totally useless, not helpful at all. She's never willing to help anyone, and if you ask for help, her answer will be "apply yourself, I cant do anything for you." Has bad attitude, and I would never ever again take her for a class, nor would I reccommend her to anyone!
Her tests are never about what she taught in the class. She'll teach something, and test you about something else. She'll tell you in the beginning of the semester that the hw is always a 5/5 or 10/10 or 15/15, because it doesnt matter if you got something wrong, she just wants you to try. BUT as weeks go by, she'll end up actually grading the hw =
The class is a total and complete waste of time, effort, and money. DONT TAKE HER! She'll yell at you for getting something wrong on the hw, or test. What kind of teacher does that? Doesnt want to help anyone, has attitude, dont let her looks fool you, she looks sweet, but shes not what she seems! Thought she'd be cool, but turned our to be lame!!
chem is eassssy for me but she write the worst quizes and her lectures are usless, you dont understand a thing
I feel the people who have wrote negative comments about her are the ones who dont listen in her class and want to get scores just simply without learning..for me I give her A+ ..if you are really interested in studying chemistry she is the ONE .else go take some ARTS course not in chemistry hope to take her next semester also
Makes chemistry fun..with lots of real world examples ..yipee im able to understand chemistry and relate it to my daily life..kudos to Dr.K..
shut up y'all..me not from her class..but she is always there in her visiting hours to help me ..wish I'd taken her classes..Thanks Professor
She wants everyone to spend more time on her lectures..I dont blame her..she wants everyone to get A !! thats why hell lots of Q's and test's ..it hurts to study a lot..but my grades are xcellent...u Rock professor..i will recommend her if you want to finally understand something..very helpful..but want you to understand all the concepts. she rocks
She is only hard if one does not read the book and does talk during her class. One could possibly get a B just by attending her classes . If one wants an A, one needs to read the book and not criticize the teacher. I liked her. She can be stern, but she knows her stuff cold and is willing to help. I think she is great! might be little too strict ;)
I had to repeat the chem100 again this time took Dr.kmatchi , she was too strict with test and homework . I think I submitted every class work, exam was not easy but finally I passed..moving to 101 . Thanks to her . =she is strict about classwork finally it does pay off . Im taking her in 101 .
Finally I dare to check my results today and to my releif I had passed..expected B but still got B- , okay for me given the complication of the test . Thanks professor ..see you in 101 .
chemistry not my major ..but still had to take this subject.she made it easy for us ..i cannot believe I finally passed with a B, such a relief.Do the classwork and he her quiz , you will breeze with nice grades. ..ofhhh i dont have to learn chemistry again..yipeee !!
IF YOU DON'T LIKE CHEMISTRY IS COOL I HAD TO TAKE THIS CLASS AND I AM TAKING 101 LATER, SHE MAKES SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE SUBJECT AND SHE'S VERY HELPFUL HONESTLY TAKE HER YOU WILL DO FINE THAT'S WHAT SHE ALWAYS TOLD ME, VERY FAIR AND HELPFUL I WOULD DEFINETELY TAKE HER AGAIN AND AGAIN BUT CHEMISTRY IS NOT MY MAJOR THOUGH I NEED SOME CLASSES,CSUN
Great instructor. She was extremely helpful in all aspects of the class. She taught well, the exams were more than fair, and the material was presented excellently. Highly recommended.
Uh oh...sounds like those with negative comments are those who didn't pass. Try doing your HOMEWORK in the book, online and coming to all of the classes! It really helps to have an interest in Chemistry. I guarantee that all of the questions on the test are similar or even the same as in the book or online. Trust me it will get you an "A".
She's a great professor & clear on everything. U can understand what she says. There's online work but, she cuts it down. Follow the book, u'll get an A on that part. If u have ?'s, ASK! She is helpful! U have 3-4 exams & a final & few quizzes that she lets u know what it's going to be on. I learned a lot & got an A. Just do the work & try.
She knows chemistry and is very nice, but I had a really hard time keeping up with her. She is extremely fast and the only time she slowed down is when she was being evaluated by doctor miller. Her test are multiple choice but if you show your work she will give you partial credit. I dont recommend her unless you can keep up with a fast pace prof.
