Boring voice but conveys info WAY better than other 151 profs (Chen)
Very clear in his lectures.
handsome and young prof!
a young pro... hope i will learn somthing from him and get good mark
He barely answers you directly when you ask questions.
boring but very informative
a very BORING instructor but nice notes that is for sure.
Boring voice isn't any help in a morning class, but nonetheless a good teacher.
Knows his topic well and has great notes
Nice to look at.. good notes, very clear
I had him last semester. He's good looking and smart.
Nice Looking guy...and of course.....he's pretty nice too...he explains things clear
Like a doll, nice to look a but no excitement in his voice whatsoever, even though he knows what he's talking about.

Fair tests, monotone :(, but a good/informative teacher

cute guy!! explain things so clearly!! tests are ok!!
he made math make sense to asts students! he taught us like we will be taking kids. he understood how hard this was for us. if i didnt learn math, i surely learned patience and how to be a good teacher.(easy on the eyes, too!)too bad about the curve :(
He is so nice and cute ,but examsare not that easy though
I was not impressed. I went to my friend's class who had a different teacher and learned everything.
Even though the teaching style is well organized and clear, unexpressiveness tends to monotonize the lectures. Exams and assignments are fair but not easy. Gotta be the hottest prof around.
Very organized and clear prof. He wouldn't move on until the class was grasping concepts. Lots of work, but extremely fair; however, grades were curved.....

Notes and lecture quite clear. Exams seems pretty hard, he likes proof and definitions a lot. Take care.
hot but he can't teach! can't believe he asked DEFINITIONs in a MATH exam!!!! going to lectures are basically useless;luckily, the textbook helps!
I hadn't taken math since 1986 - I was so afraid. But Justin made it all so clear (could it be that he was so easy to pay attention to because he is so HOT?) Fair, interesting, and clear. Can't imagine a better math prof.

Thinks he is god. Doesn't know what he is talking about
Nice guy and pretty organized, but exams are very conceptual and too different from the examples he gives and the assignments we have to do.
Clear, goes at a good pace, organized, hot. Great math prof. I wasn't registered for his lecture, but my original prof sucked, so I sat in on his lecture instead and wrote my exams with the sucky prof. Did pretty well.
worst prof ever
He's a reasonably good lecturer, but he expects WAY too much. Tests are 95% based on proofs, and the rest definitions. Non-math majors should probably steer clear, at least for Math 232.
Slow prof, doesnt cover anything in class. Say if u do bad on midterm u can make it up on a final. NOT TRUE !!! FINAL was a killer. Take him only if the whole class is weak, otherwise u will not get the grade u want.
he is very disorganized, and lecture notes/examples are same as those in the textbook. so why didn't he just tell us to read the textbook. Also, 56% of the class failed the final exam and we can see that how hard is his exam
Very easy midterms, easy final, but very low class average. His "conceptual" questions are cute, but irrelevant. Moves very slow, and it takes him quite a while to answer questions. Take calc. with him if you want an eas A.
He is very cute, but not his exams. If you want an eyecandy, take the course. If you want an easy credit, avoid him at all cost..enough said...
Monotone lectures, hard to stay awake. He midterms tend to focus more on proof.
there is black and there is white... and there is gray!

He was one of our TA's..sorta. hahaha unless we just went to him cuz he was there:S He explained things well, but I don't know how his exams are...looking at the above comments, I'm glad I don't. Not like my prof's were any better though.
Gray was a good lecturer and very helpful. His tests were tough but fair.
stop showing up to class after his monotone voice bored me to death. He copied outta the book anyways. Easy exams though. DOn't know what ya'll are complaining about. And yes, i asked a bunch of girls and they all said he was hot. One of my friends says
yeah, he's hot, but so boring. soo soo boring. so slow too. talks so slow that he makes you fall asleep. lectures are pretty worthless. can just learn from text yourself.
man, he's boring, but the first day when he stepped into the lecture hall, i thought he's an actor or something! Every single gesture follows a certain curve, never too low, never too high, but always slow. And he got a lot of color pens, too!
