If you get the chance to take Justin, DO IT!!! He is so helpful out of class and made calculus very easy. I had no problems with this class. I visited his office every week to ask questions and clarify information. Study for tests and you are guaranteed a good grade. He is not misleading and is very straightforward on test requirements. TAKE HIM.
Dr. Cantu is one of the sweetest and most genuine professors I've ever met, he's really smart and really likes what he's teaching. He sometimes gets lost in his lectures and the things he teaches are sometimes hard to understand, but it doesn't take long to figure out how to understand how he teaches. Tests aren't bad, Final replaces lowest test.
I love Dr. Cantu! He's very sweet and his teaching method is straightforward. He takes time before every class to tell a story about his weekend or ask the class some questions to get to know us. A great, caring profesor.
Favorite/Best math teacher by far. I took AB and BC calculus in highschool and got 5's on both of the AP Tests. Cantu was able to teach the topics in a certain way that made me get a better understanding of a topic I already knew pretty well. He is always willing to help in/outside of class. He also starts every class with something funny/silly.
He is an amazing professor! He likes to do a little poll, two truths and a lie, or story time before the lecture and you get to know a bit more about him that way. His lectures are straight forward and he wants to help you understand.
100% take this class. Explains the material well. Puts notes online.
If you get the chance, TAKE HIM!!!! He is such an amazing guy and will get out of his way to help you no matter what. He is great at explaining calculus and he always makes his lectures interesting and funny. He also posts the notes online if you miss class which is super helpful. Definitely one of the best profs out there!
He is amazing. I've taken multiple calculus classes and never have I ever understood it so clearly.
Cantu is an amazing professor. He explains Calculus really well and is understanding. He also seems like a genuine and nice guy too.
Dr. Cantu is great. He really makes an effort to engage with the students: making jokes, telling stories. Awkward, but in the best way. The course is very straightforward and especially easy if you've previously taken calculus. He always offers extra help to those who ask. If you're behind, it's really your own fault. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Cantu is an incredible guy and professor. Attendance is not mandatory but the lectures are so good you will want to come. He's really funny and has a great time teaching his students. His class made me feel like an expert in calc compared to my friends who didn't take him. Put in the work and his lectures will enable you to succeed in his class
Dr. Cantu is a great professor and an even better person. He goes above and beyond to ensure that you understand the material. He gets to know you on a first name basis, which is amazing considering the amount of students he teaches. Even though it was his first year, I believe Dr. Cantu did a phenomenal job, and I wish him all the best.
Dr. Cantu is THE BEST! I took AP Calc in High School, but my teacher was very bad and I didn't learn anything, so basically this was my first time learning Calculus and Dr. Cantu explained it in a way that was easy to understand. He is also available for office hours and before class starts if you have questions. Final replaces lowest exam TAKE HIM
Professor Cantu is probably one of the best math professors I have had. This was his first year teaching the course, but he was always well-prepared and able to explain any questions thrown his way. His office hours are often and very helpful as he shows that he wants his students to be successful.
Dr. Cantu is an incredibly talented calculus professor. He honestly wants to get to know his students and is always accessible during his office hours. He is very passionate about his subject and it shows in his lectures. Any question you can think of, he will answer for you. He makes the class not only easy, but enjoyable for everyone involved.
Dr. Cantu was a very chill dude. Had him his first semester so he was still smoothing out the kinks of his teaching style but overall pretty good. He didn't require attendance which was nice for kids that had taken calc before and didn't need to come to every lecture. Textbook is an okay supplement but I never used it much.
If you get the chance to take justin's class, DO IT. He's awesome!
Dr. Cantu is the BEST prof I've had. He made calculus 3 easy to understand. He is funny and you can tell he cares about the well being of his students. He makes his own lecture notes that you fill out in class and they are easy to follow. He is very understanding and posts quizzes and notes online if you miss class. Take him if you can!!
Cantu's down to earth, kind, & maybe even a bit dorky in the best way. Took him for 148 after taking calc BC in high school & it was easier than BC. Graded worksheets every week & quizzes that are basically a regurgitation of them. Gives exam reviews, no homework, & final replaces lowest exam grade. Not a blow off, but def an A you can count on.
