Go to speak with him as much as possible and he will help you a lot.
Dr. Ngwendson is a very caring professor. He the only professor that is always checking how his students are doing, making sure they are getting their work done, offering his time to help with difficult subjects. He is lake a real father to his students.
He makes chemistry much more easier . His lecture notes are easy to understand because he simplifies everything .exams are not too difficult if you put in a little bit of effort (study with your review guidelines and you will be fine ) .he offers student the opportunity to earn extra credits. trust me -it helps .he is approachable.
I have had some great professors throughout my school (never a bad experience). However, Dr. Ngwendson sets the bar extremely high with the true attempt to not only teach but guide and help out. He will approach you if you don't approach him. I am trying hard not to say how nice of a person he is, focusing only on a teacherguide in him. Best one!
Dr. Ngwendson was a fabulous teacher. He is extremely helpful and always willing to go out of his way to help students who are struggling. He also gives his students many chances to catch up on homework missed and if you participate in class discussions you will get extra credit! I highly recommend taking Dr. Ngwendson's class!
I honestly do not think I would have passed this class without Ngwendson. He is very helpful and clear in his lectures. Participate and be considerate of other classmates is all he asks. He has a very clear way he wants you to study, which is very helpful if you are not good at science.
Want an A in chem? Take Julius' class! LOTS of extra credit. If you miss a deadline for hw or quiz he'll let you take it. Want to retake a quiz, you can do that too. Clear lectures, easy exams. Take his class!!!!!
Many opportunities for 2nd, 3rd, chances on making up material like HW's, quizzes, and even exams if you miss them. Class participation is lumped into a bonus extra credit at the end of the semester. Lectures were informative, instructor is clear with expectations and study route. RA's were inconsistent with lectures. Overall good classroom exp.
The first half of the semester was super easy. I got an A on both exams and he was very clear.. Then the 3rd test came up and it was one of the most difficult exams i have ever taken. Most people did terrible on the exam and he didn't seem to care. Then exam 4 came and the same thing happened. He is a great teacher but some of the exams are tough!
Chemistry is a tough subject. Julius does his best to make it better; he is clear in his expectations and in his teaching. There is hardly any extra credit given, labs are long & confusing. I thought the tests were very hard, especailly the 4th and final tests. Pop quiz every week that is open book. You must go to class as the subject is difficult.
He is an amazing person & kind individual. However, as a teacher he makes his own rules and whatever suits him. People who skipped 2 labs should fail the class but he made huge adjustment to override that rule outlined in his syllabus. However, he wont review my situation to grant me the next best grade that would have helped my transfer.
It's a chemistry class and expectation are high. It's not an easy class however Dr julius is one of the best teachers I ever had in chemistry. He gives good feedbacks, alor of extra credits , he reviews ghe exams with you and tells us what to expect. overall the best class I had in normandale. I recommend him to every student.
Best class. Easy A
Excellent professor, presented material in an easy to follow manner and explained it thoroughly and well. Examinations were all material covered in lecture (no suprises), The practice exams and problems in lecture are the kinds of problems you should expect to see in the exam. Was always willing to help you to a in lab, Extremely helpful overall.
This is a really challenging class and professor is there to help. There are random pop quizes every week and your not going to be told whether its from previous lecture or todays. His exams are tough and confusing sometimes. I would not recommend him if your not serious about chem. You'll work for every percentage!
He was a decent teacher, he knew his material but sometimes the lectures became long.
Julius is a good teacher. He has a good understanding of the course content and is available in both office hours and in the learning center. I recommend going there with random questions, which definitely brought things together for me.
Julius is one of the best professors I've encountered. He makes sure everyone is on the same page and understands the material until moving onto the next topic. Sometimes that does take up time, but overall helps us grasp the material better. If he taught at my home school, I would try to have him as my professor in my science courses.
Tests are hard! He will make deals or changes on tests if the whole class is slipping a bit but don't count on it. Highly recommend doing the service learning for extra credit! Make sure you pick people that are willing to help out for lab partners and group projects!!!
