As far as philosophy is concerned, he knows his stuff. He's friendly and funny and helpful. The class is pretty interesting, if you're into philosophical thinking. The tests aren't "easy" but they're not terribly difficult either. If you read the stuff, you should do fine.
Justin Grace teaches in a manner that will somewhat challenge the student to think. I wish more professors would do this! His test are a little difficult but if you do what is assigned and pay attention you should pass the course with no problem. He keeps the course fun and insightful while establishing a real college style learning. GREAT!
he's real cool
This is a subject that I have no interest in, but he made it much more bearable. He's a nice guy & wants you to do well in his class. If you have to take this, take him!
this guy is cool likes to talk on deep topics. he takes philsophy serious you might get lost on some of his terminology he expects that but wants you to ask questions about lectures. Read books, powerpionts to pass. interesting class!!
Justin is great, he knows that 90% of people don't attend TCC with the intent of majoring in philosophy, he makes the topic accessible to students and "user friendly" plus you watch southpark
Great teacher very entertaining. In my class if you study the power point lectures you'll ace the tests. Phil is a deep subject so sometimes one can get lost in the reasonings behind some things but Justin does a great job teaching especially it being an introductory level. Highly recommend. P.S. UFC rocks!!
Great Person, however, he does tend to talk in circles when explaining concepts sometimes. Most of the test questions are on the powerpoint slides, but you still have to read the books for clarity.
Very cool teacher that's willing to help clarify any topic of discussion. Answers to test tend to be in the PowerPoints, which he uploads to Campus Cruiser. Tells you the first day that you can make a C without the textbooks, or make an A-B with the textbooks. Tests aren't easy, but get better as the semester moves along. Very cool guy.
I was excited to state this class. On the first day he told us that if we did not need to be there then we should drop and the book was not necessary. This was the worst teacher I have taken, when asked a direct question he talked for 15 min and never answered the question. I don't believe that he knows what he's talking about. Don't take him.
Had him his first semester teaching. Really encourages class participation, which is great in a philosophy class. Easy going, very flexible, but makes sure to teach the material.
He is a nice guy, but this class is very disappointing. Answers to questions are "clear as mud", because he talks in circles without providing a clear answer. You will pass this class if you read the book and attend the lectures but you will be very flustered in the process.
Mr. Grace is one cool person. He is open minded and loves when students participate in discussions. That is one way to do well in this class- TALK! He is interested in your opinion. Assignments are not hard- put in the effort and you will do fine. Lots of grade curves. Nearly impossible to fail!
I couldn't take his class more than a couple weeks! After the first time he showed a Southpark episode mocking my religion I was completely done. Professor Grace is not very interesting and not clear in his lectures or answers to questions either. I kept thinking "how does a teacher with hardly any morals teach Ethics?!"
I love this prof! I took the same class that he shows the south park episode and he uses the southpark episode as a metaphor and he gives a heads up about the southpark episode in case you're overly sensitive. Ultimately if you think Prof. Grace doesn't have any ethics you probably don't know what ethics are. HINT: Bible does not equal ethics.
He gives terrible lectures and expects college students to have the understanding of aristotle to complete uninteresting assignments.
Prof Grace is an excellent teacher. The thing to remember about any philosophy class, is that are no clear answers to life's problems. What it is good for is helping you direct your actions toward goodness or rightness. Write all the papers, participate in discussions, and have an open mind and you will ace the class.
Prof Grace is great teacher. He does tend to speak in circles, but that's because the point of the class is to study all sides of the arguments. Anyone who says he's a bad teacher, didn't take the time to read the chapters and come to class prepared. You can pass this class without the book if you come every time, but you won't get an A.
This teacher is a great guy. He's easy to talk to and very patient. If I had taken Ethics with any one else most likely I would have dropped it. I highly recommend taking this teacher.