Tough Final, Hot Guy
TOTALLY HOT !!! Need I say more ? But anyway, he's not so bad at teachin, but he is s ... O ... SLOW and s ... o ... BORING ... good thing no names, or else he mite fail me. hehe

he's so hot except his exams arent
Hot, nice, and helpful; but his exams are NOT fun!!! Want a good mark ? STAY AWAY !!!
very hot!he must work out at least 3 hours a day!exams are quite hard.most likely, if you 've never taken calculus before, then you're gonna have trouble,he can't teach!one doesn't have the right to say his test are easy unless they got perfect!
His midterm wasn't too hard, but it was that the questions were time consuming. Just because people think he's hot doesn't mean he's gonna make an easy exam. People that took high school calculus will find the course easier than others.
he is so sllllloowww at teaching this course, the time doesnt seem to move at all... very boring in class...and midterm was HARD, and he's review for the MT wasnt helpful at all, he made it seem easy but it WASNT!!
I must admit he is pretty hot for a teacher but his tests are pretty tough though fair. The qestions on midterms weren't hard, but what makes the test tough is that there are just too many questions for that time period. For students that took Calc 12, this course will be quite an easy one.
He's quite clear on his concepts and he explains them fairly well. But he copies his examples right out of the text book, so I never see a point in going to his lectures. His exams are not "difficult" but they are VERY time consuming. But he scales, so it's all good. :)
Hi is easy RELATIVE to all the other profs who have taught this course. We have access to past exams and some of them are VERY scary.
Clear and helpful !!! I like his speed. I, honestly, would rather have a prof who's clear about everything than a prof who just touches on basics and moves on. I dun understand y ppl are complaining when it's obviously beneficial to us. Keep up the good good work Justin, ur doin' great !
He will make the concept much harder than it should be. Don't ask him for help! He will talk to you for ever and you still won't understand a thing
HOT HOT HOT. What a great way to start off the morning at 830am. He's clear and concise... goes at a slow pace but it's good for us. You can get away with just reading the text and listening to the lecture tapes. Great grasp on english. Sincere and well mannered. fair exams.
wow, alot of girls are posting for this eh? I find him to be uiet dull at times and his lectures take way too long, however I took calculus already so what do I know? but he is definetly nice to look at, blue eys!!
I don't know what "Math lab guy" is talking about. Asking Prof. Gray questions in ACW and at his office is what helped me get thru his exams. He's clear and he genuinely wants to help u, instead of trying to get u to leave as fast as possible. Disregard that "lab guy's" comment, it doens't apply.
Boring lectures, monotone, mean in marking, loves to ask definitions and proofs in his exams!! super long exams, ugly writing, his notes=the textbook! not very helpful!
His teaching was fine, better than Brown. He prepares you well for exams and assignments but he is by far the hottest prof I have ever had the pleasure to be acquainted with.
Justin is very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and funny. He is always available to help students understand the concepts, and explains WHY the exams are tough. I appreciate his scaling of grades. I definitely recommend him as a calculus prof!
He's GREAT! Other than being hot,he's really helpful & takes time to answer Qs.He marks so fairly(even generously) on tests. He explains clearly and not too fast...basically he just wants everybody to get a decent mark & feel good. AWESOME math prof!
Justin is a very good teacher. He explains everything clearly and precisely. It also helps because he is easy on the eyes. His tests are pretty tough, but fair.
he is very great prof. Honestly, out of all the prof i have, he is the great one. In the lecture, he explains things very clear. His exams are fair and so r the TAs' marking. He is very helpful whenever you need help.
