Horrible class did not make sense dont take her, recommend nissani or rosales as a lecture instuctor
I'm still shaking my head at what an awful teacher Suzuki is. She does NOTHING to help her students. She rambles for about 45 minutes at the beginning of the lab and then lets you loose. If you have questions after that she basically tells you to ask someone else. If you take her class you better already know everything about Biology...
helpful NO!! she gives worsheets and doesnt go over them until the meeing b4 the next class and only 2 or 3 things from the worsheeets end up on the test.if u r confused its best to look in your book because she is no help in explaining anything and will give u the run around.study guides ha no she feels u should know how to study.
I wouldn't recommend taking her class. Her test are absolutely ridiculous. They are very hard. She has a series of answers for you to choose from for the scantron. For Ex. "These possible answers are for #6-12... A,B,C,D,E,AB,AC,AD,AE,BC,BD,BE,CE..." Even if you narrow down the answers you still have alot to deal with. Take Dr. Nisani instead.
She may not be the best teacher but she wasn't really that bad. Lectures were pretty straightforward, and the tests were ok just really study the notes she puts up. Unlike a lot of teachers she does give you extra credit on the tests, and you're exempt from the final if you have enough points after the last test.
Easy class, useless teacher.
Junko?s a really sweet professor. If you?re a person that might miss class a lot take her! She doesn?t drop people for missing class, but if you have great attendance she raises your grade at the end of semester. Her class is really easy and so are her exams (even if you barely study).
straight forward, gives you notes, offers a lot of extra credit, highly recommend
Highly recommended. She is very clear on what she wants you to study. Whatever she says in lecture will be on the test. If you pay attention to what she says and take good notes the tests will be easy, plus she gives so many opportunities for extra credit. She also matches what she teaches to what your lab teacher is teaching.
Suzuki was a pretty great teacher. Her test were fairly easy and she sometimes lets you use a hand written cheat sheet. She also give a lot of easy extra credit.
Those who failed to prepare says that Suzuki is a poor teacher but that isn't true. She explains the section that we are covering well. and she does everything possible to help you pass.Suzuki gives alot of extra credit and attendance isn't mandatory, but if you do not attend her class and are on the borderline by a point or so you will not get it.
EXCELLENT teacher. She will NOT spoon feed. She out lines the chapters and gives you what you need to know for exams. If she doesnt cover it-it's not on the test! But you need to STUDY! I scored over 100 on each of first 4 test, was exempt from the last and I do not care for science. Teaches ahead of labs. Lots of extra credit. Take notes & STUDY.
Take notes (she gives you plenty of time to copy them) study those notes, and the power points from the website listed on her syllabus. Read each chapter in the book once and you will succeed in this class. tests are easy, multiple choice, she will spot you out if you are not paying attention in class, she told somebody to leave cause he sleeped!
sweet lady. knows her stuff. very helpful and friendly.
Mrs. suzuki is a great teacher, I wish I could take any other class with her. She is very helpful, all her tests are based on her notes and powerpoints, she will explain whatever you did'nt understand. She gives extra credit on every test and lets you email her at any time. I highly recommend her just study hard.
Not the most friendliest teacher on campus :( Rude and dry personality. Gives moderate extra credit, but tests are SUPER disorganized and confusing! I personally did not like her teaching method. Again, just disorganized and confusing in general!
Very clear in her instruction and puts forth a lot of effort in her lectures. Gives a reasonable amount of extra credit. Very organized. The exams require a lot of studying, but she tells you exactly how to prepare. As long as you put forth the effort, you'll find her class to be a breeze. Also, she's one of the nicest professors I've ever had.
She was an okay prof. nothing really special, chill lady. Usualy had extra credit on the tests.
Loved tis class, she keeps things as simple as she can. The test focus more on the notes. Yet, if you are confused about something the book always covers what she talks about. When studying focus on the notes! Thus, don't miss class, or you will miss the notes.
