Funny and cute, in some way... He likes esskilled esstudents! Worth taking!
He sucks. He is a terrible teacher and explains things horribly. Terrible
If you wake up you will realize he sucks
imcomprehensible, and sooooo boring.. but not too hard
Lots of math..boring, but class presentations were very helpful...
hahahah, can't get over the "esskilled esstudents"!! it's so true! not sure if the prof was good or the course was too easy... he's a chill guy though. talks reeaaallly sloowwwlyyyy
He just plain and simply cannot teach. Ask him a question and you will see that he cannot answer. He is a nice person, however a terrible professor. Avoid at all costs.
Horrible!!! He dosen't understand english, computers, or anything at all. Great teacher for thoses of you who want to go nowhere in life.
I only attend lectures because he is so hot
sweet, sweet, teddy-bear-like man, but can't teach at all.
"The eeeslope of the curve is x eeesquared". He is funny though and I feel that I learned a great deal from the course. But be prepared: HE TALKS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOW!
he is so f*&^ing boring, and english is definitely not his forte.
Terrible teacher, but if you don't go to class you'll be fine because he teaches right out of the book. Tends to recycle material, so make sure to get past exams
Horrible! He can't even speak English. He speaks so slowly you just want to shake him and yell "spit it out already." Avoid if you don't want to go insane.
Am I the only one who sees that he's a great teacher?! Seriously, he's good and I don't think he's THAT slow. And I've seen worse cases!
Bad.....just read the book and you'll be fine.
Nice guy, just a bit of a scatter brain. Prepare for a tough final. He's actually a pretty funny guy.
Hes a great teacher, if you go to class and do the assgnments you'll get a good grade!
am i the only one who gets how amazing the teacher is?
nice guy........easy grader
Please McGill, hire teachers who can speak english properly. He's a smart guys but he can't understand what he says and he teachers straight out of the book.
if you ever have trouble falling asleep, goto his class...works better than a lullaby!
Nice guy, cant speak english though, class is boring, easy grader...good intentions
Hey Guys...I think hs a great teacher...
I think he's a great guy, a great Prof... Always around if you have a question, and he puts so much emphasis on what's important, it's hard not to know what to expect on an exam...
Good guy, but material is very boring
Really nice guy, but the material and presentation of it is very dry. There is little point in going to class because he teaches right out of the textbook. Alot of the topics are very confusing and not really clearly explained different than the textbook.
Good proffessor, but some explainations on the harder topics were difficult to understand. Very pleasent as a person.
the most boring class ever. you don't have to show up cuz he just repeat whatever is on the slides. and his final will not make sense about what he "taught" you in class. but nice man though.
Boring, and a horrible teacher. This was my first ever economics class, and I think he made me hate economics.
so boring. u don't have to show up to class. if u do, u'll probably fall asleep. just read the book. the slides r also from the book!
very nice teacher....but just not made to teach ...should look for another job heheehorrrible horrrible final.
you will never meet a prof who recycles material more than this guy.. learning is unnecessary in this class, you can just memorize and you will do great. he's a nice man but cannot teach.. or really speak for that matter. plus his choice of TA was awful... beware: you're not going to like this class
Very nice guy! Doesn't know how to speak or teach for that matter. The classes are very BORING!!!!! Better off reading the book and doing the excercises. His teaching isn't intersting, just reading off the slides (which are avaliable on webct). Funny accent: "vebct.. vebvork.." LOL!
He is a very nice person. His teaching style is not the best, but he does his best. Do go to class, bacause he gives example that are most likelly going to resemble to the exam. Prepare for a HARD final.
The TA was CRAPPP, but the teacher himself was pretty good, he explains much better when you go and see him in person, very very nice guy!!!
he is very kind.i love him
He is a great prof... he is clear and always available in his office. expects you to understand all the material and be able to tie it together during the exam. not to mention that he's a really nice guy...
Amazing teacher! Very clear and interesting. By the end of class you already know the material without having to study too much. Makes great PowerPoint slides. He is also respectful, generous, and interested in his students...I am very impressed.
