i wouldnt reccomend her at all
I loved Julie Tarr she was so wonderful at making Calculus understandable and I didn't have to work too hard to get a good grade.
ohhh yehhh i loved her seriously she is the best.y'all better taker her, you won't regret it..

She has to be the worst math teacher at Pima. I didn't understand anything in her class. She also likes to point people out when they looked confused. She wasn't helpful. If you need to take math, don't take her!
Best Math Teacher I've had.
Sexy Sweet Tart shirt ;) Funny, helpful and intelligent. Go to class, read your chapters and do the homework. Ask questions as soon as you feel lost she is more then willing to help you to understand the concepts. Don't ride with her mom in a car. Likes to talk to ex-students on cell phones. :)
Great teacher, really knows what she's talkin about and is very helpful
Awesome! great teacher, we had fun and we learned lots of calculus. Great to joke around with, very clear, and very willing to explain when anyone doesn't seem to get it. Great class to take! You even get a note sheet :)
she is a wonderful teacher, if you have any problems she is happy to answer them all. she will make every effort to halp you succeed in the class. highly reccomend.
The greatest math teacher EVER!!! If you are taking Math and you can get this class do it! You won't regret it!
I don't know why everybody is putting up great comments about her, but i thought she was probably one of the worst math teachers i've ever had. She gives you one example and talks about it for 20 minutes in which you get lost and has no clarity but definitions. Her review sheets not helpful. no textbook powerpoint slides? Tests are unfair & unclear
I thought she was a great teacher!! There were plenty of opportunities to earn points. She is a straight forward, clear and organized professor. She tells you exactly what she is looking for on her tests so that there are not any surprises, which is a common practice among math teachers.
The only math teacher I have ever had that was HILARIOUS. She kept me interested and laughing, even though math is the single worst subject ever. I really enjoy the class and would recommend her to other students, even if you're not particularly interested in math.
Julie is an awesome teacher! very fun. knows what she is talking about. offers a couple grading options. you can get past her class with very limited amount of work. She can also prep you for what your going to need to move on to the next level of math.
Julie is an excellent prof. She has multiply approaches to various topics which help every learning style. She's overly fair on grading and patient so you don't feel like a fool when you ask a question. I wish she was available for my next level of math this coming fall.
Great math teacher , best one i have had in a long time .
Julie helped us out a lot. She gives us a study guide that is pretty similar to the actual exam, so study the heck out of the study guide and you are bound to pass. She is also very helpful if you have questions about the material. I would definetly recommend her as a teacher, she was great :)
Instructor Tarr is the kindest math teacher I have ever had. She responds to emails quickly and is very good at helping you when you don't understand. Follow her study guides and do the required work for a grade reflective of your hard work . I would recommend her to anyone not sure they can handle math.
Awsome. Teacher easy to follow. She allows 1 page of notes on midterm and 2 on final. She is funny and will explain everything you need to understand. She will go over anything you ask her too. Best Calc Teacher!!!!
I took Julie's 5 week summer school class,a lot of work and moves very quickly (9 chapters in 5 weeks kind of fast!) Julie was very helpful and has some very funny anecdotes! She allows formula sheets (approved by her of course) in exams, and is VERY fair with her grading! I would take another Math class from her!
AWESOME TEACHER! Very funny and entertaining. Lectures are easy to follow and tests are very similar to the lectures and homework. She allows formula sheets for tests. Do your work and get an "A".
Took her summer class, and so glad I did, I *finally* passed algebra. Very clear and helpful, great for students who have trouble with math. My only complaint is that she only teaches the accelerated course & I couldn't fit it into my fall sched!
easiest class to pass calculus.. gives you cheat sheet to prepare
Great teacher, gets off on funny tangents sometimes as well
Great teacher, funny, keeps you interested, makes certain you understand everything and truly wants you to do well.
Great funny teacher! However, I'm an A student and I just couldn't manage to keep up with her teaching. She knows her stuff.. took her class because of her great ratings but her teaching just didn't provide me with what I needed.
I recommend taking calculus with her, really. She's quick, but she makes sure you know what is going to be EXACTLY on her exams. She only assigns online homework, which is pretty painless. She gives an awesome study guide before her exams.