Found Professor Suzuki very knowledgable. Attendance is necessary (as it SHOULD be for every class) and she is very clear. We got to throw out one exam. If we did well on the first three we could skip the last one.
Easy Class. As long as you show up and study your notes. Test are straight from her notes. Also provides plenty of extra credit. No final or midterm, 5 test, with the lowest grade dropped.
If you have the opportunity, take someone else's class, seriously. She is a horrible teacher, her dry personality and attitude are horrendous. Tests are extremely unorganized and confusing. No homework, and no study guide. You will do everything alone and she will not help if she decides she doesn't like you. Do yourself a favor and dont take her!
had her for a sub shes amazing sweet little lady whose very intelligent and clear on whats expected. shes very backed off during the lab unless you have questions which is good she doesn't interrupt and prior to the lab she explains everything you have to do extremely well. dont listen to the others shes a great teacher I wish she were my prof.
About the confusing tests: What they really are is answering two or more marks for one question, and use the options of the possible answers for more than one question. Besides the rest the questions are very clearly worded, u just need to study, FROM THE NOTES all the questions come from. It would help to read the summary of the book's chapter.
Beware! If you are extremely good in biology & you can do it on your own without help then I recommend her.If not DO NOT take her. She has her favorites & will be nice and helpful to them, but if she doesn't like you she won't really help, she'll put you on blast, or be unfair to you.
she is not willing to help, she is rude, don't see the point in her being there; classmates help you more than she does. she's too much to handle.
Suzuki is a great teacher. I had her for lab, be prepared to do a lot of work on your own, because after all this is college and the book walks you through everything. She was always very friendly and helpful to me, all you have to do is ask. I have seen way worse here at AVC, so if you can't handle her, you are not going to make it at AVC.
I really wished I would've taken another teacher, this ratemyprofessor is way off on how she really is. Believe us who say she is hard and makes you do your own stuff. Please if you want to pass Bio101 om your first try, take another teacher because this woman isn't a good teacher!
DO NOT TAKE, unless you are good at Biology. Her tests are confusing, on the second test (which more than half the class failed) she was discouraging and said most of you will drop by the end of the semester. Although towards the end of the semester, she started providing helpful study guides, a little too late for that.
Very strict. Helpful at some times. Hard to understand. Tests are unexpected since she gives no study guide and hardly any information of what will be on test. She drops your lowest test score.
Ms. Suzuki is a nice lady, she can be strict, but only for the benefit of her students. Her exams are base on her notes!(:
I found this a tough class for an introductory course. Having said that if you attend class and take notes you should be fine. You do have to do a bit of guesswork on her exams as to where her questions are going. While attendance is not mandatory, it would be very difficult to pass her class if you missed any. At least get notes from someone else.
Suzuki has a very elementary school way of discipline. If you have to use the bathroom, you're required to write your name on the board and she'll dock you 10 points. She will stop the lecture to make sure that you do. She really enjoys calling people out. She even yelled at a guy for having his syllabus on the desk. Real power hungry.
Suzuki was fair and I really can't complain too much. Some of her tests were a bit confusing (I think it's due to the wording and English being a second language for her). Her lectures and everything is very structured.
Worst teacher I've had since being at AVC. She is hard to understand, her tests are confusing, and she has a dry personalitie. Class gets hard to follow because of the language barrier and she just makes it plain boring. If you aren't already great at biology,I would highly suggest taking another professor. Learned more in my bio lab than from her
She is a straight forward Biology teacher. She'll teach you what you need to know for her test and for lab, no surprises no loopholes. You need to study for the test, but as long as you pay attention in class, you should be okay.
This instructor is the clearest lecturer at avc. She has an accent but you'll adjust and understand her. The lectures are straight forward and contain all needed info for tests. I love bio and I loved her class. No hw, just take notes, read them, and show up for the tests. Easy A but you'll also learn a lot.
