loved her! she has a one of a kind sense of humor that you'll either love or hate. very helpful and constructively honest teacher, fairly easy grading, and her essay requirements arent hard. she does require you send ur essay to the class so they can all review it though but besides that, absolutely loved this class
This class was very interesting! She is a wonderful professor. She knows her material very well, considering her education level. I would highly recommend her! She is a tough grader, so edit numerous times!
She was willing to help and was flexible with her schedule. We had a lot of students that did not turn stuff in, but she was willing to change the deadlines. Her syllabus is open to change, but she will only remove things from it. we had 4 papers and 1 final exam with a few discussions and a handful of quizzes. Take if you want an easy A.
This professor assigns too much work. She also does not reply to emails concerning assignment questions. If you write her a paragraph on the email, she will reply with a sentence:Read the instructions again or Yes\No. Really hard grader as well. Essays needs to be written as if you are taking a doctorate degree or you fail. Takes forever to grade.
there was an overwhelming amount of information given to read though about assignments, to the point of confusion. Assignments were graded very slowly. This made it difficult to improve before the next paper was due. It was also difficult to receive answer to questions that did not include "read all the information in the first weeks file"
Dr. W is my favorite professor at this school so far. She was very nice and helpful. She gives students free choice on writing topics, which was a major plus for me. You really need to keep up with the assignments if you are going to succeed, though. I loved her sense of humor, but I can see how others wouldn't. I'd definitely recommend her class!
SO MUCH WORK!I dropped class 1st wk there were 26 attachments to read/quiz on (quizzes didnt match) read half of 1 the text book & first big paper was due week 2 Rest of weeks looked just as scary with a sprinkle of confusing. Her intro said she has a doctorate so address her as Dr.her grading sounds tough but i didnt get far. DONT TAKE!!
Appears to read at least the first couple of pages of what you turn in. Fairly strict grading. Provides contradictory information about assignments and won't admit her mistakes, to my detriment. A lot of work for an 8 week course. Be prepared to do readings and discussions and still find time to do research for two major research papers.
Very unclear, doesn't seem willing to help, it was an online course so I never got to meet her. Very specific and if you messed up she wouldn't really help you.
She looks like a mean but is actually super nice and funny. She can be a little confusing at times when it comes to her assignments and modules. I don't understand the negative ratings she's received. She's a great teacher, and if you actually stay in her class, you'll learn tons. if you like english, you'll breeze through her class.
All of her assignments were so detailed that they were too detailed. You were unable to read through the entire assignment sheet unless you thoroughly read through it at least three times. She changes her dates and is a late grader. She does not answer to student's questions and very unclear.
Dr. Westmoreland explains assignments quite thoroughly and is very engaging with her class. I thought that not only was her class occasionally fun to write for, which is uncommon, but also entertaining at times. It helps that the class was given a lot of freedom when it came to the specific topics we could choose to write about. I enjoyed it
She is not very clear. You ask for help and she tells you to read your assignment sheet again. Has a theme based course so everything you write is revolved around this theme.
4 Writing Assignments (in order): Personal Narrative (1500 words), Informative (2000 words), Evaluative (1500 word Film Review), and Reflective (1500 words). Also, a Brief Reflection (500 words) after first three. Has a real dry sense of humor and constantly makes 80s90s references which are pretty funny. Overall, she's very helpful when you ask.
SHE'S AN AMAZING PROFESSOR. Yes, you actually have to do work & yes she actually expects you to do it well. But it's really not that hard & YOU'RE IN COLLEGE. If you don't wanna do work, you don't deserve a degree. She's very fair & nice and has interesting lectures. Sometimes she does go a little off topic, but I loved that. Take her class!!
I have also taken ENG 231 w Dr. W. She's amazing. She encourages visits during office hours and is incredibly helpful when writing essays. She's very clear with what she wants in each assignment. She's tough but her classes are so interesting and she really cares about her students. If I needed more ENG classes, I would only consider taking Dr. W.
