His lectures are always really well put together. Attendance is not mandatory, but he doesn't put up the slides so in order to learn the material it is best to go to class. You can tell he is passionate about what he does, and for an 8 am is was not a bad class at all. I recommend :)
Dr. J is the best!!! Econ is not my favorite topic, but he makes it very interesting. He makes sure the class knows he actually cares about us doing well and takes our input into account. Highly highly recommend.
Very nice guy but never left me feeling prepared for the exams. Take the class with Mateer
He is overall a great guy, just not a great prof. He talks about his wife and kids too much. There is a lot of material and the tests are each worth 25% of your grade, which most people fail. I have heard other professors for econ are better so take it with someone else and save yourself from a bad grade.
He is a good and fun teacher, but the amount of homework he assigns is too much. Also, his exams are really difficult. But if you go to class and really study then you will get a good grade.
I recommend his Econ class, if you can take it!! He tries his best to make the topic enjoyable and you can tell he likes teaching. He's welcome to any feedback, and is really nice! His slides are well put together but he doesn't post them online so you have to show up if you want them or can get them from a friend. Attendance isn't mandatory
He is a cool dude overall but he is not the best prof. I can never follow what he is teaching in lecture, even when I try. The online homework is difficult and a waste of time. The way the information is presented is unclear and confusing.
You "have" to go to the lectures in order to get the notes. The only downside is that the notes don't help at all on the exam.
He is an amazing teacher and I feel like most of the bad comments on here are from people who are not paying attention or going to class. I studied the study guides that he gives and got an A on all of the exams. The notes do help, make sure you get all the formulas down. I love his teaching method and how energetic he is!
I am getting all A's in my other courses so I know that I am not the issue here receiving a low C possible D with this course. He doesn't do a good job preparing you for the test at all. Instead of just making a clear study guide to help you with the test, he makes you look back on every lecture slide as a review. He's a great person but bad prof.
Jarvis was a great teacher for this class. He is extremely energetic and cares a ton about the material and students, and is always asking for feedback to make the class better. Kind of baffling that people don't like him as the class is one of the easiest in the whole university, and he tries to make it fun
Justin Jarvis is a great teacher. Ill be honest I never went to his class, but the classes I did he was great. He gives out extra credit for all of the tests which helps, if you miss class you can find the lecture slides if you search online even though he doesn't post them and if you just study for the tests for a day or two you should be fine.
Professor Jarvis is a very nice and energetic guy and I enjoyed going to his lectures, though I started to get bored during the last month of the class due to the repetitive nature of some topics. Just go to class most of the time and you should be fine. He tries to make class interesting and does kahoot quizzes a lot. No papers which I liked.
He is one of the best professors at UofA. I always enjoyed going to his lectures as he tries to make them interesting. You have to go to class in order to get the content needed for the test however the material is not complicated. Homework is online and if you do that along with studying all of the lectures, you will pass with flying colors.
Dr. J is the nicest professor ever and he made going to class fun for such a boring topic in my opinion. He does lots of kahoots! The tests are really not that hard if you actually study like you're supposed to and he's very approachable for questions. I'm not sure why he would have bad ratings when he's a great person and great professor.
Dr. J is an awesome professor! Though there is homework due every week, as long as you stay on top of learning the content you will be fine. Dr. J is one of the best professors Ive had at U of A so far. He is so lively and engaging (even at 8 am when I had him!!) I would definitely recommend taking this class!
Nice guy. Dont take his class tough. His lectures are boring and doesnt prepare you well enough for the tests. Other professors actually put the study guide questions on their tests, not this guy. I wish I knew this so i couldve gotten a better grade with someone else.
Dr. J is the nicest teacher I've ever had. He really cares about his students. The topic isn't the most interesting but he does his best to keep your interest. Grade consists of 3 tests, weekly HW and kahoots. If you go to class and do the work you'll do fine
Jarvis is honestly the sweetest person but his teaching method wasn't for me. If your someone who loves lectures and having your grade rely on mainly you test scores, then he will be great for you.
I have no idea how he does not have a 5/5 rating on here. Professor Jarvis is awesome he's a great guy and a really good teacher. His lectures are engaging and somehow he made it so I look forward to going to his class even over zoom. He is very caring and organized.
