I took a yoga class with her, but she did not seem that friendly and approachable. Show up to class ON TIME, b/c she will be VERY irritated if you don't. There's no homework, and only two writing assignments. It's a very easy class to pass, but doing yoga for an hour and 30 minutes will become repetitive and boring.
Took a intro to pilates class with her. Doesn't do much in the way of hands on teaching, basically she just demonstrates the poses and we copy them. Nice relaxing class, we never started on time so it was always short. Take home final and we had to know and demonstrate 3 poses for the final. Not the most interesting class/teacher, but an easy A.
I took her Hatha Yoga class. It's a definite easy A, just be sure to go to class because you lose participation points if you don't go. I thought her teaching method was okay, she would teach the pose and throughout class she would go around correcting you. It was a pretty good workout too because you have to concentrate on balance and the muscles.
i took her pilates class easy A. Take her as a PE. She has an accent but you will get used to it. Also she is very nice!
Linafelter's so cute! Come to her class because it's participation points. You can only miss 2 classes without losing points, any more than that she lets you make up for them, but only a maximum of 3 classes. Only 1 easy written assignment and 1 test (final). Taking her class has encouraged me to continue practicing yoga every day!
I took this teacher for pilates. It was an easy A. There's one really easy written assignment and the final, in which you're given five poses at random. I highly recommend taking this teacher!
I took her for both Pilates and Yoga. She is easy to follow and very helpful. She is very sweet and these classes were both easy. You get two free absences and those are helpful but missing a couple more still got me an A. She knows names more than you expect. I didn't feel like Pilates was a good workout but yoga was amazing.
She's super easy. Don't be rude, and she'll be great the entire semester. She's a cute little japanese lady with a fairly thick accent. If you have any questions, she's easy to approach and is always willing to help.
I took her class because I thought it would be fun, but it was completely NOT what i expected! Some of the movements were difficult and when the class didn't do it right she'd yell at us! She has to understand that there are people who are just not as flexible as her! It is NOT an easy A class! it is NOT enjoyable
I thought Yoga would be a relaxing class, and most importantly an easy A. Well, i began to think differently. Your allowed to make up 3 classes. Some of the poses are super difficult to keep for long periods of time and you may or may not be correctly by her for it. She has a thick accent so make sure to listen carefully!
Took her for piltes. Great teacher. Learned alot. starts out slow, but towards the end you get a great workout.Highly recommended.
if you want an A then don't skip any classes. attendance is most of your grade. easy class for the PE requirement.
I took this class for an easy A and this class was exactly that. Attendance is important since she does collect journals at the end of each class, so she'll know if you're there or not. Final is super easy, just make sure you have the book to look up the answers since it is an open-book final. You also need to remember the positions!
I've always wanted to take Pilates, and I really enjoyed it. It's easy and a decent workout. Class attendance is important, but I missed 4 classes and still got an A without making up any of those classes. Review the positions for the final, have the book on hand, and you'll pretty much be set for an A.
I have always loved yoga, but her class was very boring. She did not leave students with a better understanding of yoga and lacked enthusiasm. Students definitely hated going to this class. It always felt like a waste of time. Other yoga classes are great though. If she was more enthusiastic and helpful it might have been a good class.
Her class was easy and relaxing. The green sheet said we had assigned readings, but I'm pretty sure nobody did it. She assigned one paper due on the day of the final (which was open book, open note, & she provided a study guide). This class is an easy A if you're willing to show up & participate.
She is very helpful during class. It's hard to understand what she is saying due to her accent and the annoying noises in the judo room, but great teacher. Yoga has become very fun for me now. Thanks!
Thick accent but as long as you pay attention to her step by step, you should grasp the concept of each yoga posture. Attendance is mandatory she makes you log. Final is open notes open book and there is a paper due but she grades easy. Just show up to class and put in effort and you will do fine.
She's a bit hard to understand sometimes with her accent, but overall a great professor. If you just show up for class, put some effort in, you'll do fine. You don't need the book at all, I borrowed it from the library to write my paper & to use on the final, which was open book open note. The study guide she provides, is exactly like the final.
I took her yoga class and it was a great stress reliever. Just try to remember the poses and be on time. Other than that the book isn't used until the final and she is a good teacher.
I love her! She's very sweet and knows everyone's name. She is very fair in her grading procedures; you basically have to be focused on not attending class to fail. She seems to love her job. I really enjoyed this class.
She has a bit of an accent, but otherwise, the class was pretty easy and chill. Just attend the classes, which isn't hard to do, and follow along. The final was fairly easy, if you just pay attention to the moves.
She's an ok yoga teacher. Be warned though, she has a very thick Japanese accent and talks quietly, so it's really easy to miss important things she says. Always show up to class, memorize sun salutation, and be sure to buy the book otherwise you're screwed for the final.
