I enjoy his class. I already agree with much of the content, but this class has made me think through a lot I had never thought of. You can tell that he knows his material and cares about students.
I like this class. Dr Mclendon knows what he's talking about, even if you don't always agree with him. he goes out of the way to make sure we know what's up in the class. I think he's fair, which for me is the best quality. I think he cares a lot about students and makes it personal. I don't like the minute papers, but everything else is fine.
Dr. McLendon genuinely cares for each of his students. He is very knowledgeable, but I enjoyed mostly just having a professor that made an effort every class period to acknowledge each student and try to know everyone by name. I would highly recommend taking Dr. McLendons Christian Worldview class!
He gives random minute papers for participation and the majority of the class is lectures.
Dr. Mclendon is a wonderful professor. I was encouraged to take him from a friend who had him last semester, and I'm glad I listened. He grades the papers thoroughly, but I learned a lot from the comments he provided. I learn a lot from his lectures, but my favorite part is that he really cares about students. That means more to me than anything.
Was a great teacher and the lectures were long but interesting. He really does care about his students and is always willing to meet with students and ask questions. But be prepared to do a lot of reading. I took the honors and it was definitely do able stuff.
At time his class seems easy but I think it is because he spends time explaining the material so well. I think it would be harder if he didn't teach so effectively. He's a great teacher and he's engaging. I liked the humor. Tests aren't bad because he reviews us. He is a tough paper grader though. Highly recommend.
Honors CWV is no easy class whatsoever--the papers are rough and the amount of weekly reading can seem daunting. Mclendon, however, made this class interesting, clear, and engaging. I wish I could take every theology course with him! He cares about his students and wants you to succeed.
He was not necessarily hard, the class was. He understood students really well, and was really nice and funny. I would recommend him, if you had to take Honors Christian Worldview.
This class is tons of work! But I loved Dr. McLendon. He's a super guy and he really does teach. But he's a super hard paper grader. He literally picked apart my papers, but I learned a lot and improved my writing. I had to work hard for an A, but I'm ok with that. He's very fair, very caring, and very demanding on papers.
OMG there is a ton of work in the Honors CWV course. Mclendon is a wonderful professor. He understands students, and he's super caring. His lectures are thorough and make you reflect. He's not a bigot, and some religion profs appear that way. But you better memorize the GCU style guide when you write papers. He's a beast on paper grading!
Definitely the best professor I've ever had. So helpful and kind. Great mentor in and out of the classroom.
The class was mandatory, so I did not have a good attitude about it. But I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I would learn much, but the content was interesting. The class has a lot of reading. Dr. McLendon is demanding on papers (almost too picky on form). His tests aren't hard if you listen. Interesting lectures. Smart man but pastoral too
Professor McLendon is fantastic. He loves to include everyone in the class and he cares about each of his students, regardless of their faith. He always prays for his students and he wants them to do well. His tests are super easy, and he's willing to look at each of your essays before you submit them so he can critique (strongly recommend).
I liked the class, but I HATE that we are FORCED to take it. I learned a lot from Dr. Mclendon and the assistants were nice. Way to much busy work in this class. Feel like you in high school again. Be ready for random minute papers for participation.
Dr. McLendon is a great professor but the way the honors CWV assignments are laid out are not. He recognizes the intensity of the course and understands that you are juggling more assignments than just his class. He works with you to make sure you are successful. Papers are graded tough but tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class
You're going to read a LOT but you're also going to read quite a bit. Extremely tough grader on your papers, Good Luck. Show up for class and you'll pass the tests. Great person, however I don't think I would want to take him again.
The tests are straight from lectures. His lectures are insightful and he tries to involve the class. Be ready for minute papers that he grades for points. If you want to do well on the papers you better pay attention to the rubric and style guide. this class has a ton of reading. and he expects you to know if even if he doesn't discuss it.
Great Teacher!
He is one of the best professors that I have had yet! I was always excited to go to his class and I even went in the day I broke my ankle because I cared about that class so much. He actually cares about his students and doing well.
Love this professor! I sat in the front just to give myself the motivation to go to class (I have a tendency to ditch when I'm not particularly motivated), but I ended up liking this class so much that I don't even think about ditching. He's very passionate about what he's teaching because he's a pastor. He genuinely cares about his students too!
He wasn't awful but a lot of the class periods had nothing to do with what's on the quizzes. Lots of group work, but the quizzes follow the study guides pretty closely. I would just take this course online and save yourself some wasted class periods.
He was a very good teacher to start off my new college journey.
Really taught the class well. Mr. McLendon did an excellent job guiding the course and made the work we had to do a lot easier. Very pleased with his teaching, and I would absolutely take him as a teacher again..
