I would recommend getting a head start on studying for the final exam. Get an A on the final and you get an A in the class.
Beware Frat Boys! She may ask you to think for yourself. The class is easy as Lucy McLoosy on prom night. You read 3 awsome books and have 3 tests. No final. If you have any remenence of a brain you should pass this class easy. MATH FOREVER!
Very smart and articulate professor. Demands crytical thinking from her students. Her goal is to make you aware of your democratic rights, but most importantly of your democratic duties. Excellent professor!
Take a discussion class 296 with it and easy A. Study ahead of time and take good notes and you're fine. She's too liberal for me and also way too vulgar. Ignore her & take notes and you're fine!
She is one of those teachers who is in her own world, like lets not upset the terrorists, violence is not the answer. So if you like that BS then yeah take it but if you want to survive in life don't believe it.
As long as you don't sleep in class and you're willing to study 2 nights before the exams, you're fine
If your taking a 296 discussion/analysis class, no need to even go to the 102. Just study the study guide before the midterm and final and you'll do fine! As crazy as she seems, she's very caring if you talk to her one on one.
tests are very difficult and is very unclear as to what you should know for the test, also phrases questions very strangely. But her random side comments do keep the class interesting and entertaining.

Although her ideas and thoughts are incrediable, her class is not. Her tests are impossiable and her multiple choice is worst. Study sesions help but she favors those in sports A LOT! Very liberal and annoying. One of my least favorite classes.
Boring class, never went because time goes by sooooo slowly. Gives a study exam but doesnt help for the test. Better luck guessing and getting a C. A lot of movies to watch tho which are ok.

Either you loved her or hated her. (She reads this website by the way). She presenting facts in a way most people dont interpret. Be prepared to think and have your opinions challenged. Visit her office hours, even just to shoot the breeze. She's funny!!!

Seems to care if you are involved in politics, but doesnt care if you pass the class. Lecture is not on tests (barely). Exams are vague-even if you studied, especially the multiple choice. Tests on minutia not knowledge/understanding.
If you do the extra credit you should get a good grade, even if you find the tests impossible.

A bit cranky. Chewed me head off when I asked for my second midterm back on the day of the final. I got low B's on the midterms and papers, but I must done well on the final because I got an A- in the course. Really wish I did the extra credit now.
she doesn't lecture. dont bother going to class because all she does is write words on the board and circle or underline them a thousand times. She shows a lot of videos. I passed this class by reading the book. she's an old cranky lady.

Showing up with a hangover not reccommended. She is very bias but only to the point where you start forming your own opinions and not relying on hers. Hard tests (dont be fooled by the multiple choice). She's not there to **** so dont waste her time.
Hard to hear. the class before always got out late and she started early, i never was close enough to hear what she said. Too many videos, unclear on what will be tested. Make nice and she will bump you up if borderline.

I was a poli sci major before this class. Now I'm not. She is so unclear, isn't really willing to help, she just argues with you and stares at you for the rest of the class if you try and raise a point.I liked her liberal views but that was about it. Asking a question to clarify anything doesnt really help because she answers with a question, makes you think. She is very intelligent but plays a lot of videos so dont take class in morning if you have trouble staying awake. class helps, but reading is the only way to pull a decent grade.

Easiest political science class ever. Worst lecturer in history. Maybe she should go back and research how to teach politics instead of lecture about making out on the grassy knoll during college or maybe teach kids instead of mess with them for not knowing an answer.
The class is very easy. I only attended lecture four times the whole semester and got a c and I didnt even do the extra credit. She gives you the study guides, required reading, and topic of the paper in the beginning of the semester. There is really no need to go to lecture if you do the reading.
The class is not so tough with her study guides. Easy to get a C or higher. Do not need to attend class, except on test days, and assigned readings don't really help that much.
She is hard not to pay attention to cause she is just so strange that half the time you just watch her thinking what is she doing??? She cares about the topic, makes it interesting most of the time, but her tests are all short answer essay questions and you don't get enough time. Take someone else.

She has a lot of readings, but if you must attend class and study extremely hard before her test to do well in her class. I only recommend class to fulfill general education requirements or if interested. Overall good teacher!

Professor Sullivan's lectures are obscure, unintelligible, irrelevent and biased. Her lectures are intended to be thought provoking but end up faling miserably. She as a person is spiteful and her course is incredibly difficult to study for because her lectures are so unfocused. And don't even get me started on the final.

First exam, watch out (crazy grader). Remember the hard political terms. Doesn't take role, but need to come to class or get a buddy that takes good notes, cuz you won't pass this class without them. That's 4 real b/c that is the same thing for Brian Adams.

She does not really stay on topic for a whole class but if you get good discussion teachers the class is really easy. You get all the questions that may possibly be on the midterm and final like a month before each test. I hate politics and still got an A on the midterm, second semester all you do is watch movies.

Definitely not as bad as I thought it was going to be. At first, I thought she was just crazy. Towards the end, she became funnier. Sometimes she does go off topic, though.

