Cool teacher...just listen and you got it
Very hard online class if you are not extremely self-motivated. Many quizzes, long essays, and hard exams... My friends took same class with Mr. Willbanks; he is SO much easier.
Eager to communicate, but extensive time required to succeed. Tests are the same exact questions you quiz on, but likes essays alot. You WILL know history when you finish, or you will not pass. Takes a lot of time - Fair warning.
Pay attention and take great notes. She is a good teacher, but come ready to work.
This class is fun. This is the only class where I wish the professor will never cancel a class meeting. Dr. Parsons makes history interesting and at the end of the day you hate that the class is over with.
Online class is great!! Just stay on top of things and you will do fine! Research paper is a killer tho!! get started EARLY!!!
Nice teacher. You will learn a LOT in her class. You'll do good if you take tons of notes and study them well for the tests. Tests are pretty hard though and essays are 40% of your grade and are really hard. Only tests as grades which makes it hard. She's very interesting though and knows her stuff. All her lectures are online at paradoxmind.com.
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS!! Some of her emails to the class were rude.
DO NOT TAKE HER INTERNET CLASS!!!! I took it and had to drop it! She is hard and I took it during the summer and she didnt shorten anything!
Dr. Parsons is a great teacher. If you come to class and listen, she tells history just like a story so it's really easy to understand. She also gives us quizes every week and you get to use your notes, those quizes are on the test. Everything on the test, you had to do an assignment for, so you are completely prepared. I would definately recommend
WOW...I absolutely hated this class. This teacher is very hard and her on-line class is even harder. You write essays constantly. If you are a history major than by all means take this class because she is in dept about every detail. If you are not that great at memorization of dates and events...you'll hate it.
Great teacher! If you come to class, pay attention and keep up with your quizzes, you should have no problem getting an A in this class. The test questions come straight from the quizzes. She posts all her notes online, so you don't even have to take notes if you just pay attention. I would take her again.
Took her online. not a hard class if you read the notes and take her quizzes.
I took Dr. Parsons for Hist 1301 online during the summer. While there is definitely a lot of work in a short period of time, it is not hard. It is an easy class if you keep up with the work and study the quizzes on WebCT for the tests. She was very quick about responding to questions over e-mail.
OMG!!!! loved her.... i would tell any one to take her online class i made above a 95 on all my test!! SUPER EASY AND I NEVER SAY THAT!!
couldn't be better you can prepare for a test in 1day the quizzes are exactly the test and she gives u the quiz answers! great class easy A!
Love her definitely recommend her for online course. I learned so much and it was totally interesting.
Good teacher. She gives you all the questions and answers to the mulitchoice questions on the test and tells you the essay prompt in advance. Attendance isn't very important, except that it counts off your participation grade. It is good to go to the lectures and take a small amount of notes bc then you won't have to read for the essay material.
Dr. Parsons is awesome! Her tests are EASY if you take the quizes. Shes super nice and organized! I highly recommend her!
Be ready to read. If you don't do well without a review or some help in preparing, i do not recommend her.
I took her internet class and I would not suggest her. I had a hard time trying to figure out what information she wanted you to remember for the test.
Take her in class, not online. Good teacher that gives you the test questions and answers on the webCT. All you have to do is study those questions. All of the test are that way, including the exam. She's a very nice lady that loves history, but makes it interesting, and not completely boring. I definitely recommend her for lecture!
To pass this class, you must read the chapters before class and take extremely fast notes. Her tests are easy when you have the quizzes, but you only have 3 tests. You must write super fast to take her notes. She just puts it up there and click on the next one. I will never take her again. She will argue back with you too which is funny.DO NOT TAKE!
I took the online course. It was painfully unorganized and difficult to follow. She seems like a nice lady, so this is not personal. The class structure is just not there. I have been told that she is great in the classroom. Maybe that's what I will do next time.
Class was easy enough, and she seemed pretty helpful. I would definitely recommend her online class.
I took the internet course, it is extremely hard. You have to read every chapter twice before taking the tests if plan on making a "B". It was simply read the chapter, take the test. More reviews are needed for the online class. Structure, structure, structure...
