Lots of reading and writing involved. Great person, passionate, easy to approach, understanding and will help you out if you ask her. Recommended if you are willing to put an effort in to read and stay caught up.
She is the worst teacher i ever had. For one thing she doesn't teach a damn thing instead a discussion on politics every day. she also is extremely disorganized and never hands anything back.
okay, so basically I was VERY disappointed with this teacher. For one, she was extremely disorganized and only cared about making a lesson plan on the days that she was being evaluated... BY HER STEP MOTHER! I highly doubt that she would've been hired in the first place if it weren't for the fact that her step mother was the dean of CLA.
This teacher made me LOATH English! She is so disorganized and doesn't know how to teach. I don't understand why she even became a teacher. First, she is always behind on her grading. Second, she never really teaches, she has discussion everyday and so you never really learn anything. I dropped this class because I tested out of it, THANK GOD!
She is honestly the most unorganized person I know, She never seems to want to be there and she never gives clear instructions on anything, I haven't learned a single thing in her class because all she talks about is politics and she makes the students discuss everything so in other words we teach ourselves, do not even think of taking her classes!
3 absences = one full letter grade drop overall
Shes chill.Pretty disorganized and takes awhile to get back to you, but guaranteed C on papers.Read/write a bunch about politics and "privilege" (ongoing theme).LOTS of discussion and stuff, whether class or small group set-ups.Kaelie if you're reading this you should change the 3 unexcused absences rule, PLEASE?It makes your students cry at night.
She did not teach us anything in this class, it was simply read this and write a response. Over and over again. BORING and not worth all the work for not learning anything.
i didn't learn anything from this class!!!! She is a good person, but disorganized, unclear, and she puts a HUGE load on you! LOTS of reading and DISCUSSION on Politics!! Its like debate class. Lots of papers and finding the deeper meanings throughout!
Absolutely do NOT take her. She is nice but what everyone says on here is true. Totally disorganized, NEVER gets your assignments back to you on time, you don't know what your grade is unless you prompt her to tell you and even then, it's not concrete, RIDICULOUS amount of reading and writing, and that BS 3 absence = letter grade drop rule.
wow -- what a bunch of whiners! first, i think kaelie is really kind and works hard to help everyone. second, what do you expect to do in an english class: of course you have to write a lot of papers and read and discuss. politics in an election year also seem important and were linked to the readings. finally, her stepmom is NOT the dean of CLA!!
wow, what a bunch of crap. I had mr.oveson for my english 1111 and for those who had him know how bad he was. Kalie is not any better.Completely disorganized. non-stop papers about the books your reading. The books are painful to read and worse to write about.By far the worst class Ive had at NHCC.If you know how to BS, have at it.Otherwise, AVOID!
it all depends on what you want from your education. if you just want an easy grade, no, don't take this class. if you want to learn something and work hard and think hard, you'll actually get something to take with you for the future. writing a lot is good if you actually want to improve, as is reading stuff that's challenging. that's what i want
Her whole speech and teaching style is too hard to comprehend. esp the words she speak is too broad to understand.
i'm a returning student and so pretty nervous about school again after a long time away, but this class rocks. really! i never knew discussions could be this interesting in an english class
this class rocks!
I thought Kaelie Farrah was a wonderful teacher. The reading was kind of boring, but the papers were easy. She is extremely helpful, and she'll give extensions if you're falling behind. I really liked my experience with her.
If you want to be prepared to write college level papers, DO NOT take this class. I took it last winter when the election was going on and all we talked about was politics; it felt like a civics class. Not organized, and there did not appear to be a lesson plan of any sort. If you want an easy B or A take this class, if you want to learn, DON'T.
Nice lady but her classroom instruction is kind of flighty. Said she had a absent/grade drop policy but very understanding if you go talk to her and actually do your work, even if your gone! Homework wasn't too bad cut classroom time dragged
Pretty ok
Kaelie was very nice and enjoyed being social, however she didn't teach a whole lot of anything. I suppose my grammar and word choice improved a bit, but other than that I didn't learn anything new. Easy class, but you won't learn anything.
She is a Horrible Teacher. Strict. Annoying. Didn't teach anything new.
She is very disorganized. She didn't teach much nor did she give much feedback. She has the class do tons of peer review, which I wasn't to happy about because I'd rather have feed back from the English teacher! I would not recommend her nor take any classes with her again!
Kaelie is the worst teacher ever had in my whole education. I advise you do not take her classes at all.
