Very unfair grading. I was within 3 points of an "A" and she gave me a "B".
She was a tough teacher, work hard to do well.
Kalynas social issues class was very intersesting, and as long as you do the study guides you are set for the tests and quizzes. Be prepared to do alot of reading!
Kalyna's class was really interesting but you HAVE to do the reading to pass. so slackers and complainers go elsewhere. I thought she was really nice and realy helpful. My only complaint is she uses the Blackboard computer program so you need a computer.
pleasant personality
There is a lot of reading for this class so if you don't like reading, don't take it with her. But overall she's a pretty cool teacher. The quizzes are easy if you read. Same for the tests.
good teacher, lots of reading, always willing to help, very interesting class, lots of great videos
VERY EASY class if u do the reading & study guides. Questions and answers are directly from study guide..but be prepared..as stated above, lots of reading, which of most are interesting. Cool professor w/ cool videos and cool stories.
I took this class as 6 week summer class. It was very interesting and as long as you fill out the study guides it was a piece of cake. Lots of fascinating articles to read, some text. Fair grading, made very clear at begining of class.

Pretty easy to get a good grade, the tests aren't hard, not are the quizzes. However, her lecture style is one of the worst I've ever encountered! She talks WAY to fast and never writes ANYTHING on the board. Also, is very far from unbiased.
This class was a lot of fun w/ group work, and you will meet new people. Her lectures are right on topic and because of her organized study guides straight from lectures and you get to use them on the test yet you have to work to get an A.
i took this class in fall 2003. i found the online articles and packet articles very interesting. the tests were pretty hard but the quizzes were easy. i liked the use of blackboard, it was easy to use. overall it was an okay class. i would recommend it.
Overall, I felt she was an excellent teacher. I took her class in the fall of 2003 and found that she brought a lot of personal insight and experience into her teaching, which made it especially interesting.
I took her for 100 and 110. Easy classes HAVE TO DO THE READING but she does write everything and anything on the board.
Love this class, learn a lot of interesting stuff, best teacher i've had yet
Took Women's Studies with her. She is a bit strange, but a very good teacher.
Lack of communication resulted inn recieveing a grade which could have easily been avoidable. I wouldn't reccomend this class to any student athletes or indivuals who work and take this Class packet articles too long for such short tests and Quizzes.
Talks much too quickly and demands too much note-taking. Nice person, though.
This is a teacher who will make sure you learn the material. Tests are open note and she does an amazing job at providing in-depth study guides that you can use on the quizes and tests. Gives chances for extra credit. Do the work, you'll get an A.
talks fast but no worries if u know how to take notes. all tests and quizzes reflect reading and notes..u must read ..overall easy to get an A
Took it over summer, interesting class, very helpful teacher, quizzes and tests were open notes and she gave us study guides that were exactly like the tests and quizzes, group work was fun and easy points, lots of extra credit offered
great class! teacher is VERY anal, but her tests and quizzes are straight off of the study guides she gives. Easy A if you actually read and do the study guides.
Shes very weird but man the class is sooooooooo easy. Just read the articles she assigns you and do your in class work and your bound to get an A. Shes a anal about talking to your friends though and cell phones.kinda boring too but the videos are good.
Very interesting, must do readings and study guides, time consuming class, so plan ahead, nice woman, always responds quickly to emails and very willing to help, if you fill out study guides and try should be able to get A or B.
best teacher i've ever had
She is awesome! I really enjoyed her class! The topics were interesting and so were the videos! If you do the study guides you will get an A for sure!! She also offers extra credit for those who go to the Museum of Tolerance, I strongly recommend that!
Lesyna is awesome. Very helpful, motivated, and you can tell she loves what she does. She is always available to help if you need it. Thanks Professor. Class is easy if you do your work regardless if you have a job or are an athlete. You learn a lot and all material is extremely interesting.
The most organized teacher I have ever had. Quizes are diectly off short reading assignments. Test are directly from readings and notes. Pay attention and get an A easily. Class is also very interesting. You'll learn a lot about the worlds culture.
This teacher is a hippy that openly expresses her extremely liberal views. She asks for certain peoples opinion: if you say something she agrees with, she will act like she is neutral on the subj, if you say anything that is remotely conservative, she will argue with you for the rest of the class.
VERY liberal. If you express a slightly conservative opinion, she'll jump all over it. However, she is very informed. Had her for Women's Studies and was more concerned about bringing men down than bringing women up.
Awesome teacher! Easy to understand with straight forward assignments. Some call her liberal, I say she presents factual materials that conservatives have a hard time swallowing.
Very good teacher. Well organized. The grading process is extremely fair. She's a little quirky as a person, but great as a teacher.
What an organized teacher! Her assignments are very clear. This class requires A LOT of homework, but the assignments are easy; mostly busy work. I recommend completing as much of the extra credit that she offers- it leaves a little breathing room for her tests!
Understanding Social Problems; hard online class, but teacher was extremely helpful- very clear and professional. She actually made class fun! (And I have to work full time, too!)
One of the best Professors I have ever had. I think she is terrific and knows her stuff. She is also really passionate about her work and what she teaches which is really appealing and interesting.
I don't know why we couldn't get along. She was very interested at first but gave me the feeling that I was either intruding on her class or was unwelcome.
Great Professor, I've never been in a class with study guides and actually retained any of the information but her study guides and quiz structures force you to read the text and also to understand the material. She's a great professor and would recommend to any of my classmates.
