This teacher is by far the WORST teacher i have ever taken. Her whole life is microbiology and in the class you would probably spend hours and hours a week on homework and studying and still not get a decent grade. If you dont want to ruin your GPA and waste your time then do not take this class!
Attend class and be prepared to write! Important to review notes and homework before tests! This class is NOT easy. Be prepared to work hard and read the book. She is willing to help you if you ask for it. If you don't study you will not do well, and even then good luck recalling everything you read. Quizzes are stressful! Good Luck!
Lotta pita work. 10 pgs of notes ea. class, qzzs, hmwk (essay ?s), group work, research paper & presentation. The online stuff was ok, but you never get the handwritten hw back graded in time for the exam. If u r wrong & it ends up on the exam, you're screwed. No scantrons for exams, written tests. Not really helpful, u stuggle. Don't take her
Instructor goes out of her way to make this class difficult. The amount of work is equivalent to a graduate course, but she tells you that it shouldn't take you more than an hour to do your reading, or more than 9 hours work all week. Not possible. Make sure you're an Ace when it comes to essay questions. Nitpicky rules.
Alot of busy work...tests are like final exams and very picky about essay questions.Only willing to help if persistent and attend office hours...very time consuming...don't take her class...grade point dropper for sure!
Let's not forget that this field is not the easiest to teach and/or learn and that to get it you wil have to put in effort. I haven't seen anything wrong with the class here and no I'm not getting As and Bs. It's just complicated stuff you have to retain geez.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHERS CLASS!!! If you are looking to get a B or higher, it is almost impossible and I am a very good student. Her grading is hard and sometimes unfair, she is not sympathetic toward any circumstances. She does not curve or give extra credit, her tests are hard, especially the last two. Take any teacher BUT HER!
3 hours of class, 9 hours of studying, that's what it takes here unless you know a lot of the material from high school. We went through 19 chapters in 8 weeks and they were all tested.
Worst unexperienced teacher ever.Mixes up lectures between classes, has a horrrible grading scale. Also horrible at formatting tests. All over the place with lectures.I am an A student EXCEPT for this class,it will lower your GPA no matter how hard you try.Take someone else!
This class is very interestng, however, very uneasy quizes and exams. You have to study a lot to get at least a "B". Ms.Guzzi presents the material without any notes or slides. She will always answer your questions during the lecture. Good luck!
Outstanding instructor in Anatomy. Study hard and you will do well.
Ok, everyone saying shes too hard is crazy. DO YOUR WORK AND STUDY and youll be fine. Shes funny and I actually LEARNED something here. Its really interesting and all you haters just didnt do work.
I am a very good student going into nursing at a university that took this class at OCC this summer. Although I ended the class with an A, Professor Guzzi was not very helpful and was HORRIBLE at grading exams and papers in a timely manner. She could care less if you pass the class. Take another professor if you must take Microbiology at OCC!
She is a difficult teacher but in the end you benefit greatly from it. She tells you exactly what you need to know and is always very helpful to those willing to put the time into the class. I enjoyed the class because it challenged me and I believe it really prepared me greatly for future courses.
I took Microbiology last Winter semester at OCC with her as my teacher. She scared me on day one. Lots of work and lots of studying went into this one. She gives you opportunities to redeem yourself. I did poorly on an exam, and a few quizzes. Ended up studying hard, got a 98 on the final and an A in class. Worth it and learned a lot!
Really good professor for Biodiversity and Ecology, especially considering she has a micro background. Very Helpful in labs. Read every resource she gives you, and you know exactly what she's looking for from homework/essay questions. If you read the book and study, it is pretty easy to get a good grade
Many people in my class didn't like her and we ended up with about nine people taking the final, but I loved her. Everything on the tests and quizes came right from the notes. You get a chance to boost your grade with a paper and a presentation on Microbes. She likes essays so be prepared. Study and take notes and you'll be good.
She wasn't helpfull at all. Did't even know who I was when I went to go talk to her about my paper and there were only 11 kids in my class by the end. Lectures all class and writes on board. expect to take alot of notes. She expects you to be an expert on this stuff. Worst teacher I have ever had in my life.
She is great. In order to achieve the grade you actually have to work. She gives a quiz every week over the notes from the week before. She takes questions from the quizzes and they go directly onto the exams. She also uses blackboard to give out homework from the textbook.
She is a very bright person, and obviously science is her passion, however teaching is NOT! She is very short tempered and gives no feedback. She passes the homework back 4 weeks after her tests so its useless, and she NEVER shgows you your test after you take it or goes over anything from the tests. Be expecting a drop in your gradepoint.

The Class was not too bad and you can tell that ms. guzzie is very passionate about sxience. But she would not hand back tests at all.So nobody would know what exactly they did wrong.Unless you meet with her during her office hours. And she did not passes quizzes back for at least 2 weeks. She Almost never gave the students enough time for labs.
She is a wonderful professor and really knows what she is talking about. She is more than willing to help you out before class. She is not an easy A but your hard work will be rewarded!!
Great teacher, she can b rude and short temp.! She's worth taking, it is very interesting. Quiz r handed back next class, Exam grade maybe 2 weeks l8er. All the answer's from the quiz and the homework r on each Exam; Exams are easy! I failed the majority of the quiz's but did great on the exams. Labs are fine, her class was enjoyable!
She knows her stuff. Just stay on top of things and you will do good
She really knows her bio. Just keep up regularly and you will do good.