Calculus was awful for me in high school, but I had the chance to take him for both math 151 and 251 and he was awesome! Calculus is a tough subject but Dr. Cantu made his lectures entertaining and easy to follow. Easily my favorite professor ever
Super great prof. Class is mostly weekly quizzes (group or individual) and 4 tests. Super nice prof and great at explaining calculus to people new or have difficulty with math. As long as you don't slack off and do your work, you'll be fine in the class. Always accessible for help. Definitely take him if you want a manageable year and a fun prof.
THIS MAN! He's amazing at teaching calculus 3, he made a subject some many struggle with child's play. I wouldn't say attendance is mandatory but you get more out of going to class than just looking at the notes he posts online. He really cares about his students, exams are so easy, quizzes are take home quizzes do I need to say anything else?
I highly recommend taking Cantu. He is a great guy and likes to have fun in his lectures. His lectures are very helpful, and you can tell that he really cares about his students.
Dr. Cantu is an outstanding professor. He cares about each of his students in the classroom and outside of the classroom. He engages the students and is a very smart man. The way he instructs makes so much sense. GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO TAKE DR. CANTU. The person who rated him a 4 on here must've been a typo b/c Dr. Cantu deserves a perfect score
Prof Cantu is hands down the best math professor. If you can take him for any course, do it. He knows exactly what he's talking about, his lectures are clear and perfectly explained, and he cares that you learn the material. Practice tests and homework questions are exactly like the tests. He does give the occasional quiz.
This professor is one of the best I have taken at Texas A&M. He teaches really well! He starts every lecture with a cool funny story, and he cares about his students. As an example, he brought cough drops, extra scantrons, pencils, tissues just in case for our exam and relieved nerves by having us scream a countdown to start the exam before COVID19
A good lecturer who is very understanding. He's young and approachable. Webassign homework every week but it's not terrible. Quizzes are often take home (he wants u to do well). The classes aren't required and he posts the notes which is good if you've already taken math or are busy. If you do the practice tests you'll be fine on the actual tests.
Dr. Cantu is the best math professor I have had so far at TAMU, if not the best overall professor. You can tell that he truly cares about his students and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure they are succeeding, both in class and in life. 10/10 would take again!
Lectures were clear and interesting; notes are easy to follow and posted online. Dr. Cantu is incredibly approachable and caring. Tests are fairly written. Webassign homework and past exams are most useful to prepare for exams. Does not make the class more difficult than it needs to be. Highly recommend; take his class if you can.
I took calc BC beforehand so this class was a breeze. Cantu is a really nice guy, it's just that his lectures are kinda boring because his voice makes you want to sleep. Good teacher tho, he knows his stuff.
Greatest Prof I have ever had. Ruined all other profs for me. This is the upper limit for a teacher I think. What a guy. Seriously, take this prof if you ever get the great fortune to. This class was supposed to be somewhat difficult but it was the easiest thing I've ever done.
Take Cantu at any chance you can get!! If you did well in calculus AB/BC then 151 will be a breeze but you'll still enjoy going to class. 251 is new material for me, but Cantu explains concepts incredibly well and you can tell that he is extremely dedicated to his students' learning. Hands down one of the best profs I've ever had at TAMU.
Dr. Cantu is a good teacher. His tests are medium its that he changes allot of stuff and gives questions to throw u off, but its mostly MC and FR is graded in a good way. HW is easy, but for me his lectures were ok, i mostly learned on my own after he posted the completed notes and even got ahead of hw at times.
Love this dude. Awesome professor great class. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. Cantu is awesome. He really cares about his students and is always very well prepared in class. He's very good at explaining the material so if you listen in class and do the homework you will get an A!
Would highly recommend!
Professor Cantu was the best professor I had freshman year. He was so nice, funny and he actually cares about his students, would definitely take this class again.
Prof Cantu is a really great professor. He makes some math concepts that might seem hard and dumbs it down for you. He was always trying to interact with his students. He teaches you what you need to know and makes it fun at the same time. I just have a massive amount of respect for him. Definitely recommend Cantu for new business majors.
Caring, Amazing Lectures, Inspiring, Hilarious, Respected. Fun Polls at the beginning of class. Goes at a slow pace, but it is easier to understand because of that. Tests are pretty easy and if you pay attention, you should do fine on the tests. Tests are mostly multiple choice with some free response. His favorite kind of cookie is chocolate chip.
