Always willing to help students no matter how much time it takes.
This professor really cares for the academic well being of his committed students. He tends to ask questions that require thorough knowledge of the subject matter. So do not expect to breeze past his course. Don't expect it to be easy but know that if you are willing to put in the effort outside of class to do well, that he will help VERY much
He co-teaches with David Ardell. A lot better than Ardell, more "jolly". But this class is still difficult. It sucks up all of your time to study for tests. Had to waste $50 for a "clicker" that we barely use too. Essentially just used to keep track of who shows up for points.
He is a great teacher. People who do not put in the effort to study will not succeed his class. People at school that complain about this teacher are lazy. He is not the teacher to just hand you the answers.... just like any UNIVERSITY COLLEGE TEACHER. Study hard and you'll get the grade you deserve.
Cares about us
This professor likes to help students pass, especially because of all the extra credit he gives. If he only provided some study guides or clearer guidelines on what he wants us to know,he wouldn't have to do that.He seems like a good guy.His class is difficult. You either study as much as possible or nothing at all to avoid confusion over subjects
This professor is the best I have ever had. His course forced me to work very hard and it surely paid off. This course involves deep reading, so just don't read and memorize; make connections and the material will become clearer as you go along.
He teaches you how to learn, which is better than just memory. Only later you will appreciate how valuable this is to your learning. Really learnt a lot by the end of the class. Deep reading, associations, reflection, really appreciate biology.
He's ok but I recommend that he is your last resort
Terrible professor. He is extremely perverse in class and DOES NOT care about students. He believes that he is always right, when in fact, he is not. He prefers that his students do not ask questions and just listen to him rant about his "rightness." He should be your very last resort!
This teacher is great! He is passionate about the subject and he is very encouraging. He does help with tactics and techniques of how to approach the material. Plus his lectures are entertaining - I haven't fell asleep even once. 1 con - tests are Hard and sometimes a little tricky. lecture slides are super-helpful for studying.
Office Hours were not worth going to - his advice was to study LESS!! If you are not "science-minded" do NOT take this class, he is not helpful. Off-color remarks in lecture veer towards the wildly offensive. Hard work does not pay off.
Unless you are a science major avoid this professor. The class averages on the 4 exams preceding the final were failing. He comes off as wanting to hear himself speak. Can be difficult to keep up with his asides (they tend to be more helpful when studying than the info on the actual slides).
Humorous
This class is unbelievably chaotic. Dulai is "teaching" from an online book but the web site is so buggy it is useless. I have only been able to complete 2 out of ALL the online assignments so far because of all the bugs. Prof. Dulai shows NO concern and is RUDE. Class is on the verge of mutiny. This guy needs to GO. What a waste of money.
Extremely difficult exams. Very funny guy. Useless in office hours. Make sure you study about 40 hours prior to each test and read every fine print.
Lectures are fairly concise although he typically doesn't get all the way through and you have to read the ppts independently. Otherwise, I got an A by concentrating on ppt material and minimal textbook reading. He's willing to adapt his teaching style for the class. Lectures are entertaining but exams can be tricky, so study up.
This professor wasted my money. He is unprofessional, unclear, rude, and does not show concern for student's problems in the course. He relies on Bioportal grades to give out a final grade, but Bioportal doesn't work correctly half the time. Lectures are useless and exams are hard.
Dr. Dulai is there to help you learn. He prides himself in learning. He really knows his stuff. Great Bio prof
As others have stated, Dulai really wants to make sure you truly learn the material. He has high academic standards for students. His exams are difficult, often jabbing at the small but key details. However,if you are willing to invest the time and effort to READ THE TEXTBOOK (to really obtain that in-depth knowledge) and STUDY you will do well!
His class is very hard. I mean it. I am a nerd, and I study my butt off for every class. this was the only class that I had F till last minute. He curved at the end. not a good Idea. I didnt learn anything in this class. because the tests were multiple choice, and if you think: well that should be easy, you are extremely wrong. Hardest M.C. tests.
Good professor, tough class, read the book and hope for the best. Exams have 5 right answers but only one correct answer, so you need to know the material inside and out.
He's a great lecturer. Poor at making some things clear, but he keeps you awake and very creative on his teaching. He's much better for this course than Rudy the course developer.
This class is so hard but Dulai makes it better. If you must take Bio classes then take them with this professor, this work is still outrageous but he is a fare grader and you will pass if you do all of you work and come to class.