Dr. J is such a nice guy. He makes his lectures very intriguing and I don't even like economics lol. Crucial you pay attention though, or you will fall behind. He teaches very well so as long as you put in the effort, you will be chillin.
This professor is such an amazing guy. He truly cares about how his students are doing. He assigns three lecture videos with embedded quiz questions but they are not hard to get right. His tests and the rest of the homework is fair and he gives resources that you can use to be successful.
Dr. J was a BLESSING to have for my first sem here. Only have class Th & all other lectures are posted online. Due dates for all work are so consistent that there are no surprises. And, he is the NICEST prof. He genuinely cares about his students, makes class fun, answers all questions, and wants you to succeed. Do the assignments and you chillin.
Dr J is amazing. I was supposed to take this class with Mateer during the covid semester and honestly Mateer is a good guy but he doesn't know how to teach online. Jarvis is amazing, makes class fun, and you actually learn in this class. Weekly easy assignments and tests are not hard at all. Easy A
Dr. J is awesome! He truly cares about his students and the assignments are actually beneficial to learning the material. His lectures are engaging and the material on the tests is always stated very clearly so you know for sure what you will see.
Dr. J is the GOAT. Great lecturer: passionate, patient, and engaging. Can't wait to take his higher level course in the future!
Dr. Jarvis is an amazing professor. He made class enjoyable and despite us being in the middle of a pandemic, he utilized all his resources into making the class run smoothly. There is quite a bit of homework, but not to the point where you are drowning in it. Tests are easy/doable if you take notes and do homework. I would highly recommend!
I love Dr. J! I wasn't planning on having this much fun in an econ class! Dr. J is super respectful, energetic, fun, and a just overall a great guy. There is homework every week and three exams but they are easy and curved.
Jarvis is a cool guy but he assigns way more homework than the other econ 200 professor. He generally explains things well but if I could go back I wouldve taken Dirk not him.
Justin is a great professor. He really wants his students to learn. Just go to class, watch the videos, and do the reading and youll ace it. He is always available to help and take in feedback.
Dr. J is an amazing professor who is super passionate and cares a lot about his students! There's a bit of homework to be done each week but it is manageable. Just make sure you keep up with the lectures and homework and attend class and you will do fine!
I loved Dr. J. This class was easy as long as you did the homework, watched the lectures, and studied. Dr. J is enthusiastic and clearly has an in-depth understanding of the topic.
He is very caring towards his students and wanted us to succeed. I was nervous going into this class because I heard ECON 200 is hard, but he made it super easy to understand. Deadlines are clear so there are no unexpected quiz or homework that you could potentially miss. His class was well structured and organized.
How could I say anything bad about professor Jarvis? He is awesome! I loved taking this class, and he really tried to make it interactive and interesting for everyone. There's a lot of homework for his class, but he allows multiple assignment drops to make up for it. take his class!!!
Dr. J is the absolute best. There's a fair amount of homework but it's all pretty easy. There are three tests over the semester (no final!) that make up 45% of your grade, so you need to do well on those, but they're not too bad. He also gives a study guide before the exam with some of the exact same questions.
His class is very easy to stay on top of as you are graded on attendance, the online homework and tests. It was a challenging course, but if you really pay attention to his engaging lectures, it will make sense. He clearly cares about ECON and it made it much more enjoyable.
I am still taking this class during covid, the professor is nice and chill but can be extremely passive aggressive at times. he tends to ignore questions he doesn't want to answer and the person that replies to emails is very rude and unhelpful. His tests are easy though that's the good thing.
I had him TuThu but we only met on Thursdays. You just watch videos before class, and then he goes over the topics and we play kahoot. Really simple and straightforward.
Dr. J was a super good professor. He always knew what he was talking about and would answer any questions you had in class. I took the class Live Online T/Th but we only met on zoom on Thursdays.
He's really good teacher and he makes learning fun and I actually understand econ now I would definitely take a class with him again. Theres a little bit of work outside of class but he drops a lot of your worst grades
This professor is literally the most upbeat and greatest professor to have for this intro Econ class. He uses discord and that is a great platform for managing several hundred students. All you have to do is watch the lectures and do the homework and you'll easily get As on every test.