Justin is a great Professor. He cares about the well-being of his students in and out of class. He's fair and concise. His exams may be challenging but he always takes the level of difficulty into consideration. I was very happy to make his aquiantance. On the plus side, he's hot. =)
Mr Gray is very helpfull. His notes are clear. Goes through the material slowly to make sure that the majority of people do understand it. Many overheads are neatly typed up, although his writing could use a litle improvement. As far as now, I think he is the best math lecturer I've ever had.
try to avoid getting this prof.. notes suck and hes an amateur
people who are saying that this prof is not good. I dunno who.. I like Justin very much. I like how he goes though things slowly and clearly. Although the midterms and finals were hard like hell, i still enjoyed this class more than math 155 with VERNER...
very good prof, eventhough he's new at it. his notes basically sum up wat the text says, which is great for assignments. his exams r challengin but he scales alot!!! he's also not an eye-sore so it's easier to pay attention in class...for the gals ;)
Justin is, by far, the best math prof I've ever had. He teaches by giving you examples b/c the notes are in the text and for math, u need to do a lot of problems to successfully learn the material. His writing could use some work, though. His exams are quite challenging, but fair.
omg he's the best math prof ever! he knows how to teach and how to make us understand the concepts . He maintains a good pace :) Although some of his exams are challenging, it was by far, fun heh.
Justin rocks. He is great at explaining and very nice. Even if you don't understand it, you can always just gawk at him. He looks like a movie star.
excellent prof! very generous in marking and clear in explaining things
He's an okay guy, the class was easy though. In lecture he's pretty stiff but at least he can teach
One of the worst teachers of my life. He's terrible at explaining, and he does not plan out his lectures according to the time given. He seems to try at times to do his best, but still inadequate. He's a serious monotone speaker and coffee or some other caffeinated drink is mandatory for lectures. His exams differ greatly from the material covered.
willing to help students lol
Justin Gray is the Chuck Norris of math. PERIOD. He was pretty straight forward with his teaching, the material was pretty easy for anyone who's done calculus before. I found him to be funny, don't know why, because he's pretty monotone.
I really enjoyed this class. Justin gives clear,well-paced lectures. His sense of humor is unusual, but I appreciated it. Students who say he is boring must not be interested in calculus. His priority is teaching, not entertaining students. One downside: you might have to stand up yourself and tell your loud classmates to stop talking in class!
justin is a nice guy, but a lil shy.good explainations and good notes. teaches @ good pace and easy to understand. exams can be tricky but as long as you study you should be fine. likes to help students too! it will be an honor to be in his later classes.
Overhead slides, and clear voice when teaching. Open book tests and the test was hard. ~~but if you study and know where everything is in the text book you ll do fine.
Good explanation of concepts and gives some good advice for success in the course. Notes are decent but not always too organized. Exams are fair and usually open book.
Very fair and helpful prof, knew what he was doing and encouraged question consistently. Always mono-tone but you get passed it after first few lectures. Pretty hard but fair midterms and open book. Nice and easy to approach overall a great prof
Awesome prof! He genuinely cares about the students, honestly. He's really fair - several times someone asked for an extension and I think every time he gave it. Open textbook exams might seem bad but actually is really helpful.
the course is not easy, but the prof is great; notes are really clear and organized. open-book exams, and fair marking system.
Best math prof ever. It's too bad he won't be teaching for ...I think 2 years, otherwise I'd take courses with him for sure.
easiest math prof ever!!!
AWESOME
Gray enjoys stating math in a very clear and consice manner to which most non-math majors cannot relate. It is especially difficult as he teaches first year (math 151) to new high school grads who don't speak mathematician. Finally his open book exam method is simply his excuse for giving insanely difficult exams..to which the book will not help.
very clear, and easy to copy down notes
- very good
Very clear explanations -- great teaching style and pace. Always open to questions. Assignments are not too hard; just don't leave them till the last minute. Midterm is open book, but you won't need to use it if you know the concepts. Overall midterm is fair. This is a great prof and you're lucky if you have him for your first year math courses.
