Not someone you'd prefer for any subject. Book is very boring/expensive. Tough essay exams. He's very boring, sarcastic, monotone, and he boasts an aura of arrogance. Avoid this professor at all cost unless you're a Philosophy major and you're extremely desperate to fill in your credits.
This instructor is very good. I already have a graduate degree and take philosophy courses for the sake of knowledge and he is top quality. His tests may be a little to advanced for the city college level, hence the lower rating from the previous person. If you want a challenge take this prof.
"Ooo I have a graduate degree and this is too advanced for city level" Dude get over yourself there's plenty of people smarter than you working at McDonalds.Who cares about your masters.Torres is not arrogant, nor hard, but boring. He makes looking at paint dry entertaining.People slept in class 24/7!
Great insturctor! Topics can be a little boring at times, but tries to include examples students can relate to. Tries hard to retain students interest, but obviously can't force someone to learn something they aren't interested in.
This class was dreadfully boring. Everyone in class would fall asleep. I would try not to but it was tough. I mean hes a nice man and knows his stuff... but just because you know your stuff doesnt mean you should teach. Although, I gotta give him some credit for at least TRYING to put some humor in his lectures.
He is awesome. He likes you to READ so you can talk in class. It is boring if you don't make the effort. I love him and wish I could take more classes with him!!
Be very precise in your answers.
If you are interested in philosophy and are competent in English, take Professor Torres. Unlike what most of the dimwitted tards have written about him, he is interesting and intellectually stimulating. If you are in it for an easy A, don't take him. If you want to be challenged and actually learn, have fun!
Awww i like him. He loves teaching, I love anyone with that passion! A+
TOugh Class! Im an A/B student...this class did not make snese at all. You think you haev the right answer...but you really dont. It plays with your mind. Its a TOughie...I got a D :(! GOod LUCk FOlkS!

not a good teacher. very hard man. u gota be all into philosophy to get this guy.
In all honesty you must be a moron to fail his class. All you need to do is present two intelligent essays to pass his and Critelli's duo class. There's honestly really nothing to it. Morons need not apply if you're not even in English 101. Go somewhere else...preferably high school.
stunning, a joy. loved every minute and never missed a class. a must for any motivated student who wants a good challenge. he is a rarity at LACC, he could have moved well past the community college level long ago and anyone who think clearly and wants to learn should take this or any of his other classes.
The best teacher I ever had. It's a joy to meet someone so intelligent and pleasant. Enjoyed every second of his classes. Took his class a year ago and still remember every discussion. He is a brilliant teacher.
I took his philosophy 6, which is critical thinking during the winter session 2007. I find his class to be enjoyable and fun. His tests are a little tricky, so i highly recommend that you participate in his class discussion because he gives out extra credit points. those points counts at the end of the semester and that's a Big Help...I would rec
Very clear of what he's teaching
Talks so much he goes in all these tangents. If you don't call on it you will be mad during the test for him wasting time blabbing amout other things. Do read the book cuz he asks questions in class & gives points for it. GET AS MANY POINTS U CAN. His tests can be tricky. If he sees you trying and going to class, he might you extra points for that.
it was confusing having torres one week then critelli for two, and so on. he does not cover much of the things in the book or explains really well. he expect to have already some knowledge of subject. dont take him he is boring.
Took Torres over winter 07 and thought his class was great. My class, like most at LACC, had a lot of idiots but he managed to drill the subject through most of their thick skulls while still keeping the smarter students engaged. Gives e.c. points for participation. Tests are avg. difficulty. Definitely recommend him.
This Professor is very professional and very fair with his grading. Also, he really makes you think critically and philosophically during his lectures, and makes the class interesting and fun. I learned a lot in his class and even felt compelled to read the book on my own, since his class is so stimulating. I highly recommend him! Great guy!
