Justin Germain is by far the best professor I've had so far in college. He gives amazing lectures and actually makes learning fun. He teaches in a way that you do not even realize you're learning because it's so fun. I would highly recommend taking his class. He's also such a goofball it's so much fun just to hear him talk.
If you have a hard time learning a new language, then you should for sure take professor Germain. He will go above and beyond to help you if he can. He is also a great lecture and makes it so much fun to learn Latin.
Best professor at SMU. Go out of your way to take his classes, especially if you're not good at language. Hilarious lectures too!
Great professor, going to his class was the highlight of my day. If you have any chance to take him, take him. You'll have a ton of fun in his class and learn a lot. He prepares you really well for quizzes and exams, and his lectures are hilarious. There's usually homework everyday, but it's extremely reasonable.
Best teacher I've had by far. One of the nicest guys at SMU and easy to get along with. Extremely entertaining and makes genuine effort to know all of his students. Makes class exciting and very accommodating with extra credit. He'll work with you if you put effort in. Highly recommend Mr. Germain take any his classes especially Greek.

Germain is actually AMAZING!! He's so funny and gives you a very good idea of what will be on tests and quizzes. Easily the most hilarious professor I've ever had. No speaking tests in his Latin classes. He cares about making sure all his students do well and gives extra points on lots of quizzes and tests. I would 100% recommend his class!!
the class starts out pretty easy but descends into madness super quickly. half the class dropped before the end of the first week and the rest of us wished we did. germain has a short temper and was incredibly rude to myself and other students on numerous occasions. DO NOT TAKE!!
Amazing. I love him, and love this class. If you need your language credit, take greek. Germain is such a goofball and makes class super relaxing. There is really no reason not to get an A in the class. Homework is completion. The content of the quizzes/tests is always foreseeable so you're never surprised. He really just cares that you do well.
Thinks he's funny when he's not, makes jokes that he forces you to laugh at before moving on, can be condescending if you ask questions. Not a hard class if you make it through the halfway point, he gets easier as time goes on. Don't recommend but there aren't any other options for professor really.
Germains GrecoRoman film and lit class is THE BEST history credit class at SMU. The days alternate between a lecture then a group discussion. He makes the environment super relaxed and comfortable which is good for discussion. Prepares you super well for exams. Theres also a fun movie project which isnt too demanding. Take this class!
If you do not know what language to take, take Latin with Germain! You have to put in the work and study but it is a great class. Quiz every week and 3 tests with lockdown browser. Homework every night but its graded for completion so if you do it you get a 100. Prof is also really funny and caring. I am taking him again for 1402.
Amazing professor. I almost want to continue taking latin past my requirement just to stick with Germain. He makes Latin enjoyable and he will ensure you learn a lot. He really cares about everyone in the class, he makes an effort to know everyone's name and is really nice. His jokes might be dad jokes, but he's a really funny guy. Again, amazing.
If you do not know what to take for language credit, take Latin! He teaches the content extremely well and is open to questions. The homework is graded for completion and you have quizzes every week but he went easy on us as the semester went on. Pay attention and act like you care and you will make a good grade. If you study you will do well.
Professor Germain is wonderful, and also very much knows his stuff. I took both of his LATN summer classes to get them out of the way for my minor, and he really helped me learn online, which I normally hate. The class was a bit packed with info, but it was a semester in 5 weeks, and he did his best to make sure that everyone got a good grade.
Germain is the GOAT. Super funny guy who cares about his students and wants everyone to get an A. Make no mistake, he knows his stuff and teaches it well too. Classes usually consist of going over the homework, lecture, and practicing what was in the lectures. He frequently gives out extra credit points and and is understanding about missing class.

Professor Germain is absolutely amazing. I took him for Latin 1401 and 1402 and have no regrets. By far my favorite teacher. He is absolutely hilarious but not to the point that there is no learning. He cares about his students and understands when students need more time or assistance. Take him if you can! Best teacher I will probably ever have.
Professor Germain not only is a great professor but an awesome person!! He is the most understanding professor at SMU and he genuinely loves the subject he teaches. He also makes it a point to provide plenty of extra credit as well.
Germain is funny, sweet and cares about his students. There is quite a bit of cold-calling which always made me nervous, and Latin is a hard subject no matter who is teaching it. However, Germain creates a great environment that allowed me to learn a lot! Cannot wait to take him again!
Probably my favorite professor I've had at SMU so far. He is so easy to talk to. Good at explaining things and never makes you feel bad if you're confused and/or behind. I took Spanish in high school and never got it, but with Germain, I've already learned more Latin than I ever did Spanish. Hilarious dude too. Take his class.
I loved the class. I had some experience with Ancient Greek prior but his class was never boring. he makes sure you understand and there was no finals or midterm exams so all you basically need to do is the hw.
RUDE! The class starts out ok but then descends into treachery. He seems nice but he's not and is condescending when you ask questions. He'll also embarrass you in front of other students for not knowing things. Do not take him if you can avoid.
Best professor I have had at SMU. Took him the first semester which was my first ever college class and he made me feel welcomed even though I was the only freshman. I took him again this semester and I am retaking him next semester. He truly cares for his students and is overall a great person.
Ok, so I know there are a lot of positive reviews about him here. But oh my god. This guy switches up the second semester. first semester is easy to learn, understand, and do well. The second semester he changes his test-taking policy, pop quizzes, and he has favorites. Not sure what happened to him, but he became so mean second semester.
As someone who got somewhat of a lower grade, I still think he is a good professor and can sometimes be funny. Drops a few assignments, offers a lot of xtra credit, and is fairly easygoing. If you struggle w learning languages, he is a godsend.
I genuinely think there was one day where we went the full 50 minutes. Super quick lectures and most of class is spent reviewing homework. Professor Germain gives extra credit frequently so be ready to volunteer to participate. Funny and always showed up with a smile on his face.