He makes the material easy to understand, and he is avaible all the time if any one had has a problem. This class is hard during the summer, no pratice for the exams or TA. Your on your own for summer. THe notes are simple to follow and you just have to go over them since he uses the same stuff all the time. The exams are tricky and long.
really nice guy, excellent teacher, he really cares...kinda hard to understand...
Seems like a nice guy but his teaching style and accent drive me to sleep.
Too boring! The man himself is ok but when he teaches I just feel like finishing what he wants to say for him... it's so long! I'm sure he could say everything in 40 minutes instead of 1h20 ... And the mid-terms are not clear!
To find the eslope of the cuve you musta take the devivative of the eckuation for the cuve. Salmasi is very clear, if slightly monotonous and he explains concepts well, but the midterm was too long. 50 multiple choice in 80 min is too much. Overall he likes the students and enjoys teaching (he even makes jokes), but is boring and makes me sleepy.
I like this prof a lot. He has excellent powerpoint notes, and is almost always available for questions. Yes, his voice kinda drones on and on (Bueller...Bueller...) but watch out because every now and then he might...gasp...laugh and make a joke! I find the class to be very challenging; there's a LOT of concepts to learn. He's great though.
****, Rude, Boring, Unclear, Bad x 10000: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR>
I loved him;) He is soo cute...my peers call him Mario:)He knows the material so well, very intelligent! The exams are long, but u must face it...Take him, you won't regret!!!
he knows what he's talking about, but sometimes how he delivers the explanations is hard to understand. materiel is complicated, much concepts and theories. he is not as boring as he seems, he does joke around. he's available for extra help :)
very boring.. unless u love the course its hard not to sleep..
Too tough to follow. Don't take the class...sigh.
I LOVED this teacher. Because of him I am now considering a major in Economics: everything he said made a lot of sense to me; he really allowed me to absorb all the concepts and link them together and therefore-- love managerial economics. Also, you'll pass this course if you simply know that to maximize profit: MR should equal MC!! Love you profes
I've yet to take an economics class that's fun (sorry all econ majors..), but the prof's slides are clear and if you don't understand something talk to him after class where he's very helpful. Just a tip: Be sure to do the readings BEFORE class, and you'll notice that what he talks about makes a lot more sense and thus class is more interesting
He's good...very good
Very good prof. Smart and on top of that a very nice person. He answers every question clearly and thoroughly...
It's like being taught by a llama, you just don't un derstand whats going on............
you will sleep in class. you come out learning 0 from the course. Take him last resort
He is pretty smart, but he can be really annoying sometime... he also has some trouble making himself clear to the dumb students.
ok i am not a fan bout this subject. i took him for managerial econ. and i later found out that there were other teachers that tought this material much better. class is boring everything is straight out from the book... you have to keep up with readings and do all the exercices as possible for the exams... i really disliked this class :(
he is really smart...and i absolutely loved his class!!!SALMASI FOR PREZ!!!
Not a great prof. Speaks VERY SLOWLY and it's hard to pay attention in class. His multiple choice exams are difficult and when you try to ask him questions he gets very flustered and defensiveness. He does help your grades through assignments and presentations. I recommend other profs like Swati Basu.
Rocks
His classes are boring. However, he knows the stuff and are pretty clear with his points. Also, it is easy to get a good grade from his class.
This was such an interesting class... He is an amazing Prof and explains things really well. Class attendance is mandatory however and the book is boring... He is not an easy grader and there is a lot of work during the semester...
best prof ever.. just go to class and it'll be fine
his a nice guy!!!
This is my first semester of university and this prof is really great! Best teacher i've ever had!
Nice guy, helpful and wants his students to succeed. Hard though.
Does not care about his students. Really an awful man
For Managerial Economics, he outlines what you need to know through lecture but does not provide clear explanations to the concepts. He assumes that new concepts are somehow known by students, and as a result, lecture lacks detailed explanations. The grading for the 10 page paper, oral and midterm are fair. Watch out for the final though as it is m
hard class but easy to get a good grade as long as u did the sample final~ some of the concepts are hard to follow but that doesn't necessarily prevent u from getting an A~
Simply the most informative and intelligent prof i have ever had!!! Nothing but love for Salmasi!!
outstanding!! I love prof Salmasi!!!