Her notes are pretty straight forward and clear, although she still has trouble with the language barrier so her tests get a little confusing. The tests are multiple choice but keep in mind that they are also multiple ANSWER, so make sure you study! She also stops here and there during lecture to ask if anyone is unclear. Not too bad.
Attend class, pay attention, write down the notes, and memorizeunderstand the material. Her class does not offer homework, so the grading is strictly based on tests. So you gotta know your stuff if you ever wish to pass. Also, no sleeping or using your phone. "MINUS 10!" Don't get me wrong, she's a cool teacher, but she's strict.
she doesn't care if you pass or not. You can't understand her through her accent.
Suzuki is real cut and dry. She provides notes for you to take down, and then goes over them in lecture. She doesn't like you to get up and leave during class, makes you write your name on the board if you do. Tests are tough because she wants you to "understand the material, not memorize it." Show up, listen, and study and you may pass.
Many students think they can just enroll in a bio class and expect to get a good grade without putting much effort to pass it. Suzuki will test your intelligence and your capacity to learn the material. She will discipline you and wants you to understand what you learn. if you possess none of the intelligence and discipline this class is not 4 u.
Do not take her, unless you are good at biology. We take 5 test and she drops one of them. Her class is base all on the test; technically, your grade depends passing all the test. She's a good teacher, but she teaches university level, very smart and knows what she do.
Her class is for serious students only. Use common sense and don't disrupt class or have your phone out. Readoutline the chapter BEFORE, and the lecture will enhanceexplain. Her tests are formatted confusingly (side by side Qs AND As rather than up and down) but the questions themselves are clear. There was a lot of extra credit too.
PROF SUZUKI IS SUCH A GREAT LITTLE LADY. THERE ARE 5 EXAMS ALL WORTH 100 POINTS, NO HW IS ASSIGNED ALL I CAN SAY IS STUDY, STUDY,STUDY!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't recommend unless your good at understanding biology and when i say good i mean love it and breath it. She is super strict, but teaches well, just a tough grader, wasn't my best experience but got through it, just study study study.
No homework, lectures are clear if you pay attention take notes, study and you will be fine. She really doesn't like people who talk text or sleep, she will kick you out. Just be quiet take notes.
Be on time. Must read and understand assigned chapters. Pass the four test and you pass the class. No homework.
If you are organized, study, and have good work ethic, this class shouldn't be difficult. Grade consists of 4 exams; take 5, drops lowest. No study guides. Reviews info, gives workshts to help. Gives enough time to copy notes. Study from notes! Use txtbook to further understand notes. Often extra credit questions on exams and extra cred. quizzes.
5 tests, class filled with her notes and lecture but does not give study guide for her tests. If you don't understand and connect the book to her notes the test can be hard. She does know the information very well, but her tests are pretty hard.
Take this from A student that doesn't text in class and loves Biology: DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. Her class is the worst, I dropped her course like a hot rock. Do yourself a favor, take someone else.
Shen is a great Instructor but be prepared to study. I do not recommend her if your study habits are poor or you like to procrastinate. Her tests are a bit difficult but again if you put your heart into studying you will be fine. She is not for the lazy easy A type of students. Id take her again :)
Professor Suzuki is very unprofessional and the worst teacher I have had at the college. She was always rude to me to the point that my fellow students noticed it and told me. She was rude and condescending to me for no reason. She was always on me no matter how hard I tried. I have had tough teachers but NEVER rude and out right hostile to me.
Junko is a great teacher. I don't understand all the negative reviews. She's a tough cookie, but I think she just cares about her field of study. If you read the material and do your best you can get an A or B. What she doesn't like is people on their cell phones or ignoring her, but how would you like it? I can't wait to take her for microbiology!
Must show up to class & cannot be late. Grade is based on tests & few homework assignments. Show up to class, take notes, & listen to lectures. Do not use your phone or distract class in any way or she will kick you out. Study for the tests or you will not pass. After every test she lets you come in to go over scantron & make sure it is correct.