Her class is a piece of cake. If you fill out her study guides (which does a lot of time), you can use it on the test and the answers are directly from it. You almost cant fail. Online class does require you to check blackboard frequently. She responds to emails but is rather short and can come across as being a little rude. Overall Easy Class
do your study guides and you'll be fine. you need to show up for class but its an interesting subject so it's not bad. i recommend her!
lesyna is a great teacher, i took 2 sociology classes with her and i learned alot. The class is easy if you do the study guides, because the tests questions are based off jt. Lesyna's class is great!
She's nice and all but kind of has that "holier than thou" thing going on. Do the study guides and you will ace this class! They do take some extra time so give yourself and a day or two ahead b/c it is worth it. You can use the study guides on all the tests and quizzes so there is no reason why anyone can't pass this class!
40 page study guides it sucks, she is boring and has a mono tone the whole time, tests are hard if u dont do the study guides but she doesnt grade on a curve, i would recommend someone else trust me
If you take this class be prepared for a sh*t load of work... Let me put it this way she has her own textbook that she wrote that you have to buy along with the regular text book! I would recommend someone else!
She is very unsympathetic. instead of Lesyna- EVERYONE should take SCHAEFER and you'll have LOADS of fun in a sociology class!!!
She is a waste of time. She gives HUGE study guides to do before each quiz and test that take forevor! No matter how perfoect of a job you think you did, the tests will still leave you disapointed. She also seems to be kinda... you know... hippy-ish (in the past), but she wastes soooooooo much paper! Expensive too: text book + rip-off packet.
Interesting subject, but the study guides are soooooo long. good thing is you can use them on the test but it does take awhile to fill them out!! I enjoyed her as a teacher and she definately respects students opinions!!
I took her Soc100 online class. Just make sure you do the forum postings and take a day or two before tests to do the study guides and you'll get an easy A in this class. Don't try to get creative with her, just follow her instructions as closely as possible and you'll do fine. She is good about extended due dates for (blackboard) tech problems.
she wastes a lot of paper. her study guides are long and a waste of time. even if you do them all the way you could still end up with a C, which is lame cuz the study guides take like 9 hours. dont take this class unless you are going to be a soc major. it is a waste of time and not worth the effort put forth.
There was a quiz and test about every week. The study guides were long and pointless because you still need to do other studying. She talked quicker then you could possibly write.
She is very particular about how things are to be done and I didn't like her very much. I took the class online and found it to be relatively easy to get an A so long as I sat down and filled out the incredibly long study guides. Subject matter was pretty controversial and I found it mind-numbingly boring.
She's the worst teacher I've ever had, her study guides make no sense, the class is really outstandingly boring, Very picky about grammer and puncation and threatens to send you to a tutor if she doesn't like you papers. As I said the worst teacher I've ever had and I've had some really bad ones.
online class is hard as heck! i am taking 4 classes and she gives more work than all three others put together. You need at least 9 hrs minimum per week just to read!Than add her reading packets, discussion boards, quizzes, and tests to the list... if this is your only class you will be busy... if youre taking others, i recomend you re-consider.
I've taken online courses before with no problem but this was by far the worst class I've taken in a long time. Her study guides are 20 pages long and take forever to complete. Way too much homework, I regret wasting my money on this class. Avoid her.
Easy class to get an A in if you do the work and read her policies beforehand. Make an effort and you will get an A. A lot of reading so don't wait til the last minute. You can bring your study guides to the test. Teacher is totally fair. Good class!
Pretty simple pretty much everything on the study guides are on the test and you can use study guides on the tests and quizes. Quizes are very easy and they are timed though.
looking for an A? take this class. with basic time put in to it.. you will bot doubt ace it.
Online, Fall 07. DO ALL THE STUDY GUIDES for the test. You can take them in with you. Make sure if you take the quizes online that you have filled out the study guides as well. Should have no problem passing if you don't get behind. She is strict on deadlines and don't ask to do make-up work. She gives extra credit. Learned a lot in this class.
Looking back at my college career, this class was the most intellectually damaging them of them all. The rampant moral relativism of sociology departments is why we trust in gods, governments and parents. This class and prof are nothing less than evil.
Prof. holds students accountable for deadlines and basic proper grammar. There is work to be done but an easy A if you do it. If you cannot handle working for your A or comprehending her syllabus, do not take class. Not a difficult subject if you're open-minded. Prof. is fair and reliable. Online class recommended to mature students for sure!
Online class is easy. How many teachers let you use your study guides on tests and quizzes? Material comes straight from tests and quizzes so as long as you take the time to do them, you'll get the A. Teacher is fair.
She was great! Loved the class and loved going to it. Always an interesting subject being covered and she was always extremely clear on what we needed to do and when we needed to have it in. Study Guides on a test made them a no brainer, you'd be foolish to have an opportunity like that and not use it. She's awesome, loved learning in this class!
ONLINE SPRING 2008. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! There is a weekly quiz on a big packet of articles that they make you buy for $60 (just a bunch of paper bound together). Then there is a weekly discussion board. The test study guides take NINE HOURS- coming from a straight A student with 3.7 GPA. More work than all 4 other classes COMBINED. Stay away!!!
Spring "07 Internet class This class is strictly memorization and regurgitation! If you take the time to memorize the study guides you will get an A but do not expect to leave the class with any applicable knowledge. I am dissappointed as the subject could have been interesting if the information was applied to something - not just memorization.
extremely strenuous class. so much material... if sociology is your major then it will be interesting and lifelong learning information, but it will be very time consuming and at times frustrating because of all the reading and study guides to fill out. 200 pages of study guides total, 11 hours of videos, 20 disc. board posts. I'm not exageratting!
