Great easy teacher. Goes off topic a lot but makes fast go a lot quicker. Had easy assignments for homework and the only major project done was a group project. Final was easiest ever taken. 3 questions with no right or wrong answer.
Must take class! If looking to pass Math class, take with him! His english is kinda bad but will help you with everything nd you will pass. Great graceful guy, always has a smile, and is ready to help at all costs!
Hsieh's class is not hard, but he is not very clear on instructions and changes them the week before a big assignment is due. Also, he gives wrong information to study for the tests. He is not clear what grades you make and seems to change them for no reason. He does not respond to emails. You probably will end up making a good grade read the book.
Dr. Hsieh is a very good instructor that cares about his student performance in class. if you are doing bad in class, he will encourage and motivate you to do better. listen and follow his instruction and you will pass. You can study the next chapter before the class for more clearity.
Great Professor!!!! Cares about his students!!!! Class was EASY!!! but he would go off topic and tell lots of stories!!! LOL!!!
his class is boring and he covers the chapters too fast and his English kinda bad i need to sit in the front desk to understand him well
I think he is the best electrical engineering professor you can take at HCC. He has a ton of experience and takes time to explain the core concepts he thinks will benefit you the most for continuing your EE education.
Professor Hsieh is probably the only one at HCC can invite 6 engineers from Shell, Exxon Mobil, NASA, Rice University to be your judges on engineering project (40% of your grade). His class is so inspiring and motivational. There are only 3 tests that you just need to read the textbook to get an A.
Terrible
Straight up terrible. This guy can't teach at all. This is a math class and yet what we do the most is read. He would just "read" through the first 2 or 3 examples and move on to the next chapter. What about the rest you ask, according to this guy, I quote "you can read it yourself." In order for you to pass this class you'll need Jesus or YouTube.
Professor has good intentions and is a nice person. Very bright engineer but NOT GOOD at teaching Cal I. At times he seems like he doesnt know how to solve most problems when lecturing and wings it. His tests are horrible, he doesnt test on the important concepts, rather brainstorms test questions from chapters one class before the test. DONT
I don't understand why the previous reviews speak so negatively of him. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test and where you can find them. I'm assuming the people who gave him a bad review are the people who expected to be spoon fed on how to solve every problem. His class is way easy. Extra credit is given. Easy A if you study.
He is a good professor. This course was easy but he made it interesting. Tests are easy if you read the textbook thoroughly. Gives you a chance to upgrade yourself by telling exactly where you are before the final so you study hard for final. Active Participation in class and group project is the key to getting good grade beside the tests. Enjoyed.
INTRO TO ENGR is a very easy class and this Professor Hsieh is a really great guy. He was an engineer for 30 years so he really gives you an understanding of how the real world engineering career is like. He speaks from experience as well. BEWARE OF GROUP PROJECTS. Just hope you get a good group.
Professor Hsieh is absolutely phenomenal. He has an amazing grasp on circuits, and can break it down for the least common denominator. He hands out lots of extra credit for in-class participation, so passing the class isn't difficult if you study.
ok this is his class Cal 1, he will read the book for you, or he will call one of the classmate read for you, or he will just say, wow this is Cal 1, higher level math and you are adults, you can read it yourselves. He might be a good teacher for MATH 1314 or introduction for ENGR this basic courses, however, if you want to learn math don't takehim
Amazing professor
He makes circuits way easier
He cares about your success, and he helps you whenever you need help.
He's honestly a fantastic professor who's genuinely dedicated to teaching. He's had his years of experience, and he may take some getting used to at the start, but he likes his job and it really shows. Not a ton of homework; just review for tests ahead of time. He's someone who really stands by the idea of what you put into it is what you get.
Dr. Hsieh teaches circuit analysis with clear, simplified language and reinforces key concepts consistently. He gives the general test questions before the test, uses chapter problems, and is generous with partial credit. Professor Hsieh genuinely cares about student success and rewards effort with extra credit. Stories and wisdom are bonus :)
One of my most favorite professors at HCC. He doesnt do only teaching, but inspiring. Impossible to fail his class if you study. Easy A. He gives out a lot of extra credits. His stories are very motivating. He did really good job explaining DC and AC circuit. Awesome professor!
His course in electrical circuits is difficult, yet if you study and show up to class on time and participate you should do well in the class. Be prepared to study and do homework to pass the linear circuits 1 class. He is one of the better college professors at hccs. Very personable and willing to discuss issues and problems in the class.
