Great Prof. Make sure you do the assignments on time and email her a lot of your drafts. She was very very helpful and gave me quick and helpful advice on all of my papers.

I took her course with a friend and we are both really pleased with her as a professor! Work hard and you will do fine.

Gives lots of work, but will also give lots of help and feedback while revising drafts, if you give her your papers. Gives more work than most professors.

She has her good and bad traits. She's SO helpful and will meet any time. However, she says thing are wrong with papers, and when you try to fix them, she's still not satisfied. More strict then a lot of writing teachers but you learn a lot.

Good class to take if you want to learn the right way to write. At times, there is a lot to do but overall it's a good class.

very nice proff. Gives her honest opinon on your work and your grade genuiunly reflects your work. Class does get a bit boring at times and you need more time to write in class, however considering its a required class I am glad that she was my proff.

Not a bad class but it is boring, but it's writing so what do you expect? Gives you all the assignments early so you can get them done early. Easy class

She's a nice person. Very helpful, but kind of annoying. She wants everyone to do well, but watch out for the Completed and Polished draft due dates. If you don't have them done, then you automatically fail. Stay on top of your work, but you can get by writing your completed drafts the night before.

Easy class. She helps out a lot if you get your papers to her in time for her to look over. Picky on attendence and having your papers in on time, but she gives you a syllabus for what you'll be doing every day of the semester, so that helps. Really good teacher.

Julie was very helpful but it was almost as if she cared too much. She was sort of a nag...constant emails and telling us we were going to fail. But I did see my work progress.

Professor Julie White, is hands down the best professor at GVSU that I have ever had. She reaches out to every student and gets to know them. She loves when you go to class, and you will benefit from the class if you attend. For the semester we wrote 4 papers. I definetly recommend her for WRT 150!

Hard but a great teacher and good resource. Pretty strict but only because she wants you to know the information and do well on her portfolio. She also doesn't have any homework or busy work, just a few readings in the green book and then drafts. she loves drafting.

Sheis by far the best professor that I have ever had at GVSU. I had her last fall and still use what she taught me in her class in my other courses. She is AMAZING not to mention HOT! Take her! She is very understanding too, real easy to talk to.

Writing 150 is a difficult class and Prof. White really pushes you to write not only good but great papers. She is difficult but extremely helpful! She also genuinely cares about her students and their lives and is willing to help them even after they have taken her class. Favorite prof. I've had so far! Take her, shes great!

I honestly didn't like her, but one day she went up to me and said she believed in my writing. She really helps you become a talented writer! Make sure you attend class, because thats what lowered my grade. Boring, but useful.

She is extremely knowledgeable about the topic. I have no doubt that I got in to med school because of her help. She was brutal on my personal statement but clearly she knew what she was talking about so my advice is to listen to her. She pushed me hard and that made all the difference in me getting my applications in on time. She is amazing!

I LOVED Julie. She really made it clear she was there to help pass this dreaded class. Her feedback and many fieldtrips to the library are the reason I believe I passed this class. I HIGHLY recommend taking her if you feel you struggle with writing. She really is a HUGE help!

She is extremely helpful and wants you to do very well in the class. Although she is tough when she edits your papers, in the end it is going to help your portfolio grade. She had extended online office hours which was nice if you were working on something at home and had questions. She is great and wants you to receive a good grade!

She is clear on the 3 papers you have to write an always available to help. You don't turn in any assignments that get graded just rough drafts that she makes comments on. Your grade is from 3 papers at the end of class? To get a good grade you need to be willing to write MANY drafts. If you don't miss a day she will plus your grade at the end.

Professor White is a very tough professor when it comes to grading. She's not afraid to tell you that your paper is terrible and needs to be redone. She's more than happy to assist you with your paper if you're struggling but you have to ask! I would take her again for another course, and suggest you take her.

I became a better writer because of her. She is known for having higher grades on her portfolios (each class has 3 papers graded at the end of the year by two teachers). She is willing to help and was such help when I went to her office hour once. Although all writing classes are long she lets you out early. Also she is very nice and cares.