OH MY GOSH!!! The last 3 posts are amazing. You guys are a bunch of babies!!! It's on ONLINE COURSE! That counts for 3 hours of class time PLUS the additional work. Did you expect to just sit back and do nothing? THAT IS WHY THEY CALL IT A DEGREE! YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT!!
I took the online class and it was easy. There are a lot of videos to watch and there is a lot of reading but she gives out the study guides for the quizzes and tests. If you can manage your time and do the assignments early the class will be a piece of cake!
she is horrible, you have to buy her rip-off packet for a lot of money/it is full of other peoples work and she puts her name on it....i think it was 80 bucks. She only gives you a minute per question on quizzes because she's paranoid about you cheating when she says you can look at your notes...she's nuts!
Very easy class if you read the required readings. The problem was her political agenda. Every single reading was about how minorities were better than white people, or how women were better than men. I got an A in the class and all of my essays talked about how bad white males are, even though I am a white male.
Do not take her class. If soc is your major, find another teacher. She gives tons of work. The study guides are about 50 pgs per test, plus you need to take quizes about articles, watch 13 videos (at least 1 hr long each one) and do a paper about it..it is not an easy A.
If you do all of the reading and study guides assigned, you'll get an A. You can use study guides on all quizzes and a notecard on tests. Material and assignments are presented very clearly, so you always know what is expected. She definitely has a liberal bias, but it is not overwhelming. Intro level material is a bit dry and conceptual.
Her study guides are very helpful, but LONG.. Test questions based out of study guides. Cannot miss class or you'll miss out. She assigns a lot of work, but as long as you do the work, you SHOULD be able to PASS. There is not as much discussion as I had hoped, but overall she is a good teacher.
It was online. She gives good feedback and there feels like there is actually someone there versus a totally independent learning experience. She teaches the fundamentals. There is a lot of reading, but the material she tests us on is as clear as day. She learns about her students in the process and is supportive of everyone's unique goals.
I took this class online and it was terrible.Way too much reading.Tests are based off of 4 textbook chapters which are all at least 30 pgs. each. Her study guides are way too long to even study off of.She put so many questions on there that you can't retain that much information and remember it all for the test.Failed every test but still passed.
Avoid this professor if you are not comfortable with a lot of homework. She is heavy on bookwork, her study guides are massive and impossible to absorb 100%, and her tests are very long and difficult. She is big on assignments too. But her lectures are good and clear.
STAY AWAY FROM THE ONLINE CLASS!! It's way too much work for a sociology class. It's definietely not worth the time. I definietely DO NOT recommend this teacher! The tests are minimum of 20 pages long and it's impossible to take it within 2 hrs. and its SUPER hard!
She always states that a 3 credit class should be about 9 hours of work a week. I had to spend about 15 hrs/week just to finish her study guides. If your opinions constantly differ from hers than she will be bias against you. This is by far the hardest class I've had including 1 year at Yale.
I took this as an online course. The textbook is great, the articles and videos she incorporates are awesome (if you're really into sociology like I am). She does give a lot of work, there's a lot of reading, quizzes, and 3 tests, but íf you're disciplined you'll be fine- Very helpful, like she's present through the computer! Definitely recommended
She is a pretty good teacher. Some days are all lecture while other days are group work. She lets you use your study guides for all of the quizzes and some of the tests. The only con is that you have to put a lot of work into the study guides in order to get a perfect score on the quizzes and tests.
Took her online class over summer, she is VERY helpful... hard to believe how helpful! will respond to e-mails fast and even send comments on you DB posts to let you know what u r doing right or wrong. As long as you read the material and take quizzes and post to DB on time, you'll pass! I would recommend her!
I loved Proffesor Lesyna. I took her online class and she is so organized, it's not even funny. She is crystal clear about what she expects and if you complete the study guides, you will do fine. I got an A in the class just by staying on top of the work. She is very clear with what she expects and it is very do-able.
The study guides are SUPER LONG, but it's worth it at the end. The class discussions are great! The lecture a whole different story. Over all it's an okay class.
Dont take this class with this teacher!!! you have quizzes all the time and they take about an hour to do the study guide which you can use one quizzes. Tests are horrid and long and they study guides are about 40 pages!! i would never take this class! she is sooooo frustrating and things she is amazing and blah blah don't take it trust me
Horrible! This is a 3 unit class but she treats it like a 5 unit. She is very clear about what she expects and the textbooks are used all the time. Quizzes are weekly with 10 page study guide & the quiz only asks maybe half the material on the study guide. Very difficult class and sadly even with a C, I have to take it over again. :(
Took online class. She's EXTREMELY organzied so if you're looking for a lenient teacher, this is not for you. Tho may work for you if u have 10 organizers. Wouldn't suggest; It is VERY hard for a 3 unit class. Took up 15-20 hours a week of studying because EVERYTHING was on the test. Also she judged my personal life because I have strong views!
she just rambles on and on and on and on in her online class. she is sooo detailed that I dont even know the point of her class or syllabus are.
the posters below are right. her online class sooo tedious filled with ALOT of busy work in my opinion. the subject and material are not hard whatsoever at all not in the least but she gives you soo much tedious work. her study guides a like 50 pgs long for a 10 question QUIZ not test when in reality she just needs 2 pgs. it feels like its 5 unit
I took the on line class. The information is super easy, but there is a lot of tedious work to go along with it. I don't work in the summer, so I was okay, but if you work full time I would think twice about taking her class.