Very buff math god
Overall, a very clear prof who gives a very fair midterm exam. However, the material that he teaches is very superficial and only covers the basic concepts of calculus, so a lot of extra studying is required for exams.Sometimes, he's one of those "Oops the answer to that example is wrong, but you get the point" professors, so beware!
He's good at squeezing a joke in with a straight face.
Greatest teacher you will ever get at SFU. Amazing and clear notes, mostly easy open book midterms and finals. He answers all questions anyone has and is very friendly. Great way to start the day. TRY TO GET J. GRAY!!!!
This guy is way too hard to be teaching a first year math course. His midterms are ridiculously tough and the fact that they are openbook doesn't help at all. The questions in the midterms are way tougher than the ones he works out in lecture and the ones in the textbook. By no means is this class a GPA booster.
plays funny calculus songs, makes you lol
This prof isn't too hard. He gives open book exams but he only does so because he knows that only advanced concepts are tested and the text won't be helpful. It is quite obvious that he loves teaching this subject, if you manage to find him outside of class he can also be quite helpful. He loves answering questions in lectures.
This guy is a pretty good professor. Having taken calculus prior to his class I knew that it was a tough subject, but he teaches it at a slow pace so you get a really good idea of what's going on. The only thing I didn't like about the class was the way the TA's marked the homework and exams. But that's separate from the prof, so prof is good!
......
His lectures build your confidence but are almost completly not related to the assignments. Exams are either easy or hard, he doesnt have a medium. Yes our class had open textbook exams but doesnt help as much as you would think. Be aware though, he is the SFU deadlift champion!!!! (over 500lbs)....in other words, dont fight him
I don't know why these students whine about him. He is the best math teacher ever. Using textbook during the exam IS helpful. Slackers just don't know how to use it. The lecture material is much related to the exams but you can't expect him to cover everything on the textbook. You will definitely need to do some extra reading(homework) from the tex
Excellent prof! Made math a better experience for me and he goes over explanations well. His tests are not too hard and not too easy, so study the textbk. His notes are helpful as well and he takes some of his exam questions from previous homework questions or from his notes.
Hes a great teacher, the first two midterms were easy and the last one was a killer.
Takes it at a slow pace. Midterms are tough, but fair. Final had a couple of easy questions but overall extremely hard. But, he takes that into account when deciding grades. My ONLY complaints were that some h/w was seemingly unrelated to lecture & i hated when he used a random computer graphing tool Overall GREAT!!!
The lectures are clear and at a great pace (sometimes slow). The exams are just like the examples in class and hwk, so you can't do poorly if you attend regularly and do the homework. The final was a bit hard but difficulty was taken into account.
Now I love math because of this guy!
He likes to engage everyone in the class. Make sure you do all the assignments. most of the questions on his tests are very similar to the assignments questions.
The best math teacher I've ever had. I would definitely take any course he taught in the future.
really easy to understand. easy exams if you did the assigned homework. always willing to help
One of the best prof's/Teachers I've ever had!
Best prof I ever had!
Amazing prof
Such a great prof! He takes difficult concepts and breaks them down so you can understand them. Also, very good looking. So coming to class isn't a chore!
Justin is a great professor. He is not arrogant as some tend to be. He grades his students quite fairly if he sees you put in the effort on quizzes and he sees improvement. Highly recommended for any math course he's teaching.
Very straight forward and organized class. Gets to the point and teaches what needs to be taught and nothing else. Very neutral person.
Amazing prof that definitely knew what he was doing, If you keep up with assignments and pay attention in lecture, you won't have much trouble...