4 essays for the entire course. Do the work, get a good grade. Pretty laid back, simple class. She's a bit annoying and enjoys talking about herself too much though.
5 essays throughout semester not too bad but had to stay with the same theme all semester. Got bored after awhile. Papers were graded extremely slow so no chance to see your weak points before the next paper was due.
I took Dr. Westmoreland's lit class about apocalyptic literature. She is very laid back, but she does expect you to keep up with the reading. Believe me, if you don't keep up it is very very VERY hard to catch up. Overall if you ask for help she'll give it, she's only of the best teachers.
took 223 on apocalypticdystopian lit, really fun but be prepared to read, it is very hard to catch up should you fall behind, tests require some deep thinking and understanding of basic elements of literature, overall the class is tough but her humor helps you relax!
This professor was very helpful and fair. There's plenty of work but as long as you do the work you'll get a good grade. Liked the theme, was a very interesting and fun class.
Really nice professor and always willing to help you when you need it. The class requires a lot of reading but it actually wasn't too bad if you kept yourself organized and on top of things. The class discussions were really interesting as well and made me look forward to coming to class.
When you can get in touch with her she's very nice and reasonable, but her online class is a mess. Syllabus had dates and assignments from previous semesters that weren't meant for us, takes a long time to grade (many excuses for this) and due-date calendar is changed nonstop! Instructions are so wordy it gets confusing! Try in-person, not online.
Not helpful, makes tons of excuses, you wont know what your grade is until it is too late. Has no heart in helping you or clarifying things on the syllabus.
TAKE HER! I enjoyed this class so much! She picks great texts to study and really dives into the controversial stuff in the works. She really makes you think about the world around you. Can ramble off on random/person stories and political views though. A good bit of reading but the class descussions are worth it.
I read none of the books assigned to us, and on to of that I didn't even watch the movies. The only movie I actually watched was the one assigned for my student discussion and I earned a high B, also I missed a couple classes. Safe to say this was an easy credit.
Probably one of the worst english classes I have taken. It takes a lot of work to even figure out what your assignment exactly is and she really is not that helpful. She assigns stuff too fast, before you turn in one essay you already have to start working on another. She also takes 3 or 4 weeks to grade your essays.
She took more than two months to grade our first essay. We were still expected to turn in assignments without any feedback from her. Her assignment sheets are ridiculously lengthy. Work until 5 pm everyday? Assignments are due at 5 so you better have it turned in a day early. She doesn't curve anything, no extra credit, and she is a tough grader.
I settled on this class when all the others were full despite the ratings. Assignment sheets are two page essays. She likes to hear herself talk. No, students don't like your rambling descriptions of assignments. Very frustrating class.
She speaks to her students like they are children and her syllabus is 12 pages of her rambling about "what NOT to do." Claims that "all grades are final" and she never discusses or changes a grade, so you have to cater your writing to be exactly what she wants to hear or she'll take off points. There are so many better english profs to take.
I took her 8-week online summer course and I would not recommend it. I had two other courses and was completely overwhelmed with this one though the last few weeks were not nearly as rough as the first few. I suspect she would be much better in person. As mentioned, her assignment sheets are long and confusing and her tone comes off harsh.
If you ask her for help or have a question on an assignment, she takes forever to get back to you and doesn't even answer your question. Rude and condescending with her feedback. Really seems like she is annoyed with everything she has to do and put up with.
Dr Westmoreland was my first English professor in my first semester in College, and it was awesome. I loved that her syllabus was long and very detailed so i knew exactly what to expect, and she even listed what we'd do every class every week. Though, it was graduate level work for a 101 class, I loved that because it felt like i was getting ahead!
She would like to be addressed as doctor and thinks very highly of herself. Treats students like they are nothing and stupid. Is very very slow at grading she will take weeks and weeks to grade a paper, no chance to see feedback. Responds to emails in very short answers and will not go into further detail if asked to. Rambles too much on syllabus.
I would liked if she gave more help during lectures and not act like she is brothered when the students do ask a question.