Was a very easy class and the assignments are not hard but the lectures and very long and boring. It was hard to get the motivation to come to class but he will do participation almost every class. Many of the assignments will be done in groups that you are assigned on the first class.
class is mainly lecture, but that's ok with me. I enjoyed the content. the worst thing about the class is the size. having so many students is a horrible plan by GCU. Dr. Mclendon presents this material fairly and with passion. He grades the papers tough, but the quizzes are very straightforward. I learned a lot. He's very fair.
Great prof! Very caring and smart, and I learned way more than I thought I would. Been a Christian a long time, but Dr Mac helped me understand how theologg relates to the church and ethics. Lots of papers, and he's a little pesky about what he expects, but he gives very generous reviews for the test. Glad I had Dr Mac.
took him because my boyfriend had him last semester. intelligent man, great teacher, hard grader, really cares about this stuff a lot, demands attendance, but also very nice to review us before every test. you won't go wrong with him. but mostly, i will remember that he prayed for me when i was struggling with life. he didn't have to do that.
only take this guy if you take this subject seriously. he believes it all. he thinks God is in charge of just about it all. basically told me I was lazy cuz I wanted to turn in my paper a few weeks after. told me to grow up and act like responsible.
LOVED the class. He's sneaky brilliant, and he knows way more than he lets on. He likes to give long lectures, and he interjects references to literature a lot (which I don't think a lot of students catch, except for the Lord of the Rings). He did a great job putting it all together at the end. He made me think of creation & ethics in a new way.
u can make an A if you go to class & write good papers. tests are pretty easy since he gives a review. he's a really smart profe, he is funny sometimes, but I think he demands to much on papers. its like he expects us to know more than a freshman should know. he told me my paper was "a pedestrian effort which underwhelmed and over promised." what?
he's reall fair. more helpful than the average prof. he talks about stuff in class that I've never heard of even though I've been a Christian like forever. He made us think about Christianity with things like money and jobs and diversity. very interesting. if it weren't for the paper, the class would be close to easy. but the papers make you work.
He is clearly very smart, and has studied a lot of things to better suit his students varying beliefs. He will debate you on your beliefs, which I love, but I noticed he can't play the devils advocate with those who believe in Christianity like he does. His class is pretty easy, as long as you show up and study for quizzes.
He is really interesting to listen too. He is funny and he is very laid back. But the quizzes/tests are difficult.
Really cares about students. Tough grader but really worth it. Great at speaking and covers a lot of material well. All around great guy who really knows his stuff.
He's an all around great professor. Super caring and he worked with our class to make the assignments more practical. He's great outside of class too for theological help and life help. I get the impression from him that he considers our class a ministry and not a job. It does make a difference.
Dr. McLendon is one of my favorite teachers to this date. Although lectures are long, he is a very good communicator and is easy to understand. He is a very personable guy and easy to approach. Understands what students go through and incorporates these things into lectures. Quizzes are not made difficult. Also, attendance is VERY important here.
Professor McLendon was very nice. He was funny and made lectures interesting. Showing up to class is really important, because things talked about in class will be on the tests. He was overall a really nice guy who was personable and understood his students very well.
He is amazing! He really loves his students and wants to help them as much as he can. He cares about their success, and about growing their knowledge of the Bible and how to apply biblical principles. He explains things well, and shows different perspectives. He is available whenever you need help, or whenever you need prayer, which was awesome!
Great professor and pretty funny. Attendance is sometimes taken s in class minute paper. Important to read the tectbook for quizzes.
he's a good teacher. knows a lot and talks about it with a lot of passion and all that, but he really takes this christian stuff seriously and expects u to. i went on a retreat for 2 wks, and i told him it could be a spiritual retreat since I was in nature and stuff, but he wouldn't let me make up my work. Told me to grow up. Sort of a jerk.
McLendon is by far my favorite professor I've had here. He knows what he is talking about so well and is so passionate about it that it spreads to me and the other students. He grades to the standard a college professor should grade and you will get the grade you work for. Show up to class, laugh at his jokes, you'll have a great time!
I really enjoyed taking my class w/ McLendon because he touched on all the subjects that we should be wrestling with (i.e., Women in ministry, what age is appropriate for baptism, how we take communion, and a bunch of other stuff for us to think about). He did a very thorough job at presenting each side of the arguments thoroughly! And a funny guy!
Justin is my favorite professor at GCU! He is so great! He cares more about his students than any other prof! He wants you to succeed, and he wants you to know the Lord better. He will challenge what your know, and make you think hard about tough topics. He is the best! I will gladly take him again, any chance I have!
Currently taking this class. I absolutely LOVE going. Hes engaging and inspiring. I was supposed to take this class last year, but I got sick. So happy I am in it now. Im a believer, so I originally thought I wouldnt learn anything. So wrong. Take this man. The class work is normal freshman level work. Love this class and this prof.
dr. mcclendon is an amazing professor. he really cares about each student and he has a great personality, the class itself is really easy and he presents the material in such a clear way as long as you are awake in class you should get an a. overall a great class
Dr. McLendon was so amazing! He is extremely caring, always there for his students (past and present), and can give you great life advice. His class was always a joy to go to and he is hilarious. I 100% recommend him, he is the best professor I've had!
