Prof. Marzan was a very good teacher, I learned alot in his class when I took it in Sept of 2002. I Really enjoyed his class!
i have this prof now and find him very obnoxious although infromative. talks to the students in a condosending tone that makes them us stupid. Grades very hard on the essays but let me rewrite them for a better grade. def not hot, Espositio is awesome!
very mean to everyone of his students. he basically tells u that u cant go anywhere in life & that were stupid(he has called us stupid many times)so unless u want to leave his class crying and feel like u have no purpose in this world then stay away
This class is a lot of work. He definitely looks down upon his students, but at the same time he isnt that bad of a professor. if you do your work and show up to class, he'll pass you. if you take his class..remember not to be intimidated by him.
I have him right now and he's horrible. His theory about teaching: "I am not here to teach you, I am here to refresh whatever you read on your own." Funny, because I thought that our teachers were supposed to teach us. Oh and he calls us stupid
professor marzan is a horrible teacher. He grades everyone as if we already have a four year degree and are all majoring in English. Maybe he got made fun of to much and feels he needs to get some revenge or something.

He is by far the WORST professor at NCC. He doesn't care about the students, he doesn't explain what he teaches and is self absorbed in his own opinions and thoughts. Stay clear of this old miserable man, drop him on the first day.
Ok this is the deal with Prof. Marzan. If you take him for Latin American Literature, you will quikly ffind out that he is brilliant. He really is mean sometimes and kinda unfair, but if you can get passed that hes brilliant.

I had Marzan about 3 years ago. I came back to this site JUST FOR HIM. He is garbage, seriously. This man loves to put everybody in the class down, only to raise himself. He uses a book in which, for some reason, his works are published. He was unhelpful, insulting, and not worthy of teaching.
Its true, he puts you down and he is an ****. If you get him, do the work and participate. thats what i did and i got a B+ if you stick it out until the end he respects you and lays off you. let me tell you, its quite the acomplishment to actually stay in that class the whole term though.

This man is insane. He ****ed up the entire shcedule so everyone reads the wrong chapters and fails the quizes and he refuses to believe that he made a mistake when the entire class says that he clearly said some different the day before. DROP THIS MAN YOU RLIFE DEPENDS ON IT!!!!!
I rememeber having this teacher 2 years ago. Biggist A**hole ever. Had to leave his course because of attitude and difficult work. His nickname I gave him was the Spanish Nazi. Everytime he talks, he slaps the desk like there was a little girl in the room. Believe me he's heartless. Avoid Him.
he is always late and procedes to call u all stupid the first day of class. he thinks he is a hip professor because he curses. the first paper he'll read the entire thing all the other papers he only reads the first page or so and grades u on that. u can fill ur second half of ur paper with jiberish
Marzan obviously knows what he is talking about. But you dont get that because he is to busy putting the whole class down. He's such a miserable person.He gives out a syllabus that he never goes by.Honestly, avoid him at all cost. I wish I did.
Marzan is easy.. If you have a brain. Unlike most people who go to Nassau. His class isn't easy, and it shouldn't be. It's college. Not nursery school.

He is a bit harsh, but he is real and practical. Pay close attention to what he is saying, he teaches more than ENG he is a good guy dont **** in his classroom, talk to him outside of class and you should get a good grade. Most important dont be so sensitive,if he said it, it's for your own good

If you want a stressfull semester than you can take this teacher. Not one ounce of encouragment, sympathy or anything thing else that is nice. Always puts down the students.

this guy is very unpleasant. He makes you feel singled out, and tells people that they cant read and write, even though he never seen us write, and he tries to make you feel like an idiot. Since day 1 we have been doing the same thing and i haven't learned anything. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR!!!
shit this man expected a lot from you. he provided you with the information to give him wat he wanted but it was still hard as hell. i learned a**** load from him - and if u can handle some work you will get a ton out of his class

This guy spends most of the class patronizing students. You never want to meet him.
I loved him. Don't be fooled when he first walks into the class. He may be a little old, but he is a really nice man. You can see he enjoys teaching his classes! Don't buy the textbook because he spends the whole class time telling you about the stories you read the night before, and the authors. I also had him 8 O'Clock in the morning!!!

Lets get something straight people. This is college. Stop whining like a bunch of 10th graders about how he's so mean and so hard. Plus this is NCC not harvard get over yourselves. He is mean, his class is hard but if you do the reading and put effort into your essays then you'll do well. PLUS he lets you REWRITE all your papersat theend PLZUBABYS
He is an excellent professor that teaches more about life than anything else. The class isn't difficult if you do the readings and hand in the essays. This guy doesn't take kindly to **** and will have no problem singling you out. At times he might seem critical and pessimistic but all of his observations hold some truth. Highly recommend!
He is very rude. he doesn't know how to talk to people. he will put you down and use profanity. be prepared. if you answer a question wrong, he will put you down, and discourage you.

Extremely unfair and unreasonable. Doesn't teach about the actual topic. Not clear about what he actually wants. Just be prepared for insulting comments.
Come to class prepared, pay attention, and do your work. You will survive. Nobody gets a free ride in this class and that's how it should be. He taught straight from the book. He ripped people apart who did not demonstrate basic knowledge of grammar. Stuff they should have learned in elementary school. He doesn't cater to precious snowflakes.
Not the worst class ever. He's tough but if you pay attention and do your homework you'll be fine. He's late every day though which is kind of annoying.

Keeping reminding the students tha NCC is not a real school. Uses profanity during class and yet he emphasizes on ahigher use of diction. Drop him, he is not worth the time. As the Queens Lauret I expected more. I was dissapointed in the way he teaches.