Dulai wants you to learn! His teaching style demands students do not memorize and that rattles some of them. I submitted to his style and I am now thankful for it. I am now a better student. He sticks to his principles and does not care about evaluations. He gives these after the final exam. My best professor ever! You will learn a lot about life.
He is great man! loved his cancer lecture.
he is a good proffessor for bio
Dr. Dulai gives great examples, and keeps the lectures interesting. He tells you exactly what he expects from you, which is a lot. You can't just memorize in this class, you have to understand the material, and this shakes up many students who like to memorize. Study to learn, and you will remember; study to remember, and you will forget.
As long as you read the textbook and show up, you will pass. He gives INSANE amounts of extra credit.
reading the text a must, not very helpful outside of class
I am a fourth year bio chemistry double major and Dulai is by far the easiest professor i have ever had. The only reason people think he is hard is because they arent science majors and they have difficulty understanding him. As long as you somewhat stay up on the readings and attend class it is an easy class.
I am not a science major and found his class easy. What a student needs to do is keep up with the reading. I did not find the lectures too helpful and seldom payed attention to them, unless it was a movie day. Read the book thoroughly (not skimming) and you will succeed.
Dulai is one of the best Bio teachers i had, he is really enthusiastic in teaching Bio and it is really evident in his lectures.
Awesome Professor!
The most entertaining class I have ever had! He is the very best at UC.Merced. Seek out dulai if you have any bio classes. Had some issues with his TAs one semester. Bad wrap for him.
he runs the class well but discussion is another story. bad communication between him and his ta made things difficult. one of his teaching aides just sucked
lectures are pretty much useless and he never really answers students questions. He mainly relies on Bioportal and his TAs to teach yet he has really bad communication with his TAs
EASY PROFESSOR AND EASY CLASS, I JUST REGRET NOT DOING WELL ON THE QUIZES, ANYONE COULD GET AN "A" ON THIS CLASS
Really easy, honestly just keep up with all the homework and bioportal because it really boosts your grade. If someone really tries there is no reason not to get A.
Because the course is supposed to be 2 semesters it is very fast paced. Dulai tries his best but often runs out of time in lecture. He is easy going and forgiving. He heavily relies on BIO portal for many things including test questions so make sure to use it often. Easy class just study for quizzes and test as usual.
He makes biolgy interesting as it should be. Dr. Dulai has the best in class illustrations, where he gets his students to participate little examples he performs to demostrate complicated pathways and makes it easy to lear. He also cares about all of his students and is willing to beyond measures to help on reach their goals.
There was quite a lot of information learned in this class and it is very fast-paced. I stopped trying in the middle of the semester but I was still able to pass thanks to his huge curve. Just do all your bioportal and do fair on the quizzes and you'll be fine. I failed all the midterms but I still got a B- so don't worry too much!
Honestly Dr. Dulai makes his class easy. I gave up by mid semester and didn't pass the class. The tests were hard for me but because I didn't attend lecture I didn't get extra credit. I thought lectures weren't important but they are! no one forces you to go but it is very NECESSARY!!!! Do the work and you will pass for sure!
Dulai is Awesome ! type of professor who is willing to help you if you actually ask for help !
Students did not do well on his second mid-term, which he made demanding on us. Instead of backing down he kept his standards very high because he wanted us to know the material. Students complained. Many students came around and began to really take the class seriously. Well, in the end I learnt so much more than just genetics. I learned to study.
I love the lectures he gives. One word of warning: There's a LOT of online stuff to do, and he won't mention it in class much. No other class does this much online stuff, check that REGULARLY, it IS graded. It's really easy, but there's a lot of it.
I hated how in depth he went for a non-major requirement. I am a business major (senior) and had no interest in the subject, furthermore his weekly quizzes in discussion were tough to pass. This is definitely a course for freshmen. In the end he curves the grades, which is helpful. Don't expect an A if you're not devoted to biology
As long as you read the textbook for the quizzes in the discussions and study the assignments for the exams, you will be okay. However, the exams are cumulative so you have to study past chapters.
Dr. Dulai is a great professor. Bio 01 is normally suppose to be taught in 2 semesters but he managed to teach it in 1. He is very inspirational in his lectures and teaches well. Read the book, I know people hate to read but just read it and you'll receive and A. Do the homework, go to office hours and you'll be fine!
Quizzes can be difficult but if you read and try to really learn the material you will get an A.
