Cool guy, class isn't that hard as long as you know the terms and can at least basically understand the things taught, which also isn't hard. Honestly I day-dreamed A LOT and still understood what was going on.

Great professor. Made class interesting. Tests were easy as long as you studied the material. No trick questions.

Great teacher. A few classes he can be boring, but for most of a semester the man is very informative, and does care about the students needs. You won't regret taking him.

Class is SO boring, but notes are minimal, and he gives you a 1pg study guide which is IDENTICAL to the test. He picks questions and definations, so as long as you study, you're set.

Take this class, show up once a week, pass VERY easily. Test are simple....he gives you an outline EXACTLY the same as the test, very cool guy also..lecture is dry and boring but it's easy credit and helpful

Really enjoyed this class, subject matter was a bit boring but he kept things interesting, very nice guy! Tests were straight forward, grading fair. Definitely will take him again

This guy is truly one of the best professors at U of M Dearborn. Easy class, easy tests, basically u can skip a majority of class, just get someones notes and you'll pass the class with a A. Teacher is a nice guy, I recommened this professor to anyone.

A nice professor, a class that's easy because the content is very clear and his lectures and notes are self-explanatory. BUT extremely boring. I fell asleep 2/3 of the time. Term Paper is a pain in the rear though.

Pretty simple class overall. Readings were easy to understand. Gave the class the questions that were going to be on exams beforehand. Wonderful teacher!!!

Professor Borquez is a great teacher. He is the nicest guy. He tries to make a somewhat boring subject entertaining. Not a bad class.

I didn't particularly enjoy the lectures, but the tests are not hard. He gives you a handout of what will be on the exam. He is a nice guy, however.

Good class, the lectures were at times dry, but he incorporates videos, and a book into the course material. Study guides make the tests easy, but you really have to prepare for the essays. I would take his class again

He is easy to understand and shows alot of videos, just read some of the book and pay attention to lectures and you will ace the easy essay questions exam. Also one easy paper due about 6-7 pages , just regurgitate what you read and heard.

I enjoyed this class. The lectures are directly related to the assignments and anything extra that he put in was greatly appreciated. His grading on essay questions is very forgiving, if you get the main points.

This class tended to get a bit boring, which Prof Borquez has no way to avoid in this subject. It is not a hard class, be sure to memorize the study guide. Prof Borquez is a really nice guy and knows his stuff.

He gives a study guide and all you have to do is answer the essays. He is a very generous grader on exams & papers. Don't stress about the presentation b/c if you partcipate then your guarnteed full credit. His class is extremely boring but its an easy class and there isn't lots of work to worry about. I will take him again in a heart beat.

Do what you should be doing and you'll be fine. He's always available for extra help or anything you need. He's very passionate and knowledgeable. You won't regreat taking a class with him, as long as you pay attention and do what you're supposed to do.

Prof. Borquez is an excellent professor. Lectures mainly from the book. Busts a few jokes to keep the students interested. Gives a study guide & sample essay questions for his exams. If you prepare from them you will do just fine.

the only thing boring about his class is the amount of people who put little to no effort into it and just write off politics as boring. This class gives you back what you put into it. The only problem with Julio is that he doesn't really care about opinions, and those are what make politics the most fun.

He is BORING but he is the easy way out. After I took his course I really hated POLS b/c of how boring he made it. He is much easier then the other instructors. He's very generous on grading exams & papers. He is slow on returning assignments. Overall, he's not bad.

Decent class...At times can be boring. Not hard if you follow the study guides for tests. IF you don't bother to look at them then you will suffer. Takes a VERY long time to return items.

Easy grader. Terribly boring. Takes very long to return assignments/exams. I'm glad I had statistics before this course because I think I would be completely lost if I was relying on him teaching it. But as I said he's an easy grader. You'll want to take him for any POL SCI class you're taking.

He has CRAZY hair! But in all seriousness, he's a good guy. Somewhat of an easy grader and the class wasn't the most exciting, but hey....my only major complaint is amount of time it took grading and returning assignments, sometimes it took monthes. I would take him again, if I had the chance!

The ONLY complaint ppl can have is that it took about a month to get back exams and papers. Otherwise he is a wonderful guy, very fair and he basically hands you the exam a week ahead of time in the form of a study guide. Just follow that and your set.

This is the second class I had him for. AWESOME professor, easy and fun lectures. Easy exams, basically memorize essays. VERY helpful and he knows his stuff. Yes he has crazy hair but he's the nicest professor around. Get to know him! He's EXTREMELY helpful and will take as many classes as I can with him again.

Great personality and gets to the point in his lectures and notes. Gives study guide for test with everything you need to know on it. Generally like 6 terms and two short essays on test. Pay attention in class, review your notes and read specific areas of the text once you get the study guide and you'll have no problem getting an A. Take this class

Great teacher. He knew that the subject is rather boring so he kept discussions short and to the point. Easy grader and assignments are very easy to understand.

