Dedicated. Strong Chinese accent, but writes on board for clarity. Accessible office hours. Tests straightforward, but comprehensive. High interest in student progress. Emphasizes calculus. Well read in multiple disciplines. Posts homework solutions, powerpoint lectures, quizzes. Course is challenging. Supplements text. Loves teaching.
I go to a state university and I took this class over Summer 2012. He's a decent teacher. Just study everything he gives you and you should be fine. I got off with a solid B.
Hard course, good teacher. Gives practice exams, class assignments, bonus questions. Departmental power point lectures. Covered 19 chs. in text. Strong emphasis on math, even beyond calculus. He will know your name, major, strengths w/in a month. Likes to see students succeed. Tests returned by next class. Web-based homework. Expects participation.
Professor Chu is great! He is really nice and cares about his student succeed. Very tough course but he made it do-able. He gives practice tests and even extends hw due dates when asked. he tries to keep student involve in lectures so its not that boring. he's funny at times too.
really organized class and he lets you know what is exactly going to be covered on the tests. cool guy. hes got a bit of an accent but hes real funny
Professor Chu really cares about his students. You can tell he enjoys Physics and he tries to spread that to the students. He makes sure his tests aren't hard. Straightforward guy and doesn't sugarcoat anything. If you actually do the homework and reviews you'll be set.
Professor Chu is awesome!! Do the homework & STUDY THE TEST REVIEW & you should make an A. He tries everything to help you- test review, final review, and we even got extra credit. He will quickly learn your name and where you're from. Makes funny references. Really nice professor. I hope to take him again for university phys 2.
Professor Chu is the best! Super smart and funny which makes lectures interesting.Loved his class & definitely recommend him. Come to class, do your homework, and study the review:)
DONT take him if u want to learn Physics. 7th week of school, we r on Chapter 8. Only hmwk he assigns is online hmwk, 10 problems. No quizzes. He gives a practice test (6 multi part problems) (few words & #s are changed on the real test) with all the answers to it, so study those. Drops a test. Teaches off a powerpt and writes stuff on the board
His online hmwk and optional textbook hmwk is NOTHING like his practice test. The practice test is basically the test, only the numbers and a few words are changed. So study the answers he gives to the practice test if u want to succeed. If you want to learn Univ physics, DON'T TAKE HIM. You get a formula sheet for every test. Drops a test.
Excellent professor. Has a talent for making physics crystal clear and maintaining the students' interest in the subject. There is no mystery as to what will be covered on the exam, essentially allowing the students to decide if they want to be successful or not. Awesome professor, I've taken two of his courses and highly recommend him!
I took his class for Summer 1 session so it was definitely fast paced but manageable. He is a great teacher always willing to help his students out. He likes it when people ask questions so do that. Tests are not difficult. Just do the review and ask for help and you should be fine. I would definitely recommend taking his class!
This class is a very fast paced class, he teaches off of powerpoints so make sure you are used to that method of teaching. Homework is online, homework doesn't have anything to do with the actual exams. If I has a chance I would not take class again because I did not learn anything. Good luck.
The material was relevant, concise and presented in a logical manner. Expectations were clearly set at the begining of the course. The material has proven to be challenging, however my level of understanding in this subject has improved dramaticaly.
Dr Chu rocks!
I took his lab course based off what I read on his reviews. I am in complete shock at how bad he is for Physics 1 lab. This has been one of the worst, if not the worst experiences I ever had. He is hard to understand, extremely disorganized, and if anything goes wrong he will find a way to blame students. AVOID HIM!!!
Explain the experiments and theories behind very well. Help students set up the apparatus. Always available before and after the lab.
He prepares tools and sets up our experiments very carefully. His requirement is clear. He proves all equations included in the experiments.
The labs were a little unorganized and he was not clear on a few things. It is really hard to understand his accent and he goes off on a political tangent sometimes. He was a fair grader for the labs but the final exam was difficult. He did not tell us there would be multiple choice for the final and the multiple choice was VERY difficult.
Excellent lecture, tons of outside the text's information, prepare students well for engineering majors, highly recommended!
Dr. Chu honestly cares about his students and tries so hard to help them succeed. Lectures are enjoyable and easy to follow. Amazing professor. I can't recommend him enough.