Seems to know his stuff, but doesn't share well. Requires one text, but lectures from another - World's Religions by Huston Smith. Don't challenge him, and under never correct him when he misspeaks or is otherwise wrong about something! I went to ofc hrs, but he wasn't helpful at all. Class wasted lots of time, so didn't cover much material.
He's kind of an ****. He tries to be funny and cool but if you say anything he doesn't agree with he's a total jerk about it. Subtly. But it's annoying. Still, it was a really easy class despite that. I didn't learn anything and I had to put up with his boring lectures. MOST BORING LECTURES EVER. Take advantage of extra credit though. Every day.
He isn't boring at all. I like his style of teaching. I wish LACC had more teachers like Torres.
I got A in his class. He isnt easy, but not that hard either. if u just go to class everyday and take good lecture notes.. oh, and if u read the book, u'll be fine. He gives u 3 tests. First test is EASY. but 2nd is a bit hard. just dont take the 2nd test. u are allowed to miss one. listen to what he says then u will get an A. Good luck!
Nice teacher if u like philosophy, he is very challenging and knows how to make his class interesting. EXTRA CREDIT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR FINAL GRADE!!! If u like to talk a lot u should not have a problem in this class. It is an easy A if u like the subject!!!
ok, Students do sleep in his class because they really don't have a choice. The prof. makes the attendance extra credit so go to every class. But the lecture is bogus. He talks about his theories and opinions and goes on and on and on as if somebody is listening or he is being interviewed. READ THE TEXT for the exams during the class. I got an A.
This is a critical thinking class. Use will use logic but Torres makes it easy. The book is easy to understand. people good at math will do better but Torres will help you to understand.
Very interesting if your interested in Hinduism and Buddhism. Torres is a great teacher and tests are relatively easy. Just be creative and prove to him that you understand the differences. Not an easy A but not a hard one. Got me really interested in philosophy.
His class will be boring if you dont have interest in philosophy. He want's his students to participate in class discussions, as that helps the students comprehend the concepts. The test are essay questions. He lets you know whats going to be on the test, so just take notes on lectures (easy), and ask questions if you dont understand.read the book!
I failed the class because I was in the hospital during the final and forgot to notify him! But hes a great professor, truly extraordinary and interesting. His lectures offer interesting information and clarify whats in the book. Exams are short answers and you choose 5 out of 10.
I suspect that the students who "sleep" during his class are incapable of any deep thought beyond what Paris Hilton is wearing this week. His class is stimulating and very interesting. He keeps his students engaged and gives plenty of opportunities for extra points. His tests are hard but the extra points can bring you to an A. Participate!
explanation is difficult to understand. 4 exams 1 final, drops lowest score. attendance is a must. 2/10.
Great teacher. Really flexible. You get out what you put in, so if for some reason you don't understand try to find out by asking him or looking it up, don't just sit there unless you really get it. If you really pay attention, you won't even need the textbook. I didn't read it and I got an A (because I understood what he said and took notes).
Awesome Prof! Class is fun & interesting. He goes straight to the point. Class discussion is on the readings assigned. Attendance is mandatory during the first weeks of the semester. Take class seriously. One mid-term & final. Critelli & Torres, great team taught class. Ask questions on the review day, it'll help in the mid-term. I recommend class
Great teacher! Really enjoyed his class and lectures, interacts in constant conversation with class. I never felt scared to speak out, in fact just the opposite. I learned a ton of super interesting concepts. Must take this class. :)
I took this class with him and Dr. Critelli. He was easy, answered all questions and his lecture was like a conversation with the students. He is straight to the point. Attendance is and paying attention & lectures are all that is needed. One mid-term & final. Critelli handed the torch over to Torres, great decision.
prof Torres is very smart and funny and made the material interesting and clear. he has sold me on philosophy.
I had Torres for Philos 1 and 14. His class was a blast. He is a great guy. He very thoroughly explained the course material. He did it so unbiasedly that I still don't know what his views are after a year. Although I suspect he doesn't like materialists. Highly recommend.
Professor Torres is great on what he does... I highly recommend him!