I absolutely LOVED this class. Before taking this class I didn't know a thing about economics and Justin Jarvis did an amazing job of teaching the basics of economics. He is very caring, always helpful and quick to answer your questions, and does a great job at keeping you on top of everything. There is quite a bit of hw, but nothing too impossible
I didn't know anything about ECON before this class and honestly wondered why it was a mandatory class for my major. I am so glad it was because this is a class I actually would count as useful. We take so many unnecessary courses in college that we are lucky when we get one that actually will help us in the future. Dr. J was awesome!
He is a great professor. Makes it really easy to succeed in his class as long as you do your part. Also a really fun and interesting class in my opinion.
Dr. Jarvis makes it so anyone can understand Econ! His lectures are put together so well and he is always trying to help you succeed. There is a good amount of homework, but it is imperative to help you understand the topics. Overall one of the best teachers out there.
Very cool guy. Lots of work every week. Makes class fun and interesting. When the HW gets hard, its not very easy to get an explanation as to what you are doing wrong over discord but if you ask early you might get help from your peers.
Dr. Jarvis is amazing. Lectures are fun and you'd actually wanna learn. The overall atmosphere of this course was enjoyable. Dr. Jarvis is really engaging and tries his best to make this class memorable. However, there were a few assignments to do, but it wont take long. If you have a chance to take this professor, take him!!!!!
Class is only graded on a weekly quiz and three exams. You might do everything you need to do to know the information but still get a super bad grade. I do not recommend this class, the grading is unfair and it is not motivational.
Dr. Jarvis is an awesome professor. In the honors section, the essays weren't too hard, and there is plenty of course material to be graded that a few assignments won't mess up your grade. He is super communicative and even had his own Discord server! Attendance isn't mandatory per se, but there's Kahoots every week you are graded on.
Took it live online, might be my fav professor so far. Fun lectures, which is rly hard to do online.
Jarvis is amazing and if you pay attention to lectures you will do fine on then 3 test.
Completely recommend taking econ with Dr. Jarvis. Calls it Club200 and plays music at the beginning of Zoom like it's a club. Very nice. Good energy. Work is not too hard, and the tests were not too bad. Just put in the work and go to the Zoom sessions and you'll be good.
Amazing professor and great at explaining complicated concepts to make them incredibly simple. As long as you do the work and pay attention to lectures you will get an A. Not too much work and only held class once a week. 10/10 professor!
Dr. J is super nice and caring and he really cares his students' wellbeing. He is also super funny and his voice is very energetic and passionate. He is a music fan and will never make you sleepy. At his ECON 200 at ALL COST!!!
Lots of lectures and homework, but he teaches very well! If you go to class and keep up with the assignments you will do well. The study guides he gives help for the tests. Each week is laid out the same so there are no surprises. Great professor!
Dr. J is the best teacher I've had at the U of A thus far. I had no interest in Econ prior to the class, but his enthusiasm and teaching style genuinely made class fun to attend. The material is reasonably challenging while not being overtly difficult. Keeping up with assignments and paying attention in class will help a lot.
I LOVED this class and Dr. Jarvis. I took this class live online on zoom this past semester. Historically I haven't liked online classes but Dr. Jarvis made the material so interesting and I learned a ton. There were lectures to watch and about two homework assignments a week. We had in total three exams.
Jarvis makes a boring class very fun!! He seems like a really great guy and I would definitely highly recommend any class taught by him.
Took ECON 200 online and the class was easy, but tests were tough. If you pay attention and study, you should do fine. Jarvis is a nice, caring professor and office hours are through a class-wide discord.
Dr. J is a one of a kind professor. Wish more of the professors could be like him.
If all professors at UofA was like this man, the school would be top 10 in the world. He is how all should be. Caring, funny and with an important twist of ADHD (I don't think he actually has it tho) which makes him super energetic. He loves us and we love him!
If you have to take econ 200, get jarvis. He has class once a week, and online content for the other part of the week. just do the work and you'll be golden. you get 3 missed classes but then the rest hurts your grade. also, kahoots!
Jarvis is super nice and a really great lecturer -- you only meet once a week, and watch recorded lectures before the weekly meeting. Some concepts are a bit difficult and you'll have to pay attention, but super manageable. weekly inquizitive and smart work, and unit tests are online
I would definitely take Prof. Jarvis again because he made ECON 200 easy and enjoyable. He also applied the material to real life, making the concepts more relatable. Although I didn't particularly like the asynchronous, online format of the lectures, the lectures themselves were great. Overall, he was a 10/10 prof with great care for his students
Dr. J. is a caring, intelligent man who makes ECON 200 an interesting class. He is easily accessible outside of class and wants you to succeed. He is interested in getting to know you as a person and making sure you succeed, not only in his class but outside of it as well. You only go into class 1 day a week and participation is through Kahoot!