I took it over the summer. It was fun. She is not a boring teacher...very approachable if you have questions. She has a sense of humor when it comes to naught equation.
Julie is one of those teachers that make you want to become a math teacher because she's THAT good. She is wicked smart and if you go into her office hours, she'll sit down with you and work with you until you get it. Very approachable and I highly recommend her.
She takes FOREVER to post grades. Expects way too much work for a basic math course.
She is not helpful, at times she is very abrasive and rude. She does not give any extra help for tests. The class is structured in a very confusing way which makes grading unclear and uneven. She gives absolutely no positive feedback. STAY AWAY!!
No help or guidance from her. I had to basically try to figure everything out on my own. If you have a job and class conflict she does not care or help. She claims the problems on hmwk are the same as the test, they are not. Too many "trick" quest. In the end I walked away frustrated, having learned nothing & totally unprepared for the next level.
Julie is the best math teacher(EVER!)!!! I've struggled with math forever, she made it(nearly)enjoyable w/ goofy jokes & very concise teaching. No tricks on the exams, lets you know exactly what the content will be, always will pause to re-explain if someone doesn't understand, very patient & sweet lady. I highly recommend Julie-she is FANTASTIC!!!
Very knowledgeable. She has a way of making the most complex problems easy to understand. She takes the problems from the quizzes, changes a few numbers and puts them on the tests. So for those people who think they can just memorize the quiz answers. Its not that easy. She will go over a problem multiple times if needed. She makes math fun.
I took her online and I would recommend otherwise. Yes, she gives you a study guide VERY similar to the test and, yes,I found her class very easy. However, she would post a answer key with wrong answers and you had to learn by yourself because she is hard to get a hold of. If you are not good at learning by yourself, don't take her online.
Took the course online. Discussion is optional. Homework and quizzes are online at MathXL. Midterm and final are also online at MathXL, but taken at a testing center. She posts a practice midterm and final through MathXl for a few extra credit points. If you are self-motivated, and can keep up with the deadlines, then this is an easy class.
Way to much work for Math 86. She is unavaliable and when you ask her to clarify something she will refer you to your syllabus.
Great teacher. Mostly online homework so don't get the textbook. She is funny, compassionate, and laid back in class. Group tests sometimes but it works. Do your homework, study, and you'll pass the class.
Took MAT151 online. If you can do the math with no teacher input - take this professor's class. Otherwise, you will be stuck with only MathXL to learn from. She doesn't particpate in discussions, doesn't answer student questions. All answers have to be given by other students. All she did was move grades from MATHXL to Pima's website.
Took her class online. As most online classes go, you really have to keep on top of yourself to do the work, but if I had questions, I just sent her an email and she responded both quickly and clearly. Her tests are just like the study guides. I had an optimal online class experience.
Love this teacher. Still in the class but man she makes learning easy, fun and simple. It is actually a class that i look forward to. Her teaching is straightforward (with all the explanation necessary to make sense of it all). Test are very similar to the review and quizzes are in groups. HW was online and she goes over it before and after.
Ms. Tarr is very sweet and fast. Unless you have previous knowledge and great tutor and lots of time to go on youtube to learn by yourself, don't take he class. For online classes, those are the worse even she knows that. She covers so many topics in short time. You can take C easy in her class. Her homework are unlimited errors, and flexible
I loved the way Julie taught. She was fast but thorough. I learned a lot and a lot that I already knew was simplified and explained. I would reccommend her but be prepared to do lots of HW and study. Her test are pretty tough. She allows some extra credit and extensions on the homework.
Julie is a great teacher (I wish I would have had her in high school) & she explains everything very clearly. All of the homework is done on MyMathLab & there are a few group quizzes throughout the semester. There are also tests you have to do on your own but she provides a practice test/answer key for each which is very similar to the real one.
Warning: Precalc is a weed-out class. Take 151&182 instead, unless you're a math genius. All HW in Tarr's class is online & very tedious. Good study guides, bad group work. Her teaching style wavered from bad to good. When she had a planned lecture, one of the best. But usually she just went over individual HW problems w/o giving greater context.