He is a very good professor. CHEM 1062 is a hard subject, but he makes it easier. He goes through problems very well during lecture. He is very helpful during lab, which is awesome. He is always willing to answer questions, and will respond to emails quickly. I would definitely recommend him.
I am taking a class of 50 students, so we don't get a lot of 1 0n 1 help. He also isn't very clear when responding to a question. Would never take again.
I don't understand how this guy has good ratings.... He is very hard to understand because of his accent. The whole class is completely lost. For our first exam the class average was 72% the second one, 68%. Clearly he isn't a good teacher if the whole class is doing this poorly on his exams. Nice guy, horrible teacher.
He is a very good professor, very clear. I would recommend him strongly.
I took Julius chem 1020 class, and i always were afraid to take chemistry, but he makes everything easy for you, I loved his class, and I will take 1050 with him also. he is very friendly and always there for you.
He's a nice teacher. Chemistry is not an easy class so don't expect to get good grade without studying and practicing. He gives 3 attempt for each quiz. The homework is not always easy or short but it's not hard to get at least 9/10. Don't miss the class, pay attention to his powerpoint slides and practicing are keys. His tests are not hard
He is a really good professor. He always reminds students to do their homework&quizzes online. He gives second chances. He gives unlimited amounts of guesses on homework and gives 3 chances for each quiz. Tests are not hard if you study. He also goes over any questions you have and is very helpful.
If you work hard, there is no reason for you not to do great in his class. BEST chem professor I've ever had. Always willing to help and gives second chances. 100 percent recommend. :) A truly kind and knowledgeable professor.
HANDS DOWN Best chemistry professor I've ever had. Patient and knowledgeable in his explanations. Provides students with all keys to succeed in his class. Rekindled my love for chemistry and science. What we need in this world, is more professors like Dr Ngwendson.
Professor Julis is an amazing teacher. I struggle to understand sciences and he helped to teach chemistry in a way that people like me could understand it. He is patient when students need extra explanations and truly wants his students to succeed. I would highly recommend taking chemistry from him! You will not regret it!
Amazing professor! Would definitely recommend him! His lectures are great and he's always open to questions. You get multiple tries for homework and quizzes and tests are not difficult if you study. He also gives a practice exam that is similar to the test. If you are willing to put in the effort, you'll do great!
Dr. Nwengson is the best chemistry teacher at Normandale! His grading is so fair. With every exam he will replace your previous lowest exam grade. For example, Exam 1 you received 75% and Exam 2 you received 90%, he will replace Exam 1 with 90%. And if you do even better on Exam 3 and receive a 95%, he will replace one of the 90% with 95%!
Pop quizzes are open text book. His final exam is exactly like his practice final exam, gives amazing lectures, very thorough, he makes sure everyone understands the materials before moving on to the next topic, very caring.
Open book quizzes, gives you everything to be expected crystal clear on an exam, grades very fair, awesome exam improvement incentive! He's extremely caring, great sense of humor, and he sticks to his schedule to a T. Very reliable :)
Dr. Julius is the best professor I have ever had. I straight-up failed chem 1 at the U of M, and barely passed the second time. Dr. Julius truly wants his students to learn and understand. His lectures are engaging, his workload is manageable, his tests are tough but doable. He sets you up for success, 100%. I can't recommend Dr. J enough. Best!
Julius has an amazing teacher style. He encourages success and offers your next best score to replace your previous bad scores. Therefore, he really gets you to try better next time. He's very respectful and always down to help and explain. Easy to get a B, A is definitely possible though. COME TO CLASS he has a quiz like every other week btw.
His teaching style is clear and very thorough, concepts are explained well. He provides study guides and practice exams to prepare you for tests! He also lets you know exactly what you need to know for each exam. If you do poorly on a test, you have the chance to redeem yourself on the next exam to replace your low score. Lectures are valuable!
