She's tough but if you work your ass off and go see the TA's this class is a breeze with her curve.
Professor Gilbert is a great teacher. She will go the extra mile and help you if you are in a tight situation. If you don't understand something just go and talk to her during office hours. She is always willing to help!!
she is pretty good. the class itself if boring. she tends to move kind of fast. a lot of tidious work involved, but not nearly as much as accy 206.
Sees everything in black or white. typical narrow-minded accountant. also, extremely conservative
julitta is perhaps the hottest professor at this university. sometimes she wears a semi-see thru shirt and it is very hard to pay attention to her emotionally charged lectures
EVIL! She made accoutning 207 the hardest class ever...
pleasant lady who is teaching a BORING class. its not that bad if you put a lot of study time into the exams and do well on the excel projects.
Yeah this class was pretty easy for me. Just do the homework and try to comprehend it. I will warn you though, her tests are not as straight-forward from the homework. So STUDY HARD!
i thought it was an actually decent class. she was real nice 95% of the time, and ould answer your q's if you had them. people that didnt like her usualy didnt like that class or accy. i thought she taught well if you showed up. best of all... NO HW!
Khaaaaaaaan!!

All in all, she is a nice person...and teaches well...sometimes the material is rushed though...but the class is hard, not the teacher
She's megahot
gilbert knows her stuff and at times maybe too much about accounting. shes very knowledgeable and friendly and best of all theres no HW. i agree with others, its not her thats bad its just the material. its not hard necessarily just dont expect it to be like 206. a lot of would be acct's end up switching their majors after this class!
She is good but she is too hard to understand her theory. the theory portion of her is too hard she never gives any but the math work is good.
I really enjoyed going to her class. I found most of the material very interesting. The tests can be ticky. There are 4 excels u need to do, and 8 in class quizes.
She is a lot more fun to listen to than in 206. I agree with everyone that its not her thats bad, but the material. She tries to make the class as interesting as possible. Very easy to approach. The graders of the excels (at least in 06) are pickey about the most trivial of things.
VERY BORING. I learned more reading the book than attending her class. The review book was a must for me. Accy classes aren't bad when you have a great teacher... let's just say this one was BAD! I wish i could have actually learned the material.
This class is hard. Material is very difficult to comprehend. Hoping to pass with a C. Way different that ACCY 206. I wish I was still in there.
This class isn't too hard if you study for the tests the right way (Going to the SI reviews and getting all of the chapter practice exams+practice exam #3), it's not as hard as people claim it to be.
BORING!! She repeats irrelevant information over and over again and flies through the material that is actually important to the class. I have learned nothing from her. However, the TA's are helpful.
I attended every class until the first test and I felt very confident with the material going into it. However, I found that I learnded a great deal more reading the book then I ever did attending her class. She simply reads her powerpoints and fails to properly teach the material.
She is an okay teacher, she really teaches 50% of the time and the other is just babbling. Her tests are really really hard so u have to put in alot of study time before the tests, excels are not that hard and she is radically diff. from Accy 206 so be prepared. You have to put in alot of hard work to pass, still not insanely difficult.
She doesn't teach! She just reads the powerpoints to us. We can do the same at home if we just downloaded the power points and studied them.
This class is not an easy A. You definitely have to work hard to understand the material because there is a lot of material covered over the course of the class. You definitely need the book because a lot of her theory questions come from the book. I think Julitta really knows her stuff and she teaches very well. Would reccommend her to anyone.
This class sux no matter who's teaching it. Her exams are the hardest i've ever taken at NIU. She gives out about 18 points extra credit if u attend class. The excels suck!!!!!! She's a nice lady but that's not gonna help u do good in class.
Shes a pretty good teacher, but the class is hard. Pay attention and take notes on the problems that you do in class.
She is very knowledgeable abut cost accounting and explains the concepts clearly. She tends to repeat the same concepts but in different wordings and loves to say the word "Therefore". Tests are difficult but not impossible if you take the practice exams and the SI exam and do all homework problems.
I feel that comments made on here can be misleading, and that everyone is their own best teacher. I read these reviews prior to taking this course and found myself a bit scared of what to expect. To succeed it is simple. Study hard for tests. You know when you know the material and when you dont, so commit to getting a good grade and it will happen
She is really hard!!! the material covered is rediculous and how she expects us to learn it all is crazy!
Not as hard as people here made it out to be. If you do your homework early and come to class, she goes over the solutions and gives helpful pointers for frequent misunderstandings and problem areas on upcoming tests. There are plenty of practice tests available. Also, she has office hours and 4 TAs if you need extra help. So ????