She's a strict teacher and attendance is the ultimate key! Show up to every lecture and take notes on EVERYTHING she has up because that's what will be on the test. Don't memorize the charts she put's up, try to learn them. Other than that you'll be fine. Just study your notes and charts!
This class was the worst experience i've had at this school. Prof. Suzuki is rude and does not care if you are learning or not. she is very strict, she doesn't ever smile. Good luck if you have questions because she'll just think you don't understand because you weren't listening, and then forget your question and move on. 0/10 would never recomend
If you do not understand what is being taught you will not pass the class, She is very strict on attendance and tardiness. The in class notes may be confusing because she jumps from chapter to chapter.
She makes you work for it and you HAVE to study but she gives you everything you need to pass and gets you well prepared for lab. Her lesson plan mostly goes along with the lab so you dont have to be studying for separate things which is really nice. Not an easy class but definitely doable.
This professor is absolutely terrible, she lectures for the entire class. And you can barley understand her. She require the textbook. she gives little to none homework, Gives 50 question exams about 6 times a semester. Gives no feedback isn't understanding. And attendance is mandatory
Very professional, very strict
Horrible teacher
STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! She is very serious and kinda boring. She isn't that bad of a teacher but expect no hw, 5 exams but drops lowest, attendance is vital, and she goes pretty fast (at least to me).
She is nice and will answer your questions. Is strict with attendance. Don't be late she will leave you outside. Unless your sick or pregnant she won't let you use the restroom, she says it herself. Her tests are hard to get an A unless you study. She will answer questions though and even asks you if you have questions.
Bad teacher
Suzuki is tough but at the beginning of the semester she let's you know what she expects of you! I haven't taken a bio class in 7 years and was lost at first. Finding your own way of studying is a MUST! NO homework. 5 tests, some extra credit! Overall, pay attention, study and read your lab manual. It helps a lot!
I took Suzuki for intersession & she not bad. Shes actually a good teacher, shell answer all of your questions. Shes strict but caring! She didnt provide study guides for the practicals which made it harder for me to study. Over all I think I wouldve passed with an A or B if I wouldve studied more. STUDY!!!& take the daily quizzes seriously.
She lectures as if you already know what she is talking about and moves very fast through each chapter. If you wanna waste your money and fail, a class I would recommend hers.
I was just about to write a review of the person in my class was the comment before me and they stated a very important fact, girlie be kind of racist though and very rude favoring other people which I dont like whatsoever people like her shouldnt teach anymore.
Instructor, as stated in previous reviews, questions you as If you have existing knowledge on the subject. Very rude. It was an intro class to microbiology lab. She doesnt give lectures and often says shes not there to teach. Dismisses class early because she doesnt wanna be there.
She doesnt care about your situational excuses (if important). Shes extremely strict and professional. She grades very very tough and makes attendance extremely mandatory. She will drop you in a heart beat. If you want to fail biology I highly recommend her.
This class felt very out of touch and rushed. She did not spend much time actually teaching, i wouldnt recommend her class.
BEWARE you will basically be teaching yourself this entire class. Very few times will she actually stop and explain things to you. I took her just before COVID and she put a paper on the projector screen, you'd take your notes and THATS IT. she grades REALLY harsh and isn't the best at explaining either. I WOULD AVOID TAKING HER AT ALL COSTS.
I lost 5 points for being 2 minutes late to class . She also doesn't teach . don't take her class ever .
I am a student that uses the Office For Students With Disabilities. When presenting her with my paperwork she told me that "she could not treat me differently than the other students" which is exactly what she was legally obligated to do. Had a hard time with communication and her having any understanding of what I needed help with.
