He's okay. New teacher, at times on the ball, at times not.

His lectures are sometimes boring, but with his assignments he is clear on everything, willing to help at anytime. Very sweet and helpful!

funny and interesting

LOVED the discussions; had the whole class involved. Usage of videos, youtube, etc. really added to them and made the classes more interesting. I took the dynamic course, and he didn't keep us any longer than 3.5-4.0 hours (supposed to be 5), which was really nice. Overall, a very helpful, cheerful teacher - and his humor was a major plus! :)

If you do your work correctly he will giove you a good grade. He is a very good teacher. he makes you work for your grade. well the main work is the research paper. He answer almost immediately when you e-mail him. If you attend class you will pass will at least a B. Make sure you specifically ask him what he wants.

I mean he's got to be the most generous eng 112 teacher. He gives you a chance to re-write every single paper. Plus he gives out a "bonus" paper. Basically he spoon feed you to get an "A". Totally recommended.

Very nice and helpful, go over lessons clearly, give you chances to rewrite your essays. Only 4 take-home essays for the whole semester,no quizes or tests. Fun class,and easy A, take his class:)

Definitely worth taking him for English class. He simplifies everything for everyone to understand. He allows rewrites essays, so that is good especially if you are aiming for a better grade. He is approchable and friendly. he's hot too.

I enjoyed this class;it was an online course.His class was very straight forward, and as long as you passed his midterm and final you passed the class. however, it is a college level course, so your writing skills still has to reflect that, he also gives little assignments to boost your grade up to, which is cool.I would overall recommend him!

I took his class online and really enjoyed it. The assignments you need to do every week are very clear. I took an 8 week course, though, so I would get behind sometimes but he didn't penalize any of it. He also rounds up your grade if you're close enough.

Took ELI class - bit more intensive than I thought work wise...little assignments each week - you will get docked points here and there on everything you turn in. No worries though as extra credit available at end. Got an A in the end but had to work a bit for it. Fair grader/quick responses

Loved this class, and Professor Pilla is a great professor. Took the 8 week course, so there is a good amount of work involved! As long as you keep on schedule you should be fine! Professor Pilla is great with giving constructive criticism and helping when you need it. I will definitely try to take enroll in his ENG 112 class if I can!

4-8 assignments due per week. 3 papers, plus one each for mid-term and final. 8-wk course. easiest "A" I've ever gotten. i suspect he grades to the student, not the course level... irritating, but if you've a strong English foundation, this course is a cake-walk. fast responses, clear instruction, lots of peer review/feedback. take him!

Lots of insightful readings and discussions. Very helpful; I had trouble understanding an assignment and he emailed with me for a few days and gave me resources to help. Great professor!

He is an amazing professor. I took him for both English 111 and 112. He is very understanding. Yes, the class is not self-paced; however, the professor is happy to accept late work. Just email him, he is very understanding. He gives extensions very easily...he grades very fair--just follow instructions and you should be fine. Recommend !!!

Amazing teacher! The assignments were fairly easy and the workload is light. If you generally work hard in the class he is usually okay with giving extra time on certain assignments. I also love how he takes the time to respond to every student's discussion board posts. That is dedication! I almost got a perfect grade in the course as well.

If you take the class online, just do the assignments and he'll give you full credit (it's simply important that you try). You do need the textbook but don't need to read too fully into it. Seems like an understanding person and I personally would take him again.

This is my second time taking his course. Amazing teacher, really easy to get in contact with. Obviously you have to do the work to receive a good grade. The first time I took him got an A, this time i slack a little bit and still manage to get a decent grade. Hands Down a great Pro

Pop Culture survey. The class is a bit repetitive. Mostly blogs and discussion boards. Luckily the readings and units are interesting and the discussions good. He seems to have a decent grasp on the material; hardly an expert. I still don't totally get structuralism and post structuralism. It makes my head heart.

I don't understand the purpose of going into the college and write an essay. These are the "mid-term" and the "final" exam. Any documents you bring cannot have notes on them, and it cannot be a rough draft. They send copies of your outline to your professor, so don't be tempted.

Do the work and you will pass with flying colors. Lots of writing. Quick return of grades. Enjoyed the class; will be taking him for ENG 112.