This summer online history course is extremely hard. There is nothing helpful from the teacher. It is simply read the chapter and take a quiz. There are no practice quizes, no guides, no power points, no effort on the teacher's part, you have to teach youself. No essay topics,(only when u open quiz) everything is timed 45 min also. Very hard!
this is an online teach yourself class, the teacher has not put in any effort to make a power point, or study guides,or any helpful hints or notes. it's just horrible.I strongly DO NOT recommend
For summer: 3 units, 5ch each, at home online test after ea chapter 45min time limit; 1 essay per unit surprise topic 45 min time limit. Do-able; not easy. baaaaarely escaped w/an A. It was a miracle!!
If you take this teacher you will be sorry.Summer 2- 15 chapters,15 quiz,3 long essays in a group and you have no ideal of the topic untill you click on the essay; oh by the way you only have 45m.There is NO study guilds are outline, notes she dose nothering to help you with the online class...Take someone else in the Fall.
Very easy and understandable. The key is to actually read the text and you will be fine. I would definitely recommend her.
Parsons is really smart and was fun to listen to when she talked about everything in class. However, having a quiz due each class made participation necessary and use of the book extremely important. I would recommend her if you plan on staying ahead.
She requires take home quizzes for each class. Attendance is necessary because of the quizzes. Tests are straight from these quizzes. Can be an easy A if you give the effort. Overall she's a great teacher!
This teacher asked for WAY to much info. Her essays are ridiculous! She was very rude to me when I asked why she dropped me from her summer course after one day of not being able to log in. Her nor the school would help me out.
Dr. Parsons is extremely sweet and helpful. Online classes aren't designed to spoonfeed you with powerpoints; you need to read and make your own outlines (with section headings, got a 100 every time) I'm not the smartest but I did the work and got a great grade, I would take her again. Don't listen to others who complain, she's great, very nice!!
Class was just too difficult, having to write basically super long summaries for each chapter. She seemed very nice, but the workload is just too hard. Got an A, but it took way more homework and study time than any other class I have ever taken. By a lot too.
Do not take! She is not a good teacher at all. Take someone else.
Do Not take unless you like essay's ... and many assignments
Every chapter has an essay and short answer topics. You don't know the topic until you start the assignment and you are timed! Super stressful and ridiculous. Also an essay on every test and you are given the 4 questions it could be. So basically you would have to write 4 essays before every test to prepare for one. She is a super hard grader.
I had Parsons for World Civilizations 1 at UT Tyler. The class was very stressful. We had a quiz for every chapter in the book and a test every other week. Every test was different every time, including the final (a 5-page essay). All we did in class was take notes, which were posted online. But you cant miss class or else it hurts your grade.
She requires you to read and don't show visual methods of learning the material and doesn't let you know in advance on whats going to be on the test and the final exams. She will drain you out of your misery and expect you to figure it out.
Do not take!! she is an extremely tough grader, her lectures are not very engaging. Save yourself!!!!!
She ONLY went over the material AFTER the quizzes. She stressed things that were not on the tests.
Want to receive credit for this course? Research other professors for clarity, helpfulness, and understanding. Her lectures are EXTREMELY tiring and have absolutely nothing to do with test material. Essay questions? Tons! No visual learning (i.e. PowerPoint) have to have the drive to literally teach yourself. No extra credit.
If you read the chapters and take the quizzes, it's easy to pass the tests. You just study the quizzes, and these are the same as the questions on the test. She gives the quizzes online so you can take them more than once, and refer to notes. She gives you the essay ahead of time, word for word, and you can show her an outline. Not easy, but doable
Almost everything comes from the textbook. Get to take quizzes multiple times with highest grade counts. Post to discussion on each chapter. Core work a bit confusing, but that was the rubrick. Be sure and follow directions. Lots of chapters to cover! No power points or outlines. Quizzes are the guide. Study those for the test.
Class was kind of uneven because we didn't use a textbook. She started with lots of current events for the first test, but then we went to Power Points. I took pics with my phone cuz I couldnt write fast enough. But later she would put the slides online to review for tests,. U take your quizzes online so u can use notes. She told us our question.