You don't want to take her unless you have the time to read dozens of bits of information without a fine toothed comb. I have to agree with everyone else, this should've been a 5 credit class, given the amount of work. She isn't lenient in the least, so don't slip up!
LOADS of busy work, but do-able. Many online and book articles to read, then you fill out study guides on those articles, and you can use the study guides and articles on quizzes. Tests are from textbook and lectures, and you're allowed both sides of one 3x5 notecard. One big paper to write on a book about a sociologist.
Extremely stict teacher & very time consuming class. I took this class online & I completely hated it. You must read several articles & pay attention to details. Constantly being quizzed on information & she posted useless information on BlackBoard. I did every exta credit assinment, constantly communicated with her & still got a B, only B at pmar.
This class is insanely hard for a 100 level course. I took her online and found her course to be very time consuming and obnoxious due to the heavy load. She was not only unapproachable when contacted but her class is full of busy work and full of meaningless details. Very hard to keep up. Her exams are exhausting and graded unfair.
Horrible. Way too much work for a 3 unit intro class. Study guides are outrageously long for quizes and even worse for tests. Quizes are on pointless articles. Lectures barely help for tests so you have to study out of the book to do decent on the tests. Worse class I have taken in a long time.
I was very excited about taking this class, but it turned out to be a big waste of time. WAY to much of a workload for this type of class. Study guides are 30 to 40 pages long and don't really help. I did get a B in the class which I am satisfied with, but I would recommend taking a different teacher. Class was not enjoyable AT ALL.
Very organized professor, I took her online class last summer. I love how she gives you study guides to fill out, all the answers for quizzes in the study guides. I would definatly take a class with her again!
SOC 100 online. It was too hard I recieved an A. Because I worked my butt off! Articles up to 15 pages long 5-10 Aritcles at a time that you had to memorize for quizzes that were every 3 days Quizzes were trick questions everytime 2 hard midterms Redicuous study guides Unless you DONT want a life take her class.100 courses should never be this hard
I took her online class this semester. She gives a lot of homework, video quizzes, quizzes on material that is not relevant to the text, and exams that require a lot of studying. She does give study guides, but they are 7 to 15 pages just for one chapter, which makes it confusing to know what exactly is on the test...
way too hard for a 100 class lots of reading but very very nice teacher. very understanding but lots of reading and writing plus the essay is 8 pages
She was a very informative teacher but was too ridiculous when it came to study guides and quizzes. The amount of information given from her to study for this class is too much. Some of the readings did not pertain to the book at hand. She has too much to do for a 100 class.
I enrolled in this online class for a Fall term. Big mistake. This professor is not clear on any assignments. First online exam she gives a study guide that is over 20 pages long. There is quiz after quiz with no clear studying material. She is a kind professor but for a 100 pre req class the amount of work required is rediculous.
This professor is freaking ridiculous!! SHe overloaded you wit course and busy work, Thewirk was very time consuming and tedious! God forbid you have a questin, she will just refer you to the FAQ's which is dozens of paper! My suggestion is to NOT take her class andif yo do make sure you have about 15 hours a week to contribute to it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. The content of the material is not the hard part, it is the quantity of the work and the inflexibility of the teacher. She will take of points for practically anything and everything. She gives online quizzes, video quizzes, book tests, book reports, discussion boards. 3 on campus exams, 50 page reviews each! Don't do it
Wow this teacher puts way too much into the class. She takes points off for EVERYTHING! Nitpicks and makes you do ridic amount of work for a 100 class. The study guides for her exams are over 20 pages long! I've never taken a class like this. She bashes things and does not answer questions in e-mail well. Terrible class and even worse professor.
Have NEVER had a Pofessor like her. This class was a miserable experience. Her lesson plans are outdated and make no sense! ENDLESS study guides that have no relevance to the material. Papers, and Papers, & MORE papers! Do yourself a favor and pass on ANY of her classes. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!
Prof. is very organized!I think that if you like structure and an instructor that sets the ground rules in an organized manner-then you will appreciate having this professor! The Study guides were VERY helpful-you were able to use them for the quizzes!Only 1 paper required at the end of the semester.Easy class, in my opinion and a great instructor!
Horrible teacher!!! Online article do not correlate with the exam. The quizzes don't lead up to the exam. Tons of reading to do!! Beware if you work full-time and have a family, DON'T TAKE HER!!! I thought online classes are for those who work and unable to attend because they have priorities like family or disablities.
I took this class in addition to my high school classes, and I didn't have any trouble at all. As long as you keep up with the weekly quizzes and fill out the study guides, no one should have trouble with this class. The tests are almost word for word from the study guides. There's a fair amount of work, but it is a class. I enjoyed this class.
Be prepared to work! There is something due every other day, whether it be a discussion board, video quiz, or article quiz. I made the mistake of taking this as a summer class. It was VERY hard to pass while working a full time job. Maybe if I took it during the semester it wouldn't be so bad. Overall, good teacher just a ton of work.
This teacher teaches at a very fast pace. Make sure you are able to take good notes and are able to take them fast. She gives study guides out for the quiz's which she lets you use during the quiz. Her Exams are a huge part of your grade and the study guides are huge for the exam. Way to much information to remember. Good luck with this teacher!