ATTENTION.IF UR NOT INTERESTED IN THIS CLASS DO NOT TAKE IT.U'LL END UP HURTING UR GPA.GRACE IS COOL GUY.BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY UR NOT PAYING FOR PERSONALITY.HIS LECTURES ARE SOO CONFUSING, TEST ARE WORDED SO HARSHLY THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON. DON'T REALLY USE THE BOOK MUCH,ONLY FOR QUIZ, POST POWER POINTS.FINALLY DONT TAKE T
I loved this teacher. I learned so much in his class, he is willing to meet with you and explain a million times whatever it is that you are having trouble learning. Intresting topics that will make you think. I suggest him for anybody, its pretty easy if you apply yourself, and it is even easier to pass with a a or b if you simply go to class.
UMMMM Hello college students should know how to think and do research for themselves. lol Just a suggestion for those who keep saying things about how he talks in circles and his message is not clear, DUH there is not right or wrong or clear answer its ethics! Theres just concepts for you to know. Nobody can teach you how to have a opinion.
Amazing professor! very helpful and clear! always shows up to class with a positive attitude. out of all my professors he is the only one i went out of my way to rate. deff a top pick
I took this class solely on my memory of enjoyment of high school philosophy. This was not the same. It wasn't as fun, but nonetheless I would recommend the teacher and class. He isn't a hard teacher.
Mr. Grace is a pretty cool, funny guy. However, I don't think I would take another one of his classes. The subject material is very broad, and the test answers are extremely ambiguous. You may want the book if you want higher than a "C", to actually understand what he is teaching. 4 tests, one film analysis paper. It's okay to skip a few classes,.
Great teacher who is funny and lectures an interesting class that provokes discussion and debate. He lets you use a notecard with notes on tests so there should be no reason to fail even though the material is a little tough, if you have no experience with philosophy. There are four tests (1 optional), multiple reading quizes, and a film paper.
EASY class but soo pointless. at the beginning i went to class everyday but it got mroe and more boring. Stopped going except for tests and still made an A
You better attend to all his classes because he gives out quizzes and group assignments you can't make up so he gives you zeros. He drops grades but then doesn't drop them so your grade is screwed. He's extra boring and not clear. Good luck.
Ok so I gave a really high rating because he is one of the few good teachers out there.I am usually really critical of teachers but he would be a strech to say hes a ok teacher. I will be taking another Grace class in the fall
Very down to earth and teaches what can be a complicated course very simply and straight-forward. You must do the reading and show up to class and that's how it is in ALL college classes. Philosophy isn't an easy course but he teaches it well and makes it easier to understand than probably a lot of professors do.
Great teacher. Really nice, very easy going. Note cards allowed on tests. There are "group" assignments and quizzes, but all are fairly easy. If you show up, you will pass. Also you will probably learn something.
He does his best to make a confusing subject easier to understand. He is very laidback in his teaching style.
I took his last semester and he is a good teacher. He drops the lowest test grade, quiz grade, and group grade. The lectures are interesting and reading is hard but he is always willing to help you. You can use a note card for all tests and final exam.
Dr. Grace is simply the bomb. I took him for my into philosophy class as well as ethics. Drops lowest a test grade (including final), quizzes are EASY, lectures are fun. I always bought the books, but I know a lot of people that didn't and still did pretty well in the class. Also, boy needs a pepper. You'll fall in love with him. TAKE HIM.
This guy is AMAZING! He has a great sense of humor and truly does love his job. He teaches yet he knows that as adults, we still need to laugh. He is pretty cute (I must admit). The quizzes are easy because they're online and you can use the book. Even if you don't have the book you can look up the reading online. I STRONGLY suggest him.
Great teacher, cute as well. He teaches a very hard subject, and does the best hepossibly can. He is VERY empathetic to students. BUY THE BOOKS & STUDY!!!!
SE-Campus, Ethics: Professor Grace is very helpful and respectful toward students. There is a lot of reading, but most of the material is reviewed in class and he elaborates and makes it very interesting and relevant. Highly recommended. You will need both books...
