She is a very nice and sweet professor. Super helpful and a very easy grader. you do want to go to class if you want to do well and quizzes are all from the HW.
Reads in monotone from the book, and can't teach or explain very well at all, but she does make the material a bit easier to balance that out. Gives a small amount of homework and the tests/quizzes are all based on that. Do the hw and use the physics tutoring lab, and you'll be fine.
Can hardly understand because of accent and doesn't review over a question if the whole class got it wrong.
She was very nice but I couldn't understand a word that she said because of her accent. I suggest sitting in the front row of the class if you want a chance to understand her.
She was whispered all semester. She doesn't really answer questions when asked in class. She zooms through the powerpoint. Basically, this is the worst class by the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. If I get a D in the class I'll be satisfied tbh. There's no review for tests and a cumulative final over 17 chapters. Save yourself.
3 tests all semester excluding final, one test is dropped. Lots of homework all can be found on quizlet, go to class or have a friend because there is a quiz almost every class. Tests are not too hard but this class is basically self taught because she blasts through the powerpoints and doesn't really answer questions
I can tell that she is caring and wants students to succeed, but I literally had no clue what was going on all semester. Be sure to go to class because there are pop quizzes about 1-2 times per week that you cannot make up if you miss. The only reason I passed this class was because I studied with friends.
Really sweet professor, but is a little hard to understand. Make sure you sit close to the front and go to class because there is a pop quiz pretty much every week. It is one of those classes you basically have to teach yourself so just be prepared.
This professor will put you too sleep. All she does is read straight off the powerpoint's in class. Make sure you study the powerpoint's and do the online homework's. That's the only way you'll pass the tests. There are multiple pop quizzes throughout the semester, so make sure you don't miss class.
For the love of God try to stay away from Jun. I HAD to get my physics credit and she was the only available instructor for me. She is AWFUL. Her English is badly broken, her understanding of the subject is poor and she is not helpful. Monotone and only reads slides. Doesn't give straight answers and is aggrivating. We all waned to drop the class.
Took Jun last semester and did what I can to NOT take her class again. Even though I selected another professor, I was placed back into Jun's class. She waits until the last few minutes to hand out a pop quiz, is very quiet and monotone and I had to teach myself because she only read from the slides and went through the powerpoint too fast.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken. The professor is kind but that's the only positive thing about the course. Homework is easy. All online. No reason not to get an A on that. Quizzes are okay. Not too hard. You have to show up to class for those. Exams on the other hand? Yeah... Pretty hard. 4 exams before final. Lowest 2 dropped.
Course material was fairly simple, but the teaching style is awful. She is very quiet and monotone and won't use the microphone, reads strictly from the slides and moves very quickly. The slides are posted online. I had to teach myself all the material. There are pop quizzes that take attendance in class, and she is not forgiving for missing tests.

Professor Xiao is alright. Be sure to sit upfront because her soft voice and accent make it a little hard to understand. She gives quizzes randomly at the very end of class so its best not to leave early because those grades really matter. She is very lecture heavy so there isn't a lot of interaction so prepare lot of listening and note taking.

Physics was a tough subject for me. Her lectures were straight from power points from the book She gave out "random" pop quizzes, usually after we finished a chapter so you could kind of guess when to expect one. Attendance wasn't mandatory but one day she took those present in class and awarded extra credit points for attendance.
She speaks softly and has an accent that can make it hard to understand what she is saying at times. She only reads the slides which are basically taken from the book and she doesn't seem to know the material herself very well. Unless you are already good at Physics, I would not recommend you take her class as you will need to teach yourself a lot.

