He is a wonderful person. Very nice and helpful. His lectures are straight to the point and his test are very fair. I highly recommend him.

This class was super easy. I got an A in the class. All you have to do is go to class take notes and study the notes. There is no surprises on his test because it's straight from the notes. He is also a very nice person.

he is nice, but you have to study EVERYTHING in the notes for the test, even if you think it is not important. he does not give any reviews and does not tell you what will be on the test or what to study. he says you need the book, and i bought it, but you never use it. his test consist of t/f fill in the blank and muiliple choice, about 15 quest.

The class is based on notes only, so if you don't like taking notes this class is not for you. He's boring, but a good teacher. The test are exactly whats in the notes.

DONT BUY THE BOOK. he doesnt use the book. His test are pretty challenging. You wont get an A on a test but you will get A on the quizes. He is very verbose in his explanations and uses unnessecary vocabulary also. Study the slides because he will pull sections directly out of his slides that are online. You need to study a lot but an A is possible

His class is really easy. DO NOT buy the book, you never use it. All he does is teach off the powerpts and that's what the tests are based off. Other than that, his class is pretty simple, it can get kinda boring cuz he reads the slides until class is over but its not so bad. The tests are all multiple choice, fill in the blank, & T/F questions.

this class by far has been awesome. all you really have to do is get to class on time pay attention to his powerpoints go and print the actual powerpoints study them and you will get straight a's throughout the class. Easy A!!

this class is an easy A. as long as you get the pwoerpoints from his angel website study them u will pass his tests. class is based on 4 test grades which are easy multiple choice and true and flase and a couple fill in the blanks. if u fail the class its because your an idiot

He has a slightly droning voice and he repeats "okay" plenty. I had him through a web-enhanced class, so there was no text-book use and everything was available online. He is a nice guy, and his tests are easy so long as you can read the PowerPoints.

He is a very clear teacher, and you don't really have to buy the book unless you want something on the side for support. You do have to study the power points and make sure you listen to everything he says because it'll probably be on the tests.

Don't take him for a 6 week summer course! He gives a midterm, a project, and a final. All he does is show videos and his power point are like 70 slides He doesn't give a review for the midterm and no extra credit. I don't suggest you take him unless you are into humanities.

Not really a fan of humanities, but professor Varela's passion on the subject encouraged me to keep attending class. He is an amazing professor that loves what he does, and has vast knowledge of art history. His artist project enriched me with culture, being that the presentations were on different artist and architects of different time periods.

He makes it known and has a mandatory rule. If you come in late it will affect your grade and that will drop you a letter grade. I didn't show up because his class was simple, study the power points and pass his exams. Oh and do the final project. Simple. I didn't have patience for his class, art doesn't interest me. But he knows his stuff. Got a C

he was great all we had to do was watch a documentary ,take the mid term then he assigns an artist, painter or architect to do a presentation on and then the final. the class is extremely easy he makes his powerpoints simple and fun because he always adds music and games. btw it is more an art history class than a humanities. easy A or B

Best class I ever took. Very knowledgeable and passionate, and uses a creative approach to meet the curriculum. I mean we had a lesson on freaking cyberpunk literature in an entry level humanities course! He is definitely one of the top professors pushing boundaries at Miami Dade and is as willing to help as a student is willing to work.

Dr. Varela is a great teacher. If you're interesting in art, this class is going to be way easier. He does do lectures, but he has prezi presentations. If you're not a notes person... good luck in passing the tests. If you DO take notes, then the class is an easy A. He has a good sense of humor, but you really have to pay attention for you to laugh

It's basically an art class. There are only 4 chapters in which he thoroughly goes through (he makes them interesting) the whole semester and gives (3)quizzes in between. There's a midterm, a individual project, and a final. This class was challenging for me but I did end up liking it, if u pay attention and study you'll do fine. But you must study

This class was very easy in my opinion. All you have to do is show up to class and of course pay attention; take notes; study the powerpoints; and make sure you know what you're talking about when you present your individual project. The concepts are very easy to understand, you just have to study.