Clean and tidy presentation. Sometimes a bit confusing, but textbook will save you. 2 Midterms, which are very fair (notes and homework helps a lot). 1 Mid = 15% overall. It reduces the DAMAGE in case you bomb 1. Final is harder, so study 1 week earlier is a must. Looks boring, but he is funny. Recommend for all 1st year, and YOU~~~
Great prof. Explained all the concepts with great details. Good interest in the course. Cares about his students and wants them to do well in the course. Good looking. You will do well as long as you do the assigned textbook ques, weekly homework assignments and the online questions. Midterms & final were just like the assignments. Nothing tricky
Justin's a great prof!! He's got good notes and does lots of examples that come out on exams. The midterms were pretty easy, the final was harder, but not too bad. And he's hot ;)
Really good prof, if you work hard on your final and has a significant improvement, he will push your grade!GOOD PROF, exam is fairly.
Having previously taken calc 12 in high school was a benefit. For most people, this was there first calc course and it was pretty advanced. Attending the workshops were useful as the paper assignments and online work were challenging. Exams were fair, as long as you complete the textbook work you should be fine.
Very nice prof, and gives clear explanations. Midterms and Final are fair and straight-forward IF you do all the textbook assignments. Kind and patient when answering questions. Course doesn't require too much work if you've taken Calc in high school.
final is harder than homework... just read the textbook, u ll be good. lectures are boring and useless.
Super nice guy. And has very clear lecture notes. But requires a lot of work to do.. Do the homework and you will be fine.
Fav prof so far, a really nice guy! Lectures are not super interesting but gives you a good idea of the materials. He's patient and explains questions well. Definitely recommand him.
Justin Gray has got to be the most hilariously awkward teacher I have ever met. It is clear that he loves the subject, and wants to share his joy with the class. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He is always willing to help students as well!Favorite quote: "Having trouble thinking out of the box today?" while wearing a box costume. ENJOY HIS CLASS!!
Great prof! After going through high school with teachers that did not know how to teach at all, having gray as a prof made it all the better. If you do the homework from the textbook and skim his notes theres no reason why u shouldn't at least get a B. 1st midterm is easy second just a bit harder. Funny prof in an awkward way. Would def take.
Really hard concepts, but Justin Gray explains them in a very clear and concise manner. Would definitely take a class with him again.
A great prof, Dr. Gray is able to teach math very well, and is despite appearences is a very friendly and funny (if in a sort of awkward way) guy who clearly loves math and loves to teach it as well, I give a glowing recommendation, especially in the Fall Season where he does Prof in a box!
Midterms are fair. Final is pretty brutal. The lectures are confusing though, I find that I leave very unclear of take-home points and find it quite difficult to do homework from his lectures. YouTube (PatrickJMT/Khan Academy) is the only way to pass this course.
He's a bit reserved, but when he smiles you will realize what a great idea it was to take math with him. Not only is he good looking and a powerlifter (he can deadlift 500lbs!), he is very clear and helpful with all his examples. His exams are fairly straightforward if you do the textbook questions. Take his class!
Love him! I had him for both Math 154 and 155. He's great!
I have him for math 155 and he is a great prof, the quizzes are directly from assignments,if you study you gonna get a great mark, although exams are little bit hard.
Justin is honestly one of the best professors at SFU. He's very clear on what he wants you to know, and he's so kind and down to earth that you can't help but love him and his class. Awkward sense of humor, but super adorable. Take his class! He's wonderful! And if you do classwork and go to workshop you'll do very well!
A cool guy but not the best prof... He explains things as if people should already understand them. I found watching YouTube videos to be much more effective to learn the material.
Not the best prof. He's definitely a nice guy and knows his calculus, but he's terrible at explaining things. He teaches calculus in a way that it seems like he expects you to already know the material. Very clear, but just reads over slides and doesn't explain things clearly.
I took both MATH 154 and 155 with Dr. Gray and was very happy I did. Extremely clear and concise when explaining concepts. Approachable, very helpful. Loved his interesting and weird sense of humor too. Great prof!
He's an awesome prof. If you do the homework and read his lecture slides you will do fine on the midterm. The final was fair, but many people said it was harder. (I did way better on my final than my midterms and managed to pull off a decent grade).
He is definitely a nice prof, but his final is really harder than midterm. Midterm is so much easier !!!
