The WORST instructor. Fails to explain his materials in class, and gives hard midterms + finals! u need to be very good at math to pass his course. His notes are too simple and needs elaboration! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!

His english do need improvement, lots "and","so"... Lecture is not interesting, but still understandable. Still, his exam is relative fair. I hate too easy exams in other econ courses, that everyone got grades not depending on performance but TA. Recommand: DO practice or past exams.

Typical ESL grad student doing lectures. Very responsive to suggestions and questions. If you prefer algebra over calculus, take the class with him. Otherwise, stick with any of the other lecturers.

Yeah, his english isn't good, but its perfectly understandable. As long you pay attention in class & take good notes you'll be fine. I found the textbooks & tutorials to be purely optional - just make sure u completely understand his lecture notes. And do all his past exams. I got an relatively easy A by doing that, and I'm not even an ECON major.

He's a really nice guy. I had to deal with him personally a few times and he was always accomodating. Make sure you can do the comparative statics with the models, don't worry about the math.

hard...tough, I am still in this class, the mids are hard, but never know why the class avg are still so high for 2 mids. the mids are tricky, past mids and final are useless, Jliu will just change very much for every possible questions. So dun trying to memorize his format of testing you guys! That's all!!! good luck

His notes are very clear and detailed. Midterms were fair but final exam was tough. Over 80% the final exam was on lump-sum and per-unit stuff. So memorize it.

A really nice prof with a thorough understanding of the course, but his exams were tough! His final tested much more theory than his calculations-based midterms. If you ever go and see him during office hours, he is always happy to help. Do not skip his lectures, you need his notes!

Avg for MTs are 61-64%, grades on curve. Junjie, good prof, but hard to understand w/ his accent. TA YiLin was sort of BETTER. Material is NO DOUBT HARD. Junjie, not a big calculus person, there was still calculations, but NO TRICKY calculas, THANK GOD. Knows his stuff very well.

Screw the Textbook! The textbook will confuse you, only focus on his notes. Liu is better than the other two 301 profs (Martin & Tchkinov), at least Liu won't treat this as a math class, he focus less on calculus and a lot more on theories. Liu's exams are also the most unexpected out of my 3 yrs in SFU. Liu's "B" range and "C" range is very large.

Organized, easy-going and helpful prof. The lecture notes he sent u are hard to understand if u dun attend lectures. make sure u focus on the notes while studying for exams. The tutorial questions are almost completely different from the exams! Lucky enough that midterms are fairly easy, but final exam is very tough.

Notes are everything. Study the notes and you should be fine. Not too much math, mostly theory form notes (75%theory, 25%math). Hard to understand sometimes during lecture. Didn't find him very helpful during office hours.

He is the best professor at SFU!! His notes are clear and easy to follow. His lectures are interesting and informative. Plus he is also very very good at explaining. Junjie should definitely teach more courses at SFU! This will make our lives much easier ^^

Liu is a GOOD teacher. He comes to class and lectures with his well almost perfect notes and answers your questions somewhat well but go to him one on one and he will answer much better. You need to just go to class and your grade will improve by a letter grade atleast. Liu is also very funny!!!

Junjie is friendly and his notes are exactly what he talks about in lectures. His notes are pretty much summaries of the text so if you understand the notes no need to read the book. His midterms were easy but his final was a killer.

Junjie is an excellent professor whose lecture notes were clearly and concisely laid out each class. His midterms and final exam (although final was challenging) almost perfectly reflected what was taught in the lectures making it very easy to follow along during the sem. and study for exams. I'm taking another class w/ him b/c he's THAT good.

Junjie's a nice prof. But he's definitely not good at teaching/communicating his ideas during the lectures. All he does is simply regurgitating the things he read off the textbook. His notes are copy&paste from the textbook as well. I couldn't say for other courses but don't take this course with him. Spend your time/effort on something valuable.

If you get higher than a B+ for either Econ 103 or Econ 290, avoid this course. This course has minimum course load - two midterms and one final - but the materials are unclear and self-contradictory. Thought this was a GPA booster, but it ended up otherwise. AVOID Junjie with this course if you are good at microeconomics.

I want to curse all the people who told me to take a course with him... Hard and confusing exams. Materials based on the notes, and the notes aren't that much of help for me. The course workload is like 'none'. You can't really do any practice in this course other than going over past midterms. Are you genius? then you can try his courses.

Junjie is so calculation based that he cannot explain anything unless it is a math based problem. He is so caught up in writing calculations in lecture and tutorial that he never answers questions. Course difficulty, well I am getting a A in Econ 291 and all my other courses and getting a C- in his course. Nuff said...

This guy is the most straight-forward prof you will ever get. You probably won't use the textbook,, I sure didn't.. this class is very little work.. 2 midterms 25% each and final worth 50%.. 90% of the questions are from your NOTES..JunJie is a good man

he is the typical asian prof. loves math, straight forward notes, teaches them as he copys it from his notes, EXTREMELY HIGH EXPECTATIONS ON MIDTERMS AND FINAL! hes gives great notes and easy textbook but he will ask you killer questions so memorization will not matter here. He tests you on your comprehension.