Honestly, he is a vey lenient professor and the course is an easy A. Textbook is required for discussions. All YOU have to do is complete the assignments when they are assigned and you will get an A. Midterm and Final exams are papers that are very simple. I can't emphasis enough how highly i recommend him.

Professor is great, being an online class I was very skeptical at first but D.C traffic is the worst. The professor is very good at responding back to e-mails and as long as you do what is asked for the assignments it's an A. He is great, take him !

Professor Pilla is great! He is very caring and will answer any questions you have. He even offered to proof-read my assignments before I turned them into him. You do need the textbook, as you have assignments that are related to stories in the text. Just follow the criteria and you will get an A. Exams are just essays related to the assignments.

You do not need a textbook, all the readings were available through his links. Exams are essays that are prepared through the assignments. As long as you do all the assignments and follow the criteria, you will pass.

He is great! He gives relatively easy assignments with clear guidelines. I took the class online and i would take any class with him again. He grades assignments fast and its an easy A. He helps a lot with writing essays meaning he gives you almost all the sources and information you may need and you wont have to do too much research. Easy exams!

Overall, a very easy class. Exams and papers are all pretty easy. He does inform you on missing work which is amazing because I once forgot to do something and he emailed me to complete it. He does care a lot about your grade and is willing to help. TAKE HIM!!!!

Mr. pilla is an easy A i suck at taking classes online honestly i thought i would get a low grade but all you need to do is the homework and you're good to go test are not hard only two and a couple quizzes but like i said super easy to pass

Really loved this class. The assignments were challenging, but they also were very interesting. Reading is definitely mandatory, lots of reading and research required for your assignments.

This is the first online class I've taken and I'm so happy it was with Mr. Pilla! He is understanding of students situations outside of school and lets you make up work when it's missing. Assignments are not hard but they do require a lot of reading. He responds to emails quickly and guides you through anything if needed. Great teacher!!

Course had a lot of reading but overall he did a good job of making us interested in the material. The assignments were good enough but sometimes they got repetitive.

Professor Pilla was one of the best professors I have had. He is fast to respond and offers great feedback. I took his ELI English 111 8 week session class and I felt he made it so much easier by being so active on blackboard. I was disappointed that he did not have a 16 week English 112 as I actually looked for him to take his class again.

Professor Pilla is responsive and accessible. I took this class online and mostly everything was clear and easy to follow. There is a lot of work so don't fall behind. Easy grader just do the work and you'll get an A+, he just wants you to understand the topics. Multiple discussion boards and essays due every week and there are 2 written exams.

i took his 12 week eng 112 class and it was pretty good. he gave good feedback and the assignmets weren't too hard.

Professor Pilla is the best English Professor. He is an easy grader, do your job and submit your homework on time and you will get A. He even accepts late work if you provide a reason. His first priority is students success. A lot of readings and one midterm and one final.

I took English 112 online and he was amazing. The criteria was extremely specific and when I did have question's he responded quickly and was really helpful. I highly recommend him. There are a couple discussion board post's and 4 short essays but as long as you do them and put in effort you'll get a good grade.

12wks online course. There were assignments every week usually short responses. you have two exams easy name the characters and then two short answer. The exams are open book and you are allowed to bring the book for that exam. no textbooks but there is required novels you must read. By far the best online class. Pretty straightforward.

8 weeks online. Each assignment had extremely clear guidelines; if you follow them you will do well. Even though it was an 8 weeks class, I promise you are not overwhelmed with assignments. Only 4 750-1000 word papers, and all other assignments prepped for each paper due every two weeks. Grading was punctual although his feedback can be vague.

Amazing professor. Prof. Pilla is extremely understanding. If you get the chance to take any ENG course online, take it with this professor. There are only two exams. He provides great feedback on assignments! The assignments are doable, even as a full-student.

ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR! he gives extra help if you are struggling with his class the class was fantastic. The exams were well made and portioned appropriately. The professor is knowledgeable and willing to help students. the class enjoyable overall. I would strongly recommend this instructor to any other student.

His class was my first online class through NOVA. His class was divided into units and had different assignments we needed to complete. It could be three to five assignments a week. Some of them took 5 mins and other an 30-1hr. So long as you do the work and turn it in on time you will be fine and get an A.

AMAZING professor! His online class was very easy to follow and actually pretty fun and interesting. He responds back in a timely manner and gives great feedback! I would take another one of his English classes!