I am an international student ... so it's kinda hard for me to understand everything in her class . I see must of the students saying that the professor makes the class harder ... but I think the course is hard more than what the teacher doing
She is well organized and expect to check blackboard every day. Class Quizzes are easy and I think she just does them for attendance and to keep class on schedule. She is very detail oriented and grades that way! No extra credit. Everything she says is relevant to the subject, answers questions clearly, and responds quickly to correspondence.
Could not ask for a better teacher. The material is much different than 206, but its not too bad if you pay attention. If you pay attention and read directions you will be fine - however many students cant seems to grasp that and get zeros on their excel assignments. Grading is objective and fair to everyone. Tests are long so study for them.
She is a decent professor. The class is pretty boring, but it is an accounting class and I had a 9:00 AM class, so that is probably why. The workload is not high, just 4 excels. You need to study for the exams which are moderately difficult. I only needed the book for the Excel information. The class however has a pretty big curve. 85% approx A
Ridiculous curve, so don't get too down on your low test scores. Yes, they will be low. The 4 Excels and the quizzes aren't much to sweat about. Tests are 75% of the grade and they are incredibly tough. So STUDY HARD for 'em. Textbook is a lot more helpful than her lectures IMO. She just reads her power points. Attending class isn't a major gain.
She was so nice and helpful! The tests seemed to get easier as they went on. After you figure out how she asks the questions, its easier to prepare for! Don't just study the night before!! Overall she was very willing to help you, except on the take home quizzes. I'd take her again if she taught other classes.
This class stressed me out to no end. She is not a good teacher. She doesn't explain the formulas or excels well, or often, so you have to pretty much teach yourself. The powerpoints are useless, but the book can be somewhat helpful. TESTS ARE HARD. I studied hard, went to class every day and all of the reviews, and still got D's on every test
Terrible teacher. She explains stuff in class and still makes no sense. This stuff really is not that hard, but she makes it harder. However, she writes that tests and teaches most sections, so good luck...
She is very helpful...The class is very HARD! Go to class, study and you'll pass, most students rely on the "curve" but that's not ideal...
Tough class but not impossible. Excel instructions can be vague but just email her yours and she'll basically tell how to fix it.
Class is extremely difficult, but Gilbert is the teacher to have. Shes knows her stuff inside and out and expects the same from students. If your not willing to study more than one day in advance for exams, do not expect to pass this course! Aim for 100/150 on the tests and turn in the other work and you will pass, despite your "F" test average!
Devona is the better teacher however neither teacher is bad. The class itself is the issue. I scored 96th percentile on 2 of the tests with an 84% and 86%. The tests are ridiculously difficult.
Terrible Teacher and Class. The class is set up as 8 quizzes, 4 Excels, and 4 Tests. The Tests are beyond impossible (I scored above 90th percentile on all tests and the highest score I got was a 126/150). The quizzes were moderately easy, but the Excels were nit-picked so much. If you dont Center a Title that's 1 point off (3%). Have her fired
Hard class. take her over devona she. gilbert writes all the tests. around a 75% is a B. it is impossible to study to much for this class. it is just barley possible to study enough. get all the points you can on the excel and quizes you will need them tests are very very hard
Comparable to UBUS 310 only because of Gilbert's terrible teaching. Doesn't seem to care about the students.
Nice lady.... Gilbert knows her stuff but doesn't teach well.Tests are impossible. Quizzes and Excels are easy. The class average on her exams were 92/150. Take advantage of extra credit points which are only available to students that attend class. Study hard and meet with the TA. That is the only way to pass with a C or better. Good luck!
This was quite possibly the hardest class I have ever taken so far. Her tests were brutally hard. Take advantage of evry single extra credit point. Also she loves horses and compars the class to horses. Watch out and study hard for this class, its not easy.
I have failed this class 2 times now. This second time I had a tutor helping me, but the tests are crazy hard. Got A's and B's on every other assignment, but if you don't do well on the exams, you're screwed. So hard.
She writes some pretty tough tests but overall i found that if you do the readings and just look over the homework that everything came together very well. Then she normally puts a pretty decent overall curve on the class, because i know I got an 85% A
A lot of material is covered in this course so the exams are difficult, but you should be fine if you go to the review sessions & do the practice problems. She also curves the class & is always available for help!
Very nice teacher, although the class is extremely difficult with all the material covered. She provides multiple extra credit opportunities so take advantage of them! The exam study sessions are hosted by the T.I.'s and are near useless, rushing through the answers. Overall a good teacher but don't miss class and study very hard!