To be honest I only read the first few books and then googled "*book name* discussion questions" and got by with that and a summary for our class discussions. Attendance is important bc of the discussions in class. The exams are lengthy and about analyzing quotes in our reading so it's so-so. Rambles. Gotta do one in class discussion lead.
I took the online class and it's fine. I got the high grade on essays and her comments were that "There are no mistakes. A" but I only ever got a 92% or 95%.. She assigned an essay due Thanksgiving weekend cos she has no heart and my bad internet connection in the car wouldn't let me turn in the essay. I messaged it to her and got a 0. Not cool.
She cusses on an occasion which makes her funny. She had a stroke and she will talk very bland & you'll tend to tune her out. She expects everyone to read the textbook that is given. One thing I don't like is that she will spend the entire class reading everything word for word from documents that are posted on canvas and that gets boring quickly.
Reading the Professors reviews, I wasn't too sure if i wanted to take her class. But she was the only professor left. Dr.W Is honestly a really cool laid back teacher, she is an easy grader, and easy to get along with. I don't regret taking her class.
i took this online, and she took months to grade my essays. its the final week and she still has 3 of my essays to grade. she was extremely hard to reach, but if this doesnt bother you she seems like a lax grader. theres also ALOT of assignments in the beginning.
I really enjoyed Dr Westmoreland. I will say she makes you work for your grade but if you pay attention to the syllabus, you will pass. 4 papers total and small assignments in between. Participation matters and coming to class gives you points. Shes challenging, but the class was worth it! You can tell she really has a love for English.
very opinionated and unclear with instructions. WARNING: NOT AN EASY A. TAKES FOREVER TO GRADE PAPERS. GIVES HARSH CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!
I enjoyed English before I took this class. This professor is very harsh when it comes to constructive criticism and it is very discouraging. She is very opinionated so I wouldn't recommend taking it with this instructor.
If I can stress one thing, if you want an easy A, this is not the class for you. She is the WORST English teacher I have ever had. She is EXTREMELY opinionated, due to this, she creates an uncomfortable atmosphere in class. She does not, by far, give students helpful constructive criticism or provide clear instructions for assignments. Just awful.
Very opinionated and does not always have clear grading criteria posted, so if you ever feel confused make sure to ask her. Hard to reach out of class, but almost early let's out early. 3 major papers and she grades fairly easy. Overall, she is a very fun professor and I would take her class again in a heartbeat.
She is very good at teaching format and giving you examples so you don't get lost on what she wants. She can be hard to get feedback from, usually giving one or two responses in emails. Go to the resource center before submitting the 3 main essays and youll be fine. Essays are an autobiographical, informative, and film review. Very fun & relatable!
She is a very real teacher; she won't beat around the bush and I love that. The syllabus makes the class sound like a very challenging class but it's fairly easy. Be prepared to read and be able to think outside the box to understand the meaning of a passage. She is very funny, caring; if she hears that a reading was too much she'll ask for input.
I took the online class, and this may have been the worst experience I've had with an online teacher. She gave zero feedback on discussions, exams, or papers, and required course papers to go through the writing lab, whether or not it was needed, or you'd lose a grade. The syllabus was the actual instructor for this class, and it was useless.
Dr. Westmoreland expects a lot of reading and participation from you. Every day you turn in a note-card with discussion questions about the reading for participation. There are two book-based tests, so READ! Theres one course paper and one presentation. She is nicer than she sounds (especially if u participate), and she talks to you as your peer.
Instructor gave little to no feedback on any assignments and/or questions you have (1-5 words). Does not respond back quick. Still awaiting grades from early Nov. Not encouraging or helpful. Recommend you going to a tutor if you have questions or need help. Disappointed as this course was important to me to understand.
This teacher gives out work, but no directions. Expects you to find everything yourself, even when it isn't in the textbook. When you ask questions she barely answers and is super vague. When she does take the time to grade, she doesn't give feedback, and there isn't a discussion that provides students with a place to ask questions. Bad class.