Horrible. That's all I can say.
Makes learning fun with lots of jokes and alternative learning stories!
Overall pretty good teacher. Very enthusiastic and helpful when you have questions. Friends say he is also helpful in other bio classes.
For biology 2, he teaches similarly like a graduate class. If you do not study and pre-read everything, you will not succeed or even pass the class. His teaching format has changed and implemented team learning. You need to focus closely throughout with deep reading, which takes 5 hours at a time. Be prepared to study for this class.
60 to 70% of the students are currently failing Biology 002 with this new teaching style implemented. If he curves, there is a chance to pass but right now not sure if many of us will make it out of this class.
I am just a freshman in Bio 002. If I knew it was going to be this hard, I would have taken it at a community college over the summer. I have straight A's in all my classes except this class, where I am borderline C and D. This class is hard. Make sure to perform deep reading and go to every office hour and try to learn how to apply information.
Dulai is a very nice guy and enjoyable to be around which makes it painful to write this review. Basically, you cannot trust anything this man says. He will say one thing and do the other. He frequently changes the point values of quizzes and midterms, tells us things are on tests when they are not, tests us on things from another textbook he uses.
Well well well! It is almost the end of the semester and guess what the students are going better. Looks like he was right in that it would take the full semester to learn how to study in teams. Most of the class is now passing. I am getting it now! And we still have about 40% of our grades to earn. Well done, Sir.
We pulled through at the last moment. The class overall is very hard and since it is the first time doing team learning, it was rather unorganized. Overall, if you work hard you can pass.
Now the semester of s over and I managed a decent grade, I think I like the new format. The class was flipped so we had to do the reading and come to class where we worked in small groups to test our understanding. Many students cheated on the HW assignments. We would just copy each other at the last minute. It don't think that was the purpose.
Towards the end of the semester we were given two online discussion assignments. These proved to be very useful as there was so much good information exchanged between us. I learned so much from the class. More than just about cell mil bio. I learnt how to share work with others. Take him if you can.
Class was skewed so that many points were available near the end. Dulai does this so that students can adapt and learn before they get dinged near the end. Helped me a lot because it took me a bunch of time to jive with my team and learn how to deep read the book. I did very well in the end and a got decent grade. I THINK I am ready for Bio110!
Dulai's teaching style resembles a father who won't let you watch your tv show (Lecture) because of all the features he wants to show you on the remote (Tophat). His lectures are pointless and are no more than a regurgitation of the textbook.
His tests were not at all based off his lecture material, but he gave us a ridiculous amount of extra credit at the end. I don't think it's the correct way to compensate but I'm not complaining.
Dulai is a good lecturer. He makes sure that you understand the material. The semester started off a little messy format wise, but he got it together and the class was running smoothly towards the end. Be prepared to read. His exams are HARD! They are based on the material he teaches, but the questions are very difficult. No curve, but some EC.
Learned so much about how the cell works, from where we came from to what we are! He has a way of making it blend together, and his way of explaining was admired by my group! If you get a chance to take this class with him, I would REALLY recommend it. Got the grade that I deserved because I did not read the textbook much - not a reader, but pass.
Don't skip class - if you do, don't have your friend send you the attendance code... you will get caught. Ridiculous homeworks that had you scouring the textbook for questions that don't even matter; you had to pay attention to small details in the corner of the book to get the correct answer. Some questions weren't even in the book or lecture.
I disagree with the last reviewer. I followed his advise clearly and by the middle of the semester i was 'deep reading.' Once that happened it all fell into place and I have been able to use these skills in other classes to raise my grades. If you get a chance to take him please do so. It is a lot of work at the beginning but as I said it works!
Dr. Dulai gives far too many quizzes and forces students to memorize every sentence and figure from the book. Counts on students overlooking tiny figures to make wildly specific quiz questions. Exams are poorly phrased and the averages were often 60-70%. Bio 110 comes after this course, has more complicated processes and vocab, and is still easier.
Overall difficult class to get adjusted to, everything that you learn is based on your readings. Come to class prepared (deep read EVERYTHING). I find it a little unnecessary to quiz us every lecture, but I suppose it promotes good reading. Most of the time lecture time is allotted to quiz taking and activities, so there is minimal class "lecture".