Professor Kahne Parson's isn't interested in helping students pass her class, her instructions were NOT clear and she had problems with many students. Her words were not kind and she gave no extra credit! She wouldn't pass me even though I needed 2 points. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED!!
I could say a lot of things but let's start by making clear that her course instructions for her assignments are NOT CLEAR WHATSOEVER! She doesn't respect her students and tends to "yell" in her email replies if you question her about an assignment. Her tests aren't all that tough but her essays within are tough, and fails to be clear.
Use flashcards or a flashcard app to remember dates and events and you'll do fine. Test questions are taken right from the quizzes, so be sure to use your quizzes as a study guide.
Only take four major test. Every test has an actual essay that you have to write. She grades the essays like she is an English Teacher. Tells you to study the quiz for the test as a review but none of the quiz questions are on the test. You have to actually read the chapter which is about 90 pages all together. NO EXTRA CREDIT!
We took four exams over the course. Each with an essay prompt included. The prompts were given a few days before the test. However, even if you follow the prompt exactly, she would still find some way to fail you. If she doesn't happen to just like your essays she will most likely fail you on them.
I've never been so frustrated with a teacher. She was good at lecturing when she was actually there.. but unfortunately we never got any clarity on what to study for the test and the times she did tell us exactly what to study there ended up not being any of that material on the test All of her instructions were very confusing and misleading
Over all the class was very easy, as long as you read and are an active you can get a easy C. Its a challenging course for a B and almost impossible for an A. Her online program is great and makes learning the material easy. However her instructions are not clear and she continually changed due dates which greatly effected the outcome of grades.
She was very unclear with her teachings. A lot of the students couldn't understand the material and we had quizzes everyday.
Gave great feedback when you did things wrong, and the tests were fairly simple to understand if you studied the quizzes she gave. We had at least two essays and two quizzes every week for almost two months and that made it very difficult to manage the workload. Eventually she changed it to two quizzes and an essay every other week.
I took Dr. Parsons online for History 1301 and shes a good professor. Get ready to read and write a lot because this course is time consuming. She grades really hard on the discussion essays, which you will have two every unit. Also, theres an essay on each exam too so make sure you study!!! All in all, shes great teacher! Just be ready to work.
I realllly like this teacher! She is really fair & such a good person. 10/10 recomend (I took the online course)
Not good. Many times us students had to e-mail her for clarification on assignments and her responses only made it more unclear. She grades tough and I had to question her grading a few times. There are many discussion essays and very few test. I would not recommend.
This class was very heavy on the work but as long as you completed it on time it was fairly easy to make the grade. I took the class online. Every unit had multiple quizzes for each chapter. The more you did, the more questions you saw (these were the test questions) then for every two chapters you would have a discussion essay. 4 test plus final.
Her instructions were unclear, due dates were constantly changed which greatly affected grades and sabotaged plans for other assignments in other classes. The tests were okay as long as you study the quizzes, however the essays were IMPOSSIBLE to pass. I thought the instructor was cold and did not seem to care about the students.
This professor is very unclear on what she expects for assignments. She grades her essays horribly. The entire time I took this course I was frustrated, because I didn't understand what was expected on the essays or the tests. If you have a chance to take another professor it would be wise.
Be aware that she grades your test essay and assignment essays like shes an English teacher. Most of the essay questions requires you to remember exact dates, events and people. There are usually 4 possible questions for the essay and only one of them is on the test. This is also on top of the multiple choice questions with the test.
Dr. Parsons is a great teacher. She is helpful at giving you pointers on the Essay Question that you attempt on each exam and is there if you need help with anything. Also all of the answers to her quizzes are on Quiz-let. Finally, the people who give her bad reviews are people who just want do the minimum to get by or don't like History at all.
I took her class online so I'm not sure how she is as far as lectures, but she does give you the exams in the quizzes. The quizzes are the exams! The main issue I had was her not giving feedback on why she graded the essay portions the way she did. She communicates well, sending email reminders and such. Overall, a good class online.