Professor Ngwendson is an amazing teacher! Made everything understandable and was incredibly lenient on himeworks and quizzes. If the mass majority haven't done an assignment he'll give an extra day or two to work in it. Truly caring and inspiring. Just try not to sit in the back because it's hard to understand anything.
Julius has a great approach to teaching - your grade builds up through reasonably easy homework and quizzes weekly that take you piecemeal through the curriculum. The final exam material is not overwhelming and its weight is not excessive. I had no previous chemistry background and after this class I am equipped and hired to be a teacher's aide.
Julius was awesome! His notes were clear and easy to follow and the study guides really helped you prepare for tests. He conducted review sessions before tests which were a huge help. Extra credit wise, he offers it in an interesting form. If you do better on exam 3 than on exam 1 or 2, the exam 3 score replaces the worst score from exam 1 or 2.
Great
Very great
Amazing teacher. He is always available to help you when you need it. Go over the lectures, homework and quizzes to study for tests. Extra credit is available for each exam. Funny and nice. I learned many things and had fun during the course as well.
Dr. Julius the best instructor I ever had for the chemistry class. He makes me to love chemistry and I developed a confidence to take the next levels of chemistry. He is the most organized instructor and teaches with passion. He have a deep knowledge about the subject matter, put the course material together in precise way. I recommend students
He is a great professor!
This class is very time consuming but he makes the class so much easier. Great prof, take him.
Dr. Ngwendson is a gem! I'm finishing up my semester with him in Chem1020 and I couldn't have had a better professor. He's gentle, caring, explains the topics extremely well, and if you study the way he recommends, you will pass the class with no problem. Absolutely love the way he teaches. We need more professors like him.
I retook this class and switching teachers was the best decision. Julius is good about teaching the lectures like we are seeing this for the first time rather than some teachers that just reread what is written on the slide. Do your sapling homework, quizzes, exam practice and study guide and you will be fully prepared for the tests.
Julius is a nice guy and clearly very knowledgeable about chemistry. He lectures well but sit close to the front to be able to hear him because he doesnt project his voice the best. This class requires a ton of time! Theres graded homework, quizzes, labs and reading lengthy chapters every week. Read chapters before class! It helps.
Great instructor! Explains hard concepts very well and makes them seem simple. Always willing to answer questions. Likes teaching and helping students. Fair grader, tests on lecture material and lets you know what is going to be on the test. I would definitely recommend him.
Tbh I only attended about 1/3 of classes and thought this class was easy. I used the powerpoints to learn the material and did the practice exams to study. I think Julius could utilize the powerpoints more during lecture as there is some really helpful information in them. Extra credit opportunities for each exam was great. Would take again.
Julius is very knowledgeable in chemistry and explains everything clearly. If you are unsure, always ask him to clarify. Chemistry was a tough subject for me, but it was taught in a way that I could understand well. He also gives out a little extra credit every chapter. Study hard and follow in class, and you will do fine with him.
Julius is so nice! I've never really understood chemistry until I've taken a class with him. He puts study guides up that prepares you for tests as long as you study with that and finish your homework it should be easy!
Great professor! Study from the study sheet, similar concepts on the exam. Take this professor if you want to succeed in this course
Great professor, but make sure you sit close because he's hard to hear in lectures. Makes sure you will succeed and pretty easy to get an A as long as you do the online homework. Also gives you EC if you get A's on the homework and get a B or higher on the test. Skip the textbook and just get the online code.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. Make sure to ask questions in class when confused and go to office hours for help. I tried so many different ways to study for his exam. Take a different professor. He knows his stuff, but it was just hard to comprehend and prepare for the exams.
Three of us from the same family have taken this course from Doctor Ngwendson. He's a very good teacher.
Doctor Julius is an amazing professor. He knows what he is doing and is always well prepared for all of his courses. He is very understanding when it comes to concerns about your grades or assignments and will do anything in his power to help you get to the bottom of your concerns.