If you read and understand everything about his notes and the textbook, you will do ok. TAs give out answers for weekly questions in tutorials, definitely helpful. However, prof needs to improve his English so all students can understand him clearer.

Junjie is a mediocre professor, with poor and unclear notes. I did all my learning from the textbook, and ended up doing fairly well in the class. His marking scheme is pedagogically limiting (2 midterms, 1 final), but the tutorials are helpful for actually learning the material. While Junjie is not a good professor, he's not necessarily a bad one.

I really liked my course with Junjie. He's very concise in his notes and he writes everything he says so you shouldn't miss anything in lecture. The exams were fair and his assignments were helpful. He won't work to get you interested but he will effectively teach you the material.

he said his notes are enough for the course,its not true...went to every lecture and at the end i ended up photo copying the textbook for detailed info or else...since his notes are extremely brief...dont even anticipate a good mark if you just study his notes. Final is extremely hard, some questions are gay that are not even taught in class.

All I got to say is he's impossible to argue with. TA's were much more helpful but the teaching staff for this course tends to pass around responsibility too much.For example, TA1 says "I agree, talk to prof for marks" Prof says, "Mmm I dont know, talk to TA2." TA2 says, "Only prof can change marks, talk to him." WWWWWWTFFF

The textbook he uses is very helpful for exams. His notes are right out of the textbook so if you read the short chs. you should do well on the exams. Recommend taking ECON103 prior to 105 with him. Grades are all based on 2MTs = 25% each and one final 50%. Overall, its an easy A-/B if you put in the time to learn the stuff.

A lot of people have time understanding him because of his accent, but it's not THAT bad. Besides, he writes everything he says on the overhead anyway. Lectures are dry and it is rare to get more insight into economics. Final is brutal and exam questions are weighed disproportionally- imo. If you don't understand him, use the text- it's the same.

Once you get over his accent, his notes are easy, All notes are written on an overhead, so easy to follow. Hw is straight from the notes. Midterms are fair, final is tough if you dont study, only used the text to study for the final. Great guy

Tried getting his help early in semester, never emailed me back. Went to all tutorials, did textbook questions and studied like mad, still only barely passed midterms because he throws curveball questions at you. Won't let you clarify questions in the exam, but his poor english cost the class grades on the 2nd midterm because of that. Ridiculous!

I like his lecture notes which clear and easy to understand and same as the textbook.Mt and final will kill you! specially 2 hours to write the final exam with 8 questions each of them have A,B,C parts. As I remembered 3 or 4 ppl left after 30 min of 2hr exam.. i guessed they done or give up..

Either go over his notes really well, or read the textbook. Notes are short and and direct, but the book will provide you with more information and theory behind the economics- probably comes more handy during the tests. MTs are alright- first one had like 70+% average, Final is very brutal- much harder concepts, need to know EVERYHTING.

The textbook is a great read, it does a good job of explaining the concepts. His lecture notes are basically words taken from the textbook, but his notes do focus on the main points if you don't like studying from the textbook. I thought midterms were relatively straightforward, too easy that he had to make the final harder (It was very brutal).

An average prof, his midterms were all right but his final was insanely difficult. Averages for both midterms were about 60-70% and the final was around 45%... His notes are basically the same as the text so you could study either one and do fairly well.

midterms were ok, the final was BRUTAL! i didn't even know why i had to study, because all the answers to the final were basically NOT from the textbook for anywhere! TAs are somewhat helpful. if you find a mistake on mt marking, don't even bother asking for that extra mark, cuz they won't give it even if u're right!

His english skills are fine. Much better than average. His course notes are very thorough, but I'd rather a prof that tries to tie in real life present situations instead of just teaching out of the textbook. Study hard for the midterms and do well because the final is pretty brutal and you'll thank yourself later. The course is curved.

By far the nicest prof i have ever had. His midterms and finals are very hard but also EXTREMELY fair. Attend tutorials even though they are not mandatory because it is the only way you'll do well. He is extremely helpful and his midterms/finals are very similar to the practice ones

I would suggest you guys to buy past midterm papers as reference! It was very helpful, because he gave similar questions on the final too! So MAKE SURE you study ALL your midterm papers and the MC practice questions! GOOD LUCK everyone.

His class is very simple. No surprises whatsover. If you do and understand the weekly questions (which are usually only 4/week), you will excel. Notes are well-organized. Easy to do well, he is difficult to understand at times b/c of his accent but material in this class is easy enough so that it doesn't really matter.

One of the best professors this semester. Took both Econ 105 and 103 with him. His tests are straightforward, clear, and very, very similar to the practice exams and tutorial questions. Class average for both midterms around 75% and the course gets scaled. Accent isn't too bad, and you really get used to it after a while.