Julie is Amazing, She really knows her stuff. She will not JUST give you a grade you have to earn it. Work hard, study hard, and reward yourself!
Julie is very helpful! Very nice! Great personality! Makes everything very clear in regards to class expectations and grading. Makes you feel like the king of the world when you show that you are excited to be there. My favorite!
You have to be ready for a lot of homework. All the homework in on line. She provided with practice test which were really helpful. Team work too. She was willing to explain again any question. If you make the time to study and do homework you should be fine.
Julie is an extremely intelligent, thorough and helpful. Be prepared to attend class, do lots of homework and studying. All homework is through MyMathLab. This professor gives online practice tests which are very similar to the exams, and some extra credit. You will earn your grade in this class. Gave additional info to prepare for next class.
She teaches 6 classes n not have time for students in needs. If you need help, tutoring center is your best bet. She can be funny but she is tough. I like that she has sample tests that you can study on but she hold up the answer until a day or two before the test to show you; so there is not much time to study unless you solve them all yourself.
Julie is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. Yes, her classes are tough so you have to work incredibly hard, but she is so helpful in office hours and will provide you extra support if needed. She is not only so smart but also just a wonderful person. I can't say enough great things about her.
Julie is a excellent professor. College Algebra is a very difficult course, but she makes it a very passable class. She gives us a test review before every test, and the test review questions are the same ones that are on the test (just with different numbers)! If you don't do the test reviews, you won't pass. Also, do your HW or you will fail!
Lots of work needed to succeed, but she works just as hard for you. DO THE TEST CORRECTIONS for the bonus points, even if you got an A! It helps. Kind, funny & understands math can be hard, tries to help you find your strengths. Will bend over backward to help you improve. BEST math instructor I ever had. Only one I'll take for another math class!
She gives the clearest explanations of complex formulas I've ever heard, and explained many concepts in a way that really made sense for me. Her expectations are crystal-clear, and she's very friendly and accessible. If you put the time and work in that's expected, it can be a remarkably easy math class.
Very good teacher, one of the best. Explains exactly what you need to know and tests are very straight forward. Tough class if you get behind, she gives tons of extra credit to help you out. I would highly recommend this teacher. One of the best math teachers I've ever had.
Julie is a very smart instructor and she is really easy to talk to! Math is a tough subject for me but she pushed me through it and really takes time to make sure everyone understands the material. If you take initiative to learn, she will teach and you will pass.
Julie is an awesome teacher! Her lectures are very clear and she does plenty of examples for us in class. She's pretty funny and also very approachable when you have questions or need anything clarified. HW is not collected but you need to do it or her exams will be nearly impossible. I highly recommend you take Julie for math!
Julie is awesome/amazing! This is a pretty demanding course & the workload is pretty big but she makes it seem not as difficult. The criteria is like all math courses (hw,proctored exams, quizzes, discussions) but Julie is so helpful & flexible that it doesn't seem impossible to pass. She will help with ALL she can so you can pass.
I think that Julie is a great teacher(hands down!) in comparison to others I have taken. She is approachable and will answer questions. However, if I had to give anyone advise when taking this class. 1. You might a tutor (and she will tell you the same thing). Some of the material will go over your head. 2. she is picky about graphs when she grades
I liked Julie. She's understanding and wants you to succeed. You need be to prepared to come to class and for a lot of homework.
Julie was quick to respond to emails and made the content/grading very clear. She was flexible with extra credit opportunities and offered me advice when I failed the second exam, I ended up passing with a B. She makes the online experience a great one!
Julie makes online learning a breeze. Theres a lot of homework which is kind of expected and a quiz after every chapter with 3 attempts. Extra credit is offered when completion of practice exam. Online proctor is available.
Math 089 is a building block class. If you have taken math previously but can't test out this is a good class to take. Combines web and classroom and you have to do a certain amount each week. Julie is always there if you need her during class time and online. I didn't complete all of the modules, took the assessment & tested out of 151.
Julie is pretty straight forward and doesn't mess around too much, she starts class immediately and usually uses up the entire period (although, sometimes she did let us out early). She's really laid back and easy to talk too and she's a relatively easy grader. She's gives you the chance to make exam corrections on exams to boost your grade.