Great prof. He made lectures fun and the exams were very fair. Not an easy class but a great effort was made to help people do well.
Justin is a good prof. Math 232 is not easy, but he makes it as clear as possible, which could make you understand linear algebra quickly.
He's a nice guy but you better watch youtube videos for the hard part of the course. Sometimes he doesn't explain that well.(The course needs textbook for LONCAPA and weekly quizs are important)
The lecture notes are very useful and are easy to read. He's a nice guy, and can clearly explain the topics, even for the first time teaching the course! Seems to be very approachable, as well. Would recommend taking a course with him.
Tests are very, very straight forward. If you do the homework and the problems from the textbook, you'll get a good grade.
Justin's first time teaching this course. His lecture slides help a lot in summarizing the main concepts of the course, also the examples that he provides during lectures. He is very clear when it comes to teaching the material, would recommend if you are taking math 310!
I failed the course when taking it with another prof and got an A after retaking with Justin so you know how greate he is. Amazing prof and care about students. Final exam was clear and doable even thi I am not a science student
Made exams quite easy relative to previous professors (particularly with respect to the practice MT and final). Incredibly straightforward lectures to understand and approachable too if you have any questions. An excellent choice for the course.
Justin explains math concepts like nobody else. He is extremely clear and explains everything extremely well. I couldn't ask for a better lecturer. However, you must still go through the homework to gain an understanding as the concepts are tough. My low grade in the class is due to my own failure to pay attention and keep up.
his lecture is clear and straightforward.
Doesn't give enough time for midterms, and reads off his lectures notes
Does not give good exam review (not telling which question will be on and just spending time in true/false that never will be on the exam) and copy example from the textbook. Make a lot of mistakes in his lecture.
Math is hard to teach and hard to make super enjoyable. This man here is amazing. Exams are very fair and he goes the extra mile to make sure we understand stuff. Probably my favorite prof to date.
He was a really fare prof and explain every concept despite of the limited time he had for his lecture. but i do think this course need more time. work outside of the class is mandatory as its a challenging course. His exams are fare too.
He was really fair past midterm 1. I agree that we were given too many questions for midterm 1 and too little time to complete. However, in the latter part of the course he was really fair. He scaled the class in the end, so if you did significantly better on the finals than on one of the midterms, the finals would be worth a lot more.
This course is tough to begin with, but Justin is a good professor who explained the material very clearly. Lots of homework questions are assigned to make sure that you have a solid understanding of concepts. Justin was sometimes a bit disorganized and would post lecture slides less than an hour before the lecture, but he was still great!
the teacher was nice, but he expects student to know everything b4 teaching, the lectures were useless does not matter if you go there or not. for the exams justin loves to test definitions.
his lecture is a bit boring but the course is not curved!
Justin was a nice guy, but u have to do as much practices as you can.. the test are fair, do some work and you'll pass.
He's a very hard teacher. Even if you've taken precal previously this course will still most likely be challenging with him. Don't rely on his notes, self teach yourself. Get help as much as possible if you need to. His final was really difficult compared to his midterms imo. Attend class for participation marks. Do LOTS of homework practice.
Justin is probably one of the best profs in the math department if not the best, hes great at explaining complex stuff and exams are fair, hes quizzes are hard tough.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. Failed me for 1%. During this pandemic didnt even consider my request or reply to me. Would never take a class with him and I highly recommend you to never take a class with him because you will 100% fail the course
He prerecords his lectures and they honestly do not help at all. In class iClicker questions are useless, and homework and quizzes are nothing like his exams. I failed all of my exams, but somehow still passed the course. I genuinely thought I would have to retake this course, which heightened my depression.
Absolute worst math prof ever. Good effort to try a different learning method however he's not well enough at explaining to pull it off. Barely shows his steps. Don't rely on him to teach you because you'll have to learn everything yourself. His exams are unbelievably difficult and he's not accessible outside of class at all.