Its a hard class, but she's very good at explaining. She tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. homework is due online. As long as you take good notes, and attend class it should't be as hard. you earn what you deserve. I think she's pretty generous in grading.
I really liked this professor. She really wants you to understand the material and does a good job of explaining it to you. Her quizzes and tests are more than fair and she tells you what you need to know. It's a tough class, but if you attend the lectures and actually try to understand, you're guaranteed to pass.
She's very helpful in everything. If you're too shy in class she has office hours in which she will kindly respond to any question you have. She also prepares her students well for upcoming quizzs and test. Her notes and lecture are excellent. Read the book, take good notes and don't be absent.
Great professor. Clear lectures, easy to understand. Hard class, obviously, cuz it's chemistry. Her tests are challenging, but definitely fair. I would recommend her. I'm taking her again for 102.
EXTREMELY good teacher. very nice, explains everything slowly and clearly. i hate chemistry but she made it easy. 3 tests plus final. online homework. i didnt even need the book. i would recommend her to everyone.
Amazing professor! I thought chem would be a class from hell.. But she made it very easy. Her notes are extremely clear. She doesn't try to confuse or use tricky questions on the tests. Very straight forward. I started Chem not knowing anything but know I know chem 100 like the back of my hand. Make sure you study the notes well. Study doing the problems over and over the test are very similar but different numbers. One of the best teacher at Csun. Chem is not worth taking unless it's with her.
Took summer 2010. She's a really good teacher once you can get past her accent. quizzes on every chapter which is actually really helpful because u know exactly the types of questions that will be on the test. in summer, we didnt have a final just another regular test :)
Chemistry is a hard subject, but Dr. Kamatchi made it easy to understand. I would recommend to all. It is not an easy class, but if you work hard and practice you will get an A!
I have taken her for 101 and 102 and she is great! Lectures are based on the book, very organized and clear on what she expects you to know. Chem is just a difficult subject that requires practice to master her tests are reasonable and she grades fairly. Curves at the end of semester, extra cred for random attendance. take her! but go to class!
Dr Kamatchi is an excellent prof, she's very clear on her lectures and makes the exams based on lectures and assignments so to avoid off-point or confusion, and she cares about her students too. if you show your efforts, she will work with you. attendance is not mandatory but necessary to pass this class. I am hoping to have her for 101 and 102 :D
Very kind and clear. If you are struggling in her class she will work with you and help you. Grades are curved. Highly recommended!
The sweetest teacher ever!!! Very helpful, and her tests are very easy, just study her notes, and do the homework. Great teacher. :)
Dr Kamatchi is AWESOME. She is the expert in chemistry. I don't recall any time not understanding at all. Her lectures help into making excellent notes. Online homeworks with unlimited time until due dates; quizzes & 3 exams on material she already lectured. She never expect stuff that she didn't teach yet. RECOMMEND!! A+
Very nice & understanding professor. The course isn't too hard but requires studying. Her grading scale helps--an A cutoff is 82%. 40% is passing. She does have an accent, but it's not so bad that you can't understand her. Exams consist of matching, filling in blank, short answer, & solving equations. Offers study guides & worksheets. Good teacher!
Her exams are ridiculous. Each exam is worth 100 pts: 20 questions total = 15 multiple choice and 5 detailed work (math problems). The multiple choice is worth about 60% yet in class all we do are math problems. And the math problems on the exam aren't like the mastering chemistry homework she assigns either.
Super sweet professor! She gives amazing lectures! They are very clear and she breaks everything down for you. Go to the lectures!! Take her!!
Nice lady, but not helpful as a professor. Kicks students out of her office hours, and doesn't curve exams when there's a 55% average because "we should know it, it's not that hard." Expect to get a tutor and put many, many hours into this course.
I thought I was going to do really well in this class because I understood the information but I guess not. She's good at teaching but she makes the exams a lot harder than what they need to be. Thankfully she curves all the grades. I received a C in the class.