I had him for the sunmer professor Torres is great, I recommend his class
I took this class with Prof. Torres & Prof. Critelli. Awesome class! Not an easy A but class isn't too difficult to pass. Attendance is a must to pass the class as the mid-term & final are based on the readings & notes. Ask questions. Take their class seriously. Review day is important. I recommend their class. Overall, great teachers!!!
I took this class with Prof. Torres & Prof. Critelli. Awesome class! Not an easy A but class isn't too difficult to pass. professor tores is a good professor, interesting class, it is hard to sit there and listen to him speak for the whole class thoe, need coffee if you take him in the morning cause if else you will fall a sleep! overall not an easy A you must read the text!
i have class with Dr. Critelli and Pro Torres. they are both awesome if you attend the class, take notes, do your reading, ask questions, and argue if you want to... then it's all fun and a lot of learning! i love his class! makes me want to get up at six in the morning and fight the traffic just for the class! yes, that is how much i love it.
He's a bit hard, but I learned a lot during the summer. I do recommend his class.
Great Professor. Very articulate and clear when presenting arguments about readings. Definitely a solid well-rounded Professor. Great method. Will take his classes in the future with no hesitation.
If you've taken him for multiple classes, his lectures overlap. He's probably told you the story about Grandpa's Chair and The River a few times. He spends the entire class time lecturing, feel free to interrupt him if you don't understand anything. Easy enough overall, but you still have to do your part to pass. Very lenient and nice.
Ok, I go to USC now and took his class in '09. I haven't been on here in a while, but he's such a bad professor I still had to write something. I asked him for assistance with the material and his response, "just read the notes." I should have went to the school officials about him. He does not like when students disagree with philosophers.
This is the second class that I have taken with professor Torres and I think he is much better at Philosophy 1 content. This class seems to be droning on, almost as if he has nothing to teach us? He also plays favorites which is kinda annoying. If you ask him a question expect a snide remark. It is possible to get an A, just be ready to kiss ass.
Great Professor. Gives lectures with a tinge of sarcasm to keep students alert and immerse in subject. Fair when grading exams and accessible for questions after class. Clear and effective explanations. Recommended.
He's a very boring teacher. My friend and I had a hard time understanding his lectures, so we would ask questions in class and go to his conference hours almost every day before class. Yet, we were still lost in the class. He thinks by making us read the book we'll get it, but it's not easy if he's not guna teach the subject. Find another teacher..
He is not lienent in grading when it comes answering the questions. If you do not answer the way he likes it.
Amazing professor. He teaches the concepts well and doesn't persuade. Very clear, concise, and not boring. He grades tests fairly, indicating why you got a deduction. A ton of extra credit opportunities, but in no way a pushover class. Also, he seems to be know a lot in various subjects and ties it with philosophy effectively. Highly recommended.
Interesting. Good lectures. It's like he's talking to everyone when doing lectures. Pretty funny. Cool person. References and examples are relate-able.
cool prof. i took him for philosophy 1. hes good. im not sure for other subjects. recommended. hes patient with people even if they say stuff without relevance to topic or even sense. class with many chances for extra points by answering.
attending class is very important even if not required. you can get extra credit by answering questions, chance to get more extra credit by not missing class, and you learn a lot in lectures. the book is helpful but lectures are definitely what you need to learn.
Prof. Torres is great! Pretty funny. Take notes during lectures, they're very important. Potential extra credit for people who don't miss class.
Prof. Torres is great, I have had him for several classes and loved them all, take good notes, if he writes it on the board then write it in your notes and you will do well on the tests, participate in class discussion and you will get the most out of the class.
Cool prof. Take him. Not easy but worthwhile.
Not a bad teacher. Lectures were understandable and good approach in the freedom of attendance.