Don't listen to everyone else. I took her as a last resort after reading the ratings on her. But the class wasn't bad, the videos are very interesting and she is actually very nice and understanding. Just study what's on the study guide and you will do fine. I barely studied and got a B+

I don't agree with the other comments. She was a little rough around the edges, but she is a professor that expects her students to learn. She is very knowledgable about this subject, and I learned a great deal from taking her class. Don't miss class, do the readings, and study the study guides and you'll do fine.

This teacher reminds me of Brian Adams b/c her teaching is exactly like Brian Adams & Julie Sullivan herself. There can't be anything else.
I had luckily taken the freshman success program and had a discussion class along with hers because her lectures have NOTHING to do with whats on the test, so the TAs just told us what we SHOULD have learned that day. However, her lectures are interesting and she does want us to learn.
RUN!!! avoid her class at all costs! delay graduation if you have to! I hate this woman! She ruined my perfect GPA.
Her tests have nothing 2 do with her study guides & she has the exact same style as Brian Adams. Take Speckmann, Mercurio or a POLI SCI 102 class in the ENS 280, b/c she can't teach.
even though shes a bit kookoo.. she makes lectures go by fast with her antics. shes a great instructer and really smart. just make sure to go to all the classes to do well on the tests.

Sullivan was a great teacher and was really helpful to me. I went to her office hours often and she was always willing to help me any way she could. The class is really not that hard do the reading and go to class and you'll be just fine. I got an A in the class. You have to do the work and not be lazy.

Most people hate this teacher but she really knows her stuff (office hours!) Isn't afraid to tell you what the government won't. Opens your eyes to the world. Most who hate her are lazy, ignorant freshmen who aren't yet used to college. Agree with her on your tests and you'll get an A. And get a great GA! I recomment Steve Slatten! Best ever!
She's a nice lady, but she goes off on tangents about random issues during lectures and students get kind of lost. you should read the book and take your own notes to keep up with her. TA helped A LOT! she gives you study guide weeks before 2 midterms and final so you have plenty of time to prepare. tests are all essay.not too hard if you study
Anyone who gives this professor a bad rating,citing differences in political belief is an idiot,& missing the point..Whether you agree w/ Sullivan politically isn't the point b/c what matters is she only gives out 3 tests, she gives us the test questions months in advance, & offers numerous study sessions before the test. This lady is a total lunatic. She has the most incoherent form of "teaching" I have ever come accross. I hate her and she hates me back. If you want a class to sit in with a whole lot of freshman and a whole lot of ****. Take this class. Just avoid the reader. It's worthless. And make friends with anyone in the class to help you pass the time.

DO THE EXTRA CREDIT AND START EARLY. going to class helps and it is really interesting material because she relates it all to real life. The papers arent very hard at all but i would suggest reading the books and the blue reader is ESSENTIAL. the reason I got a B is because I didnt do the extra credit..
She was a a funny teacher, she would get mad if no one answered questions she asked and when somone did she would criticize them in front of the class. agree with her political views and you'll get an A or B easily. Tests were medium, half the test was on the study guide and the other half you had to know on the top of your head
Professor Sullivan taught me more about our government and what they DON'T tell you than anyone has my whole life. She truly opens your eyes and then lets you choose your side. She is approachable and will help you if you go to her office hours. She offers numerous study sessions and will go over some of the study guide in class. GREAT TEACHER!!

Wow, what a liberal. As a person she was silly and nice and she definitely knew what she was talking about. However, getting that across to her students...it seemed like she cloaked important information in her example-filled lectures. If it wasn't for Wikipedia I would've failed. She gives study guides though and tests were blue book for our class
she deffinitely knows her stuff, we were assigned two books books but I read neither and still got an A. I recomend being in class even though she seems a bit crazy. Instead of whining about her teaching style just learn to learn in a diferent form. she is quite interesting and I recomend her.

Disregard the negative things people say about Sullivan. The class is not hard- you know exactly what is expected of you; you even get useful study guides for all 3 exams. The only work is reading (quite a bit but you can skim); no essays. She's an excellent professor if you actually think about the material. No, she does not cut down your opinions
whoever says this class is difficult clearly isn't ready to be in college. Sullivan can be a bit vague sometimes but if you understand sarcasm and know at least a little about politics, you will understand her. use the study guides and the blue reader and you should do fine. i got an A and really didnt study for more than a couple nights.
Funny, entertaining, and her liberal point of view was refreshing as a first year. True, no one shares the same political view but as a teacher she gives 3 tests and a really helpful study guide. She also offers study sessions 2 weeks before the midterms. I liked this class.
Whoa, okay let me clear this up. Julie Sullivan is a wonderful, funny, caring woman. Yeah, her lectures can be confusing at times, but she knows what she's talking about. PLEASE, she's not "so liberal!" She's fair and doesn't push her own views on you. I got an A because I studied her study guides and went to office when I needed help. VERY HELPFUL
Ok This is college, dont expect mediocrity. She's an awesome lady! Lectures can be confusing & pointless but all makes sense @ the end of the day. Gives study guides & xtra credit. Sweet and smart. Nice lady, but uninteresting and I learned more watching the news than from her lectures.
If you want chills from excitement, take this class. I normally fall asleep during lectures, but found this teacher to be engaging and thought-provoking. Every time I left that class I saw life in a new way and thought about how I could change the world.