Overall great CHEM professor and easy passing grade. I would not say it is an easy A, because there are too many factors. If you miss one assignment you will not receive an A. That is how important each assignment is. Also, Final and Midterm is long/hard but reasonable. There are no surprises on tests, it is all in your notes.
RUUUUUUUNNNN, run AWAY as far from this teacher as possible!!! MORE than half the class failed. I loved chemistry up until i took this class. BELIEVE ME i STUDIED till my eyes bled! her class is just impossible. TOOO HARD!
Absolutely horrible! Will not help you when lectures are unclear! Asked a question in class; told me to ask in discussion. Asked in discussion; told me to ask in office hours. Went to her office and told me, "If you don't know the whole concept, I can't help you. You need to go home and read the book again." I'm a 3.9 GPA Bio Senior. AVOID HER!
horrible
She showed completely different problems then from what she would put on the test. The homework that she uses is completely useless, and is timed. I had an awful time in her class.
It is the same of my high school martial the only different is she makes this harder to understand she gives pop quizs but most students get F or D, if you are taking this class make sure to check your grades on moodle and make sure with her. the notes you get may help you a lot
Taking this course for the first time, exams are challenging. But if you keep studying throughout the semester, one can pass. Whoever is complaining, didn't do their work just wants to pass on the blame.
She is a really great professor because she actually cares that her students do well. the exam material can be very challenging so put in the time & effort. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should really go because her lectures can help a lot.
She is a very good professor, Very clear! the quizzes are a bit challenging so study for them! This is chem so you do have to put in hours outside of class, but other than that she is very nice.
This professor is very difficult but so is any chem class. IF you put in the work you will definitely succeed. Her lectures are extremely clear and she does her best to make everything as clear for the students. Would definitely take her again.
Just like any other chemistry class you shouldn't skip lecture. Her lectures are amazing because she makes it so that everyone understands. I regret not taking her for chem 101. The exams and quizzes she gives are fair since she prepares you well for them. I would definitely take her again for upper division chemistry courses.
Definitely on my "never take again" list. She has an accent so sometimes it's difficult to understand what she's saying. Her lectures are organized but they are dumbed way down and do not prepare you for the exams. You're basically on your own. If you do end up with her focus on the homework, sometimes exam questions are similar. Overall, avoid.
Wow, don't do it. Pretty much cant understand her accent, she lecture super fast, her online resources are useless because it does not reflect whats on the test all. I read everything & did all the online assignments backwards and forwards and still had trouble on tests. Unless this is the only class you are taking this semester, look for another.
Absolute worse professor at csun. Her tests are impossible to finish because she only gives you an hour. Totally absurd because we have an hour and 15 minute class. On top of that nothing she teaches is actually on the exam, and when you approach her she tells you to get online worksheets to practice. Do not take her!

This class is a GPA dropper. Too much material covered every week. If you have other options I would recommend exploring them for the sake of your GPA. The dept in general needs to get it together, their grading is black and white. Dont get me started on the lab criteria. I would pay to see the dept chair attempt the calorimetry lab successfully
Do not take chem 102 with this professor. She is extremely unfair with her exams; they are VERY long and you are not given enough time to give yourself a chance to do well on them. 30 questions in 1 hour. Average exam grade is just shy of 55%.Will definitely NOT take her again. She is awful - worst professor I have ever taken in my academic career.
Do not take any class with this intructor, even if it means staying and extra semester. Class material is basically irrelevant for the test and she does nothing to help students who beg her to give them direction or any advice. The most you will get from her is a passive aggressive attitude and denial and unwillingness to help. DO NOT TAKE.
Took her for Chem 102, clear lectures, did homework online and practice problems from chapter end. Though her exams are long, She does give partial credit for work shown. Getting a B in the class, would definitely recommend her
She OVER simplifies the concepts in class and gives you the easiest examples and practice problem, then puts the hardest questions you can possibly imagine on exams/quizzes. Overall, her exams are unrelated to what you learn in class.
worst. ever.
She truly is the worst professor I have ever experienced. DO NOT TAKE!