Great class. Great professor. Learned a lot.
He was much better at teaching 200 than 407. You watch lectures at home and take a quiz on each video which prevented you from asking clarifying questions. You show up once a week to take a quiz from an assigned reading. He provides study questions for exams but doesn't post solutions, he will answer one if you explicitly ask about it.
Take Justin for ECON200. He explains concepts really well, he's funny, and it's enjoyable to watch his lectures. If you want to get the A then you'll have to take some decent notes and put some effort into understanding the material, however, it's still an easy class.
Plays music in class, is extremely nice, makes you only go to class once a week. Take it!
Professor J was a great. I loved his lectures. He is very organized, has a modern style of teaching course material through watching video lectures online. He is funny, caring, and inspirational. I look forward to taking more classes with him.
This class is a college student's dream. The homework is relatively quick and easy, you only have to go to class once a week, and you get three excused absences. Jarvis is funny and always available to answer questions through the class discord. He plays music and uses a Kahoot to take attendance. There's no reason for you not to take this class.
Get Jarvis for Econ. Great lectures, funny guy, really good teacher. If you do the work you should get an A no problem
Jarvis is great and the only professor you should be taking for Econ200. I spent minimal time on this course outside of class, just show up and pay attention and its an A.
One of my favorite professors I've had. Made class super interesting despite teaching to an auditorium of like 200 students. Made the content super easy to understand
He makes it a point to make this class personalized and more individualized even though its a huge lecture. Great professor, super enthusiastic and intriguing. Genuine guy.
This class is fairly easy but the material can be overwhelming and difficult to retain. Attendance is a part of your grade, so plan to go to class (class is only one day a week). Justin is very enthusiastic so the lectures aren't bad at all. There are 3 open note exams, worth 40% of your grade, so be prepared with thorough and organized notes.
Three tests that are worth a majority of your grade. You have a lot of drops in this class which is nice. Second test hard, first and third relatively easy. Have organized notes. There were a lot of people including myself who were really close to getting an A (like .10 percent away), and he refused to round up grades, pretty upsetting and weird.
Dr. J. is the most engaging college professor I have ever had. He tries to make his class fun, and you learn a lot from going to his in-person lectures as well as by watching his pre-recorded video lectures. There is a decent amount of homework, but if you pay attention in class and while watching the lecture videos, you will get a good grade.
If you want a great, awesome, enthusiastic professor who cares about their subject, TAKE ECON 200 with Dr. JARVIS. Sure Econ 200 is tough at times, but there's lots of help. The kahoots are fun to do and the material is actually very enjoyable and applicable to real life. Overall, hands down best professor I've had thus far in my college career.
The class is easy enough and Dr. Jarvis is a very fun and engaging lecturer, but there is definitely a lot of hw. He works mainly through discord and online lectures (one in-person a week), and teaches very well. For those taking honors, there are only 3 extra papers that are easy enough, just don't procrastinate them. Definitely recommend!
Super good and informative class. He puts a lot of time into making the content understandable and relatable. If you are taking ECON 200, this is the class you want.
really great professor! i had to take the class for prereq for vet school and did not come from a business background. he is really great at explaining and makes class fun with Kahoots, music playing that you request, and discord which makes him very accessible outside of class. makes a large lecture hall feel small.
Jarvis made a boring topic fun and easy to understand. All the materials were clearly laid out and we knew what was expected. If you do the study guides (he does not give you the answer key to the study guides), you will do good on the tests. He was a great professor, and was easy to get in touch with his preceptors for any questions you had.
Jarvis is a good teacher and his lectures are fine but there's a lot of online homework and videos you have to watch and work on outside of class. Inquizitive is one of the most annoying homework platforms and Smartwork is even worse (the 2 websites he uses). Overall the class isn't bad if you just need to take it for an easy online econ credit.