Literally the BEST professor! Makes things so EASY to understand with the way he teaches! Stuff I struggled to learn in high school he taught in such an easy way it was insane and gives so much time for homework and quizzes which are so easy. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! and he's literally the sweetest person, I will def miss him.
Loved Dr. Cantu! Very good at explaining and answering questions. If you pay attention and take notes you will do well. Homeworks and quizzes really help to understand concepts. He drops your lowest homeworks/quizzes and will replace your lowest test grade with your final exam grade. Very understanding and accommodating! Great professor!
Dr. Cantu is genuinely one of the BEST professors I have ever had. He explains everything very clearly, and is very detailed when teaching. His lectures are engaging and exams are not hard at all! I would 110% take him again.
This man cares so much about his students. He explains everything so well and understands that math is hard for a lot of people.
Professor Cantu is a must have if you take a Math class at TAMU. He is accessible and punctual with responding outside of class hours, he makes lectures so much enjoyable, and he truly understands and cares for his students and explains in truly the best ways. Homework can be time consuming for the class, but Cantu is always willing to assist.
I SUCK at math and Cantu made it doable. He never makes you feel dumb and if you do the homework you'll be fine for tests. All lectures are recorded and exams are Zoom proctored. Print out the notes and follow along & keep a running sheet of all equations you need. Super understanding and by end of semester, drops lowest homework(s) & quiz.
Cantu is simply the GOAT. He goes quite slowly in lectures but he goes over all content and doesnt leave anything out. His exams are similar to homeworks and quizzes and are forgiving. He also keeps the class engaged with fun polls about video games, cookies, how many choos in chugga chootrain, etc. Definitely recommend and would take again.
Dr. Cantu is great! I really struggle with math, but with how he lectured and how much he genuinely cared about us passing, I didn't have much to worry about. He answers every question helpfully and in detail, and his lectures are actually pretty nice to listen to with his jokes and comments. Great prof overall.
One of the best prof I ever took!! He is very, very sweet and grades very generously! His exams are fair and all quizzes were open note! If you struggled in math in high school, I would take him!! He is very knowledgable and teaches you the material very well! He uploads his lectures for you to look over again or if you miss his class one day!
Incredibly understanding and accessible outside of class
Amazing professor! Highly recommend to take him. Very clear on what you need to learn from his lectures. Quick to respond to questions and always gives an answer. Really cares about you. Highly dedicated to his classes. He had a migraine once, went back through the notes after class and emailed us on things messed up to make sure we understood it.
Professor Cantu is truly amazing, he is really great at explaining concepts and making sure students understand them. Lectures are fun and engaging and he has a GroupMe to ask questions outside of class. Lots of hw but REALLY helps to review and its a good check of understanding. Tests are chill and final replaces lowest. HIGHLY recommend Cantu!!
BEST PROF AT TAMU. This man will make you realize what a professor should be. He is nice when you ask questions. Had 3 hour review sessions before exam day. Was accessible 24/7 via group me. Dropped hw grades at the end. Replaced lowest exam grade with the final. I seriously love him. I wish I could have him for all my math classes. He is a gem.
Dr. Cantu is the best professor I have had at TAMU. You print off notes to fill out in class, but he also posts pdfs of his filled out notes for reference if you miss a class. He explains things very well and answers all questions. He has usually one fun poll each class to keep class fun and interesting.
Dr. Cantu is great, and he offers tons of resources to help make sure you understand the material. Go to class, take advantage of the opportunities he gives you, and youll get a good grade!
Explains concepts in good detail and really cares about his students. Weekly homeworks are sometimes challenging but overall not very stressful if accomplished in a timely manner. Exams require studying, but they are similar in difficulty to the homework.
This man has and probably will be the best professor I will ever have. His lectures are really clear and he truly cares about whether his students are learning or not. He is easy to reach after class and he is very very helpful. I enjoyed the semester and he made math fun. He was also close to his students which is a plus.
Professor Cantu is really awesome and caring. His lecture notes are fantastic, so the textbook is not even necessary. He's always willing to answer questions and he truly wants to get to know his students. Calc 3 is a hard class, but he is a really great professor. I would definitely take him!
