Easy class. Tests are only 30 questions, take about 8-10 minutes to finish. Awesome teacher.
Great professor, very easy-going. He explains the material well and has a great sense of humor. Class isn't too hard as long as you read the text and come to class. Very sexy!! (a lot better than Beger, Fine, Erger, etc.!)
He is a really funny guy...I thought he taught the class well, and he's young, so that makes a huge difference when teaching a criminal justice class b/c he knows the new processes. Easy class.
An excellent professor. The class is extremely easier, but Patchin still keep you entertained the entire time. Very approachable and willing to do whatever it takes to help outside of class periods. Take this if you need credits and want something fun.
Very easy class with him as professor. Recommend using outlines that he posts on website and going to class to fill them out. Tests are 30 multiple choice questions and usually take 10 minutes. No need to read from the book - just go to lecture to get all notes.
Professor Patchin is a great Professor and I strongly encourage people to take him if they are at all interested in Criminal Justice. He makes the class fun and the material easy to learn.
He's a great teacher! He's fun to listen to and adds humor into the class. He's obviously interested in the topics discussed and helps you to learn the information. Definitly take this class!
Great professor, great class. 100 times better than Dingwell ever was. Funny, and overall just a great guy.
Patchin is funny and interesting. This class wasn't very hard either. Just print off the outlines and follow along, and you will do just fine in the class. I highly recommend taking this course with him!
Best prof ever... he goes into detail about everything, but doesn't make you sleep. If you have a question, he wants to help you out if you visit him. Tests are easy, great format. Highly recommended.
awesome instructor--very approachable, helpful and funny...easy tests and laid back classroom environment
he rocks, definitely take this class
Patchin rocks... simply put. If you need a soc gen-ed take his class! Its laid back and pretty interesting too... gotta love the jokes!
Patchin is a great teacher, willing to help if you ever need any. His tests are really easy. Just print out the notes and follows his lectures and you will do fine.
His a good teacher, makes class fun. The class is overall simple, easy A, recommend it if you need the GE. Even though he says you should, don't bother reading the book, the notes say it all. My only problem with him was that he wouldn't let me make up points I missed when I was out with mono.
The tests are super easy...all you have to do is follow along and take notes during the lecture and you will do fine. I highly recommend the class.
patchin is awesome!! super nice, super funny, and really helpful! he was very knowledgable and taught the material in a very effective, interesting, and fun way. he's always open to questions and takes class time out to answer them with everyone... highly recommend the class!!
Loved it.
He is an awesome prof!! Class is really interesting and he is really funny. I highly recommend taking any class with him, you wont regret it.
This is a really fun class and I recommend it to anyone. I was not that interested in it at first, just heard it was an easy GE class. It is not hard, and I am really happy I took it because it was fun, interesting, and I learned a lot about the criminal justice system that I did not know before. He is also very helpful if you just ask.
He is a good teacher. Take the class
Good, fun class. And he's a good, fun teacher.
Most enjoyable class and best teacher! He isnt bad to look at either. He makes class fun. Even if you don't need this class, take it. You learn a lot and it is super easy with an awesome teacher
Great teacher! He is really good at keeping people's attention during long texts.
He really knows his stuff! I recommend this class to anyone who wants a fun professor and who is for the most part easy (doesn't everyone?). Can get by with a B w/o the textbook, but if you want a solid A, you should read up. Tests are all multiple choice (with T/F). There are assignments for more points, and he counts attendence as EC random days!
Interesting and extremly easy class. A very easy B without reading the book. Could be hard if you don't go to class, but still common sense multiple choice tests. Great professor that makes class fun.
I thought this class was going to be a lot easier than it was. It was by no means hard, but I just expected it to be easier. Gives extra credit for attendence every once in awhile. Tests are all 40 questions multiple choice.
Uses powerpoints for all classes that are pretty much taken right out of the book. Interesting and easy to listen to (and watch). I large research paper with presentation due the last week of class. He works with everyone during the semester to help them write their term papers and find resources. Exams are pretty easy if you know the material.
