Printable lecture outline makes taking notes way easier (no computers in class)the weekly quizzes are from the notes. Book is helpful to clarify events and for writing the three essays but way too much reading if you're trying to use it to keep up on every chapter. Great guy I liked hearing his views, but his teaching style is different. You have to read 20+ pages each week, for those with anxiety know that you have to present 3 times and he'll call on you involuntarily. He offers no real lecture, just conversation off the readings. He also does not put any grades in besides exams until after the final.