Always hated accounting and this class was very stressful; so stressful that i ended up changing my major. She's a very nice lady but the class itself is extremely difficult. Stay on top of everything and make sure you understand everything she talks about. Even though it is difficult, she curves pretty good
She is snappy and rude if you ask questions. She is also verbally abusive and very degrading. she does not respond to emails in a timely manner. Her exams are impossible. She knows the information we'll but does an awful job teaching the material. oh yeah, on a scale of 1-10 her looks are a negative which matches her attitude.
The class is hard to begin with because a lot of information is covered. She tells you on the first day that this is the hardest class in the college of business. She cancels office hours a lot and doesn't make herself available for help. She is also rude when you ask questions.
Good teacher. This is a class with challenging material. She gives a lot of extra credit plus a curve. If you have problems in this class maybe you shouldn't major in business, and definitely not accounting.
It is unfortunate that she must curve everything in the class so that not everyone fails, on top of that, her SI's were unhelpful, along with rude just like herself. Definitely do not recommend.
It is a challenging class, but Gilbert tries to make it easier for non-accounting majors to get through it. She has a lot of extra credit and if you study the practice tests and do the homework (put a lot of time in) you'll succeed. I'm an accounting major so I had more interest in the class than non-acc. majors.
Gilbert tries to make the classes as simple as she possibly can by offering extra credit and curving the class. However the tests are challenging if you do not study. Make sure to study a week in advance and be efficient (Don't worry she gives tons of study material). The class isn't easy but don't confuse that for Gilbert being a bad teacher.
Do Not take her. She reads off the power points. Her instructions for the quizzes and excel can be confusing and nip picks your work. I nailed all the quizzes and excels but still failed her tests which are extremely tough. You never know where you stand in her class because she curves the whole class at the end of the semester. Shame on NIU!!!
She is monotone which doesnt help due to the fact that this class is extremely hard as it is. Attendance is a must, and make sure you understand everything because the final is cumulative. You may pass the quiz and excel assignments and still fail. :/
Getting help from Mrs Gilbert, may be the best way to figure out the tests, which are the heart and soul of this class. Three tests , maybe if one more was added it may be easier. I also don't like being crammed in like sardines in the tests. If you can take the class equilivalent at your local comm college, it will save you trouble really.
Ms. Gilbert is professional and treats students like adults, therefore, HW and attendance not req. BUT, you'd better go to class and do HW to pass! Allows/endorses working together on HW and quizzes. She answers all questions and will help before/aft class. Also, you may sit in on her other sections if you miss yours.
She is a CPA so treats all her students like they are one too. Her exams are very difficult so be sure to be well prepared! Her homework and quizzes aren't too hard if you have a partner to help you. She is very helpful and if you are confused. 207 is mandatory for business majors so if you take it with Gilbert be sure to review her notes daily!
Had to retake this class. The best advice is to really try to understand the concepts and do as many practice problems as you can. She is extremely helpful during her office hours and curves to help out those below a 70%. Tests are ridiculously hard so make sure to start studying at least a week ahead of time.
Many students like to give Julitta a bad reputation. However, everything I heard about her was untrue. She is always willing to help and is one of the nicest professors I've had. She loves what she does and it shows. She also makes the material relevant. You may have to work hard for the class, but that is what the COB is all about.
Julitta is very knowledgeable in her subject matter, she is an accountant and has been for 20+ years. Her lectures are long, sometimes amusing and fast-paced. To succeed, you must have the book, good reading habits, solid knowledge from ACCY 206 and good communication with students and the TAs... There are curves, but don't depend on them!
This class is mandatory so have fun being very bored. Her tests average at a 50 % but she curves the class. You dont have to go to class. She is the only teacher for this course. You can tell she loves what she does. With that being said it is still very hard to understand her directions.
This was a mandatory class that I took. She is very serious and doesn't joke around a lot. She teaches alright but sometimes it's hard to listen as she drags on. She is willing to help whenever a student needs it. The tests are very hard.
Class overall was pretty boring and not very helpful, I didn't see a point in going. If you read the all the powerpoints and do the study guides for the test it should be an easy A.
Julitta was one of the nicest professors I've had in the CoB. She'll help you when you ask. Lectures are boring. The material can be overwhelming so take advantage of the review sessions. The quizzes and excels are easy points so make sure you do them. Homework isn't graded but it highly advised since it will help with learning the material.
Professor Gilbert was a good professor, but she made you work for a good grade. Class isn't mandatory, but if you want to pass, you need to go. She was always there for office hours, and always was ready to help as much as she could. Tests make up most of the grade, so study as much as possible.
Julitta can be very boring, take notes during her class to stay awoke. You actually have to study for exams, they can be very tough. In my opinion, SI review sessions are a waste of time that you can be using to studying on your own. They post the answers immediately after anyways. Get the paperback book, it will help with homework and studying.