Dr. Chu is one of the best professor I ever had, he knows physic front and back. If you put in work you will get a good grade. Make sure you do your homework and the online quiz. His class was never boring, I actually enjoy every bit of his lecture. Very funny man and I will definitely take him for physics 2
DR CHU is EXCELLENT AT CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
Physics II was challenging but Prof. Chu was very helpful. He was kind enough to give me letter of recommendation shortly after the semester began, none of my other professors cared to answered. He knows his subject and cares to explain many times. Make sure you show respect towards your classmates and him. He notices if you try your best.
He doesn't explain concepts well at all, and can barely speak English. This teacher tries to avoid meeting with students any way he can. Its like he is scared of students and of public speaking. Just going to Pr. Chu's lectures, I learned nothing.
Dr Chu is an incredible physics professor! He really cares about students and is willing to help even if he has to give up his free time! He really knows the subject matter and has an in depth knowledge of Mathematics and Physics. He taught me SO much!
This guy knows his stuff and a lot of knowledges outside his field. He explains difficult subject matter in an easily digestible format. He's extremely helpful outside the class. It's rare great experience at HCCS!
Dr Chu is passion of physics and student learning! Great lectures and learn tons of extra math skills. Tests/finals are manageable if you understand the practice exams. I actually loved how unique his tests were. He is hilarious!
Took this professor for laboratory Physics and he explains the lab really good and gives good feedback to students when asked a question. He is a really funny guy. DON'T MISS A LAB CLASS OR YOU WILL GET A 0 ON THAT LAB AND YOU CANNOT MAKE IT UP. So yeah attendance is mandatory. At the end of the semester he will drop the lowest lab grade!
He is a good professor. He is pretty easy. Do well in the quizzes and the homework. And for the test his MCQ are pretty hard on first two test. But test 3 and finals he makes that easy to help student to get an A and its pretty much the same he give in the review for the test. Good lecture.
Kam Chu is a savage
He is really easy.
Dr Chu has raised the pedagogy bar to levels HCCS never known. He is by far the best professor I have ever had.
he is very funny and makes the class fun
Luckily I had an easy going group & it made this class not so difficult. Not everything was very straight and clear but it wasn't too difficult to complete. Before this pandemic I enjoyed the experiments in class but transition wasn't too bad to virtual experiments.
Take him for phys lab.
He will make you confused and you'll not learn anything, trust me, he is worse than the reviews here, I taught myself from YouTube way better listen to his lecturer. Anyway, try him and you'll regret assured.
Great and energetic lecturer who made attending classes fun and engaging. His lectures are clear and he makes you understand why learning the material matters for engineering majors. Definitely recommended.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS THIS CLASS! he makes it so hard for students to understand the lectures. and then ends up blaming the students for it. everyone in my class received bad grade for exam 1 and he decided to email all of us and blame us for it. but the truth was his teaching way is so bad that even he gets confused on what he says.
Dr. Chu is one of my favorite professors in the physics department. He is a great lecturer and makes the class interesting. He encourages participation by giving squarecap questions. His tests are much easier than the homework, which won't be bad if you pay attention in class.
Professor Chu is one of the best professors at HCC, brilliant, and caring. His class is a MUST TAKE for students. You will learn a lot of interesting physics info and the class environment is extremely supportive as well. I loved having Dr Chu as a professor so much that I am taking another class with him next semester.
I first took Dr. Chu for Phys 1401 and loved him so much that I waited to take phys 1402 until I could take him again. He is hilarious and will make the class interesting, he'll also try to explain the very difficult material in ways students can understand it better. Dr. Chu really cares about his students and makes an effort to help them!!
Professor Kim is very hard to understand with his accent. I struggled understanding him because he mumbles and talk fast. His test are pretty difficult as well as the quizzes. Attendance is graded. His class is basically graded on tests and quizzes. BAD PROFESSOR
Dr. Chu is an excellent Professor who cares that the student receives the necessary education so that he can face the coming classes with the appropriate knowledge. I recommend Professor Kam Chu to any student who really wants to learn and enrich their knowledge.
Dr. Chu is an excellent Professor who cares that the student receives the necessary education so that he can face the coming classes with the appropriate knowledge Either at the college or university level. I recommend Professor Kam Chu to any student who really wants to learn and enrich their knowledge.