You can tell that he really loves his job, super energetic and always has the best vibe. He really cares about his students. There are 3 exams. Lots of videos with quizzes that are worth point and 2 other homework assignments that are due on saturdays. try and pay attention because there is NO EXTRA CREDIT. Attendance is taken by kahoot!
I've had Jarvis 2x, & he's always my favorite course. He explains concepts with examples that just make sense. 407 is super fun, you read 1 case/week you're quizzed on, it's a conceptual heavy class. He's lively and makes the material enjoyable. Read the cases, participate in discussions, watch the lecture vids, & you'll be good. He's the best!!!
AMAZING teacher. Cares about his students and actually wants us to learn not just pass the class. Jarvis is really a great example of what a teacher should be.
Jarvis is truly a fantastic teacher. I struggled with many of the concepts, and after going to his classes I always felt so much better. Weekly online lectures + quiz, 1 in person class per week, and 3 exams. Cannot recommend this guy enough.
LOVE CLUB 200. Prof Jarvis sets Econ200 up in a way that it is easy to succeed! His lectures are entertaining and almost fun, as its a Kahoot once a week. The online homework can be difficult, but if you take notes its manageable. The exams are difficult, but he is always available to answer questions. Definitely take Econ w Jarvis!
I loved this course, Dr.J is amazing and the content was interesting 100% recommend it.
Meet once a week on Thursdays to take a quiz on the assigned reading. The articles are super interesting and I learned more in this course than probably any other course at the Arizona. 3 tests which aren't memorization questions, they're about the application of real-life economic theories. Would highly recommend ECON 407.
We only met on Thursdays and play a Kahoot! Based on the lecture videos he records. He makes economics exciting. The class is fun and engaging. Attendance is required. Tests are weighted heavy but the homework and panopticon lecture videos balance out the weight of the exams.
Professor Jarvis is the best professor I've ever had at the University of Arizona. His ECON 407 taught me so many knowledge by using real world examples such as studying models from different companies across many industries. From all ECON student this class is highly recommended to take.
Great guy and a pretty solid Gen Ed class. A nice overview of basic ECON. Be ready for the tests, but lots of helpful resources. Should be fine if you show up and do the work
Best professor ever. he made the class super well organized and made it easy to turn in homeworks. Exams were taken online which is super nice and stress relieving. He had fun in his class and ocasionally brought in guest speakers which was cool.
I found the class easy and I can tell Dr.J likes teaching and Econ so that makes class better. I didn't like how we had to watch lecture videos and then sit in his class for an hour listening to him repeat the same things we just watched for homework. I wish he would just choose one for students to do.
Jarvis is a funny guy who somehow makes basic economics decent to learn about. The tests are pretty easy, but be prepared to put a decent amount of time each week into the video lectures since they are for credit.
He loves to teach and you can see that through his lectures. It is easier to learn when the professor actually likes what he's teaching.
Professor Justin Jarvis is good at explaining course material in an engaging manner. However, his exams are challenging and often come with limited time for completion. Despite this, his humor and genuine concern for his students' success create a supportive learning environment that promotes growth and understanding.
JARVIS IS AMAZING. The Economics of Strategy was one of the most fulfilling and informative classes I took during my time at the university! Highly recommend :)
I enjoyed this class, but be prepared to take lots of notes because exams are difficult without them. The lectures are super easy if you have some prior knowledge of the material.
Jarvis is a really good professor who really cares about you. That's all you need to know, Econ 200 is not hard and he makes sure it isn't.
loved him and all the kahoots
Super nice teacher. Kahoot is used for attendance once a week, and all other work is online. Exams aren't too difficult if you use the textbook, and the assignments don't take that long. He is passionate about the topic and wants to make people laugh.
He is one of the funniest and most interactive professors I've ever had. There are weekly homework assignments that don't take too long and 3 tests throughout the year. The class is easy if you put in the effort to understand the concepts each week.
Jarvis is fun and engaging. There are 3 videos, learning curves, and end of chapter assignments due every week. Stay on top of it but he does send email reminders every week. Attendance is counted via lecture Kahoots. There are 3 tests, they're not easy so don't slack as none get dropped.
Easy course for a foundational. Jarvis was accessible through discord and his TA team was always great for assistance. Tests are straight forward enough and relate to the key concepts. The video lectures due during the week can be tedious due to how they're set up to be graded, and no retakes. Luckily all assignment types have drops. Good class !