This class just wasn't fun. I couldn't understand ANYTHING she said because she's a low-talker with a THICK Japanese accent naming off terms I didn't know. She also didn't demonstrate any poses before having the class jump right in. I felt like half the time we were all just looking at each other trying to figure out what we were suppose to do.
I took Pilates to get a good workout unfortunately you don't get one til you learn all the moves which is near the end. There is no midterm but the final is a take home tests and she chooses 5 moves. Overall, it was a fun class.
Too much workload for our written assignment!
Very helpful in Pilates. She helps you if you are off with your poses and was VERY helpful if someone had an injury.
Easy class as long as you attend. Be respectful; no phones out, voices down. Class is enjoyable if you take yoga semi-seriously. She's understanding of physical limitations if you tell her. 2 skills tests, 1 written final, 1 essay, 1 written HW assignment. You need the book for final, essay, and HW but you can find bootleg PDFs online.
I enjoy yoga, but I felt like this class was too much work. I didn't learn the true meaning of yoga in her class. Every day she just had us do the moves, but then expected us to write an essay about the spiritual journey through each specific limb, which she never once talked about. It's not like all of my other classes don't give essays.
Expects participation
I have taken yoga from people who have studied it from gurus and she definitely has not. Some of the moves she has you do are wrong or modified and then she docs you points if you do it right. I took this class for fun and to lower my stress level and she increased it.
The worst yoga class ever. I have no idea what she says in class because of her accent. She didnt lecture anything about the philosophy of yoga, but then assigned a whole term paper for it. It's not hard, it's just confusing and so much work for just a PE class. choose something else!
She doesn't teach any sort of background to yoga, but expects you to be quite knowledge for the final exam/paper. I was really unimpressed with her teaching style because I wasn't able to get even the slightest meaning of what yoga is. Don't take this professor if you're looking for an easy A.
Treats a 1 unit class as if it were a 3 unit class. She does the moves and has you follow them. She does not go over any of the readings in class. Grades hard on the midterms. Requires an essay on readings. The atmosphere of her class is stressful and discouraging.
Do not take her class!! She is a tough grader when it comes to the midterms. I worked/studied hard for midterms, showed up to every class, and still got a bad grade.
She is very kind and really wants to see her students succeed in her class. I have her for Pilates 30 and before this class I did not know what Pilates was. She really takes the time to help every student perfect their form. Always open for questions. She also has a great sense of humor if you talk and joke with her!
She knows what to do but is very tough graded and if you walk in one minute late you are marked absent even though its a 7:30 AM class! she needs to relax
Professor is a great teacher. she really cares about her students and wants them succeed. I never knew what Pilates was before going to her class. the moves helped my back physically. if you have questions, just ask! she is caring! make sure you attend her classes and study for midterms from the book. modified movements are fine. i learned a lot!
She's super sweet and really cares about you. She's also very accomadating if you can't do a certain movement. I recommend her for pilates!
She is super sweet and I loved her pilates course! Some of the movements were difficult but she says to do what you can or do a modified version of the movement. She is very accommodating and always willing to help! You write what you learned after class on your journal sheet, which is graded, so attendance is mandatory. I would take her again!!
Definitely recommend taking pilates with junko if you are trying to satisfy the pe requirement. She is such a sweet lady! Attendance is mandatory if you dont want to lose points, but she also lets you make up missed classes. An easy A as long as you participate and attend class!
She is very soft-spoken and has a thick accent, but as long as you sit near the front you should be fine. She isn't as bad as everyone says, she is there to guide and help with postures if you ask. She gives a work sheet, one paper, and a take-home final. You have a daily journal for each class where you just write 2-3 sentences on that day.
Attendance is mandatory for participation pts (40). 2 physical tests (15 pts each). And one take home final (30 pts) which u use the textbook. Easy class as long as u participate. She speaks quite soft so u may not hear her as well as she teaches. She's doesnt expect u to be perfect as long as u make u memorize and make the movements flow.
I recommend sitting at the very front of her class. It gets hard to follow along when you're down on the mat and can't see her. She has a little bit of an accent, so it'll be a little hard to understand her. You only have 2 exams, and they're pretty easy to do. One take home final and paper that requires the textbook.