Writing 150 is not an easy class by any means. If you want above a C, definitely take Julie. She will make you work and push yourself but it will be worth it at the end of the semester. An A is very rare in WRT150 but very possible with her!

Best professor I've ever taken. Julie is so kind and fun to be around. She made me love WRT 150, which is amazing. Is she tough? Absolutely. Due dates are final, critiques are harsh, but this is all because she cares about you and your grade. If you want an easy class, don't take her. But if you want better than a C, I can't recommend her enough.

Dr. White was a great teacher. One day a student began to have a full blown panic attack in the middle of her lecture... She was literally freaking out.. Dr. White calmly walked over and helped the girl, then focused back onto lecture within 5 minutes. She's inspirational.

Be ready to work, but she cares about her students and helping them improve

Julie really cares and always says "once a student, always a student." Therefore, she can be very motherly and wants to help. However, I found her to be very annoying at times and she was hard to listen to for 2 hours. Gives you more homework than other WRT 150 teachers, too. Thinks writing is the world, so can be a tough grader.

Truly inspirational prof! She is always there to help you with your papers! Take her ONLY if you want to learn and can handle constructive criticism because she makes you work to earn your grade. However, you will not regret it, as she is one of the toughest graders in the writing department but tends to give her students the "upper hand"!

Professor White comes off kind of harsh but it's only because she WANTS you to succeed. I'm not a great writer by any means.. well at least i thought i wasnt.. until she helped me with all of my weak spots. Don't be afraid to ask for help or go to a writing consultant. WRT 150 is just a horrible class all around, but Julie White was so helpful and made the class a little more bearable. She is seriously available 99.99% of the time and will review your papers as many times as you want. All classes are graded on 3 papers, but julie does give you a 4th option if you don't like one of the main 3. Would take her again

i adored this professor, best i've had at GVSU so far. she cares about all her students, gives excellent feedback for your papers, and has clear goals throughout the semester that are especially helpful for procrastinators like me. i never really enjoyed english/writing classes but by the end of the semester she had me wanting to minor in writing.

Julie will push you to do your absolute best. She really cares about students and has a lot of availability to work with students. I didnt consider myself a good writer but improved SO MUCH after taking her! Shes great! Organized class, sets goals, and helpful lectures.

WRT 150 is a lot of work, no matter what professor you take, so I can't blame the work load on her. She genuinely cares about all of her students and will always be there to help!

She really cares about the grades of students and helps push you to be the best you can be. She has the entire semester outlined in the syllabus which she prints off and gives to you, and is very clear about what is due. She also plays music before class.

LOVE PROFESSOR WHITE. Writing 150 is a hard class in general because you are only graded on 3-4 papers, but Professor White gives you all the necessary tools to be successful in this class. She gives great feedback and is VERY willing to work with you to get you to where you want to be. Everything she teaches you has a purpose. She is THE BEST.

She also gave us lots of time in lab to work on our paper revisions when she could help us. I tried to get her for creative writing but she doesn't teach that class. I strongly appreciate White as a prof before entering WRT 150. Since she teaches both classes, she's always open to share advice & help students prepare for 150 without surprises. Her 098 is still not exactly a "blow-off" class because she grades somewhat intensely on essays but all feedback is helpful and you WILL learn how to be a better writer!

Professor White structures her classes in a fashion which equally disperses student workload across the semester, which helps a lot when finals week approaches. In general, Professor white offers many opportunities in and out of class from herself and writing consultants to help with writing papers for the class, and just writing in general.

Work load was a little heavy but her homework activities are pretty easy. As long as you participate and do the homework you can easily keep a 100% until turning the portfolio in. Her instructions were very straight forward and easy to understand. Has a few short assignments every week along with 4 main papers. Is quick at giving good/useful feedback. Genuinely cares about her students success and encourages practicing self care wherever you can. I hate writing but I would take her class again solid 8.5/10.