This is my third semester in a row having Germain and he is the best. I really enjoy this class, one day a week is a class discussion and the other is a lecture. I have ended with an A every semester with him and if you get the chance to take one of his classes I highly recommend!
I LOVE Dr. Germain! He is SO funny and I look forward to every day going to class to see him. He will let people retake quizzes for higher grades and he gives lots of extra credit. He is a godsend for people like me who are not good in language classes. We even got exempt from taking the final! This guy is amazing!
He doesn't even teach. I learned all of the work from doing videos on my own time because he literally never teaches us anything and some of us have to actually learn. He barely stays for even half to class and leaves early constantly, not worth your $$. He's also rude and condescending if you ask questions.

Germain is an awesome professor who makes the lectures VERY interesting and engaging. He is also a kind hearted person who interacts with students on a very personal level. I actually believe he's the worst professor i have ever had and cannot understand his high rating, because he is objectively a bad teacher. Not a bad guy just a bad teacher, you can teach yourself using online sources, that defeats the whole point paying what we pay for a college class. Better options out there.
He's inconsistent and lets people out of class early (which is whyh people like him) but for those of us who actually need/want ot learn, not helpful at all. The guy does not teach anythign and is wanting more to be liked.
Quite honestly a horrible professor. Grades unfairly, doesn't teach but at least you get out early every day and don't really have class.

The guy is not a good teacher at all. The whole time he talks and doesn't even ask for input on how we are doing or whether we are following. He is rude and condescending in office hours when you seek additional help on your work, and he outright refused to respond to an email. Not a good course, not a good professor, take another course, trust me.

Prof. Germain is awesome. Graded by a few things and mainly lecture based. Discussion panels once a week where you have to participate, but they are very open-ended. Overall a good option if you need to fulfill a CC.
The guy doesn't even do his job in teaching but he gives us this busy work and then never bothers to read it. Not a good professor and not an ideal class to knock out a cc.
Professor Germain is AWESOME! He is so kind and gives out extra credit like crazy! If you put in the work, he is VERY easy to get an A with. He is also hilarious and makes me want to go to class to see him. His few bad ratings are from people who are either lazy or just unhappy with life. Germain is amazing and all should take him if possible.

These videos are highly sexualized and have been posted on socials, which hasn't discouraged the professor's use of them at all. Horribly uncomfortable.

His course content is really unacceptable and objectifies women. He doesn't even teach, just plays around in class.
The probelm with him is that he's a total tool trying to be "liked" by the students rather than be a role model and professor, so he doesn't really teach, plays sexual videos harmlessly trying to be liked while also having no point, and we all recognize this and hold disdain for those types. Easy grade, bad teach.
It's like being taught by the overgrown kid in class who was a nerd but now in a position of power so he tries to be cool. Not a good look.

The whole class is a joke and waste of time taught by someone who doesn't care ab what he is doing, there to collect an easy paycheck. He has no real course, no real curriculum, doesn't even bother with grading anything for real and makes everything super easy. Good for GPA, bad for learning, terrible for mental health bc inappropriate content.

Professor Germain is an excellent professor with realistic expectations of students and guidelines for class. He is knowledgeable in the language and is an expert on Ancient Greek mythology and history. I started his class not even knowing the Greek alphabet but ended the class able to read and study Ancient Greek. He is a great teacher.
Loved taking Greek with Professor Germain. Learned so much about the Greek language and culture from his class.

I've never taken a class so unorganized.
His lectures are rambling, unorganized, and impossible to make sense of, never cover what you will need to know for exams, questions are intentionally ambiguous.

Really easy A and that's why people take him. Hes very immature and tried to be “cool” with the frats which was embarrassing to watch and really got us into an uncountable place of class by emboldening the boys to misbehave. Not a college level classroom environment that felt respectful to all.

A joke of a class from a guy running a popularity contest rather than a college course. He has no curriculum, is disorganized, and gives grades out like candy.

Germain is an amazing professor. It is a very easy class when he teaches it. Lots of homework (daily) however it is just completion, and the tests and quizzes make up the whole grade. He gives a lot of extra credit. And you can miss up to 11 total classes which is a lot.
Talks about his divorce too much. Makes you speak for attendance. Awkward. Makes inappropriate jokes, especially about religion. If you miss a class and have a note to be excused, he still counts you absent, which drops your grade a lot.
Great professor. Loved going to his classes. He cares about his students and is really smart.
I did not care for this teacher, offputting demeanor which translates into incompetence in teaching. Cannot speak well and hmmmms and hawwwwws on every little syllable making class time the most excruciating exercise to get through. Super awkward and painful to watch. Makes you talk when no one is even listening. It's a blow off course and everyone knows this but him apparently. Plays weird stuff in class and talks ab his personal life in ways that make us uncomfortable.
Probably the easiest teacher at this school. If you need an A I would take this class. The in class discussions are also pretty interesting. The only homework is watching gas movies. If you say one thing, even just a sentence, in at least half of the classes you will get an A.