Kind of ditsy. No feedback for assignments submitted throughout the semester. Lots of hoops to jump through and lots of stuff to do on your own. I didn't really learn as much as I hoped I would.
She was pretty terrible, it took weeks after the due date (which was pushed a few times..) of the next drafts to get feedback to apply to next paper. She's a 'hard' grader, do exactly what she wants you get a C, you have to go beyond...barely anything was graded until after the semester so who knows how beyond you need to go for a A or B..tad fishy
If you do what she wants. You WILL get a C. You MUST go BEYOND the boundaries to get the grade you want. You MUST go so much farther. You WILL be doing some "unnecessary" note takings that must be done outside class. There is nothing to learn in this class besides writing a really strict essay on your own and showing up to class to talk about it.
Don't take this class! She is a bad teacher. I didn't learn anything. And the attendance question really! I'm not in high school. This is a high school level class. You can get an A if you do a lot of extra credit. Also you can turn everything in again. What's the point of doing it the first time she never gives feedback anyways.
She is very disorganized and takes forever to grade. She is strict on attendance and participation. You MUST go above and beyond to get an A or a B in the class, but you will never be surprised by your grade. You have so many chances to get your papers looked at by her, that there is no reason to not succeed.
not organized, graded first paper at end of semester, expects students to understand what she's instructing, and not helpful. would NOT recommend her!
I enjoyed this class and Kaelie. I feel my writing really improved over the course of the semester. The students complaining on here that she's a hard grader didn't really try very hard. I got an A on everything I handed in and she accepts virtually unlimited extra credit so if your not a good writer just write MORE and you can still get an A.
Avoid at all cost. Extra credit is NOT extra, it's mandatory if you'd like an A or B. nothing is graded on time, so you are unsure how much "extra" you'll need to do. Extremely unclear. Does not produce new ideas or concepts.
She has a very unorganized teaching method, but class can be very simple if you make it simple. Unfortunately, in order to keep track of what's happening, you have to ask questions a lot for clarity. Extra credit is not actual extra credit, but mandatory to get a B or A, which isn't tough at all. Decent class.
She's very nice, but I promise you this...she takes forever to give you feedback for your assignments. She too contradicting. She expects you to do all the assignments she assigns you by going beyond her expectation. Yet, she takes 5 weeks to give you feedback on something that was due the first day of class.. smh
Kaelie can be scatterbrained but it's not hard to pass with an A. Yes, there are a lot of pre-writes, but other than papers those are your only assignments. Kaelie's also pretty easy to talk to and is very helpful if you see her during office hours. She'll basically tell you how you can get an A on your paper if you see her outside of class.
WORST TEACHER EVER. Gives a huge amount of homework, tons of reading, papers are long and difficult, not easy understand, not enjoyable to listen to! Didn't learn anything about English. Makes you take notes on EVERYTHING. Spent three weeks reading articles about racism and police brutality. Boring readings and doesn't make anything clear. AVOID!!!
I think she has way too many side projects that take up too much of her time. Needs more focus on students. She takes forever to grade papers. Not organized at all. Expects the best but delivers poor on her end. Class Monday, took her till Friday to post assignments on D2L. Lots of prewrites but that's pretty much the extent of the homework.
She gives a lot of busy work every week. Slowest grader, our first paper wasn't graded for about 2 1/2 months! Gets off topic and goes on tangents all of the time. Is 5-10 minutes late almost every class. Be prepared to write a lot!! We did roughly 6 essays plus a lot of peer reviewing. She does give a lot of opportunities for extra credit though!
The major issue I have with this teacher is that she gets to grading things so late! She also gives lots of busy work in the form of prewrites. It's a lot of work, but she does help everyone with problems and wants everyone to succeed which is great. She just has so many side projects that it takes away from her focus on grading and giving feedback
Do not take her class unless you have no life but life of homeworks that makes no sense. She terriable at grading cause never grade but keep giving assignments. She wants all the student to review and grade each other work. Reallly!!!! How am I suppose to review and grade other students work when Im a student and still at learning stage..??????
I'm going to keep this short. She gives out a lot of extra homework rather than really focusing on the essays. Extra credit really isn't really extra credit. Attendance, you definitely need to be in her class or she takes off points and it honestly seems like a lot of points if you aren't there.
1. Too much pointless homework 2. Takes her forever to grade 3. I didn't become a better writer at all, I also didn't learn much about writing, but I did learn a lot about racism, and diversity (which is great but not why I took an ENGLISH class.) 4. I missed 1 class and my grade went from an A to a B. Don't skip unless you want to fail.