Good math professor overall. Fair grading, provides you with good practice problems. Organized with his materials and more readily available than most professors.
Dr. Cantu was an amazing professor and I highly reccomend you take him. He made Cal3 fun and easy to understand. He is a great person and you will learn a lot about him as a professor while learning calculus. He is the best!
I fully recommend taking Dr. Cantu if possible! His notes and lectures are so clean and concise that it is incredibly clear what topics you need to know. Practice tests posted are very similar to the actual exams. Overall, a caring guy who is AMAZING at math and effortlessly explains topics.
An incredibly nice professor who makes the content easy enough to understand. Responds to emails well and is more than ready to help after class as well. Since attendance wasn't mandatory, I was debating not showing up to class and just learn off the textbook & HW, but his lectures were just too good and informational to not show up to. 10/10.
Cantu was incredible! Organized, clear, approachable. Available for questions and never made you feel dumb for not understanding, willing to reexplain things and eager to hear our feedback on how to improve. He made class fun with polls and cute stories from his personal life. Really cool guy! Gave detailed hw/quiz solutions & practice exams.
Dr Cantu is a very caring professor, but you will not get to notice that since he is subject to the whim of the course coordinator, it does not make a huge difference. His quizzes are easier than the other profs, but how hard your TA grades will affect that.
It will probably be hard to find another professor as good as Dr. Cantu. I literally can't find a single flaw in his teaching. He is super accessible outside of class, teaches extremely well, and very caring. He also posts his lectures and completed notes. His notes are extremely easy to follow and that's what I use to study.
Professor Cantu is an amazing professor that really cares about his students. He will always answer your questions and he gives clear and understandable explanations. He also does fun polls at the start of class and one time even did a cool magic trick :) I really recommend him to anyone taking math 151!
Dr. Cantu was beyond amazing, caring, and passionate. Despite having him for an 8am, he was always so enthusiastic about his lectures. He is so helpful and will never judge you for any question you may have. I really wish more people would've shown up for class as his lectures were so well structured and informative. Overall, wonderful professor.
If you're taking math 151, try to get into Dr. Cantu's class! He is a super caring professor, will add extra hours to help you. He always posts his completed lecture notes, which are very helpful for exam review. Lastly, his lectures are just impeccable. Highly highly recommend Dr. Cantu for Calc 1!
Dr. Cantu is by far one of the best profs I have had. He cares deeply for his students and has a great personality. Make sure to prepare well for exams and you should do well on common exams. His final isn't terribly hard just make sure to do his review and past reviews made by him. Best way to study is do practice problems and go to week reviews.
Great all around guy. Cares about students and wants us to do well.
Dr. Cantu was an amazing professor, he made lectures funny and engaging. He was very helpful during office hours too. He gave good practice tests to prepare for the test.
Dr. Cantu is an incredible professor! His notes perfectly outline what will be on the exams. As long as you study the notes and complete multiple practice exams before the real exams, you will do well. He tells great stories in class and truly cares about his students. Take his class!!!
Most amazing prof ever. Was very clear in all lectures, quizzes were exactly as he taught. Had zoom recordings for lectures if you were sick. 10/10 would recommend!
3 exams and a final worth 80% of the grade. Previous practice exams made exams very easy. Quizzes/homework/test questions were exactly as shown in his notes. Lecture recordings & completed notes posted on Canvas. Labs were basically coding math & it was pretty easy but annoying to do. Class is especially easy if you took Calculus in high school.
I took Dr. Cantu's class in Fall 2021. This was one of my most favorite classes last semester! He is always super caring and sweet. He is a little awkward, but he makes it really funny. If someone asks a super dumb question he humbly answers the question in a very nice way. I wish I had him for all of my remaining MATH courses at my time here.
One of the best profs I've had at A&M. He provides notes and will answer question before/after class. Chillest dude ever, comes to class sometimes wearing Harry Potter shirts. Exams are like examples from class. Homeworks can be challenging, but he dropped the lowest one. Makes the Writing Requirement simple and let's you choose your topic.