Mandatory attendance since she gives in-class assignments. A lot of work. Very interesting subjects but a lot of time.
She is a nice person but the amount of work that she gives is INSANE. She acts like this is the only college course that anyone is taking at any given time. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
I took her class online. It is a lot of work but her deadlines are clear and her study guides reduce time spent on quizzes. Reading the text book is VERY important because her assignments and quizzes are not on her tests. On average for a psych/soc class (including other 100s) It is about average in how much material and writing you have to do.
she is a very clear on what she wants done, and when its due. This was the most demanding class ive ever taken. I think its way to much work for an intro class but if you do the work you'll get a good grade. Don't expect an easy A
If you work, have other classes, or a life outside of school do not take this class. Lots of tests and quizzes and even more reading. Find a different teacher.
Work was pretty normal. I got myself into a math class that was averaging about 3+ hours of work a day, 5+ days a week- now THAT'S absurd. Professor Lesyna was clear, genuine, informative, and helpful. Also: What is this "hotness" thing they have here? Seriously? Is that not sort of disgusting, judging people, especially in this context, on that?
I really enjoyed the class and I learned a lot! The work was organized very well and easy to navigate. We used study guides to take the quizzes. She used different types of media to teach the class and the videos were very interesting. Awesome teacher and a nice person.
Good prof.- not easy A so don't think that it's going to be given to you since it's SOC. Sociology requires lots of research for understanding.
She's a micro manager. This online class was over the summer and she had a schedule that was outrageously difficult to keep up with. You have to make sure you look at it thoroughly. I also dropped it because she expected me to stay up until 1 a.m. to wait for her reply to finish an exam. She doesn't work with you at all. I do not recommend her.
This class is very interesting, but it is NOT an easy A. She is very organized and clear as to what she want you to do, but the amount of work for this class is crazy! If you don't stay on top of your work you will get so far behind! Although the amount of work I have learned SO much. Good luck!
The class itself is very interesting. However the work is pretty demanding. Almost (if not) every class you have a 20 question quiz. she lets you use your study guide for it which are 6 pgs on average. A lot of time spent on study guides but my grade doesn't reflect it. Lots and lots of homework. It's do-able but a lot of effort needed.
I took SOC 105 online -- it was a tough class, but I really enjoyed it overall. I learned more in this class than any other online course I've taken. I HIGHLY recommend printing the study guides that she posts each week, and filling them out as you go along - a lot of work, but will make or break it on your 2 - 300 point exams.
Lots and lots of study guides. Was very hard to keep up with while also taking 2 other onlines and working during the day.
She's really nice, but the expectations (at least in my opinion) are way too high for a sociology class. I was excited to take this class, but the work became too much for me and seriously so boring. Maybe it's just the way i work, but for a class like this, I would take it from someone else. She's helpful though
I enrolled into psychology 105 expecting it to be a normal 3 unit class, but it is definitely wayyyy more work than a 3 unit class. probably more homework in this class than my 5 unit math class. Her quizzes and homework assignments don't lead up to her tests and are irrelevant from the book. The midterm and final are the only book work. dont take
Being a working adult this class is not for you! 30+ page study guides, insane amount of homework, homework material is not on the test. half the mid term and final are online the other half is in person on campus (if you take this class and you work 40+ hours you will have a bad time)
Most essential information is from text and quiz materials. Quizzes weekly with study guides that give you the answers. Discussion boards and video quizzes trade off. Do the reading! And not last minute if your schedule is full. Professor emailed me when I was having trouble. Would definitely take again!!!
DON'T TAKE! Her online class was way too much work for this one 3 unit class! On campus midterm studied for 10 hours & got a B-. On campus final studied for 2 hours and got a B. Her study guides are ridiculously tedious although you learn interesting info. But interesting info isn't worth devoting 5+ hours for one study guide 1 a week.
In her summer classes expect a ton of reading.
Excellent teacher. I would highly recommend her. Yes, it is work but if you like Sociology, you can't go wrong with this professor. She knows what she is talking about and is very helpful and dedicated. Not for the "easy A" crowd.
study guides are long, quiz time is short, lots of reading like book, articles, video quiz and more. did not expect this three unit class to be so overbearing compared to my other classes and work . definitely makes you work for that B
She was nice enough and the class was interesting but it was nothing special You need the book and there is in class work so don't miss a class.
Loved this class. She does assign a lot of homework, but everything she assigns is very interesting. She provides detailed study guides, which come in very handy. She let's you use the study guide while taking quizzes, so fill them out and you will do fine. Very interesting class.
I didn't think the homework load was bad at all. Professor Lesyna gives very clear guidelines and it is absolutely possible to do well in this class. I learned SO MUCH. I will miss this class!
A great instructor that gives a lot of understanding of material. A true professional and expert in the subject field of study.
Took the online class for SOC100. You do have to take the midterm & final on campus in the library (She does allow you to have 2 flashcards w/you). The material that is assigned to be read comes from online sources & textbook. Quizzes are short & simple. Class discussions are lengthy and are posted on BB. Don't do assignments/quizzes last minute.
Took this class as one of my first online courses. This class is hard because there is a lot of video assignments and quizzes. The study guides are super long and don't even give you a good idea of what will be on the midterm. Would not take a class by her again.
Fantastic Professor. You can always count on her to bring her A game, and she has the most incredible study guides. It is always extremely clear what is is you are expected to know, her lectures slides are outstanding and she is a true Sociologist. She's the professor to take if you don't like Soc, because she will successfully change your mind.