Usually, I love and excel at sciene courses! But, I cried many nights trying to study for this class. The professor can't teach, because he explains it in a complicated way! Honestly, if this was a self-taught class, it would have made more sense to me. if you want an easy chem class, look somewhere else.
good professor.
Dr. JN is the best professor I have ever had. He is kind, respectable, understanding and his passion for chem is contagious. He goes out of his way to help students succeed if they are willing to put the work in. This class is not an easy A class but by using the resources provided, an A is very attainable. (I recommend taking the summer class).
Professor Ngwendson regularly didn't finish chapters before assigning homework, wrote tests with confusing questions, sometimes ones that didn't even have a clear answer, and didn't provide many resources to self study for classes you missed. Plan on reviewing your incorrect test answers as many questions were the same on the final exam.
AMAZING professor! Yes, Chem 1020 is tough. I have never been good at science or math, and I really had to work hard to get an A in this class. This being said, Mr. Ngwendson REALLY wants his students to succeed. Easy grader, but you wont get anywhere by missing lectures or labs.
Julius is very straight forward. I never enjoyed science or chem, but he kept the lecture engaging, interesting, and very direct. He didn't hide what would be on tests and makes practice very accessible. He's a phenomenal professor and I wish I had him for 1050.
Julius is an amazing professor. Chem 1062 is a tough class but he keeps things organized and clear. He drills the concepts into you before getting to the tough stuff. He's very friendly and easy to talk to/get a hold of outside of class as well. If you go to class, read the text, and take notes during lecture you'll pass. No better prof for Chem!
Great professor! His lectures are clear and precise, so you always know what you should be studying for an upcoming quiz or exam. Always willing to answer questions and extremely helpful if you have any issues regarding class material.
LOVED Julius! Great lectures and really welcoming. He always made sure to answer questions to the best of his abilities. Great in labs, gave clear instructions and he is insanely kind. Does a review session before each test and gives study problems. Homework is mandatory. Has a strict syllabus he sticks to. Lectures cover everything on the tests.
Julius is a great professor who cares about his students! His grading criteria is clear and lectures are informative. Definitely recommend taking his class!
Professor Ngwendson is a great teacher, funny and responds fast but his lectures are quite long. He has 5 tests including finals and they are quite hard. If you plan on taking him, just make sure to stay on top of everything and ASK QUESTIONS or you will be lost. There is no room for extra credit.
Dr. Ngwendson was a great professor for introductory chemistry. There are 4 exams, 1 lab exam, and 1 final which are easy if you study for them. He hosts review sessions for the more difficult exams. Labs were easy. The textbook is online, so you dont need to worry about buying it. Wish he taught CHEM1050!
I took CHEM 1020 in 2018 while I was still in high school. He was a wonderful professor who cared about his students. His teaching style was way better than my high school teachers. He offers a great abundance of practice problems and helps you understand them. He prepares students well for the exams as well. They are fair game.
I took Gen Chem 2 summer of 2019 and I was pleased to have taken the class with him again. I previously had him as my professor for CHEM 1020. Gen Chem 2 was a bit of a struggle but he was always willing to help me understand the material better. Much respect for him. He's also resourceful during labs, too. Being sure to check-in and help you.
1062 is no joke and probably the hardest course I've ever taken. He gives good lectures and the quiz problems are often similar to exams, so be sure to study those. This class is algebra-heavy and some concepts were hard to understand (in my opinion), but he's always willing to help you. He responds to emails quickly and cares about each student.
Very easy to follow. Exams are very similar to practice tests given and he gives many chances for extra credit. Be wary of his tests because they open at 6PM even on Halloween. Can be hard to approach during lab but he gives a lot of slack and room for mistakes. Don't even try to cheat because he will investigate.
At the beginning of the semester, you have to find a study group. You will NOT pass this class by just doing the bare minimum. We had labs almost every week and the exams are locked. The homework isn't too bad. I haven't interacted much with the professor so I can't say much about him.