Such a dad. Cares for his students so much. He talks in LOTR and baseball terms which made it really easy for me to take his class. He is very approachable and will give you feedback if you ask. No matter what your belief, he doesnt judge. He is always looking to help his students and engages in good deep class conversations. 10/10 recommend him.
Justin is super cool, super caring, and is very clear on what he wants. I have the option to take him next semester and I am doing that. He is very informational and knows what he's talking about and loves what he gets to talk about. TAKE HIM!!!!
He is super funny and caring and has bombshell quotes. He is so fun to talk with about theology because he knows so much about it. He is suer chill and usually makes assignments easier by getting rid of a part or certain questions. Great guy great prof.
I absolutely LOVED this professor. So incredible. He was wise, funny, and such a great teacher. I learned a ton, I was excited for class--this was my favorite class by far. He did such a great job making what was difficult to understand easier, & class discussion was encouraged. He was open to questions and always gave great answers. 100000/10! :)
Professor McLendon has been my favorite professor I have ever had. He seriously has changed the way my outlook on life. Makes his views clear but does not pressure you to believe them. The class is so easy it doesnt take much effort but I have learned so much just from his lectures. If you get the chance to take him please do it! He should have a 5
Professor McLendon was an amazing professor you could tell he really cares about his students and their well-being. There were not many assignments in this class although there are three big essays that are back to back but he is easily accessible out of class if you need help.
He is an amazing professor. He truly cares for his students & is very helpful. His class is an easy A as long as you do the assignments and attend class. Attendance is important in this class, if you don't attend class, some material can be difficult to understand for the quizzes. Overall, he gives amazing lectures and I really enjoyed this class.
Hes pretty good.
Took him last semester and this semester and I totally would next semester too. Justin has the biggest heart and really truly cares for his students. He want them to know that they are welcome and loved. His lessons are very interesting, and if you have questions, he answers them in depth and encourages them too. I absolutely love his class!!!
Professor McLendon is such a nice guy. He truly cares for all of his students and wants the best for all of them. I had CWV-101 with him and the class was all lecture and discussion. The class was very easy but applicable to life. He goes through the basics of the Bible for anyone who might be new to faith.
Mr. McLendon was an amazing professor! his lectures were sometimes boring but his IA's would make them entertaining. he was always there to help if you were confused about something or just needed to talk. I would recommend this professor!
Dr. McLendon is my favorite professor I have had at GCU so far. He really does care about his students and he prayed before every class. I would recommend him 100%. He gives study guides for all the tests/quizzes that are basically word for word which are extremely helpful. He's just a really down to earth guy and I really enjoyed his class.
Really caring towards students. Highly recommend this class. Always lets students know about upcoming assignments. Easy to approach and talk to.
You can tell he really loves his job. He is very passionate about this class. His lectures are really boring but everything else is easy. He gives study guides for every tests and quizzes 3 days in advance which is really helpful.
He is the best! He cares about his students, and wants to see you learn and have a good semester! He invests in his students academically, but also pastorally! Love this guy!
McLendon is a great theology professor. He knows his stuff and wants you to learn. He reads all the papers and gives great feedback. Hes not a hard grader. His classes are awesome if the class is involved. He invites his class to his house once during the semester. Loving, Godly, REFORMED(thats a good thing) type of guy.
I loved McClendon's class so much. He clearly cared about and respected all of the students in the class. He answered any questions students had with full honesty and wasn't afraid to share his own beliefs (in a respectful way). He is lecture heavy but has really insightful and important thoughts on what it means to be christian!
Professor McLendon is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had, his love and care for his students is so evident and I highly recommend him for any class especially theology. He loves student interaction and is very goofy and fun. His lectures are always interesting and he is very wise and loves what he teaches. This class changed my life
Professor McLendon has very long and kind of boring lectures. He is a very passionate teacher and loves his job. The work load for this class is extremely light. The in class lectures are just really boring.
He made CWV one of my favorite classes. He is a really great teacher and gave great lectures. He is super understanding and helpful. 100% recommend him for CWV.
Outstanding professor. Intelligent, cares for students, and it's obvious that he loves what he's doing. Highly recommend.
I am not a big Christian but this class really made me look at how Christianity started. Professor McLendon made this class very interesting and kept the class engaged. He is a well-respected individual and very nice. This class is lecture heavy but everything you learn in class is on the quizzes. Would take this class again.
Dr. Mclendon was a really good professor! He loves to talk and sometimes talks about one thing for 10 minutes but its because he is so educated in theology. The IAs did a lot of the grading so it wasnt really him grading my stuff so I cant really say much about that. There's a few group assignments and he put us in a group alphabetically.