She is very precise and specific with how she likes things. Her study guides are always at least 5 pages long, some 12 pages long for tests that are 15 questions. The midterm and final were really really hard. She provides so much information, but if you're looking for an easy teacher she is not it. Wouldn't take again.
THIS CLASS IS A TOTAL JOKE! HER STANDARDS DON'T EVEN MEET THE PAR. RIDICULOUS. TOO MUCH HOMEWORK TOO MUCH STUDY GUIDE WHICH I find unnecessary . Study guide don't even work for your quizzes midterm and final!!!! Will never take her again! HAD to take her because every class was full! NO NO NO NO!
Get ready to print, study guides for quizzes and tests are long. She makes the class much more difficult than it really is. Her videos, quizzes fails to relate the material to the chapter. Online classes take tests on campus.. Be careful, assignments you submit on blackboard are scrutizined over grammar instead of the material at hand.
Very easy! has a lot of study guides. can take up to 2-3 hours to do. if you do the study guides (which are very easy) then you will ace the quizzes/midterm/final. take the midterm and final on campus. get 2-3 notecards for those. if you do all the work then it's a definite A. Easy grader for discussion board assignments.
Great class, great professor. The textbook was expensive though and wasn't used very much. But the coursework is organized by assignment so it's very easy to keep up. There is a good variety of videos, lectures, and articles for the material as well as the book "Gang Leader for a Day" which was a very interesting read.
First off, I took this class to see if I could get an A the second time around. I got a B at msjc. THE BIGGEST mistake ever not looking at her review before taking her class! Get ready to read novels and be graded as if you were taking Advanced English/Sociology! Her syllabus alone is enough to get lost in Neverland by the time your done reading it
She is a good teacher she is over qualified to teach intro . The things i didn't like about the class were the lectures move too quickly. Most of the exams are based off the reading from the textbook, you won't pass the exams without reading, or at least skimming, the book. quizzes are easy if you just read the passages. an easy A if you work for
Honestly this teacher's video quizzes are easy because she gives you the study guide and all the questions are in the study guide. She is a very tough grader when it comes to the discussion posts and midterm and final was very hard for me. Her midterm & final are each 300 points which can knock your grade down tremendously.
I really enjoyed her online SOC105 class and learned a lot. The study guides are long but you will do well if you use them. The text book is necessary for mid-term and final (testing done on-campus). She gave several opportunities for extra credit. I appreciated how organized she is. I would take another class from Prof Lesyna.
Professor Lesyna is Great! She is engaging and very friendly. The vibe in the class is very relaxed and she encourages your input. She was extremely fair and understanding with students needs, creating an environment where everyone was very comfortable. I really enjoyed the class and would encourage anyone to choose her classes.
This teacher is not a bad teacher but her class is a lot of work I took the online 6 week course over the summer & I thought it was simple just a lot of work She marks a lot of points off for grammar does NOT let you take a quiz if u miss the 2 day window and is not lenient with grading Only take if you have a lot of time & effort to dedicate
In quiz 2 min warning with time left on test like little kids.
Had her for soc.100. I was super excited to take this class and this professor just ruined the class for me, made a subject that can be very interesting deathly BORING. gives student cold shoulder, never even seen her smile. Gives out study guides for tests that were helpful but they were approx 10 PAGES! and doesn't even give credit for them.
Online class that is what you make of it. Great subject but the instructor likes to "over word" things , don't overthink what she's asking. Study guides are long but they are the key to better test scores. Take advantage of extra credit, put effort into your DB posts and responses, you can walk with an A, chose not to and you get what you get.
I've taken many online courses. for a 3 credit class this professor has an extremely heavy work load. She gives very clear study guides for quizzes and tests, but be prepared to spend hours looking for answers in the book. material for quizzes is lengthy. material is easy, but the amount of reading & studying is on par with a 4-5 unit class.
Professor Lesyna takes pride in her position and brings her A-game to every class. She provides thorough explanation of assignments and expectations are clear. If you do your part and participate in discussions there is no reason to walk away with anything less than an A. Her study guides are a valuable tooluse them!
Professor. Lesyna, Is one of the toughest online professor that I have ever encounter. However, I would say that I have learned so much from her. And I will definitely recommend her to my friends because she is worth it. Everyone will learn from her and will learn how to work hard to achieve good grades. So happy to have taken her class.
Online Class - 20 hours per week-On Site Final Exam Required. Get ready to read the whole text book, fill out provided study guides up to 10 pages long. You will be quizzed and tested with questions that you will only know if you read ALL of the material. Additional reading materials include 1-4 page articles plus required videos (1 hour long).
The class itself was not difficult but it was extremely time consuming, it required about 24 hours of work a week. You get so flustered in trying to get everything done and turned in on time that you don't actually get the opportunity to learn what is being taught. I would not recommend this class unless you are making it your MAIN priority.
Shes a great lecturer and makes class really interesting. There is quite a bit of work outside of class including reading, studying and filling out study guides. There is a quiz or test almost every week. But if you fill out the study guides you can use them on quizzes. You can use index cards on tests. Not hard to get an A if you do the work.
