He is the best professor I ever met. Just listen to the lecture and finish the homework, you could easily get an A! He is a super nice person that he solve all of students question and even help students to pick up their eraser on the floor:)
He is a nice professor, and always helps students. If you think the HMs are difficult, just walk in his office.
Some students think the course is a little bit confusing, so he make very easy quiz and exams! A great professor! you will not regret to take his course!
He is a very very patient and nice professor, very cares about students. For courses, the Calculus lectures are well structured and organized. And he will explain the solution step by step, making it easier for students to learn and absorb. In his lectures and recitations, I really learn a lot! The homework are well structured, too.
He is the best! He is the best! He is the best! Take Him! Take Him! Take Him!
Really good professor. Took him for Calc III and his lectures were really, really helpful. He'll answer any questions via email REALLY quickly (like always less than 30 minutes), and he's genuinely a nice guy. Take his class!!
He would spend most of lectures doing proofs/derivations of formulas, instead of explaining how to do the questions he would go on to ask us on quizzes/exams, or doing many examples. Class felt like reading a wikipedia page of the lecture's concept, rather than actually being taught what to make of it. He would also frequently skip steps. A waste.
Professor Damarakus is great! His lectures are long (as it is calc 3) but also informative. The homework is not bad at all. Definitely take him if you have the chance. Most of the tests are scaled.
He's a great professor!! Take him! Pay attention to the examples on his lectures and homework, the midterms and final exams' questions would be quite similar to that. He's so nice and patient and would be willing to answer students' questions clearly and patiently and would give curve (extra points) on the exams.
Great and kind professor! Take him! He will reply your email with any questions in just a few minutes. He is pretty patient and willing to answer any questions you have about the lecture. The exams are fair if you do all the hws and review all his lecture notes. His lectures are also well-organised with clear notes.
He mostly goes over derivation of formulas in class, but he goes through examples as well and is extremely available for questions in class, before and after, and in office hours. The homework, quizzes, and tests are very similar but different than class work.
This is my second semester with Prof. Damarackas. Excellent Professor! His Discrete Mathematics course is as fantastic as his Cal III. He explains concepts and proofs very clearly to students and would answer questions from his students at any time: after class, during his office hour, and online. I promise you will learn a lot about math!
HE IS THE BEST MATH TUTOR YOU CAN EVER HAVE. Very clear lectures with funny cartoon illustrations, lots of examples given, and he never skips steps. He is always encouraging and truly cares about his students. Very accessible outside classes, usually replies email in a few hours. I would gladly take every single math class with him. HE IS AN ANGLE.
Thought of every possible way to have fun of students about attendance (paper signup sheet, various QR codes, individual QR codes, etc.) Love to see you explaining why you're absent. If he really cares that much, he can simply make a seat table at the beginning of semester. I truly believe that he enjoys the process of having fun of students.
Had him for calc 3 and he was amazing. Very accessible outside of class and will explain concepts to you until you understand it. Liked him enough to plan to take his discrete course next semester. Of course the class is difficult, but as a professor he's amazing.
He is the best!!!!!!!!! No idea why some reviews said he's mean, he's funny and just makes "mean" jokes during lectures. His handwriting is hard to read, especially for his z, 2, and r, but you kinda learn. He is super helpful in office hours and would explain concepts until you get it. Attendance not required.
He is a really good professor. The course is challenging but he will explain each detail to make sure students understand the topic. He welcome questions.
He is the best! Best math prof I've ever had at NYU. Take him if you can! He is willing to help you with any questions you have after class. He is so patient and will explain the questions slowly until you fully master them. He also replies to the emails super fast (like within a minute).
great guy with PhD level of expectations from students
He was very deceiving by looking passively aggressive in his email. Midterms are so hard and when everyone failed it, instead of curving, he gave another 3rd midterm a week before the final.
Easy A; Take Him without hesitation! no need to attend class and you can get A!!!! Best math prof ever
good overall, nice one
No need to go class, recording and class notes are enough
Use umbrella to teach you vectors and 3D model, so funny and inspirational
This might just be the class with the most interesting dynamic ever. This guys is so funny unintentionally. Don't need to go to class at all, sometimes you can learn more yourself than in lecture. His hand writing sucks though and he assumes that we know certain simplifications. Overall not a hard class to get a good grade in and he is so funny
The criteria for grade assignments are very strict. In the syllabus, it is clearly stated that students are expected to spend 8-12 hours outside of class completing assignments, which is quite unreasonable. There are two pre-quizzes, one quiz, and one problem set every week. You need to be well-prepared to take this class.
not curve,low
Caring, Respected, Clear explanation,
The midterm is hard and graded strictly, with no curve applied
He would upload notes and attendance is not mandatory. However the midterm is long and difficult, which made me felt like they purposely made it to disgust students. 🤢🤢Also there is no curve. 🤢Quizzes happen once a week on paper. Overall a good person but don't take his class
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I am honestly not sure how he has any good reviews. His midterms are so ridiculously difficult and he does not curve. His lectures don't prepare you in the slightest. He makes the easiest concepts so difficult. Many students withdrew after the first midterm and another wave is withdrawing after the second. Save yourself.