Professor McClendon is super knowledgable about theology and teaches it very well and he also genuinely cares about and likes his students. He prepares students very well for exams and papers and cares about the learning and success of his students.
McLendon is my favorite professor I have had at GCU. He actually cares about his students and makes an effort to get to know us. He reassures us and helps build us up. In addition He is a great teacher, funny and a great story teller too. You can see he cares about what he's teaching and cares about the students. 10/10 would recommend.
Professor McLendon is overall a pretty good teacher. Although the class itself was very easy, sometimes his teaching seemed unclear. His class was a bit lecture heavy and was sometimes hard to follow. But he did a pretty good job of explaining the assignments given.
This prof is lecture heavy but was always an engaging speaker. I learned a lot about Christians views in his class and prof tried to address outsider concerns to Christian. He gave a review for his quiz and he told us what he wanted on each assignment. I give 10/10.
Professor McLendon is freaking awesome! Coming into college I was worried my professors would be tough and the class would be even worse but right away Professor McLendon put me at ease. He's such an easygoing guy and the class is super easy. You got super lucky if you got Professor McLendon. You are in good hands and will get an A+ hands down.
Professor McLendon is a very great professor and cares about his students a lot. As long as you complete the assignments and go to class, you will do very well in the class. His lectures are very good. The quizzes are open note and he gives you a study guide the day before. Highly recommend you take this professor.
Gladly would take it again! Engaging, respectful, knowledgeable, & funny. Lectures for an hour usually, TAKE NOTES! 2 papers & group projects are the basis of class but there is no avoiding this. Expectations clear & assignments are adjusted to be easier. IAs mainly grade. Simple quizzes & specific study guide provided 2 days before so fill it out!
McLendon is a very kindhearted man; you can tell he would love to get to know you. The class is lecture heavy by nature and has 6 quizzes but they are all easy if you're in class and glance at the study guide he gives out in Halo. There are 3 group projects with the same alphabetically ordered group, but they're easyish. I loved this class 10/10
Dr M is a kind and gracious man and it shows in how he lectured his material to us. He intentionally helped us see various Christian views and focused a lot on us having a theological method that we can take to ministry. I loved the class and the discussion. Never thought I would say this but I liked the poetry he read to us to.
A very funny, wise, intelligent prof who clearly cared about each of us. Take mclendon!
Dr. McLendon was an amazing professor. He is a nice guy and makes class fun. His IAs were super helpful and kind as well. I highly recommded Dr. McLendon for Christian Worldview. He is hands down the best choice. He was one of my favorite professors and I really respected him.
he gives you to quiz questions before the quiz and they are open note!
Great professor all around. Lots of class discussion and interesting topics. McLendon is funny and engaging and he helped us know about the assignments. Go to class and you will do great. 10/10 recommend.
Professor McLendon is incredible!! He is reasonable with his grading, but my favorite thing about him is that he really tries to know his students. He cares about the wellbeing of a student and is clear with his expectations. He supports students in their endeavors, even if they aren't within his personal theological beliefs.
Dr. McLendon is an absolute sweetheart. He is very lenient when it comes to grades, so as long as you put in some effort into the bigger projects, you'll finish the class with a high grade.
Ok I hated this class at first bc I didn't want to study religion. I started as an atheist and he accepted my skepticism and throughout the class helped me see things in new ways. He's a good guy and he's smart. Go to class and do what he says and you get good grades. Highly recommend.
10/10 recommend. Very nice professor and he's a great teacher. Lots of class discussion and in class work. He's funny and gives a lot of flex so that we could learn various views, which I appreciated. Memorize the nicene creed for the final and you will do great.
lectures fet like forever, but you can tell he actually knows and enjoys what he's teaching. the tests were open note and very easy.
Great prof all around. Funny and good speaker and the lectures are thorough and he don't keep us the whole time. Does not allow computers but gives note outlines and you can use them on quizzes. Several group projects but overall great class.
Dr. McLendon was honestly a great prof. Class was truthfully easy, only negative thing (only negative to some) we had a few group projects at the beginning of the semester. other than that easy class and amazing prof.
I absolutely loved him!! I had him for an online class over the summer and he was super understanding of any life problems going on at the same time, and really just wants to get us thinking and understand what we're learning.
Loved his class!
Good class and professor teaches clearly and engages everyone in the class no matter of belief. He comes across as a really nice man who cares.
Very friendly and understanding, teaches a broad range of ideas and that's something I appreciate. He is accepting of all views and is not going to pull you aside or make you lose points for disagreeing with him. The assignments were weirdly worded sometimes, but that was out of his control as he didn't make them, just a little note for the class.
His class was easy, and he is a good professor. He talks a lot, but it is clear that he is passionate about his teaching.