He is an awesome teacher! lots of fun and knows how to keep the class interested. He does use powerpoints for all of his lectures but he has random movies in with them. He also has random attendance days which help and exams are simple-they just follow material exactly.
Patchin is funny and engaging. He presents the material in an interesting way. Class consists of exams, pop quizzes (worth 1 point), video notes, and two short essays. It's pretty easy, and extremely interesting.
Patchin is the man, Finally a professor who doesnt play games. He tells you what you need to know, you take notes and then its your responsibility to know it for the tests. No guessing games, I wish all professors taught this way
Def. one of my favorite classes so far. He makes lectures fun,and it is really easy to pay attention to his lectures. Take good notes, and you'll be fine I recommend this class to anyone.
Nice guy, easy class, fun lectures.
GREAT TEACHER! He is sooo helpful. Not only made the class interesting but fun too. Yes his tests are picky on little facts but that helps you learn!
Wonderful prof! Very interesting class! He lets you know what you need to know, and he's not afraid of questions. Makes class exciting. I wish every prof was as organized as him!
Hes a freaking stud. I took the class and i was already interested in learning about criminal justice and the class was really fun and interesting and i learned A LOT! The material was presented so it was really easy to learn and he does crack jokes sometimes. Definately a great prof.
He is a fun, young professor. He is closer to our age and understands us better. I was very interested in his class...and if nothing else...he's cute to look at! His tests weren't really hard and he offers extra credit for reading the chapters before class and sometimes gives extra credit for being in class. Overall, I liked him as a prof.
Awesome class! He takes a topic that can be extremely boring and makes it relate to us and our culture in a fun way. Tests are easy if you show up to class, but if you miss class, your grades will definitely reflect that, even if you read the book. Show up and have fun!
Very nitpicky. I think he's just here to make a name for himself. Poor communication via e-mail even though on the syllabus it clearly states that e-mail is the preferred method of communication
wow the kid below me has no idea what he is talking about, patchin is a great professor who gives you all the time you want if you show your interested, he clearly defines what you need to know and makes class interesting and allows for free thought and to have your own opinion, the kid below was probably one of those that never comes to class
Patchin keeps things interesting and tells you exactly what you'll need to know. It's an easy A but you can't blow off studying. At the very least, read over your lecture notes. My only problem with him is he doesn't know when to cut class discussion to resume teaching. Oh, and he's picky with numbers and percents!
I love Patchin! He is one of my favorite professors here! This class was interesting, but it was definitely a struggle to keep all the theories and theorists straight. I thought it was very interesting, and I wasn't even bored in the class. Definitely study for the exams, but it's not terribly difficult to do well in the class.
Patchin is a great teacher, and he makes the lectures interesting while still letting students get their voice in. Gotta study, though, but most exam questions are reasonable.
Great professor. Makes lectures interesting and entertaining most of the time. Not a whole lot of homework. Has printouts of the notes on his powerpoint online so if you print them out and take notes during class you'll do fine on the exams if you study them. Take him if you can!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! If you dont even like criminal justice you will LOVE this class. He is AMAZING. Hes sexy and a great teacher. My favorite professor EVER. TAKE HIM!!!!
The class is really pretty interesting even if you aren't going into Criminal Justice! Patchin is super cute and knows what he is talking about! He's super organized and has outlines you can print off for class lectures, which makes studying a lot easier! If you are considering...Take him!
Patchin makes class interesting. If you pay attention in class, you really shouldn't need the book. Exams are easy, and he gives extra credit for coming to class.
Just go to class and take the notes and you'll do fine. Easy and Straightforward.
Awesome prof. Takes a lecture class and makes it fun and lively. If you're the average student and need a GE credit or are a crmj major, take him. He's the best. Tests are pretty much common sense questions. Best prof ever.
Professor Patchin is such a great teacher. He's passionate about the subject which makes it all the more fun! His tests are difficult, but if you go to class every day he gives the occasional extra credit point.