HEADS UP: He does have an accent, but it's not that bad at all. He is perhaps the most helpful prof I've had yet. He will answer any / all questions during the lecture, and sticks around for both the break and after lecture to answer any / all questions that have arisen. You will have nearly weekly assignments but they're simple + short!

Excellent notes, always available online. However, if you want answers to some of the questions in the notes, you will have to attend lectures. The lectures are a bit on the boring side, but the prof is always happy to help. Read the notes before and after class and you should be fine. Good luck!

Liu gives straightforward lectures. His slides are well corresponded with the textbook and serve as excellent review material. He is approachable and open to provide help. Exams are fair and you can do well if you take the time and effort to review.

Attend lectures even though he has the slides available online! During lecture he specifies what is important and what isn't, and goes through examples which aren't on the lecture slides. Do all the tutorial questions, and practice exams as they are similar to his actual exams! Very easy to beat the curve if you follow these instructions :)

8:30am class and his monotone voice did not keep me awake. Coming from a non-business background, it was confusing. Felt like I got thrown into the world of Econ. Tests were hard; involved a lot of calculations and graphs. Lectures were confusing, he just reads off the slides. I learned more from Google than his lectures.

Junjie is a great professor and he is always available for extra help. He basically put everything you need to know in the lecture slides, so the textbook is not really necessary. The final and midterms were very similar to the tutorial questions. Even some MCs were copied directly from the practice MCQs. Highly recommend Junjie for 105!

Great prof, everything is straight forwards and there are no curve balls. Minimal weekly review and tutorial question completion is absolutely enough to get an A. His lectures sometimes get boring and you may stop paying attention but his slides are so amazing that you'll be fine nonetheless. Best prof I've had thus far, highly recommend his class.

Junjie Liu has a really thick accent that is extremely hard to understand creating a barrier for a student to understand course material. He also relies on his powerpoints a lot when teaching. He would read off the slides and expand on his points minimally. I wish that I could have understood his better to receive a better grade.

Junjie knows his stuff, but he does not know how to teach. He's been approached with questions numerous times but he doesn't know how to teach concepts in an effective way. He shows a lack of understanding for students who don't understand concepts fast.. It was a mistake taking a class with him.

His lecture is kind of boring, but I need to say that he is a pretty nice teacher. In his class you can get an A even A+ easily, at least easier than other professors. What you need to do is previewing his PPT and making some notes about emphasis in advance. More importantly, do his practice certainly after his class and you will get at least B.

All Junjie did was read off the slides, which was not helpful for people like me who needed more explanations behind Econ concepts. I had to rely on outside help and tutors. His tests were heavily math based with formulas and graphs. His accent made it a little hard to understand him too. One of the worst profs I've had in my 4 years here at SFU.

junjie is such an amazing prof! I took 103 with seong jun and got a c- and then took 105 with junjie and got a B+. His exams are super easy and literally same questions as practice. So much easier to get an A with junjie comparing to others. I def would recommend him

Don't take this class whatever you do. I studied a week straight for this class and still ended up doing really poor. He is a very hard marker, exams are confusing/make no sense, and he doenst event teach he just reads off of his lecture slides thats it. He makes no sense when he talks, and even the TAs agreed the exams were way too hard. Avoid!

In class, he just read off the slides and did not teach, however, you don't really need to attend the class to know the materials. Everything he taught and everything in the exam can be easily countered by reading from his slides and working on MCQs. No need for textbook.

He only reads off from slides so no need to attend lecture. Midterms and exams are way harder than the practices. He makes exams only 1 hour with 4 written questions (needs to upload) and 20 Mcqs with lots of math involved. No one finished the exam. Class average was around 59% so wouldn't recommend taking this class.

The amount of instructional time that he provided was less than the amount required for the course. Implemented self-studying that's ineffective as Econ103 isn't a breeze of a course. He read off of his slides and taught blandly with not much detail and restricted the time limit on the midterms and final to only 1 hour. Would rate a 0 if possible.

Junjie have quizzes for 2 chapters each week which are hard. He has very thick accent to understand and he simply reads off the slides. He doesn't teach in detail when needed. The most annoying thing is that his exams have very little time, most of the class missed questions every time. And he doesn't increases time for exam.

It's really difficult to enroll in his classes. I guess that tells something. So I just waited patiently for a space to show up. I'm glad that I made the right decision. I did very well in midterms. I'm confident that I can do well in the final and get my first A at FIC.

Of the worst classes I have had at Alexander College, Professor Junjie Liu only reads the slides, when grading only see the results and does not observe the procedures, makes evaluations with more than 20 formulas that must be memorized. His accent is very complicated to understand, for a course of this level the professors should have good diction

Junjie is one of the best econ profs at SFU/FIC. He teaches everything perfectly. He even tries to give quizzes which help to better understand the material taught. His accent might be a little problem for few but other than that there is no flaw. His tests are also quite easy and you just need to take a look on his notes to score well.