There are a lab, homework, and 2 lectures a week. Each lecture is about an hour and a half long but WATCH THEM. Especially prior to Exam 3. He will tell you it's the hardest and it is. He gave us an extra credit point for each PASS session we attended which added up quickly. This isn't a bare minimum class so focus in and make time for it. (:
Julius is an amazing professor. Tests and exams will determine your grade in his class. Treat every test as a review for the exams and you will do great. Make sure you go through test questions you got wrong to understand them for the exams. This will lead you to an A in his class.
I've taken a lot of science classes, especially Chemistry, and this professor is the type that every student wishes their professor was. His lectures was simple to follow and comprehend. Exams included review, so make sure you ask questions about anything you don't understand. Dr. Julius extremely helpful during lab sessions.
Such a good Professor. I took him for Chemistry in High School. Do all the extra credit assignments, ask for feedback on the labs, and do your practice exams for tests and exam preparations, then you should be fine getting an A in the class.
Dr. Ngwendson is a man with many skills. I was surprised to find out he is also a pastor. I am glad to have met him outside of class in person. Do not hesitate to reach out to him for help. He is a great listener. He cares about his students. The connection you have with your professor makes a huge difference in your success in class.
The course is very well planned out, as long as you do the work then you are all set. Try your hardest on the tests. Nothing in the course is busy work.
Best possible professor to take for Chem 2. He's kind, funny, and offers a lot of extra credit, and it seems like I will get an A even without stressing out completely over the class. You WILL still work hard for your A though.
Dr.Julius is a respectable, hilarious guy who genuinely cares for his students. Attendance is not mandatory but he's such an amazing teacher and professor that you'll find yourself WANTING to attend lectures. He answers emails almost instantly and is very willing to help students. There were only 4 exams + 1 cumulative final. Weekly homework.
I think Dr. N is a great choice for Principles of Chem 2. I learned a lot in his course, and he offers review materials for exams and allows you to go back and review the quiz questions you get wrong. My only problem with him is that his lectures are unedited recorded zoom lessons that are VERY long and difficult to stay engaged with.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Exams were taken through honorlock and we were forced to memorize loads of work. The teacher should never teach again. All the other reviews are lies!
I cannot understand the rating Dr. N. has on here. He makes chem 2 so much harder than it needs to be. Easily the worst professor I've ever had.
I cannot express enough how amazing this teacher is. Professor Ngwendson was extremely kind, caring and made the class fun. The lectures are very thorough and easy to follow. Grading is very fair, and he is always available and willing to help out with any questions. Class was very manageable and thanks to this teacher you will find great success.
All lectures are available online and are exactly the same as the in person lectures. You will be successful in this class as long as you put in the work and study. He let you know what will be on the exam as you go. Test are taken on honorlock, there are about four exams plus the final.
No valuable feedback, just puts an X on the labs if you're doing it online. Homework, done through Achieve was much more frustrating and difficult compared to the exams. His lectures are prerecorded and extremely long, it takes him awhile to get to the point. Exams are proctored, he drops one at the end if you do better on the final.
Very tough grader with no reason to back up a bad grade. Had to email a lot to fix incorrect grading. Tough to balance this class with other responsibilities. Lectures taught me nothing, half of them were prerecorded from 2020. Proctored exams were very difficult. Extra credit opportunities were my saving grace for this class
Respectfully, I don't understand the ratings. This class was extremely hard to balance with other classes. Tests are proctored. He provides extra credit opportunities, one includes a group, most of my group dropped the class due to how hard it was to balance. I would never take a class with this professor. VERY STRICT. Extra credit saved me.
Such a bad professor that I submitted a complaint to the school. His rating on here is a mystery to everyone I've talked to. If you do take his class, studying the chapter tests is a huge shortcut to succeeding on the exams. Take screenshots of all the chapter tests and study only them.