Excellent Professor. Lectures are engaging and thought-provoking. He offers extra credit points for participating in class. One of the great professors at LACC; a must have for the student who wants to excel in humanities in preparation to transfer to a 4-year University. Highest recommedation!
cool teacher. lectures are interesting but his tests are tough. not a lot of questions on the test and you get to choose which 5 you want to answer but when you answer them you need to be on point.i dont like talking and interacting in class so thats why i got a c. its b.s.the more you talk in class the higher your grade.makes no sense to me
I enjoyed his passion for the subject.
One of the hardest classes. This class will require many hours of studying to pass the exams. Difficult course. However, the professor is very helpful during lectures. He offers extra credit during the lectures, the one thing I regret is skipping classes and missing those extra credits :(. Overall, just study and attend lectures, then you'll pass.
Professor Torres is one of the best at LACC. Not only is he available after class for questions, but he is clear about what he expects on exams. Approchable and very intelligent. Lectures are always interesting. Highest recommendation!
Far and away best professor I've had here. Clear, concise, and passionate. All the makings of a great teacher. Expectations are set from the start. For those complaining, my guess is they did not attend class regularly or did not read the text and got lost. If you read and participate, you will have no trouble here. You might even enjoy it =)
Horrible. Boring class in such a large atmosphere. I didn't like how he only grades based on a few assignments, no homework turn in, some extra credit offered. Very difficult exams, and I attended regularly. I DON'T recommend it. Take with a different professor, you'll regret this class after two weeks in.
Great teacher! Hilarious and very generous with extra credit.
Professor Torres makes the class interesting. I took him for both Philosophy 1 & Philosophy 5. He gives the opportunity to earn points for class participation & test & final are easy, if you pay attention. I recommend for those who are up for a challenge & willing to learn but not for those who want an easy A. I definitely recommend, great teacher
Great professor! Not easy but great!
I've taken Torres for 4 classes and I really like him. I don't think he's an "easy" professor, but I think he has an interesting way of teaching, and I got a lot out of his classes. As always - go to class, study, and ask questions...be an interested and interesting student and you should be fine.
Love this professor, very helpful in making his students think critically!
Amazing professor! Not an easy subject but Torres makes it as clear as possible. Grade based on difficult midterm + final, but substantial extra credit opportunities. Don't be shy and volunteer,go to class, you will be sure to do good. Professor Torres concise but friendly, no busy work, early dismissal if he gets through planned lesson early.
Torres is an amazing and highly intelligent professor. You must attend every class and keep up with the reading in order to understand the material. As philosophy is not an easy subject. This class will create many new perspectives on reality and the world we live in. However, it will also depend on your level of interest.
Prof Torres is most excellent. Everyone and anyone would benefit from his classes. Critical thinking is good for you and those around you. His lectures are highly stimulating, fun and provocative. One exam, one mid-term draft essay and one final essay. Pay attention and do well. The world needs more Prof Torres.
Let me make this simple for you, reader: if you are going to take philosophy, take it with Torres. We threw all sorts of conceptions at him; they ranged from quantum mechanics/physics to world history and to human psychology, and everything in between. He knows his material well. You won't regret it
Summer course was challenging. No homework, but it helps if you read the book. Professor Torres was awesome! Not the nicest man, but def knows his material and will explain it until you understand. Not very easy, but doable. I got an A :) take him if you want to actually learn something.
he is a great professor. Take down his notes they will help you in the quiz. he will tell you what to study for the quiz and during his quizzes try not to over think it. He wants the answer not a long drawn out essay. Make sure to attend class and take notes and participate!
Symbolic Logic reveals structures of your brain meats. If you like coding and decoding, this course will vastly improve your understanding of why logic is important, or should be. Pro Torres is patient and humorous.
Professor Torres is such an intelligent professor! Very articulate, funny, patient, and charming. To me, this class wasn't hard at all. Just do the reading, pay attention in class, take notes and you're good. Love this professor and I would definitely take any class that he teaches!