The reading material was interesting but test were extremely hard! Studied for several days and felt confident with the material but still struggled to make above a C. A lot of the questions are fill in the blank from a sentence in text. Mr. Grace saw our issue and allowed to drop a test grade but it was a really tough class! Good reading though!
Every TCC SE student, please do yourself a favor and take Justin Grace. He is an amazing professor that makes this rigor course very simple. He is smarter than he displays; but he makes himself humble in his methods of teaching. This will make you feel comfortable to approach him with any school related questions. He is a gold nugget for TCC!!!
Took Mr Grace for ethics. Enjoyed the class immensely. Books are needed since he covers assigned reading the next class. Drops lowest exam. Did a movie group project over "V for Vendetta", no problems dropping useless group members. Fair and gives great lectures.
Grace is not that bad of a teacher its just a very confusing and abstract topic. Two books are required and every day a new reading assignment is assigned. He goes over his notes for his lecture. He gives a review but NOT helpful at all. He does gives curve on test. My adivce: DON'T TAKE AN ETHICS CLASS.
Great teacher. He lets you use a note card for the tests. Although the topic is confusing he tries his hardest to get you to understand. Very laid back. I haven't studied for one test and I pass with flying colors...oh yea he gives huge curves for the test!
I took it online and got an A! He is excellent about responding to emails and is always there to help! The quizzes and tests are straight from the book and word for word, but you do have to be familiar with the text because there are some fill in the blank questions. Read the book and you will get an A! Great teacher, highly recommend this class!
Great Professor He is extremely helpful and understanding when it comes to assignments and understanding the course. You must pay attention to keep up in here, he is a great speaker but he can be hard to follow if you zone out and try to catch back up. Take light notes and participate and you'll be golden.
Off-topic a lot. Confusing lectures. Cant follow what he is talking about. Very distracted.
I took his online class, very easy if you do the work. You do have to read the book, but its interesting. You have a quiz (you get 2 attempts) and DB post to do every 2 weeks (for a 16 week semester). I enjoyed his class, it really makes you think!
Dr. Grace is my favorite professor. He's committed to your success. He's funny and he relates to the class as a whole. He will stop and repeatedly ask if your on the same page as him, if you're not, just tell him... he will take the time to go back over things until you get it. Be prepared to study simply because this is not an easy course.
Stress is the main topic for this class. The exams are super hard. You have one hour to finish 40 questions. So you better make sure you want to go with that answer because you cannot go back and check your answers. Most of the questions are fill in the blank. Like come on, the book is already hard to understand and now you have to remember the book word for word. No response to E-mails what so ever. Takes a month to grade homework. For forty questions you have to remember 7 chapters. The quizzes are super easy but when you get to the exams it gets really challenging. I would not recommend this class to anyone. The textbook used is horrible and the author is all over the place.
Great professor! Very nice and approachable. T
I took Mr. Grace for World Religions 1304 and enjoyed his class very much! He is easy going and interesting to listen to. He gives 5 tests, 5 reaction papers, and invited several speakers to our class. EASY A!
He is a great professor. Class is more fun if you participate and he's super nice and laid back.
One of the hardest online courses I've ever taken. Not to brag but I'm an A student and I barely eked out an A. There isn't a final but 8 quizzes that are worth 80% of your overall grade, 20% on DB's. His quizzes are far from straight forward, they're very tricky and his pp notes were useless. Read that textbook as if it were the bible.
Online course, Dr. Grace clearly points out in syllabus all assignments and due dates in a timely manner. Just read the book and takes some notes, if you have questions. email him and he will respond usually within 24 hours. I am actually taking another one of his courses because I enjoyed his methods.
Testdiscussion every other week. Discussion board is very easy but the tests on philosophy are not so easy. It is sometimes difficult to decide what somebody means when they are talking about their philosophy.
Professor Grace was very helpful and interesting to listen to. I would suggest getting the book so you can read along with his lectures because his test questions mostly come from the book.
Professor Grace was interesting and helpful. I would suggest getting the textbook so you can read along with his lectures because his test questions come directly from book.