I would not recommend prof Westmoreland. Papers are not graded in a timely manner and it takes forever to receive feedback. When you email her all you get for a response is a one-word answer that usually does not answer the question you asked. This class was hard for no reason because the professor did not care about what the students were saying.
Professor is unfair, and scrambled. Should not be teaching if unable to provide simple instructions for assignments & have good communication with her students.
I immediately dropped the class after reading the syllabus. Five major projects, group discussions, and quizzes. She makes it mandatory to go through Smarthinking and/or writing center and wants proof of using the writing center such a stamped and signed document(one letter grade less if not) Last page of syllabus needs to be signed and submitted.
Assignments say a different due date than what is expected. Takes weeks to receive a grade, including zero feedback. Personal emails were short and rude, and class-wide emails had little to no substance. Tests worth 25% of your grade came unannounced and only available for 3 days.
Dropped this class after reading the 17 page syllabus + taking the syllabus quiz that didnt match the syllabus. I only joined because she listed her name as Kathi so couldnt find her here. She had 4 major projects and if you miss one you fail the entire course. Not joking. And no extensions. Theres also multiple test + discussion weekly.
Every bad review is absolutely spot on, so I don't need to reiterate. Except to say, I have never received less than a B in any English class since 6th grade. I love English. I actually got an A in this class, but she just didn't grade my final paper worth 100 pts, and gave me a 0. later telling me I got an A on it. SMH!!! Could've lost Fin. Aide
If you can take any other professor, do that instead. Avoid her at all costs. She's extremely rude and unhelpful to students. She hardly ever replies to questions and emails. She constantly makes excuses for herself when she doesn't grade assignments for weeks. Grading criteria and instructions for assignments are very unclear.
No clear instructions what so ever. I have always had A's in all of my classes but this class is just awful. She doesn't tell what she wants for an assignment and is so unhelpful.
This professor is awesome! I am excited to see her in person classes!
This is my third semester at csn! She okay and pay attention to the syllabus and you will be fine with assignments and get ready to read.
She is the worst English professor I've had; the feedback is so rude and so not needed. She does not know how to talk to her students and honestly, she expects so much for one paper, I would not take her again she is the worst.
I should have dropped this class after reading the 17-page syllabus. English is my favorite subject and I enjoy a challenge, but this class grants you challenges with no learning opportunity. Grading is incredibly harsh and when you do something wrong there is no helpful feedback. Just avoid this class if you can.
I do not recommend Dr. Westmoreland if you are taking ENG at CSN. She hardly replies to private emails, and if she does she is rude and short. She is unclear with directions and expects you to figure it out yourself. She is a very harsh grader and accepts no late work, regardless of your circumstances.
Dr. Westmoreland's class has just been miserable. I love English and writing essays, but her class has honestly ruined it for me. She is picky with her grading, offers condescending feedback, and sucks the fun out of learning. I have never written a review before, but this class was far too miserable for me not to write one. Avoid her class!! ):
I took this class of fall of 2022 and the assignments are discussion questions! One paper and midterm and final exam!
I have never gotten lower than an A in an english class EVER. However professor Westmorland's class was extremely tedious and I ended with a B+. She cares more about the technicalities and format of your essays then the actual content. She will point out any minor mistake and drop you letter grades for it. I highly DONT recommend her!!!
took online summer class BAD IDEA she did not have class due dates updated so i had missing assignments and i had to tell her she was wrong for her to fix it. did not help at all when having issues finding TurnItIn in our canvas. she rude and short with responses, high and mighty attitude.
I took this class fall of 2022! Make sure to complete all the discussion questions! Good luck to you!
Dr. Westmoreland is definitely one of the more interesting professors I've had this semester. She claims that she's a tough grader, however, some of my worst work has been graded as an A. She goes off topic so much that I know more about her own life than the actual textbook that we don't use.
For someone who has taught for so long you would think she could do it well. She prides herself on the fact that very few people have ever gotten an A, and that Shes a tough grader She spends more than half the lectures talking about herself. If you can avoid her avoid her save yourself the time and headache.