Great professor if you cannot do well in his class you seriously have problem very inspiring and motivates you he has made me change my major to EE he is very knowledgeable
Professor Hsieh is an engineer. He will inspire you . He makes himself available for students outside class hours. He is caring and approachable. He notice good students and rewards them, as well as struggling students and help them. lots of extra credit. He drops the lowest test too.
The class was basically over the group project overall. I can count with one hand the graded assignments, so your grade is severely affected. If you like to ride through college take it, you do close to nothing.
Harder than I expected. He does not teach so much and just tells you to read the book.
The group project will determine your grade. You should read the book to understand more about Engineering. Also, try your best.
Youre graded over a few easy hws on basics of engr, group project (which is a lot of work, but this is the purpose of this class), one midterm, one final, and attendance. Midterm and final are pretty straightforward. Hes knowledgeable and wants you to succeed. People who wrote him bad reviews are either slackers or in the wrong major. Maybe both.
3 exams, 1 final, 7 labs, weekly homework with 3-5 questions only (he understands everyone has busy schedules and rather you understand the few questions you study), wants you to read ahead since it is impossible to cover everything (it is your responsibility to read so you can follow in class), and gives out tons of extra credit. Caring and clear.
He is not the worst, but he is a little bit hard for the group project.
He is a tough grader in individual paper. The project is the hardest part in this class. Class is boring.
He doesnt teach so much, and youre supposed to know many about engineering. I learned nothing from this class. Buy the book and read by yourself. We did the same thing all the time.
Be ready for the group project. Read the book carefully. HCC does have so much choice for student in Engineering major. Good luck
I really learn nothing from this class. Group project is required a lot knowledge even you are freshmen or sophomore. Data is the most important part in the project.
READ THE BOOK, DO THE GROUP PROJECT. EXPECT YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ENGINEERING BY YOURSELF.
Solid professors. Although we had to teach ourselves the material. Be ready for the group project. Its a lot of work be ready to answer questions. Has a lot of extra credit. Overall good professor but will make u work
He should got 5/5. Easy class. Chilled and knowledgeable prof. EXTREME amount of extra credits can be earned. Tests from sample problems will be went over dozen times. Lab report is a must, but not hard. HW, 3 test, Final, Lab Report. Class availability ran out quickly.
I do not recommend him, but you do not have so much choice for the engineering course.
This professor was so good, gives great feedback and wants the best for you. He truly wants you to pass this course. He assigns homework every week but they are very simple. He gives out so much extra credit. Take this professor for Intro it will be so easy. Will definitely be taking him for Electrical Circuits. One of the best professors in HCC.
By far one of the worst professors I ever had, He doesn't grade work like how a professor should. He only grades you based on how he feels, not on the quality of the assignments. I had an emotional breakdown because of this class because of how unfair he is with grades. Guys DO NOT take this class, he expects way to much just for a 2.0 credit class
Didnt know what to expect since this was an online class, but Professor Hsieh really cares about his students doing well. The homework was a bit hectic but manageable. He is willing to explain anything you have questions about. Great lectures and great class overall.
He is a great engineer but not a good teacher. I did not learn anything from this class. He always picks apart students unnecessarily. He grades based on how he feels or in comparison to someone else's work. For example, he had given someone an A just because their answer was 'long' but another person that paraphrased and cited a B.
Prof. Hsieh is an inspirational professor who teaches out of the box and relates real life scenarios to classroom.
This is a required course for an engineering major, and in it I took one page of notes over the course of my semester with him. You will do ABSOLUTELY nothing during your 3hr lectures every week and you cannot skip them. He will compare you to past and present students, and he only grades based on feelings, especially for essay questions.
The professor is very generous with his grading, if you try just a little you can definetly pass the class. We could use notes on quizes so its simple enough if your paying attention. Overall would take class with this professor again.
Attendance is extremely important, you can't really miss a single day. He seems very strict and is a tough grader, but he is actually very nice and will help you out. Engage in the lectures and show him that you are listening. All the homework problems are from the textbook.
Dr. Jurong Hsieh is an exceptional professor in Engr 1201. His teaching style is engaging, and he encourages students to participate in class activities by giving extra credit. There is one team project at the end of the semester, which is very interesting. He lets students use AI and Google for essay questions if they cite the content.