Worst professor ever had. She want you to read the whole book and be able to tener we anything she does not give any explanation or any material to help you her quizzes make you grade down because she doesnt take the highest score. She should be getting paid for it because basically you do everything yourself. You dont get any help from her
I took her online and all the due dates were completely messed up, She makes it so difficult to be successful in her class. I had to email her almost every other day about something she had wrong or mixed up. GOODLUCK!!! You can make an A but it is tough. And none of the quizzes are on quizlet but straight from the textbook
Just no.
Worst teacher I have ever taken. When I asked what I can do to try to learn the content better I was told to look at the power point. You are basically expected to read the entire book to pass. She times the quizzes for 40 questions 40 minutes. Not even enough time to try to find the answers. NONE of the quizzes on quizlet. Bet the drop rate is HIG
This is perhaps the worst class I've ever taken. She gives you like 60 minutes for a 60 question test, doesn't give you study guides or any clue of what's going to be on the tests/quizzes, and the lectures look like they were written by a dyslexic middle schooler. I had to drop because even when using Quizlet and other resources, I couldn't pass.
Dr. Parsons is a great history professor if you are looking to learn instead of just memorize the material. You must apply yourself in her course. I encourage students to take her course if they are looking to be challenged.
Take this course if you want to be challenged as a student. You must apply yourself to do well in her course
Turned me off of History for the rest of my life!
the worst professor i've had at TJC. she is not consistent in her due dates, they move around a lot. she also is not quick to respond to questions about assignments. the powerpoints provided do not cover much of the material on the tests and chapter quizzes. her quizzes require two attempts before revealing which questions you got wrong. not a fan.
SELF TAUGHT CLASS . Long quiz/exam with 30sec-1 min time to answer questions. Doesnt allow spell check on test for essays and grades critical on details for essays. Power points are just outline of chapters. Felt like she tried to sabotage grades . Several times assignment due dates were moved just because .Criteria on final changed last min.
I dont understand how she is a professor, disorganized with due dates , underhanded timed quizzes/exams. Self taught online class PERIOD. The positive reviews on her have to be from her. No EFFORT ON her part to actually teaches the class. All exams and quizzes have to be taken twice to have a study guide for unit exams .JUST DONT take her clas
I took online; EXTREME SELF TAUGHT. Exams with NO STUDY GUIDES. I passed all my quizzes, but if you fail an exam.. your grade will drop. I did fail all my exams, but the rest of my work was A's or B's (with a couple C's). I felt no consistency in any of her actual grading and no real feedback to help. She did offer extra credit 3x.
Professor Parsons is very nice. However, nothing in her online class is clear and makes it confusing. She changes dates and shell have you do a Core Assessment Question and lays out exactly how she wants it formatted. I followed that format and she gave me a 68. She highlighted the mistakes. I resubmitted and got a better grade. Confusing class.
Worst teacher Ive ever had. Expect you to read a thousand pages book and memorize everything. Want you to know history as if you life depends of it. I dont know why TJC has such bad professors
Horrible communication to us (students). She changed dates of exams without telling us, and she gave little to no explanation on any of the lessons. 10/10 would NOT recommend.
Professor Parsons is an OK professor. For teaching a class that is mandatory for a lot of degrees, she does good. She does change up the due dates a LOT and they sometimes fall on times that are inconvenient for you, but if you message her or talk to her, she will extend the due dates, which helps a lot. Overall she is ok, not the best, not worst.
I have nothing good to say about this professor. Unfortunately, I do not have the option of dropping this class. At the time as a freshman straight out of high school I did not know about this website. THEREFORE TO ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS PROFESSOR HEED, MY WARNINGs DO NOT LET YOUR ADVISORS GIVE YOU THIS PROFESSOR THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS.
She loves to talk about herself. On the first day of class, she spent 40 minutes talking about herself and barely talked about the syllabus. She goes so slowly through presentations and complains about how we're falling behind. This class made me hate American history.
Has many Typos in PowerPoints. Lectures are really boring. We are currently 2 weeks behind and our final is in a week and a half. Gives very vague instructions that are sometimes really hard to understand.