Professor Borquez is a genius concerning politics and government. If you have no interest in the subject, you won't pick up on that. For those who do, you will find his classes provide a wealth of information. Definitely take his courses if you are a political science major. For others, I think they would miss the value and focus on the easy grade.

His classes are very straight forward if you follow the guidelines and keep up with the work you should be able to do fairly well in his class. I would recommend taking him at some point.

One of the best teachers that I've had in 3 years at UMD. He knows his stuff and makes class interesting. I've had 2 classes with him so far and both of them were great. He gives you study guides with the exact questions that will be on the test (mostly essay). For Poly Sci. majors and those interested in Poly Sci he is a must take!

Great teacher, crystal clear, very fair grader. Very down to earth, doesnt talk down to you, makes the class fun at times. His lectures can be boring, but just bare through it and get it done! Great professor, I just had him and his class was great. He gave about four exams including the final and assigned two papers and we chose one of the two to write. I aced the papers and murdered the exams. The lowest exam grade I received was an 88% all after that were 95% and higher. TAKE HIM, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Also had him for POL 311 and POL 328. Easy grader, but takes a long time to return things. Each course had a 10 page term paper and all tests are essay format. He doesn't care at all about attendance. He will give you the handouts if you miss any days. Also not too concerned about due dates. You can pretty much teach yourself off of the handouts.

He's great! Takes forever to get papers graded, but when you get them, chances are it was graded very easily. Exams are word-for-word from the study guide. Attendance not mandatory, and you don't need the book.

Great guy! If you have an emergency or just need more time, he is the most understanding professor. Tests are easy and he is an extremely fair grader!

The kindest professor at UMD. He cares whether you learn, relates well with his students, good sense of humor, fun to interact with. So glad to have taken 3 classes with him, wish there were many more. I think he is a fair grader - not threatened like other professors on power trips. He cares - if you can take his classes, you should.

Very good professor. As long as you do the reading you will be fine when it comes to papers and exams. I think political science is an incredibly boring subject to study, and I got an A in the course. Laid back and humorous guy.

By far the best professor I have had at a junior level. He is hilarious and most definitely in his own world but that makes the class fun. I did minimal work, showed up to class and listened to what he said and received an A. Anyone and everyone should take at least one or two classes with Julio if you can. Also, very understanding and caring.

Very easy laid back teacher. For sure take him if you can. Attendance is not mandatory at all it can help though. 3 exams that he gives study guides that are just like the exams with just less questions and 1 easy paper. I just bought the main book and I did great.

Borquez is the man! He has a very odd sense of humor, but I must say the class was interesting. Attendance isn't really mandatory, but can help. Three exams (with study guides that mirror the exams) and a paper (two to choose from). Take this class, and anyways you'll learn something about our government!!! Who wouldn't want that?

He is the best professor ever! So friendly and easy, his assignments are clear and straight forward and for essays he even offers to read your drafts and give you feedback before you hand in the final version! Easy grader and really easy exams if you study!

Borquez was a cool guy. His test aren’t hard. He gives a midterm and a final. Study guides for both. He only assigns 2 papers that were very interesting and easy to write. I would recommend taking him especially if you’re interest in politics. I dont like politics and I DON’T regret taking this class. Cool experience

Nice professor, however it is NOT an easy A like they say. It's not hard but it's very time consuming, you're required to read four small books, all of them. 10 page term paper comes from the books, and all of the exams are from lecture and books.

Seriously best professor ever! He's the reason I changed my major to Polsci. His lectures are interesting and very informed. He gives printed outlines for each topic he discusses, and before each test he hands out a study guide that lays out the test. If you are willing to study that paper you will do well!

class is extremely easy, attend lectures or at least get the handouts. essays are exactly the same as the prompts he gives you beforehand. professor is kind, but dull. overall good class.

Class is an EASY A. 2 papers(4-6 pages), 1 midterm & final(short answer & essay). He is forgiving with grading as long as you include everything & show that you understand the material. Study guides are given before every exam. If you are not interested in Politics you will get bored. Don't buy the book. Loved his sense of humor. FUN CLASS!

Don't buy the actual textbook, but do buy the two smaller ones. It was extremely easy, all you have to do is show up and make sure you pay attention. Midterm and final exam are all definitions and short essays. Professor is quite friendly and knowledgeable.

Borquez is the man. Very easy grader, and a very easy course. 2 exams and 2 papers that were graded pretty easily and it the material was pretty interesting

Julio Borquez is a fantastic professor. I've had him twice now. He's very clear as to what he expects. His tests aren't overwhelming by any means, and almost all the material on them come strait from the handouts he gives you. He's very fair, and is worth taking if you're interested in political science.

One of the best professors at the University, you learn all the material needed for the test by attending the class and reading the books. The tests are very reasonable and he helps the students succeed in the class.

Professor Borquez is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is a very kind and down to earth professor who understands that we need leeway and extensions from time to time. For each exam he assigns, he gives a study guide first and chooses a few questions off the study guide for the exam. only problem is he takes 5-7 weeks to grade exams.