She is very caring about her students and is an excellent professor. I took her over summer and I highly recommend if you want to take calculus in the fall.
Loved that all of her quizzes were take home quizzes. This is calc 1, so if you don't have some background in Calculus, the class might be tough no matter what teacher you take it with unless youre a genius. Although she gives practice exams, she will challenge you with her tests. I found most of them to be challenging. I think shes a solid teacher
This class is a Emporium style similar to math89A/B. You really have to stay on top of your work and make sure you understand everything as you go along. Put the time in and you will pass, Chapter 3C, and 5B, are the hardest in the class, get ready to work! 6 chapters total, hopes this helps!
Math is one of my weakest subjects but Julie Tarr made it incredibly easy with her lectures and her direct teaching style. She is tough and she will let you know if you need help or not. She doesn't handhold and I am grateful for it. If you ask her how to be successful she is open to giving good feedback. Make sure to have a solid math foundation.
Julie is an excellent instructor that really cares about her students. You will have to put in MANY MANY MANY hours throughout the semester to pass her class but you will pass if you are willing to put them in. If you are not I really suggest you do not take the emporium style of Julie's 151 class because you will easily fall behind and fail.
Study guides and homework do not reflect the tests. Does not know how to teach. Avoid at all costs.
I took her for a 5 week MAT188 course and I am extremely disappointed with her teaching. She posted a videos that have some of the worst audio a video quality I have seen. There were NO lectures during the course and most of my questions were answered by other students. Maybe her in person class is better. I will not bother choosing her again.
She never knew our names. Teaches 151 like its Calc I'm good at math and did not understand her lectures 95% of the time. Tests were fairly easy but you have to teach yourself EVERYTHING. If you are a genius take her class. Tutors answers for quiz problems were wrong because of her high expectations which were not gone over in class. Don't take her
Julie is overall nice but her lectures only made sense to her. She does allow test corrections and she drops three of your worse homework grades. However, avoid her if you actually want to learn the material.
I thought that Julie did an excellent job of teaching this class. The material is tough, get ready to work. I had a leg up, as I had already taken math classes beyond this one. Lectures are quick, but write everything down. Go over it again. She really encourages you to work with fellow students, this is incredibly helpful. DO THE HOMEWORK!
On my way to this class I never look both ways when I cross the street because I'm hoping I'll get run over
She knows her stuff and is great at explaining. If feel like you're falling behind make sure to get help understanding it quick cause you will fall behind. I've struggled with pre-calculus for years and could never find a teacher that made it made sense but she did.
I took a 5 week course so it was a lot to learn in a short time. I wish I could have taken a normal course with here, she truly care about your success, and given more time I would have been a breeze!
I took MAT097 online. Fail one exam and there is no way to recover. No extra credit was given. Instructor does not offer any tips on how to comprehend the material. When asking for help, she repeats the information the exact same way. Ended up dropping the class. No real feedback given in discussion board (online
She offers a free textbook, I really didn't use it because I got a lot of information from the homeworks online and from her videos. The homework offers a lot of examples and explanations. As long as you watch her videos, and do the homework you'll do well on the exams. She's very understanding and nice, I highly recommend her class!
Dr. Tarr really wants students to succeed. This class is a lot of work but there are lots of opportunities to clarify the material and get outside support. I've never had a professor this attentive and caring.
The teacher gives great explanations and is always available to help you out, there is also a tutor who you can contact at any time for help, the class is test heavy, with lots and lots of home work so be prepared.
Very generous with her time. Was always looking for more ways to engage the class and provide additional help to any students who wanted it. Was very fortunate to be able to learn from her and I hope I have the opportunity to do so again.
I took her virtual class during the spring and in my opinion its so much easier to take than in person. Its a calculus class so expect difficult work and exams but she does give extra credit opportunities. Shes amazing at what she does so I recommend her if you struggle calculus like I do!
Truly a great professor. I had her for MAT097 and the video instruction was useful and mostly applied to the homework. There is a lot of homework, but no reason not to get a 100% on all of the homework assignments. She was very flexible and understanding and gave me an extension on a test when I deployed overseas unexpectedly. Would take again!