You MUST MUST MUST read to pass the class. Everything is based off of the reading. Get used to quizzes because you have will MULTIPLE a week. Homework, 2 in class quizzes, discussion quizzes, and fundmental quizzes on catcourses. Tests get harder and harder, not because of the material but because of the way he words the question- confusing.
Dulai is honestly just terrible. He seems so approachable during class but he's actually an arrogant narcissist. He doesn't really teach so he expects you to "deep read" the textbook. Meaning reading each section multiple times and reading all the pictures. If you don't do this you will NOT pass. Doesn't care about your personal situations.
Professor Dulai has the ability to be an amazing teacher, but he chooses not to. When he chooses to lecture he captivates everyones attention. Absolutely great. But he chooses to do the discussion type lecture style which is over all not affective.
There will be 2 quizzes in every class, he force you into groups at the beginning regardless of whether you want to be in a group, homework has little to do with the actual chapter (the questions tend to be taken from a Quizlet set for another textbook). He dose, however, do highly informative demonstrations and has stellar enthusiasm for biology.
Had his this summer and wow what a breath of fresh air! He puts you into groups and at first I did not agree, but once we began taking with each other it was worth it. He is moving his classes to a new format which he talks about. After giving it a chance to work the class seemed to like it. I think I leaned loads!
Took this class over the summer and loved it. The "deep reading" that he emphasized seems daunting, but when you actually start reading the text thoroughly, the quizzes are not that bad. Explanations are thorough & he will clarify if asked. Overall very knowledgeable but you must do the reading to pass! Deep reading is useful and I still use it now
Great professor, just too much emphasis on testing (quizzes everyday, long exams). Several E.C. Opport., USE THEM, I got over 70pts E.C. in total. Final was horrible, but got an A- in the class, I got a B- in Bio 1 btw. I would not consider myself a genius, I just put in the study time everyday. Watch the videos, and do the reading preparedness...
You have to pay to do your homework online and attend every discussion section. Before the final I had a solid B and after taking the final, he changed the grades dropping me a whole two letter grade down. He said he made a mistake inputting something and with the final already in, my grade was one percent from passing. He DOES NOT CURVE.
Do not take this class if you dont have to. He doesnt teach in class and expects you to know everything by reading. Horrible teacher. Hard exams. One average for a test in his class was 57% which says a lot about his teaching. Only get a 1 out of 5 cuz theres no option for 0/5.
Dulai is without a doubt the worst teacher in the UC Merced BIO department. He tests you on material that he does NOT explain to you, he deflects both questions and criticisms and is often disrespectful. Be ready for intentionally misleading test questions and "40+ hours of reading per week". I have had him multiple times and am worse off for it.
Dulai was the worst professor iv'e had here at UC Merced. He modeled this class on active learning which was the biggest waste of time. He barley lectured about the material. Every class we would have to take a quiz on the material we had to read before class. And the tests are cumulative. Again WORST PROFESSOR!
Worst teacher ever if you can take him over the summer. he expects you to know things he does not teach a lot of reading required. DO NOT take alongside chem your grades will suffer. if you do not read you will not pass. Quiz before and after the lecture. Midterms are based on things that were not taught. I pray for any Bio major who has to take it
My main advice would be to not read Top Hat unless you don't understand the textbook. To pass you WILL need to read the assigned reading in the book. Although there is a team of professors he hogs the teaching and for 90% of the lectures you go to he will be talking. His teaching in lectures is good but that's about it. Homework and labs harder
This professor was horrible but I will not let that defy my passion for the subject. This term he made inappropriate jokes, contradicted the other two professors multiple times, and spoke over them, in which we can all conclude was very disrespectful. Email him? Yeah he might take a while, just depends on how he feels. Tests are difficult. GoodLuck
He is the worst professor to walk this planet earth. avoid him at all costs. he assigns more homework than there are words in all of this worlds languages. hes a terrible professor. theres no time to rest or even do other class homework. he assigns 10-15 hours of homework everyday and theres literally no way to avoid it. worst professor EVER.
He's horrible. I got an A, but I honestly don't feel like I learned anything. You have to teach yourself 100% of the material because he NEVER lectures live. I obviously put in the work, so it's not my ethic or effort, it's him. If you say you don't agree with him/the way he teaches, even after he ASKS for criticism, he gets hostile and defensive.
You have to teach yourself everything, relies on the textbook so much. Wish this class was taught by someone else
Solid choice for a professor. A big proponent for active learning, but he's pretty direct with what he wants you to know--although sometimes the level of understanding expected is a little much. Pretty reading-intensive but it pays off later! When reading, aside from terms, understand the figures. EC at the end and go to office hours.