This was my first class at 8am in the morning. Having her as my first prof of my freshman year was very discouraging. Xiao is far from a prof, or even a teahcer, because she can hardly teach! She's extremely reserve, boring, and unintelligible. She has a thick accent. Reads straight off slides. Attendance only mandatory during random pop quizzes.
You will not be able to understand her half the time! Shes the type of professor that expects everyone to know what shes talking about and wont stop to explain. If she does stop you basically dont learn anything new because her voice is so soft and hard to understand
Professor Xiao is fine. She has a VERY strong accent but a sweet lady. You NEED to go to every class because there are pop quizzes online that are found on Quizlet (which makes them easy). Homework is on Quizlet as well. This is a very easy class but it is very boring so I do recommend but I also dont recommend if you actually want to learn Physics
If you're not a math person she can be hard to follow. She teaches based on her powerpoints & after every chapter there is a quiz in class (some answers are on quizlet) so be sure to go to class. She will catch you giving people the code for quizzes. Study the powerpoints & quizzes for exams. Overall a tough class but put in the work & you'll be ok
To start off, you won't be able to understand this professor at all. She is so soft spoken and can barely say basic physic words like acceleration and momentum. I went to her office hours for help to know luck and you basically have to teach yourself. This is the only class I've every dropped so don't make the mistake i did of taking this class!!!!
I went into this class terrified because of the reviews, but she really is not that bad. She is soft spoken and has a hard time pronouncing things, but if you listen and actually pay attention you will learn. She is very kind and caring, so if you are having trouble go to her office hours. She gives pop quizzes so go to every class.
Absolute sweetheart. Get to know her. You can pretty much figure out when her pop quizzes are by when she changes to a new unit. This is easier than your HS physics class, I promise. Hardest math is 2+2, plus you get a calc. Don't waste money on the textbook, just get learning catalytics and pearson. Xiao is a great prof everyone else is just mean.
There was a lecture everyday & completely difficult to understand with her thick accent. She gives reviews before the test but they really do not help whatsoever. I hate Science. So my motivation to study was at 3. She is so sweet, thick accent, she is very prompt & does not like to waste time. She seems to know her stuff, gives random pop quizzes and takes attendance randomly. She posts slides online, homework every Sunday night, no study guides, gives good examples, very boring lectures.
Dr. Xiao is very accommodating and kind. You couldn't fail this class unless you were absolutely not trying at all. She is lecture-heavy, but our class interacted A LOT. Dr. Xiao encourages it! Half the time we sounded like a game show, calling out answers, and we laughed a lot. But we learned better that way. Ask for help and you will get it.
Professor Xiao is very monotone and quiet. Very difficult to follow along with. I would not recommend her to any student who needs an engaging professor to follow along. She does random attendance credit throughout the semester but it only counts for a small portion of your grade. Online homework can be looked up on quizlet for an easy A.

There are a lot of bad reviews, but I decided to give this Professor a chance and I'm glad I did. Most people commented on her accent and I think that is just ignorant. I went to class and completely understood everything she was saying. This course does require you to work hard in class, but THIS IS COLLEGE. Work for the grade you want to receive!
I was skeptical about taking Xiao, and mostly everything I read was true. She is hard to understand, moves fast during lecture, and doesn't really answer questions directly. Lectures weren't clear so I had to go back and teach myself. Quizlets for this class are a hit or miss so buy the text book and get a good understanding. Pop quizzes randomly.
Dont take her! her lectures are very hard to understand and she goes very fast. We covered 2-3 chapters everyday and didnt let us catch up. I had to teach myself the material outside of class. Dont need the text book.
Worst professor I have ever had. She has absolutely no presence or control in the classroom. Fails to capture and maintain students' attention because she's so passive and talks so quietly and monotone. When she asks questions she doesn't call on people if no one is talking, she literally just waits in silence for someone to answer. It triggers me
To say that professor Xiao isn't a caring woman is a lie. She does want everyone to succeed and helps by giving drops, and some extra credit. Personally, I do not think she was a very good teacher. After five months of lecture, hours of studying, and many questions, I still feel like I haven't learned anything. Her accent is rather thick.
First off, the reason why all these other students gave Xiao a low rating is because they never pay attention. She uses a point system that benefits you. Gives you easy online hw, and weekly quizzes that are 5-6 questions that are super easy as well plus open note. Tests are 40 Q's max that are straightforward. She's super nice, I ended with a 97.
Xiao is by far one of the worst professors I have ever taken. She is incredibly hard to understand and can't answer questions to save her life. Not hard to understand the material if you teach yourself. Anyone who said she's a good teacher is kidding themselves. If you can take another professor, DO IT. Do yourself the favour.
Although This professor has a thick accent she is great at what she does. her quizzes are easy so is the homework for this class as along as you pay attention in class and attend every class if you miss a class you will be behind. Her tests were lecture based and easy to do without a crazy amount of questions.