One of the best professors I've had at TAMU. Has very good lectures with a ton of examples that make learning the concepts pretty easy. He also gives you previous years exams which are very helpful for studying. He also gave us 4 points of extra credit on both midterms. It is very easy to get an A in this class.
Dr. Cantu is an amazing professor. He genuinely cares about his students, and when I was having trouble he was always accessible outside of class, even with a newborn.
The "B" in Justin Cantu's name stands for "Bad Professor". In all seriousness though, one of the best math professors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He can break down tough college-level concepts and teach it like it was 3rd grade arithmetic. Awesome professor and all around great dude
Amazing professor! He cares so much about his students and explains very abstract concepts clearly. He is very open to answering questions and helping anyone who is confused.
Cantu was an amazing professor. He offered bonus points on exams and dropped the lowest homework. He cares a lot about his students and answers questions in a thorough and kind manner.
One of the best math professors at A&M. You can tell he cares a lot about his students and provides tons of resources for you to do well. He is the best option for Linear Algebra and always provides quality lectures. Cantu is a very kind, approachable, and knowledgeable guy.
Although I didn't receive the best grade for this course, I really believe that Prof. Cantu is one of the best math professors to take here at A&M. His lectures are really easy to follow and he always shows his steps along the way. He also makes things interesting by doing little stories or funny quizzes at the start of lectures. He also records.
Professor Cantu is the best! He cares about his students and their success and offers plenty of resources to be successful in this course. If you don't understand the content it very easy to approach him before/after class or during office hours to clear up questions and confusions. Take him if you get the chance!
Super helpful and very funny professor. He is very understanding as well with your situations if you have an issue with the homework. His lectures are fast passed but also very helpful. Math lab is tough and you have a quiz every week.
He's a great guy! He talks kind of fast to just pay attention but he is a really funny and engaging professor!
Take him if you can. Top tier lecturer. Speaks clearly and notes are well done and accessible. Cannot over state how kind and understanding he is.
Amazing prof and lecturer, obviously cares about his students and is super easy to follow. Most of this was repeat material for me, but the way he explained topics helped me understand concepts even more, and helped me make connections to concepts I didn't understand completely. Could not recommend more.
Math 151 is a tough course, but Dr. Cantu is an incredible professor. He explains things super well during lecture and is very helpful during office hours. There is weekly homework, quizzes, and group coding labs, but it is doable. Overall great prof to take Math 151 with.
Calculus was by far my weakest subject but Dr. Cantu is very nice and a very effective professor, he is also a gamer which you can call him by his gamertag.
I have taken for Dr. Cantu for MATH 251 and the past semester also for MATH 304. He has been awesome both times explaining things very clearly in lectures and not rushing through things. Despite the fact that he takes time in explaining concepts and solving problems, at the beginning of class we still have time to do a fun poll.
Dr.Cantu is by far one of the best professors for MATH 151 and provides so many resources for students to succeed. I struggled a lot in Calculus AB in high school, but with Dr.Cantu I'll be finishing this semester with an A+. His lecture notes are GOLD and students with other professors would regularly ask me for his notes.
Not a very hard class, especially if you took calculus in high school. The lectures were very helpful, and he's super nice.
Took him for 151 and he was a good professor. I did not take calculus in high school but he made calculus very understandable and I liked his notes and his teaching method. I am retaking this class because I withdrew from it at my CC. He is very funny and always starts off class with a little poll about himself. Labs and quizzes are not that hard.
Dr. Cantu is a lovely and genuine person, he cares a lot about his students and wants the best for them. His lectures are really well put together and do a good job of keeping you engaged. The way to succeed in this class is to do the homework problems, do the week in review problems, the VMLC problems, and the common exams and you'll do well.
Great professor! his lectures are really helpful and as long as you attend lecture and do the hw, the class is very easy.
Amaazingggg. Recorded lectures and provided notes that prepared you well for the exams. There were a decent amount of assignments so it might be tricky to keep up with at some points in the semester but it's very helpful for practice and he drops your lowest assignment/quiz. Also replaces lowest exam with final if its higher which came in clutch.
Cantu is an amazing prof for math and his lectures are extremely helpful. Much of the class was review for me since I took AP Calc in high school, but he was a fantastic lecturer and was there to help us prepare for exams during office hours. The class is mostly weighted on exams, but much of the problems are from lectures.