Kind of treats this 1 unit as a 3 unit class. not an easy A class. She is not very good at utilizing Canvas so it can be confusing. You will have to send in multiple video skill tests and she is a tough grader. AND THERE IS AN ACTUAL FINAL EXAM
I took her class in-person and if you're looking for an easy A for the P.E. credit, you won't get that with her. She graded way too hard on her midterms, nitpicks on every one your moves, and has no hesitation calling you out in front of everyone (which can be very embarrassing).
took her online during covid, she tells you what to do at the beginning of the sem, which is a journal sheet and you do that every week. has 2 skill tests where you have to submit a video of the exercises she assigns you. you can tell using canvas is difficult for her, but she's trying her hardest and will respond to you quickly if u need help
Her instructions are beyond unclear and it is not even a matter of knowing how to use Canvas. Weekly journal instructions were unclear in the beginning and emails were even more confusing. Awful online communication and organization.
She was not ready for transition to online. Her class is very unorganized and you're graded on few things so if you miss ANY assignment your grade is jeopardized.
Surprisingly a lot of assignments for a 1 unit class. She's unclear and disorganized which caused a lot of confusion. Get prepared to film yourself 2x performing 3 min yoga routines where she will give you an F and critique your every move. I was told I could have done modifications to improve, but we didn't go over those so what does she expect?
The class itself wasnt difficult, but the professor was disorganized and not clear with her grading criteria. The material on Canvas was not easy to follow. There are two skills test (3 min video doing yoga routine), written assignment (follow the rubric!), journal sheet, and final exam (easy). The good thing was she responded quickly to emails.
Although I got a high grade for this class, I was very confused for the most part. Sometimes shes unclear on her instructions. Also, she never did a live lecture, so you must pace yourself through the powerpoints she posted. You turned in weekly journal entries, filmed two skill test videos and open book final.
Ok so the class itself isn't TOO hard but she does make you work for it. The postures are basically self taught if you take the class online and she grades a little hard. We did have a paper and a final exam even though this is a 1 unit class. She gives extra credit. Other than that, be prepared to learn the postures on your own and her grading.
I took Pilates for a PE class and it was more work than some of my other classes. Not only are the modules confusing, she is also completely unclear with what she wants from you and is sort of snappy when you ask for help. I wish I would have signed up for literally any other class.
she made the class harder than it should be and at some point, she stopped responding to my emails. I would email about my grade and she never responded. The whole semester I had a partner who was very irresponsible. She always graded things late and wasn't organized nor specific enough. It was an easy class but she made it one of the most annoyin
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH PROFESSOR LINAFELTER!!! She is a picky grader, unclear, hard to communicate with//understand, and has no compassion or empathy. This professor does not care about her students and it shows.
I didn't think a PE class would be the most difficult out of all my science based classes. I've sent her emails for help and other things and she would not get back to me. She also started grading me very harshly even though I wasn't doing well in her class. She also would nitpick everything even though I did everything to the best of my abilities.
I completed this class with every thing turned in and completed on time. But the end of the semester for a skills test she gave me a 0/30 even though i did everything she asked for correctly. She claimed I cheated because I cut a 15 minute long video that would not fit into Canvas studio, which is where she demands videos to be turned into. Unfair.
This one unit class was honestly harder than most of my other classes INCLUDING UPPER DIVISIONS. Its not the actual class but the way she grades is very interesting. I was lucky enough to pass with a B but over the course of this semester she constantly gave me 0 to half credit on assignments I did. She isnt very clear on instructions as well.
I took an in-person class with her. She is a caring and warm-hearted instructor who wants you to truly feel relaxed and healthy. Give her sincere respect and smiles, and you will see she gives them back ten times. Follow and complete her assignments on time. Some immature students just procrastinated and blamed it all on her.
Honestly, this class is horrible to experience in college as my pe requirement. She didn't give you any clear instructions and she expect you to know everything in this class. I HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND YOU TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL!
took this class because i was interested in yoga and junko killed any passion for it that might have been inside of me. most unclear grading ever. its a 1 unit class, but so unbearably unenjoyable. but yoga is supposed to be relaxing, right? but this class had me more stressed than my upper divison classes.
Dont really know why this class was harder than my upper division stem classes. She is unbelievably picky and gave me the lowest grades possible on most of my assignments for things like body alignment. Never take any classes with her, she has no empathy or compassion. Worst class of my life.
Horrible teacher. Horrible organizing on Canvas. Many typos. Blames the students for her technical difficulties.
No hate I believe Junko knows a lot about pilates, however for a one unit course she took this class wayy to seriously. She is irritated if you miss any courses and if you don't attend class it isn't easy to catch up also she dosen't accept late assignments. This course is way to much work for a 1 unit course dont take if u want an A.
Honestly, she is the worst professor ever. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! She gives unreasonable grades, attendance is absolutely mandatory, she is not understanding whatsoever, and you have to purchase textbooks for her class. She is the most extra professor I have ever experienced and she literally just teaches PE.... chill, one unit.