Dr. Borquez is super cool and laid back. His attempts to be funny is actually quite funny. He lets you turn in the assignments when you want, and isn't cranky about it if you do. 2 exams, 1 term paper. "Those who stay will be champions."

Professor Borquez was an amazing choice for me as I have a hard time paying attention to anything that isn't math or science. He kept class interesting and had very clear grading criteria. You write 2 papers and have 2 exams. The exams are all essay and he gives you five possible questions and he picks 3 out of the five. Easy A!

Mixed feelings, but overall I had great experience and great grades in both his classes. His voice can put me to sleep and his lectures are a tad boring but his tests are easy. He gives you the questions beforehand and picks a couple for the exam. The POL 300 term project seems hard at first, but he helps you every step of the way. Easy grader.

Best Political Science professor at the University. Clearly explains grading criteria and course expectations. Grades very fairly and treats all of his students with great amounts of respect. I took him for POL 300 as well and the experience was fantastic. If you have the opportunity to take Professor Borquez do it, he is worth your time.

Professor Borquez is great. There were 2 tests that were essay only, but he is very clear about the material covered prior to the exam, so if you study, you will pass. There was a term paper that does require some effort, but he walks you thru every step. And there were a few simple homework assignments. I would definitely take his class again.

Provides clear/interesting paper prompts and the exams are very straightforward. Super friendly/caring... truly unmatched by no other professor! Loved going to his class.

Professor Borquez is honestly one of the most kind and considerate professors I have ever had. He's very flexible about deadlines, very understanding and loves to crack jokes during his lectures. I highly recommend taking a course with him

Julio is a very lighthearted soul. He's very knowledgeable and insightful, and his classes are a joy to take. He prints out the notes for you, so don't bother with a laptop or a notebook. Follow him along & listen to what he says. Exams aren't hard, he gives a study guide. Start the paper early, it might take you a while to finish. Taking him again

A good prof. Chill dude. 2 papers (around 7 pgs) on entire books. He does give instructions (specific tho). 2 exams (Basic terms to remember/ tough essay topics). Would recommend but be prepared for the long, boring, 3hr nightly class. Gives some notes b4 every class.

A really good, smart and chill guy. He clearly explains what to do so if you work you will do well. The writings can get tough and you may feel lost on where to find informationnnn. Lectures boring. If you are mostly up to date on politics or find it interesting, this will be a piece of cake for you.

PROS: *Extremely funny individual *Class is two exams and two papers *You honestly don't need to buy the books CONS: *Staying awake during night lectures CONCLUSION: *The exams have 10 definitions (pick 8) and two essay questions so it's pretty straightforward. Make sure to stay ahead and organize your notes well.

Borquez is a fantastic professor. He's very easy going but very knowledgeable. He won't bombard you with homework but you'll still learn a lot. His class was very chill & he makes it pretty interesting with videos & sites that he uses in class. Very caring and understanding and will work with students if they need more time on a paper. 2 papers & tests both of which are very easy and he outlines them both very clearly. Lectures can be kind of long especially at night but bring just coffee

Professor Borquez is one of my favorite professors at UMD. His classes are pretty easy, and he is a very lenient grader. I also needed more time for a paper and he gave me a 4 day extension no questions asked. Borquez is a great guy and I would recommend him to anyone.

Can't stress enough how important it is to pay attention to his lectures. The papers and tests are IDENTICAL to what he covers in class. You can use his talking points without any citation so you don't have to spend hours researching what to write on the papers. Just be attentive, don't be on your phone/laptop, and you'll easily get an A.

One of the best professors I have ever had. He does amazing lectures in which students can actually understand the content he is teaching and he adds some humor in there which is even better. Exams are a couple free response questions which are given out before hand to prepare. Very easy. Highly recommend, would take again.

Professor Borquez is the definition of a good professor. You can get by if you miss a few lectures (which I def did) but the lectures are worth it for sure. I took him in two classes, this being the lower level course, and I like the way he adjusts his teaching method based on the level he's teaching. One of the best profs at UMD in my opinion.

Very good Professor who grades fairly (tbh a little too fairly sometimes) and tells you what is expected of you. He clearly cares about his students and how they do in the course, and wants you to learn. It's very hard to do badly in his course if you actually put effort in. Gives great lectures.

This is my first review of a professor, and it is well deserved. I cannot say enough good things. He's very understanding, you can get by w.o going to every class but his lectures are super helpful. 2 exams, 1 hw (which helps you prepare for paper and isn't graded), 1 research paper (mostly data & tables). A++

One main term paper, 2 mini assignments, and 2 exams. Super easy, but he talks a lot. He's so nice and truly cares for his students. He's willing to help with everything. As long as you show up to the lectures or read the assigned readings instead, you'll pass with an A.

All of the reviews are correct; they speak for themselves. The class is an easy A; just show up to lectures and you will be fine. Lectures can get boring, probably should bring some coffee, but would take him over any polysci professor in a heartbeat.