I truly believe she wants most of her students to fail. She makes the tests difficult to finish. Most of the tests are theory that she does not teach. Terrible teacher. Save yourself and DO NOT take her. God knows how much I studied for this class and still couldn't pass.
she is terrible. save you gpa and take someone else
If you don't plan on reviewing outside of class 2-3 times a week for at least an hour, don't take her. She's a good professor who knows her stuff it's just that students want to get it right away but that's not how Chem works. If you get her, review the notes, review the lecture slides on moodle and review the homework.
She is the worst professor I have ever taken in my entire life. I knew the material well but her exams are impossible to finish. 30 questions for only an hour is impossible. The highest grade for the entire class at the end of the semester was a 70% I studied very very hard for her class. Got A's in all my classes but hers. I do NOT recommend her.
I could only write a little so I'll make it count. To get an A, you have to do every single practice problem in the book. The material she teaches is much easier than what's on the test. I bombed the first test, and after doing every problem in the book, set the curve for the second one. Wouldn't take again as she barely gives any time for tests
worst professor i have ever taken with. she makes the lecture very easy but when it comes to the exams there very difficult. DO NOT TAKE WITH HER
The final is about 50% of your grade, exams are 40% and quizzes/hw is 10% and she will NOT give you enough time to finish her exams. Her multiple choice is worth 70% of your exam score so if you get 3-5 wrong, good luck even passing, I had the same grade with and without the curve, it really doesn't help. Please don't ruin your GPA taking her.
It's a chemistry class, it's fascinating to me that people think it'll be easy. Of course its going to be tough. The people complaining below are the ones who didn't put in effort outside of class. Chemistry is like math, you need to practice and practice until you get it. This professor is very Clear cut and good at explaining. Highly recommend.
The only grades that really matter are the 2 exams (38% of grade) and final (48% of grade). The class average on the second exam was 58% and only slightly higher on the first. So even with the curve bringing a C- down to 62%, much of the class will fail & she thinks it's all on us. Said she won't lower the curve any more than by a couple percent.
This class has been an absolute nightmare this semester. Funny enough the only class I really studied hard for was this one ,and I ended up not getting the grades I wanted. The second exams class average was 58%. The professor could care less about how many students she fails ,and seems to take pride in giving extremely hard exams. DO NOT TAKE!!
I have never studied for a class as much as I studied for her class, yet I did poorly on the tests. Her tests did not reflect the material she taught us during lecture, or the practice problems she told us to do in the book. She is completely unfair and I would not recommend her to anyone. Don't take her. Trust me, you will regret it.
Shes amazing Iv taken chem 101 before and was miserable the criteria is hard its chemistry its not a walk in the park but she makes it as easy as possible. Not tricky! Love her! Best chem professor Iv had and Im no genius!
Taking her is setting yourself up to fail and wasting your time on Friday and Saturday mornings. If CSUN had an award for worst professors, she'd take first place. Her lectures aren't that bad, but her exams are the epitome of hell on earth. I whole heartedly URGE you (from fellow peer to peer), crash another section. DO NOT TAKE HER.
First off, I would study for her quizzes and midterms and I ended up FAILING THEM ALL. At one point I just got so mad I decided to GIVE UP. Also, she can't reply to emails at all, I don't even know why... PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER. I think she WANTS people to fail, maybe she thinks people will think she's a good professor or something... lol
She was my professor a few semesters ago for CHEM 101 and it was awful. Her lectures arent too bad, but her exams are something else. Exams are twice as hard as the hw and whatever she goes over in the lecture, which made the class frustrating. Class average hovered around the 50s or 60s. I urge you all if you can, TAKE SOMEBODY ELSE.
Her lectures are fine, but kinda dry. Tests can be a bit difficult and she doesn't give you all that much time for them. Overall, she's not a bad professor, but not great either.
She is very kind and the way she explains the material in class makes you feel like you're understanding it but sadly her exams do not reflect what she teaches in class and her practice exams and quizzes don't either so you're pretty much on your own if you take her.