Kalene/Kathi isn't a good teacher, there isn't much to say about that. From the tough grading to showing or describing insensitive content during her class, it is best to avoid her. (FYI, keep in mind that she does show movies/content that may be triggering to some, without proper warning).
Terrible teacher. Unclear grading criteria; i.e., you can miss points for something that she didn't mention as a problem/dock you points for in earlier papers. She will go out of her way to ensure you don't get an A, like it's some sort of badge of honor. Seriously, choose any instructor but her.
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. If you ever decide you want to hate a subject, Dr Westmoreland is the one for you. She sucks all of the fun out of learning. She will dock you an entire letter grade for something that she does not mention in her syllabus/criteria. Pick this class if you decide you want to hate your life for asemester
I was honestly surprised to see how many bad reviews this professor had. The lectures mainly consisted of discussions and we were only assigned one essay, a midterm, and a final which weren't super hard even if you didn't do all the reading. I never had any issues getting in contact with her and she reopened the midterm for me after I was sick.
Do not take this professor if you like unclear and confusing directions. Had an assignment that was super confusing with directions but she wants you to follow her directions to a T. I did poorly on that assignment and dropped my 100% to a 70%. She also does not respond professionally and responds with one word answers so good-luck having feedback.
Do not take this class if you're not a perfectionist or if you do not like a teacher who nit-picks every little thing on an essay. inconsistent grader. She marked my paper as plagiarized because I accidentally had another citation on my works cited that I did not use in my paper. crams multiple essays in towards the end of the year.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! Her instructions and grading criteria are unclear. She is rude whenever I ask her questions about the assignments. She gave me a B- on a paper just because of the margin.
I took this class of fall 2022. The discussion questions was fun. One presentation. One paper.
Assignments is fun. The tests are online. Homework is discussion questions.
Ten sources minimum for one paper...
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I would rather take this class with a different teacher than be a student in her class. Grades late, and doesn't explain assignment instructions well. I gave up on this class and I should've withdrawn from this class to get a better Professor that knows what they're doing. 0/10. Please avoid this professor at all costs.
I'd much rather eat a rock than participate in a class taught by this professor. I love English, but she made me hate it. Tough grading with no helpful feedback. Snide remarks if you email her with questions. So much work and yet I feel I have learned absolutely nothing at all. Avoid her.
I read her syllabus and instantly dropped the class. I have one more credit I need in English to graduate and I was not about to throw all that away for failing in a class with unreasonable standards. If you want to do well and learn without the worry of failing an entire assignment due to one mistake, I'd invest in other professors.
I am currently taking her class right now online and she isn't very clear on the assignments. You have to go on a witch hunt to find what each essay or assignment is about. She is a very tough grader. Read everything on modules or you will be lost.
This is the worst English class I've ever taken. Sends one word responses when you ask questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR AN EASY CREDIT. It's not worth it, save your money or get another professor.
I'm currently taking her ENG 223 class, and she is extremely political in almost every class. It makes it difficult for me to participate, because we have differing political views and she is one sided. Also, there are many long reading assignments which makes for dreadful homework. One required book was written by her husband, and its garbage.
This teacher was just very rude when I would ask questions, and not helpful at all.
She can be chill if you get on her good side, but she's mostly pretty cold. The first day of class she introduced it by saying she mainly gives C's. How lovely! She doesn't give much direction with the readings and the textbook is so expensive and I never read it and still passed, It doesn't really tell you anything needed for her projects.
This professor is absolutely ridiculous. She will go out of her way to avoid giving A's. She will dock points for things on one paper that she did not dock on another paper. Avoid if you can.
Dr. Westmoreland was by far an impeccable teacher. She currently doesn't have a great review, I'm here to change that. She's very kind, caring, and really does care about your work. Highly interested in helping you make your work better also. She helps describe what would be best in certain areas, as well as making you feel comfortable and loved.