Although I ended with a B, that was because I was sick during one of the exams and performed terribly. His lectures are fun, he is great at teaching, and tries to involve students as much as possible. I also had a good TA, which may have contributed to my high rating. Some of the TAs grade very hard. I would highly recommend Dr. Cantu.
Lectures are easy to understand and can get boring. Notes are online. Web-Assignment Homework - easy to do if you look through the notes. The Exams are tailored after the notes... so looking and doing the notes questions really helps. The Math Labs are group projects take up most of your time. The labs are surprisingly "hard".
Dr. Cantu is amazing! The class is structured the same regardless of the professor (three exams, final, and weekly homework assignments, labs, and quizzes), but I cannot recommend Dr. Cantu enough. He explained his lectures very thoroughly and was very helpful and made lectures fun. Take Dr. Cantu if you can!
Notes were thorough and easy to understand, and always posted lectures on Canvas so you can watch them later. Lectures were awesome, quizzes weren't too difficult, and exams were common so easy to study for. Do your homework and practice exams and you'll do fine in his class.
I love that he is a super personal to us - he's super funny and really nice. His lectures are clear, and the homework matches the notes exactly. The quizzes and exams are just like the homework too. I love the consistency in everything - it made the entire class super easy. Plus, Dr. Cantu is also just an amazing human being.
10/10 prof
Dr. Cantu is by far my favorite professor I have had a TAMU. Although Math 300 (especially proofs) doesn't really make sense with my head, Cantu has done his absolute best to help me after class and in office hours. He makes an effort to get to know each of his students and is super personable. Best prof for Math 300 by far!
Notes are super well structured, as compared to many other professors who just teach off nothing or do random problems on the board. Extremely caring, exams and homework exactly like notes and examples. I would take him for every class math class if I could, makes a topic that can be confusing like Math 300 a breeze.
TAKE DR. CANTU. Dr. Cantu is probably my favorite professor so far. He is very chill and is a very nice and cool guy. You don't have to come to class but it's always better to go to learn tricks. His format is going through the notes that have practice problems on them and explaining how he's doing them. I took AP Calc so this class was a breeze.
Of all of the professors I've had, Dr.Cantu is by far the best by a landslide and a half. His lectures are amazing, his notes are well organized, and his homework is based on exactly what he teaches. If you EVER see his name for a class you want to take, PLEASE take him no matter what, I promise you will not regret it.
Dr. Cantu explains the content in a way that's not only easy to understand but also in a way that will actually stick. He'd always do fun polls or stories at the beginning of class too and was overall a really cool and funny professor. His notes are very easy to follow and he posted them online after every lecture.
Amazing professor with detailed notes, explains any questions answer with genuine care
Dr. Cantu is a good professor for Math 140. Records lectures but I still recommend going to class because he does offer extra credit. Very organized and very accessible at all times. I recommend him a lot!
You absolutely will love him! His teaching style has a very good flow and he is so funny. He will let students ask questions during lectures and his office hours are amazing. There is homework for each section but usually due a week or two after it is taught. Make sure to have a lot of work on your test trust me it will help you! Take him!!
This is the best professor for Math 140. It isn't easy because no math classes are extremely easy A's but he's very clear in his lectures and wants his students to succeed. He is very easily accessible if you have questions. Overall really funny and caring guy.
Dr. Cantu is an amazing math professor! Highly recommend him. He explains the topic in a very systematic manner and always breaks big questions into smaller questions to help us understand it better. He is the most approachable professor that I have had. He is super easy to talk to, and he encourages his students to ask him questions.
Cantu is a great professor no matter the subject taught. His notes are streamlined and easy to follow along, and attendance was not necessary. He records his lectures and tries to make it fun for everyone. Homework and quizzes were exactly like the exams, and I never had any difficulty in his class. Take him if you can!
This guy was great overall, attendance was not mandatory, and he is just a good guy. He cares about helping his students and is really easy to follow during lectures. He also cracks jokes and sometimes makes in-person class fun. I highly recommend him to all math professors. Content is easy if you get help on tricky subjects.