He was alright, but he demands constant participation. He constantly asks, "are you there? Hello? HELLO??" and it can be trouble some when you're trying to take notes, having to unmute, and say "yes". He does assign a lot of homework, but the tests are easier. It was a rough class to have online but the textbook helped.
Physics is a challenging subject. If you are confused, Dr. Chu will always help. He will try to explain in an easier way for you to understand. He has a virtual class meeting option. He has quizzes, homwork, exams. Exams are easier than homework. If you study the reviews, you would be good. He is a good professor for physics. I recommend having hi
Professor Chu loads the online lectures with interesting demos and real world examples. I took AP Physics in high school, and this course applied those concepts to the world beautifully. Dr Chu is also a really nice guy, and he has a genuine interest in helping students. Best online experience at HCC!
Was dreading taking physics since I had to drop the course years ago. Physics with Dr. Chu, however, has been very delightful.. his lectures are amazing and he is very helpful! Exams are easier than the homework and our grades are not weighted heavily by our lectures exams. I plan on taking him for Physics 2!!
Professor Chu may seem very intimidating at first, but once you get to know him he is very laid back! Always gave us extensions on the homework if needed, and provides a review sheet for every exam. His lectures are not boring and he doesnt just read off powerpoints. Best professor to take for physics in my opinion.
Dont listen to the negative reviews. Professor Chu is an amazing professor and really cares about his students. We used an online learning module called squarecap this semester and each questioned was timed. He was always willing to reopen the questions if we ran out of time. I bet no other professor would do that for you!
The class is easy if you pay attention and ask questions in class. I also met him after class when I had problems and he always explained. He extends the assignments if you were unable to complete on time especially with the covid situation. I never heard him use any derogatory words as others said. Do your work, get an A.
Great Professor. Gives a great introduction to Physics.
Really nice guy who really cares about his students. He really knows how to teach the course online, and the difference showed compared with my 1401 professor. Definitely try to get in his section, it's worth having a 8am class, and that's really saying something.
An amazing online lecturer! Very clear explanations and he clearly enjoys his subject. He will take all the time you need to after class to discuss other things you want to know. Very happy, always smiling, and he loves his writing pad!
id have to say i am surprised that professor chu has negative reviews. how does he not care about his students? he was open to feedback throughout the semester and extended our homework numerous of times. no questions asked. he cares about our success and wants all of his students to make an A. he is truly a gem. also gives out exam reviews<33
Enthusiastic professor! Best online experience!
Let me tell y'all... I did not take physics in HS an I was super scared to take it for the first time at HCC but this class was set up so that if you practice you will succeed! HWs and exams were weighed the same so that was great and you were able to take exams twice. Dr. Chu was very accommodating and understanding during the COVID-19 situation.
He is the worst professor I have seen. He gave the question on the test He didn't teach. Then I asked him for a final test review I had studied on it and the test is different. he didn't care about his student. Don't take his class.
HCC and its professors should be ashamed of themselves. He knows his material but doesn't know how to explain it at all, if you ask him questions he'll give you this attitude. A LOT of homework to do. Review nothing like his tests its like he wants you to fail. When you see his name just keep scrolling.
The class was circus and the clown torturing students. He insulted many students while they tried to ask him questions. The class had 3 tests, a final and homework was 15% of the grade. He promised us extra credit but he never ended up giving us any despite the class reminding him several times; he is very unorganized and never replies to emails.
Don't take him unless he is your last absolute choice.
I had him for PHYS 2326 and he was so awesome, his online lectures were so easy to understand and listen to. I enjoyed being done with that class. He posted the practice exams and gives a lot of help. On top of that, he is really funny hehe
Best professor to take for Physics! Doesnt take forever to grade exams and hw etc. and his exam review sheets were very helpful.. would give him 10 stars if i could....
Take Dr Chu for physics if you can.. you wont regret it. Wish he taught more sections.. his classes fill up fast
I really cannot BELIEVE all those reviews talking bad about Professor Chu. Oh my god, you have no idea how amazing of a teacher professor chu is. Yes, he gives you a lot of homework. Yes, there is a lot to do. Yes, the homework is harder but they only prepare you for the exams. His feedback helps a lot. He is the most understanding and flexible
He's very funny and informative. The homework can be hard but the tests are a breeze alongwith the helpful reviews!