Professor Hsieh was a great professor and definitely recommended. I took him for an introduction to engineering class, which was terrific. It's a professor who is so easy to ask questions and gives you all the resources he can. Super inspirational and always willing to help, definitely take this professor. You won't regret it!
Honestly, he is hands down the best professor I have ever taken and he gives you tons of extra credit opportunities just make sure to come to class because attendance is mandatory! He is extremely understanding and will explain anything you want and give you advice on anything you need! Amazing professor over all!!!!! Take HIM!
Professor Hsieh was my favorite prof. this semester. He isn't afraid to go off-book with his own engineering experience, which I appreciated. He is a very caring professor who works with students to ensure understanding and success. He teaches other courses, so you can build a strong relationship. His project was open-ended, allowing exploration.
He is a great professor. Very understanding, always willing to hear you out. There is a textbook but it is provided through McGraw Hill. There is one 4 month long engineering project where you have to present and that is about it. Lectures usually last about an hour and he gives a restroom break. Nice lad :)
Professor Hsieh is one of the best Professors I have met on my way to become an Electrical Engineer. Circuit Analysis could be a harsh subject to get around, but Professor Hsieh makes it as simple as possible. No nonsense grading. All straight forward. Do the readings, homework, and book exercises he recommends for each test, and you will be fine.
Generally speaking, he is a nice professor. There isn't much homework. Only 5 chapters have homework assigned to them, and most can be done in about 10 minutes. There is a group project that will take effort. For the online tests, even if you got the answers wrong, you can give him your scratch paper, and he will increase your grade based on that.
He is one of the best engineering instructors at HCC. He always prepared his lectures and inspired students about the electrical engineering profession. He prepared students to become successful electrical engineers and perform well in their chosen branches in the Electrical Engineering field. As a result, many students become successful like him.
He may go off topic sometimes but he will share with you his own working experience so
He may go off topic sometimes to share with you his own working experience so you can have an idea how an engineer job actually function. Only few homework, and be ready for the group project. He cares about his student success and able to help you as much as he can.
He only "teaches" about 30% of the time. A large portion of lectures are just him talking about his experiences. There aren't many homeworks, and they don't take long. The best part of this course is the team project. Just be ready for the writing (a 20 page team paper and individual paper). He lets you use ChatGPT as long as you cite it.
This is one of the most amazing professors I've had. He's very passionate with young generation, so you'll learn many valuable lessons from his professional experiences. Amazing hands-on project using 3-D printer on campus. He also encourages students to join in career & networking fairs outside the class to develop social skills.
He's very enthusiastic with his teaching, with many valuable advice from his professional exp. But need to be active to attend career fairs to build social skills & get plus points. Hands-on project with 3-d printing & presentation is very helpful, at a pro level with industry-standard research paper. He's caring & willing to support when u need.
I took Dr. Hsieh's ENGR 1201 class; overall, it was a good experience. Dr. Hsieh is a nice guy, but he tends to go off-topic a lot. The first few weeks were good, but after that, everything was focused on the team project. While I learned a lot, I didn't learn the traditional 1201 material. He is friendly and accessible outside of class. 8/10.
He is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. He is well-versed in his field of engineering and gives great advice through talks about his experience. Participation is important but will earn you extra credit. He is one of the best Engineering professors in the department; you will enjoy his class!
DR. HSIEH is the best engineering professor at HCC. He explains the material clearly, stays organized, and really cares about student success. He responds quickly to emails, answers all your questions, and offers extra points to help your grade. Highly recommend taking his class if you want to learn and feel supported. YOU WON'T REGRET TAKING HIM!
This is the first engineering-related course that I've taken. Dr. Hsieh is nice and he does care a lot about his students. He listens to your problems and is willing to find a way to help you. Remember to pay attention in class, and be ready for the group project too. Overall, the experience is amazing. Will take his class again!
Dr. Hsieh is a great teacher. He has lots of industry knowledge. This is a great class for students who care about learning about engineering. He is clear about his expectations and anything that you don't understand he will clarify for you. He is not going to do the work for you. I like that about him. Take Dr. Hsieh if you like quality education.
Dr. Hsieh cares about all his students and makes sure we succeed not only in the class but in the real world as well. You only have to do a couple of assignments for homework, which are easy if you read the chapters in the book. You will also have to do a team project, which is also easy. I'd definitely take another course with him.
Easily the best "Introduction to engineer" one could ask for. Shares tons of his experience to you, and ready to answer any question you may have, so ask him! If you're serious about engineer as a career, you will love this class. There is a big group project (your topic) and he will give group time in class so make sure to utilize it.