I haven't felt inclined to write a review until I had this professor. She is an extremely tough grader and is very confusing as a professor. She does not give reviews and her lectures do not make much sense. I highly suggest finding a different teacher unless physics is your major but even then I wouldn't recommend. Very bad at answering questions!
I feel like she is a sweet lady but her lectures were confusing and the class itself is really hard. You must go the extra mile to get a good grade. I think the class got off to a rough start but she got a little better. You have to go the extra mile to get a good grade. I wouldn't recommend but your chances of another professor are slim to none.
I don't really understand why the ratings are so low for this professor, but I found her class to be manageable once you get into the swing of things and attend class along with doing homework and quizzes. I took this class online. She made us teach ourselves and would only have a few classes on zoom. They were not mandatory but it helped to find out what you did wrong on quizzes. I don't like physics so this class was hard for me but if you like physics this class should be fine for you. She's a little hard to understand because of her accent.
Took this class online during summer. You will have quizzes(most answers are on quizlet, which I didnt know) she does very few lectures. She provides notes and go over quizzes with you but her explanation is not thorough. test with zoom camera. Group quizzes during lectures for extra credit. Physics isnt my strong area, wouldnt take again.
she only does one lecture every 2 weeks and gives 14 minute lecture videos for the chapters she doesn't teach. she doesn't go into detail on the chapters and uses the textbooks PowerPoints to teach. her accent is very strong and hard to understand and in her zooms her wifi goes out in the middle of class and she dissapears
She has powerpoints and lectures prerecorded for each chapter. I preferred reading from the book and watching the videos because it was easier to understand. There's homework for each chapter but they're all on Quizlet. I think the quizzes were harder than the exams. Make sure to join the meetings for extra credit at the end. Def helped get me an A
Prof Xiao is a great person. Critiquing someone on your inability to understand their accent isn't cool and not their problem. That being said, this was a really hard course for me-- definitely attend lectures and use her power points to study, and don't wait until the last test to try to save your grade like I did (she does drop one exam)
Her class is pretty easy. The homeworks are an easy 100% and the quizzes are based off the lectures and homework. Her lectures are boring, but I still recommend attending them, since they help for quizzes and exams. The exams are easy, I have gotten A's on them so far. You don't need to read the textbook to get a good grade. I recommend her.
The lecture slides are straightforward and she provides many questions in her PowerPoint slide to challenge your active learning with the material. Showing up to class and participating in answering her question will really help improve your grade. You can also always ask for additional help if you don't understand the materials.

Professor Xiao is amazing! Classes are very lecture/PowerPoint heavy, but consist of everything you will find on the exams. 3 exams, 1 cumulative final. Quiz and homework assignment for each chapter. You do not need to read the textbook, just pay attention during the lectures. She is the sweetest little lady who really cares about her students!(:
Professor Xiao is a very nice professor and she provides all the materials needed for her class. In her lectures she goes fast but, you can always go back and rewatch which I highly recommend. The test can be somewhat difficult so study the concepts well. Know the powerpoint questions, quizzes, and homework to do well.
Not very engaging, teaches off a very boring PowerPoint. Tests get harder every time and shes very hard to understand with her accent. Barely passed with a 71.
She is VERY strict when it comes to test policies. I found her class pretty difficult and her lectures hard to understand/follow. She will not let you out early even if she's covered the curriculum for the day. If you can take another professor I would.

Y'all avoid this professor at all costs. Her lectures are not only hard to understand and confusing but she doesn't give proper study guides and is really unorganized in the class in general. Quizzes and homework are given but it barely moves your grade if you get 100s and the average mostly comes from your exams which are difficult.
I don't know why people say bad things about her. She provides good lectures if you pay attention and actually try in the class. Homework and quizzes could all be found on quizlet, but you won't need them if you read and take good notes. She was a great teacher and encouraged participation in class. As long as you attend class you'll make a good grade. She does have a bit of an accent so it's hard to understand at first but it gets easier
Honestly, I would NOT TAKE HER EVER AGAIN. If science isn't your thing and you aren't a stem major this isn't the professor for you. I also do not suggest for Education Majors. I barely passed. However she does give extra credit so that is nice. Other than that go with anything else... literally anything
I know that there are a lot of bad reviews about Professor Xiao, but I really enjoyed the class. I took this class in the fall (2021) and really enjoyed it. She was a really sweet person and her attendance wasn't mandatory although I would suggest showing up because the notes are extremely important and helpful. I would take her again!
I never knew the fear of pop quizzes until this class. Every. Single. Class. You will have a pop quiz. Attendance is absolutely mandatory in my opinion. 75% of your grade is based on exams, so you better study for them. The lectures are informative and easy to take notes on. If you show up to class, pay attention, and take notes you'll be fine.
Go to class, you will pass. Lectures r easy to follow along & she provides many practice problems to help us understand better. There r quizzes at the end of class, but she lets us know that at the beg. of the year. Quizzes generally r similar to questions asked throughout lectures. She's kind & I would love to write more if we had more characters.
Dr.Xiao seems like a nice person, but her class wasn't for me. I wouldn't suggest this professor for students who like having a lot of control over their grades. Around 75% of our grades rely on tests. Another percentage is pop quizzes (that happen almost every lecture). Luckily the test questions are similar to quiz questions. She is nice though