Surprised to see negative reviews, he is a pretty good prof. There are 3 exams and he provides reviews which really do help on the exam. The homework is on the harder side but definitely doable. He is very understanding if you have problems/questions and will try his best to work with you. If youre stuck between two professors definitely take him.
Professor Chu is such a great professor. He gives out test reviews that are very helpful. He also records his lectures which I find very helpful in case you can't make it to class. You take quizzes via squarecap but it' not too bad. The homework is a bit harder than the tests but it is manageable. Professor Chu is very understanding and funny.
He's cool, easy A. Homework is a lot but it's easy, there's a weekly pop quiz but it's pretty easy too. He gives test reviews as well so the tests are reasonably easy. Make sure you participate as well! "Delay No More!"
He is an excellent teacher, very enthusiastic, which helps grasp the material. Tests are mostly pretty easy if you do your H.W. and do the review. He is a very accommodating teacher. I would definitely recommend Dr. Chu to anyone wanting a good learning experience
Attend the lectures and do the homework that is assigned makes the class easy to understand. Explains the information clearly with lectures and can always ask questions.
Throughout the course, he gives a clear outline of what needs to be done to succeed in his class. Lectures are very helpful since he tries to give clear explanations, allowing anyone to ask questions to clear the confusion. Do the homework and attend class.
This class was a walk in the park. One of the easiest college courses Ive taken. Ever. Physics is a hard subject but Dr. Chu makes physics looks super easy. Lectures are very informative and straight to the point... such a great guy thank you professor!!!!
One of the best professors I have had at HCCS. He really wants to see his students succeed and will help you 24/7 if you really put in the work.
I took him for both phys2425 and2426. if you don't understand something and email him, he will reply quickly. You would spend a lot of time on homework. Homework are harder than exams. Practice exams will help you a lot to prepare for exams.
I took Professor Kam Chu for my summer class. I am no different than most students having tough time with learning physics. I did great because of his use of out of the box teaching techniques and methodology. The homework questions were all solved in class sessions that helped a lot. I would love to take my remaining physics lab classes with him.
"Yes sir? Yes sir like Hong Kong Police?!" Dr. Chu is one of the most funniest and greatest professor I've taken. Took him for 5 weeks summer. Class was simple and he gave great lectures. He does give a lot of HW, but he gives the solutions to help you out. The exams aren't hard, just study the homework and his notes, and you're good. Take him .
After an online era, in person class with Dr. Chu is a real blessing. Physics is tough subject, but Dr. Chu teaches it in very interesting, understandable, and memorable way, so you'll remember the concept for years to come. Make sure you read all the instructions for the labs and follow the lab handout. Thank you for the great semester, Dr. Chu!
HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME? This professor is very organized and grades thing promptly. He gives good lectures and provides good material to learn. He grades labs fairly and his tests questions mostly come from his reviews. He is very funny and makes class enjoyable. He is very helpful and you will learn in his class. take him!
This professor is hands down one of the most amazing teachers that I have ever had. He truly cares about his job and is very engaging in his lectures. He makes physics a fun subject and always shows real life applications of each phenomenon of physics. He is also very accessible via email with any questions or concerns that you may have .
Dr. chu is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. He turns physics into an interesting subject. He is very organized and has clear grading criteria. He provides you with test reviews that are mostly similar to his tests. Take him :)
In general he is a good professor his exams are all from the exam reviews. He gives a lot of homeworks make sure you guys do them after each chapter cause they all are due in the last of the semester and they are a lot!! He is rude with the students but thats fine you will get your A easily.
He responds quickly to emails and provides all the resources one needs to do well in the course.
Hello! Can you hear me? This is the best Physics class ever. Dr. Chu knows how to make Physics fun to learn. If you are a slow learner, take his class. He is happy to help students. He derives joy and pleasure teaching Physics and he is good at it. Homework is a lot and its 20% of your total grade. Exams are very easy. I took this class summer I.