He thinks that he is a gift from God and can hardly fit his ego through the door. You can tell that he is only trying to build his resume and is dying for fame with his cyber-bullying stuff. He has no real life experience with what he teaches and it shows with the comments he makes by playing into stereo types and acting like movie cops are real.
Awesome class, super interesting never boring, take notes and study them for an hour before each test and you'll be set
Patchin is a great professor. His classes are not hard to pass, but hard to get a perfect grade in. He explains himself thoroughly and gets students involved. He is very approachable and will do everything to help you out. I definitely reccommend.
Dr. Patchin is a great professor! His lectures are interesting and his exams are easy. If you go to lecture with the notes printed, do the assigned work, participate a little and look over the notes for 30 minutes before the test, you will get an A.
Currently enrolled in CRMJ 301 (Theoretical Criminology) with Patchin. I really find this class to be quite stimulating. If you pay attention in class and read what your supposed to you'll have no problems on exams. The way his powerpoints are set up and the real life connections he makes to each theory make them easy to remember and understand.
Patchin is a cool guy. If you need the Social Sciences credit definitely take this class. I took it for fun/because I needed more credits and I really enjoyed it. Tests are right off of your notes so even though attendance isn't required, it is necessary to do well on his tests. He answers questions clearly and he makes class interesting.
Professor Patchin is by far the best professor i have ever had. Exams are easy, just pay attention and read and you will do just fine in this class!
Awesome professor! He's fun and interesting and super nice. Tests are pretty easy, just pay attention in class! I'm always excited to go to this class.
Very easy class! Tests come straight off the study guides he makes for you to print out and fill out in class. Not to mention he's pretty easy on the eyes
I enjoyed the class and Patchin is very interested in what he's teaching. The class is interesting, but I felt like no matter how much I studied, I still didn't do that well on the exams, they're kind of hard.
Patchin is great! His lectures are entertaining and interesting, he allows questions frequently so you should be able to understand everything. He puts study guides online and his lecture ppt follows right with the study guides so notes can be taken on those. The tests are somewhat difficult but if you study and take your time you will be fine.
Patchin was very clear about the content. I would definitely recommend attending classes because it's easier than reading the whole textbook. He provides very helpful examples and fun stories for the content. Highly Recommend!
Great teacher!:)
He makes class interesting. His class is an easy A if you pay attention and take notes during class. He has funny anecdotes he likes to tell about his past run ins with the criminal justice system. I took this class for fun and it isn't a lot of work and it is an easy A. He's a great professor.
patchin is a great professor. he gives pop quizzes but they're really easy. he gives you a lot of fun information on topics covered in class and makes everything interesting. i barely read the textbook and passed with an A so just skimming the chapters would do. i would definitely take this class again with patchin.
Patchin is awesome. Helped me finally decide to declare in Criminal Justice. Really funny and you can tell he really loves his job.
Best Professor at UWEC hands down. Plan on taking a lot more of his courses. Even if Criminal Justice is not your major this is still an awesome and interesting course to take. He is an awesome guy who is always there to help you out if you need it. Would highly recommend taking this course, or any of his.
Patch is great except for he expects you to participate and deducts points if you don't. Final paper is a research paper and he grades them hard. Super easy material if you pay attention and go to class. Overall easy and would take it again.
I thought the class was boring, but we did watch good interesting movies. Test were quite tough for being such an otherwise easy course I thought.
Patchin is a great guy! Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he's teaching. Tests aren't bad as long as you go to class and take good notes because over 90% of the questions on tests are straight from lecture. Research paper was tough and graded semi-hard, but he was extremely willing to help the entire way through.
Patchin is a great professor. There's just something about his teaching style that kept me engaged for the whole class period. He also is pretty funny and knows a lot about the material in crmj 103. He doesn't show biases at and really leaves the decision of sides to your open-minded opinion. Great prof and I'm not a crmj major.
Dr. Patchin is easily my favorite professor ever. He is super knowledgeable, straightforward with material, and he has funny stories to go along with material and his experiences with the CRMJ system. I really wish more professors were like him.
He is a really good teacher that explains the subject well.