I took professor Grace's online Phil 1304, and it was very easy. He post assignments at least a week or so early. All you have to do is reading your book, take the quiz and complete all discussion boards, and you're done. It's that simple, easy A.
Expects you to read. The first unit I read an made a 90 for the test, and the others did not read and made a 70. Show up, take notes, and pay attention and you should do fine. Test are kinda difficult. Kind of difficult to pay attention in class. Confusing at times, but overall still interesting.
A LOT of reading! 9 quizzes/9 discussion boards. Quizzes are NOT STRAIGHT FORWARD & are HARD! 25 min. to answer 15 questions w/2 attempts (not enough time). Doesn't tell you which questions you answered incorrectly. No essays. PowerPoints & assigned readings do not correlate with the quizzes. Recommend to take another online professor.
Reading, chapter quizzes, discussion boards. That's it. Difficult topic at times, but easy class. Do the reading and you will be fine.
I absolutely loved Professor Grace and his Intro to Philosophy class! He was very straightforward from the beginning of what to expect, & he genuinely loves what he's doing. Show up to class & PARTICIPATE, participating makes the whole learning environment better, & he's always open to just talking all class if it's good discussion. READ READ READ!
I took this class online (Intro to Ethics). It may have been easier in person. 3 chapters of reading, a discussion board, and a quiz every other week. No papers. The quizzes were hard, IMO. You need to love philosophy and building an argument to enjoy/do well in this class. I'm a 4.0 student. This was my first C.
Great teacher, anyone saying he sucked just wasn't that great with ethics or philosophy. His class and work can be hard yeah but this is college. At least he tries to connect with the students and help them understand the work.
5 wk online; There were 9 chapters to read, 9 open-book quizzes, and 9 discussion boards on each religion. Answers from quizzes come directly from book. (CONS): However, once you've selected an answer on the test you cannot go back and review. Also, professor Grace take a while to grade assignments. ( PRO) But overall, read and get an easy A.
He was one of the best professors I've had! I took this class online. Lots of reading, but the quizzes are word for word from the book! You get two attempts for every quiz. Super easy class
Wouldnt recommend him.
Don't ever take him For this subject!!!!! he didn't care about helping you pass his class....
Dr. Grace is a good professor and all but sometimes when you try to reach out to him it take him a while to answer emails but he does help you a lot if you go to him and ask for help. He will understand you and he will try and make sure you understand the material and also passing his class.
I think this subject would be better taken in a classroom setting. NOT online. and NOT with this guy. Every 2 weeks: 1-DB, 1-Quiz (retake 3x). No Test. Quizzes are HARD! He grades hard on DB. I emailed him about something, all he said was "Refer to syllabus" which wasn't in it. Don't think you will be able to cheat b/c its online. Quiz: 15q/20mins.
1 quiz and 1 DB due biweekly, but the chapters are 100+ pages. No tests, just quizzes. Quizzes are 15 points, DB's are 5 points. I haven't had a single communication with him the entire semester, so I don't know him at all. He hasn't even posted an announcement. The quizzes are meh, you have 20min for 15 questions. Some are a little tough.
So philosophy for me doesn't come naturally I'm just not a philosophy person. However, with that being said Dr. Grace really tried to help me see the different apsects and as long as you make an effort I don't see why you won't make a good grade. There is a bit of reading which AUDIBLES HELP SO MUCH if you have trouble getting through.
Justin was a lot of fun to have. He is a lot of fun and tries to make the class as carefree as possible. Not a lot of work to do outside of class. Will work around your schedule if you need to take a test at a different time. He shows videos to help and posts the links to them as well. All in all a really nice guy, I'd recommend taking him.
Took the class online, 1 quiz and discussion board due every other week. each chapter reading is about 100 pages. The quizzes are tough, 15 questions with 15 minutes, may take each quiz twice. The chapter readings were extremely boring. If I had to do it over again I would take sociology instead. Didn't hear from professor the entire semester lol
Professor Grace is amazing. The tests can be difficult if you don't go to class because the readings are explained in class. Very interesting. Highly recommend.