There are no exam reviews so attending class is essential if you want to understand what's going on for the exams.
Professor Xiao is a very passionate physics teacher. However, this class is not easy. It's not a blow off class. It's not a class you can skip and not attend and expect to have a good grade. My high grade reflected my attendance in her class and participation. If you show up to class, do the quizzes she provides, and study you will do just fine.
Overall this class isn't bad. If you need to take it as an easy elective it's definitely that. Easy in the way where it wont be hard to stay afloat and keep a good grade if you go to class and ensure to take all the pop quizzes. Attendance is mandatory and is kept with a code on canvas as well as there being a quiz at the very end of every class.
My class had a pop quiz every day at the end of the lecture. It was easy if you pay attention. The exams/ quizzes were all on Canvas. I personally recommend going over the lesson/ chapter in your textbook or slides before class so it makes more sense. Besides her lectures, she is an understanding Professor.
Professor Xiao is a very concise lecturer & provides ample coverage of course materials. I would recommend taking notes on the slides before class & taking additional notes on any example problems she covers - it helps a lot to walk into every class w/ some knowledge of the chapter. Pop quizzes are given at the end of nearly every class via Canvas.
Very laid back and notes and lectures are based from the textbook which is an easy read and has many practice problems that are used on tests and quizzes
Very sweet lady who cares for her students. She has a bit of an accent but you get used to it pretty quickly. Pop quizzes everyday but they are pretty easy as she prepares you for them very well. Would definitely take this class again, love a teacher who can make a calming learning environment.

She was a great Professor, easy to get ahold of and very informative. She speaks softly but don't tell that shy you away from taking her. She was a sweet professor the course was difficult but study using homework and quiz questions/equations. I ended with an 89.55% and she was nice enough to round up since I attended every class, improved in exams, and did all the extra credit provided in class. She is someone who is very understanding and is accessible outside of class
Professor Xiao was pretty nice, but she talks in a low tone so it was hard for me to focus during her lectures. I do not like physics in general so I had a hard time understanding concepts and what was being taught. We had quizzes basically every class so I would say attendance is mandatory.
I dropped her because of how much I missed when it came to lectures. I went to every class, but I couldn't hear/understand her whatsoever.We would have to write on the board, and she'd just shake her head but then say the explanation that we couldn't hear.

I struggled in Dr. Xiao's class. She has an accent, and on top of that, she speaks very quietly. If I were to ask a question, she wouldn't answer it fully, and that made the material extra confusing. If you plan to take Physics, I would recommend to steer away from Dr. Xiao.
Yes, she has an accent, but it's not bad. The content is easy to understand, especially if you took a physics class in high school. The math is quite easy, and we are given a formula sheet on every quiz and exam. I didn't study at all in this class. There is a quiz every day, but sometimes we could work together. Just listen to her lectures.

This is coming from someone who did 2 years of physics in high school so take it with a grain of salt. Apart from her accent, she is clear and precise with conceptual and mathematical problems. It helps to engage in discussion, even if you know you're wrong. Read the notes, do the homework on time, and you'll be fine for the quizzes and tests.

Honestly, its Physics so of course it was decently hard, but she was super sweet and supportive. Her accent never bothered me and I always knew what she was saying. Just pay attention because she explains everything so good.
Xiao Jun's 1310 class is not as difficult as people make it seem. The class is full of pop quizzes and in class extra credit opportunities so your chance at getting an A is dependent on your attendance. She usually lets students work together on quizzes and they are open note. For exams, just review the quizzes and your notes. That's all really.
Her accent is VERY thick. Reading these reviews, I thought I would be able to understand her alright, but it is truly impossible to understand her through her accent and the microphone she uses. She talks very quickly and often mumbled. I only got through the class by tutoring and Kahn Academy.
She speaks very quietly into the microphone making it heard to hear, and the fact that she typically goes through topics too fast. The lectures are basically word for word straight from the textbook, she does drop the lowest exam and 2 quizzes but it is hard to keep your grade up even(majority of ur grade is 3 exams). No study materials practically
Professor Xiao is a great person and has great intentions when teaching, however, she has a very thick accent that makes it nearly impossible to grasp ideas or understand what she is saying during lectures. To pass the class, you MUST read and study the textbook, as learning from the lectures is very difficult.

This professor speaks in a monotone voice, wasn't very engaging with the material, and moved at a fast pace, so It was easy to get distracted or lost during their lecture. She gave us quizzes the same day we would finish a PowerPoint, with no time in between to understand or let the information covered really stick.
This was genuinely the easiest science class I've ever taken. If you're not into math it's perfect, you rarely need to calculate. The professor DOES have an accent, but it's truly not hard to understand if you pay attention. Stay off your phone, participate, and take notes to do well. I love her so much, she deserves no slander.