He is amazing! you dont even have to read the textbook with him, he explains everything so well!
Does not respond to emails, will only talk to you during office hours (if he's there), may not hand back your assignment (mine took a month to get back and I had to ask for it), does not teach any concepts in depth and expects students to already know the concepts. My worst professor yet.
He's a great prof! I don't know why ppl complain about him...I guess it rlly depends on the student! You do need to work in this class, however, marks don't come without lots of practice.
Highly recommended to attend prof. Salmasi's classes, for the reason that he explains the material very thoroughly and comprehensively. The textbook itself is**** (and expensive), another incentive to attend his classes. Exams are challenging; do practice exams and end-of-chapter questions (of book) to maximize chances of a high grade
LOVE SALMASI!!!!!!!!!
He's a great teacher IF you read the slides before going to class. He assumed that you already know the concepts and he's just clarifying them. That's obviously how he should be teaching given its university but to really get a lot out of his class read the slides before going and everything will be wayyyyy clearer
This is a course for which you really need to study hard for, re-read, practice a LOT! I don't know if it was the time of the class, but the classes are boring because he teaches in a monotone voice sometimes. Not a bad teacher, but I can't give him a good grade either...
He's really boring, not gonna lie. His exams this sem were basically all multiple choice. He does give a lot of practice before exams, and I suggest you do them cause in our final, a lot of the practice questions were on the final. If you get him, good luck, ull have to work hard.
Great prof
In order to do well in this course, you must practice a lot. Solve every single questions that are in his slides. Also solve all the exam practice questions that he posts towards the final exam. Then you'll ace the exams. Difficult final exam.
Amazing teacher! Very clear and interesting. By the end of class you already know the material without having to study too much. Makes great PowerPoint slides. He is also respectful, generous, and interested in his students...I am very impressed.
Classes are not very interesting and I found that he doesn't explain things very well. Nonetheless, he is very willing to explain in further detail if you approach him and will kindly take time after his office hours. Success in this course depends heavily on problem solving. Doing the problem pack posted before the final is a must.
He's very smart and know's everything about everything .. Overall very helpful. Salmasi!
once you get pass his accent, and if you are not tired during class, he actually explains very well. he is concise, clear, and gives you hints about exam questions. He is quite sweet and if you go see him he will take his time to make sure you understand. Do the practice exams. ALL OF THEM. they are practically the final exam.
SUPER NICE AND HELPFUL!! LOVE SALMASI
Great professor! Knows the material very well and is able to answer any question that is thrown at him. As mentioned by many, take the time to review HIS exercise packs, as they are extremely similar to the midterm and final exams.
He makes the hard, easy. He teaches well and though he doesn’t seem to care too much about his students, he wants to give everyone the same opportunity to succeed. The material is amazingly easy when Kamal teaches it. Do his review package. Aim for 80%+ on midterm. Our class had 15 As of 60. He’ll bump you up if you’re close. Strong recommendation
Did not like him at all. He was not clear in his explanations and then constantly asked us why we didn't get a topic that was so simple. Would not recommend him as a prof.
very good prof
Salmasi was at most "okay". He is an excellent lecturer but the final was impossible and so was the midterm. Attend class, and work at the topic. Nothing special to say the least.
Bad and boring. He speaks very slowly and makes people sleepy. His expansions are not that helpful. It was so unreasonable that he divided the groups of presentation before the add/drop deadline.
The prof is not clear in his explanations and the slides are confusing about the material!
Salmasi is extremely helpful. He explains the material very thoroughly and comprehensively. He's also very kind, LOVE HIM...
Great teacher! He explains topics very well and brings in a lot of real world examples. he's also very helpful during his office hours. I enjoyed his class very much!
Very helpful, generouse with his time, respectful, kind! Gives Extra material and tutorial for better understanding! Also gives real life examples! He is a great teacher!
Although you can see he try's his best to be clear about the subjects, he isn't. If you ask him any kind of question he will be there for you, always trying to help. DO THE ASSIGNMENTS! the exams are proportional to the class and the book levels, by doing the minimum you can get a B.