RUN!!!!!! His test such as midterm 1&2 are soooo soooooo difficult than what we learned!!! and he is no curve!!!!!!! Although this course is not too heavy, after taking this person's class, you will feel depression. RUN!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best discrete professors you could take, hearing stories from what I've heard about other professors. Lectures go through definitions and practice problems non-stop, lectures waste no time. Answers questions well and explains things relatively well.
POTATO POTATO POTATO!!!!!!!!!
potato potato potato. I love when he uses potatoes to explain every new concept in this class, and he takes time to answer questions in class. We are always behind on content. Never went to his lectures b/c Its 8am plus no attendance and his lecture notes are quite useless and barely prepares you for tests. Just do all the hw and u should be fine.
How does this guy still have a job? His lectures consistently fall short, he's behind schedule, all he does is proofs for calc and doesn't work through problems. This guy is failing most the class every midterm and can't see that maybe he is the problem. Genuinely one of the worst experiences ever, there is a reason his calc class is always open.
He's nice but his midterms are super hard and the class average for the second one was almost in the 40s. He says he'll curve/adjust at the end if he feels like it basically but no curves on any of the tests throughout the semester so you don't really know where you stand in the class. Nice in office hours but lectures are confusing
Despite learning calc previously, performing well in this class is tough. The first midterm had a 65% average, and the second was even worse (40-50%). Too much time is spent on irrelevant proofs, and the practice material doesn't match the exam. Lectures lag behind, forcing new material to be learned 2 days before the midterm. AVOID
He doesn't seem to care about his students and often leaves them feeling lost, both in class and on exams. The time spent on homework and studying each week feels unproductive. If you're concerned about your grades and learning experience, avoid him.
nice guy but exams are way too tough. average for the first midterm was around a 60 and the second midterm around a 50 (exams are 65% of final grade). does not explain concepts well, spends way more time on unnecessary proofs than actually explaining the concepts. TAs are very helpful though.
Incredible teacher and very good at clearing up confusing concepts but the exams are extremely difficult and do not match the difficulty of content covered in class. Exams are not curved so you don't really know how well you are performing. I recommend him if you are already a genius at Calc but if you care about your GPA, do NOT take his class.
I think he genuinely enjoys giving difficult exams and watching his students suffer. It seems like everything he does - exams, homework, is designed to catch you out and trick you as opposed to testing the context that you learnt in class. He is helpful outside of class, but his exams are much different to his content and slides. Avoid.
Somewhat patronizing. Extremely hard midterms, which don't match HW/quizzes. Says won't curve and mainly suggests students bad grades are a result of them not studying. Strongly recommend against
Professor Damarackas is tough. He doesn't curve exams and makes them much harder than the sample exams you are given. Assignments are easy to complete, but his choice of exam is hard to stand. He can be overly straightforward and won't help you occasionally. He focuses on proving concepts during lecture, and much less on solving them.
Lectures are spent proving things that don't appear on the exams. Speeaking of which, exams are very difficult and nothing like what is taught in class.
Can be a really funny professor and definitely learned a lot from his class. Exams are very difficult but he seems to boost total final grades by 6-8%. Can sometimes come across as cold but genuinely a caring guy if you come to him with issues.
Avoid at all costs!!
Tests are hard and he's confusing. I stopped going to classes bc I learned better by myself and then went to office hours sometimes. Midterm averages were in the 50s and 60s and the final average was a 60% but he did curve almost an entire letter grade. I went from a B- to A-. If you have a background in calc u will be fine with curve but bad prof
Professor Damarackus was my hardest professor at NYU as a premed student. His exams seemed as if he was trying to trick us out rather than actually test us on our knowledge; this is exhibited by his extremely low exam averages, lower than the other calc professor's exam averages. In office hours, he would often be snarky and unhelpful. Avoid.
This class was very confusing even though I had previous knowledge. Quizzes and homeworks were easy and are nothing like the exams. The class average was: Exam1(65%), Exam2(53%), Final Exam(60%). There was no curve for the exams even though the average was terrible. Choose another professor if possible.
Not good at explaining concepts, comes off as very cold and uncaring unintentionally, lots of homework that don't really help with exams. Lectures almost always left unfinished and we have to finish them the next class which takes away from final review days. Spends more time on proofs then examples.
In all the years I've learned math, no class has stressed me out this much. His midterms were harder than the study materials he provided. People were dropping out of this class left and right. Passing was not impossible but it will definitely hurt your GPA.
he is a really good professor if you really want to get your doubts solved. during office hours he is very helpful, like the most accessible professor in the calculus department. hes a pure soul. the only thing is that his exams are toughest as compared to all the other professors. but if you are struggling with calc, hes always ready to help!
This is the worst class I've taken at NYU. The professor doesn't do a good job of explaining things and can be rude, making it daunting to ask questions. He wasn't much help with homework, as I tried to get some guidance with something that I my work for but had no clue how to properly do and he refused to help (he called it giving me the answer).