Dr. Cantu was a very caring professor and wanted his students to succeed. Be ready for lots of assignments, quizzes, and tests. He is very helpful when you are stuck on things during assignments. Study for the tests!!!!! Exam 3 was the hardest, STUDY and go to math in reviews.
This class has a good balance of tests and homework balance, and Dr. Cantu is a great lecturer and cares about his students. There were minimal resources provided so outside of the homework there was minimal practice available however the practice exams helped me prepare well for the actual exams and this class is very doable.
I loved this prof! He cares so much about his students and he keeps lectures fun! He throws random jokes into his lectures and tells stories. He likes helping students during office hours and before and after class. Attendance is necessary because he uses iClicker almost every day.
2-3 homework assignments due each week, a weekly quiz, and a weekly lab. The quizzes could be done in 15 minutes with no calculator. The labs could take a while to complete (it could be difficult to make the code work), but you did it with a group. The professor posted the completed notes. Generally, if you can do the homework, you can do the exam.
This course was relatively easy and JC was an awesome professor. The tests were pretty easy and homework wasn't a lot either. JC would crack random jokes in class which lifted the class morale. He answers everyone's questions and works with you on grades when there is a problem with online platforms. I feel like it would be pretty hard to fail.
Dr. Cantu was such an amazing professor! He was very accessible outside class (office hours), immensely cared for his students in class, and very good at teaching as well! He makes the information that seems difficult a lot easier to tackle. I highly highly recommend taking him if you can :)
He lectures with fill in the blank notes. His lectures are available canvas. He lectures very, very clearly. One of the best lectures that I've attended. I think that his homework and exams were very fair compared to the notes we had in class. I think if I remember he let discussion happen for the last 10 minutes of the exam. Don't quote me though.
One of the friendliest people at TAMU. Its a moderately hard class with common exams and a fair bit of hw, but he will do anything he can to help you understand the material.
world's sweetest most wholesome prof! I failed honors 151 last semester, & this is way easier. HIGHLY recommend Cantu. I've only gone to class a couple times honestly bc I already know everything, but he's sooo sweet and a rlly rlly good prof. He teaches like you know nothing which is AWESOME & clarifying. He posts his lectures and notes as well.
He was AMAZING. Would 100% take him again.
Lowkey probably a top 3 professor I've ever had, ESPECIALLY for math classes. Super clear lectures that are recorded, homework similar to notes, super helpful over email or office hours, amazing prep for exams that makes studying very stress-free. Quizzes are half-collaborative. Writing req. is very straightforward to do well. SO GOOD.
very good prof
IM SO HAPPY HE IS A PROFESSOR!! WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE HIM HE IS THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD!! HE IS PROOF THAT ANYONE CAN LEARN ANY TOPIC AS LONG AS THEY ARE TAUGHT WELL. HE IS THE BEST !!!!!!!
No complaints. Would take again!
Professor Cantu is an amazing teacher - very engaging, explains concepts clearly, and genuinely cares about students' learning. Homework isn't too heavy, and Unstuckstudy is a great supplemental tool for prep. Overall, a highly recommended math class!
Amazing guy and would definitely take again, he's interested in getting to know his students personally which is really nice. The class was pretty difficult for me only because I was unfamiliar with proofs and this side of math so it was a change of scenery for sure. Lectures were neat and there was time before and after class to ask any questions
TAKE DR CANTU! He is literally THE BEST math professor I have ever had! He really cares about his students and loves to answer questions in class. Lots of office hours. I even asked if he would write me a letter of rec for grad school and he agreed (of course). His lecture notes are PERFECT. Exactly what a math class should be. TAKE DR CANTU!
Honestly the best Math prof here at tamu. Calm, kind, caring, and has engaging lectures are also posted online if you miss class. None of the class is hard if you work hard, definitely an A/B class. The research paper is pretty easy as well, he's straightforward and gives assignments ahead of time.
BEST PROF EVER! Homework quizzes and exams are super fair compared to lecture notes. No curveballs. All lectures are recorded and posted. He moves at a good pace and is always willing to explain things twice. Gives good amount of time between assigning things and their due dates. Super approachable. If you see his name on any math course, TAKE HIM!
He's a nice professor that teaches the content well. His homework and exams aren't too bad either as long as you do your work and he leaves good feedback on your assignments. The only slight problem I have is that sometimes he works a little too slow.