Good teacher, she talks a lot and is extremely opinionated. Get ready to take notes
Lots of homework, didn't grade anything I turned in until 2 weeks after the semester ended. Was more a class on race politics than english.
SO much homework- which is to be expected in a college class. However, she gives no feedback, takes forever for her to grade papers and homework assignments. She also is very opinionated & very unclear when it comes to what she is assigning and her expectations. I missed class once because of a family emergency & my grade went from an A to a B-
She talks about race and society for the majority of the class which is unrelated to topic. Lots of required notes that are unnecessary. For example, re-writing a handout she gave us into our notes, to turn in. Grades assignments super late. Very boring class, which makes you not want to come. But if you skip, your grade suffers.
she gives to many papers and take to long to grade papers, she gives to much homework and waits to tell us when the papers are due to late for us to really have time. if you take this class do not miss or you will fail and she doesn't care if you have an excuse or not if its not good for her your screwed. don't take this class
She is very nice but unorganized and not serious but that made class easy. Spent majority of class ranting about her issues and gave random assignments unrelated to class. She told us we could redo essays for a better grade before the semester ended but she did not grade any essays until the semester was over, which made redoing them not possible.
Do not take this class. She is the worst professor at North Hennepin. I got an A in her class and I would've rather gotten a C in a different class. She assigns so many things without even taking the time to grade anything. A paper we wrote the first week was graded the last day of the semester. She has so many excuses for why she doesn't grade.
Kaelie is one of my favorite professors here. She might not always be the most organized person, but she makes up for that in her attentiveness to good feedback and her willingness to help. As long as you're willing to talk to her and explain what you've got going on, she's very understanding and willing to work with you.
Kaelie is very nice but is a HOT MESS. She gives out so much homework and assigns all these papers yet, doesn't grade anything like literally the semester is over in two weeks and out of all the stuff she assigns only 10% is in the grade book. She spends about 30 minutes to a hour talking about stuff that is literally POINTLESS.
Farrah is the worst professor I have ever had. She is late everyday to class, and always has an excuse for it. But if a student is ever late, she lowers their grade. She waited to grade all assignments till the last week of class. All class time was pointless, her lectures were long and uninformative. I gained nothing but a grade from her class.
She is such a mess. She was always late, a couple times by 20 mins. She seemed to try hard, but took forever to grade and just made excuses for it. There were 3 textbooks for the class, and 2 of them were completely unnecessary. She graded peer review and note taking way too harshly. We never got anything done because all she did was rant.
I'd have to say my biggest complaints is that she takes FOREVER to grade anything. Most of my homework and essays were not graded until the end of the semester (two of the essays weren't graded at all by the required time). The pre-writes she assigned were a waste of time and took valuable time away from essays and other work I had.
Doesn't keep up with grades and doesn't help with making up for things.
Wost professor ever, she does not grade anything until the last week of the semester and expects us to revise for a better grade! How are we supposed to know if we need to revise if we don't know our grade. IF you can't keep up with grading stop assigning so many things. You talk about stressfull times. youre the reason I am stressed.
She's not the best when it comes to grading on time , i had to email her multiple times to grade my assignments which were about 2 months overdue . She has this weird format that all your work has to be submitted in which can be tedious at times and overall i didn't have the best experience in her class due to lack of support and inconsistency.
Horrible dont recommend.
I had professor Farrah for an online semester doing College Writing 1 and I didn't have any issues with it. She is behind on grading a lot of times, however, she makes sure to let you know where she is on that. The semester was mostly writing and not much reading from our textbook. On the zoom review days, professor Farrah was very down to earth
Busy work. Takes points off without giving a reason. One of the worst profs, Ive ever had. Almost made me hate English (my favorite subject).
She doesnt email back nor does she grade stuff. She waits until the last minute
Professor Kaelie gives lots of extra credit opportunities so make use of it if you feel like you did not do well on a paper. She is behind grading, but she grades and gives feedback on what is immediately necessary. If you need advice on your paper, you can communicate with her. Very vibrant and approachable.
Expect all your important assignments to be graded at the last day of the trimester. Expect this class going to stress you out. Expect to get homework that require 12-hours of studying in a week or more. Expect to do extra credit to get B or A. Expect to do peer editing. Expect to not pass without recognizing these expectations.