I took him for bio 002 and liked his teachings tyle a lot. after taking him for 152 I do think that his way of teaching is incredibly effective if and only if you are prepared to do the readings before class and actively participate in class
Bad way of teaching, the course alone its already hard and him spending more time assigning quizzes than actually lecturing makes the course harder.
Be prepared to spend much time reading the book teaching yourself the topics. The lectures are summaries and arent in depth. So expect to teach yourself. Dulai is unorganized in addition to the Tophat which can contain technical issues even during tests.
Honestly, he is such a bad professor. He didn't help us when we needed questions, dismissed us when we needed help, and changed something on the rubric for a project two days before it was due. He didn't teach us anything and I had to teach myself everything in this class.
Honestly in my life Ive had 3 teachers that have made me hate learning and with out a doubt kamal has to be the main one or take that spot. He doesnt teach , you have to teach yourself and to top it off he will switch the rubrick of projects mere days before the deadline . I dont recommend him hes stuck up and prideful and if you do get him ...
Dulai was the worst teacher I have ever had in the last 13 years I've done school. He barely taught my class section and it was an overall horrible experience. I received an 85% and by the grace of his curve, I received an A-. I only got this grade through teaching myself and having LOTS of peer study sessions. I would NOT recommend this teacher.
Not going to lie, hes the worst Professor Ive every had. He does not teach anything at all and youll use TopHat for the majority of his class and all he does is complain about issues TopHat has and doesnt even do anything about it. Dont recommend taking him.
You can get an A with Kamal. Is it worth it? No! Very unclear and treats his classes differently. Exam averages were around 50% and he didn't care. Dulai made us spend money on TopHat which didn't even work. The only thing you can do is read the book and isn't always enough. He's sneaky (changes grades without telling us) and plays victim.
One of the worst professors in my life so far. Absolutely tedious and harsh exams and quizzes. I passed with barely an A.
worst professor yet. Hes treats his classes differently and changed the weight of the grade book 12 hours before our final exam with no heads up
Awful professor.
Horribly disorganized, assignments don't have due dates on canvas and there was no syllabus either. Assigns a ridiculous amount of quizzes, at least one every lecture plus online quizzes. Expects you to do the readings and teach yourself then quizzes you before he even teaches the topic himself.
Dulai is one of the worst professors you can meet. I took him in Fall 2020 summer and he used to make us do the iRAT and tRAT. His exams are so heavy and they go into detail. Make sure you pay attention to EVERYTHING.
Most of the material you have to learn yourself. There isn't any good study material or lectures that he offers to make the work load more bearable. The quizzes are decent, but not worth your time because 80% would not be in the midterms. The UVI's and disccsuion post are a waste time and does not established any learning being done.
I heard many bad experiences about his classes, but his class structure makes sense, it promotes understanding of the subject not memorization. He primarily teaches intro classes so of course freshmen/sophomores would say it's hard and difficult, but this is what college classes are. You need to work for the grade. Not an easy A but not impossible.
One of the greatest professors Ive ever had. His lectures are amazing and not to mention hilarious, he keeps the lectures interesting and makes you want to learn. Class has lots of homework and beware of quizzes every lecture, but if you read in advance youll be good for the quizzes. Earning an A is difficult but its possible, put the work in.
One of the greatest professors Ive had so far. His lectures are amazing and hilarious, he keeps the class interested in the topics. The class has lots of homework and beware of quizzes every lecture. If you do the required readings, youll be good for the quizzes. Exams are difficult, study hard. Earning an A is difficult but possible, put work in
Probably the worst class I've ever taken. There were so many little assignments due constantly, each with weird due dates. Discussion sections consisted only of individual worksheets and almost no actual discussion. Lectures were mandatory, but not helpful at all. The expectations on students were insane for an intro biology course.
By far the most passionate professor/teacher I have ever had. Had a lot of fun during the class. Just make sure to attend and be extremely attentive during class and attend office hours.