This class has enough work it could be a 5 unit class. Her grades are based more on grammer and spelling than the material you've put into the paper. I had surgery during this semester and every one of my professors worked with me except her. I'm in recovery from surgery and she wants me to go in to take the final exam or fail for the semester and
Be ready to read the entire textbook. All tests and quizzes are timed so it adds some stress. Have to take the final on campus despite it being online. Weekly assignments include about a 10 page study guide on a whole chapter, and a quiz based on reading articles and/or a discussion board. Definitely a lot of work for only a 3 unit class.
I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy!! You will drown in homework!! You are reading a few chapters week, study guides 10 pages each and take video/article quizzes a week. Exams are covering 4 chapters at a time with another 10 pages for the study guide. She dings you on everything when it comes to writing assignments.
all you do is lecture
If you're looking for an easy online class for credit, this isn't the one. Final exam is taken required to be taken on-campus, which is 1/3 of your grade-- be ready for quizzes (multiple) every week that have very length study guides to them. She also has a zero exception policy for grades, I was one point off from an A and she would not help.
Only take this class if you have the time. This class requires you to read A LOT and take quizzes every week. The exams are very long and timed. You will feel overwhelmed and stressed with this class. The final has to be taken on campus.
Biggest difficulty with this online class was the amount of weekly work. VERY lengthy study guides (up to 10+ pages), timed quizzes, etc. BUT the exams are much easier when you do the study guides: you can use them on the exams. Lots of work in this class but if you keep up with it, it can be an easy 'A'. Several extra credit opportunities, too!
Online soc 100 class was so hard, so much reading and her study guides were a million pages long. Honestly would not recommend her only because she had soooo much reading, her daily motivational quotes were cute though
I took this class online and it was a lot of work and required a lot of participation. However the class is cut and dry and if you do what she asks of you, you will get an A. She allows you to bring one hand written 5x7 note card to the final which is a real help. Very responsive, great feedback.
This class was hard, but what else is to be expected of a college level class? There was a lot of reading but otherwise the course would have been ten times harder. Professor Lesyna gave quick and helpful feedback and overall tried to make the class as interesting as possible. Videos, articles, discussions and cute daily quotes. Very challenging!!!
Prepare to spend an extensively amount of time on homework. Study guides for everything such as: videos, articles, audio, and textbooks. If you have a family and a job, plus taking other courses do not take her. The class is online but have to take the final on campus, defeats the purpose of taking the class online. Nitpicks at all DBs.
Seriously was passing the entire semester then she puts in the final brought my grade to a 69.8 and she wouldnt round it! She should have had a midterm and then a final she had a 100 test final study guide didnt help. Now i have to take the class again!!
I learned a lot in this class, it was an accelerated 6-week class and there was a LOT of reading and large study guides. Professor Lesyna gives opportunities for extra credit and was very responsive to email. Read the syllabus and grading policy thoroughly. I would take her class again, you will need to work for the grade.
Professor Lesynas class was very organized and easy to follow. She does an excellent job curating material and organizing useful study guides. I took a 6 week course of over the summer and was one of my favorite classes.
This was my first semester online. Professor Lesyna made it enjoyable and very easy. Stay on schedule with the readings. Study guide is provided to be filled as you read making text easy! Very much enjoyed the class, would definitely recommend.
I love her! Easy online class, very interesting and lots of extra credit opportunities.
I love that she stuck to the material and offered interesting videos and lectures on top of them. I could count on getting the answers I needed for tests if I read and did what she asked. Her feedback was brilliant and you could tell she was very knowledgeable. A pleasure to learn from. One of the aspects I especially enjoyed was the db forum.
I would not recommend taking this professor if you work a full time job or the most 2 jobs because the amount of workload she gives is insane. Although every week its something different, you get a 10 page study guide for every chapter as well as either a video and reading articles both with test and study guides included.
She is good at giving feedback. Though she gives a ton of homework and papers to do. She is always switching and moving around due dates, etc. This is not a fun class if youre a busy person, theres lots of reading. Most of her assignments I believe are graded unfairly. Very harsh grading in general.
10/10 would not recommend. I would give 0 stars if possible.
The professor assigned a ton of weekly homework and the work was very textbook heavy. Most of the quizzes were difficult, the discussion boards were graded unfairly, and it was just a lot of work in general for such a basic soc100 class. I would not recommend this professor, I would suggest another.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you have other responsibilities. The amount of work in this class is EXAGGERATED! Im a 4.0 student and I had to drop out the class!
For a Sociology 100 level course she really exaggerates and overloads the amount of homework and reading you must do. Does lots of quizzes on documentaries / oral commentaries, articles, and every chapter and topic in the textbook. Tough grader and expects lots of detail on the discussion posts. Does offer extra credit. would not take again.
Great Teacher. Communicates promptly. Interesting use of articles/videos. ***MUST Read the text book. IF you don't have the time, don't take the class. *** The quizzes and Final Test came DIRECTLY from the Study Guides. If you follow her instructions it is not hard to get an A. Thanks Professor K.L. never knew I would enjoy Sociology!
She was a great professor! Just be ready to read a lot, youll have a textbook quiz and an article or video quiz each week. I took an 8 week course so it might be different if you take a full semester. As long as you do the study guides youre set to get no lower than a B.
Prof. L is a kind woman who is very knowledgeable, however the workload for this class is insane, so beware. Study guides are usually 10+ pages each, there are lengthy discussion posts, and the videos you have to watch are usually an hour long or more. This class is TIME CONSUMING. Lots of extra credit, if you do the work you'll be fine.