Professor Guzzi really loves her science. She is very helpfull, too. You can learn something, if you do some work. Not a blow off class.
I wish all Prof. could pick up on Prof. Guzzi's teaching style. She gives excellent notes & drawings for more clarity. She asks several times if more understanding is needed on a topic before teaching the next one. I had her for Life Science also. She is the best teacher. An easy A if you do HW & study notes & quizes.
She wasn't helpfull at all! I've never had some many problems with one professor in my life. she cannot teach and she hates students so she is never helpful and likes to screw people over.Lectures are useless, tests ask random questions!Very difficult and confusing exams. Lacking clarity in explanation.Im just so glad this class is over!
worst teacher ever, never take life science with her. does not explain the material well never reviews from what you learned the day before and expects you to know the info the minute she teaches it. her tests are impossible to pass and you wont find out your grade on the exams 3 weeks after you take it. this class was a waste of time.
Prof Guzzi is well equipped to teach Bio. Her teaching method is well thought out and organized. reading, studying and attendance a must. Highly recommend if you want to learn or need to go on on bio. She is full throttle from 1st class.POOR FEEDBACK ON EXAMS AND PRACTICALS 2-3 WEEK WAIT FOR EXAM GRADES. ONLY ALLOWED TO REVIEW EXAMS IN OFFICE HOURS
Her class is hard, if you expect an easy A you will not find it here. BUT she is an excellent teacher who teaches with superb clarity. Tests are difficult but multiple choice and t/f sections come Word For Word from quizzes and HW. She is a tough grader on essay portion. I received an A, but it took a lot of work to earn it.I highly recommend her.
Prof. just knows how to run a class.
Bio is obviously her life. She makes you feel dumb when you ask Qs in class. She jumps around & teaches different concepts than book. Quizzes every week w/ tricky wording. Homework is easy. Won't get exam or practical grades back for 2/3 weeks. I don't mind having to work hard, but I shouldn't feel like I need an SI for Bio1511. Not recommended.
Professor Guzzi knows her stuff and her teaching method is very clear. I learned a lot and found that when I kept up on the work and studied my notes, I did fine. When I didn't, it was reflected in my grades. I found this prof perfectly pleasant and willing to help with anything I asked.
Professor Guzzi teaches a challenging class, but it is definitely do-able. You have to read the material and show up, and not be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand a topic. She is considerate of her students, very helpful if you ask for it, and gives you all the tools you need to get an "A." Top notch teacher. Enjoyed this class.
This was my first science class since 2002. I had to study a lot but you can do well in this class if you are willing to put in the time. I went to her office hours regularly for help/clarification and I found Prof. Guzzi to be very helpful. She seems to recognize, appreciate, and reward those who are dedicated and serious about the class.
Ms. Guzzi was very nice and very helpful. Although the class material itself is difficult she understands and therefore teaches it very well. As long as you take notes and pay attention, you will be fine.
Professor Guzzi knows what she is talking about when it comes to science, but she isn't good at helping students understand it. She expects you to know the material before she even goes over it. When you ask questions, most of the time she looks at you like you are dumb. I do not recommend her as a teacher.
She is an awesome teacher!! I can tell that she really loves science and really knows what she is talking about. She draws really good pictures to make things more clear, and she always triple checks to see if anyone has any questions before she moves on. Not the easiest class, but she is VERY helpful when you ask for it.
Professor Guzzi is extremely knowledgeable about her subject, but very unapproachable and condescending. She doesn't give tests back in class, you have to go to her office to review your test. There is a ridiculous amount of material covered for each test. Take another proff for this class.
I was half way through the class before I knew how I was doing. She gives you the grade for your exam weeks after you take it and makes you sit in her office with her if you want to see your test. It was very uncomfortable. She is very condescending and none of my classmates or I every wanted to ask questions because she'd make you feel stupid.
She is a fine teacher. I have to admit she does give off the sense that she is smarter then you, but she's very knowledgeable, and I don't think that anyone should fret if they end up in her class. As long as you do some light reading and mash the lecture notes into your brain all will go well. The class is pretty easy. Biology with KG is GOOD.
This Professor is very smart with that being said she makes you feel stupid anytime you ask a question and gives major attitude when a student is trying but simply might just struggle with science. Quite frankly im disgusted. I have always enjoyed and respected my teachers. I do not mind working for my grade but i do mind being underminded. Awful
Mrs. Guzzi's Bio class was not easy at all! Honestly, take Bio 1511 first if you have not taken Bio since high school. Look over the quiz questions and memorize your notes from class. Make lots and lots of note cards. Don't stress out too much, good luck!
Don't take this professor. Although she understands the material very well, and is very knowledgeable, she is no professor. Numerous questions on the tests/quizzes are very ambiguous, and often tricky. If you don't keep up with the material as well as read ahead, you WILL fall behind. Awful return time for tests, and grades hardly ever updated.
She is a very smart professor but does not know how to teach. I did not know my grade until halfway through the semester. She is very unapproachable and makes you feel stupid when you ask questions although she tells you to ask questions. Labs are very long and drawn out. You barely have time to clean up.
I think she is an awsome teacher. I will be taking her other bio classes next semester.
Very unorganized. She is incredibly scattered in her lectures which makes taking legible notes almost impossible. Does not answer questions from students she does not like, instead she yells at them in front of the class and humiliates them. Would not recommend at all if you want a teacher that will help you get through the course.