With professor dulai you can truly tell he loves teaching bio 002, after all, it is the only class he teaches at UC Merced (which he has monopolized year after year). He has the enthusiasm and is overall a great explainer. The thing is, he just isn't that nice of a human being. Sometimes he can come across very rude and its obvious he lacks empathy
He is a great explainer, but boy his lectures and homework won't help you for the exams. Some of the questions ask don't even make any sense. I'm barely in the beginning and am nervous for the end. I am only taking this because he's the only professor for this class.
you can tell that he likes teaching bio but makes his class unbearable. they make pre-lecture quizzes based on reading and two quizzes in each lecture and are very unaccommodating. lecture attendance is mandatory. i'm a bio major and have never disliked a bio class until now. dulai be making me lose passion for my major fr. only take if no options.
This man is so out of order, gives you like a packet or worksheets during discussion to finish and grades on how many pages all the classes did. Has some of the worst midterms who ever had the idea of making a midterm basically be a final, has some serious issues that they need to work out. The white lady that made the ALA format is somethingelse
He makes funny jokes in class, however, he gives us so much work. We once had to work on TEN pages of discussion worksheets within an hour. They don't update the due dates until everybody has to ask them about it. You can't catch him after lectures, ever. He gives good lectures though.
This class could have easily been 100x better if it wasn't so disorganized. Insane amount of work given during discussion and SO MANY QUIZZES, two for every lecture in fact. Although Dulai is a very engaging and funny lecturer and I can usually understand what is being taught. Reading the textbook beforehand helps A LOT with quizzes and midterms.
He made the students share their location so that it could be proven that they attended lectures. He is very strict on not sharing anytype of work with other students, yet he steals other universities work and passes it off as his own. How do we know? Because he gave assignments from University of Colorado while still having that school's logo.
Dulai makes this course look structured initially, but it gets disorganized as the semester progresses. In order to do well in this course, I would suggest attending lectures and completing pre-lecture work primarily on the textbook readings. Complete all the discussion forums, homework, UVIs, and complete the video project early you will do fine.
Between the two professors for BIO 002 I will say Dulai is better at lecturing than Alkouri. Dulai explains concepts better and sometimes provides a skit. This class does use TopHat to do iRAT and tRAT questions, so make sure to attend lectures and answer every question. There is a group video project so make sure you start early and get it done.
Bio110 is MUCH easier than Bio2 with Dulai. Grades fair & structure of this course allows students to get an A in class - get 100% assignments/quizzes then you can score poorly on exams. Study textbook, attend lectures, take notes. Class is do-able - I got a C in bio2 w/ dulai but did much better in bio110 b/c course structure is manageable.
This class sucked, they taught us very poorly and taught very little of what we had to actually know. Lots of stupid assignments like connecting microbiology topics to everyday life. Tophat quizzes and homework assignments were super specific and often felt unnecessarily difficult. I'm glad to be done with this class.
So many assignments it feels suffocating.
The learning set up is so bizarre. You're required to know the material before coming to class, because the first thing you do is take a 6 - 10 question quiz. Despite going to mid-term review sessions, reviewing lecture slides and rereading textbook chapters, most of the material on the exams are asking things we've never covered or read about.
Dr. Dulai's class has been extremely stressful, unorganized and not effective at teaching. The expectations for exams are unclear and what is covered on the exams is not material discussed in lectures nor in homework exercises. I have had an extremely negative experience in Dr. Dulai's class and I will consider changing my major because of this.
Little guidance from professors when things are due like projects and homework. It is a reverse structured class where you learn the content before class or you won't understand the lecture. When students asked for more guidance for tests, the professors said no and that students will learn how to study better after failing their first test-my TA
You will end up teaching yourself, finding your own videos, and seeking other professors to help with the class. He rarely prepares you for anything, throwing a bunch of resources at you seems like a good idea at first but instead the exam shows that half of it was unneeded nor brought up ever again. Some questions are also from other universities
This class was insanely hard. Do not take it unless you want 2 quizzes per lecture (1 of which is taken at the start of class before they even taught the material) insanely hard textbook that was written by a genius, exams that are so hard the average is an F, fast paced lectures that aren't even helpful, and writing full lab reports each week.
Very tough class, made students drop out of Natural Science School and switch majors.... But I would say in the beginning of the course they try and "scare" you in a way. Do ALL the assignments and do well in the group project, study, and maybe read you'll be fine. Good luck!
Hands down worst professor I've had. Makes you pay for a laggy website to participate in class when he can easily post the slides and textbook on catcourses for free. Class is disorganized. You're expected to study the textbook, compendium, pre-lecture videos, pre-lecture quizzes, iRAT quizzes, tRAT quizzes, homework quizzes, and lecture slides.