Loved this class! It gets boring sometimes because of the quietness and lack of participation of some people. He is very intelligent. Right off the bat, you can tell. There's a lot of readings from the 18th and 19th century. Overall, the easiest class I've ever taken. Just don't be absent, take notes on everything he says, listen & you're good!
Not an easy A but if you read the material then you can get an A. He is good at teaching and offers plenty of extra credit because he wants you to succeed!
He is no help whatsoever, and seems to make his lectures purposely painful to sit through. His tests do not make sense, and he is overall the worst teacher I have ever had.
Philosophy 14: His lectures are very confusing. He tends to go off on tangents mid-lecture. Hard to follow. Two midterms and a final no assignments or extra credit. Material is confusing.
He is the worst! Makes lectures harder than reading the book.
He is a great professor. Intellectually stimulating. Suave. Definitely take his classes.
Took Philosophy 1 with Torres/Critelli. Torres was helpful, and I enjoyed the lectures. Not wildly inspirational or wise, but a smart man than puts forth a lot of effort to explain concepts to his students. Likes participation of students. Two tests, midterm and final. I preferred Critelli's style but was not bored during Torres' lectures.
Mr. Torres is a great guy! He was funny and made philosophy fun! The readings can be tough to decipher, but Torres can definitely help you in understanding it. I don't regret taking his class, but be ready for the midterm and final. The readings are very important to passing the class.
Philosophy in general is hard to grasp. You read the book and might be confused but when you come to the lecture he puts it in simpler terms and gives you examples. If you show up to class he gives extra credit points for answering questions. He's not the type of teacher who wants you to fail and he's funny
Professor Torres made a boring subject very interesting. He really dissected Philosophy 1 for me and the words that emit from his mouth are so mmmmmmm. He's funnt, smart, charming, and he knows his stuff. I wouldn't say that the class is easy but, take notes, write down what he says and you will pass at least. He makes you think and question life.
Tough grader but gives tons of E.C. for participation. No hw. 3 tests. 10 questions, you only have to answer 5 of them. 3 tests 300 total points for grade. You can skip the 1st or 2nd test and be graded out of 200 points if you'd like which is what I did. Take him! He's an awesome professor and will keep you engaged for Philosophy 100% trust me!
Honestly one of the worst professors I've ever taken. No homework, no class participation points, 1 midterm and 1 final to determine your grade for the class.. VERY OLD SCHOOL. You have to read the book, even then it's confusing to read. His partner gives out handouts, which makes it easier to learn from, because it's broken down to simpler forms.
The class is based 300 points. Two papers and one test. The test is worth 100 points but it is an option to take it (if you don't take it, you'll be graded 200 points instead of 300). The first paper is worth 100 and the second paper is worth 100 points as well and it is the class "final exam".
By far the one of the most caring professors ever. Very smart, funny, and super understanding. Gives lots of EC and is super easy on the ear. Lots of reading for the class as well. Not an easy class for sure but doable. I loved attending his class and would probably take him again.
A very decent and good professor. Super caring and accessible. Overall a very likable fellow. However, the subject is super hard and is a tremendous headache to get through. He gives extra credit and is lenient with students. Worth taking. However, the subject that he teaches which is philosophy is not my thing.
His lectures are amazing. It was a lot of fun taking his class. He gives a lot of examples, and if you participate in his class and engage in conversations, prof. Torres will give you a lot of extra points, which will add up to your overall grade.
Nice guy but did not understand anything he said all semester. Only one test and final. No homework is given and extra credit is received by answering questions correct in class. I passed with an A but it was because I read the book on my own, watched youtube videos, created notes, and basically taught myself.
Very caring. As long as he sees your effort, he will help you reach your desired grade. Each time you participate and say something correct or he agrees with, you get a point. Even if he sounds confusing and if you think your answer is wrong, SAY IT; because he may give you a point half the time for effort. Go to his office hours, HE DOES HELP U.