By far one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She has such an attitude and is extremely unapproachable. Her work load is ridiculous and you fall behind easily. Would not recommend AT ALL.
I honestly thought she was great. Definitely not the easiest but she is very well organized. She does drill into you that you must study and take notes. Again, if you don't intend on studying, why are you in college anyway? I recommend that if you want to walk away with understanding of the material, take her! You'll be thankful you did!!
She knows her stuff, lectures are all over the place, and doesn't tell you what to expect on upcoming exams. It was very intimidating to approach her regarding the course.
I'm the type of student that loves every teacher. Guzzi isn't a bad teacher conceptually; she is really good at going over information and giving okay notes. THE PROBLEM with her, however, is that she makes you feel belittled and not-worthy. If someone gets a wrong answer, she looks at them very pitifully. She's not approachable in any sense.
All I can say is I've never seen a professor of her sort! She knows her material butttttt doesn't deliver it in a manner where students understand and are confused and is afraid to ask questions because she takes away points for asking questions if she has already answered it. DON'T take her class!!!!!
Worst teacher I've ever taken. Didn't learn anything and never understood what was going on in lecture. Absolutely awful and unapproachable. DO NOT TAKE!
I had issue with her not explaining the final project to us causing us to redo it 2 hours before it was due because we did it on the wrong subject. She has a very stuck up attitude towards students. Other then that, the class is fairly easy. The questions on the quiz's are exactly the same as the exam questions. Just study from those.
The class was very hard. If you do not study all of the time or know a lot about biology you will struggle. The tests are very hard and she is unclear. If you ask her for help she is not open to answering them and tells you to look in your notes. Quizzes every Monday and exams are so hard. Lots of written questions. Get out of the class!!!!
Not an easy class if you're lacking a science background. Reading the text book and taking notes is a must. Do not ask any questions that can be found in the syllabus or on d2l. She's not the most approachable person and that is discouraging. You'll have to work for your grade, but isn't that the point of education?
Prepare for unclear directions when it comes to the practical, you have 30 min to to all of the station questions along with extra questions on the back. She was unclear about this when I took her so when the time was up I thought I would have time to work on the extra questions but she wouldn't let me and was very rude, she makes you feel stupid.
class is pretty tough. as tagged, if you skip classlectureslab, you will not pass. she takes her time grading exams and practicals, you have to wait approx 2 weeks to find out. weekly quizzes and weekly online homework. but quizzes are all from lectures so take good notes!
Worst Bio teacher i've ever had. Had to take her twice and still didn't pass because of the lecture grade. I did great in Lab. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Amazing professor! Prof. Guzzi does her best to help her students succeed. If you do your homework and actually read the pre-lab, and study, you'll pass. She explains the material very well during lecture, and always willing to explain more to help you understand and test only on what she lectures on. Wish she taught everything!
She is my favorite science teacher! All you have to do is show up and take notes in the class. You can fail almost all of the quizzes in the course and just take those and the notes to study for the tests and you'll ace them! All the questions are word for word fro notes and quizzes and ec is given at end of each test. Lab is detailed but worth it!
I haven't taken biology in over 10 years. I put in the work she required (it was stated clearly, but a big workload). If you do the required work and actually try, you will get passing grade. Very intelligent and extremely knowledgable about the subject, which can make her intimidating and unapproachable by some students. Ask questions, it helps.
I took the class twice and didn't pass. I am taking it again in summer 1 NOT with her. She is very rude and the tests are hard. I recommend you not take her.
People give her a bad rap but I have never had a better understanding of biology. She is an honest to goodness biologist and seeing her passion for it really inspired me. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
She is a good biologist and is obviously passionate about it, but she doesn't seem to care at all about teaching. She won't answer questions that she deems to be stupid and gives ridiculously difficult tests.
This professor felt unapproachable, hard grader, it seems like she wants you to fail. I did not learn anything in this class.
Listen. She is a terrible teacher. I've never worked so hard to barely pass a class. She doesn't care about her students. The counselors told me that they recommend students not to take her course. STAY AWAY. She takes points away from students for asking what she thinks are stupid questions. That's just wrong.
The worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I'm very interested in learning about Biology. But having a teacher who DOES NOT like teaching makes it a challenge. She is the rudest professor I have ever encountered. Maybe if she spent less time drawing and more time helping her students half the class wouldn't have dropped. If you are reading this, DROP HER CLASS NOW.
If you allow her, she WILL make you feel stupid. On the second day of class she told us if anyone asks a "stupid" question she would mark us down... Every time I leave her class I feel mentally drained. I've never tried so hard to BARELY pass a class.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Biology is great, she is a horrible teacher. TAKE ANYONE ELSE, BUT HER! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.
I'm not a fan. She marks points down for "stupid questions". Tests are hard. You must study for the tests. A quiz once a week. I would not take her class again
If you do not study or pay attention in class, it is a living nightmare. However, if you actively participate (i.e. taking notes, do pre-lab work, etc..) you will be fine. Yes, she tends to bit a monotone and yes, there ARE stupid questions. But her lectures are crystal clear and she's always ready to answer your questions.
Alot of people give her a bad review. However I am an adult and If I dont understand something I do not whine about it. I figure it out. We arent in high school anymore where teachers hold your hand. If you're looking for someone to baby you take someone else. All I did was rewrite my notes from lecture and I received an A.