She does A LOT of work in her head. She skips multiple steps cause she does it in her head so you get lost wondering how she got something. If there is 2- 3 methods on how an equation can be solved, she will only show you 1 method because that's the one she likes/comfortable w, so if you wanna know another way you have to search them up.
While she does do a lot of steps in her mind, I've found she is very willing to repeat information and explain concepts in different ways so that more students can understand the content. She foremost wants students to succeed, both inside and outside the classroom.
Calc II, don't listen to the good ratings! Dr Tarr saves nothing from her lectures to refer back to on D2L because she does everything on the whiteboard. Works problems out fast and does a lot of steps in her head. Prepare to teach yourself at home. While she doesn't mind answering questions, save your sanity and take it with a different professor.
Julie is a nice prof however she cant teach. Her entire class dynamic is based on doing problems on the white board and doing all the steps in your head, leaving you confused. Not to mention if its a new topic say for example Integrals, she would introduce so many arbitrary methods before introducing the actual topic. Overall dont take this prof
Get ready to receive harshly graded tests and teach yourself at home w/ pimaonline videos where only 1/5th matters. I was knocked down many points on many exams for not circling my answers. She also expects students to read her mind when it comes to answering short answer questions. Forget negotiating extensions w/ a valid reason. She doesn't care.
Amazing professor! I took her 8 week online Calc 2 course. Of course Calc 2 is difficult; it's the material that's hard to grasp, and the bad course structure wasn't her fault. She was lenient with grading and extensions, and even gave out a ton of extra credit. Make sure to do your homework!!!
She seems like a good person but she does not teach, like everyone says during her in person classes she just goes through the steps maybe explains one thing then moves onto the next section. If you have not learned the subject before hand it will be confusing and you won't understand.
As long as you show effort she will support you. You will have the chance to get lots of extra work to earn extra credit. She drop lowest grades from home works, quizzes, and exams. She will give you the chance to correct your quizzes. You will be allowed to take some notes and formula with you while you're taking your exams. She's the best!
Great teacher, calc is hard but she explains well and is available during office hours, study hard and go to tutoring and you will be fine.
I took her class for MAT212- This professor was very fast and knows what she is doing but when it comes to explaining she wasn't the greatest. I personally did not like her teaching she didn't explain and I was completely lost within her class When struggling she would just reference you to tutoring vs showing that she wants to help.
The class curriculum isn't determined by Professor Julie so in general Caclulus I is hard. Lots of Homework and tests. She is very caring and super helpful! I have taken Calculus many times and didn't pass, but I became comfortable asking for help from her as she never made me feel behind/dumb. Answers emails quick too and will explain topics
Took her for Calc 2. She does do things in her head, but she'll explain them if you ask. Her tests are really easy, and the homework prepares you well for them. She's very caring and very human, she'll give you extensions for anything you need more time on.
Very test heavy. She gives clear expectations for what she wants on the tests and how everything should be done. She provides study guides which cover what type of questions will be on the exam. Read the textbook and do the HW! She is very understanding and is quick to reply to emails. She notices when students put in the effort so put your all!
Dr. Tarr is from I hear a great teacher for any MAT class under calculus. I took her Calculus 2 course. I would not recommend taking her class. You will have to teach yourself everything. Be prepared to spend double the recommend amount of time on this course. You will be dialed in Calc 2 at the end of this course.(On your own ofc)
I regretted taking her class. She explains poorly, and you'll need huge extra effort—around four hours of study daily—to pass. She's a harsh grader with little extra credit and very hard exams. She shows no concern for students' understanding and often skips class, sending an unqualified substitute who doesn't know the subject I don't recommend it.
The butchest butch lesbian and the best math teacher to ever exist. Julie was full of lore and advice, and I would often strike up a conversation about life and whatnot if I ran into her on campus. She was also a great teacher, and I finished calc 2 with a 100% as my final grade. She drops the lowest exam score at the end of the semester.
From my experience, Professor Tarr wasn't a bad teacher. However, she seemed constantly too busy to help. On multiple occasions I asked for help and about a week later her response would be "Sorry, I didn't have time for this". I believe she is a good professor but I think this semester she had too much on her plate.