I don't understand these reviews. The exams are proctored and very difficult. The online lectures are slow pace and boring. The online exams have exact times they must be taken. Easily the worst teacher I've had
I took intro to chem online, Dr. N was very easy to communicate with. The lectures were long (put on 2x speed) but very clear and helpful. Homework on achieve, could get tedious but Dr. N was always very quick to respond to questions. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE or you WILL fall behind, especially with labs. Would take again. For a science class, not bad.
Pick a different professor, Idk whats going on in the class, HOLY longggg a** boring lectures, always taking away points for silly sh8ts on the labs gotta be the worst professor ever and the EXAMS ooooooweeee Start praying. And the homeworks T_T "5 points, 20 questions" 💀
Please do not take his class. The Lectures are recorded 4 years ago and are super slow paced. There are 5 exams in the semester all of which are very hard. The homework is basically worth no points and takes forever to do but is still required to take the exams. His class is so bad its not even funny.
Will work with you IF you communicate (can be a little picky but is usually really nice about stuff). Lectures are slow, long and old… awful!!! Sometimes reading/assignments don't align. Labs are decent and there are extra credit opportunities. Didn't like PASS, wasn't helpful. Study Group saved me!
This professor makes everything harder than it needs to be. The lectures videos are only above an hour because he talks at the pace of a turtle. Also lectures are 5 years old and will not be updated. If you do end up here, know that the study guides are question for question exactly like the exams. 5 exams in one semester btw which is way too much.
Be ready to figure most on your own
Be ready to not learn a single thing from this professor I advice to not take this class and take it if it's the last choice
I advice against taking this professors class as he will screw u over. He will get angry if I accidentally say sir instead of doctor and it will reflect on your graded assignments if he is happy with you or not
This professor was pretty good, but midway through the online course the formatting of the lectures changed so this made it a little difficult for me. But overall a pretty good course!
He made Chemistry 1020 very hard. The Prof. gave the class a formula to calculate what score we needed on the final to get an A. I did the math and scored higher than necessary on the final. But the Prof. later said I made a mistake and gave me a B instead an A. Why did he lower it? Don't understand.Long lectures, very low speed.Don't take this Prof.
Dr. N's CHEM1062 can be a challenge, but with the right approach, you can succeed. The exams are tricky, so using resources like practice tests and Unstuckstudy are key. Attend class, stay engaged, and you'll learn a lot.
Chemistry with Dr. Ngwendson was hands down the worst academic experience I've ever had. I am just baffled by his high score on here. His communication and expectations were unfair and bizarre.
Lectures are about 4-6 hours of videos per week, its him on zoom with a class in 2020 (COVID) or him by himself. Consists of labs, pre lab assignments, 1 achieve assignment (23 questions) weekly or biweekly, and a D2L quiz every week or other week that is worth 20-30 points. Class is 1,040 ish points. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. STUDY GROUP ASSIGNED
Is an okay teacher, be ready to learn a lot by yourself. He is very strict on his grading, everything has to follow each rule and the homework on achieve is just too much and picky. Will hand out a bad grade with no explanation or help. It's better if you reach out to him and ask for that help you need. Definitely wouldn't do it again.
Made very rude comments on my work without giving impactful feedback. Said things to me like "I have a very serious problem when dealing with numbers", rather than taking time to help me. I would not recommend him to new students.
Please do not take this professor. Not only was there 5 exams, his lectures were old zoom recordings from 6 years ago, and they were also all 2 hours long. If you don't refer to him as doctor he goes crazy. Hands down the worst academic experience i've had in my entire life. You could teach yourself the subject on your own and be better off.
Overall, the course consisted of 4 unit exams and a final exam. He recorded Zoom lectures from 2020 that can sometimes be difficult to follow, but the content is still accurate and helpful for the course and exam. He's an average grader on the labs, but the feedback on the labs was minimal. But overall, Dr. JN was a very nice and helpful professor.
overall his teaching is okay but get ready to be accused of cheating I have been accused of cheating alot of times and even risked to not be able to take the exam. His labs are very long and you need to prove everything,Things like not naming your file correctly can lead you to be accused of cheating. And you need to teach yourself most of the stuff