Altogether, Guzzi is a good teacher. Her lectures are pretty boring, but she is very knowledgeable. She can be intimidating at times, but she is there when you have questions (usually). You do have to work for your grade, expect to study alot. Keep your quizzes! use them as study guides for the exams. Also don't be afraid to ask questions.
I'm by no means a perfect student but this was by the far the worst instructor I've ever had. She made me feel extremely stupid in lab when I asked for help. Tests are tough. In fact, the way she grades is extremely tough. Stay away from any class offered with her as the instructor.
Mrs. Guzzi is impossible. Her notes are all over the place, skimming over the book jumping from chapter to chapter. She does not explain, or lecture, simply rewrites the book for you completely, and 100%, out of order. Do not raise your hand for a question in this class, unless you are prepared for an unnecessary, sarcastic response.
Prof. Guzzi is intelligent and knows this subject like the back of her hand but her lectures are rushed and you cover WAY too much material each lecture. Her tests are tough and also cover way too much material at once. This class IS difficult and if you're a full time student, there's no way to have enough time to get a good grade in this class
I would highly recommend not taking BIO with Guzzi, I failed her class and there was no help when asked. It was very hard to approach her if you had a question. Tests were VERY hard, no study guides, no guidance, no nothing. I had to retake biology with a different teacher and ends up getting an A.
Gave weekly quizzes. There's online homework which is due before class. Tests take questions from the online homework & quizzes, so I printed the HW and it helped. Lectures were very clear and you are only tested on what she covers in class so it's helpful to show up. Lab was very clear and she explained everything well. Liked her a lot.
I have no idea why everyone rates Ms. Guzzi so poorly. I struggle with science and this was my absolute favorite class and professor I have ever had. She does not give you "surprise" quizzes mentioned in other comments.. you have quizzes weekly but she always told us what day. I LOVED THIS CLASS. Just pay attention and take good notes. She's great
Her quizzes are a good study tool for the tests and remember to actually read the instructions and read them thoroughly. She may seem tough and intense but if you actually put in effort and go see her for help she is awesome! It was one of my favorite classes.
Very helpful to students, if you take thorough notes and actually study, you will do well. She is very knowledgeable and is very clear during office hours. She comes off as being tough, but actually really wants the best for her students. She pushes you, but will assist you along the way, she won't hold your hand because you're not in high school!
AMAZING! I've never had such an amazing professor. I am a visual learner and her style of teaching was perfect for me. I wished she taught all the Biology classes!
I am a 4.0 student; this class broke me! The material is hard, yes, but I'm a heavy studier and still had a hard time in this class. She seems like she wants to help, but when you ask a question she gets all huffy and irritated. She's very knowledgeable but is not great at teaching the material. Flies through it, gets annoyed when it doesn't click.
Guzzi is very intimidating, but as you get to know her, you see that she is really nice. You really need to be devoted to take this class. If you don't read the current chapter each week prior to class, you will be very lost. If this is your first semester of college, I recommend only taking one other class besides this one.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR BIOLOGY. This professor makes the course much more difficult than it has to be. No study guides no extra credit and incredibly unorganized with notes and lecture. She barely follows the books and barely follows her notes. I've never had a professor give such little guidance to her students and teach so little on test subjects.
Very stern/aggressive teaching style, you'd better be ready to dump several hours a day to studying to even stand a chance. She's very passionate about what she teaches, but expects you to be as well. Next to impossible to approach due to her extremely intimidating/belittling demeanor. Don't take this class even if your life depends on it.
As long as you take notes and actually read through them and study you'll get an A. Have one notebook that you write things down in lecture, and then rewrite them after because she does jump around a little bit. She has so many office hours that it would be hard to not get extra help. She is one of the best biology professors I've had.
Attendance is not mandatory but if you skip you will be very behind. I didn't take advantage of her many office hours until towards the end of the semester and I regret not getting help before. She can be tough, the exams are tough and you need to plan your time out for this class. Challenging class, it is not easy. Preferably for health majors.
Very hard class.
This was the hardest class with this professor. This professor doesn't really care whether you pass or fail
I see reviews saying that you gotta be devoted to the class to pass, but why should we? I took this class for transfer credits, not to be a biologist, and yet I feel like I'm in a Harvard course on biology. There's no way I should be expected to sink this much effort into one class to barely pass when I have others to take care of and study for.
aweful! AVOID!
Professor Guzzi is one of the best professors I have ever had. She inspired me to switch my major from liberal arts to science. I had her for bio 1511 & 1530. I received an A in both. I have found that professors as informed as professor Guzzi, are a rare commodity. If you study the quizzes and the lecture outlines you should be fine.
Have a 4.0 you wanna keep? Don't take classes with Guzzi then. I've never worked so hard a class that claims to be 'for non bio majors' just to fail. Tests are mostly convoluted questions meant to confuse you like she wants you to fail. She's a good biologist, but bad teacher. Take bio classes with a different professor to save your GPA and sanity.
unbelievably hard class with guzzi... so much information you needed to know for tests, and lectures droned on with so much piled up notes to take. took bio1511 with a different professor and passed with 92%. doesn't seem to realize this is a community college and not Harvard. GE courses should never be taught with professors like her...
Professor Guzzi was fantastic. She did not offer power points but she wrote everything out on the white board so be ready to take notes. The nice part is that whatever she lectured on or put notes on the board for was all she tested on. Nothing extra from the book. I never used it. She gives quizes daily but a quick read through of notes works
I have been an A student, with the occasional B for as long as I can remember. I am failing this class. Assuming this was an introductory class, I thought it would be interesting and something different from the string of math classes I have been taking. She is very intelligent but truly unhelpful. She belongs anywhere but in a teaching position.