Discrete is hard in the beginning, especially for all those proofs. But he's really a great professor, with patience to explain everything well. I personally understand all the knowledge point he explained. Take his class and go to his office hour. I didn't think i did well in the exam but I ended up with an A in discrete.
I literally cannot explain how good this professor is. Attend all of his lectures and make sure to read the text-book before hand. People have struggled in his classes due to lack of practice, but tests are not hard with a sufficient amount of studying. I am taking his Discrete math course and have had the same great experience. READ TXT BOOK!!!!!!
Do not recommend taking him. His lectures are pointless and terrible at explaining simple concepts. His tests are way harder than all the quizzes and homeworks. Basically had to learn calculus by myself.
Most possibly a nice person but his lectures are kinda useless
Hard exams, do not take him
You have better choice for this class.
Run. There are many other choices. His partial credit is a joke, meaning nonexistent. Went to office hours, and it barely helped. He gave me advice on how to ace his test, and I still bombed, even after doing everything he said to do and showing him everything. If you can take another professor -- do it for your mental health, trust me.
I will admit that Professor Damarackas' class was very difficult, however, I learned a a lot and he instilled good habits in me. He's very tough, but it's because he cares a lot. Success in his class is not impossible, but you will need to work hard and practice often. He will help you improve if he sees that you're genuinely trying.
Not a good professor. Nice person, but bad at teaching. His slides are not helpful at all. He spends too much time on proofs and not enough time on examples, which are the things he actually asks. Even if he does an example, it's way too easy compared to what he asks. He does curve at the end, but only because everyone does horrible.
Most people I knew didn't like him but I thought he was okay, his midterms were created by him so they were a lot harder than others but since his tests were harder the final was super easy. He has 2 ways of giving you you're final grade which was really nice since I ended up with an A when I expected lower since I failed my second midterm.
Spent a lot of class time going over proofs so going to his office hours definitely helped. You have weekly problem sets and a quiz every recitation - lowest 2 scores get dropped. Midterms were pretty challenging and I definitely would not have been able to do as well if I didn't have prior knowledge in this subject.
I was one of the few that went to class and office hours and I still had to learn everything on my own. When you ask him questions, he never directly answers them. His tests were way harder than any other discrete professor with our averages being 10+ points lower. He did curve by 5% but our averages were so low that he should've curved by more.
Hard course with a heavy workload.
I honestly don't know why Prof. Julius has so many bad reviews. He actually is quite funny without even trying to be and he is really caring and wants his students to understand the material. Only a few people participate during lecture and it honestly makes me so sad. I would take him again.
I took his Calc1 over last spring semester, and it is good. He might not be "inspirational", but 98% of the lecture is very clear (especially for calc1); the remaining 2% can be resolved by raising your hand to ask a question. Homework takes time to finish. This is true for the entire calculus series. And he has a ton of office hours.
Professor Damarackas is funny and lighthearted and he wants his students to do well. HOWEVER, he goes through material very fast, skipping over many steps. He TELLS us how to do things but does not SHOW us. I find that he really overcomplicates the methods and requires us to solve problems using his overcomplicated method. I'm entirely self-taught.
very disrespectful and rude
He's a piece of work. I worked my butt off for my grades and he somehow still makes me so angry at him. He is rude, uncomprehending, and unopen-minded to anyone's opinions. Take him if you want to ruin your semester.
horrible, not good at all, dont ever consider him
His tests are very accurate to the "university reels" about how nothing from the homework is on the assignments. Do NOT TAKE HIM.
Julius is a terrible professor. He likes degrading his students and doesn't answer questions. He complains that no one shows up to the lectures but thats because of his terrible teaching skills. Its easier to just learn from YouTube or your TA's office hours.
Terrible prof, degrading and just repeats what he says when asked a question. Genuinely so chopped. Don't take his class.
Very bad at explaining things. Tests much harder than practice material
This class is so bad the only way I could verbalize my feelings was making Hatsune Miku sing about it over some slap bass. I'm beyond help but this course broke me. Hatsune Miku you're my only hope.
you'll only succeed in this class if you 1. teach yourself 2. taken calculus before. the tests aren't incredibly hard, they're similar to quizzes and homework. never ever learned a single thing from class. taught myself how to do the hw problems. all he does is write things on his iPad. its incredible, says so much but its never anything of worth.
Very hard and lectures are unclear
There is no reason to take this professor, he does his own thing in classes, only talks about what interests him, and then picks the most convoluted problems he can come up with for exams. His sample exams were of little help due to actual tests being much more complicated. not impossible, but rough for sure.
Dear god let me tell you no other class I've taken in this school has crashed my gpa and mental health as hard as this one. I went to every lecture; did khan, quizlet, symbolab and watched the introductory videos ahead of time and still cried over this class 5x, called the mental health hotline at nyu over it 2x Avoid this man at all costs
Barely did any teaching, we had to read the textbook ahead of each class. HW was a bunch of hard exercises that took hours and taught nothing about the material. It's like he wanted us to be intimidated by the course, which is counterproductive for an intro to higher-level math. Someone teach him how to teach!!