All lectures were prerecorded so you have to watch them the day before class and they can be 40+ mins long. Theres online and off-line homework every week. The online homework doesn't make any sense and doesn't apply to lectures at all. Tests are pretty hard but the quizzes were easy since they're taken from the homework. Be ready to work hard!
Great professor and goes over and beyond to help you. Took this course twice, second time with him and there was a huge difference in the way he taught it. Very kind and lectures are great! He helped me very much!
All in all, good professor
Justin was an incredible teacher, he always tried to accommodate and was really kind with wanting his students to succeed. But like any math class you have to out the effort you want and practice! if you practice, ask questions, and watch his lectures you'll be all good.
Justin's running of the class literally a joke. He was moving to a new place so the few lectures had no teaching component, whatsoever, the canvas page is not updated. He are still stuck at first lecture meanwhile the other section class has finished two chapters. Avoid him.
Avoid if possible, boring lecture, late lectures
Amazing short and concise lectures. To the point. Tests were fair, class is pretty difficult but overall Justin teaches wel.
Despite class being really hard, his explanation in pre-recorded lectures was clear and to the point. Quite honestly a very good prof. The only minor criticism that comes to mind is the structure of office hours/tutorials.
Math 100s going to be a difficult course as it prepares you for calculus. I'm glad I took this class with Justin as he gives lots of homework, practice questions, as well as many sample exams. They were very generous with grading, giving out lots of partial marks and about 20% of the grade was participation in lecture (iclicker) and in the clinics.
Clear pre-recorded lectures with an option to attend "flipped" classes. Weekly quizzes are taken straight from non-graded weekly assignments. Fair midterm.
I had Justin Gray for my Differential Equations course and I enjoyed his teaching, definitely above average from what i've come to expect from math professors. From an unbiased outsider's perspective, there can be a lot of lectures and the weekly assignments can be tough. But like all math courses, if you put the work in you will get rewarded well.
Very disrespectful towards students. Don't bother emailing him or asking him questions in class because he will just shoo you away as if you're a waste of time. His midterms are NOTHING like what is taught in class. Get ready to take a 10 page midterm with extremely ridiculous questions that you will only have an hour to do. He is very intimidating
Take it during the COVID year with online classes. His Iclicker question is completely different from his questions on the exam so be prepared. Having a quiz each week so be prepared for that. Hard to find him throughout the semester but glad that he organized more office hours right before the final exam period.
I'm unsatisfied with the way he taught in class during the lecture. He usually gives us some boring iClicker M.C Qs in lect. The exams were a total nightmare + more brutal, and solving problems in our clinic discussion was complex. Still, I've recommended not to TAKE THIS CLASS w/ him if you're taking math courses this semester.
Prof Gray, was a kind and thoughtful person, but he sucks at explaining. He made lectures worth participation marks, but didnt teach any material in class. All of the material was learnt by yourself on your own time with video lectures that werent explained well.
worst math teacher/prof i've ever had. each class was just mc iclicker q's that had nothing to do with material you're tested on. the exams were extremely difficult as whatever he taught in the online lectures was just base level and wouldn't go into depth like on exams. there were about 40 questions of homework every week that were kind of helpful
This prof is the worst, and his exams were unbelievably tricky and brutal, as they are nothing compared to the lectures he prerecords on canvas. His explanation that Justin had taught in class doesn't make clear sense of the material. But DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM b/c upon the final exam will be more challenging, plus you will fail.
Justin Gray is very nice and friendly, always willing to meet with students after class and accommodate their needs/absences. The exams were not difficult if you did the homework and attended most lectures. Honestly, most of the people complaining are just not strong in math, as he had very fair exams and quizzes that were exactly from the hw.
Justin is a really nice guy who seems like he really cares about his students. His class was extremely homework heavy. I found myself doing work for that class 6-7 days/week. His tests were a bit hard but a lot of part marks were given so they were fair. Just make sure you practice!