Professor Guzzi was great. She runs a pretty stern classroom but is very clear on how you need to act to succeed. She only tests on material she covers with her lectures and amazing handwritten notes on the white board. This class is pretty time intensive, but if you take good notes and go over those notes, you will do great.
Guzzi is a GREAT teacher. She teaches this class like it's taught at university. She is CRAZY tough, but if you look hard enough you can see it's because she is passionate about the subject, and wants students to receive an amazing education. I have a BA already and out of all the teachers I have ever taken she is the one I respect the most.
I didn't have a problem with her or the class but studying is required and she will answer questions immediately through email. She made lecture fun and lab was always well organized most of time was able to leave early.
Had her last semester and I felt she was awesome all of her quiz questions are on the exams so use them as a study guide and was an easy A just have to work for it.
Great overall professor. Has her quirks that she is picky about just like any other professor but not bad. With studying an A is very manageable and a B should be a cakewalk if you actually show up and care at least a little.
Terrible professor. Is not kind at all. The entire semester is full of curveballs. She isnt very compassionate about teaching. She makes this course way too intense for an INTRO TO BIO CLASS AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE, THIS ISN'T HARVARD.
She does not know how to teach. She does not have patience inside the classroom but outside, like one on one, she is nice. Almost seems like she does it to look though. She takes points off of minimal things. I never had a problem with Biology but I struggled in her class. IF POSSIBLE TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!
Quizzes every week use them to study for exams. Group work, pre-labs, hw, and post-lab Q's (do them after labs so that you are not trying to do it the night before it is due (at the end of the semester so don't procrastinate)). Don't ask stupid questions she hates it and expects you to know a lot for an intro class. Exams are tough.
Her lectures are very confusing because she draws on the board and will erase parts while students are taking notes. Goes over material extremely quickly with very little insight to how it connects to previous lessons. She can be a huge stickler for grades.
Prof. Guzzi is difficult, but she is knowledgeable. Her lecture notes are informative. Quizzes every week, use them to study. If you know how to study, you will pass. If you miss class, you're a chapter behind. Her notes are worth going to class. If you're taking Bio for career in science, then you will learn a lot and it will come in handy later!
Prof. Guzzi is a great teacher, willing to answer bio questions during office hours. I am a older college student, so participate and engage in lecture and you will do fine. Weekly quizes are note based and keep you on track, they are a good prelude to Exams. You could technically do poorly on every quiz and still get an A in her class. I Loved Her
Not a very respectful teacher. Does not take criticism very well. She will make you feel stupid when you ask questions. I would not take her class again even though I got a B.
All I can really say is if you're familiar with the material already you should be OK. But myself as an older student that graduated in 2004 , when I asked for help she simply told me that this was a high school level class and I should know this. She's very disorganized, not friendly. If your stuck with her good luck.
Really tough class, you have to study and have time to focus on this class. She provides enough things that one assignment wont effect your grade all that much but does not offer extra credit and is a stickler for grades
I never had this professor, although I was trying to get help from my other professor who was a nightmare as well. This prof emailed me and told me that I wouldn't be able to do good in anatomy when I've never even spoken to her. I took nursing at a technical campus in high school. she seems really mean! my other professor missed grading my work.
Do not take this class!! , the overall subject isnt hard but its how she grades the exam and how the questions are worded is hard, she gives no study guide but says the test is on everything we learn for the past few weeks,do not take her u will fail or need to drop the class , LOTS of hw, Good luck passing this class with her bc it wont happen
This is not a teacher.. she knows her stuff but is not willing to teach and help when needed. By far the worst experience I have ever had and I've never met someone who seemed to hate their job more. She has no personality and was not very nice especially when I missed one class for a family emergency and she graded me unfairly. HORRIBLE
Not nice. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Grades unfairly. Very hard tests. A lot of outside homework making it hard to study. She has no compassion and seems to hate her job. Shes not a friendly person who is willing to help and her class felt more like Harvard than a community college. Lots of studying and still wouldnt do well.
When I fist met her I thought it would be a awful class. As the semester went on I realized that she is so focused on actually teaching and helping student get prepared for future classes. If you want to pass this class you need to work for it, but in the end you will learn so much especially if you are going into nursing.
Lots of busy work. There was a quiz every other class. The lectures are heavy so you will be taking lots of notes. As long as you study all the notes from lectures you should be completely fine.
If you dont show up for lecture youre not going to pass, period. Shes difficult.
She is awful! She doesnt make it easy for you to understand even though she knows what shes talking about. Everyone told me not to take her and I did anyways, and I REALLY wish I hadnt!
Do not take her class unless you absolutely have to!! Ive always been a straight A student and I got a C in the class. Not hard material it is how she teaches! Disorganized and harder than it has to be. This should not be an intro class! Be prepared to study and read a lot, it felt like I was self teaching the whole semester.
Really hard professor!!! Went home everyday after class feeling stupid thinking I wasn't trying hard enough, but her expectations are wild for an entry level bio class! Tons of notes, homework, and info to know for tests. I can't imagine how many high school graduates were demoralized to college by taking her in their first semester like me. Avoid!