Patchin was one of my favorite professors! He is so knowledgeable about the criminal justice system and always makes class fun. Every day is a lecture, you have a few test throughout the semester and 2 papers. The lectures are always interesting. The testS can be challenging if you don't take good notes and listen to lectures. Would recommend.
Patchin is super entertaining. He is very interesting and engaging. His tests are kind of hard. You have to read the book and study the lectures. He is caring. I recommend taking him.
Great Professor. He lectures most of the class, but keeps it very interesting . I recommend taking one of his classes.
The majority of your grade is based on the exams. If you read and study I sure you would do better then I did. The class was a huge lecture so don't expect Patchin to know your name. Not exactly the easy A I expected.
Patchin was defiantly one of my favorite professors! He was always making jokes and gives notes to print of and goes by them exactly in lecture. There are 4 exams excluding the cumulative final. Easy to get a good grade if you study your notes and pay attention. He is very passionate about the CRMJ system. TAKE HIM WHEN YOU CAN!
Amazing at keeping the attention of his students. Lectures never fail to be interesting as well as substantially related to his tests. You do not need to read the textbook, but studying of his power points and in class notes should get you at least B+, no problem.
He does give pop quizzes but he normally gives a warning at the end of the lecture if he is going to next class. Attendance is not mandatory, but periodically throughout the semester he will take attendance and those who are present will get extra credit. He is a very good lecturer and has a lot of anecdotes that are pretty funny.
Lectures never finish up on that same day- lectures will usually roll over to the next class. Teaches you a lot of useless knowledge that he doesn't even put it on the exam. He has passion but his class is a waste of time. He has too much course material that not all of it is on the exam. Lectures are interesting but he talks way too much.
Great professor. If you need an elective, take 103 with Patchin. Really smart, really funny, content is pretty interesting. The class isn't too tough either, just show up to class.
Not horrible, but not great. The course itself is interesting sometimes, but when writing papers, stick to the script and don't try thinking outside of the box, because Patchin is a tough grader and doesn't change his mind often after giving out a bad grade. I had high hopes for this class and was pretty disappointed.
Easy class as long as you do the work he asks of you. Also takes the time to actually give you feedback which is rare for online classes. Interesting and applicable class, would recommend.
Get ready to work as much as a 400 level course. He expects a lot, many people agree it is too much. The end of the semester is when is he piles on the work. He will state that in class, I am not a fan of this professor. He has a major ego as well, he will flaunt that all semester.
Often throws in questions about obscure facts regarding CRIMJ history on exams, so attend class and listen closely. Highly enthusiastic and well-read in his area. It's a lot of lecturing and not much homework, making tests weigh heavily on your final grade. Be an active listener and you will go far in this course. Reading not required, but helpful.
Dr. Patchin is passionate about teaching and that shows in each lecture. Oftentimes he throws in a personal story/dad joke to show the applicability of statues. This class was very easy for me; you could do just fine without reading as long as you follow along in class. Print his notes from his site and fill them in and you'll be fine TA was a babe
Pretty easy class if you show up for class and study the lecture notes.
Patchin was hilarious. The exams were easy, as long as you study everything on the lecture note sheet. There were two current issue papers throughout the semester and a few pop quizzes based off the amendments he tells you to memorize during the first lecture. Also graded on attendance a few times.
Such a good professor! He is very engaging and I loved listening to his lectures. He gives you note templates and it is very easy to follow. The tests are very straightforward and easy to study for
the perks of this class is there isnt much homework at all, but there is quite a few exams and they are sometimes difficult because he puts random things on there that you arent expecting. Overall its very lecture based and his teaching style is much different in that he doesnt have powerpoints with the notes. He just talks.
Dr. Patchin is passionate about teaching criminal justice. As long as you skim the chapters, take good notes, and pay attention you can't fail. Dr. Patchin even gives chapter outlines for his lectures that double as great study guides.
He follows the same outline of his other classes. Lectures parallel to the textbook. Does 1 chapter a day, and presents info in the same order as the book with some extra stuff sprinkled here and there. He's organized, and knowledgeable. Exams are heavily multiple choice. Ask about the parking meter story.