Dr. Grace was a really good professor! Very helpful and knowledgeable about Philosophy. He really got me interested in thinking like a philosopher. There's a lot of reading, but that is expected when you study this type of material. He explains everything, so if you don't understand the readings he'll provide insight.
If you depend on feedback from assignments you've completed to reference what the professor expects of you, do not take this class. There was no feedback the entire semester and also no lecture, powerpoints, absolutely nothing. This class consists of you teaching yourself the material from the book. Other than that, this class is pretty easy.
Lectures and powerpoints are not very informative. His lectures are weak and he lacks confidence. He doesnt give a test review unless you nag about it. Then youll get a vague review. The test contains material that is not on the review/guide. How do you pass?! Im not impressed. I will say, at least its not a heavy class with TONS of work.
I don't know if it was a mix of him along with the students in my class, but this course was overall a mess. Very unorganized, his policies are unclear, he does not stick to the syllabus, and takes weeks to put in grades. Don't expect any feedback either. Be prepared to teach yourself the material.
Professor Grace was the worst teacher I have ever had. His lectures were painstakingly boring, frustrating, and just horrible. You can tell he lacks confidence which makes it worse. His exam reviews are so vague. Honestly, dont worry about studying based off the review because his exams have almost nothing to do with them. Not sure how I passed!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! He will do nothing but talk for an hour. Half the time going wildly off topic. He is never available when you need him, and is constantly late to class/exams.I had to read entire chapters 7 times and scour the internet to write my own review For tests. Luckily I did, because his reviews are a joke. Take PPT notes I guess.
Dr. Grace was an okay teacher, I took Intro to Philosophy online during Summer 2. There was a lot of reading involved and several quizzes based on them, alongside discussion boards that required long answers. I personally wouldn't take him again, if there was a better philosophy teacher I would take it with them instead.
Professor Grace is absolutely the worst professor i've ever had. Relies on the PDFs that he sends out but on the quizes most of the questions aren't in the PDF. Gives no feedback whatsoever to help you improve. Good philosopher lousy excuse for a Professor. Go to a different Professor is what my advice would be!
The quizzes are rephrased from the text in ways that entirely change the meaning but still require a cut-and-dry true or false answer on a very nuanced matter. A lot of the questions could be argued for being either just as easily but is that an option? No. Also you gotta read several hours of dry text that could be a 1-hour lecture instead.
I worked HARD and still didn't get an A. You are expected to never review past lessons/quizzes, write paper for midterm and final without those reviews, read tons of heavy philosophical papers OR watch videos -which are easier- and form opinions like a 3rd year philosophy student would. Your quizzes are 30% from those lessons BTW. Not recommended.
Probably the hardest course I have taken, solely based on quizzes. Discussion board and 10 question quiz due every week. No way of knowing which questions you got wrong and they are what make up your exams. You could be teaching yourself the wrong thing and you wouldn't know. Relied heavily on youtube and random articles. Pretty much taught myself.
I have no information about Dr. Grace, as he didn't really interact much with the class, however his class was my favorite this semester. He provides a ton of learning material, so there is a lot to read, but there's also interesting videos and podcasts provided. It's hard to rate him as a person, but his class was definitely enjoyable.
Almost failed this class! The information provided were very interesting and the work wasn't that bad. However, the professor himself is what made this class difficult. Poor/no feedback, doesn't reply to emails, no extra credit, no makeup work, nothing! If you're confused about something, just figure it out yourself because he's not helpful.
Dr. Grace has your back!! To be specific, the homework assignments were the same every week which was awesome, but depending on the lesson can sometimes be a good amount of reading. Still, if you do the reading and do the work then you will pass! I would take Dr. Grace again in a heartbeat and I would recommend him to anybody. Thank you Dr. Grace!