Do not taker her, I rather not take chemistry for a whole semester than taking her. She CAN'T teach. If youre naturally good at chemistry you can do well, but if chemistry isn't your thing, take someone else. She won't help you. I struggled so much in this class, I thought about switching major. I didn't have an issue for 101 nor o chem.
Good professor but pulls her tests out of the black hole because the questions on it are not even close to the stuff in her lectures. Dont even think about taking her, her failing rate is 60% its a huge risk.
All of her lectures are done on the white board (no powerpoints). She usually writes the entire problem and its solution on the board without saying a word and then goes back to explain it real fast before moving on to her next point. Quizzes are done and graded in front of you during the discussion; don't miss them.
GREAT PROFESSOR
Lecture attendance, not mandatory, but ALL work is ONLY on whiteboard, so it's not good to miss. Gets upset when no one participates. Gives confusing answers on occasion. Tests can be both easy and very difficult. She never specifies what material will be tested on most. But she does care about your grade but won't give out EC. Study A LOT.
Yes it is true, 60% fail rate. Her personality is as sweet as a peach but the teaching is just horrible. She goes by fast, and writes everywhere on the board which leads to major confusion. Make sure you're a fast writer, it gets erased after being put up for 5-7 mins. Homework and the book does help. Come 15 mins early if you want a good seat.
She is the type to give you a bunch of notes and expects you to have it all memorized by the next lecture because she is straight up not a good professor. writes fast. talks fast. erases board fast.
All the work I put in to understand the class was reading the book for hours&doing hw. Tough class, unreasonably long exams, but semi-easy quizzes and hw. The avg raw scores for our exams ranged from 40-50% so study the text a lot, ask questions, come to class prepared. Shes very helpful in office hours! Dont expect to get it solely from lecture.
she writes extremely FAST on the board so be ready to write just as fast or take some pics! also, her exams are completely different from anything else that you do in lecture, or read in the book, or the problems on the hw so you need to practice EVERY SINGLE DAY. i had to spend hours reading the book and doing any kind of problem that we learned.
In person she was okay, she told us when exams and quizzes were. She gives partial credit on exams if you sort of know what you're doing. But it was IMPOSSIBLE to finish exams in her time frame, there were so many questions! Once we switched to online it got even worse and her lectures were no longer helpful, she just read off the slides.
She is very good at going back on problems if someone was stuck or confused on a topic. During COVID-19, exams were straight forward so study from her lectures and do practice problems. The labs online were very easy, and she gave easy worksheets. However, she didn't respond much if you emailed her and it took awhile for her to put in the grades.
Had her during COVID -19. Her personality is really nice and warm. There are 5 pop quizzes at random times. Make sure you are paying attention on zoom she will ask you to write your name for participation points or answer poll questions. There are 2 midterms and 1 final exam. The questions come from the homework, lecture slides, and textbook.
Very easy class! Just show up to class and do the homework. It does not get much easier than that. The exams are also really easy as long as you understand the topics being taught.
she is a very nice professor how wants everyone to do well but her teaching is not the best. her tests are very difficult and she gives a lot of problems for little time. it is possible to finish. you can ask anyone a question during or after the class. and I think she is considered one of the better professors in the chem department. 3 test
She's a fairly good professor. She makes you do a lot of practice, but practice makes perfect. Her tests are fairly easily but it might be hard to finish them on time. Nonetheless, she teaches fairly well and answers questions in a welcoming manner.
She's nice and caring but doesn't teach the subject well. Lectures are really fast and boring. A lot of homework that is hard and does not relate to most of the topics in the lecture. The only way to pass is if you have a good chem background.
Very rude and angry all the time. Pre labs quizzes were not even on the prelab sometimes.
Professor L definitely knows how to teach the class and was a satisfactory professor. However I feel as though she is a little strict with how she grades reports, docking points for the smallest things. I also wish that whenever we had an unknown based lab she would tell us how close we got to the actual value instead of a just a score on canvas.
She taught the lab for CHEM 101 and overall, it wasn't too bad. She could be a little rude sometimes but most of the time she was pretty nice and helpful. Tough grader.
there are weekly quizzes and lab reports due but she grades fairly and is easily accessible outside of the classroom! She explained the topics well and helped me understand the lab reports more. highly recommend taking her class!