Passionate about this bc of the bad reviews I see that are highly undeserved- she is a great professor and I really loved her. At first, the instructions may be a bit confusing, but if you have common sense you'll do great! She is so sweet, understanding, and caring abt her students- will definitely be taking her again!!:) She made me love yoga!
was unclear in emails and assignments. somedays you didn't even have to go to class because you just reviewed stuff you already knew but she never sent out the agenda for the day so a lot of the time going to class is a waste of time. overall a boring dull class
Please dont ever take her shes awful and unreasonable.
She is the worst, meanest, and rudest instructor ever. I so regret taking her class.
Probably one of the easiest classes I could have taken. (aside from the fact that it's a literal PE class) She is NOT a hard grader, you only have to attend the mandatory classes which are usually once a month or twice a month and that's it. She's a sweet professor she just has an RBF.
I was really looking forward to taking pilates this semester but I can go ahead and kiss that idea goodbye. Let me start off by saying the syllabus is 21 pages long! You will be expected to turn in videos and if you don't do it perfectly you will get zero credit. She is strict and she doesn't care about any struggles you may have. Do not take her!
Prof is very strict but not mean. she is very helpful with people who actually care to take to class gives good advice if you are having knee or back issues. If you are here for an "easy A" but don't really even care about the class itself it will be hard. Had two in-person exams which are memorizing yoga positions and a 2 page final. super easy.
Professor Linafelter is patient and passionate about Pilates. She wants to see you try and put effort into her class. Videos of performing the movements are due about once a month, but she cancels class the day videos are due. There is a skills test at the end of the semester and you have to study the names and their movements but she helps you
Very kind professor and respects corrections when she makes a mistake. There are 2 in-person skills tests (the whole class is not watching you). There is 1 written reflection (no right or wrong answers). In each class you write a journal sheet that counts as participation. There are 2 online video recordings where you preform the yoga poses.
I showed up to every class, did all but one of the assignments on time, and showed up to the in-person yoga tests having practiced. She takes off 75% for an assignment being 2 days late (3 days is a 0) and grades on sequence, alignment, balance, and flow for in-person tests (deducts points) Why is my worst grade in a 1-unit BEGINNERS YOGA CLASS????
The professor is actually really nice and caring in class and will give you feedback on things to work on. She's also very accommodating if you have back or knee problems which helped me a lot in this class. I will say that she is a little unclear at times with online assignments and you also can't miss a lot of classes so showing up matters.
A really tough grader, especially for a beginner class. The deduction for late assignments is so heavy that it's basically not worth it to do them. Assignments have to be formatted a certain way or else you get a zero. Personality-wise, she's a nice lady, but this class is not a good idea unless you have prior yoga experience.
if you prefer to fail classes, i would absolutely recommend her. she's not fair with grading at all, and she even ignored me with this uninterested, cold glare while i was trying to talk about fixing my grade. i know a lot of students which share these sentiments with me. she just makes pilates seem like rocket science... >:C
She is not lenient with grading at all, she docks off points heavily. She also does not care about the technical issues we run into. I've talked to other classmates who have been experiencing the same problem with her. This is not an easy A class, it's actually dropping my grades even though I'm putting in the effort and time. :/
She decuts points heavily. I practiced a routine for something so many times but I got confused during a skills test because I started on the right-hand side instead of the left I messed up and she deducted a lot of points. What's worse is I really did try. Its like practicing for something trying your best and it still not being enough.
I wouldn't even say she's a strict grader anymore, she's just being unreasonable. She takes off A LOT of points for the littlest mistakes. I put in so much effort into the class and it's useless. I also tried talking to her multiple times but she doesn't seem to care at all. I communicate fine with all my other teachers so idk what's wrong.
She makes the class seem so much harder for no reason. She takes points off on homework for random things, and grades based on how well you do the movements instead of the effort you put in. I didn't expect a PE class to be my lowest grade this semester.
The teacher was always rude to me, I don't understand why. She also graded my assignments poorly, and when I tried talking to her about it, she just ignored me and waved me off. She never gave any good feedback, and she made this class miserable for me.
If you understand her accent and not sit in the back of the room, she's a good teacher. She lectured us right from our textbook so it was easy to remember the material. Most of the grade was on attending/participating, the final exercises, and the final exam. She has students do at-home videos so it's difficult if you're uncomfortable at home.
I have never had so much difficulty with a professor in my entire college career. Not only are her instructions in class very unclear, but her online instructions are as well. She makes submitting things online way more complicated and difficult than it needs to be, and is very disrespectful if you try to ask for clarification.
Unclear directions on every assignment. Completing/submitting assignments was a nightmare. Missing one class will cost you. Had an A the entire class until the written final when she failed to clarify that the Make-up Final assignment is actually a Late Final and comes with a 50 percent deduction. No compassion, lacks communication, and is rude.