If you consider yourself a college student and want to learn and be challenge then he is the professor for you. He is very demanding because he wants you to realize what your capable of doing. Most of us think he is errogant and ignorant because he demands too much when in realty he is just trying to help us bcause we are the ignorant N stupid ones

He's very strict and not very friendly. Don't bother taking him if you don't plan on doing the work.
At first he is a great guy but this teacher is really reallly STRICT. Point blank if you dont have your homework he kicks you out, if you dont have your text book he kicks you out, if you dont have a AMERICAN HERITAGE DICTIONARY he kicks you out!!!

When taking this class it is important to keep in mind that you are in college, because Prof. Marzan treats you like you are in college. He expects college level work from his students like every professor should. Overall if you have an interest in getting deep insights into literature and can do college level work then you'll be fine.
I have been in college for many years and I fully understand that hard work needs to be put forth. I'm in nursing school and work hard in every class. With that said, Marzan is useless, rude, swears in class, doesn't believe NCC to be a "real" college, calls students stupid and worthless. Avoid him. He is unnecessarily rude and over bearing.
if your looking for an A dont take this guy cause you pretty much need to be perfect to be in his class. No one got hight than a C+ in the class. He is a real jerk about everything and belittles all his students even the ones who try and participate. In the middle of all that you MIGHT learn something but i WOULDNT try signing up for his class.
English is one of my best subjects..but he is the biggest a$sh0le pos i have ever met, He walked into the class late one time and said "sorry i was at chemotherapy" and started hysterically laughing as if it was a joke and has no empathy for anyone else, he is miserable, however he does know what he is talking about and is very tough. This is the worst professor ever. He's condescending basically says only dunce student comes to NCC. He reads everything himself because he doesn't think anyone else can read. He talks about watching Mad Men (the TV show) all the time & doesn't teach. Don't take him!
Definitely need a lot of patience to make it through his class (also helps if you do the work and participate). Can be extremely insulting at times.
i have never experienced a professor like him before. he is extremely condescending, his tests and quizzes are ridiculous. I will say that he is very knowledgable, but i would DEFFINATLEY recommend NOT taking him. i cannot stress this enough. please, i am not kidding.

When he speaks, what he says might come off as if he is poking fun at your lack of intelligence but if your mature then it shouldn't bother you. He treats us like college students so if you just do the work you will survive

He often becomes very critical of student's character. He often goes off topic to scold and rebuke the class when he is not satisfied. Be prepared to be talked to like a middle school student. Spare your GPA and heed my warning: avoiding registering his classes. Many in my class have tried to appeal to the Dean but to no avail. I hope this helps.
I took the class to learn how to write about literature. I learned nothing of the sort, or anything else for that matter! All he does is rant on how the students can't do anything right, are unable to read or write, and how they will go nowhere. Doesn't teach you anything. His class is a waste of time and you deserve more respect as a student.
Always explains how he wants the essay then when you ask how exactly does he want it he'll tell you a complete different and makes it even more confusing and you can't even take notes. Then he'll say if you have questions email him but when you email him he doesn't reply or asks if you have a problem with reading comprehension.
good luck passing. prof. changes criteria of papers numerous times, even durring same class when asked. never teaches only harps on 18 yr old ignorance. any learning is done in book @ home. constantly talks down to students,feels students are inferior. conflict of interest, uses the book he was published in!!! will kill GPA!!!!
His syllabus is misleading and assignments on essays are given with ambiguity. He contradicts himself all the time and his lectures are basically condescending rants about how this generation is basically doomed to exist. Very PRETENTIOUS and SANCTIMONIOUS. I learned nothing from him.
Professor Marzan does not enjoy his job and it shows. He degrades students, a control freak and highly disrespectful. He makes students feel dumb and uneducated. His lectures usually go into left field and he talks about politics and what's wrong with Americas youth today. Halfway into the semester I dropped because we weren't learning anything.
Though intimidating at first, I really enjoyed Professor Marzan and his class. Everything said in class really struck a chord with me and I could apply almost every reading and class discussion to my everyday life. Professor Marzan inspired me to better myself and work hard. Without a doubt, one of the best professors I've had at NCC.
It took some getting use to his method of teaching since he comes across as crude and condescending . However, if you can get pass that I must admit that his lectures were informative and conducive to life experiences. He clearly explains the work & challenges you beyond your capabilities. If you are looking for an easy grade he is not for you.
Dr. Marzán is and an amazing professor. He is extremely clear and helpful. Not only does he provide profound insight on the English language, but you will leave his class reflecting on your habits, entertainments, goals, and time spent in academia. The users who gave him a poor review seem to believe they are in an extension of high school.
By far the worst proffoser i have ever had. I learned nothing in this class. All he did was lecture to us about how bad we are and were not taken serious if we go to Nassau. He gives pop quizs every class on the short stories we read but the questions have nothing to do with the story... Please drop this class before its to late!!!
NO, do not do it to yourself. Him personally is so rude, he degrades students and for what? I come to class to learn not to listen to what u think about me or other students. His assignments are misleading and the syllabus. I passed his class, but boy the obstacles I had. Don't waste your time. He needs to reevaluate himself...
Guy really has to chill out. I understand that this is his passion and what he loves but he needs to realize that I'm not a literature major, I'm there to learn some skills he has to offer and move on with my life. Not get tormented and degrated for the fist 30 minutes of class everyday because our essays don't fufill his impossible standards.