Probably the worst professor youll ever have at OCC. Only take her if you absolutely HAVE to take her but even then.. good luck. Shows no emotion, acts as if the class isnt a community college gen ed course, and isnt approachable for help; shell make u feel dumb. Definitely avoid her if possible. Knows her stuff but cant teach it. Not worth it
The class itself is average, maybe a little demanding considering that this is a community college intro class but that's common and knowledge doesn't hurt anyone. The problem is that she's a garbage human being in general. She's like twitter in human form. Stick to what others have suggested below: only take the class if you have to.
I worked hard met her before class she was never willing to help me. Rude unhappy person she also graded me unfairly and had to meet with the dean! Take this class with Mrs. Drumm I got a b+! Guzzi has a 70% drop and fail rate DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
This class was put online. She has been extremely rude, especially with students trying to reach out to get extra help. Added in extra credit for free only to threaten to take it away if you ask her a question she deems unnecessary. Basically teaching yourself the course all alone. Wish I had check here before signing up.
Out of every teacher Ive had at Oakland community, she is the worst teacher Ive ever had! Going from in person to online was terrible, shes rude and a unhappy person, test are super hard. Majority of the questions on the test we didnt even discussed so make sure you read your book, 10/10 dont recommend her, if I could give a 0 I would.
I can't believe how horrible she was. She made me feel so stupid this whole time. She would give us study guides and then nothing would be on the actual quiz/exam from the study guide. She gave us 10 extra credit points then would take away one for each question we asked. That's your job!! Sat in tears over how horrible of a professor she was.
worst professor you will ever have. Will try to fail you. Takes away extra credit points if you email her questions. Nothing on her review guides are on the tests. If you want to pass BIO 1511, take a different professor! Worst experience ever!
This is the worst professor I have ever had, I had an incident where I missed a practical because I had to rush my pet to the vet that morning of course, explained to her the situation and even gave her proof like she ASKED and she never even answered me after! She is so unprofessional and seems like she just wants you to fail its a joke.
Yo she was straight up awful this dirty little woman doesnt know how to teach and cant respond to her students. I would never take her and she is actually the worst prof Ive ever had
This is my first year of college and all I can say is this is the worst class I've ever taken in my entire life. This teacher is not willing to help at all and is so rude. She does not have any zooms and she posts lecture videos which are so bad and makes the tests super hard in such little time. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Im not kidding when I say this... I cried more from this class than I did when my dog passed away. If you care about your mental health and your sanity, don't take this professor.
One of the worst professors Ive ever came across during my college career. Shes very rude, condescending, irritable, and unwilling to help her students. If this is your first year please dont take her youll regret it! I wish I could of saw this website sooner!
Worst professor EVER. She's rude, inconsiderate, lectures are long and not helpful when it comes to Quizzes and Tests. She gave us less than a minute per question on the MT and the Final. SUPER hard to pass this class. No extra credit offered. Also, did I mention that she is RUDE?
This is my first science course and she made it one of the WORST experiences ever. She threatened to take away points if you email her to ask her questions. The amount of time given on quizzes and exams was insane, didn't give enough time to read the question and answers thoroughly. Quizzes were given weekly. NOT RECCOMENED
Im a freshman and it was hard enough for me to make the switch to online school in the first place. Kaitlin Guzzi is easily the worst teacher I have ever had. She is very rude and completely ruins your mood every time she talks to you by making you feel stupid. Her tests are all timed and super short and contain content we didnt cover in class.
Was the absolute hardest class Ive ever taken. its an intro class! Said she was giving us bonus points only to take them away when we emailed for help. I messed up on my midterm (something very simple) and she didnt let me fix it. Very limited time to do the MT, Practical, & final. Do not take her class, youll regret it!!
If it's a glitch in the system, she will not correct your grade! HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! And she's never available.
I was very dubious about all of Katelyn Guzzi's recent reviews because I've had online professors with very bad reviews that I liked a lot. This professor really screwed up teaching this class. If you want to learn Biology, take Physics, or Chemistry online. Do so at another university. Oakland Community College has mediocre science professors.
Shes horrible to interact with. Rude responses and shes unprofessional.
worst professor I've ever had. always rude, gives ridiculous quizzes and gives no time to do them. DO NOT take her class.
K. Guzzi is exactly what is needed for community college level physical science professor. Very clear grading criteria, do all the work and take notes, don't forget any weekly work. Tests are difficult because there are a lot of trick questions, and there is not much time to complete the test. You won't get an easy good grade, as it should be.
I have nothing against putting in work to earn my grade. However, when that work is put in I expect the professor to also put in their fair amount of work to assist the students in succeeding. This professor does not. Her class is set up for the students to fail. Good luck trying to get everything done on time during her ridiculously short quizzes.
I had her for Bio when the pandemic struck. I wasn't prepared to be fully online, and depended on my 5 year old laptop to carry me through the semester. During our first online exam, my computer froze and dumped me out of the exam. She refused to help me and failed me. I had gotten 90% on the first in-person exam aswell. Do not recommend.
Doesn't care about her students. Very Rude. Extremely hard tests. Seems like she wants you to fail. Does not care about her students. Very mean when responding to emails. Will take points away from you if you ask her a question that she does not like or that was already asked.
Rude. I learned nothing from this class. Doesnt care whether you pass or not, doesnt take the time to help you understand material. Offers extra credit for you not to email her and ask questions. Short quizzes less than a minute per question short exams 39 minutes for 50 questions. Its like she wants you to fail. Take biology with a diff prof.