Had him for Bio 2 and 110. Never understood the hate for him. Biology isn't supposed to be a easy subject to learn which is why people complain and blame the prof. 1st day of class he provides a clear schedule which tells you what is expected every day throughout the entire semester. There's no curve balls and you just have to be willing to read.
While he was not a bad teacher- clearly very passionate, be prepared to spend an hour on the homework alone x3 a week, and that is if you understand the material. You must read your text book to complete the HW that's due before the lecture- luckily he gives you as many tries as needed for your grade. Your grade is determined by your own drive.
He does a good job teaching the lectures, and explaining how the content applies to your life. Unfortunately, the material on the pre-lecture work, lectures, quizzes, homework, and exam isn't always the same. He wants you to understand, not just memorize, but the exams clearly want you to memorize. All exams are taken online from wherever you want.
Dr. Kamal is a respected professor. Nutrition was an easy class for filling a GE requirement. He gives a lot of homework in which there are a lot of readings each week, but they're relative easy using Quizlet. Quizzes & discussion are held only in class, so it's important to not skip. Exams are a good a mount of questions, but they're take home.
Honestly he is a good professor if you put time and effort into his class and then he does take attendance but as long as your there he can be leanient to one absence
Professor Dulai is disorganized, causing stress for students and TAs. Exams were difficult, but not based on lectures. Attendance policies were strict & insensitive, requiring extensive proof for even minor absences. This created an unproductive and anxiety-filled environment. Not recommended until improvements are made.
I had him for spark metacognition 2023-2024. very disorganized doesn't explain well and doesn't read emails. Had my High B dropped to a D due to a poorly explain paper that was somehow worth more than the final. Gave us free pass but when I tried to use it he never put it down. tests every class that greatly effectives grades.
This class makes me want to jump in front of those CatTrack buses while my immune system to misfires and kills every cell in my body. His lectures are shallow and do little to prepare you for exams, and most if not all of your learning is from the reading homework. The first exam was disorganized as he wasn't even present to proctor his own exam.
He has no structure in his class. He made all of his midterms CUMULATIVE meaning every midterm only added more and more chapter to study for. Every lecture he only spent 3 seconds per slide and there was so much content that he would assign us. his exams were 70 MC questions in just 60 mins. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I don't know why he is a professor. Lets just leave it at that...
He is an obstacle to your education, not an asset. You are going to be better off waiting for another professor to teach the same material next semester. Do not test your time, money, effort, and mental fortitude for his class. He may seem chill at first, but you will soon realize that you should've dropped out, and it may already be too late...
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSA very bad professor has so many exams that are all CUMULATIVE and he assigns so much hw and readings is always late to lectures and never present for exams He spends 2 sec per side and moves on and packs so much into the lec He is not a good professorVERY unprofessional by far one of the most unorganized professors andclasses
This class is known for its high difficulty. While the professor is clearly passionate, the workload is intense - expect to spend hours on homework and extensive reading. Utilize resources like Unstuck study and study groups to stay on top of the material.
The exams in this class are extremely difficult and do not reflect the lecture material well. Lectures are mandatory but often feel unhelpful, as the professor does not explain concepts clearly or connect them to the exams. Overall, the class feels disorganized, and the professor does not effectively support student learning. Would not recommend.
Didn't show up to the midterms and describes the tests as a "treasure hunt" during office hours. The midterms are cumulative, and the topics very wildly from the textbook and lecture slides. There are 4 midterms and a final.
I didn't mind the class it was overall very organized since it was the same routine of the homework everyweek but it was just a lot with all midterms being cumulative.
took him in summer for bio011 and he was ridiculous, exams were tedious and he was of no help. do not take him especially in summer. dont even try of trying with him. not worth it
his summer class is really easy. a lot of work though and fast paced but trust me it was not bad.
Abuse of power & unorganized. Strict on due dates (submitted an assignment 2 seconds late and didn't receive credit), however he decided to change the format of our final from a paper to verbal submission (without notes) in less than 1 week's notice. Please don't take this professor if you value your time, education, and a consistent syllabus.
let me just say. what a disaster of a professor. I rather be in prison.
Took his course over the summer. He is a very negative man and complains constantly. You almost feel like you're never enough in his course. Oral exams were easier than expected. Tons of homework and lecture quizzes. I dreaded coming to class sheerly because his attitude is terrible about everything. Absolute negative Nelly. Do not recommend taking