i hate political science to start, but this class was sooo boring. Julie is really nice and wants so badly for you to be interested in what she is teaching, but no one is. Most things she talks about in class aren't on the test. the reader is the test..its your key
i did better on the test than i thought i would. Lectures have nothing to do with whats on the test! if your last resort is to take her then just use your blue reader and make sure you know all the terms on the study guides and you will do fine on the tests!
i think she rates herself because its reptative 1 study hard 2weird butunteresting 3.and caring. please she dosent care aboout her students. i cant see anyone rating her with a smile face maybe just a person.
She really seems to be a sweet lady, spunky and energetic.. the grades were based on only three exams a paper and extra credit... which pretty much means study the blue reader. She didn't make showing up madatory, but sometimes can be interesting in class.
Julie Sullivan is a phenomenal teacher and human being. She makes you open your mind, book, and mouth. If you want more out of university than some easy grades, take this class.

Sullivan is a great teacher. she is a little nutso but it's hard not to love her. she doesnt want you to do bad, offers extra credit which you should take advantage of!!! dont need to go to class, but stay after tests for surpise extra credit!! i reccommend her you just have to study and memorize the study guide the night before the test!

Julie is very outgoing during her lectures. She walks around and tries to have everyone participate in the lectures. Her exams are MC,T/F,fill ins, and essay Qs. If you study the blue reading, you should get a decent grade. ;P
she says that she's open to other opinions, but its only in theory.. she makes your opinion sound stupid if it doesn't go with hers. i always participate in all classes, but when she tried humiliating me after the first week, i never talked again in class. her points are interesting, but don't try expressing your own!
She is a really essay teacher.She only gives three test for the whole semester.The study guide she gives is stremly helpful for the test so use it!!! Most of the answers for the study guide are found in the blue reader.It is really helpful you become best friends w/ that book!! Her lectures are sometimes boring but in general they were just fine.
She's interesting and funny, just avoid asking her questions. She can be a smart-ass but I wouldn't take it personally. The Blue Reader is a big deal with tests. For exams, the essay questions will kill ya if you don't prepare for them, you only have 50 min for MC/ TF/ Fill-ins AND FOUR ESSAY QUESTIONS.

I really enjoyed this class. I wasn't sure I would be too interested in it, but in the end I was. She is very open with her liberal views, which are far different from my own, but none the less she would never "humiliate" me if I politely disagreed. It's an interesting class and fairly easy too.

She's great!! I had no idea what polisci was about before the class and she really got me involved. I like argueing and she would argue with me in class about stuff, really fun! She won't really call on people if they don't wanna talk really. You don't have to go to class. all the test stuff is in the blue book and vanbell & mash
i took her as a freshmen and shes both boring and interesting. however, i got an A based on reading/studying everything in the blue reader and van&belle mash book. DEF. study every details and terms, and you will pass. make sure you read the syllabus to show up for videos viewing, there are on the midterms and finals.

Her Class is worth used toilet paper. Her class is entertaining but is useless in the test. The Books had nothing to do with the test. I do not understand why there is such a high ratio of people saying that she is great. only 2 students of the class really got into arguing and all that but the rest just sat there.

This professor needs to retire ASAP. Her lectures are boring and dreadful. Ridiculous amount of reading and she doesnt even go over the paper about a book that is not relevant to the class material. If you are really into politics you might find her rants quite interesting, otherwise try a different professor.
Prof. Sullivan is one of the nicest, most intellegent teachers I've ever met. Her class is challenging, but fulfilling. If you are lazy and want a kick back class, you probably won't like her. But if eager to learn, you will LOVE her!
Do not take this class unless you like political science. Go to class because she shows videos that you will be tested on. There is a ton of reading. Do not procrastinate! Got an A overall in the class, DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!!. I got a 76 on my first midterm and a 56 on my second, she said i got a total of 70 points in extra credit, also make sure to get 22+/25 on the papers. email her and go to office hours to show that you care. I DID NOT DO ANY READINGS AT ALLL! only book you will need is blue book!
easy A class for sure! do all the extra credit and you will be fine! the papers are a joke, i got a perfect score on almost all of them. she has her TA grade them and they usually grade hard but if she goes over it, she usually adds on more points
AMAZING PROFESSOR! very insightful and really makes you think about not only the government but the politics of people. You don't have to show up for classes but the tests are comprised of material discussed in class so it's definitely beneficial. She is just as amazing a person as a professor!
I remember when i took her class back in the day! She is by far one of the worst Poli Sci professors @ SDSU. I'm glad she's retired because there are many professors who are way better than her!! STudy guides & extra credits are useless!!
Sullivan may not be the best speaker in class or amongst S.D.S.U. faculty, the woman cares about her students and is knowledgeable.