Professor Hsieh is a highly professional, experienced engineering professor with valuable lessons to share. He made the class easy, offering great help and a light workload (few homeworks, one quiz, midterm, final, and a team project with in-class time). I'd take his class again—he's by far my favorite professor at HCC!
Not a very demanding class, sweet professor that likes to talk a lot, and light homework. We're given a semester long group project that's basically all of our work, and he goes over basically the entirety of what's on the tests/quizzes/final the class prior. Attendance is mandatory but it's really hard to fail, or even get below an A.
Very professional professor with real experiences in engineering field. We had one group project throughout the semester to prepare and present in front of the class. He really cares about how the students will study to become an engineer in the future. His expectations and instructions are clear so students won't be confused. Take this class!
Professor Jurrong Hsieh's Circuits (2305) class is engaging and supportive, especially considering that he holds 2–3 individual check-ins per semester. He also rewards participation with extra credit and provides strong reviews for the finals. If you want to succeed in this class, however, make sure to review his provided examples. A great choice!
For Circuits Lab (2105), the hardest part was keeping up with the lab reports. In total, there are about 6 reports to be written, with each containing 1-4 labs. As long as you have a knowledgeable lab assistant, there is no need to study for the lab--but make sure to read up on the labs prior to attending. Exams are just redos of previous labs.
Dr. Hsieh is very knowledgeable and teaches a grest class! He is very helpful and quick to respond to questions. It was challaneging but he does a good job guiding you through and showing you the support youll need. Highly recommend taking his course, any of them. I will be looking for another of his classes in the future.
The class was easy, and the professor is respectable, as he shares a lot of his experience. You do need to read a lot, though, and there's a group project, so good luck with your teammates. Overall, he's an easy grader, and the tests will be covered thoroughly, so no need to worry.
Dr. Juurong Hsieh is the best teacher I've ever had. His way of teaching engineering is clear, engaging, and inspiring. He makes complex ideas easy to understand and truly cares about his students. I'm grateful for everything I learned in his class and for the impact he had on me.
I can honestly say Dr. Hsieh is my favorite professor thus far in my education journey. He is not the type of professor that assigns textbook readings and has you fill out worksheets to prove you've read the chapters. He shares his personal experiences in the field and cares for your success. The only way to fail his class is by trying to fail.
One of the best professors I've had. Very clear with explanations, organized, and genuinely cares about students' understanding of the material. Makes class engaging and is always willing to help outside of lectures. You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. Highly recommend taking a class with him if you get the chance!
Very easy and straightforward class
I loved this class, the Professor teaches step by step and if you have questions he will answer all of them. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to succeed. He also gives you extra credit when you participate.
Dr. Hsieh is an excellent professor who enjoys sharing his passion for engineering with his students. He is always willing to help students when they need it but expects them to put in effort first. His grading criteria is very clear and deadlines are communicated well in advance. Overall great professor and definitely recommend.
Professor Juurong Hsieh is incredibly dedicated, passionate, and always prepared. He explains concepts clearly, makes the lab engaging, and truly cares whether students understand the material. His review sessions are thorough, and he always goes the extra mile to support us
Professor Hsieh is very caring and provides constructive feedback. If you take notes and follow his instructions, you will perform well on the mid-term and final exams. A group project counts for 30% of your grade, and he also offers extra credit opportunities. I believe this is an easy A class.
The professor is great! He teaches very well during lecture time and is willing to answer any questions you may have.
very good teacher, and he has good background in engineering!.
Professor Hsieh had super well-planned out lectures, and immersed himself in his teachings which allowed for student success and ensured full participation. Grades are solely based on your work ethic and participation, if you listen and focus your attention then you will pass. He's understanding and cares for his student. Wonderful professor! 10/10
He is patient with his students. Making sure his student totally understand the lectures and always gives his experiences
Definitely take this professor , beyond the coursework he gives amazing advice for students involving careers , transferring , and being a better student. He's a really good professor that prepares a strong foundation for you as a student to get ready for the harder engineering classes. Very nice and caring professor as well.
Dr. Hsieh is a very talkative professor. He often tells stories regarding his experience in the industry and gives a plethora of good advice and recommendations. He gives a lot of extra credit based on participation. In addition, he puts a lot of emphasis on punctuality and participation in class. Overall, he's a great professor in my opinion.