10/10 professor to take for any math class. Extremely receptive to questions, neat and organized notes, very good lectures, accessible by office hours and email. Prepares you well for exams, homework is based on notes, overall a very stress-free, great experience for a 400-level math class. If you see his name for any class, TAKE IT !!!!
Loved Prof Cantu! He posts all his lectures online along with notes so attendance isn't mandatory. Doesn't drop exams and there is one essay due at the end of the sem. However, he makes it so that we are constantly working on the essay throughout the sem that way it doesn't creep up on you. Wasn't a tough grader on the essay. Would take again.
Took him for MATH 300 last fall, am taking him for MATH 433 now (course not listed). Undoubtedly the best prof at A&M. Ive never left a rating but his dedication to his students made me want to, he's one of the most caring guys Ive ever met. Teaches difficult content in a way that a toddler could understand, attend his lectures and you'll do great
Love this guy's lectures. Takes care to avoid the assumption that students have already taken calc and takes time to explain everything. Doesn't teach too fast like a lot of other high math teachers
Easy going and posts lecture recordings.
This guy is genuinely the goat of calculus. Amazing lectures, somehow makes calculus entertaining. Cracks jokes every now and then and gives amazing examples.
I think that this professor had rather entertaining lectures. Though as someone who has taken calculus in high school, I find them boring most of the time, I can tell that the professor tries to make his lectures interesting. He makes jokes from time to time and makes references that makes you suddenly stop what you're doing and pay attention.
Professor Cantu is the goat. As someone who took calculus in high school, I got overly confident in his class and did not do well on his second exam. Thankfully, his midterm replaces your lowest exam. The workload is manageable, and he's an easy guy to talk to. Extremely caring and sweet, his lectures are super informative. Take him if you can!
Probably one of the top professors for Cal 1. I definitely recommend. Sometimes his lectures drag a little, but he makes sure to explain each topic so all students understand thoroughly.
Amazing prof! Take him for any class you can get. Just show up to lectures and use the lecture notes. Exams and quizzes are easy if you practice the homework.
LOVE Cantu. He has this strange kinda aura to him. Pretty charismatic, funny, chill guy. Loved going to his lectures. Gonna miss him!
Awesome guy, super kind and could teach calculus to a 5 year old. Very happy to answer questions. Posts his note keys on canvas and records every lecture he can, so attendance isn't necessary. Occassionally cracks jokes and shares memes in class. Exams are common, so practice using previous test material. Final is pretty easy as well.
I took BC Calc in high school, but took MATH151 to give my GPA a boost. I have a lot of prior experience with Calc, but Prof Cantu did a great job clarifying concepts I either forgot or didn't get a proper explanation for in high school. The common exams are evil, but you'll have to take those with any prof, so I'd choose Prof Cantu if you can.
Ensured that the material was taught in a way that even people who have never taken calculus could understand. Very understanding guy and very nice.
Cantu is the best math teacher at TAMU. He makes sure that every single topic is clear to every student, and asks if there are any questions very often. If you got Cantu for any of your math classes, consider yourself lucky, because he will make complex math topics seem easy and approachable. Go to his office hours too, he's awesome!
I had a calculus background from high school but I think Justin is great at breaking down concepts and making them easy to understand even for students taking calculus for the first time. Always super helpful. The sweetest, most genuine professor I have had! If you're going to be taking MATH151 I can't recommend him enough.
Professor Cantu is AMAZING! He wants all of his students to be successful and allows for questions. He also says things in a way that makes it memorable such as "fancy stuff". We did homework assignments through WebAssign and there was also extra practice listed so take advantage of that. This class truly helped me to learn all the material fully.
Cantu is amazing! I knew calc from high school but he taught it in a way that I understood it better. There's 3 tests and a final. Midterms have mcq's and work out problems. The final is only mcq. He explains concepts really well and I couldn't recommend him more for calc 1.
I took calc 1 in high school but professor Cantu explained and taught the course better and in more detail in 1 semester than my high school teacher managed to do in 2. Professor Cantu gives every possible resource for you to succeed and I truly believe the only way to get below an A in this course is by not applying yourself. Take prof Cantu!!!