She was a pretty good lab instructor. She would pretty much hold your hand through the lab. She could be a little sassy at times, but overall she was pretty nice. She graded the quizzes fairly. Word of advice: have your notebooks ready before class as it is part of the pre-lab quiz & watch the videos of the experiments that she uploads (they help).
Very sweet professor that takes time to do explanations on the tasks for each week of lab. Has a clear criterion on what she wants for lab notebooks (no lab notebook checks, just lots of uploads). Easy to ask for help and ask questions during lab, which I greatly appreciate because some lab professors can be standoff-ish when you ask for help.
very tough course, she announced quizzes but she's a tough grader. her tests are so much harder than what she actually teaches in lecture. she's vey nice but it kind of seems like she is discrete about what you will be tested over on purpose, she doesn't really set you up for success
Sweet but deceiving, did say this class was hard, but her exams are nothinggg like what she teaches in class. Practice exams and worksheets to help us study better but even those don't help because they are nothing like what is shown on the exam. So be aware and make sure to hit the books extra hard because lecture and discussion won't save you.
She is very caring and helpful! On the notebook checks, make sure to have all the things she wants recorded down for the pre-lab and observations during the experiment to get full credit. On the quizzes, use the protocol and YouTube videos she posts to study. Her canvas is so nicely structured, all you need is there!
This teacher was not very good at explaining concepts during the class. She simply plays videos and when someone asks questions, she would reply "because a scientist said so", or "that is just how it is". I was dumbfounded because her teaching was so atrocious. I would most definitely not recommend her as a teacher. strange odor in her class.
Even a broken compass points somewhere. She arrives unprepared, conflates authority with expertise, and stifles discourse. Directions are ambiguous, assessments inconsistent, and feedback cursory. Her pedagogy is disorganized, punitive, and demotivating, eroding curiosity and measurable learning.
This professor has referred to me as numerous racial remarks/slurs during one on one meetings and has been overall very disrespectful. She also does not teach off of her own knowledge and relies off of videos and/or the textbook for almost the entirety of her teaching. Would not take again.
Terrible teacher, content on tests is not what she teaches in class. Gives unit tests weeks after we finish the unit. I can tell that she understands chem well, however she is horrible at teaching relevant topics and helping you with questions.
To endure her lectures is to suffocate beneath the weight of mediocrity draped in false erudition. Her words meander without purpose, clarity, or conviction. Behind the fragile façade of competence lies only vanity and pretense, turning every lesson into a theatre of tedium and decay.
Each day in this class feels like an academic endurance trial. The lectures lack coherence, depth, and direction, leaving students perpetually confused. What should be a rigorous exploration of chemistry instead becomes a demoralizing routine of frustration and futility.
I would tell her that I don't understand the question but instead of explaining it to me, this dingus, would tell me to read it again
Very nice teacher!
not very nice!
Wow, when you realize that there's been 1 obsessed, bitter student who's been spamming multiple CSUN professors' RMP pages and across multiple colleges in LA and attacking them with personal insults, you realize that Professor Lakshminarayanan cares a lot about her students! Don't fall for this student's tricks!
need i say more.
Dr. K is a strange soul. She has a mix of that hard, great attitude, while also being an inspiration. I genuienly think she can be one of the greats if it isn't for the students bringing her down. This is why I feel like I must give her 5 stars. She genuienly deserves it.
Thingas are horrible anmd they dont let her get the thing where we know how much time we have in the test and she ends it early which isn't nice and it's bad because frrooty tooty mcflooty. She can't keep getting away with this.
Dr. K is so terrible. She makes chemistry feel like hell. This is Henry hudson by the way.
she under us like the denominator she the alternator
She said Jesus Christ would lose a 1v1 to Mughal empire.
This class very confuse. Teacher very fast teaching me don't understand. Nothing makes sense. The class give me very huge stress and I feel ignore because my condition. I hard try but class make me want to unbuckle seatbelt everyday when I driving to school.