A great professor! I learned a lot about hums ties thanks to him, great lectures, if you show up, take notes, pay attention, go over the presentations there's no way you won't pass. Best professor I had this semester and would definitely take him again if I could.

Dr. Varela is an amazing teacher. He is goes in detail and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask, he knows his stuff. There are not that many assignments, all you have to do it study and you will be fine. Beware of the final presentation, do not wait until the last minute because he takes the presentation seriously.

Took this class in the summer. The professor is really easy to understand and the material covered is interesting. He knows his stuff If he stops to explain something pay attention and TAKE NOTES!!!! and read later. He will give you a lot of material to work with for the exams. Each class covers a lot of ground so be careful about missing class.

AMAZING PROFESSOR! He really is a wealth of knowledge, extremely worldly and makes you think outside of the box. I was dreading this class, I thought it was going to be boring and had lots of work, but if you take notes, you'll be fine, his tests are CAKE! He is funny, and helps you to understand the deeper meaning of it all. TAKE HIM!

He covers alot of material in his classes. So just be there. I took his class for the summer getting ready to die, and honestly, it was a very interesting and easy course. Just take notes and study but his tests are soo easy. He is also funny as hell, but seriously overall I learned so much in this class, about life, and myself.

Great professor, a great person altogether. He is extremely knowledgeable about EVERYTHING. He makes you take a deeper look at things, he keeps you 'woke". Just go to class, take notes, and I promise that the tests are super easy if you paid attention in class. He's not out to get you, but he does want you to learn something and take it with you.

He says textbook is mandatory but in reality it's not. Is very passionate about his class and is well educated about the topic. He does not use his time wisely though. 3 tests and 1 final. If you are not a good test taker i do not recommend. In reality there is a lot of course content but you do not go or use half of it. But very good class.

Great professor. Nothing to be scared of. Just make sure you do the final presentation at the end. TaKe notes, if he stops to talk alot about something, make sure you write it down. Tests were easy. I thought this class was going to be horrible but he was super cool. Very intelligent, with a hint of sarcasm for comedic relief.

This is a college class. We are all adults. If you're looking to have an 'A' grade handed to you without studying or working for it this is not the class for you, and you most likely won't be able to hold a job in the future if that is the case. Just listen, take notes, ask questions. Its art and paintings. No big deal. He does his job. Good prof.

I don't know why there are such mean comments about him when he really isn't all that bad. It's like any other college course. Like I didn't even study till the day of the tests and I passed them all, its true he doesn't make them all that hard like he is out to get you. You actually learn pretty cool things. Just do the final pres. and take notes.

Professor is respectful to his students, funny and well prepared for class. The class is extremely easy but you MUST study. There are no homework assignments other than going over the material as the grade is soley based on test scores. For the final the professor offers an excellent study guide. It is difficult to NOT pass this class.

This was an easy A class, he clearly loves the subject so expect him to talk a lot about it. He does not go off subject. He can be really strict though. Does not like laughter unless he made the joke. You dont need a textbook for his class, his test are based on his pp and his lectures. Tip: make a group chat with other students. Over all easy

professor is very knowledgeable in this topic and really knows what he is talking about. grade is based off a few tests but they are easy. he covers everything that will be on the tests in his lectures. no regrets in taking him.

He must have read his ratings on this site, because he taught a great class this semester. It is lectured based; he allows open discussion and isn't rude. I loved what we learned in class. He is a tough grader but offered an easy extra credit opportunity. The class is long, but we have breaks and the lessons are so interesting it goes by fast.

I really enjoyed this class! The professor is very knowledgable he is very wise on different topics of this course and is very descriptive of what he teaches. I would take this class again, if I had the chance.

Honestly, he is a very straight forward professor. Make sure to take notes and pay attention during lectures because exams are really easy just need to memorize what you learned. He is a very tough grader but if you pay attention in class you're all set. Had to drop bc personal reasons but definitely would take again.