She is a very mean teacher who doesn't care if you pass her class or not. She gives you extra credit to not ask her dumb questions or just questions in general. She is an awful teacher who doesn't care about you. She doesn't help you figure out why you are failing only tells you study harder or take notes. Take this class with adifferent professor
The class is well structured and organized. Taking detailed notes and reading test question carefully is the way to succeed. when I reached out for clarification she was rude and accusatory that I didnt have the behavior of a student wanting to learn. She does not have the behavior of a professor wanting to teach. I was appalled at her responses.
We had class once a week, of those 14 weeks in the semester she was absent for quite a few and cancelled even more than that, I'd say we had maybe 6/14 classes in person and with her present. This caused a lot of criteria to be left untaught and off the final. She also forgot to change quiz dates from 2020 to 2021, which meant we couldn't take them
The class started off really well, until was switched to a hybrid class. This in fact did not help me at all, I ended up unable to keep up with little help from the professor. Wasn't sure if the class was in person or not. Her lack of communication with students was awful. Not only that, but her constantly calling off classes was irritating. AWFUL!
if you have a choice, don't take her class. she was extremely rude, and try to make you feel dumb.. she also was veryyy slow at grading assignments and getting back to emails. It seemed like she didn't want us to pass. also the quizzes and exams... good luck passing those. she makes them extremely hard. so in the end don't take her class.
Was scared because of these reviews, but she was not bad at all. I personally struggled when we switched to a hybrid class half way but prior to that her lectures were very good and even her videos lectures she uploaded afterwards were very clear. She was funny and responded to emails pretty efficiently.
This teacher is no help to your career. She doesnt email you back ever and seems as if she doesnt care about your questions. Since my class has been half online half in person its been difficult to get any help from her. She doesnt care about this job. The extra credit in her class is if you dont email stupid questions each week, you get it.
This is easily one of the hardest teachers I've had here at OCC but aside from all the negatives with her, it was definitely a wake up call. You must take notes in this class and watch the lecture videos to pass. It's a wake up because if you plan on transferring like me, it only gets harder especially at universities. Ask questions and for help.
Please do not take BIO 1511 with this professor. Every week you have 3 quizzes, and have to watch 4-8 videos to take notes from. She doesn't even lecture in class, when you're in class you have to do group work. She is very confusing and is very rude. She's also horrible at responding to emails. The ONLY positive of this class is there's no final.
This professor is horrible! Each week you have 2 quizzes and a pre-lab. You also have to watch 4-8 video which you MUST take notes on. When you go to her class all you do is group work, she doesn't even lecture you. She is extremely rude and does not care for her students. She is hard to get responses from and usually has an attitude.
I will never take a class with her ever again. She is rude, disrespectful, and not helpful to any of her students. She seemed to have a bad attitude toward everything and hardly helped me when I had questions about the group works she made us do. She is also a very slow grader with the group works and made us do a ton of work each week.
She is not the friendliest person you will meet so if you can find a different professor, you're better off. This was a hard A to get with the constant weekly quizzes, reading, and long tedious lecture videos. As long as you take good notes from her videos and don't miss any labs, quizzes you will pass it's just NOT easy. Only good thing no exams.
awful
She is not considerate to the fact that some/ most people have not taken a science course in some time. My sister who is going into nursing dropped out of her class and she had a 3.9 GPA. If you want to actually learn about biology without getting stressed out, do not take her class.
This teacher is very rude and doesn't care if students succeed. It's almost as if she hates her job, I'm not sure why she is a teacher. She is very negative. Despite the reviews on here I took her class giving her the benefit of the doubt, I don't know what I was thinking. I will never take another class of hers again. Take these reviews seriously.
She graded with little feedback, with really no clear rubric to follow. Gave online guided labs that midway through she would go, "Oops, don't do it this way" after learning that a method she tried did not work. Why not re-record the lab properly? Didn't grade nearly half of labs until after the last day of class. Felt like she phoned it in.
She was very fair and as long as you watch the lectures and take good notes you will be successful. She expects you to show up on time and participate in the labs, which shouldn't be too much to ask of a college student. The negative comments are ridiculous.
Good lectures, easy to follow and not too overwhelming with scientific terminology. Labs were comprehensive and straightforward. Teacher made sure we knew she was available outside of class and was flexible with lecture attendance, only lab attendance was mandatory.
I read the reviews for this professor and thought perhaps these students hadn't applied themselves like I do and took the class anyway. I would like to apologize to these students because I now realize why this professor has the reviews she does. Her weekly quizzes are confusing and she's elusive when you ask for help. Harsh grader on everything
For being on online class, very frustrating. Wants you to be prepared for the week but doesn't give you access to any content or stuff you need to BUY for lab, leaving you behind to begin with. I lose brain cells watching her lab notes. I understand this isnt a university but it's literally elementary level labs. Also quiz answers are confusingggg
a very tough grader and will take points off assignments for the smallest details, has weekly tests and assignments that make up the bulk of your grade, closes online lectures after the due date. the amount of stress and work put into a 3 credit class is by no means worth it. I don't usually write these but it had to be said. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I'm surprised her rating is so low. Before the semester, I saw these and almost wanted to drop the class. She ended up being very reasonable and if you complete all of your work on time, you should have no problem getting an A. The class does not require as much time as the syllabus says. Don't be intimidated.
around 30 lectures to watch per week. No exams, only quizzes with insufficient time & assignments with no clear grading criteria. She offered a redo on one of the 6 assignments, yet she didn't grade half of them until the semester was over so you don't even know what your worst grade is to redo - a pointless assignment. Take someone else
She just submits a bunch of videos and expects everyone to watch every minute. She puts no effort into teaching students she just takes a bunch of videos and makes everyone watch them. No slide show, no notes, no transcript just videos taken on her phone.Idk how she still has a job. She has over 160 negative reviews on here. FIRE HER ASAPPPPPPPPPPP
Professor didn't give clear criteria for quizzes and didn't grade majority of assignments until weeks after they were due. Emailed her unsure of why I got a failing grade for one of the quizzes, since there were no notes on it and got a very rude email back over a week after I sent it. Choose someone else who puts effort into teaching the class.