Great teacher. He's very passionate about economics and full of knowledge and it shows through his teaching. Also he's adorable!
Easy prof to work with. Lectures may seem unimportant, but are actually very useful to understand the material. The textbook is useless, except for the weekly assignments. Do the weekly assignments, take notes, do the practice pack he posts before exams and it's an easy A if you dont suck at math.
Salmasi is a great professor. Most of McGill econ teachers are awful and although he can be monotone and lectures seem unimportant, PAY ATTENTION. He is giving so much useful information and elaboration. His slides are also golden. Very nice man as well. Hard 830 class but you can definitely succeed if you pay attention and take him.
Some teachers are experts in their fields but horrible in the classroom. Unfortunately this is one of those. It's incredible how he can take such an interesting topic and turn it into a complete bore. He gets frustrated when students don't get him, asking "why do you not understand this?". Uhm... maybe because the explanation was poor...?
One word; AMAZING! Take Prof. Salmasi if you can. His knowledge in the subject is incredible and his slides have everything you need to succeed in this course. Midterm and final are difficult so you'll want to do the practice problems. 8:30 lectures can be rough but he is definitely a prof worth taking!
He switches off room lights on an 830 lecture, and with that slow accent, students just sleep. Almost half stopped attending his class after the first week. Material is easy so can study at home. Exams are tough and really test knowledge to core. Choose group wisely since project marks for 25% grade. Go to his office if you need any help.
Salmasi is a great teacher if you actually want to learn the material in depth. Best teacher in the department for that. However, if you want an A in the class, worst teacher. He gives the least amount of high marks (only 5 kids out of 250 last semester finished with an A). I got an A in every class except his. Would not recommend.
Group projects were horrible. I have to confess I missed most classes from half the semester, but still I think the class would have been hard anyway. The lectures are monotonous. I'd advise you to take another professor. As far as it is possible, don't take that class on your first term at McGill. Work regularly and don't ever get behind.
I rate all mt profs regardless of experience. I loved being in Salmasi's class. He really cares about his students and if you have a question, he will literally stop the class until you understand. His rubrics are basically a set of instructions so its very clear what he expects. Only issue is he can be boring and sometimes he comes off as rude.
Half of the class had to do a presentation for a group project and the other half had to do a 20 page essay. Kinda unfair. Other than that, chill dude, and he curves the grade in your advantage.
Hes generally a good prof and gives good feedbacks.
Hes a great prof, just listen to what he says
Professor Salmasi is one of those Genuinely nice human beings. He actually cares and it shows. He takes time to explain things thoroughly if you go and see him in his office. He definitely has a passion for economics.
Amazing teacher taking his time to explain if you have any question. Sure the class is hard to follow sometimes and you need to be there for explanations, but once understood the class becomes easier and a pleasure to learn. Highly advanced stuff compared to other basics of economics but highly advised with this brilliant teacher.
Professor Salmasi was very caring, funny and genuine. He always took time to answer the questions, make sure the material is clear and help his students. The midterm and final were a bit hard, but he ends up curving the grades in your favor.
He's very interesting and you can tell that he enjoys Economics. However, his exams are a mess. On both the midterm and the final, there was content that we hadn't studied. Also, he doesn't help us with the assignments, whereas the other professors give their students the answers.
Prof. Salmasi is a prime example of scholars who clearly understand their specialized topic but cannot teach it whatsoever. He mostly reads his slides during class, meaning you can skip without having any problems. However, the exams are a mess, with many concepts never covered in the lectures. You end up having to learn by yourself.
I think Prof Salmasi is super knowledgeable and cares about his students and content; the game theory lectures are super engaging and fun. Alas, the exams are brutal and don't reflect the practice tests, you're graded on few things, and getting a good grade is a challenge. Lectures are usually boring, and his class is tougher than the other profs'
Prof Salmasi is a nice prof. Very knowledgeable in his course subject and willing to discuss a bit with students when we don't understand the concept. However, all the exams are brutal. I think it's more the course than him personally but there were a bunch of questions that we didn't study in class and the exams don't reflect the practice tests.