He was super relatable and work for the class was minimal. Really have to do the reading! Pop quizzes almost every class of what you were supposed to read the day before.
CRMJ 103. If you go to class and take good notes, you should have no trouble getting an A. Graded on mainly just the tests, but there's also a couple short essays throughout the semester. Prof Patchin is super funny and personable. Subject matter is really interesting, you won't be bored. Great class, great professor. Highly recommended!
my favorite professor so far! reminds me a lot of schmidt from new girl, hilarious guy. knows his stuff, and is experienced in the field of criminal justice. throws in stories in his lectures once in a while. overall a wonderful guy and awesome professor. ask about the parking meter story. trust me.
There were few homework assignments and all exams were online. The majority of the exam answers could be found on Quizlet. All exams are based on lecture material so it is important to attend class. Justin has many great stories about the criminal justice system as well. The textbook can be helpful to further explain topics on the note sheets.
Love him.
Best professor I have ever had. I learned so much and would highly suggest taking a class of his.
Lectures were funny and enjoyable, but your grade is almost completely dependent on exams. A good portion of the questions aren't explicitly in the notes which causes you to lose a fair amount of points. He grades on a point based system rather than percent which makes it more difficult to get an A. If all you want is an A, I wouldn't recommend it.
I took this class because I was interested, but it ended up being my most dreadful class. It's difficult to pay attention the whole time and he talks very fast the entire lecture so its hard to get notes down. Mainly graded on exams, and he puts little details no one can remember out of the many pages of notes we have each unit. wouldn't recommend.
I really enjoyed this class. Patchin does entertaining and fun lectures, but it is important you attend class otherwise you will not do well on the tests. Occasional pop quizzes but are only one question or so. As long as you read the chapters, attend lectures, take good notes, and study you will do good in this class.
Loved Patchin. His lectures are full of information but he makes it fun to listen to. Attendance is not mandatory but he did extra credit occasionally if you were in class. There weren't a lot of homework assignments, mostly graded on exams but if you showed up and listened, you would pass.
Having worked professionally in the field, Professor Patchin has a genuine passion for the classes he teaches. He creates an easy-going yet engaging classroom environment that kept me interested in the class despite having nothing to do with my major. Patchin as a professor would be an incentive to take a class, in my opinion.
Best professor I have had so far. Good guy who cares about teaching. Pop quizzes and random attendance. Exams make or break your grade and some questions for exam are only known by people who pay very close attention in lectures.
I think he's a very passionate teacher and you can tell he loves what he does which is always good but your grade really depends on the exams, there are only three assignments throughout the semester with additional random pop quizzes on random days for attendance. Choose when to miss class appropriately! Grade relies on mainly tests
This professor was a great time. Cracks jokes, give extra credit, and all the notes taken in class are accurate to what will be on the test.
I honestly don't know how he has a 5/5 rate, he is the worst crimj professor at uwec. His lectures are fine, but his classes have unnecessarily long papers, and hard exams. He is one of the hardest graders I have, I look at the grading scale and rarely does anyone get higher than a 94%: how are people supposed to keep a great GPA Patchin? Avoid!
He's an absolute gem. recommend. 2 papers, 4 tests, some pop quizzes, and extra credit for attendance. Pop quizzes are almost always on amendments btw. Expect a pop quiz on the first day of real lecture. I wouldnt say his tests are easy- theyre fair. Def memorize notes/ read textbook. There are some pretty obscure dates/ details on the tests.
Makes the class a lot of fun! Exams are a little tough and he doesn't put notes on the board, as you have to copy them down as he lectures, which sucks if you miss something. Also gives random pop quizzes at random points through the semester about the chapters in the textbook you have to read. Altogether a great professor though!
Patchin is a great professor. He is super passionate about what he teaches and he makes the class fun. The class is mainly graded on test scores and the tests are very lecture-based. Go to class and pay attention and you will be able to pass the class.
Very hard tests, boring lecture, one big research paper with a presentation of it.