She expects you to read up to 5 chapters in one week. Her quizzes are unreasonably timed and you can have a quiz for multiple chapters jammed into one quiz. Unreasonable individual, acts like she is the only class you're taking making it impossible to keep up with your other classes. Unclear rubrics and grades very harshly.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. I have been at Oakland Community College for 3 years now, and I have never had a professor as horrible as her. One Weekly lab, sometimes two, and is extremely harsh at grading. If you don't have a 60% or higher on the labs and your course grade is 86%, she will fail you. I do not recommend her at all.
The class is challenging but engaging if you stay on top of the work. Weekly quizzes and group projects require diligence, but unstuck ai can help with efficient study prep. Attend lectures and ask questions - the professor is strict but fair.
This professor doesn't seem to want their students to succeed. Regardless of all your other classes, she expects you to have her specific syllabus memorized frontwards and backwards so that when her lab/assignment instructions are somewhat unclear, any errors that you make will result in points being quite harshly deducted. Very critical, always.
If i could go back, i would have never registered for her class. You can have 90% on everything else but if you don't pass all those labs it doesn't matter. I passed everything but only passed 50% of the labs due to health issues and let her know i know i needed 60% but while i was hospitalized some of my lab material got ruined. She did not care.
Her syllabus contradicts itself. No matter how good you do on the test and classwork assignments, If you don't pass half the labs with a 60% +, she will fail you for the entire course. She is a tough grader and the way she sets up her online sister, leaves out no room for human error and your grade will permanently suffer.
She grades very hard get prepared i wouldn't recommend taking her class. Lab work was difficult also get ready to spend money
Terrible professor, takes points off of labs over small mistakes. Her criteria is so confusing and does not provide adequate time to be able to submit a quiz. Very rude when emailing about questions and very rude when providing feedback. Only has videos of her talking, no slides to see. The worst professor I've ever had, and wish to see her fired.
This class is NOT hard. I'm so confused by all of these bad reviews. I'm in the 15 week class, and I can see how it could be a lot of work if it was compressed into the 8 week class. Looking at my classmates' posts on the discussion boards, they're clearing not following BASIC instruction. The labs are easy, I have 100% in all of them.
Terrible professor. Takes points off labs for small mistakes. So rude when emailing. Doesn't want to help you.
Run!! She is unreasonable when it comes to grading and doesn't give clear instructions at all. The labs are easy; I'll give her that, but her grading is awful. Also, she grades everything at the last minute with no helpful feedback. Save your gpa and pick someone else.
She's very tough on grading is very rude when you try to email her. it's the last 2 weeks of class and i thought i would rate her. i'm disappointed in my counselor for recommending her. she's terrible. she acts as if she has her class only.
Awful professor. I'm a pre nursing major and need a B in this class for it to count. Unfair grader, seems like she wants her students to fail. Will NEVER take a class taught by her again.
I was taking the online version of BIO 1510. Dropped within the first two days. For it being an online course she obviously did not care. The course was asking so much for an at home course. I have heard her in-person class was "okay". Do not recommend taking this course AT ALL if you will be online.
She is the absolute worst professor you will have. If you take her online she makes it known she will not respond to you until she feels like it. In my case she takes 5 days or longer to respond. She will not fully answer your questions either she gives half answers. She is not here to help you. She will try her best to fail you for the labs.
This professor is unreasonable. The workload was extreme from day one—endless quizzes, homework, and posts. Quizzes had 30 questions in 10 mins. When my mom was dying, she refused extensions and showed zero compassion. I failed quizzes while at her bedside. Do not take this class.
She is the worst professor. The course was 8wks instead of a full semester with the expectation of spending 20+ hours week on it. Lack of lab writeups make the bean sprout lab confusing what you should be tracking. Closes lectures access after one week so no review options. Beyond confusing grading scale. Do not take her courses
She was terrible and very unprofessional, she never responded to emails on time.If you needed help with something you would not hear back from her until Tuesday by that time it was to late and she already closed things out so you did not get the information you needed. Then when she did respond her mouth was so smart it was crazy
Taking this professor is the same as getting hit by a truck, the audacity of this professor to grade this ridiculously and be so uptight to where you can't even ask a question without this professor acting like she is the queen of England and your wasting your time, and god forbid you ask a question she already posted on d2l. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND
I've never emailed a teacher more in my entire life. she grades so unnecessarily hard it makes no sense. The content itself is very very doable and is not the issue. SHE IS. she has a horrible attitude in her email responses and takes a long time to grade. ALSO she does not let you see your own grade?!?!?you get a mid semester update and that's it.
Grading was very difficult, along with her ability to respond to emails. Class was very fun though!