If you like working at your own pace or just teaching yourself then this class is for you. Lots of reading so good luck with that. Get ready to write papers and detailed discussion boards. I actually enjoyed this class but some lessons are harder than others. He doesn't respond to emails. p.s quiz ?'s are on the midterm and final ;)
Reviewing his PowerPoint doesnt help for the exams. The exams are very hard.
I love Prof Grace so much he's such a great guy. Neat the end of the semester, I gave him a hug three times due to his niceness. I feel like hugging him in the future anytime.
This professor was awesome. He is very chill and relaxed, and truly wants you to pass. As long as you attend the lectures and read the chapters in the book, you'll pass with flying colors.
Professor Grace was very helpful, understanding, graded things in a timely manner, and responded to emails quickly. Class is easy as long as you stay organized, stay active and participate in discussion boards, and stay on top of your work. Would take again.
I took his class 5 years ago, during his first semester and it was a ROUGH semester. I've heard great things going forward, so I can't value my own testimony too highly.
He's a great guy, but many of his lectures are confusing and he didn't explain things well. He's not a tough grader, though and you can rely mostly on lecture slides to get through the course. His tests are somewhat open-note because you have access to a 3x5 inch note card for each test.
Tests were hard but I actually liked the professor and his enthusiasm. Lectures were very boring though. Anyways, I liked this class.
This teacher was very calm and made me love philosophy, tests were hard though.
DO NOT TAKE HIM his lectures are so confusing and his test are extremely hard. I am now in credit recovery because of it. he is a good guy but he just makes philosophy so difficult. do urself a favor and take American lit or anything else.
There is a LOT of extra credit in the class, mainly through extra questions on the test for a total of 120 points per test. Since the grading is on a 100 scale, you can earn up to 120 points per test and can technically get a "100%" if you get 25/30 questions correct. His lectures were not engaging and his lectures were not prepared well.
His tests are more points so you can get extra points and they count towards extra credit, but the class is difficult and his lectures are pretty boring. Textbook is a MUST in this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The professor doesn't give extra credit whatsoever because I asked multiple times. He doesn't give any homework such as quizzes and discussion boards to help with your grade all you have to depend on for your grade in this class are the test which are extremely hard.
Easy class if you do the work. Read the chapter and watch videos from internet. Notes are a slide presentation. If you don't do well it's because you didn't do the work.
This class is very easy. The textbook is not required but I highly recommend it. Extra credit is worked into the tests. Other assignments are minimal and very simple.
Amazing professor. Very good at answering questions. You can do well in the class if you just read the textbook.
Awesome guy. He's very funny and will try to help you as much as you need. The philosophy-1301 class itself was very interesting while being extremely easy. If I could I would definitely take this class again.
Pretty cool professor. Liked his lectures enough to want to show up to class everyday. Only gripe is that the tests are a little tricky. You will learn a lot in this class as long as you pay attention.
Mr. Grace is cool and makes philosophy very digestible and easy to understand. Just do not miss class, the lectures aren't easy to understand without his input or notes. It's also a points-based class, so it's easier to pass tbh. He also doesn't provide any makeup work and the assignments are only provided in class. The best Philo teacher.
He's a really good professor and he really likes to relate to his students. He's also really funny and he gives you extra credit opportunities as well. The topics he taught about were very interesting.
I took this professor in Spring for an online class, and unfortunately, it was a very frustrating experience. He's not understanding at all. He's also a tough grader, gives very little feedback, and doesn't respond to emails or messages in a timely manner. If you're looking for support or flexibility, I would not recommend this professor.
Great guy! Allows note for test and no homework. Pretty easy and interactive class. Attendance is mandatory he has in-class worksheets which you cant make up.
This course included a lot of reading and writing. It was pretty easy to get an A. Just turn in the assignments on time, use correct citations, and keep up with the material assigned to each lesson.
The type of professor that understands electives are not meant to be stressful but still focuses on teaching you valuable things you will think about forever. Easy point based grade, don't miss class, take good notes and you'll do great.
Honestly, the class was pretty easy even if you don't pay attention to everything he talks about. The quizzes weren't hard if you studied a little, and he is a very friendly teacher.