He is certified DILF. Good prof and clear instructions. Tests were straight forward and based on the course material. A lot good chunk of the grade was based on participation. To prepare for the exams, just review the sample test and you should be good.
Justin a great prof. He gives lots of free marks roughly 30-40% of his class is easy marks. He teaches Ina unique and good method which is online lectures which you can view multiple times and he does weekly quizzes which are based on the homework. If you do the homework you'll ace the quizzes because there just homework question. Great teacher!
Greatest prof of all time, funny lectures, tough course, he makes the first exam extremely hard, making everyone score very low to maximize pressure throughout the semester. Class average on mid term 1 was 42%. Rewarding learning experience for sure.
SUPERCOOL DUDE!!!!!!!!!!! USES ONLINE PLATFORMS THAT MAKE LEARNING EASY!!!!! WHADDAGUY!!!!!!!
good prof, my favorite at sfu, im a fan
Class avg was C+. Not recommended!
NOT RECCOMONDED!
Decent prof overall, nothing stands out. If you put in the work, your mark will reflect it. Better than Pyke, lol
His lectures were okay, but made me fall asleep quite often. Quiz questions are taken from hw questions so if u finish all your hw, u should be good. The final exam was very straightforward and tbh a lot easier than his midterms. Overall, not too bad of an experience being in his class
Everything is based on the textbook. If you can deal with the textbook questions you will be fine in the exam
He's definitely not a bad guy but his lecture is kind of boring especially when you use jamie's video for pre lecture and he's always a lit bit behind his own schedule kind of boring for 830 classes. Anyway his test is fair and time is enough as long as you prepared with questions behind the textbook
Best math prof I have ever had! Explains really well and cares for students. The problem solving clinics were very helpful and motivating to work in a group.
Justin is a nice guy. He genuinely cares about his students and he teaches quite well. The only downside was that his lectures were pretty boring. The quizzes and exams were fair but the final was a lot harder than previous assessments. Regardless, he is a solid choice for this course.
Took 251 in the spring. Incredibly well organized notes and examples used in class. I found the first mt harder than the 2nd, but both were very fair. Final was incredibly fair, I found it easier than the assigned weekly questions and I did the entire final 3 times during the exam. Loved the course, it made me transfer from business to math no joke
I liked Justin very much. At first he seems a little intimidating. But if you seek for help, ask questions during office hours he is very helpful, patient, and calm. His lectures and notes are very organized and easy to follow. Fair grading.
Professor Gray runs a well-structured course. While his lectures can be dry, the textbook and practice problems are invaluable. Attending class and using resources like unstuckstudy for study prep are key to success.
I think Professor Gray was an excellent professor for the PRIME section in Fall 2024. He may initially seem intimidating, but he genuinely cares about students, is very willing to answer questions, and wants to see you succeed. Ask questions after class, attend lectures, take notes, and do all the practice textbook questions! You've got this!
He is a pretty chill prof that actually cares that the students in his class learn and understand the material.
He assigns a fair amount of work but it's not unreasonable. The setup for the class is kinda unusual in the way that you have video lectures to watch 3 times a week that are due the night before every class. It really only works if you stay on track with the schedule as class time is spent solving problems. Lots of ways to get easy marks tho
As long as you do the work you will get a well deserved mark. He doesn't stray from his sample questions for midterms and finals. He has prerecorded videos that you need to watch before lectures, then he'll present practice questions in class. I found that really helpful. Hoping I can have him for more calculus classes, he really was very helpful.
Genuinely one of the best profs at SFU. The course has quite a bit of work but it prepares you well for the quizzes and exams. Some exam questions were kind of difficult but nothing out of pocket. He's super understanding and wants his students to succeed. Would def recommend.
Great prof, just do the online works assigned and go to the math clinics. very nice and detailed about the questions that people get stuck on.
he is very kind and try his best to help. the class is a bit heavy, a lot of homework but a lot of easy credit to earn. highly recommend taking a class with him
The course is just a slide show