Professor Gilbert was a nice person, but I didn't find that she was able to explain in a way that made sense. She tends to ramble about the smaller less important things. She rushed the two more important chapters at the end. The reviews sessions and TA's are your life savers. Make sure you go if you need help!
We only had 2 exams plus the final which is cumulative. Like any other class, the tests are hard if you don't study but if you study the homework assignments (homework isn't graded), read, and do the practice tests, you should be fine. She does give a lot of extra credit! She tends to ramble a lot but she is very knowledgeable on the subject.
Professor Gilbert knows what she's talking about in cost management accounting. However, she can get off topic a lot and takes a long time to get through the material. There are only two tests plus the final cumulative exam. The tests are what really count as they are extremely difficult. Study a lot and do the practice exams and you'll pass.
Go to class! If you can, take notes before class, that helps a lot. Tests are hard so try to get at least a 65 and you should be ok. She gives A TON of extra credit! So take advantage ( trust me, you'll need them). Go to HER not the TA's for Excel or quiz help. She actually answers your question.
It is easy to tell that she loves what she does and she is very well educated on the subject. Sometimes she can get a little off topic and takes a little longer to get through the material, but she is overall a good professor!
She is terrible at teaching the subject material. Second most boring teacher I've ever had. Learned more from my high school accounting teacher.
ACCY 207 is a required class for all business majors. It's a class that will define if you will make it in the college of business or not. She is the only professor for this course and I think she is a good professor. You really have to take this course seriously and study often to get a good grade. Tests are difficult, but can be recovered by hmwk
I respect Gilbert as a knowledgeable accountant, but it seems as though she treats her students as if they are CPA's when in reality, a large percentage of us are in there because it is required for the business core. I appreciate the curve, but it would be better if she would not make the exams as hard (the average is around a 50-55).
Loves to call people out. Whatever you learn in class won't help you on the tests. Good luck.
The tests are extremely difficult to the point where she curves them so that a 65% or above is passing. Absolutely do 100% of the extra credit because you won't pass without it. Although she is extremely knowledgable in the subject, she tends to get off topic and it makes lectures hard to get through. READ THE BOOK.
Her lectures were interesting. My only complaint is the tests . They are so hard and challenging. It takes me forever to finish. When the class is over , I am not even finished
Dont take this course here if you have the option to take it elsewhere. Class isnt mandatory but you might as well go to get somewhat of an idea of what to guess on on the exams. Homework isnt graded and is done in class, but youre going to wish it was graded after you take the first exam and see how much your grade tanks. Simply an awful teacher.
The class structure is different now so exams are online which is definitely better than it was prior to now. She is very smart and is approachable if you need help, and though the lectures are dry the class isn't awful if you put in some work.
Truly a nice woman. Her is not the problem, the way the class is ran is. Used to be way harder but kids complained & now its way easier. EVERYTHING is online - tests, quizzes, homework, all NOT on respondus lockdown. The only hard things are the 2 excel projects - go to the TA to get help and do good those or else you will not pass the class!!!
If you want to pass class and understand the material take her class. She is willing to help if you are willing to put in the work. She truly wants her students to be successful.
207 was not bad at all. The concept is confusing, but the structure of class was fair. She wasn't bad as a teacher and all exams were online which was nice. She was very chill, but monotone. There was a lot of assignments due almost everyday. Julitta always helped with the excel and always pushed some assignments back if necessary.
I do know accounting is difficult however, she has made it worse. Her Test is the exact opposite of what is learned in class. Respondous Browser required for test for those with test anxiety this is the worst!!!!! What a waste of time and money. Horrible and awful teacher! 0/10
I loved this accounting teacher. It was an asynchronous honors class but nonetheless, she would also give great feedback to any questions very quickly. I would highly recommend her.
The online class would be very difficult for anyone without a base of accounting knowledge. The homework was very difficult, and the website used malfunctioned and said right answers were wrong a lot. Prof is understanding, but the class is extremely self taught and the tests are difficult. The online class tests are webcam tests.
Nice and all but the homework given is stupid. This class has more homework than the rest of my classes combined.
She is really nice and tries her best to make the material make sense. Although, she is really monotoned and the lectures do get boring. She does help on excel assignments, homework and exams are online without a lockdown browser.
She does the things that a teacher needs to do. She sends out class emails to list the required assignments for that week, provides video instructions for bigger assignments, and will answer questions if you reach out to her. A lot of online homework, practice problems, extra credit homework, three quizzes, two Excel assignments, and six exams.