He puts a ton of work into the course - he responds right away and gives great feedback. I took his 8 week course and the amount of work was overwhelming (expected for an online lit course) but his grading criteria is very clear. Do NOT take this course online if you do not have the time to do all the work - it really is a lot.

I took him for Mystery in Literature and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. You learn a lot, he is extremely organized, grades really fast, and gives amazing feedback. There are movies that you will have to analyze, but as long as you put in the work you will get an A.

He is a really nice and caring professor. Hes really helpful if you ever get lost or fall behind, and the assignment are actually kinda fun to do.

I had professor pilla for 6 weeks and he showed he cared about his students. If students had questions he would respond quickly, and he graded assignments quick as well. He also gave useful feedback on the graded assignments. Definitely recommend his class.

Prof. Pilla provides an excellent amount of feedback on assignments. He grades the within a week after they are due and provides helpful resources that facilitates the understanding of the concepts being taught. The course consist of discussion boards, writing assignments, readings, films, 1 project, and 2 exams. overall the course was very fun!

Professor Pillas class was my first college course and he is probably the best professor for english out there. I was expecting the class to be difficult, but it was pretty much an easy A. Pilla assigns little work for each week, grades extremely easily, as long as its done youll be given an A. 2 exams overall. if u dont wanna stress, hes your guy

Prof. Pilla is an amazing instructor. I took his class completely asynchronously online, but it was one of the most enjoyable classes I have taken. Of course, reading and writing isn't for everyone, so if you're not a strong reader or don't enjoy history and literature, you might have trouble with his class. Either way, though, this guy is great.

Easy class easy A. It was an accelerated class and I took it asynchronously. Discussions every week and a few quizzes. Midterm and final have some of the questions from the quizzes. He also reveals what essay topic we are gonna write so they are not that hard. He also gives good feedback for each assignment. Would take again!

This class was a little time-consuming (despite taking 4 courses in the summer), but to tell you I came out of the class with a new reading habit should say something. I enjoyed the stories and books, as well as the assignments. It was not a hard class but it was quite lengthy (true for all NVCC ONLINE courses)

Professor Pilla was my favorite professor at NOVA so far! He is very kind and always leaves helpful feedback on each and every assignment. The class can be a lot of reading, but I have no regrets because of how amazing of a professor he is! Take his class he is great!

I took this a 7-week online course and it was very easy! He gives very good feedback and is very understanding. Since it was fast paced there were quite a few assignments, but instructions were always clear. He would clarify if you had any questions.

He is so good for a new writer, and he accesses late work and he will remember you for late work. He helped me a lot to pass the class.

ENG-236: He gives great feedback and quick responses to emails. He participates in the discussions often. Midterm and Final are closed book, but he tells you what to focus on, which helps! Discussions, quizzes, and projects due per module. All resources are provided for the short stories - just know how to research and cite MLA. Highly recommend!

Professor Pilla is awesome!! There is a lot of reading in each module, but manageable. He provides you with many options to do your assignments like essays, creative writing, and presentation style. There are few quizzes and the exams are based on what you learned, plus, he gives you an idea of what to expect. BTW, I took ENG236, no course code.

Online class-attendance is not a thing. U r graded 4 posting in discussions. Prof Pilla is well organized, responsive, interactive, encouraging, kind & respectful. Clear expectations. He asks good ?s in discussion board & make helpful notes when grading. Reading heavy & watching videos=good stuff. Super fun class! Would take his class again.

His class is very interesting, there are discussion boards every week and a project every two weeks but you have the freedom to write your own stories, I can say he is not a tough grader.

ENG 236 was very easy. There were 5 units and for each unit we did a couple discussion boards, a quiz, and a project that you were able to choose what you want to do (creative writing, power point, or essays). It gives you freedom to choose what you are good at. He is a very easy grader. His tests were very easy.

Professor Pilla is a very compassionate and inspirational professor. His mystery lit. and film class is assignment-heavy. Be prepared for lots of reading, assignments, and tight deadlines. The good thing is he's accessible outside of class and cares about your success. Sometimes, there are 3-4 assignments due a week. Manage your time wisely!

I learned a lot about writing in his class. Very nice and reasonable professor. You can do well if you try your best. You have lots of freedom to write about what you want in this class, which was great and made the assignments more enjoyable!