Professor was pretty good. Don't rely on his lectures to understand, you'll do, at most, remember the material. Not that he teaches badly, but he had to teach fast. The reason he is 4 stars is that he frequently asks "Can you hear me? Hello?". And this is after almost every statement. It was incredibly annoying having to reply every time he asked.
"Hello, can you hear me?"- get used to that phrase. If you want to get an A in physics, take this class. The exams are just like his reviews, he grades very leniently for labs, and he gives hw solutions. the only thing is that if you procrastinate on the hw it'll all come crashing down on you because he sets the hw all on the last day.
He is an amazing professor and very knowledgable not to mention told a lot of very hilarious jokes. This class was the most fun I had, and I literally couldn't wait to go to class. I learned so much from him. His tests are fair. Do your assignments on time and participate in-class activities, you will get a good grade. Take him you won't regret it!
Amazing professor and easy A or B. Exams have two attempts, he also gives extra credit and is a fair grader. His criteria for lab grading is very clear, as most of the class got A's and B's
I cant say enough about Dr. Chu in only 350 characters. If you see a spot open in his class then TAKE HIM. He is incredibly funny and VERY passionate about Physics. Even though I got a B, I'd LOVE to retake the class just to hear his lectures. I'm from Boston and honestly he should be teaching at MIT in my opinion. HCC is VERY lucky to have him.
The first professor I've ever had to keep me thoroughly engaged throughout an evening lecture. He made learning about Physics so entertaining, and I enjoyed the labs.
He is the best physics professor at HCC. easy to understand his lectures. give extra credit and a bonus for you if you only come to class. The exams are 80% like the exam review.
I would definitely take Professor Chu again, attendance is mandatory, he makes lectures easy to understand. Take him you would not regret it!
I had him for 6233-ASTR-1304-Solar System-S2-13121 Take him, his reviews is the same as the exams! Some questions are not on there, but he gives you 3 chances to retake your test. Some test were on Lock down with Web, some were not, but like I said the reviews are just like the test. You'll do great!
Dr. Chu's teaching style is an art. His labs are an exercise in learning physics via immersion. A great teacher and by far my favorite part of the HCC experience.
Awesome class. Awesome guy. Definitely worth taking.
Professor Chu is a charismatic instructor. Extremely helpful when you approach him personally for specific questions. A very generous grader as well.
Take him! Especially because of the course itself I thought I was going to struggle. The textbook is included and you just do the hw which is mostly on quizlet. The tests are either lockdown browser or without it. The practice tests are the exact same as whats on the test so you should be fine. Overall would def take again.
Interesting and easy class. 4 exams and online homewoek, few lower score homework and one lowest exam will be dropped. Super helpful Professor during office hours and very fast email response. Lecture videos are pretty interesting. Lots of extra credit like 5 total points added to the final grade. Ending the class with a 95%!
This teacher was not too bad. Only issue is the four module tests are due every sunday at noon but the test opens Saturday at noon. Giving 24 hours to do it so if this doesn't work for your schedule you may have some problems. Two of the tests were lockdown. Lastly, the program used is not the best but overall very manageable class.
Professor Chu is always there to help, pretty chill and likes to make people laugh. I looked forward to his class everyday.
If you want to take the best online Engineering Physics I lab and learn a lot, take him. He is absolutely amazing!
Really cool record lectures, easy homework assignments and exams. He makes sure non-science majors enjoy the course. Also, he replies emails super fast!
Professor Chu is a good professor, first time experiance taking a lab online and it wasn't bad. The labs are well organized which are in canvas. But he still tells you how to do it, and what materials to use. One final exam, 9 lab reports. With taking an online class hope you are lucky and have a good group that is on top of it. But take him though
He likes Geography and he is kind of funny. Take him if you want to enjoy Physics.
Professor Chu always did a really good job of explaining difficult concepts in lectures, and he included a lot of humor in his lectures, so I genuinely looked forward to them each week.
He is a great professor! I enjoyed the online lectures and my online interactions with him. Exams are easy if you study the study guides. The lecture materials is very well-organised and available on canvas. He gives extra credit too. Take him if you can!
Truly an amazing professor that cares about students' understanding of the materials! The way the exams are set up is very innovative and forgiving. He is one of the best astronomy professors at HCC. He cares if you understand the material learned in class.