Too her fo micro bio. Shes super strict on attendance. She doesnt teach well, ur in your own. Test are pretty easy just study. I dont like her but if your stuck with her just study youll be fine
Took this class online and it wasn't bad! Do what you are supposed to do, attend class, and ask questions. She responds to emails within minutes, daily quizzes/exams were all open book, and she does teach at a fast pace so be prepared to teach yourself sometimes. Yes, she's strict and serious but not as much as before when I had her for BIO101.
I had no personal issue with her; however, she is never clear on her assignments. She will give you the bare minimum information about an assignment and dock points for not meeting her expectations. The whole semester I was guessing what she wanted us to turn in. Attendance in mandatory & her lectures can be a bit fast.
I'm am to take a full load on and am also disabled, having assistance through the disability office on campus. Due to this I often work slower and she was well aware of this. Instead of assisting, would insist I come in the next day despite being told that was not an option. Was often berated and yelled at for not understanding the content. Unhappy
She was so bad, I wanted to give her a zero. But that's no possible. So, I give her a 1.
She has no patience & is very rude. Doesn't demonstrate how to perform labs & expects you to just know how to do it with the information written on the board. Snatches things from students for doing something wrong throws it down in disgust. If you don't want to teach the students with kindness, why become a professor? Don't belittle your students.
Suzuki wasn't a great lab instructor. Very vague in how she explains her lectures. She was lab my instructor and I had a different professor for lecture. I ended up getting a B because I scored horribly on the unknown investigation. Provided no feedback as to why I received the grade that I did. Just thankful I passed the class.
Professor Suzuki is a very straightforward professor, very strict on tardies and attendance may often come off as rude but is just being straightforward. Tests come straight from her lecture power points, expect you to know what to do in the lab so read your manual before class and you should be fine helps only if you ask for help.
Professor Junko is amazing!!!! I'm going to miss this class and wouldn't want to take this class with any other professor. I enjoyed all the labs and lectures. The class is very interesting but definitely requires work. However, if you put in the work the class is manageable and passable.
Professional and extremely strict. Follow the rules! Be punctual! This is a good time to evaluate your own work ethic as it would apply to the real world. May come off strong, but cares for students and tells you not to take things personal. She calls you out so you learn the wrong ways in a potentially dangerous lab setting. Quirky. Fun lab!!!
She yells student most of the time, she does not have patience, so strict. She does not give study guides. Difficult exams.
Strict when it comes to lab, but this helps build good foundation in lab skills. No study guides. Tests are based on slides (only used the book once), and are straightforward just study the material and pay attention to lecture. Attendance is an absolute must. Overall, strict but truly wants the best for you and is willing to answer any questions.
Well-organized. Gives clear instructions and clear expectations. She is willing to help in any way to make sure you learn the material. Wish she was teaching other bio classes that I have to take too!
Coming to this class, the professor was very invested and willing to help the students. She paved the way for the students in understanding what was to be expected and what to study. The lab wasn't very hard. If you put in the effort and study hard, there is a chance to get a good grade. Like everything in life, work hard and it will pay off.
Why is she rated so poorly? Professor Suzuki is one of the best professors I have had. She is kind and truly wants her students to learn and apply what she teaches. She aims for every student to retain the information. She is an actually great teacher, not just a professor that lectures. Success depends on your studying habits and listening.
RUN! Not clear on lab assignments/lab tests, For exams, you need the book/lecture slides and many nights of google! What she says to study isn't on the test and what she says won't be on the test is on the test. Just know EVERYTHING! if you take her, ask tons of questions even if she embarrasses you in front of the class.
this class is not for those who don't put in the effort. there are no study guides however the exams are based on the slides given in class. i highly recommend getting the textbook to get a more in depth explanation because some exam answers are based of that. she is strict in lab for safety reasons and is always accessible outside of classes GL!!
I was worried taking her class, but she's actually nice, & will help those willing to learn. Gives clear instructions on what she expects, yes she is firm in lab when it comes to everyone safety, read the manual & highlight key points that can be on quizzes. Unknown exam organize your notes, they're going to help you. It was a fun lab for me!