OMG. Best professor ever. He is really inspirational and interesting to listen to during lecture. He is passionate about what he teaches and really loves his job. He is really chill and you just need to pay attention in class to get an A. He is very clear in what he wants and expects and there are tons of extra credit (its possible to get 80 ec/200
Professor Torres is incredible! He is extremely nice and understanding especially if you communicate with him. His grading is very fair and and he's a professor who wants you to succeed, and he provides really good feedback that helps you grow in the subject and as a student in general. He is hilarious too so class is always fun.
Such a great professor! He truly cares for his students and gives lots of extra credit points during discussions. The class consisted of 3 free response tests... yes that includes the final! make sure to read as well, so you can engage in discussions and gain ec. Highly recommend
Took this professor twice and he's one of my favorites in LACC. If you are looking for a professor from whom you can learn take him. Every lecture was like a spiritual journey. He cares about his students, if you have problems go talk to him, he will help. Make sure he knows you are a good student and you will get an A.
This class was a real joy to me. It made me think about things differently. Dr. Torres is so caring and I enjoyed his lectures and humor so much. He is a very wise and smart man. Im so grateful to have taken this class. Be present in the class, answer questions and take notes. You will get a good grade.
Professor Torres is the best. He works with his students and always does his best to help his students understand even the most complex of topics. He gives extra credit in every lecture. I haven't even finished the class and I already love his teaching style.
Professor Torres is one of the most brilliant and insightful instructors that I have ever had, so much so, that I am profoundly disappointed in my current course with another instructor. Take him!
I am not a morning person and he made me look forward to getting up at 7am every day to get to his class by 8am. Philosophy is an endlessly fascinating realm, and Professor Torres is an endlessly well-versed guide. Truly sad to have ended the semester. Cannot recommend him enough.
This is the worst class Ive taken at Lacc so far. Its extremely boring. I havent learnt a thing and I feel like Im wasting my time. We do waste so much time on discussing things in the class and in groups and we go round and round and end up where we began with. He graded us so brutally on the midterm just to force people to participate.
He talks, and yes he talks a lot, but show him you're engaged and participate, and he will respond positively. As long as he's been teaching this, you can tell he still has passion and enthusiasm and he works hard to portray the philosophers points-of-views in a terrific non-biased way! Likable, funny, easy going; participate and be rewarded.
Not good, but the only professor who offers this class. Awkward grading scale based solely on 2/3 tests and 200/300 points depending on if you want to take the extra test. Scraps of extra credit which you have to participate for. Content gets tougher and builds on each other. Advice, read way ahead on your own. Im talking about few sections ahead.
Great sense of humor. Interesting lectures. Professor Torres gives lots of extra credits, and it is not a hard A as long as you keep up with the readings and attend every class. Breaks down the ideas for everyone to understand. He's a very kind and caring human being. You will not regret taking his class.
I don't know about Prof Torres' in-person class, but I can say it does NOT translate to online. The "lectures" are a few paragraphs of reading, save yourself the money and just buy the book and watch YouTube videos (of which I had to watch tons to try and keep up). There is barely any teaching. You'll be left to fend for yourself and graded harshly
The online class was hard for me. His assignments were not fully clear and the textbook helped but I was till confused I guess that's y this class counts towards your critical thinking GE. Read, and google things and you will have a better understanding. I did not ask him questions after I got a rude response from him. He knows his stuff tho.
Just because you know a lot about a topic, doesn't mean you should be teaching it. Showed up about 10 minutes late to every ONLINE lecture and had the audacity to mark someone tardy if they logged in 30 seconds after him. Has a very monotone way of speaking that sparks 0 interest in the listener. Knows his stuff, can't teach.
the only professor who actually teaches a subject instead of making you just read about it and take dumb quizzes that you will forget about the next day. cares about your questions and explains everything so well. he is the reason why i chose philosophy as my major. #king
Lectures are the short/simplified version of the extensive book he provides. He breaks everything down to the basics, less complex so you can follow along but still challenges you to critically think. Even though lectures are important you must read and it's A LOT of reading! Read the ch's before class and you'll receive easy extra credit points!!!