All of the homework was in the textbook. The exams are exactly like the test review, so do the test review and you will be fine. The only thing I struggled with was the excessive amount of math. There was some taught in a few lectures, but most of it wasn't and it also was not in the textbook. The professor seems nice and understanding.
Prof. Chu's PHYS1401 class was a blast! His engaging lectures and hands-on labs made learning physics super fun. I'd highly recommend using unstuck ai along with the free textbook for exam prep - it really helped me stay on top of the material.
Diligent professor, but can be snarky sometimes, and hard to put up with his dialogue. Goes over the topic and shows you how to do the lab. Sometimes challenging but simple labs and lab reports. Final was pretty scuffed though. Half of everything was never covered.
My actual review is for ASTR 1304 but its not listed so I placed it under 1303. Anyways, he is very caring and shows his knowlegde of the course. The 1st and 3rd exams are lockdown and webcam free, while the 2nd exam and final arent. I recommend to study his reviews as they are heavly similar to exams. Its not 100% exactly the same though.
He's oddly vague in emails and multiple lab partners have had to ask him things individually to try to get a clear answer. The final for this class is more based on the physics lecture than the lab so extra studying is required if you're taking this class before the lecture. There's no final review and questions about it will usually be ignored
his class consists of 8 group labs, and 1 final exam. I highly recommend you to pair this class with university physics because the final is nothing like the material learned in the class, and on top of that there is no final review. Other than that his class is organized and his lectures made it easy to understand the material.
PHYS 1402 Summer term 2025, Professor Chu was an excellent professor and teacher! Overall, an engaging and very informative class. Was willing to dive into the weeds to explain complex topics!
This course, led by Professor Chu, significantly deepened understanding of the topics. Lectures were clear and focused, especially on key concepts frequently tested on homework and exams. The course's logical flow and cohesive structure further enhanced the learning experience. Taking a class with such a brilliant physics professor is a privilege.
This was the best science lab experience I ever had. Professor Chu is knowledgeable and patient and cares about student learning. His mini lectures before each experiment were clear and helped connect the lab work to the theoretical concepts from lecture. He is always available to answer questions. We even had lab to determine Planck's constant!
Professor Chu was outstanding! He's genuinely funny and clearly cares about his students' success. If you review the old practice exams and understand the homework, you'll be well-prepared for the class. One of the best professors I've ever had.
Best Astronomy professor at HCCS. Learn a tons from Professor Chu! Easy exams!!
Didn't really live up to the reviews to which led me to taking the class. However, does reply to emails but very little feedback in responses. The homework is very tedious I personally wouldn't take again this professor again. Especially online however it is do able, it's not too bad.
Dr Chu is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. I have taken two classes with him and I wish I could take more!
Dont respond when you email him. Have a bad attitude towards students. Dont care pass or fail.
Great online lab and honestly just an amazing person as well. He clearly cares about his students and lab reports and final are pretty fair. I am amazed that the online lab is very well taught.
Professor Chu is clearly passionate about what he teaches, and he does a good job explaining the materials online. He is a lenient grader and responds the email promptly!
Best science requirement for non-science majors!
Professor Chu is hands-down the best instructor I've ever had. His course is exceptionally well-organized, with clear, and engaging lectures that reinforce key concepts. Despite being one of the easiest classes I've taken, it was also one of the most enjoyable and intellectually rewarding. I would recommend his astronomy course without hesitation!
Very interactive class. A reversed classroom (with videos, and pre-class questions). Online homework sets were easy. Very interesting topics and taught well.
Funny and inspirational professor. Definitely loves the content that he teaches, and his passion for the material is contagious. Would 10/10 recommend.
Dr Chu is an excellent professor who takes time to answer questions and help students understand the materials. I am recommending him to several other students.
Dr. Chu's class is a pretty straightforward physics class. He's a good lecturer and the homework is easy. The tests are very similar to his reviews, so preparing for the exams is not difficult at all. You can easily reach him outside of class if you need help. Attendance is mandatory and graded, so it's important to show up to class.
Truly cares about student success. Always willing to help during office hours and explains things multiple ways until it clicks. Encourages questions and creates a comfortable learning environment. Physics felt intimidating before this class, but not anymore.
Exams were due by a window. It was inconvenient to say the least.
Easy Class for Science credit!