Jarvis is an amazing professor and makes difficult topics easy! He is very passionate which helps you enjoy the class more.
This class isn't too difficult. Attendance is graded via Kahoot. Videos, learning curves, and homework are due each week. There are three exams and none are dropped. The study guides aren't that helpful. There are no extra credit opportunities. But if you put in the work, it's not too hard to pass the class.
Jarvis makes such an effort to make his students experiences amazing! He's sooo chill and the sweetest ever, I am a slow learner and his teaching style made this course so much smoother for me!!!
Justin Jarvis makes economics come alive with his humor and engaging teaching style. The tests are challenging, but with helpful resources like unstuck ai, I was able to excel in the class.
Guys please take this professor, he's amazing, you won't regret it. Im not even an econ major but he was great
Guys please take his class, he's amazing. You won't regret it. I'm not even an econ major but I lovedddddd his lectures
LOVE LOVE LOVE this man! This man made me love Econ!
I took this class for my business major and I will say that this was the only class that I loved to go too. I never missed because his class is super fun and easy. everything can be Chatgpt and the tests seem hard but he doesn't honor lock them so its easy to pass them and just look everything up.
I am not good at math and dreaded the idea that I had to take Econ. If you're like me, Dr. J is your best chance. It's hybrid. About 5 assignments due every week, even test week. Tests are online. His TAs are going to answer your questions and concerns but he is super chill Im sure if you needed extra help he'd be there.
I loved Jarvis, his lectures are very engaging and he teaches concepts well. But don't be fooled by the one class a week as opposed to twice like the other professor has. There's about an hour or more of online lecture videos you have to watch with questions throughout. The tests are kind of hard, but they are online and open note...
Lectures are pretty interesting, just hate the program he uses for homework as you had 3 tries to get a question right or you lose all points to that question.
Justin is a great professor. He is engaging and makes learning economics interesting. He tries his best not to make it another boring business class and adds personality to it. The tests were kind of hard, but I still passed them. As long as you show up and do the work, you will do well.
My favorite socially benevolent dictator, SBD for short. If you like Kahoot you'll love this class, it's all you ever do. Super easy A, and he wears funky clothes all the time. Likes to talk about his 1232131 kids tho, but thats fine. Tests were online and open note. He curves too. Love this white guy!
He is a great professor, class meets once a week and it's a Kahoot while he talks about ECON and other fun stories. If you have a hard time staying engaged I would recommend his class! The HW is very manageable and overall a very easy class if you apply yourself and stay on top of deadlines, he doesn't except late work bc he has too many students!!
He made his class fun with good lectures. There were a lot of notes, but he still managed to make class fun. You can tell he really cares about his students.
He's a really nice guy who tried his hardest to make the in-class portion of his class fun. Everything is online except a one-day-a-week lecture on Kahoot. If you use your resources, this class should be an easy A.
take his class!!
I was nervous since Jarvis just changed the tests to in person however pretty sure he made them simpler now. He curves tests and the homework is busy work but easy to complete. Class is fairly simple if you put in a little bit of work to study for the tests and make sure you complete all your work.
Great professor! Always made sure to say hello and make sure the lectures were interesting. Weekly homework, which was easy and took an hour. Weekly video lectures with questions.
My favorite professor t
Definitely my favorite prof. I liked the way he did lectures, they were really engaging. He's pretty funny, I would take him again if i could
No materials uploaded to D2L, so def go to class, he takes attendance by Kahoot, and you actually learn stuff/can take notes from that. Overall, very nice professor, very funny, helps you as much as possible. Tests are lowkey hard, but you can have a cheat sheet. (40-question multiple-choice on a bubble sheet). Massive class. Would take again!
Overall I really enjoyed this class, Jarvis makes it really engaging and the workload is pretty manageable. However this semester there were only two exams, a midterm and the final, on 6-8 chapters that weigh 20% each. So if you do bad on the first exam, it is really hard to bump up your grade up after that, there's no extra credit either.
He is passionate about teaching, caring and hilarious. I would definitely take his class again
A nice and funny guy, class was mandatory, he doesn't give any extra credit or do extensions, so be sure to do homework and assignments on time. The homework content was fairly easy, tests were harder, but he was allowed a cheat sheet. Overall, he was definitely passionate aboout the subject, and the course load was manageable.