Professor is nice and the material is really interesting, but its A LOT of work. Hours of reading, huge study guides, lengthy discussion boards, and 30+ question timed quizzes every week. That being said the work is not difficult, its fairly easy if you just read the assigned material. If youre a procrastinator you will not do well.
Professor Lesyna is very kind and wants her students to succeed. I would not recommend taking her class if you have many responsibilities outside of school. For a 100 class, I did not expect the amount of work that she assigned. We were assigned multiple articles, videos, chapter quizzes (30 questions), and sometimes discussion boards per module.
Having ADHD made this class hard in the beginning, but I really liked it! There are long study guides (~12 page avg.) and assigned videos/articles/discussions weekly, so it took me about two days to get through all the work. She is very clear on what to focus on and gives good feedback! No late work, no make ups, but there is ex. credit!
crazy workload compared to other intro classes that I have taken. Dings you for the littlest things on Disc. Board. I wish I had taken this class with a different Professor.
Probably the easiest college class you will take if you do what she asks. Her discussion boards I got points taken off for some weird things but that was the hardest part.. DO THE STUDY GUIDES! Her test questions are almost exact replicas. She also gives a TON of extra credit. Do all of it! I left with a 101 because of the Extra credit!
Prof Lesyna was awesome. She was super clear and consistent with her expectations in the course. She follows her rubrics to a T and has a document explaining how to do literally every assignment. As long as you follow her instructions you will do great. Most of her articles and videos were very interesting and she offers a bunch of extra credit :)
I took the 4-week winter intersession. It was a lot of work I don't recommend it if you have a lot of obligations outside of school. The professor offers plenty of extra credit. There are around 7 to 9 assignments a week. Can be a tough grader in discussions. The workload isn't difficult just overwhelming for the number of assignments.
Even though I had gotten a C+ I would definitely recommend her because she's just amazing even though I had a F in the beginning. She kept encouraging me to do my best so I can get a passing grade. For those who think she is an awful teacher because of the work load just give her a chance she's a really nice She is the best Professor.
Professor Lesyna is online only. Her class is well organized through Canvas, with a module for every week. No Papers. Each week there is a textbook quiz, and 2 other assignments, article quiz, video quiz, discussion post. Lowest grade in article quiz, text quiz & discussion post dropped. Lots of extra credit, clear grading, no extensions.
SOC100 is tough don't take
While the class was overall not bad, the few interactions with this professor were somewhat awkward. When I emailed her with questions, she would direct me elsewhere or respond by not giving me a direct answer. She does not allow extensions for any assignments, though she makes up for this by drop the lowest score for the discussions and quizzes.
This class was a lot of work!! I've taken other online classes, and none have required the amount of work that this class did (SOC 100). Regardless of the amount of work, she was a great teacher, she was always communicating what we needed to work on each week and was amazingly organized. She really put a lot of thought into the class!
The amount of homework this professor gives for an intro class is outrageous. If you care about your sanity, please run. I thought that I could handle this class with other responsibilities, but over time, I realized that it was just too much. I ended up taking this course with another professor and got an A!
RUN!!! Too much HW way too much and the questions are way too hard. She assigns 10-page study guides and the readings she provides are written in such a confusing manner. She also classifies you as asking for extensions due to personal reasons "begging". She puts that directly in her syllabus. RUN!!!!
Professor Lesyna isn't as bad as the rest of the comments say. Like yeah she does give a lot of homework, but it's managable homework. Doing the study guide for each chapter helps a lot and proof read your work before submitting. Gives enough extra credit and drops enough assignment to the point where you can shift your grade from a 84 to a 91.
I took her class during the winter intersession, and I have to say those four weeks were heavy amounts of work. Every week there were around ten quizzes due every week. Although it was tough, I still believe she was a good professor. She did give opportunities for extra credit. It wasn't impossible just took a lot of time.
I took Sociology over intersession, so the course was extra difficult. The Professor was straightforward with feedback and graded fairly, notes were an absolute must in order to pass the quizzes, and I found the discussions and required videos to be the best part of the class.
Professor Lesyna's SOC100 is a challenge, but the work pays off. Engage with the system - study guides, quizzes, and unstuck study helped me ace this course. Not easy, but doable with effort.
The amount of EXTRA reading and videos/articles outside the text was absurd. I did well on everything I did, but when I got to a study guide where the study guide was more her OPINION on the topic than the science behind the topic (it felt transphobic to me), I dropped the course.
she's a super tough grader and expects so much from you, don't take this class she's awful.
She is a great person, but so much homework and reading, and her study guides are 10 pages long!! She also docs you for points like not underlining your title. She also makes her quizzes with way too many unnecessary answers, usually spanning A- F, which is absurd. I would recommend taking another professor, this class is unnecessarily demanding.
This class does have a lot of work, I think I spent close to 12 hours a week sometimes, but an A is very attainable. Fill in the study guides every week and you will do well on the quizzes. I didn't need to study beforehand as there was plenty of time to take each quiz and its open book. Lots of extra-credit. Few discussion boards. Variety in work.
The amount of work was so unnecessary. The study guide homework packets were always upwards of 12 pages long, majority were probably 15 pages long. She took points off of my discussion post because I used a semi colon wrong. Don't take this class unless you want to do sociology everyday.
The professor is very precise and disciplined. The exams are quite challenging, but the course topics and content are excellent. She has extensive experience and deep knowledge, which explains why her expectations from students are high.
Get ready to only read from a textbook and then copy every other word of it onto a 10-page study guide that you need for your first week quiz.