Love Patchin. The most straightforward class I've ever taken, no surprises about what you'll be tested on or how to complete assignments. Grade made up mostly by tests but there's a few other simple things to earn easy points. Interesting material and not too difficult to get a good grade. He's also super nice and funny, great class.
Probably the worst CRMJ professor at UWEC. Extremely niche grader who does as little as possible to assist students in understanding important CRMJ concepts and instead expects memorization of random events and facts. Clearly passionate about his work, but should stick to research and not lecturing.
Theory can be boring but Patchin made useful connections and had fun lectures. The reason exam averages are low is bc of the way ppl take notes/review. I typed everything said in lecture 7 wrote out flashcards later. I had an A on every exam and frankly my memory isn't even that good. I definitely preferred to take with Patchin over others.
Patchin has a lot of knowledge in the field making lectures very engaging and interesting. A lot of people I know who struggle in his class would handwrite notes or just glace over them before the test. Put in 300 level effort and you'll see pay off. One of my favorite professors at UWEC!
I like Patchin. I think he's a very fun and interesting lecturer. HOWEVER, these tests are some of the most ridiculous exams I've ever seen. CLASS AVERAGE was 25/40 and he just doesn't seem to care. Only take this if you're CERTAIN you know everything about the CJ system. These reviews lie and only rate his personality.
Patchin is my guy fr. Showing up to class pays off for sure, as does engaging in his lectures. He knows the content well and discusses it in a way that is both interesting and retainable. Couldn't recommend him enough.
When I say take this man's class if you can, I mean it. Dude is the face of juvenile justice across the country, so you're getting content directly from the source. He's clearly passionate about his work, and is excited to share what he knows with his class. Show up to lectures, pay attention, and you'll do fine.
Harsh grader. Exams are tough. He adds questions on there that you wouldn't even think to study and he maybe mentioned one time. Your grade is also almost fully weighted on how well you do on the exams and the final paper. So if you don't do good on a couple of them it will tank your grade.
Patchin is a great guy and a good professor! The class is pretty difficult for a 100-level course, so you will need to show up, pay attention, and study hard for exams to do well. There are pop quizzes but also extra credit for attendance. The class is fast-paced, but you learn a lot. He always let students bring up stories related to content.
The most important for this class is showing up for the lectures. All the content for exams is in person, and his slides do not have the needed material. Patchin is an engaging professor who you can tell is passionate about the content and made an 8 am a little more enjoyable. There is a large research paper at the end that is toughly graded.
Very reasonable course load. Recommend studying for exams & making it to class every day. For the final paper he does not give the clearest instructions and is proud that he is known for grading it harshly. Incorporates his own experience and research into lectures which is cool.
Patchin doesn't grade on many things, if you come to class and take notes, you will do fine on the exams. The only extra credit he gives is a paper about a book, so up to you if you want to do it. Accessible outside of class. Few assignments but tough grader.
Professor Patchin is an engaging lecturer, but the class can be challenging. Attend every session, take detailed notes, and use unstuck study for exam prep - it's a lifesaver alongside the textbook. Tests are tough, so be ready to put in the work.
First exam slammed me, but you eventually start to understand what will probably be on the exam. The biggest piece of advice is to show up to class and take as many notes as you can. He puts questions on the exams that you would only know if you went to class. Overall, a super chill guy, and he made the class super interesting.
CRMJ 302 was mainly graded from exams and the final paper components. Studying and showing up for class is crucial! Notes are not available online. It is important to pay attention during class because most of the content is taught verbally. Professor is experienced in the field
Patchin is very knowledgeable for his courses and able to explain very well. His lectures were interesting and he gave time for questions and made sure everyone understood what his point was. Overall if you need an easy credit for an LE take this course as it was not bad at all.
Really easy class if you go to class. All the test information is on lecture info so definitely should go to all the class. Watch out for pop quizzes he likes to do the info you're going to learn about for the day as a 1 point extra credit quiz.
Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, but there will be random times he will add an "extra point of attendance" that will consist of just putting your name and or answering a question about the previous lecture. He is extremely funny and easy to talk to. Take him if you can!