She will give out loads of assignments and tell you not to procrastinate because you will fall behind and will then wait until the very last day (or even after the semester ends) to grade everything. Even after emailing her multiple times she still did a poor job of grading things on time. She was late and would show up with a bad/mean attitude.
While the work it's self is not to hard, there is are a lot of assignments. It's wise to take this class with other classes that are not to difficult. I took it as an advance class over the summer of 2022 and it was hard to stay on top of with other summer classes. I really liked the professor and I like what I learned in her class!
I think she's very nice, and does care for her students. The real issues I had dealt with was her grading. She graded half of the class assignments at midterms, and the rest at the end of the semester. We had 4 essays (all at different dates) after midterms, so not seeing those graded after the semester was over really stressed me out.
Nice professor, a good grader, and communicates well. However, the workload she will expect from you is way to high. She is slow to grade assignments, especially your papers. Don't take her classes unless you absolutely have too.
She is a good teacher. Lots of little assignments that build up to the seminars. Don't fall behind and ask for help and she is more than happy to help. The only thing grading is very late. Didn't grade my first paper till well after mid terms.
I would never take a class from her again. She is a slow grader, I never received any of my revisions from her before the revision deadlines. She would put a firm deadline for revision assignments but never sent feedback in time. She doesn't answer emails; you have to resend them. Lots of cons. If you can avoid taking her class, do not take it.
She does not grade anything. I submitted a paper on August 30th and it is now October 28th. It is not graded. Not a single one of my many assignments has been graded. The only thing graded is the attendance for the day I missed. An F.
She is respectful of her students but is very nitpicky. The homework does help build up to the seminars but sometimes she gives unnecessary work. Slow on grading and haven't yet recived a grade for my first paper and I can't even improve if Im not given feedback. I think there are like 4 papers in total.
Opportunities for extra credit. Took absolutely forever to grade anything. Rambles, cusses a lot. Constantly said she was too busy with too many students.
Doesn't grade anything until last minute but expects you to be present in every lecture to pass the course. Her lectures are meaningless and repetitive. This is a writing course but she will overload you with liberal propaganda and make you write about it. By far my worst experience at NHCC was taking her course.
there is one week left of the semester and she hasn't graded any of our largely graded assignments, only a few busy work assignments have been graded and she used A.I. to grade them, so if the website said you didn't spend enough time on it you got a worse grade. She also makes us do yoga instead of doing any of the 80 assignments for the week.
She's nice but she graded and gave feedback on a paper 2 1/2 months after I submitted it. It was frustrating because I couldn't use the feedback she gave me on the two papers I submitted prior to that first essay Most of your grade relies on attendance and extra credit, she never grades so you can never see your true grade until after the semester
she's the worst
Sucks. Got mad at me when I asked politely when she was gonna grade stuff, didn't get grades in before semester ended so I never got feedback on stuff. Super liberal and seemed always in a bad mood. Would not take again.
the other reviews are right.. im so upset she doesn't grade anything until the very last week of the class and then has the audacity to say you can change it... if you graded this 2 months ago when you assigned it and gave me this feedback, i would be able to change it easily. now its the end of the trimester i have so many finals + this engl work
Grading takes weeks so by the time feedback is given, all the rest of the assignments are turned in. Mandatory zoom session while she has horrible internet so it kept cutting out. Never got written feedback for my draft paper. Doesn't bother including extra credit in grade even though she offers several opportunities. Email responses take 4 days.
She just talks a lot like a lot. She doesn't like AI at all and to prevent you I guess from cheating she makes you do hammer assignments first then that makes you take a picture of it so you could submit it on D2L. participation matters so much. Register for classes early and get her step mom Prof Heidi Farrah instead I BEG. Kaelie's chill but no.
I would rather take two 8 AM English classes, then to be in one of her one-day classes at any given time. I think she's a nice person, but I don't know about being an educator. she can be a little passive aggressive, and she takes a little long to give feedback. She also talks like a lot, and I mean a lot.
any use of AI is banned so if we're doing in classwork and taking notes that need submission, she makes us handwrite everything and then makes us take a picture of it to turn it in. Overall, I think she's a nice person. But I would never want to be reached by her ever again.
Kaelie was a nice person don't get me wrong, however she talked a lot, like a lot; I constantly found myself zoning out in class. Her grading and feedback took extremely long to get back, even after other assignments had already been submitted. She was a long-term sub for my teacher and had VERY FEW grades in after half the semester went by.