Prof. Torres helped me with more than understanding school, he helped me understand life. I had lost my baby brother and the course, the way he challenged us to see what is real, and how we hold onto toxic beliefs that cause us more harm than good was worth the 5-week short session I took in Winter and now the companion course this Spring. Thanks!
I took this class online, and that is the source of all difficulty, since Professor Torres does not know how to make a course work on Canvas. There are no announcements made outside of zoom meetings, assignments including the weekly discussion posts and the three course exams are not put on the calendar, so it is easy to miss these assignments.
Profesor Torres has text is sort of an abbreviated version of Philosophy. The chapters are not that difficult but soehow he makes it much harder than necessary by posing these philosophical questions over and over. You must participate in lectures camera on for extra credit and you will need it because the exams are essays and he grades them hard.
Professor Torres leads his lectures with a lot of philosophical questions and it spirals from there. Most of the time I couldn't understand where he was pulling information from or why the question continued to go deeper. His exams are all written/typed out, and he poses 10 questions, 5 of which you have to respond to.
Prof. Julio Torres Philosophy 001 In Person spring class was great. Lectures are short version of the textbook he provides. He gives extra credit points if you participate in his lectures. There are 3 total Essay Exams, which are written in green examination booklet, you need to answer 5 out of 10 questions on the essay exams. Very respectful man.
The philosophy department in general at LACC is bad. Professor Torres is very passive aggressive and makes offensive remarks. He makes you feel dumb for simply asking a question. Also, grading is totally random as he doesn't make grading rubrics clear. Lastly, he clearly does not care about teaching, he obviously only does this for a check.
Professor Torres knows his stuff and the conversations during class can be engaging. However, some topics are difficult to grasp, so I recommend participating as much as possible to build extra credit. There are only 2 big essays and an exam, so do your best to score well. He's very open to helping students but can seem intimidating.
He is very good at explaining intricate ideas clearly and in simple words. He is patient and understanding.
Terrible! Worst teacher I've EVER had! Doesn't teach anything in the lectures, only goes over homework from the previous class and if you have any questions he'll spend 30 mins rambling incoherently instead of giving you a straight answer. I got a C, destroyed my 4.0 GPA. WISH I had checked reviews before taking the class, the bad ones are accurate
Get ready to READ.
Professor Torres has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, you'll learn a lot. The textbook is helpful, and unstuck AI can be a great study tool alongside other resources like ChatGPT. Just stay focused and you'll do well.
Took his in-person class. Although your grade is based on only 3 exams, if you take notes of his lectures, make flashcards and take the extra credit whenever you can, you'll earn an A. Note for the honors class, he assigns an essay about Kant, which he doesn't go over in lectures and you'll have to do the reading yourself.
Winter course. He will accuse you of AI if you write too smartly and take away points. Consists of 2 weekly discussion posts, 2 exams, and final. Grades tough. Don't bother trying too hard, he'll just say you used AI and won't believe you. Will only believe you if you do mediocre work. Does too much for a GE, insufferable, take someone else.
As far as work for this class, you'll have two discussion posts per week and three tests in total. Be ready to read.
I had no background in philosophy, but Professor Torres made it engaging and easy to understand. I truly enjoyed the class and highly recommend him to any student. Professor Torres made philosophy exciting and easy to understand. Take his class—you'll learn a lot and enjoy philosophy

If you've never studied philosophy, take Professor Torres's class. He makes it interesting, understandable, and truly worth your time.
I enjoyed this class, and I was kinda shocked to get an A since he seemed to not be pleased with anyone's discussion posts. He prefaced a lot that he wants students to engage and ask for help. He's a good dude, even if he comes off a little cold. Textbook is free and he everything is on the modules anyway. Hw is frequent but I took his 8 week class
The professor is a very harsh critic when it comes to discussion board posts. Unsure what you can do to receive full marks, not sure what discussion board posts are so difficult.
